Great teacher, crystal clear; it's never a guessing game with him, you always know where you're at with him. Extremely helpful and understanding but firm. Has a true vocation for teaching, not just there to do a job
The best in the department. Helpful, respectful, knowlegeable, a pleasure to work with. They are lucky to have his at Concordia.
Excellent, overall! I recommend this guy very highly. A sweet man, helpful and knowlegeable.
I am not a THEO student, but I took 2 of his classes because he is overall great. Approachable, student oriented, wants us to succeed, provides fair standards of marking and gives any opportunity to help out with papers, finding sources, discussion. Finds out what's best for the student for studying, due dates. Accessible, and very knowledgable.
Pretty descent class. A lot of reading, but Dr. Turcescu and the TAs are very helpful. The exams are easy, and the subject is interesting.
Course is interesting. He seems extremely knowledgable. TA's are great, very helpful.I am not a THEO student but Id like to take another one of his classes. Alot of material, but it is well organised. Study, and you'll do well on quizes, not sure about final yet.
Real easy online class. 3 quiz online first one was 22 question, 2nd was 29, and third i lost count i was so long. went to the final with 94% average. Never studied or did the reading until the final. it's all about google and Control-F to find what's on a page..average of first two quizzes was 18/22. Final questions are given in advance.
Took the online course. Very easy. One chapter per week and 3 quizzes worth 22% each. Final is 2 questions from 6 that he gives prior to the exam. Read and you'll be fine, nothing too hard, its an intro course. Prof hardly interacts but the TA's were great.
this class is supposed to be an elective & unless you want to work like crazy for NOTHING...then take it.I never post comments on here but for your sake I decided to WARN you guys...DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS.if you have nothing better to do than read the 100000000 assigned reading then go for it but all this class will cause you is A LOT OF STRESS :(
TAKE MY WORD ON THIS...AVOID, AVOID, AVOID...learn from my mistake...DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS...its beyond overhwelming and all the students on the discussion board agree...the final is UNREALISTIC...AVOID, AVOID, AVOID. The prof. is very knowledgeable & TAs are nice and helpful but I still had HORRIBLE experience with this class
I actually had an easy going experience myself! I only looked over the slides & read the chpts on the day of the 3 quizzes. Granted the readings are a little long and at times confusing bt you need only to listen to his voice recordings on the chpt summaries & he clarifies things for you. Not much work was put into getting these 3 crds. Good luck!
This is the best class I've ever taken at Concordia. I learned a lot. The amount of work is adequate, the information clear, the professor and the TAs very helpful. The material covered is extremely interesting, and the prof's videos are a delight. I HIGHLY recommend this class.
Recommend this class to everybody! I learnt a lot - the videos are really helpful and fun to watch.
Great class!
Great professor, great class! I completely agree with the other students.
Ppl who say this class is hard do not belong in univ. 3 ONLINE quizzes: 66% (use ctrl+f). There are a lot of readings, only look at relevant material (dont waste time with stuff that isnt covered). If you play your cards right you should go into the final with a C! Then the final is 2 outta 6 essay q's given in advance. No excuse for getting under A+
Excellent class, recommend it to all those who want to get a fair grade for honest work. Good students should have no problem getting recognized for their work.
This guy is phenomenal! Best prof here.
His class is easy indeed. But his teaching is HORRIBLE. If you're haing problems sleeping, listen to his readings, they're such snoozers. Seriously.
Great class! I've taken 5 online classes so far and this is by far the best one. The slides are great, his lectures are fantastic (he goes over the readings so it makes it easier to understand) and the TA's are so helpful. There's no reason not to do really well in this course! Highly recommended!!!
