He is the best prof ever! He is so funny!! "Don't be a hero, use a calculator". hehe.. His exams are really fair and he tells you exactly what is on them. He also recycles old exams so if you know someone who's had him before, get their exams!
He is the best Chemistry teacher i have ever had. He has exceptional knowledge of the course material and his exams are fair. Make sure you do the questions out of the book.
Boring, but maybe its just the topics...he's okay
HE's a great guy and prof, he definitely knows his stuff but then I guess thats why he's chairman.
His set of notes are really terrible, they seem to be just random thoughts. But his tests are OK. and if you study with the text enough you should do ok.
who put him down as hot? haha. excellent teacher! his notes are clear, he knows what he's talking about, and writes tests based on what he's taught you in class - the text book is only needed to help review things that are already learned. plus, he likes to make funny chemisty analogies!
great analogies, best chem teacher i've ever had, i guess that's why he's in charge
he was great! tests were tough but fair. hes a pretty funny guy.
Very smart, but he sometimes put me to sleep.
Lucio is a cool teacher,he's very smart when it comes to chem. But the topics we learn about are really boring (Equlibrium). The only thing I think he should work on is his notes. They are really disorganized, he makes the notes up as the class progresses. Everything seems to be a mess cause he keeps moving back and forth from one area to another.
Best chem prof you will ever get! Keeps you interested throughout the lectures. Always has great analogies! Very helpful outside of class. Took him for 101 and 102. Highly recommend!!
Very knowledgable. Provides great verbal explanations. However, his notes are not great and is not great for visual learners. All he does is examples and just explains what he is doing out loud. Would reccomment writing down what he is saying to understand HOW to solve problems.
Very helpful demos
good prof. practice midterms are very similar to real midterms. notes are really random all over the board just try to listen to more what he is saying.
This is a class i had extreme difficulty with due to the prof not giving notes at all and even with paying attention in class the scribbling all over the board cannot help.
I think he's a good prof...I'd know better if I actually went to class lol.
o come ooon! this guy is awesome.. here's a recipe to get the best out of his class, write down the lecture problems, do them along with the book problems and sample exams. His notes are a little hard to follow sometimes, better than many others though. easily approached, responds to emails quickly. last class's demo was awesome. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
The cutest prof ever! He makes chem so much fun and is always willing to help explain concepts! He is the man for chem! Take him for Chem 101 and 102 if you can!
Talks too fast. Boring. Almost impossible to take notes in his class because he doesn't leave the slide up long enough. If you get him, RUN!
Recomended
Recomended class. Great prof
The man is hilarious. Has a talent for making boring things funny and interesting. I'd take him again if I had the chance. Notes are scattered and hard to follow. Do the questions recommended in his syllabus and you'll do fine. Extremely approachable, knowledgable. Sometimes will explain in too much detail and then tell you to forget about it.
Gelmini is amazing and funny! At first I was a little confused because he notes are all over the place and he sometimes loses track of what he's talking about, but follow the syllabus, and do all the online practice exams. The midterms are exactly like his online questions. It's almost impossible not to fail his class if you pay attention.
Great prof. A little scattered and hard to keep up with at times but really cares how students do and will try his best to clarify things.
He is a good professor, very helpful outside class. He explains the material extremely well but when it comes to midterms, his midterm questions do not really reflect the level of difficulty he does in class. His midterms are hard
all talk and random stories. find someone who teaches
I had Gelmini for Chem101&102 and I am glad that I had as a professor. Although he tends to write all over the place, he explains concepts well and his exams were fair (almost the same as his practice exams). This prof is very helpful, always give extra marks when necessary and his notes are sufficient. I loved his little experiments in class.
He is a good teacher as he knows his stuff; however goes too much in to concepts that you don't need to know and it gets confusing. If you are a students who learns well on your own good teacher for that. He is available a lot for help which was nice. Bad for final review, only teacher who didn't give practice exams
He is a great teacher in my opinion..and very funny..He is fair..and DOES NOT go ovr things you dont need to know..he tells you whats important and whats not..Hes hreat I hope I get him for chem 102 ..
