She is a good teacher. Sounds like Dr. Phil and kinda speaks to you as kindergardeners. However, she is fair and will give A's quite readily. Class is not hard at all. She takes attendance and don't come in late!

She made herself available, explained everything thoroughly and took extra time with students if necessary. I honestly can't understand how someone could objectively give this woman good marks.

Very nice teacher. I wasn't unable to come to class when I was supposed to give a presentation, and she was very understanding and let me do it another day. As long as you make it to class on time, it will be an easy A.

Best teacher I ever had. I wish there were more like her. She knows her stuff. It may seem to some that she is an easy A but you really have to work for that A.

BEST TEACHER EVER! I thoroughly enjoyed her class. She was helpful to me and others and encouraged each one of us to excel in and out of class, including running for Student Gov't. It was easy to earn my A, but I couldn't slack any and had to do the work.

She was one of my best teachers, she was very interesting and kept you attention. I would like to take an other class from her. To the person who said she was insulted. Maybe it was something YOU did?

I thought she was great-very passionate with her teaching and very forgiving with her grading. If someone didn't do well--they didn't try hard enough. All she wants is effort--she doesn't expect you to give a perfect speech.

It is difficult to imagine that anyone would have unkind feedback about this professor. She is one of the kindest and most insightful teachers I have had. She helps everyone to feel very comfortable and she is extremely encouraging. I feel very fortunate to have taken her class and I highly recommend others to take her class as well.

Ms. Holsonbake was without a doubt one of the best college professors that I have ever had. The effective strategies that she used for teaching were not only extremely helpful, but they contributed towards making the class environment more comfortable. Ms.Holsonbake is without a doubt the best professor in the history of NOVA. She teaches speech so you are really engaged in the subject. There was a lot of public speaking which will make you comfortable about getting in front of an audience, she gives you confidence. Great class if you are a social person, if you're not, you will be!

pretty easy class. just chill. also their is one test but its EASY you can do really good on it without studying much. follow her directions on the group project or you will find your self in trouble. she wont let you fail but its nice to get it done right the first time. over all a pretty good teacher. you have to work for the A but not very hard

One of the best teachers I've had- she is a gem! She truly loves what she teaches, provides a variety of teaching tools, keeps you engaged and learning. This class is fun. Lots of participation, interesting examples, real life applications. Come to class with a positive attitude, do the minimal assignments she prescribes, easy A!

I took Ms. Holsonbake Fall 2008 and she is the best professor at NOVA. She loves what she does and to those who believe she is a bad teacher get a life cause she is willing to help you in any way possible and she is so nice. Her class inspire me to do my best in everything. You can't ask for a more exciting, passionate, rewarding teacher like her!

She really knows her topic, she communicates crystal clear. I had a lot of anxiety walking into this class, and she's quite an intimidating lady, but I learned a lot in that class. In fact, I feel like her class is the only class I've taken so far that I feel like I'll use in the real world.

Ms. Holsonbake was one of my favourite professors at NOVA thus far! She was a great talker and really explained throughly. She gave clear contact information too! This class was a requirement for my major that I wasn't interested in taking. Luckily, she made the class interesting and very low stress. Pleasant class, no textbook, very little out of class work, no tests, one project, and attendance counts as a grade. She can be eccentric but it keeps the class interesting. Highly recommended. VERY easy A.

She teaches people to communicate, if they have difficulty with that. If you are a great communicator, and have ideas that don't fit her paradigm, you better get out of her class.

Very easy A, but she does want you to talk. Attendance is very mandatory and no cell phone usage is kind of annoying. DO NOT buy the textbook, you don't use it.

You will be an idiot if you don't take her for Communications class discussion mandatory try not be late to class everyday but she's extremely down to earth you have a paper on Paradigms and group project not to mention extra credit. She is very sweet and down to earth. She does not use a textbook. She prefers to teach through interaction and experience. When I first enter this classroom, I was really nervous to talk in public. However, in the end I was able to talk confidently among people. I would highly recommend her to anyone who wants to develop their confidence.

350 characters is not enough to sing her praises. She fosters a creative environment and encourages the expression of student opinion. The most important skill she taught us was how to get excited about something and research it ourselves. That skill will do me far more good during my life than any fact memorized from a textbook.

This prof was OKAY but the class is EASY. The only thing that I hated was the FINAL PRESENTATION we did. I felt that it was worthless & too much picture & videos.

Whoever is taking communication, please take this Instructor because she's the best at what she does. She's very open to talk to, she doesn't mind helping you with anything , and she will help you through every step. She's also very patient , she likes her students to be punctual to class,and if your late to class just take a sit and keep silence.