Prof Turcescu is great, there are a lot of readings but they are interesting and he explains them. His midterm is 1 essay question but he gives you 5 questions in advance and picks one same as the final and there is 1 paper. TA was awesome
Great Prof, lot to read but its interesting and he explains it well. The TA was great and helpful. The midterm and final are 1 essay question and he gives you 5 in advance to study and he picks 1, there is also a paper on your choice of topic. Highly recommended
this was an easy and interesting class. TA are really really nice. I have taken this couse in Fall 09 and it is one of the best courses you can take online. Although I'm not Christian, the Prof. makes us think on how Christianity came about, etc. He knows his stuff. Take it, take it, take it! Final q's were given ahead of time!
The grading scheme changed, so be aware: getting above A- in this course is not that simple anymore. Except that, it's an easy and quite interesting class, a lot of readings but it's feasible... About half of the class got in the Bs.
Beware, they give you the questions in advance for the final, then deduct points because of ''too much memorization''. Avoid this class; I wrote exactly what was asked for on the exam and ended up with a B, which far below average for me.
STAY AWAY, took it cause it was supposed to be an easy and fair class but it's not the case at all, final exam is killer: i agree with the 2 previous comments. Stay away if you're an A student...
Worst online course. TAs are dense and unhelpful. Quizes have unclear questions. If you have any prior knowledge you will be confused. I am an A student but struggling to figure out what the goals of each lesson are. Boring public speaker. Bad text book. Unorganised thoughts. STAY AWAY!
Do not take this course. Stay away. Too much reading and material in too little time. Final exam prep a killer even though they give you the topics. Too much to learn in too little time.
This class was a lot of work but it was definitely not bad as the others said. It was really interesting, the TAs give a lot of help (email, discussion board), the quizzes were fairly easy and you end up learning many new things about Christianity. The teacher is quite easy to follow through his videos and mp3s. It was totally worth it.
This was a really great and easy online class. I don't know why people are complaining. The grades were 7=A+,34=A,32=A-,19=B+,20=B,7=B-,5=C+,7=C,4=C-,0=D+,3=D,2=D-,6=F. Most are high A's or B's. Very good class just know to use Ctrl+F during the quizzes on your notes and the online book. 40 mins to answer 25 questions is pretty easy.
TAKE this class! great online class to take if you want an easy A. All notes are accurate, quizzes are easy and final exam questions are given to you!
Easy/Boring online class. The material seems to teach historical and doctrinal interpretations which are not mainstream, and which are very debatable, as if they were concrete facts. Still, stick to the provided materials and its an easy A.
This class is really easy. NO need for slides or books. Just look at the videos and you are set. 3 quizzes for 51% and final worth 49%. I put 0 effort i it and got an A+.
Avoid this course!!!! The content has changed.. This is an intro 200 course and the final exam is 2 questions of which you must write 3 pages single-spaced for each. Also, 3 quizzes during the course which you basically have to know and memorize everything. Hard course, avoid if you want to keep your grades high..
If you're looking for an easy elective than AVOID this course...3 hard quizzes and now we don't even know what to expect for the final...
Hard quizzes? I'm sorry, but those quizzes were unbelievably easy. Yeah, the final for the format changed, but Lucian has recently posted guidelines for the essay questions on the discussion board. Students like the two below this rating are classic examples of people who want things handed to them without having to work at all. Lazy bums.
This class has completely changed from others semesters!!! Their is 3 quizzes which are extremly hard even with an open book! He requires so mucvh detail for a beginner level course! He talks and most of the time doesnt make sense! And for the final good luck basically you have to memerorize all the notes and videos as any 2 questions can be asked!
a great proffessor, and an easy class, but still you have to work abit for it if not then its ur problem that u r lazy or whatever, i had an A+ and i studied a bit for the exam, besides the teacher and the TA were really helpfullll. take it it can suprise u how interesting it can be
got an A+ for this class, an easy class if you actually study for it but if you want an easy A without making your brain work abit, then your place is not at university. i worked moderatly on this class and the TAs are very helpfull, so take this class if you want to be fascinated by early christianity
Okay, so to make this clear for eveyrone wanting to take this class: stear CLEAR! We were told (by word of mouth from fellow classmates in pervious years) the exam questions would be given to us prior to the exam and this was NOT the case. I can swear I have never studied this much for an exam in my life. Horrible
This is one of the best courses offered at Concordia. The material is interesting and well presented, and the course challenges you. The exams were fair, and the TAs helpful.
