Dr. Vickers class is very simple, and almost a joke. She has no real grading scale, and will fail you for no reason, especially if you are not like her (ie. feminist, or earth child.) Be prepared to be in class EVERYDAY, or you will be dropped and failed.
I took her American Lit class and I love that class, she's a great teacher and I would recommend her class to anyone!!! She is very intimidating for the first week or two but after that she's awsome. I would take another class with her if I could!!

Dr. Vickers is an awesome teacher. I looked forward to going to her class everyday. She has this way of making you interested in every assignment and making you love to grow as a writer. I highly recommend her. :)
Dr. Vickers was great! Took African American lit and got a B. She makes you want to learn more, she's very enthusiastic about her subject and makes you think outside the box. go to class, read, and do most assignments and you'll pass
She was a great teacher, passionate writer, i wrote a lot in her class which made me a better writer..wouldn't suggest the class unless you enjoy writing about poetry, overall she was a great teacher.
She really cares about the subject. Lots of work but worth it.
Very nice and caring . she knows her stuff. U can tell she enjoys her job and she's interested in the subject.Easy class but hopefully u have spare time because there's alot of reading and writting!
Great teacher! Very nice and helpful! I've gotten all A's on everything we've ever done! Don't take any other english teacher!
very interesting class and lady.you can tell she loves what she does! i liked her and would recommend her to everyone. I got an A and it wasn't hard just do your work and come to class! She's wonderful!
I really enjoyed Dr. Vickers class. She is a wonderful teacher and person. She cares about each and everyone of her students as a person. She made class a lot of fun to where I didn't feel as if I was doing "work" more like having fun and hanging out. Not a lot of HW either :)
this teacher is right up there with meri culp
an ok teacher. not the greatest ever. a little vague on instructions.
great teacher, expects a lot.
She is an amazing teacher. I have read a lot of things she has written and they are all great! Wish i needed to take more classes with her!
She is an easy-going teacher, and stimulates such interest in creative writing. She helps you to think outside the box, and is always willing to help a student. She is funny and an inspiration almost. Her grading and attendance policy rocks!
shes a really easy going teacher, takes a good interest in her students. actually wants you to pass!
great lady! it is a pleasure to take her class. makes writing fun and interesting. I wish she taught more classes that I could take under her. There are no right or wrong answers in english, you can let your imagination run wild on paper. She is an inspiring and involved teacher.
Vickers expects students to perform. To show up, do the work, and do it well. Tough but fair.
She is a great teacher and she gives extra credit. The class is easy and she goes out her way to help everyone in the class. Just do your homework and don't be late to class.
DUDE!! she is the bomb, she is very interesting and has a lot of good story and interesting things to write about. I had her class at 8 in the morining and had fun going to it. She will AW you if you dont come to class. She very easy if you do your papers.
She's a writer. Very helpful. Go to class.
Dr. Vickers is a great teacher. She's tough but she's fair. She tends to keep class interesting and fun. Come to class and do your work and you'll have no problem. Dr. Vickers really values class participation, and you will use your book liberally. All in all she's a fantastic teacher.
expects a lot--class is organized. great teacher.
She is a strict, but fun teacher. I enjoy her class, but showed no mercy when I did not show up with my essay draft. She holds a grudge and incoporates her personal beliefs in her teaching.
Dr. Vickers is strict on attendance and on turning in homework on time. She will withdraw you if you miss.Do not come to class unprepared. If you do the work, and do it well, you should be fine.
Dr. Vickers is a tough teacher, but that doesn't mean she isn't nice. She expects students to act like they are in college---that means not missing class and not showing up unprepared. She will withdraw you if you miss too many classes. Do the work and come to class and you should be fine.
She's very smart and knows what she's doing and talking about when she teaches. She's pretty tough however and some students have complained that she shares her political beliefs way too much, but she is still a good teacher. She also likes to have open discussions about what we read in our text books. She's got a good a good sense of humor too.
Dr. Vickers is a professional writer--she has two books out---so she knows what she's talking about. Don't let her sense of humor fool you. She will fail you if you fail to do the work.
shes crazy but in the best way possible.
a very cool chica. Easy to get along with and a superb teacher. Show up on time, do what shes asks and smile, and you're good.
makes us be there...shes never there tho
Shes a very good teacher, esp if its your first year in college...she makes you feel comfortable. She also doesnt mind lettin ya relax some days :)...very easy to talk to and ask questions. The only thing is you better not miss any days SHE WILL WITHDRAWL YOU!o..and do your homework, you'll be cool :)!
