this teacher sucks wouldn't recommend him
This is a very hard class. There is a lot of work involved, but Dr.Martinez brings a clinical aspect to the class. That none of the other instructors can bring. He is funny. The most important value about him instructing this class is that he will make time for you, just pestor him. The more you try he will be forgiving in the end (for the positive).
Dr Martinez teaches a really tough class. But hes a good teacher, very helpful. Might seem like kinda mean at first but really he is very nice and funny, and he goes out of his way to make sure everyone in the class understands and he knows a lot, the thing is you gotta go to him for help. Overall great teacher and great class.
This class is extremely hard with Dr. Martinez. He's a nice and intelligent person; however; he's impossible to please. This was the first class I had to drop because I failed the first homework, test, and quiz. You need to be able to put 100% of your time into this class, so I'd recomend taking this class by itself. Good luck!
Dr Martinez is a very good instructor. i took him last semester and i know that if i would have put a bit more effort i would have gotten an A. he is always willing to help you, all you have to do is ask. i wasnt to thrilled to take this condensed course but in the end im glad i did because i learned alot and enjoyed Dr Martinez teaching this class
Difficult class, but really good instructor! Very helpful, funny, passionate about the subject and patient. If you have to take this class, make sure Dr. Martinez is your professor! :)
Hard Class, Good teacher, be ready to learn on your own most of the time!
Very hard course. You need to learn so much in a short amount of time. However, he is always willing to help!! Great teacher!
Class is hard but you should expect that coming into a anatomy and physiology course. But Mr.Martinez is a wonderful teacher. He is always willing to help, and he has a good sense of humor. One of the best teachers I've had at ECC.
Has a bad accent. Talks like Ozzie Guian of the White Sox. Will explain questions for 3 minutes or less. Too busy to help students in office. Be prepared to learn anatomy on your own!!
Please this is my request not to take him. He made hard class more harder.
Lab exams are really hard and lecture exams as well. You have to study on your own.
If you feel like wasting 5 months of your life take him. He is very hard and doesn't care if you learn the material or not. Too much material all at once by the end f the semester your ready to pull your hair out!
He's the best professor ive ever had. Dont take his class if youre lazy or not interested in the topic. He expects you to work hard, and it will pay off in the end. great sense of humor and will always answer your questions.
Mr. Martinez really knows his stuff, he barely gives out any homework, but STUDYING is a MUST because exams are a handful of information testing you need to know, but overall great teacher for a challenge :]
Knows his stuff. Seems gruff at first but warms up when you get to know him. Has very high expectations of his students. You'll learn a lot from him. You absolutely have to keep up in your reading/studying for this class. Too much info to wait until a couple of days before the tests. His tests are tough!
If you have any interest in becoming an intelligent health professional you really should take Dr. Martinez. He knows A&P in and out and is willing to pass his knowledge on to you if you are willing to work.
He knows how to make hard suject harder. NOT recommended at all.
i find this teacher to be very good at this subject, he really wants his students to succeed! its his life and he is passionate about teaching it! unfortunately the course itself is rigorous and if you don't keep up you will be overwhelmed, as he says, "its the nature of the beast", but he is very helpful make this your only course though.
Knowledgeable yes but a terrible teacher. He is unorganized, inconsistant with expectations, changes syllabus, gets defensive when you ask questions, and doesn't respond to emails...ever.Each exam is different you never know what you're going to walk into.He asks what he can do to help then can't take the criticism.I got an A so take this as a warning!
Dr. Martinez is a very hard teacher and expects alot from his students. You have to put in alot of time and effot if you expect to pass his class. We started out with 24 students and ended with 16 and 4 of them did not pass. He did try to help us in the end with extra credit but even that did not help some people.
I love Dr. Martinez! He is extremely helpful. Remember this is not your normal BIO class this is heavy material so be prepared to study hard and put in time. If you need the Doc he is always avaliable. I recommened him and really wish he would start teaching evenings!!!
he is such a great teacher and know so much about a&p it's amazing. if you're looking to get an easy a or b in a class do not take him. hes going to make you work for your grade but honestly its the best way to learn. if you're looking for a great teacher who knows his stuff and you want to learn than i would say take Martinez!
Take him if you want a D+ or lower because his test are like taking a test as of your entering medical school...i wouldnt recommend
Great professor, he won't teach cute rhymes to memorize anatomy, but he will give some great real world medical examples of the area of the body that is being studied. He follows the book to a tee, so read it! Where else can you pay community college money to be taught by an MD?