He's so confusing, and always has the wrong answers to his examples used in class. THE worst prof i've ever had in university thus far. HORRIBLE.
I have never done so badly in chemistry in my life (partially my fault). He is unclear, unfocused, and does not know how to teach a concept well. You learn by watching YouTube vids after class, not by paying attention in his lectures. However, he had brilliant jokes and sometimes does great experiments!
Quite possibly the worst chemistry prof anyone could get. He gets confused, his in class notes are always disorganized and he didn't include answers to examples in the powerpoints. I wouldn't recommend him. Google taught me more than he did.
Gelmini is the best! he is so smart. always helps when you need it. Tests are very fair. Plus he does experiments during class to keep you interested!!! His notes are a little messy but its gotten better since last term. Did i mention he is the greatest teacher ever?!?!
He is a good prof. but his notes are not good. His writing is all-over the place and the questions he does in class are much simple then the questions on assignments/exams. I passed the class thanks to youtube. I do not plan on taking another class taught by him.
Didn't enjoy this class at all. Found it impossible to pay attention to his lectures and the tests were difficult
I recommend Gelmini. very helpful tutorials and updates everyone regularly through e-mail. assignments are online
Kind of funny and very helpful. Only have to study the first two midterms for the final exam. Regularly extends deadlines and cuts homework assignments down. Notes on the board can be unclear but if you ask for clarification on anything with him in a one on one he's very clear. Tests were fair and marked generously and included many bonus marks.
Dr. G! Awesome guy, fair, funny, and does in-class experiments. a little disorganized, but overall definitely a good professor... IF YOU PAY ATTENTION AND ASK QUESTIONS. Participate in class, communicate with him if you need extra help (he is always readily available), and do your homework!
Great prof. Fair exams and easy marker. If you do all the practice problems that he does in class, you should have no problem at all in midterms or final exam. Really helpful and loves to help students.
Great prof. Very helpful and an easy marker. He does a lot of practice problems in class and if you practice all the question that he does in class, you should do great in midterms and final exam. Recommend him
Great Prof!!! Very knowledgable and a great teacher! Exam's are not overly complicated, and if you do the mastering chemistry and participate in class, it is very easy to do well.
Lucio Supremio is probably one of the greatest men in the universe and you would be wise to seek out the smartest man in the cosmos to be your chem prof. He's gr8 m8. I rate 8/8
Do not have him for lecture, he misleads you on what will be on exams and tests your math skills instead of chem knowledge. He is funny and entertaining and would be great for lab but I went to every lecture and cried through the final exam because nothing he said would be on there was.
I don't think he's a bad person but I could not adapt to his teaching style... all he did was solve equations on the board and WRITES TOO SMALL. It's the reason why I struggled understanding any Chemistry.
Lucio was a pretty good prof. He goes through a lot of examples in class which didn't really help me because his writing was so fricken SMALL that i never looked back at those notes. However, his sample midtermsfinals are so identical to the real ones that its almost impossible for someone to fail if they do them.....
Lucio was fun, but that was about it. If you do take his class, sit in the front if you want to see what he is writing. He is very minimal on the actual lecturing, and chose to stick mostly to examples, a style which I found a little hard to follow. The sample term exams ARE IDENTICAL to the midterm and final. Really made me lose interest in chem.
This class itself was pretty bad, and combine with a bad prof is not good. Is enthusiastic, but thats not what matters. Questions from class, and those on exams have little to almost no relation. Exams are going to kill, and his teaching style, not helpful. The questions done in class, are solved as if the students are at the at the same level.
Great prof. 100% willing to help if you ever need it. Hard to understand sometimes, but the textbooks that he assigns are helpful. Exams were fairly straight forward, so do the practice questions!
Great guy! He's always there to help and is extremely kind.
Hand writting is small but overall great prof!
Poor at explaining concepts and ideas. Examples are confusing and the explanations make no sense. A great guy, but I do not like his teaching style.
Teaches by using more examples than actual notes which can be really helpful in preparing for his exams. Very easy to ask questions in class and he gives in depth responses. His exams are fair, you don't get blind-sided which is a bonus. Definitely would take a class with him again.