Dr. Vickers is nice, but her personal opinion gets in the way at times. All grades are completely subjective, so if she happens to disagree with you, or if you're not one of her favorites, you won't do well. She places a huge emphasis on class participation, but only if she likes what you have to say. If you BS, you'll be fine.
Funny the previous student should say Dr. Vickers only liked students who had opinions she agreed with. Most of the class didn't read jack so I think she was just delighted when someone showed up prepared. There were a lot of losers in that class.
She was a great teacher; very helpful. She be tough though, so dont mess around.
Attendence is MANDATORY for this class, but she is ALWAYS late, and is so not understanding in anything. She is rather interesting, and I wish she was more understanding with personal issues
yo dawg. prof vickers showed up on time and got down to teaching us how to write creatively. your personal problems are just that: personal. we all have them, but we signed on to come to class.
Dr. Vickers expects her students to show up. The class was fun, in spite of the semi-literates.
Vickers ran the class like a pro---lots of feedback on papers, lots of insight. But you can't miss class...and be on time.
dr. vickers rocks. just don't miss class and come on time and do the work. she expects a lot of her students. unfortunately there are a lot of subliterates at TCC.
She's tuff. Don't miss class and do all the work. She expects you to write well.
do not miss class; do the work (and there's lots of it.)come to class on time.
The hardest thing about the class was that so many of the students were unprepared--it was hard to read their work when we did peer editing. I couldn't believe how many students were unable to write coherently. Be on time- and do the work and you'll be fine.
expects students to be on time and prepared for her class but fails to comply with her own expectations.
The biggest prob with classes at tcc in gen is students like the one below; they expect the teach to get to class early like in kindergarten. get your a-- to class on time like the rest of us do. vickers is always on time, sharp.
teacher was great, but this was the stupidest bunch of students I've ever seen.
Professor Vickers is an interesting & inspiring teacher. She is very imaginative, & will work w/ u no matter what u r writing abt. She is very laid back & will work w/ u, but expects u 2 do the work, which is not hard, or useless, i.e. busy work. She expects good writing & class attendance. The most fun I've had in a writing in a long time.
Id avoid this professor, she was tough on grading and attendance, and difficult to do work for. One of the least pleasant and helpful teachers ive had.
she does grade hard and requires attendance. class got good when the morons dropped out. Why go to college if you don't want to read and write well?
this teacher is a good teacher she expects you to be adult like with everthing attendance and to complete classwork. BUT!!!!!! i wouldn't wish her personality on my worst enemy she is very rude and couldn't care less if you were to pass her class. she has favorites. i hated her class but i did pass with an A. she has to be the worst at TCC
omg, enc 1101 was the worst bunch of students I've ever been in class with. real middle schoolish. i don't know how the teacher could stand it/
Go to class, do the work, and you'll do fine. You might even learn something.
excellent.
lots of reading and writing. go to class and do the work and you'll do fine.
she met with us individually to help with papers--still--you have to go to class and do the work.
she is such a great teacher! she gives a lot of homeworkf but none of it is really hard. you will have to write a couple essay but they arent really hard either. she is really helpful and does her best to make you a better writer. i loved her class!
Great teacher, real chill. You do a lot of reading and writing in this class, but as long as you keep up with the work, you should earn an A. Come to class to avoid missing an important discussion or assignment.
please come to class she is a good teacher but has a i dont give a damn attuide so please do your work and dont get on her bad side
Dr. Vickers is a great teacher. We worked hard on improving our writing. The worst part of the class was being around students who have no idea what college is.
Lots of homework--must come to class, must turn in all assignments, must try hard.Bonuses: she will meet with you individually to help w papers.
By far the greatest professor that I have. Lots of writing, lots of reading, lots of ways to pass this class.come to class, do the homework, partake in discussions, and you'll pass
This lady has her days. She is very rude and couldn't care less if you were to pass her class, she has favorites. Usual be late for class and expects you to be on time. She explains the essay and you've done it, later she tells you your doing it wrong. Seek help in the learning commons.
OMG where do i start, this lady is rude.Expects you to be on time to class, and she usual not on time herself. Her assginments are easy she just grades it hard. She has favorites in the class,so you'll pass.If you can"t write she going 2 tell you to read more or get help from the writing center. She rather be called prof,Dr not Mrs.She will try u.
Fabulous teacher; committed to students--will read drafts, will help you. Teaches like this is a college course which is refreshing at TCC.