Good elective course but the teacher isn't that great... most of his audio recordings on the online course were of bad quality (it was very hard for me to understand what was said). Teacher can also be exceptionally boring at times. Learned more from the textbook and the lecture notes than from his video-audio lectures.
I was shocked at how much of a NICE person this teacher is. He was so considerate he gave us the final exam questions in advance due to student strike. He helped out in forums to even figure out how to formulate essay answer topics. His videos are excellent at resuming what must be learned versus boring dry book. His tests were fair,He's Excellent
I have taken Dr. Turcescu 2 times now and he never he is a great prof. Altough his presentations are boring at times, he is very caring and wants all his students to get the best possible mark. His mid-term and final questions were given in advance. If you do the readings and know the most important ideas you will do very well. Wonderful man!
The class is easy if you actually do the readings. He gives midterm and final questions. TA Robert rocks! Gives good grades.
What a nice man! He is so caring toward his students. This is my second class with him and I hope I get the chance to take another one. Such a nice prof!
Very nice teacher but if you have trouble sleeping, I recommend you take his class. His voice is a remedy against insomnia. Also, if you take the online class, don't even bother listening to the video or audios...you're only going to waste time..just listen to the ones where he interviews other teachers...less painful.l
BORING BUT GREAT TEACHER
Great teacher, fantastic ta's , very interesting course, so glad i took this course. As long as you listen to the audio watch the videos and read the material this is an easy course and you get to learn something for a change about religion.
This is an A + class. Just do your readings 3-4 days before the quizz and prepare the final questions. Listen to his Videos and Audio recordings, they are very clear and helpful for understanding the material. You have 3 quizzes online, and 1 final exam which is essay writing, altough, you have the questions before hand so you can prepare them.
a very dry class. it says in the description that no prior knowledge of religion is expected, however i found this VERY untrue. if you already know a lot about christianity (and even judaism), then you'll probably do a lot better - but even to understand readings early on i had to do A LOT of extra work - way too much for a 200 level class.
very easy elective course, very lenient grading on final exam. watch the videos, and an A is very attainable.
Great online class. While the final exam requires a lot of preparation the quizzes are all quite easy. The professor and his TAs are EXTREMELY helpful and are always available to answer questions and help students prepare for the final. I have zero interest in religion but nonetheless found the material quite interesting and got an A+.
He was not helpful and was quite rude. The class was very difficult, there were a lot of readings and more work than I expected. The quizzes and the final exam are very detailed oriented. If religion is your niche, then sign up for this class, but if you're taking this class because you need to fill your schedule, I would advise you to reconsider.
Not the most interesting of classes, but it really wasn't that difficult. There's a lot of readings to do, but if you keep up with them getting a B or higher is easy. Quizzes were very easy and the final was in essay format where the questions were given ahead of time. If you're looking for a free elective, take it! Just DO THE LESSONS!
Horrible teacher and class. All depends what TA corrects your final because the TA's do NOT correct the same way. Worst online class I've taken in 3 years at Concordia.
I thought this would be an easy and interesting elective to take, unfortunately that wasn't the case for me. I enjoy religion but this material was extremely dry and I had a hard time understanding. Be prepared to learn lots of concepts, this is not a class you can get away with doing zero work in anymore, maybe it's changed but Im glad its over.
I was expectin an easy class as 51% is allocated to 3online tests which r open book. But that didn't matter because alot of the answers to questions could not be easily found, so u had 2 study in advance. I got 45.7/51 for the tests, still w8ing for final exam grade. Teacher/TA will answer questions regardin final, but will b vague in their answers
For an elective this has been one of the worst classes i have ever taken ! My TA was helpful but the over all class was horrible ! Was so overloaded with other classes , this class was just a big inconvenience and added extra work load and stress , Although i passed i defiantly would not recommend it .