Moderately difficult course, Lucio helps students prepare for exams pretty good by using lots of examples in class. His lectures are pretty boring, so it's pretty hard to pay attention for long times. Powerpoints are posted online but barely scratch the surface of the topics, his examples help a lot so persistent attendance is suggested.
Definitely tough exams. Examples done in class are sometimes hard to understand and his super small writing does not help. So make sure to sit near the front of the class. One thing I did enjoy was the practice exams and the fact that Lucio was willing to help you out if you asked.
Lucio mediocore at most. In lecture he does provide lots of examples which will be on exams. Make sure you attend lectures as he adds more to the slides. He can be unclear at times, but I guess that is why you have a textbook. He went over the last three units gases, thermo, and reactions in about 2 lectures... That was horrid.
Lucio is a great prof. His lectures are clear and if you don't understand anything he is always willing to help you out. His practice tests are the best thing of life. Some comments saying they are the same thing are "kinda" true. If you 100% understand the practice exams then you will rock the midterms and final. Great guy!
Lucio is a great prof, really nice guy as well. Answers any questions you have very thoroughly and does lots of examples during class. Didn't give us any practice midterms, however questions suggested in textbook and masteringchem were quite similar. Even used one of our lecture class as a review for the lab final.
Had Lucio for chem 102 & 232. He is the type of prof who goes through endless amounts of practice questions which are extremely helpful. His practice tests are very similar to the actual ones, so do them! There's a group presentation for 232 that was a grade booster. Assignments were fairly easy if you go to class, take notes & read the textbook.
Lucio was a great prof, showed lots of examples and answered any questions students had. On the midterms he gave bonus marks and the questions on the midterms were practically the same as the ones we went through in class or the questions he assigned from the textbook. If you do all the questions from textbook you will do excellent.
Gelmini was an excellent professor, overall. He gave examples of the kinds of questions you could see on the exam and even explicitly states that. Then he assigns textbook questions that are very similar to exam questions. If you show up, take notes, and do the questions, you will pass easy. Also gave many bonus points to boost the class average.
Awesome guy.
Honestly, one of the best profs I've ever had! He is a super genuine guy and always willing to help students understand the material. Lectures are sometimes dry but he does the occasional experiments in class which are pretty cool! All around great guy, would recommend!!
Worst chem prof I've had in a while. Gives no examples in class and when asked to explain concepts he makes it more confusing. He also doesn't respond to emails, if he does it'll be a one worded response. I'm a decent chem student, but he's made me hate Chem with a passion.
love that guy
He is a good prof, who has good comprehensive notes and cares enough to give you extra marks if you work hard and argue the marks. Never miss a lecture, even though the slides are online, his class examples and explanations are crucial.
I would 10/10 take another chem class with Lucio! He is very personable and knows his stuff. His midterms are very similar to the practice tests and he provides review after normal hours at the end of the semester for review. He truly cares but do not skip lectures. Chem is heavy and missing one class makes it easy to get lost.
He is one of my favourite profs as he has good lecture notes and he really cares about his students. The best thing was that the mastering chem assignments were due at the end of term.
Best prof I've had. Clearly explains every concept and loves his job. He's not just one of those profs that are here to do their job and leave, he goes the extra mile for any student. Easy to understand and overall great prof.
Class can be dry at times, but he keeps it interesting by doing some experiments. Great guy never the less. Tests are easy if you do the practice questions.
Dr. Gelmini posts his powerpoints and the example problems he does in class each day on blackboard, however, if you don't go to class you probably won't understand what he's doing in the problems he posts. His tests are based on the those problems and can be difficult if you don't know what you're doing, do the practice exams and you should be fine
Not the best prof in my opinion. He does examples in class however it is really easy to get lost in them since he uses the camera to showcase them and forgets to move the paper so we can see it. If you were to choose him I recommend you to sit in front so you can see his handwriting on the board and be somewhat interested in the dry lecture.
I absolutely love Lucio. Awesome guy. Will answer your questions no matter how dumb they are. Hes also really nice and understanding. Midterms are fair. Chem 102 is a tough course so you have to put the work in and study! Lucio makes it somewhat bearable.
