Cool accent, especially when he says "integral". He'll talk a lot about the Greeks stuff too. His favorite integration technique is "by parts".
Very Good Teacher!!! i recommend him. has a slight accent, but understandable. explains topics very well to make sure you understand. i had a 52% going into the final and he passed me with a C because i did good on the final! VERY FAIR TEACHER!!!!
Not really getting used to his accent, but I know he's kind to answer questions. Tests for stats were pretty easy 'coz they're quite straight ahead, no tricks. No hw assigned. Overall, he's a good teacher if you understand his accent.
Teacher is very interested in speed, as in how fast you can do problems and be accurate. Must work VERY VERY hard for him, and his partial credit sucks. He has an accent that is a little hard, but you get used to it. Classroom environment very negative
I REALLY, REALLY, enjoyed this class! Professor Mendez-Nunez is one of the very few teachers that will go that EXTRA mile just to make sure that U learned SOMETHING! He is clear, creative, EXTREMELY fair and a WONDERFUL TEACHER!
he's overall a nice guy, but if u havent taken the class before, it can be really hard.
He will deduct big points off your test for the smallest of errors. The semester began with over fifty students, but towards the end the class had been narrowed down to a mere sixteen.
He's unclear, doesnt work out of the book enough, makes mistakes in class on a regular basis, and he doesn't know all of his own material
this guy got on my last nerves he always thinks he's right, and smarter then aristotle. what a columbian whacko. he tried ****ing my grade over at the end of the semester. don't get this guy you can barely understand him under his accent
Terrible teacher, he doesn't explain anything and does not no what i need help means. Very non-understanding. This teacher is the worst math teacher at sacramento city college, no joke.
alittle airheaded but very nice and smart
The hardest class ive ever taken..without a doubt..horrible teacher, doesnt explain well and goes way too fast...and the tests? dont get me started on the tests..its so hard to pass..i dont recommend this class to anyone...seriously
Luis Mendez-Nunez needs to get some more english background..swear hard to understand, very un clear and talks a lot about his major...
Good teacher. Can be hard to understand at first, but you get used to it. Always willing to help, though class will likely be difficult. Gives a thorough understanding with no BS. Take him only if you're willing to work, but don't expect an easy A. If you're hard-working, you will learn a lot.
He was a good teacher.A little difficult to understand, but he is willing to help.If you ask then you can go to office hours and work on what you need. There are lots of quizzes and they are kind of tricky so you have to do good.Online hw, but frustrating to do sometimes. He just wants to make sure that if you learn anything it is to get your degree.
You "most probably" will like him and the class
He is a great math professor. Gives extra percentage to your grade if your attend a certain amount of beacon sessions with a math tutor. Grades easy and fairly!
Very difficult to understand his explaination. It's almost pointless to go to his lecture, you'll spend majority of the time reading the book on your own if you want to pass the class. This guy's exams are also extremely hard compare to other teachers!! Avoid this guy if you can!!!
I did not enjoy his class one bit. It was bad enough I couldn't understand it but he spent a lot of time lecturing us about life. He would say a bunch of bull that had no relevance with math whatsoever. Probably 90 percent of my class failed his class. Trust me on this one, don't take him. But totally up to you.
Avoid this instructor at all costs. One of the worst professors I've ever encountered. He interprets the bored looks on our faces as us knowing the material already and that his lectures are just "review." Don't even go to class. Just read the book and get outside help. His accent and "messy caluculations" do not help my understanding either.

Attend ALL lectures & do ALL of the homework, as he will include what seem to be inconsequential problems on each exam that aren't in the homework or text (but he will give you a heads up b4 test). He is very helpful though, and is willing to do a lot of problems in class, which is important for this course. Recommended for the eager-to-learn.

STRONG accent. Nice guy. LOTS of homework and he likes to give quizes, often. The quizes are a breeze though. Not at all like the tests that they supposedly prepare u for. The tests...I HATED the tests. But if u do all ur homework correctly than u should d
teaches high level math with a strong accent, though he reiterates most of his explanations until nearly everyone understands it. a great professor if you can get past trying to understand what he is talking about
This Man is crazy! He makes so many mistakes that it is nuts! If you ask a question or don't get something he'll say "go back to pre-algebra." If you've already taken Algebra 2 in High school then the class is easy, but if you haven't, it's hella hard. Overall DON"T TAKE HIM!