This professor doesn't over complicate things, he gets to the points that you need to know for the exams. If you fill out his study guide and understand everything on it you'll get an A every time. If you don't understand something he is really approachable and loves to help his students out. He's honestly the best A&P teacher at ECC
Overall, Dr. Martinez is a good teacher. His lecture exams are more involved than the lab exams. My only complain is that he reads off his powepoints and expects you to print them out prior to class. So during lecture all you do is sit & listen. Also, on lab days, he does not explain the models. You have to follow your lab book by youself.
Know his stuff well. Tells u somethings that he might put on the exams while lecturing. Exams aren't that easy tho. U have to read your book and not just depend on notes or you'll fail the exams. He's always willing to help too.
Yes he is very unorganized and he has an accent that is somewhat understandable. I do not recommend taking his course. He shows up late, his power points are not clear.
Do not take him, please.
Do not take him if you want to fail the class. He is not organized at all. Does not give clear information that you will need to know for the exams and is not helpful at all.
He is a very nice man but not a great professor. He was always at least 15 minutes late for class. He would disappear during lab time. His lectures drag and exams were unpredictable.
He is a really good Professor- he makes lectures fun now- tests and lab exams are very easy because every anatomy and physiology class at ecc is going through the web program connect- if you read and study the chapters in the book you have an easy A. Professor M. is a really nice man and I'll be taking A and P 246 with him to
Awesome teacher. Loves his subject and his students. Very calm person can talk to him about anything, he is there for you. The subject is very hard, so it is a lot of reading and memorization. He covers all the material from the book so the reading is a must. The tests are challenging not because Dr. Martinez but because the material is hard.
Love his class. I look forward to anatomy class each time. The material is hard so I have to study a lot. He encourages his students and he is there for you.
Awesome teacher. Will work with ya
Take Dr. Martinez, his students love him. I took his class because it was the only available time that would work for me, and I'm glad I did. The class is super fun, thou the material is not easy.
I want to rate Dr. Martinez because I was scared to take his class. The material is hard, and it is a lot of study, but Dr. Martinez make it so much fun. We laugh a lot in our class and he always stops to answer all of our silly questions. He knows a lot about medicine outside the school material. He is very encouraging.
Awesome teacher. I would recomand him. If YOU study, the tests should not be a problem. Only 3 Take home quizes.
His the best.
Dr, Martinez is awesome. The class is very hard and it is a lot of memorization, so definitely a lot to study. Dr made it very interesting with his medical experience. If you keep up with on-line connect and do the study you will be fine. Doctor definitely cares about his students. I'm taking him for 246
Enjoyable learning experience. Good voice. Great!
You really need to read the textbook for passing the class. He tests are critical thinking , and he gives many chances for extra credits.
He has an accent but he is understandable, the knowledge he has and experiences that he shares are interesting and can become a eye opener if you never knew about the topic at hand. Hands down i wish i could take him again, however my next semester schedule does not allow me to do so. I would suggest you take him because indeed he knows his stuff
Not helpful at all
If the entire class doesnt do good on an exam, he counts it as extra credit. He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities which is very helpful!
People stay in his class because of EXTRA CREDIT. If you want to actually learn and retain information, do NOT take him. If you want to pass, then he's your guy. He does not respond to emails, and post assignments late then expects you get them done at the same time. Very stressful to be in his class, but them bumps your grade with a bunch of EC
Dr. Martinez was an amazing teacher! I had him for BIO 245 and loved him so much so I took BIO 246 with him too. The content is hard but he makes it interesting and fun. He has a thick accent but you will get used to it. I definitely recommend taking this class with him. He is very knowledgeable and answers questions with lots of information.
Dr. Martinez doesn't give extra credit anymore.
He's not a good teacher, I still got an A in his class but it was so stressful. He 's late and inputs grades wrong. He's unhelpful and doesn't seem to care about his job. He might of been a good doctor but he's not a good teacher. The only good thing about taking his class is he offers a ton of extra credit.
Everything he does is online through MH connect-quzzes,HW,exams. He gives out study guides, in my opinion, they aren't worth the time. There is just so much information but so little information from it on the exam. Just have to read and study. Lab practicals are always the easiest, the lecture exams are tough because requires critical thinking.