Lucio is an awesome prof!! I took him for 101 & 102! STUDY THE PRACTICE EXAMS!!!! They are very, very similar to the real exams! 102 was difficult but doable! Highly recommend Lucio!
Lucio is the best general chemistry prof at macewan. He is very nice and helpful. He genuinely wants his students to succeed and is always available after class or in his office. Chem 102 was tough but Lucio made it easier. He does not make you feel dumb for asking questions. Show up to class, listen and write down his examples. Tests were easy!
His practice midterms and exams are almost identical to the actual thing, so practice those to succeed. His examples in class can sometimes get confusing, as he might change what method he is using or go into answering a student's question in the middle and change things. Other than that, good prof.
Lucio is a wonderful chem prof, he provides sample midterms and questions that always show up on his exams. You NEED to show up for class he explain his questions step by step and theory on the board. Memorize those sample midterms and go to office hours, he gives lots of hints and help in regards to his test. Final isn't hard look at the samples.
gelmini is an awesome prof. his sample exams are very similar to his midterms/final. go to class; he goes through the steps of each concept and he does a super good job explaining the content and is always willing to go over questions a second time. he isnt a condescending guy which is pretty rare in profs in my opinion. 10/10 would take again.
Very funny prof and clear on exam material and explanations. You will do well in his class if you pay attention in lecture and do the sample exams posted. Very reasonable if you argue for marks on exams and often just counts the difficult exam questions as bonus.
Does lot's of examples and explains everything really great.
He's a great teacher that explains everything if you need help. He has sample midterms that are very similar to the final. No need for a textbook but take notes. He's very chill which makes it more laid back for sure. You might want to buy mastering chem, even though its quite a lot of work, it is definitely worth the extra easy grades.
He's one out of the like 3 good chemistry prof's at MacEwan. Notes are not the best, had to read textbook to actually understand some things. His marking is kinda whack (would always change what things were out of, ambiguous on what was actually being marked, etc.). Practice exams are pretty similar to actual exams. Always willing to help.
Lectures are slow but useful. Attendance is mandatory. His two midterms are about 90% the same as the practice midterms. The final was EXACTLY the same as the practice final just different compounds and numbers, but same steps. So if you can do the practice final, the actual final should be a walk in the park. Best general chem prof at macewan
His lectures are very boring hard to stay awake
Lucio is amazing!! best prof i have ever had for chem. in his lectures he goes overs the powerpoints and he does examples over the camera doc which he then posts on blackboard. Midterms and finals are identical to this samples with maybe 1 or two different q's. Mastering chemistry is part of the mark but a great resource to have extra practice.
He was a fun guy and was very laid back and he was always more than willing to help with homework or even lab questions. However, sometimes he explained concepts too fast or he is slightly condescending when people do not understand "simple" things. Overall pretty good and I would take his class again without any fuss.
Lucio isn't completely terrible. The one thing I disliked about his class was, it seemed as if he were teaching himself. He taught super fast paced & didn't think if any of us understood the concepts. He will help if needed. His sample exams are basically the same as the midterms and finals. Overall he's an okay prof.
Hated going to his classes because they were boring and too lecture heavy. His exams are almost based on the practice he posts but he adds in too much fill in the blanks which leave me confused half of the time. I think I would've done better if he explained the material better. He chews a lot of gum too
Very good prof Exams close to practice would take again
Lucio is a mediocre professor, he speaks very monotone and he goes through easy content too slow and hard content too fast. I had to teach myself most of the topics, his gradings on his tests give you no insight on what you did wrong. Overall I wouldn't take his class again.
His tests are very straight forward: similar to practice questions and practice exams. Willing to boost midterm grades if you do better on the final. Very clear in lecture and is very easy to get along with.
great guy BUT never prepared for class or and sometimes made errors (many) on the exams or in his lectures. He always made it seem like he was teaching his self. His exams are close to the practice exams he provides which was a hugehelp... but do not expect much from his lectures.