The worst math teacher that I have ever had. He is very arrogant and deos not explain things very well at all. If you decide to stay in his class I wish you the best of luck!!
He was very hard to understand sometimes and his test reviews SUCK. He never gave the same info on the test that he reviewed and always made mistakes. If he wasn't interested in the area of math he sucked at teaching it and if he liked it then he was good (sometimes). Chose another teacher.

If you wana waste an hour everyday for a whole semester, take this class. The instructor is a nice guy, but he lacks the skills for teaching (he has no idea how to teach!). I was one of the 8/30 that stuck around until the very end. I think all but 1 or 2 failed. If you want an instructor who's organized, clear and concise, this guy isn't for you.
His english is not very good.Teaching skills aren't very good.Nice guy though and is willing to help you out if you need help. The guy definately knows his stuff, hell he's got a doctorate...but transfering his knowlege into my head was a diferent story.Easy homework.Drops (1) lowest test and (2)lowest quizes.Fairly easy class but learned very little
From the moment I saw this guy, I fell in love. He came in rumpled with chalk all over his shirt. He is in his own world. With his heavy accent and strange behavior he is extermely hard to follow. As much as I wanted to thrive in his class, i was forced to look elsewhere for algebra instruction. too bad.
I cannot understande what he talks. He makes the class Very difficult. I got a D in his class even though i attended it regularly. Took it with another prof next semester and got A.
Wasn't helpful, hard to understand, im usually a good student but still messed up, tests and quizzes are hard; to sum things up...dont take this teacher
At first he is hard to understand. You will, however get the hang of it. He is the person who singlehandedly taught me to think about math. I got a B because he is hard. But I dont regret it at all
Although he was hard to understand, he actually helped me to be more motivated, and got me to do more homework. Just keep up with your home work and talk to him, let him know that you "do your HOMEWORK" and you will be fine.
The BEST, yes the Best math teacher I've ever had.He was very patient with us math phobes. His accent is thick, but unless you're a backwoods hick it's not a problem at all. First time math made sense. Loved his stories and use of metaphor to aid in understanding material. Highly recommend for lower division math. I love Nunez-Mendez!
This teacher is impossible to understand. Also he is extremely mean, he yelled at me when I asked a question relating to the subject. He dose not do a lot of review for test, and when he dose you can’t understand half the stuff he says anyway. (DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER)
AT THE BEGINNING, I THOUGHT HE WAS HARD BECAUSE I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT HE WAS SAYING, BUT ONCE I GOT USED TO IT....ALL THE THINGS HE TAUGHT MADE SENSE. LIKE THE OTHER PERSON SAID, IT WAS THE FIRST TIME I REALLY UNDERSTOOD MATH. I WOULD TAKE HIM AGAIN. IF YOU PAY ATTENTION AND DO YOUR WORK, YOU WILL PASS HIS CLASS.
I thought he was a great teacher...but you had to get through the first couple of weeks before he stopped trying to scare off students...and he had a really thick accent that you had to get used to.
I got a D in his class last semester, I am taking the same class this semester and am getting an A from a different proffessor. Hes confusing and unhelpful. He didnt give us homework and his tests were extremely hard.
He does have an acccent but that was the least of my worries. He bounces all over the book, so there is NO way to prepare for lec. Then, he treats new material like it is review and takes an entire week for material we learned in Math100. No guidance on homework (doesn't assign, so be prepared to mind read). Do yourself a favor an don't enroll.
He's not a good teacher. i have him currently for math34. He has a thick accent, so its hard to understand him. He doesnt explain things well and he makes alot of mistakes. i pretty much work by myself through the textbook. He sucks.
he is a little confusing, but he is not hard at grading. Besides, if you go talk to him after class, he'll be happy to explain to you again. His tests is sometimes hard, sometimes easy :(.If u can do homework, u'll be fine :).Overall, he is not that horrible or unable to teach. He just doesn't want to give an "A" for students who don't deserve it
He is a good teacher, but not very clear during lecture. Sometimes he did not follow the book when he was teaching. However, if you did all the homework and read the examples on the book, you would be fine on the quiz and test.
This teacher is very interested in teaching you math related to the real world. yeah he has an accent, but if you pay attention then there wont be a problem...he is extremely helpful if the students want to raise thier hand and ask, if you dont ask he will move on.....im taking this teacher again for algebra 2
I couldn't follow lectures, but this was because it was a morning class and I was tired. Tests, quizes were easy. He makes questions like the first 2/3's of the each section, leaving out the challenge problems at the ends, so if you get the hwk, you ace the tests. Problems are sometimes hwk or examples. No hwk assigned, but you will do it anyway.