Amazing teacher, so understanding and passionate. Course is divided into 3 online quizzes and a take home final, the online quizzes are horribly easy as you can use googlebook and he is VERY fair on the final paper, also you get 10% just for showing up. Great guy, make an effort and you can easily get an A or A+.
The audio recordings from the teacher were very helpful. The best art of this course was the fact that the readings and videos were always available to see and download if possible. The teacher's video were clear and helpful and easy to follow. Since it was online, I was free to do the required work on my own time. The study notes very helpful.
I thought the class was great. A few days before each quiz (there are 3 MC quizzes) read through and listen to all the material; copy relevant written material into a word document and type up some of the audio. Read the summaries you make over again. For the final he gives essay questions, just prepare and memorize. A+ is very doable. Interesting.
A great professor. Do not take his class as elective. Only students with a basic knowledge of theologypolitical science should take his classes. Challenging, smart, caring and intellignet, professor Turcescu is perhaps my all-time favourite.
don't get me wrong,if your looking for a an easy filler class for your schedule then this might be for you ,but if you actually plan on following along then go elsewhere. did better on quizzes and final when i just turned my brain off and searched through practice exams and wikipedia .lessons are pretty much useless for everything except the final
THEO 206 isn't that hard as long as you apply yourself. If you have difficulty with the material, go see the professor or email him, he is helpful. A few trick questions on the quiz but rest of them were not impossible. Exam questions given in advance with plenty of time to prepare.
an easy A+
Prof is great. Passionate about material. Class is too long. There are 5 assignments along the semester. 5 Readings Summary. Readings are usually 30 pages long. 1 Book review 1 Paper outline and a Final project. No exams. You'll have almost two weeks to complete each assignment if you keep up with the material; It's not that difficult.
This class is pretty easy as long as you dedicate some time to it. However, you need to study beforehand for the quizzes. Don't expect to find the answers by CTRL+F on the study slides. What's great is he gives the final exam questions in advance! Also, if you don't understand the readings, don't panic. He explains the important parts in his audios
Awesome teacher who really cares about his students' success. The class is not a joke as some make it out to be as you actually have to read and be organized to a certain extent. He also gives really good feedback. WATCH HIS VIDEOS when studying for the final.
This is an easy intro course, but you have to study. Some students who take their answers from cheating websites end up with a bad grade. The prof warned us not to do that, since those answers are wrong or incomplete.
Who ever thinks that this is the easiest class to get A+ is wrong and not aware of how it will bring your GPA down. Unless you are highly interested in studying religion, do not take that class as an elective. Quizzes are extremely harsh. You basically have to memorize the readings in order to do well. I would not recommend this class.
This was a hard elective but give the teacher was giving the final questions to prep for it was a doable hard earned mun A-. As of this summer 2016 he has decided no longer to give the final exam questions,Avoid at all costs, take any other elective besides this final exam is two questions 3 pages long each single spaced essays!
Avoid him . His english accent is horrible makes you hate the class . very hard and boring . Super not practical and i had to force my self to read material which is confusing and not practical . But it was to late to drop the class so yeah got stuck with it :( If you need an elective AVOID AVOID . did i tell you to avoid?
Some of the material in the online course text book was hard to understand because it is more philosophical than anything else. The history of Christianity is quite fascinating but there's just too much reading. I had to spend at least four hours for every lesson just to understand the different concepts being presented. Not worth it.
This class is one of the most interesting courses I have ever taken. The readings need to be done to succeed. The professor is extremely helpful and clear in his lectures. The quizzes require detailed notes from the readings and as for the final, he practically tells u the questions with a detailed study guide of lessons and topics to focus on.