Goes over questions for the first time in class. Results in a lot of errors. Pretty good teacher the mistakes make him go from a 4 to a 3. Midterm 1 had about 5+ errors. The most stressful thing. How to do well? Go to class he tells you questions that will be on exams, ask him questions during the break, do practice exams. Content based on chem 30
Lucio is a good teacher, he goes over powerpoints in class that cover examples that will be on future exams. The chem course itself is hard and riddled with errors. Both midterms and final had errors in them. Mastering chemistry doesn't help, it just contains extra questions that aren't easily applied to what you're learning. Good teacher, bad clas
Lucio moves pretty quickly through his powerpoint slides. Best strategy would be to read through the slides before class (they're posted on Blackboard). Attending lectures is important because he walks through exam style questions. Textbook Q's and Mastering Chem are great practice. Also, his practice exams are gold!
It is important to do the mastering chemistry assignments if you are in his class because those are easy marks, before his exams make sure you review his practice exams because questions are often similar to the real exam questions. Although his class might be a little dry at times, it is worthwhile to show up to class.
Overall a nice man but i asked him multiple times for information regarding exams and assignments with no clear response. Once i asked for the mock exam location and was told the real exam was up and i could no longer do the mock exam, so I did not know where to find the real exam. Good with homework and assignments, I just suck at chemistry.
Attendance was not mandatory, so I didn't go, but I did read over lecture notes. Doing mastering chemistry and practice questions in the textbook really help for exams. We had 3 exams in total with additional assignments in mastering chemistry that were worth marks. Overall, Dr. Lucio is a good professor and provides lots of examples to explain.
Based on his rating, I expected him to be better than I found him. His classes were honestly boring and there was usually a problem with his device. He was also quite obsessed with class averages being on the lower side; on a term exam, he removed questions he thought were "too easy". For all the course exams, mastering chem was really helpful.
He was a great prof and was willing to help and funny. His lectures are kinda dry but you dont need to attend them since he has prerecorded lectures already. His class didnt involve a lot of work but I found the exams really hard and not like the mastering chem assignments he gave us.
Lucio is a great prof. If you complete the assigned work, you'll get the mark you deserve. Lucio is always available to help and it is evident he cares about his students.
Ready & willing to help. Has all his material prerecorded for those who wanna go ahead (videos/mp3/slides). Will try to come up with analogies to understand things better. Actually teaches the topics we need, doesn't just skip "things we don't need" that end up on exams. Great teacher, can be hard to listen to for a long period - monotone.
Lectures are very dry but they are in-depth and helpful. Chem is not my favourite, but somehow he made it bearable. Make sure you pay attention to the mastering chemistry deadlines and do them on time, also go to class when you can as he may bump your grade up if you put in the work. Overall a solid choice for a chem prof.
Ah, Lucio. He had given us a good start of the semester with his exams and then randomly decided he would add much less time for his final midterm because we "were getting too high of a grade". He has this weird obsession with the class being on a lower side (60s), and get mad if they were higher. Avoid.
I was really excited for this course but was disappointed to find that Lucio's exams were way harder than any practice. He got so upset our class had a high average that he cut down the amount of time for the next exam which ended up being a total disaster. Would avoid for online learning!
Good prof just not for me
Nice guy, however, the exam was way harder than the practice questions. I studied questions from the textbook and questions provided and was still shocked at the questions given on the exam. His exams are very hard.
You can tell that he likes teaching and is overall a good person. Lucio's ability to explain concepts are very in depth but lacks the necessary clarity needed for students to understand.
I don't know about the negative reviews here, but Dr Gelmini is a very good teacher. Yes, he speaks monotone, but he explains things greatly and he responds quickly to emails. He is very nice, and you can see that he's passionate about teaching chem and making sure the students learn everything.
As someone who struggles in chemistry, I actually did pretty well. He is VERY accessible outside of class, will reply to your email within minutes... even at 12am. He is very caring and explains concepts well. He wants everyone to do well, just make sure to do practice questions. Also generous with marking too.
I like Lucio's way of teaching. Term exams are a little bit tricky at some point but they get easier as the term goes by. I really appreciate how he responds so quickly. I was messaging him during reading break and he answered so fast (unlike other profs), he even responds to emails in the morning, such a nice guy!!