SHE IS THE BEST! She works with ALL her students and defines what communication really is! Some videos and some projects but they are all on point to what she is talking about and relates to the everyday life. no textbook needed and you must talk! its Communication for crying out loud! i would take her again if i could!!

Professor Lucy is amazing, she is funny and cares about all of her students. She is definitely the best CST professor in NOVA. You will get an Easy A with her she is awesome.

Professor Holsonbake is a kind, caring instructor who's willing to listen to you and what you are dealing with and still makes the class fun and interesting. Dont expect an easy A. Proff Holsonbake is really understanding but you will still need to work for it. And if u do its all worth it and your communication skills will be that much better.

You only have to write one paper and give about two speeches. her class is really easy, just show up and be respectable and you should be okay. Her style of teaching is different than most. Likes to build a sense of community in class and doesn't believe communication can be achieved through just textbooks.

She doesn't care about grades. If you do your work and participate you'll get an A. She doesn't use textbook, which is a plus. She can be harsh on you if you don't pay attention to her lecture, she will call you out if you are on your phone. Other than that, she's really nice and understanding. Miss her class 4 times equal zero for participation.

Prof. Holsonbake is truly amazing. We never get hw, but sometimes we do (mostly looking stuff up). I'm horrible at speaking in front of others but she made it feel comfortable. There will be times where you have to present in front of your classmates, one research presentation, and one essay (3-5 pages) and that's about it. TAKE HER.

Shes a really easy teacher. Not much homework at all, just taking notes of some videos, a 3-5 page essay and the final is just a speech in front of class 3-5 minutes long. She doesnt use a textbook with is great!

Easy A and she is hilarious. You will have a lot of group meeting but its not that hard topic to discuss. You will write one essay and one presentation.

Prof Holsonbake is an acquired taste, but her class is INSANELY easy to pass. Show up on time, participate in discussions, and listen to her "lectures" (which often get derailed when she thinks of something else she'd like to discuss). I cannot stress HOW EASY THIS CLASS IS. Hands down the best professor I've ever had. All you need to do is show up and be willing to try and you'll pass - but I learned SO much this semester and it was all without the stress of tons of homework. This is what learning SHOULD be like. Real college class. Very realistic rather than transcript grades one. She cares so much of every single of her student and very understanding. Take her not to get an A but to learn real-life lessons, discuss important topics you probably won't be able to elsewhere, boost your confidence. The course was very unstructured which occasionally made it hard to follow what we were supposed to be doing, but it was still a good class for relearning basic public speaking and communication skills. Most grades come from participating in in-class activities so if you don't show up you're in trouble. Very kind and understanding professor.

She is so nice, and she is willing to help you if you do not understand an assignment. You can have the opportunity to retake any of the speeches you do in her class. She the best, you will have fun and will learn a lot.

This professor is very sweet. I really miss her. We did not have to buy a textbook for this class as she chose a free one for us. This was a communication class, so we were required to turn on our camera (Just be confident and turn it on). Participate in class, follow her instructions, and do your assignments, you will get a good grade.

I've always feared speaking in public until I enrolled in Prof. Holsonbake's class. She is AMAZING! She teaches you the basics of speaking in front of others and especially making the eye contact. This is NOT an easy A class. Attendance and participation are mandatory. Working hard on improving your speeches is a must in order to get good grade.

She is an amazing prof. She does require to have cameras on but that is def expected from a public speaking class. Her feed back is very useful in the workforce and I have been able to apply it in my everyday life. She truly cares for her students success and will go above and beyond to help them out. I was originally dreading taking this class, I thought it would just be about how to give speeches. But professor Holsonbake has changed my view of communications. She creates a unique environment and cares about your education. This class requires participation and being open to critical (but productive) feedback.

Professor Holsonbake is a real gem! She gives very constructive criticism and feedback. She also applies the material that she teaches to the real world which I feel will help me down the road. You can tell she teaches not because of a paycheck (Which you see in most professors now) but because she is passionate and caring about her students.

My favorite professor of all time, GOATed with the sauce. Just pay attention, engage in her banter with the class, and feel free to chime in to contribute to the discussion. You'll get the A, this is not a hard class to get yourself to wake up for. I genuinely had so much fun taking this class AND IVE NEVER SAID THAT BEFORE ABOUT ANY CLASS.

The professor was excellent and incredibly engaging. Before taking this class, I didn't have many friends at college. However, the atmosphere she created was greatly welcoming and friendly that it brought everyone together. By the end of the course, I had formed meaningful friendships with my classmates. Loved Prof Holsonbake! She is definitely a tough love lady and wants you to push yourself to succeed. Her grading system I'd describe as vibes and participation/attendance. Barely any homework for this class. Push yourself out of your comfort zone and just talk and you'll pass this class easily.
