Really straight forward teacher! Tells you exactly what you need to know on each test!!!!
One of the best undergrad professors I've ever had! Def. makes learning statistics easier than any other professor I've ever had. Is very straightforward and makes sure each student grasps the material before moving on to next topic.
AWESOME TEACHER! Easy A if you keep up with the lectures...Nice guy and tells you exactly what is on the exam! Take him!
Thick accent, goes over stuff ad infinitum, really boring but if you even sort of pay attention then you'll understand the lesson, so that's nice. Lots of mini quizzes but always with a formula sheet of whatever you want to put on there. Basically, an easy class.
Had better
Honestly...if you dont get an A in this class is because you're an idiot! He gives you a review sheet before the exam in which he barely changes anything. If that doesnt help, go to the review the class before the test and he tells you EXACTLY what will be on the exam! He's just as lazy as we are and he's nice too! :)
Really good teacher.. you get over his accent fast.. homework is not mandatory bc if he collects it, it goes toward extra credit, but you probably won't even need it
BEST TEACHER EVER!! I have already had him for two classes, choose him!!
Good teacher. You do get over his accent fast. Willing to help his students as much as he can; especially if you do not understand. I am taking him again for the second section of stats. I surely recommend him.
Great professor! Makes things easy to understand. He's very clear and concise. Also really helpful and just a nice guy.
envelope He is a great teacher who explains things in a clear and organized manner, so going to class is very helpful. He lets you have a formula sheet for the 3 exams and 8 quizzes (drops lowest 3), which are easy anyway, so the class is very manageable. We usually get out early and he is stylish haha, definitely take Bazan!
Awesome teacher. He doesn't give partial credit so be very meticulous on his tests. I enjoyed his class. It takes barely any time out of class. Just make your cheat sheets and your ready to go!
Bazan Vega is the man! super easy. 8 quizzes and he drops the lowest 3 grades. 2 Midterm exams (non-cumulative) and 1 Final. Lets you use a formula sheet. Really hard NOT to do well
Definitely the best professor for MAS202. Take him over the other professors.
Presents material very clearly and effectively! Realistic with the homework he assigns and will try to help students as much as possible with grades and understanding material. Always takes the time to ask after reviewing homework and learning a new concept if anyone has any questions.
Best stats teacher. Tells you what to expect on quiz and tests. Notes are posted on Blackboard usually less than a page.
Useless. Doesn't teach you or help you understand anything. You will not be prepared for 202. Even if this class seems easy, it's not worth it in the long run. Don't be fooled by the reviews on here. Also, he gives hardly any partial credit and grades very strictly
MY favorite prof at UM. I took him for MAS 201 and 202. Once you get used to his accent, everything is very straight forward. He teaches you only what you need to know for the exams and you get out early almost every class. He also lets you have a note sheet for every quiz and exam, so you don't have to memorize anything. Take him!!
LOVE him! Super organized, gives you all of the notes up front, gives a test review before the tests. The tests are definitely trickier than the hw and class exercises but doable. And he always lets you out early, like you're only there like 45 min tops!! I'm taking him next semester too, def recommend!
the first two exams were simple and exactly the same as his example problems. however, the final was awful. It was nothing like the example problems and unbelievably difficult. You dont need to do anything or pay attention in class (cant really understand him anyway). He wont help you or care about the class. Also no partial credit whatsoever
This class is ridiculously easy, I find it incomprehensible as to how anyone can fail this class. Two exams and the final were not at all challenging. However, the professor is not at all helpful as he is impertinent and unintelligible; probably because he doesn't take interest in his job.
Professor Bazan-Vega is the best for this class! I also took MAS201 with him. He presents the material very clearly on the whiteboard. Although there are pop quizzes, I didn't find the class to be stressful at all. It's important to keep up with the class and do all of the homework assignments. He is one of the nicest and fairest professors!
Worst professor u can have don't take it
Useless. Doesn't teach you or help you understand anything. You will not be prepared for 202. Even if this class seems easy, it's not worth it in the long run. Don't be fooled by the reviews on here. Also, he gives hardly any partial credit and grades very strictly
DO NOT THINK TO TAKE IT :S
He is soooo nice....It's an easy A. His class it's knida boring but it's useful for beginingers. Take him!
Prof. Bazan is a nice professor and straight to the point. He will give quizzes exactly like your homework, and let you use 1 sheet of notes for the test and quizzes. Good professor, I would recommend highly taking the class with him
Easy class. His accent is pretty thick and most of the time it's pretty hard to understand what he's talking about but the material is really straight forward so it doesn't really matter. I highly recommend taking him-if you want an easy experience.