Best professor I've ever had. She's dedicated and really cares about her students. Very compassionate and will go out of her way to help you.
Dr. Vickers is a good teacher, and I really liked her. She was very strict about attendance (INCLUDING being on time--she'll lock the door) and completing homework on time, so be prepared to keep up. She was always willing to help those who needed it and were willing to help themselves. Definitely not hard to pass with an A or B you do the work! :)
Still really feel like I should have gotten an A in this class. I got high grades on all of my papers, did the homework, went to class, AND took advantage of the extra credit opportunities but still ended up with a B. I don't really know what happened, thought I did very well but evidently my work wasn't A quality.
Her class isn't so bad. I would be very prepared to to a lot of writing, though.
Dr. Vickers is awesome! She's very helpful and understanding. Buy the book- you'll need it for a few HW assignments. She assigns mostly narrative essays so if you like writing, take her! Also, if you follow her instructions on the essays and meet with her at conferences, you'll get definitely get A's on your papers. :)
Cares for her students, very clear about what she wants. Be on time, try not to miss a class because you might miss important information. You can tell she enjoys writing and being a professor for it. Shell help you in any way she can and is sometimes lenient.
I love Ms. Vickers. She is an awesome Proffesor. She truely loves literature and loves seeing her students succeed. She incorporates group discussions in class. If you truely love writing, want a great, empathetic, open-minded teacher to encourage you, this is your class.
great teacher
I loved her. Discussion based class with a few essays.
seriously the EASIEST class i took all semester. turned in NOTHING! like turned in 3 homework assignments out of the 20 she gave, did the two major papers and the extra credit paper and passed with a B. looked at videos and talked majority of the time in class. loved this class and Prof. Vickers. will take her in the future.
Dr. Vickers is a professor who actually expects her students to show up on time and be prepared. Expect the losers to whine about having to come to class on time as if they forgot they signed up. I liked being expected to excel. Class discussions were great and so was the interview assignment. I read authors I'd never heard of.
omg---like with any class at TCC there are the poeple who think they can just wander in whenever. Thank Goodness Dr. V isn't having it--show up on time, do your work and learn something. put your phone down and pay attention. lots of interesting readings.
Vicker's is friendly, sarcastic and funny. She involves everyone in discussion and encourages creativity. Probably 10 hw assignments, easy summaries of short stories. Overall 4 essays. She's very lenient on how you do your essay. Gives kind feedback & encourages students to submit to Eyrie. ** Dont buy txt book- never touched it **
The class was not what I thought it would be, essays were more personal based. Not really like essays about other literature, more of using other writings as inspiration and basing your paper on them or the style it is. We did a total of three papers, which she graded like it was going to be published. Also did a few homework. Nice lady!
Vickers is a great teacher who expect students to come to class prepared. Great class discussions. learned alot. she even tried to break thru to what i call the tcc slo-mo crowd: the cellphone users and finaid shysters. soemthing for everyone! wake up and learn sumpin!
Dr. V was cool. I loved the class so muchlearned so much about myself and my family. Great class discussions. I just wish those ignant girls had left sooner.
Dr. Vickers is a great teacher. I felt bad that we had some really childish students in the class who would interrupt her to get up and walk out, or who would use their phones in class. She managed to teach around all of those distractions--wish those students had dropped out sooner. We learned a lot and I felt respected for my intelligence.
Took Dr. Vickers for AML 2600--learned a great deal. I liked how she included students in discussions. You had to be prepared--papers were interesting and I loved doing the interview. I kept the book--going to keep reading!
Great teacher in 1101--nice,patient and willing to help. Funny too.
Vickers was a great teacher--inspiring, really. She loves African American lit and the writers and we learned something new every class. We had to do homework and 4 papers--one was a final exam and one was an interview. She met us at the Black Archives at FAMU on a weekend and showed up for student art shows too. Attendance is required--no phones
Dr. Vickers is by far one of the most personal, caring, amazing, and outstanding teachers I've had. I took ENC1141, we had 3 papers and 1 short paper at the end for the Final Exam. She offers conference/office hours (which if you take advantage of) and is very understanding. Shout out to how down-home and Southern she is too!
Lu Vickers is a great teacher. She was there for me when I had some issues and made the class work. Not only that but she was funny.
I don't usually like writing --in fact I failed comp twice before taking vickers. she offered to help me get through and I did and i took her next class and did good in it to.
Had for 1101--great teacher. Funny--I learned a lot too.
