Barrios was the best professor i have ever had. his classes are very easy in regards to work. u only have a midterm, final, and paper. he clarifies certain concepts that affect us everyday. and he's from Puerto Rico, where i'm from!!

He's a incredible professor. Speaks about realistic things that are happening around the world. Gives a midterm,final(are take home)& a paper. I would recommend him to anyone.

He is a man that seriously hates the US government. All types of government officials. He hasn't given us the results for the midterm back yet and it is already the end of the semester. My friends say that he is the best prof. they had. I won't know yet because I don't have a grade from him yet.

Dr.Barrios is one of the extremely few Professors at JJ that knows what he is talking about.Some will take offense to his methods of teaching because he is very opiniated and passionate in his field of discipline but he ALWAYS supports his ideas with evidence. Just wants to expose you to the causes of liberal thinking. If you are a minority chances are you will identify and fly through the class. I was a dope, went against the grain and spoke my mind. I wound up doing more work but still got an A. He disagreed with my point of view but respected my logic.

I am white and i did not feel that he differentiated between minorities and others. I think he is very fair and logical. Very anti-bush which is always a plus, if you cant handle boldness or are a nationalist, dont take him. I think he's the man.

Great Prof. Didn't know what to expect from the class. He makes you think and allows you to form your own opinion on the topics discussed. Just do the work (not hard), keep up with the reading and you will be fine.

the only thing that i can say is that prof Barrios is not like a professor, he will be your friend. he likes to talk about social injustice and he will encourage you to do something to fix that. the papers are take home. try to go to the conference that he invites you because they will help you to write your papers.

this professor is very funny and straight up,unfortunately this semester i didn't see too much of him seeing as he was in jail towards the end of my semester,left another professor to take over the class, hardly gives tests and the h.w. all consist of reading,he gives a 10 page paper as well, i recommend him as a professor.

Excellent Professor. Work included 1 midterm and 1 final take home, minor quizzes on readings, 1 paper, and plenty of extra credit. Professor is engaging and makes you think. I was truly upset on days I couldn't get to class. Would definitely recommend him and would take his classes again. Even if you don't agree with him you'll enjoy his class.

He's a interesting prof. We had a take home midterm & final, one group presentation, and a 10 page paper. To tell you the truth I don't think he even read our papers. He didn't give any of our papers back in the course of the semester. I must admit that his class was very interesting and enlightening. A prof you must take before you graduate.

I always looked forward to coming to his class. His teaching methods (consisting of cursing, hearing different points of views, and personal stories) makes the class interesting and fun. Great teacher, very enthusiastic and community involved. He grabs your attention with interesting life stories he's been through. He uses 2 books which you need, no homework but you have to do the readings, take home midterm and final and a 10page research paper

Luis is just Brilliant !! *Don't call him professor,ONLY Luis. Assigns take home mid/final both in essay form. Never returns your work n don't ask, he do not like that. Give final paper@the end n ask him where u stand n what u think u deserve. Do all extra credits, talk to him in his office hours show him that u care n u get the grade u deserve.

Amazing professor had him on a study abroad he's very caring and if you approach him with a question he's more then happy to help. If he sees you slacking or the class he will make pop quizzes but you learn a lot from the man totally worth it!

Hes very repetitive and Brings his activism into the classroom but it keeps things interesting! Because hes so repetitive , things stick , and you learn! Prof. Barrios is really funny. He is awesome bc he opens your eyes to a lot of things. If you want to learn, this class will teach you stuff you will NEED FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE! Get to know him and don't be afraid to speak to him. He doesn't give stuff back, but if you are a hard-worker then don't worry, you'll do great !! XD

Prof. Barrios is the strong activist type. Doesn't give tests but sometimes gives pop quiz's on readings. Not much homework and if there is, only a page long. There's a Midterm, Final, and Research Paper. (Make sure to use APA Bibliography on all of these!!!!, even if it doesn't say.) Pretty easy grader and the textbook is only like $20-$30.

He's a great guy but very left-minded. Would like to see some more objectivity in his lectures and present all different arguments and ideals. He is also a strong activist which may appeal to some. I would take him, though.

Luis has a great soul. This was my fourth time taking him and he never fails to teach me so many things. As usual he requires a midterm, a short paper based on what you've learned in class so far, a final exam and a final paper of 10 pages. he likes debating but will remember that.

Professor Barrios is very knowledgeable about Central American history and he knows about US foreign policy. He's extremely sharp so don't try to play unnecessary games when it comes to his class.

Course LLS356- Really amazing prof. Has a lot of life experiences and stories. take home exam and 10 pg paper. He states what he would like to see in the paper and the structure. Pretty straight forwards. Text book is a must for the take home. Easy A, just do what he asks for and follow instructions. Will def take again!

took 2x in the past in the same the semester, I vowed never to take him again. Though he thinks he lays out his criteria very clearly, you can hit all those points and still get a C. I consider myself lucky that I got an A this time even though I was just as diligent as I was in the past. My advise would be to be on top of him. Take your chances.

He's a great professor but I feel like I didn't learn what i thought i would. He uses his life experiences to teach the course. His stories are interesting but i wish i learned more about foreign policies.

Great Professor. Takes teaching very seriously, doesnt allow phones in class, or being late. He loves class discussions and is very relatable and understanding. Definitely recommend taking his class he sticks to the syllabus and is very straight forward. Also reading is a must.

One of the best professors that any person can take at John Jay. Luis is straightforward when it comes to assignments, and is not afraid to tell it like it is with any lecture. He will make you laugh and challenge the way you comprehend history you already knew. This is one class I did not mind working for the grade and would happily do it again.

Prof. Barrios is highly respected in the JJ community. Ask any of your professors & I'm sure they've heard of him. He is a very busy man. The class is based on a take-home midterm, a group presentation assigned by the country he wants each group to work on, followed by a take-home final and uploading your presentation to youtube.

He is very respectful and loves everyone in the class. He helps the class to understand history about particular people and tell his class to avoid what the media write about some selected countries, but rather do proper and appropriate research. He is one of the best ever at John Jay College .

Took him for LLS 242, AND LLS 250.. both were very easy classes for me. He goes off topic a lot, but is never boring. No homeworks, and just a final paper. He cancels class a lot, but who does not like that lol.

He's really nice and understanding, entertaining class. No homework really, just readings, a group project and a final. He cancels class a lot and does not always give good notice. But that is really my only complaint. I'd recommend him highly. And he goes off topic but about things that are relevant, so you learn a lot more lol.

I was nervous to take this class due to the mixed reviews but the class was fairly simple and I learned a lot from his lectures. Attendance matters but he was very understanding. Grading was a bit strict but everyone in the class ended up doing well as long as you completed all of the assignments.