His quizzes are easy and announced (date and content of the material). He knows very well how to teach the material, gives very little hw that is NOT for a grade. If you fail its really your own fault. Easy grade.
Really nice professor ! not too easy but still isnt that hard ! Nice personality ! TAKE HIM!
Easy A - tests and quizzes are almost exactly like the HW and examples he does in class. Attendance is NOT mandatory, but you definitely wanna show up to get the examples
MAS 201 sucks but unfortantely as a BUS major you must take it. Bazan has a tough to understand accent and it's hard to follow what he's saying but at least he lets you bring a cheat sheet to class on quiz and exam days. Under no circumstance take the 2.5 hour weekly lecture. It was the worst decision I've ever made.
Literally show up to class and you will get an A. Goes over 3 examples per class and shows step by step how to do it, and then assigns about 3 more of the exact same problems for homework which is not collected. He then takes 1 example from each class and puts it on the test. The questions are virtually the exact same.
He is an amazing teacher that explains things very thoroughly. He posts everything (including the homework) online. He has several "pop" quizzes that he tells you about in advance and you can use a cheat sheet on each one. Overall one of the best statistics teachers at Miami and if you go to class/ review online material you will pass no question.
Although his accent can be hard to understand sometimes and his lectures are a little boring, he teaches the material in a very straightforward manner and as long as you copy down the examples you are sure to get an A. You are allowed to have a sheet of notes on the exam and I literally copied down all of the examples from class and got a 100%.
Hard to understand, extremely boring
Very good teacher and very easy to succeed in his class if you put in the effort. Yes, he is hard to understand because of his thick accent BUT once you get past that he is a fantastic teacher. Go to class and you will get an A! Great guy
MAS202 with Bazan was pretty easy. He does examples on the board and they are almost identical to the questions on the exam. He posts notes on blackboard, but they are sometimes hard to figure out so you should try and go to class as often as possible.
Everything is very straight forward. New stat lesson every class. Notes aren't online so go to class or read textbook to learn. Attendance not mandatory and quiz every other class. He is a little hard to understand, but its stats so it doesn't really matter just follow along with the math. He is a solid teacher.
Worst teacher by far at UM, if he doesnt like you he refuses to help you in office hours and you can barely understand him, AVOID AT ALL COSTS
He is a very good teacher with very specific examples pertaining to what you need to know. As long as you study and understand the homework, the tests are quite easy.
Good teacher, appreciated him because he kept things simple. Lets everyone know about when the quizzes will be and only grades your best 5 out of 9-10 quizzes. 3 tests are given, they can be tough, but he makes sure to list the specific lessons that will be included.
This guy is one of the worst professors. Very difficult to understand what hes saying, and also has a very aggressive teaching style. He gives you cheat sheets for every quiz and exam for you to rely on, but then hell give the hardest possible equations the section has to offer on exams.. never learned a thing. Bad teaching style
Honestly the worst professor I have had throughout my schooling experience. He seems like a nice guy but I can never understand what the hell he is saying. He has a very thick accent making it difficult to understand. I took MAS 201 the semester before so I had knowledge coming into the class. I got a 100% on the 1st exam and a 38% on the 2nd.
- Hes not a huge fan of partial credit - His accent can be difficult to understand sometimes - Hes organized and usually gives a quiz every week (but only counts the best 5/9) and you can replace your lowest test grade with the final - He also will tell you what concepts will be on the test and how many Qs which is nice - Hes rough sometime
He gives quizzes weekly but will drop half of the lowest grades. He can go pretty fast unless you ask questions and if you have any previous knowledge of calculus the class is not difficult at all. I would definitely recommend taking if you have calculus experience.
Caring professor and gives easy tests! There are 8 quizzes and only counts the best five. He tells you exactly what is going to be in the exam so that you don't have to study everything. He lets you bring a formula sheet and you can write anything on there.
AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS!!!! His class is extremely boring. He has a very thick accent that is very hard to understand. You will not get much from his class. Most students in his class have to learn all the materials outside of the class. His tests are usually 4-5 questions. Each question worth 25-30 points. If you miss two questions, you fail.
Took him for MAS110/MAS201/MAS202 and he's just the best! Super straight forward w/ his teaching, has his lectures all organized by numbers. If you dont understand something, just go to his office and he will clarify to you. If he sees you are putting effort, he will help you. Got an A in all his classes. One of my favorite professors at UM.
Good teacher by math standards. The reality is most math classes are the same, but he explains things well and what is on the Tests is the same as the material before
He is very nice but you have to teach yourself everything after class because he is extremely difficult to understand and does not show you how he gets answers, he comes with everything prewritten to class and speeds through the material. Waste of time.