Once I got use to his accent, he was great! He is very passionate about biology and was super energetic. He was also flexible, he changed homework dates for us and gave us more time to take quizzes. I'm not sure how many teachers would do that.
A lot of pre lecture/post lecture quizzes which are practically participation points because you don't finish the assignment without getting a 100. He is really passionate about biology and is a very intelligent man. Attend class, pay attention, and do your assignments- really isn't that bad.
I took his 245 hybrid course and I'll be taking his 246 hybrid course as well. At times he can be a bit of a hot mess, but in the end he genuinely does care about what he does and the students in his course. He's difficult to understand at times, but if you can get past that you will do well and learn a lot in his class. I would recommend.
Martinez remains one of my faves. He is funny and so adorable in the way he talks. He will give you clarifications on the things you need. It was a hybrid class. hes clear about his class and what he expects.
Dr. Martinez is great, he is an extremely intelligent man and a great professor. He really knows how to explain things different ways for everyone to understand. I took him for BIO 245 and 246. His lectures are so interesting and he balances the class well between tests and other things, so you don't have to be a great test taker to pass.
I LOVED Martinez. Anatomy is a hard class as it is, so the work load should be expected. He lives to see his students succeed and is willing to do anything in order to do so. He is very intelligent and He offers help outside of class. You have to put the work in, there is a lot of homework assignments but it all helps you learn the material.
Martinez is one of the best professors at ECC. He is very intelligent and makes lectures interesting. There is a lot of homework but it is all online and spread out appropriately and easy to do. The lab exams and lecture exams are fairly easy if you know the material. The lowest grade I received on a test was an 87% without trying real hard.
Dr. Martinez is my by far my favorite teacher at ECC. For teaching a biology course, he truly makes it easy to learn and keeps his students engaged throughout the course. If you keep up with the online homework and pay attention to lectures there's no way you can't pass. Highly recommend him to anyone taking anatomy/physiology.
Everyone saying that Martinez is the best teacher must have not taken another bio class at ECC. His class consists of him reading off of power points for 2+ hours. Also assigns lots of homework, 1-3 assignments due before the next class, ranging from 30 to 100+ questions per assignment. I would recommend looking into other teachers before him.
Dr. Martinez is clear on expectations for the course. He is very smart and helpful, you just have to speak up when you have questions. He offers extra credit in his hybrid class for attending biology tutoring.
EC opportunities are not fair to those of us with full schedules outside of this class. He is SO unorganized, hard to reach or get a response from outside of class, and his lectures do not align with the pps, book, and exams. Mess of a class. He took what I considered to be a bad teacher to a whole new level. I would NEVER again take his class.
Took Dr. Martinez for BIO246 and I had a wonderful experience as he's very knowledgeable. His lectures based on powerpoints which makes it easier, as you can just print them out and follow along during lecture. Labs are extremely easy but you do them on your own with your group. He references topics to real life medical situations, very helpful.
I loved Dr. Martinez. He has great lectures and you really learn a lot. There is a lot of reading to do, but it's not all the time. There isn't homework every week, only when you approach a new chapter. He gives A LOT of opportunities for extra credit every chapter. His tests are REALLY reflective of his quizzes (which are all online).
dr. m was very nice, he took time to explain things in his lectures, didn't move through it too fast. gave online assignments that i hated but admittedly did help in learning the material. tests and lab practicals were straight forward
Also: Inspirational, Accessible outside class, clear grading criteria, hilarious, amazing lectures, caring, extra credit, group project, and lecture heavy. He is great, you have to work for it in his class but he makes it easy for a student and really helps them. Do the 5 hours of lab time it helps!!!
Amazing! Took both 245, 246 and loved them both! Hes well respected teacher. He is really there to help you in/out of class. His lectures are so detailed and helps you understand! Gives you everything you need to know for tests! He is tight on due date, so make sure you really do the hw and quizzes on time. Overall an great teacher, amazing class!
There are 2 defining factors behind a great Educator; their teaching Philosophy and their Relatability. Dr. Martinez may not be the definition of the most structured Educator, but his ability to relate to his students is his defining feat. He can give insight into the medical field unlike any other and he has compassion for his students success.
Martinez is the best professor you can have for anatomy. His lectures align perfectly with the tests. His standards are clear and simple. Homework is easy and quizzes help boost your grades. You just have to pay attention during his lectures and you will be fine. People who speak badly of Dr. Martinez just didn't put any effort.