I worried this class will bring my GPA down so dropped it. The class average was really low and since he stopped giving final exam questions in advance I decided to drop it.
This course will bring down your GPA. The readings are incomprehensible for someone with no background knowledge in this subject. Way too difficult for a level 200 course. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this class.
So, this really has nothing to do with the professor. I'm talking about the course itself. There are a lot of readings in this course, it is not as 'easy" as people say it is and now, he no longer posts final exam questions to prepare in advance. Only take this course if you are REALLY interested in the subject. If not, forget about it.
Not too sure why people are complaining, THEO 206 with LUCIAN was a blast! His lectures were very informational and entertaining and it was a very easy class. 20 minutes of work per week and you can lock in an A.
Lucian the Lion is the boy. What an inspirational class, wow. Incredible! If you cannot secure at least an A+ in this class, you should really rethink your life purpose. Final exam was super easy, would take again. EASY ELECTIVE!
He is great. Very approachable and cares about his students.
I took this class because I heard that the class was easy. Unfortunately, this course is so heavily focused on the readings that it misses the big picture of theology. Professor only cares about minimal details about certain theologians / historians of the time that the quizzes are nearly impossible to study for. No clear instructions for final.
This class was, unfortunately, more of a challenge than I had anticipated. The final exam essay questions are no longer given ahead of time, and we are instead provided with a brief study guide. It's possible to do well in this class, but it requires a substantial amount of preparation ahead of time. The text readings are KEY.
This is not what it used to be ! Have to work to get a good grade, reading the texts (which is long) is essential. Was able to end up with an A+ but it was the course I worked that hardest for during exam period. A lot of writing on the final, ended up writing 14 pages (you have to write at least 10). CHEM 208 way better choice for a GPA boost
One of the most unprofessional teachers I've ever contacted. Shows absolutely no respect in their response and acts like a 7 year old in a playground. Don't take their boring class and have to sit through listening to his boring lectures. NOT AN EASY ELECTIVE.
AWFUL class. Probably the hardest, most disorganized, mind-numbingly boring elective I have ever taken. The quizzes are so specific, that it's as if he wants you to memorize each sentence from the 3+ chapters of reading. The final consists of two 3 page essay questions (single spaced) and you dont even get the questions before. stay away!!!!!
This is not an easy elective and should not even be considered a 200 level class. The quizzes focus on details in the readings and do not cover the important topics discussed in the chapters. The final exam consists of 2 questions (answers are 3 pages long) and the study guide is NOT useful at all. AVOID THIS CLASS. Not what it used to be
The quizzes are ultra hard, though online. I loved this class, low workload and learned a lot. I loved that there was a take home final especially. Lucian is highly respected (check Wikipedia) and an awesome guy. He lets you debate for an hour of the class. One of the reasons I decided to do a Theology minor to complement Political Science.
I took this class on recommendation of a friend for an easy A which wasn't the case. Perhaps easier in other semesters I took this in the summer as an online course. First course taken in years and it was tough. I ended up passing with a C. Tests are open book. Final is 2 essay questions. I enjoyed the course but don't listen to what others say ;)
The course is not necessarily hard: there's a bunch of readings to do, quizzes that are open book, and a final exam where they provide you beforehand a study guide that tells you exactly what to study. The problem is that it's definitely a time consuming course. Avoid taking this as an "easy A" elective, especially if you have other hard courses.
Take him in class not online. He is really interesting and engaging in person.
If you have a backround in theology, you should be fine. As someone who did not know anything about theology and wanted to give it a try, my reponse is DONT DO IT. The readings are difficult to understand and his videos are so monotone that it makes me want to drink till I pass out. The midterms are multiple choice, but the final is an essay.