Seriously, if you take this class..you're asking to fail! He passes like 10% of your class..you can't understand a word he says and he's rude when you ask for help! Don't take him!!
The worst... what else needs to be said... Do not take his classes without being prepared to learn entirely on your own... And follow the other posters comment about recording in audio so you will have evidence later...
his accent is really strong but he teaches good. no homework. only if you need more help then you can do your own problems from the book & ask for help the next day. sometimes it's hard to understand his techniquies for certain things 'cause he wants to teach it his way but you can always do it your way. never understood how to do word problems.
He is a joke and a rude one. We are not allowed to use scatological humor to describe him, so I wont. I wish I could, it would be appropriate. If you have a choice between any of his classes and an hour drive into the deep dark recesses of some obscure location. Take the drive. You will thank me.
Stay far away
stay away from this professor at all costs. i took statistics from him and could not learn a thing. he has a thick accent, which wouldnt be so bad, but he jumps all over the text book, makes many mistakes, contradicts what the book says, teaches his own way and is extremely confusing. he doesnt curve, and the majority of the class is barely passin
Avoid him for statistics especially since the book he uses is full of errors and you cant sell it back! Concepts are easy but having him for a teacher is just terrible. He follows the philosophy of life is not fair so live with it. His accent is okay but at times gets annoying. Makes a lot of mistakes and is not very friendly.
Avoid this professor. He is difficult to understand, not becuase of his annoying accent, but because of his inablity to teach well. He makes so many errors, its ridiculous, and he doesn't follow the book at all. Expect to learn everything yourself, and his tests are hard, partial credit almost nonexistent. Do yourself a favor and take someone else
stay away. doesnt know what he's doing, hard tests, thick accent, kind of rude.
He lectures on new stuff day before the exam and expects you to do the assignment and study the night before. He doesn't answer questions in class and refuses to allow student to use graphing calculators. Everything is done by scratch & dont be surprised if he tells the class they may use a cheat chart then the day of the exam doesn't allow it
He's an incompetent teacher. i took him, went to every lecture and did all the homeork and still ended up with a low grade. i took this class from another professor and got an A. Do youself a favor and stay away
Sure, he has an accent. I got used to it after just an hour or so, and I'm no expert. I did badly in the class until I started doing enough homework to know how to do it. I though he taught perfectly well. He's very, very funny. He makes hilarious faces when he thinks. Personally, I recommend him. He's hard, but math is supposed to be hard.
He does not like his students, tries to fail as many as possible, and will grade very hard if he thinks that one person didn't take the assignment seriously. He is a horrible teacher and the worst I have ever had.
Find another class if you have him! He doesn't explain things very well and makes no effort in helping his students.
even though people may think he is a bad teacher, he was actually helpful to me. he helps students when they ask for help and attendance is important. yes, he has a strong accent but throughout my time in his class, i actually learned more than I did in high school. he is also nice!
dont take this class for an A because you wont get it. he gets upset when no one ask questions. i took his class during the summer. the lectures werent bad but i scored well on all 4 exams and i still got a B. first test was easy and questions were direct from homework and lecture. only good thing is that he lets us use handouts with formulas.
omg i you can take someone else do it he is not a good teacher. his tests are really really hard and what he teaches in class is never on his tests. he doesn't really explain stuff very good. he's just not a good techer.
I think that it is up to you if you choose to learn. He is extremely helpful. If you have questions he will make sure that you understand it before he proceeds his lecture. You just can't be shy and not ask. If you have questions ask him. He isn't going to embarrass you. He just wants to help you succeed. He is an amazing teacher.
a great professor
I love this professor. He is very good at what he does. You can ask any question and he will answer you. I have an A in his class and like in any other class you want the grade then stop complaining and do the work.
DONT TAKE HIM FOR MATH 120! Tests are really hard, quizes arent with his lectures. grades hard. from the last updated grade sheet at least 15-20/35 students had a F or D. no calculator or notes.
This professor is very negative. Everyday he would say that a high percentage of the class will fail. He was not helpful and would not respond to emails at all. I dropped his class after two weeks. Its not the subject that is hard its the professors attitude.