This class was very easy, fun, and chill. I wish I could take her again but she wasn't available.
Great overall teacher.
Great Teacher! But don't be late to her class . As long as you're on time and present you should pass with an A or B . Waits last minute to post grades , but she keeps you updated.
Great professor and if you come to class and write the essays she assigns you should pass easily with A or B
She gives you enough time to do assignments and good feed back. Her class was funny and easy. I would take her class again.
Go to class and meet with her about your essays and you will get a A or a B in the class. There for you but prepare for a lot of work.
She's such a fantastic professor and she will talk to you if you need any help. She's strict about phones and attendance. Her class was very easy and fun. The homework assignments and essays were simple. Please turn in your homework on time because she will not accept late work. Try not to miss her class or you'll miss important things.
Excellent teacher who literally went out of her way to help students. We had one on one conferences for papers--go to those--she will help. Attendance is required and you need to be on time for the in class writing.
Be prepared to write many essays, but this class was definitely fun and her feedback is extremely helpful. I would definitely go to her office hours, she loves when people come and visit her.
Dr. Vickers is amazing! If you show up to class and turn and do your work you will get an A. She does hate it when you are late but that really it. She made me enjoy writing and feel like I was good at it. We did write a lot of essays but she made them fun topics, check canvas and see what is due. She has been my favorite Professor so far at TCC.
Dr. Vickers is a great professor. Shes a huge stickler on attendance and electronics. If you're 1 minute late, she'll consider you absent. Almost everyday for class she will give you HW, which are pretty easy to do, just a lot of writing. Four 1000 word essays throughout the class that make up majority of your grade. She is very approachable.
I love this professor. I admire how much she cares about AML. She is an amazing teacher who is so well read and so knowledgeable about the material. She did her best to make it all interesting.
She makes class fun, and gives great feedback on essays! Overall good teacher would take her class again.
I loved her. She is a really good professor and really makes class interesting. DO NOT BE LATE TO HER CLASS
Professor Vickers is great. She always gave me great feedback on my essays. She gives a lot of homework assignments but they aren't hard and actually are relevant to the essays you write, so they end up being helpful. She's funny and sweet. If you come to class and pay attention to her directions you'll get an A easily.
She's a nice professor, but she is strict on cell phones and attendance. The homework were responses from passages offline and from the book. She'll send reminders to keep the class updated. There was 1 midterm paper and a final, but they were easy. Overall, I enjoyed her class and learned so many things.
She is a caring person and she loves what she does. Participating helps your class be more fonded of. She is a tough grader and I had homework almost twice (papers) every week. She makes you work for your grade !
I took the express class, it was a lot of work with little time but it was SO worth it. I kept an A all semester. If you go to her office hours or ask for help during/after class she will help you and tell you exactly what to write on your paper to get a better grade. If you dont do well, its because youre not putting in the effort. TAKE THE CLASS
I LOVE THIS PROFESSOR!!!! I took it as an express class so the work was always due back to back but they were super easy. She was such a help, always there - if you go to her office hours you will be okay. Gives great feedback, motivates you, and keeps it real. NO PHONES and ATTENDANCE IS REQUIRED!
Professor Vickers was the best teacher, It takes a while to warm up to her personality but when you do youll absolutely love her! Her essays are easy and shes very personable wish I could take her again
Dr. Vickers is an okay professor, in every class you watch around 2-3 useless youtube videos that do not mean anything toward the topic. You have to write essays and responses every other day and she basically doesn't tell you what you did wrong on your writing, she critizes you and expects you to write a nobel peace prize award writing.
Dr. Vickers always gave feedback on drafts of essays. The homework and in class vid clips- like the 5 min short on objects from the Bosnian genocide were geared toward upcoming papers. I was shocked at the poor quality of other students writing--TCC faculty have their work cut out for them. She helped me on every single paper.
All assignments are full on writing assignments and essays. She gives good feedback on all of your pieces so you know what youre doing right and wrong, along with getting you the help you need so you can succeed as a writer.
An awesome professor! She helps with papers and gives lots of time for them! She comes over scary at first but is soooo funny and really cares about all her students! LOVE HER!
Professor Vickers is wonderful. She cares about each student's writing and wants you to be successful in life. She can become sidetracked, but it's part of her character. There are a LOT of writing assignments but they're all easy. The final for our class was to edit previous work and make a portfolio. Super easy.
Although attendance isn't mandatory, she every now and then takes attendance and gives points. Out of the whole semester, she only did this 3 times. This is a really easy class; you will have to write a lot though.