First of all, I thought this was supposed to be an easy elective. Sick joke. The texts do not make sense. I don't know why the author chose to use the most complicated form of English known to man. Each lesson has a reading of 30+ pages. The questions on the quizzes are so specific and you're not given enough time to do them. Don't take it. Brutal
NOT an easy A. Each reading for each lesson is around 25 pages, which aren't straight forward and difficult to understand. The quizzes are multiple choice but detailed, so you might run out of time. 2 questions for the final and expected to write an essay about 3 pages each. If you have theological background, go for it!
He is really a nice professor. Not a tough grader. Just recommend a bit reading for this course.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS !!!! This is definitely not an easy elective, especially because it is online. If you are taking this class as an elective trust me do not take this class. The quizzes are really really hard, but the final exam wasnt to bad since I studied really hard for it.
You can get A in Theo 206 but you need to study. Lucian answered my emails but other than that, I studied on my own - it is online. Make sure to be ready for the quizzes because it counts for a lot. For the final, he usually tells you 3 chapters to focus on which is great. If you read those chapters and learn it like a story - you should get an A.
He's kind, caring & not a hard grader. The quizzes are not tough if you do the readings. The workload is virtually nothing. Final is take home, so thats great. The topics in religious pluralism & secular culture were so fascinating. 2nd class I've taken with him & great. The ppl complaining about 206 were expecting a joke, you're in uni grow up.
I had him for the THEO 206 online class. Overall, he was a good teacher, his lectures and study notes were clear. The multiple choice quizzes were hard, mostly based on minimal details from the textbook, so if you want to pass, make sure to do all the readings required. Final exam consisted of two essays which were fairly easy.
I actually love this prof which is rare for me! He's very nice! Attendance is mandatory for participation marks though but as long as you do the readings your fine you don't really need to pay attention during the lectures! Only thing is i find him to be a really good lecturer so I was genuinely interested! Definitely taking him again!
Very meh. Online course 3 midterms and a 50% final. My final became take home bc covid19, so not too bad. But overall the textbook ir written in the most bland way, not easy unless you grew up in a religious household and you have a background on the content, I had no background and this absolutely is way harder than anticipated, wouldn't recommend
By far one of the easiest courses I took at Concordia! 3 online exams (open book) and one final take home exam. He gives points for attendance which is honestly the only reason must people show up to class. Not that it is boring, but the material is always posted online. If you know how to search for answers during the exam, no need to even study.
After the first quiz, I thought I was going to fail the class, but once you know what the Prof is looking for, you'll get the hang of things. His lectures are long and can be boring, but they are full of important info that will be on the quizzes. Pay attention to the slides and lectures, they're more important than the textbook in my opinion.
Difficult for university starters. Lots of reading and video watching. Need good work ethic Positives: Provides study guides (keyterms), clearly defines what he wants, opened book evals, and answers questions within reasonable time. Negatives: short time limit for quizzes. Don't be last minute or unprepared. Some material can be dry.
Tests are based off the textbook and are multiple choice, so they are quite easy. The grading criteria for the take-home exam is very clear. As a professor, Dr. Turcescu is very nice. He provides an open dialogue to discuss the course material, and is very knowledgeable of the subject he teaches.
Theo bumped up the grades, so an 86% is an A-, rather than 80%. The class was interesting, but the final was graded harshly, there was 0 flexibility to help students (either grade boost/reducing the final weight). So not the most compassionate/flexible prof. We were expecting this and students got nothing/felt cheated, typical for Theo classes.
Took this class during the pandemic. Classes were both interesting and boring, guess it's because classes were long and he speaks slow. He knows that so attendance is mandatory. I thought I'd get an A because quizzes were easy, but he surprisingly graded harshly on the final. Take this class if you want a good grade easily. Average professor.
He is a nice person and a good teacher. The class is interesting, we studied secularism in different countries and cultures in each chapter which felt like traveling in a way. Live classes were open to debate, quizzes were really easy but the final is way harder. The only thing is he does not always answer emails which can be problematic.
The class was extremely interesting! Lucian cares a lot about his students and he is a good teacher! Easy A, 3 quizzes and an essay all based on the textbook.