He is the only prof I had this term that actually responded to emails and questions and it actually helped,, good to see after seeing basically every other professor didn't care enough to put in that little bit of effort to even respond to emails even after we paid thousands of dollars.
he is such an amazing prof! he is soo caring and replies to emails soo quick even if you email him at 1am he will reply in 30 mins his tests were straight forward but he is super accommodating and caring 100% if you have to pick take his class
He is the only prof I had this term that responded to emails and questions and it actually helped,, good to see after basically every other professor didn't put in that little bit of effort to even respond to emails even after we paid thousands of dollars.
He's really nice. Don't mind the low ratings. IF you study well, you'll do good. Very good lectures. Bonus marks on the last exam!
Hands down, the most caring prof. Email him at midnight and he would reply quickly.
Dr Gelmini made chem 102 really easy to understand. I am not good at chem, and I'm surprised by my high grades.
I recommend him. Take him if you can. He's one of the best profs!
I remember when he said, " I feel bad for myself, I'm balancing chemical equations while you guys are watching euphoria." It was funny. Take him if you can :)
The best of the best.
he is the best take him if u can
I had him twice and to be very honest he was one of the best chemistry professors I have had. He responded to emails about questions very quickly and was able to help whenever he could. Yes, the exams were difficult if you don't do the work for it. Pay attention, do the work, and you will enjoy it.
Lucio was by far one of the best profs I ever had here at MacEwan. I never witnessed a prof who truly cared about their students as much as he did. He went out of his way to make sure that all his students get the help they need to do well in this class. He was very responsive with emails and accommodating. Truly one of the best at MacEwan!
If you show up to the classes, you will do well. Very accomodating and respected! He changed the final term exam date so that everyone in the class can write it at a suitable time. He even gave bonus marks on the last term exam which helped many students. Very quick in answering emails, sometimes will respond in less than 15 min. Highly recommend!
Explains everything well in detail . Easy grader
He is incredibly rude whenever you email him or even ask for help on something. Everyone that says that he shows his love for chemistry is lying. He does not care about your success and he doesn't seem to enjoy teaching at all. Avoid if you can.
hes nice and always is willing to help you if you have any questions.
Lucio is an awesome prof, he is very accessible outside of class, and he has interactive lectures that help keep you engaged. Very helpful when you ask questions. Very knowledgeable in his field and is good at explaining difficult concepts.
Great professor, and super kind. Good lectures too. Didn't need to use the textbook at all.
Personally, I just found his lectures to be extremely confusing. He does't explain things, he just answers it on the board but doesn't tell you the reason for each step. Found his class impossible to understand despite going regularly. Very passionate about chemistry but he was very unengaging and would often make mistakes on slide questions.
Dr. Gelmini was amazing, he is so caring and an amazing teacher! He is well spoken and can explain the material in a way that is simple enough for you to understand. Chemistry has never been so fun for me! Would definitely recommend him.
He is a terrible professor I would stay clear of his class if possible. The exam questions and completely different than the practice questions given. He is a terrible marker and will not give part marks.
Lucio is a kind-hearted person who is very good at responding to emails. He provides you with practice that is for marks, but don't get the textbook if you don't think you need it for extra practice! He assigns helpful review classes before exams. His order of lectures don't line up with the lab material and he can be hard to listen to for 2 hours.
I personally think that Lucio is an awesome professor. I struggled a lot in chemistry understanding the concepts, but Lucio really helped with that. He was always willing to help however much I needed. Very caring and kind, and really wants to see you do well. Tests are exactly what he shows you to review.
Dr. Gelmini is amazing in what he does. I have very high respect for him. I usually don't like chemistry, but this semester was a blast with him. He has the best values that a professor could have, funny, helpful, great lectures, and keeps the atmosphere smooth for learning. Hands down, the best professor at MacEwan by far. I wish him all the best!
Sometimes he goes a bit fast but overall he is a really good teacher and is able to explain things well. Gives review questions for the end of every chapter. If you can do the review questions you will have no problem with the exam, as I found the review questions to be harder than the exams. Pretty easy marker.
If you put in just a bit of effort and make sure to always do his end-of-powerpoint questions, it is an easy A. Lucio is truly the best prof; I had him for both 101 and 102. he provides recorded lectures, and clear grading criteria, very helpful .