He has a v e r y heavy accent and gives many pop quizzes. Class is straightforward, but felt like a waste of time. Each test only has 3-4 questions, which is very annoying if you miss a question. Pop quizzes about once a week. Try to find a different professor, but the stats department at U Miami is about the same.
Very caring professor, understanding and accommodating. Explains concepts really well and is very organized with his notes/teaching. Lets you know well in advance when you'll have a quiz or exam. Drops the 2 worst quizzes out of 7. Great Prof.
He was awesome for MAS201. I got an A+ in that class. For 202 everything is different he has a hard time explaining the material. The class gets so much harder. He is difficult to ask questions too. He does not give you your exam back so you have no idea what you did wrong. Not the worst prof, but not the best for MAS202.
He has a VERY heavy accent and rushes through class. You basically have to learn the material on your own. He doesnt explain things and always ends class really early. I do not recommend taking him for this class you will have a very difficult time.
This man literally gets paid to show up and point things at a board for 20 minutes before he ends class 30 minutes early. You will definitely learn more by looking at his notes by yourself than by him teaching them. He is also very unreasonable when it comes to getting extra credit. If you can take a different professor do it.
He does have a heavy accent but he's so funny just the way he teaches and the things he says. The whole class is so easy you can pass without studying, just take notes because every test/quiz is open notes.
At first, I loved it. Although hes impossible to understand, I loved his humor and how every quiz was open notes. I flew by the semester with ease... until the final. What a complete scam. Saw questions/concepts he never taught. He couldnt care less about your previous grades or effort. Fail the final, fail the course. Awful. Do not take. Hate him.
The class was pretty easy for the most part but if you have not taken calculus I would not recommend him. He doesn't teach rather just points to the board but everything was not bad up until the final which was insanely hard based off his other assessments and hurt my grade.
The professor is very nice and sometimes funny, however, he doesn't teach. In high school, I never took Calculus 1, so the content was a bit new. You are gonna have to study a lot for the final if you want to get a good grade. The Final was extremely hard which hurt my grade.
Personality: Great Textbook: Don't get one Attendance: If you want to pass go to class otherwise you will be lost Quizzes and exams are open note
Professor Vega's lectures can be hard to follow but the exams are exactly like his notes. Exams are open-note and as long as you study beforehand you will be fine. He gives 7 quizzes and drops the 2 lowest ones. He ends class early almost every day. He does take attendance randomly throughout the semester so it is important to go to class.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. His grading is the worst. You could get almost everything right and get one number wrong and he won't give you any credit. I went to office hours and he stood at the door while I asked questions about my exam and he had no answers. I am a good student, I have never cried so much over a class, only on test 2 and I'm gonna fail.
This was the WORST teacher I have ever had at UM. The professor is VERY difficult to understand, gets angry at questions, explains nothing, and assigns quizzes every week. His exams are extremely hard as well. You do get cheat sheets for the quizzes and exams, so if you manage to teach yourself the content, you'll be somewhat fine. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Professor Bazan Vega was very hard to understand, and I did poorly in class. Attendance was mandatory, and he taught off on the textbook. I don't recommend taking MAS 201 with Professor Bazan Vega and I would suggest taking it with another professor.
goated if you re watch the lectures and understand everything he's saying. Lets you use cheat sheet and lets you out of class early. Also, no homework. Great guy!
This guy is just amazing. Highly recommend taking this course!
Prof Bazan-Vega is funny. He kind of just does what he wants. The material is pretty black and white, and frankly he doesn't care too much if you don't get it. Figure it out. He is a cute old man. Accent is thick.
He is terrible and doesn't care if his students succeed. The exam averages were LOW, with some people getting 20s or lower and he does nothing about it. He is so rude too when you meet with him during office hours. I had to go to the chair already. Screw him.
Worst teacher at UM, seriously does not care about students or material. Averages are horrible, and he could not be less interested in the students or material.
He goes so fast in the classes and you just can't understand him so its hard to learn. No extra credit opportunities, no retakes, straight by the schedule. If you have a serious reason for why you missed a test he does not care. Do not take him
Bazan-Vega has a lot of negative reviews and I can understand why but he isn't as awful as the reviews make him out to be. He can be difficult to understand and moves fast but none of the concepts are too difficult. All quizzes are identical to the homework and you get a cheat sheet for every quiz and test.