This instructor was awesome! He is extremely knowledgable and cares about student success. Take him for anatomy! He lets class/lab out early if everything has been covered for the day.
Dr. Martinez is a great instructor. Relates well with the students. Very personable. I took his class during the Covid 19 situation and our class was changed to online. He made the transition go smoothly. Fair with grading. There is a lot of content to cover and memorize but he helps in any way he can.
Great professor! Labs were fun and the professor always answered questions. Lectures were kinda boring but easy to follow. Studying for exams is a MUST.
Dr. Martinez is one of the best teachers I have EVER had! I am not just saying that. He really knows his stuff and helps you learn any way he can. There is a lot to learn in anatomy and a lot of studying, but if you pay attention and do the work, you will go far! He does so much for his students so they can learn. His stories are great as well!
Professor Martinez made this class very hard to keep up with. I had to teach myself everything and when we would meet on zoom once a week he played prerecorded lectures. He was very lazy when it came to "teaching" this class. Furthermore, he was very rude with email replies to questions or concerns I had. Overall, I do not recommend this professor.
Dr. Martinez was by far my hardest professor this semester. I had to teach myself everything because his lectures were pre-recorded and wouldn't let us ask questions. He also was really rude when answering emails and he would take his time to get back to you. He was really unorganized and confusing. I really don't recommend him.
Dr. Martinez was by far my hardest professor this semester. All his lectures were pre-recorded and wouldn't let us ask questions so we had to learn everything ourselves. He was really rude in emails and would take his time to answer. He also was SO unorganized and confusing. I would not recommend him
Professor Martinez is very hard to get a hold of. I was always very specific and detailed in my emails and its as if he still didn't understand what I was trying to explain. He also doesn't let you know what will be on lecture exams. I would not recommend this professor. I'm retaking with another professor this semester.
His a nice teacher just unorganized. The lab exams were just a little difficult for me and sometimes the youtube videos would be more confusing. That is what it killed my grade a little.
*DONT TAKE IF ONLINE* doesn't care if you're sick or emergency -he didn't know the important dates to exams and quizzes and would ask class -took phone calls during zoom class (which was once a week for only 1.5hrs) -no review during exam instead said "I wont keep you use this time to study" -zoom calls were cut short all the time no reply to email
I emailed him multiple times during the semester asking for help, none of which were responded to. He canceled our Zoom, cut them short, answer phone calls in class, upload quizzes & exams very late. I feel disrespected & frustrated as a student, as if my education and grade do not matter to him. I am only getting an A because I have taught myself.
High cost for this class when it seemed like I taught myself everything. The powerpoints were all extremely long for each chapter, prerecorded lectures seemed irrelevant. Had to reach out multiple times to finally get a response about previous emails I sent. Tests autograde & mark you wrong even when the answer is right, so double check everything.
he simply does not care for his students, takes FOREVER to respond to emails. TEST AND EXAMS ARE AUTOMATICALLY GRADED. MEANING IF YOU GOT A QUESTION CORRECT BUT SPELLED IT WRONG YOU LOSE POINTS BECAUSE IT IS AUTOMATIC BE CAREFUL, PLEASE STAY AWAY HELP YOURSELF THIS CLASS WAS NOT WORTH TAKING BECAUSE OF HIM. HE DOES NOT ALLOW EXTENDED DUE DATES
Great class! Learned a ton from Dr Martinez. A&P is a lot of work and his class is very well structured to learn. Online assignments thru textbook which asks questions. If you do the work (which is totally reasonable) you will get an A. Study guides, he tells you what you must know and focus on. AWESOME teacher. TAKE HIM
He just reads off the slides made for class. He only teaches about half of the material on the tests. On one test, the class average was a 67% and he didn't address us about it. He would frequently miss class and then test us on things he didn't teach us.
Dr. Martinez is one of the best lecturers I've had at ECC. He has a great depth of knowledge in the subject and often integrates is previous cases as a physician into his lectures to make the material easier to grasp. He gave lots of extra credit and gave us study guides that were good preparations for the lecture and lab exam.
Everyone is hating on professor Martinez because his lectures are long&he's not accessible outside of class but he also provides study guides that if you know you will get an A on lecture exams. I never paid attention or wrote notes during his lectures/his lecture powerpoints and got an A just from studying the study guides. He's a good professor!