Best professor I ever have, hands down. His tests were straightforward, and if you do the questions at the end of his powerpoint then you will ace his tests. He did a lot of practice questions, which were super helpful, and I would highly recommend attending his review lectures before the exams, where he would answer any questions students had.
Lucio is a kind, caring and funny professor. He is so helpful during office hours. He truly loves science and all things chemistry. He wants all of his students to succeed. He is always available outside of class, outside of office hours and stays back after lectures to answer all of your questions. Exams are fair and no surprises!
His lecture is super boring, he goes through the material super fast and I ended up re learning it myself in the weekend. His test is quite difficult . sometime he made up an example on the spot and couldn't even solve it which is quite confusing.
Although he is very caring, lectures are difficult to follow along. He mumbles and confuses things often. He is clearly passionate about chemistry is was always good with answering emails and questions (be prepared to ask a lot of questions to keep up). If you have trouble focusing or don't do well with self-learning material, I would steer clear.
Ended up teaching myself all of the material for the exams because the lectures are hard to follow. Learning objectives aren't clear. The exams don't reflect the practice material well enough, a bunch of them are completely unrelated to the emphasized practice material. He is fair with evaluating exams and taking off unfair questions, though.
Wouldn't recommend, very condescending when asking a question like what is your purpose? He will answer to half the email if you send him one. Lectures are super boring and he seems confused at his own questions. You'll end up relearning everything on your own, no point in going to lectures. The labs saved my grades. He does give pratice questions.
He tells you that you don't need to buy the book, but what he teaches isn't always on the exam. After mid-terms, 1/3 dropped his class.
He had this amazing habit of over explaining simple concepts so much that your brain does a full 360 by the end of the lecture and you leave knowing just as much as you came in.
This class has so much content that its really hard to learn everything but that's not his fault. He records almost every lecture so you can watch it at home and its super helpful when you forget something or he went too fast in the lecture. I liked him but his tests can be hard and the assignments he gives online are incredibly time consuming.
He posts video recordings of all the lectures as well as corrections of the midterms. Replies to emails very fast. Lectures feel long but he gives a break in the middle to sit down and ask him questions. Very kind. Monotone but he is funny tbh. Exams are reflective of class examples. A nice guy who gives good explanations.
After dealing with a horrible chem professor this semester, I can say that Gelmini's teaching was without a doubt significantly better. Wish I took chem 102 with him instead of the professor I have currently lol (note: I took chem 101 with Gelmini the previous semester)
Lucio was an okay professor but tests consisted of all short answer. His lectures are very monotone and boring but he does record them for you so its okay if you miss a few classes.
Best chem teacher! Don't need to buy the textbook and he provides a review session before each exam. Always accessible outside of class and his exams are fair. Just do the in-class problems, end of questions and mastering chem and that's an easy A. Recommend him!
Great prof. Answers emails quickly and will answer any question you have no matter what during office hours or breaks during class. Records lectures but I recommend going to class because he writes/draws a lot on the board which the video lectures don't show, and they can be really helpful to see. Take him if you can!
I had Lucio for both of my Chem 101 and Chem 102 classes. He always records his lectures but I still recommend going to class. He also alters your midterm marks if you do significantly better on the final; boosting marks!! He is always available for his office hours so I would highly recommend him for your introductory Chemistry courses!
He is an amazing prof. Whenever, I went for help he was super nice and chill. He record the lecture, his exams are not that difficult if you understand the concepts. If you actually understand whats happening its not that hard. But labs are way more easier then chem 101 labs.
he over complicates simple concepts and his exams do not correlate to what he teaches in class. he does not teach well. he is very borning and monotone and it is difficult to comprehend what hes trying to teach. his classes will leave you more confused than when you first entered. you will be teaching yourself the entire semester.
The course itself isn't difficult to understand, it's his teaching. He goes through the powerpoints too fast and it's difficult to hear and understand what he says. He records his lectures but you can't hear anything. Expect to self teach.
