Mr. Contreras is such a cool teacher. He expects a lot from the essays. I guantee you that you will come out of his class confident. I got A's in English 1a and English 3. Work hard and you will pass, no doubt. He will help you pass the class.

Luis was great! He was very into his class, was very clear about the expected assignments and I feel he really prepared me for upper division critical thinking. I highly recommend him, especially if transferring to a university.

this teacher might have the biggest heart at city college. he was very helpful. you write alot of papers but he gives you plenty of time to write them. he also lets you redo them if you get a bad grade on them. thank you mr contreras for taking a chance with me. i told you, you would not regret it.

He is one of the best teachers I have had in awhile. He is super nice and cares alot of his students. Not many teachers go out of their way for their students, but he does. I appreciated his help this semester. If you need help or want someone to talk to, he is always there for you. If you can get into his class and take him, TAKE HIM.

He's a great teacher and he's also funny. he shows compassion for his students and you can tell he loves his job because you'll even forget your in class. if you do work he always recognizes that, he makes you feel confident about interpreting stories just read.

He is a great teacher. I'ts a lot of essays, but he compromises with his students. Just do the essays, and if you mess up, he'll let you re-do it for a better grade. Take his class. It'll be fun.

OMG! I LOVE Luis! He's the first teacher that's really supported my writing and helped me to improve at the same time. He's so funny and it's fun to go to class. He likes to keep his essay topics open so you can be more creative and not restricted which I liked. I've never had an A in English before him. I look forward to his 1B class next semester

Contreras is such an awesome teacher! He's one of a kind really...take him for your Eng 1 and Eng 3! If you need a little reality check he WILL do it for you! Definitely one of my favorite teachers. Take him for your english classes, he is not that difficult and is easy to work with. Flexible about papers and interesting. Class was always fun, he cares a lot about the students. Take him! Grade mainly consists of papers, but they are not difficult, mostly just arguing different points.

i took mr contreras intro to lit class. He is pretty easy, he makes this class interesting. You need to buy the book in order to do good on the tests, which consist of responses to the stories. He assigned journals and papers. Really easy class if you read the things you need to read. So far my fave english teacher at city.Take mr contreras!

Great instructor! Essays are usually 3-5 pages and relative to class material. Your overall grade is based on essays. Go to office hours if needed. He will guide you towards a well written essay. Overall, a well-adapted instructor.

Contreras truly wants all of his students to succeed. He understands a college students life and is very flexible. He is very big on grammar, that was always my trouble with the essays, but he is willing to help you in any way. GREAT TEACHER! Be prepared to learn, and be involved in the glass...you'll enjoy yourself.

Very superficial understanding of literature, don't expect any epiphanies. If you make a comment about anything beyond common knowledge (all he knows evidently) he'll just say "you know you're probably right". Too bad Good didn't teach ENG 48A this semester, I would have loved to have gotten something out of this class beyond an A.

We need more teachers like Mr. Contreras in our junior high and high school. I think we would see a drastic increase in attendance. Im glad he is helping to educate future teachers. Perhaps they will see his method as a personal goal.

Genuine, friendly, easy to talk to and will work with his students. He is what teachers are supposed to be like. He encourages you to share your opinion on literary work, which he treats (as they are) like art which is left to individual interpretation. I've taken him for three difference classes, he's just amazing!

Honestly the greatest professor I've had so far. Especially for the English department, I HIGHLY recommend him. He's hilarious, really teaches you how to write effectively, you learn a lot about analyzing and finding common errors we all make as writers, and it's an easy class. He doesn't give out many assignments, just show up and enjoy!

He is a very kind and understanding teacher. There are a couple papers but he is a pretty easy grader and tells you exactly what he wants. Never any tests and you can miss class and still do well. Super chill and funny, I'd take his class over and over again.

Loved this class!!!! So easy! He is really chill and you learn stuff without even trying. Loves talking about his family which is always funny jokes. No tests only take home quizzes he gives a month in advance to do it. Easy grading( loved it!

Indeed, he is a great teacher. Reading materials that are done in class is easily applicable to upcoming essays. Expect essays after essay for his class, I mean it is an english class. Sometimes class can be boring too base on discussion and how "alive" your peers are. Textbooks that are required to take this class will be used .

Not a difficult professor. Very understanding and caring. Attendance is very important, but the material isn't super difficult. You don't need the textbook if your bring your phone or laptop to class you can just look up the reading material in class.

He was a very caring and thoughtful professor, I took his English 1B class and will be taking his English 48 class because I liked his teaching method and his personality so much. He is considerate of anything going on in your personal life, and will work with you to help you succeed.

Great professor. Took him for 44B as well. Essentially graded on 4 papers and attendance. Each missed class subtracts a few points from your attendance grade, so missing a few isn't a big deal. Very chill class, good discussions on occasion. Just send him a text when you miss! Good selections from book for assigned readings.

This class is great for the discussions and the material students are exposed to. There are only five papers all semester, and students have three weeks to work on each of them. The only way someone can fail this class is if they completely and utterly dont care.

Just amazing professor i had for Eng1A. First Volunteers for participation then very few chances that you will be get called on answering any questions. He is fun guy; make you laugh a lot. If you are taking this class for credit, take him you will get an A.