I took Dr. Martinez for Bio245 and made sure to take him again for Bio246. This course does require attendance and a fair amount of studying outside of class but if you review the materials provided and study an A is definitely possible.
He covers 3 chapters each test and you'll have two every 3 weeks with virtual labs. If he messes up a test DONT close it to email him. Finish it or he will thank you for letting him know and hand you an F in return. His lectures are long because I don't think he made them. He reads them word for word like a textbook and never simplifies anything.
he is the best! lots of lectures but they help loads with the coarse work. participation in labs and work outside of class is a must. lots of content and memorization but Dr Martinez is absolutely amazing and willing to help you if you are stuck or have questions.
He is a good professor when it comes up with questions. He does lecture and lab exams on the same day! When it came for lab days, he let us use the models and did not show us a demonstration beforehand. You have to teach yourself the material by yourself and it can be very difficult mostly for the muscle unit!
The professor was very good, he was clear and direct with what will be on the exams. He gives practice tests beforehand, making me more prepared to the real one. Gives a good amount of time to prepare for the labs, or the exams. If you have any questions about anything, he is very easily accessible. I fully recommend taking this teacher.
This professor and class are both amazing! Best teacher I've ever had! Dr. Martinez is a former surgeon, and his skill and experience is an invaluable asset! If you're serious about this class and want to enter the medical or science fields you will enjoy this teacher and class, and as long as you put in the work there is no reason to not get an A.
Dr.M is a one of a kind professor. Took him for A&P 1 and 2 and I can tell anyone looking to take these classes, he is amazing! You must show up, study, put in the work..if you do that, it will pay off. Dr.M is truly the kind of professor you learn so much more than just lecture/lab..he shares his experience as a surgeon and overall awesome person.
He is great and is always willing to help. He says we as students pay his salary therefore he makes himself available to us. The class can be difficult with alot of memorizing but he gives you plenty open lab time before exams. I didnt make it to any open labs but the amount of time we spent studying models in class was enough for me
He's great and cares, quite a bit. Thank you Luis.
Dr. Luis Martinez is very caring and very knowledgeable about Anatomy. He really cares about his students and making sure they succeed. He is a great person to talk to if you are confused. Highly recommend him!!
Martinez isn't for everybody, but if you like a serious, no-nonsense prof, then he's a good pick. Come to class ready to learn and expecting a challenge. His lectures are a bit dry, but incredibly informative. He puts all his study guides and practice tests on D2L, and he's always available for office hours. If you fail, that's on you.
He gives examples from his career as a surgeon and apply it to lectures. He replies to questions, clear communication, and make things easy for you. He is compassionate and gives proper time to study as a class for an exam. The slides are info heavy, but during his lectures, he thoroughly explains each point and doesn't go too fast.
Dr. Martinez is an incredibly caring professor. His ability to simplify complex concepts makes every class engaging and insightful. He fosters a welcoming environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions and share ideas. While his class is lecture-heavy, the material is well-presented and thought-provoking. I highly recommend it!
I took his class during Spring 2025! While it was a hard class, Dr. Martinez made it easy to learn, and he is very good at what he does. The class is very lecture-heavy, but it's mostly because BIO-246 is about physiology rather than memorizing body parts. He wants everyone to pass his class and gives many opportunities to gain easy points.
He has a caring personality. lectures are heavy and time consuming. but the exams are based on his lectures . so if you understand his lectures well, you can score easily on his exam. Also he adds some bonus questions on his exam, which allow us to gain some extra/ make up points. He considerate and understanding person
Highly recommend
Had him in person A&P I, lecture heavy (lots to cover in the body) but explains in a way that integrates the ch. altogether. Had him online A&P II. Lots of slides, but what to study in the unit is clearly portrayed. Materials are very organized. Sticks with the syllabus. Has good communication. No trick questions in the test. Was a physician.
Dr. Martinez wants to see you succeed but he won't hold your hand. If you have questions he will answer them but you need to ask. These are the classes that will be the fundamental to your health career, they are content heavy and not meant to be easy. That said if you put the work in daily you can succeed. Never Quit
Dr. Martinez is a kind and serious professor. I took a hybrid with him and he always provided all the resources on d2l: videos, lectures, and lab materials. This course isn't easy but if you study hard, you can get an A. If you fail, that's on you. Also, if you have any questions he will answer you. highly recommend him.