He overcomplicates subjects that shouldn't be hard to understand and leaves you confused at the end of the class. Dont even bother asking him questions because he'll give you half an answer or you'll be even more confused. His tests have nothing to do with the questions/ practice that we do and doesn't give any practice tests before the midterm.
Gelmini's CHEM101 is challenging, but the recorded lectures and helpful labs make it manageable. unstuck AI was a lifesaver for preparing for exams.
the course isnt very difficult, but with his teaching style it makes the course a whole lot harder than it is. He lectures are long and he goes by certain points too fast. Hes monotone and a little boring, not to mention his recordings are hard to hear. Expect to teach yourself the entire curriculum.
I normally don't hate a subject much but with lucio I have never hated doing chemistry more in my life. His Mastering chem assignment, though helpful for studying can be extremely time consuming and confusing and sometimes don't reflect exams. I had to reteach my self every single subject simply because his lectures were impossible to follow.
He doesn't chill with the midterm and Finals questions, I'd advise you to consider taking other profs except you're ready to have only Caluicting questions for midterms rather than having Multiple choice with other better profs
This man deserves better, he set aside an hour of lecture time to go over questions and no one asked any. He does magic tricks in class. At times he goes through things fast but his slides and lectures are all posted. The exams are hard and very calculation heavy but he gives us previous exam questions to practice. idk what more he could do.
Had him for my lecture, CHEM 101. He read off his slideshow's, (will not work well on ipad), recorded his lessons which was helpfull. BUT he really overcomplicated his teaching (taught lots of excess info), this was also found by my classmates. When he teaches he tends to go off on rambles, he also does not at all stick to his course outline.
I would not recommend his class. He records his lectures which is nice but when you go up to ask him a question he is sometimes helpful sometimes passive aggressive. He's not very good at teaching and I often had to teach myself the topics. Unless you really understand chemistry don't take him
Although his tests are written, he's very generous when giving part marks wherever he can. He records his lectures which makes up for the fact he does move at a fast pace when teaching but makes time before midterms and the final to do review or to ask questions.
Great prof. explains things really clearly. consists of 2 midterms(make sure you do the end of chapter questions) and a final. As long as you do the sample questions you should be fine.
Dr Gelmini is an okay professor, not horrible but has some not so great things going. He's very knowledgeable which is his biggest strength and greatest weakness. He overcomplicates simple concepts and his notes are quite messy and hard to understand. His tests are difficult, all being short answer, but everything is covered in class or assignments
If you aren't the type of person to ask questions in class, I'd recommend saving your time and just watching the lecture videos he posts instead of attending. His exams are hard but the sample questions he provides help a lot and he is pretty gracious on giving part marks.
Prof Gelmini was great at teaching chem. You have to show up and keep up with the mastering chemistry homework-- which you have so much time to work on, its 100% manageable. But he answered his email quickly and was easily able to re-explain anything that went over my head after the lecture. Absolutely going to try and get into his chem 102 class.
Best chem prof at macewan. I found the mastering chem to be very difficult and was never put on the exams. But he is a REALLY EASY GRADER LIKE HE GIVES PART MARKS FOR ANYTHING. Midterms are not too bad but you need to put in the work. Lectures are recorded but going to class is better. Just do end of chapter questions and you are GOOD.
I had dr. gelmini for chem 101 and chem 102. end of chapter questions and understanding the mastering chemistry questions is crucial. lectures can be very boring and i had to self teach a lot, but he records lectures which was super helpful. midterms and final are short answer but u get to take the midterms home. practice them before the final!!
He does not provide good information and what is provided often conflicts with other things he has said, will not be taking again
The hardest part of the class was staying awake. Lucio's teaching is good and the fact that he records every lecture bumped my rating up to a 4, but holy smokes his class is boring. Gives lots of part marks.
Overall great professor, make sure you do the achieve quizzes and end of chapter slide questions. Not a fan of his “review” classes, as their just questions students have. He doesnt doesn't do a very well job of explaining questions and he writes really small and messy so make sure you are actively listening and paying attention
Extremely boring lectures if you need to stay awake during his class take a shot of espresso prior to attending, recorded lectures so attendance isn't mandatory, convert unnecessary material that is not on either midterm or the final, gives lots of part marks.