Her class wasn't awful it just felt like a waste of time. Most of our actual work was homework and then unnecessary lectures. She is very strict about attendance and also phones. I liked her at 1st but when I missed several days of class due to personal reasons and I emailed her about it and had a Dr. note, she didn't care and dropped me out.
Beware of this professor lol. Shes funny and goofy and she cares a lot about social justice & such. But she is the worst at grading assignments. Like it will take her more than a week. She also doesnt respond to emails which really sucks during a pandemic. And she assigns homework 2 days before its due.
She cares about her students and helps them. Attendance taken every once in a while for extra points. Lots of essays and homework but as long as you don't get lazy its easy to pass/ an easy A.
I really loved learning about African American lit, just wish my classmates did too. The teacher brought in so many facets of literature and art that connect to our lives today. Was disheartened to see how bad some of the students were--just really self defeating behavior I didn't expect in college. Teach tried to help them--resistance was real.
Overall good teacher. VERY opinionated. Seemed like a lot of class time was wasted watching things that didn't really relate to what was being assigned for homework.
Lu Vickers is overall is an ok professor however she tends to get sidetracked during lectures and goes on tangents either telling stories about something unrelated or complaining about students on phones. She's very strict on attendance and punctuation if your even 3 minutes late she'll count you tardy. if you are a verbal learner swap professors.
I loved Professor Vickers! She comes off as tough but has a soft spot for her students. She just wants to help you pass the class. If you joke around a dont take her seriously you will have a hard time in the class. She is so funny and a great teacher. She is a tough grader but her feedback truly helped me become a better writer!
She is one of my favorite professors I've had during my time here at TCC. I love writing so this class was a no brainer for me when signing up for classes. I don't feel that we actually wrote like too many papers I feel like it goes without saying in creative writing we are going to write a couple things.
I took this class online. The teacher organized the course into weekly modules (faculty aren't allowed to open them all at once.) The assignments were easy to follow--just read the directions. The essays were assigned in increments and she gave feedback on each step. Extended deadlines occasionally--was willing to work with me when I got behind.
Dr. Lu is an exceptional professor. I took her ENC1101 class first year, and she genuinely helped me become a better writer. One thing I will say is that she is devoted to helping the students who ACTIVELY try to better themselves. If you are taking this class and plan on not coming half the time and putting in the work to succeed, you will fail.
I feel like if you like writing, you won't have an issue with this class. I took this class as a junior in highschool and she was always very understanding+ accomodating. I feel like this class was very beneficial to me also. Final paper was short and sweet, and I recieved a 100%. Know the basics before taking this class and you'll be good as ever!
I was homeschooled so was in for a shock.I don't know how teachers are able to put up with obnoxious students, but this teacher stayed calm all the time. I appreciate the leeway we had in choosing topics and also how she did the assignments in increments and gave feedback on each step. It's hard to fail this class unless you just don't do anything.
funny teacher--hard core about writing but you get to pick your own topics. Always available to help too.
Easy class to pass--just read, do the work and learn how be a better writer. Conference days--and cookies on some days.
Professor Vickers runs a tight ship, but rewards engaged students. The assignments are structured to provide helpful feedback. unstuck ai was great for preparing essays.
She is an amazing professor that gave really engaging writing prompts and she provided solid help when it was needed
This professor gives genuine feedback to everyone and if you're willing to go to her office hours for help you will never fail this class. She is excited about literature and teaching, and doesn't overburden students with work. She actually walks you through the writing process
Assignment directions are unclear and she is a very hard grader, expecting freshman to be much further along in their writing skills than they should. I found this teacher's comminication style very difficult. This was one of the most unpleasant experiences I've had with a teacher and I have ALWAYS excelled in English with A's.
Prof gave lots of interesting assignments--be prepared to get creative. Attendance is important bc we did most work in class--not a lot of homework. Has a sense of humor but also expects you to actually write. Always available for conferences.
The assignments were easy--you just have to follow directions which are easy because we did most of them in class and she was clear. Not a lot of homework==yeah, you can't use chapgpt or gammmarly and that actually made me a better writer. If you need help she is there.
What surprised me most about this class, having been homeschooled, was the poor writing skills of my class mates. Atrocious!! The teacher tried to make work accessible, while still challenging those of us who can actually write. Always available outside of class to help.
Attendance is mandatory since we did a lot of in class wriitng. interesting assignments--not boring--just go to class and reach out if you need help. Very willing to work with you.