It's very difficult to do well in a class when your professor speaks broken English. But that seems to be the running theme for Math professors here. He used to be online and isn't anymore. 7 quizzes drop the lowest two. Only showed up for attendance there is no way you'll understand a word this guy says. be ready to teach everything to yourself :(
Professor B-Z is the best teacher ever eh, he gives a whole page cheat sheet for every quiz and exam okay? Luis covers veryyyy important concepts eh.
Attendance is not mandatory, all of his lectures are recorded and posted. Grade consists 7 or 8 quizzes, and he only takes 4 of them (drops 3 or 4), and the final exam. If you take good notes and do the practice problems, you can do well in this class.
he is great and gives 7 quizzes but only counts the top 4 quizzes. the other grade counted is our final exam. overall, he is great and tries his best to teach. he is super understanding and cares tremendously.
If I could give a 10, I would. You fail, you honestly didn't try. He is the best math professor at UM. 7 quizzes and drops 3 of your lowest. Open book/ cheat sheets for his quizzes and exams as well. Yes, he goes fast BUT makes sure everyone understands the material and has recordings from class. Attendance is not required but it is suggested.
Not the most engaging teacher, but good! He posted videos of every class lecture, so I didn't pay attention in class and watched the videos to go at my own pace. I taught myself and the concepts aren't difficult so it was fine. 7 quizzes and he drops 2 lowest grades. 2 exams + a final. You get a cheat sheet for all.
Bazan teaches the material well, but quickly, hardly stopping for questions. He is difficult to reach outside of class. That being said, the class is very easy and attendance is not mandatory, so if you know what you're doing, the class is as easy as it gets.
If you are good at calculus, this class is very easy. Attendance isn't mandatory and he posts all of his lectures/notes online. 60% of grade is tests (he assigns 7 and drops the 3 lowest; they are easy and you can use a cheat sheet) and 40% is the final. He is not good at teaching and barely speaks English, so don't take if you aren't good at math.
Professor Bazan-Vega is great! He usually lets class out early, but that does mean the lectures can be a bit rushed. If you struggle to quickly pick up math, his lectures may not be your style. There are a lot of quizzes and exams, but there are no trick questions. He is a great professor who will listen to any questions and concerns students have!
Awful teacher! Accent so thick you can't understand him. Tests have incorrect grammar which causes confusion for students. Test questions are made to trick you. Class is just a lecture where he goes over the same notes, which he does post meaning you don't actually need to go. Takes attendance 5 random times which counts for 5% of total grade.
Avoid. Not a good professor at any means. Doesn't speak clear English. Incorrect grammar with his spelling and pronunciation which can create confusion especially with using variables in math. Not generous at all with grading and every quiz feels like a curveball completely different from majority of the general material. Very disappointing
So easy to learn by yourself, jsut watch the lessons.
This is a wonderful man. He wants everyone to get 100, providing everything needed to study, and answering any questions regrading the quiz or exam after. You're literally allowed a cheat sheet front and back, and the ti-nspire. That calculator does everything. Learn to use it.
Is a good teacher if you learn well by yourself. His quizzes are straightforward if you go over the homework questions. There is 7 quizzes with 2 drops and 3 exams including but the final can replace one. No partial credit on quizzes either get the right answer or no credit. However they are not hard tests. Attendance is random.
He is very good. He provides video recordings of every lesson, so it was easy to learn at home. His quizzes were short, they look exactly like the class and optional HW questions. You're allowed a formula sheet for quizzes and he only keeps the best 4 out of 7 grades. Just have a good cheat sheet and use a good calculator for algebra.
Loved his class! Grade is based on your best 4 of 7 quizzes and the final. Quizzes and final use class/homework material with different numbers. Formula sheet allowed for both. He goes fast in class, but that gives you time to ask questions, and he is super willing to help. Also, introduce yourself.
Not that hard at all. Allows one page of notes for the quizzes and tests, so just put formulas on them and it'll be fine. Easy to teach yourself the subject since all the answers to the in-class material are available online for study. Attendance is taken at random points throughout the semester with two absences being dropped.
Do not take him. I'm not exaggerating when I say his accent is so thick you won't understand anything he says. I never went to class cuz there was no point. I had to teach myself everything. Have quizzes a lot, but not too hard, and drops the lowest 3, I think. Doesn't allow retakes on anything; if you miss a test, your final will weigh double.
I have nothing against this professor, he's a very nice guy. However, his teaching method is terrible, lectures are super difficult to understand so you have to teach yourself everything.
Extremely thick accent. I wouldn't even bother trying to learn from him because you will spend most the time trying to understand what he just said. Does let students use a 2 sided reference sheet for every test so I recommend just copy and pasting all the homework questions onto the ref sheet and printing it for the test. No partial credit too.