The easy/interesting ratio of this course is rare at concordia. You can easily get an A without doing much but still learn some stuff. The prof cares and if you participate during the discussions it makes classes very enjoyable. Even if you don't listening to class debate is interesting. The prof is truly open to any opinion and pov which is nice.
Dr. Turcescu was amazing, almost made me switch my major to theology. He is such a kind and knowledgeable professor, I wish all Concordia teachers were like him. The lectures were super interesting and easy to understand, but the assignments were mostly based on the textbook.
I'm having a good experience with Dr. Tursecu, he is super nice and accessible.
I found the academic theological reading a bit difficult at first, however, in the second half of the semester we used a textbook which was very easy to read! 1x summary assignment, 2x quizzes and a take home essay final. Dr. Turcescu is super knowledgable and is a good lecturer, I appreciated his detailed reading notes in class, would take again!
While his lectures were a little bleh, the material was very easy to understand. Straightforward, simple and the textbook we used was easy to understand as well. We had two open book quizzes that were super easy and the final was a take home essay. Overall, would recommend for an easy A!
THEO 206 was an average class, my only gripe with this teacher is that his "study guides" would be off by 1 lecture so you'd go into the tests missing 5 questions worth of answers. His content is easy to understand and the final was also pretty easy. Given that I spent maybe 1hr per week I got the grade I deserved. I recommend this class.
Very good teacher and interesting class. He really cares about students opinions and is very open to discussion. It is impossible to fail this class, I would recommend it 100% !
Fantastic prof. Dr. Turcescu's lectures on religion & politics addressed everything in a sensitive matter (the genocide in Gaza broke out during this class), and made the learning process a very interesting one. The material is reading heavy, but it was fascinating stuff so I didn't mind. I would definitely take a class he gives again. Great guy.
An all-around fantastic professor. Extremely kind, considerate and funny. Light-hearted yet content-heavy lectures. We had three multiple-choice online quizzes and one online proctored final exam. The quizzes are easy, the final consists of two essays. His TA was also great. I would recommend this prof.
The website for the course is super outdated, it's the same lectures from literally a decade ago. Readings, videos, audio recordings, if you don't go through them, good luck. Thing is, everything on this class is available on studocu, including the answers to the quizzes (yes they're the same questions) and the final exam questions.
There is so much reading per week and expectations to remember minor details. It being open book barely helps. 40 min quizzes are off by 1 lecture. Proctored online final is worth 50% and is 2x800-1000 word responses in 3h to questions which can be found online. At least he'll tell you what lectures to put on your double sided memory aid.
He seems to be genuinely interested in what he teaches, even online, he gives good explanations of how the class works and what his expectations are. You need to do the readings for the quizzes, but if you do them all you will be fine. He also posts very helpful study guides. Super cool prof overall I would recommend taking his class.
Tried to get help outside of class, but he is unavailable. Not the kindest professor and he makes weird comments to students, especially females. The lecture and test are tough, so unless you are passionate about this topic, I would recommend avoiding this class.
It becomes apparent quickly that he is passionate about the subject matter. Very sweet but timid personality. Lots of reading involved through the textbook, which the course is oriented around. Class discussion takes up about one half of classes and lectures the other half. Attendance is worth 10 percent and the Final Exam is worth 50 percent.
Prof Turcescu's class requires commitment, but if you engage with the material, it pays off. The lectures and study guides are key - plus, Unstuck ai can be a helpful supplement. Overall, a challenging yet rewarding course.
Had him for Poli313 and he is a great teacher. He cares about his students and is available after class. I would say there is a lot of readings and a textbook required but it's all available either through Moodle or concordia library. I would definitely take him again
Tried to ask for help, but replies with very unhelpful answers, or hardly answers emails. In the classroom, he sometimes makes weird remarks to his students, kind of like shaming them. If you want to receive a good grade, I would advise against taking any of his classes.