This is the worst prof. that I have ever had!! He is very rude when you ask for help and when he does help you still have no clue what he's talking about! It has gotten so bad that I have no choice but to drop with a W and retake the course. Trust me do not take this teacher!! He will make your stats experience a disaster!
He's helpful when you ask for it, but he's very negative and discouraging. I think he toned down after the class gave him poor ratings on the survey, but still... if you learn anything and become motivated by a class as frustrating as his, chances are he insulted you into doing so. His "33% pass rate" statistics should inspire you to work harder.
You will have to work HARD in his class, at least 8 hours study/per week. Ask him questions, even in class. Don't come late or leave early. He was a research mathematician at UC DAVIS, but wanted to help lower income students, he is helpful to those that work. Don't imagine you will get an A, if you are a science/math major take him, you will learn
DONT TAKE HIM FOR MATH 120! Tests are really hard, quizes aren't with his lectures. grades hard and half of the class dropped the class(close to the end).. Trust me, it just a waste of time if you are taking his class.
Okay, I'm not slow. I catch on quickly and still nothing. He doesn't assign homework and even though I do it, it hasn't helped any. The tests are not paralled with the text. It seems like a complete waste of effort. Honestly, everyone on here giving this teacher a good rating is either really smart or taking a Math 34 class. Save yourself!
Brutal accent makes it very difficult to understand alot of what this dude is saying. He doesn't curve his grades at all and grades very tough on his test. The worst part was that I got an A on 4 of the 5 test (he says that he drops the lowest test). However, I still got a B in the class and I'm pretty sure he only gave 2 A's out 25 students.
hard to understand in class = automatically tuning out the professor = useless attendance = bad grade
He is pretty straight forward. If he says that we are going to have the quiz out of the examples from the specific chapter, it means just memorize the darn examples. He doesn't have any project at the end of the semester. Before the exam he lets you know exactly what kind of problems he is going to have on there. He is easy to pass.
worst teacher I have ever had!I had him for Math120 last semester and it took me 2-3 weeks just to understand him and if you asked him to repeat something he would react like you are dumb. One day he tested the class on something we didn't know. Only one person passed it.He talks down to the class and said"If you can't do this you'll fail at life."
frustrating and all around bad
He was not helpful, has an accent, and makes you feel dumb. He thinks if other students can A's, then everyone is capable of getting A's. Always used that excuse to make you feel worse if you got a bad grade. Was not that helpful and did not curve when almost everyone did bad and few did good.
I am a straight A student and ended up hiring a tutor, who after attending class with me said to drop it. He did not teach. 70% of class dropped or withdrew. He made you feel stupid for not understanding how to do problems he gave, which seemed to be three steps ahead of the book. Total confusion. No help.
hes helpful,always avalaible in office
Worst Math teacher I ever had. Is always late, unprepared, doesn't care and is very boring. Cannot get a problem done right on the board. Should be fired! Doesn't know what he is gong to in class until he gets there and skims through the text.
Professor Nunez is a nice teacher. He explains Math consepts clearly, does not give you a lot of homework. You don't have togive your homework back to him for points. He has 5 or 6 quizes through the semester to prepare you for test. I Don;t know how he teaches Preculculus or calculus but for math 100 and 120 he is very good and helpful teacher
Nunez is without a doubt the BEST teacher I've ever had! He is super nice. He is really funny and isn't too strict. He will go over something as long as it takes for you to feel comfortable and understand so long as you care about the class and want to succeed. He will even stay late in his office to help you. BEST!
Worst math teacher ever..please never take him...
Not the best professor you can have, but far from the being worst. He's lectures are confusing and you WILL get lost in class. Homework is not required, but do them, after doing a few more questions, what he taught in class will make sense to you. His tests are easy and straight forward. He doesn't curve grades so really do the homework.
Luis Mendez makes a lot of mistakes that his students catch. Double check your work, and points on your exam. He might cut you short. Always worried about getting in trouble with his wife lol i'm doing the homework, and reading the chapters but the last 2 exams I have failed. I don't know why, it just doesn't line up. I'm a B student.
Extremely easy class if you go to lectures. All his test/quiz problems are almost directly from the book. He can be a little confusing sometimes but if you ask him questions, he is willing to explain until you get it. On test days, he answers any questions you have before the test. He drops your lowest test and quiz.
All i'm saying is that i'm a B student and I got a D. His exams seemed to be different from the text. I have to take the course again do to his unfair exams. He always trys to make students feel bad by saying "So many students got 100%, it was a very easy exam. Don't take him. You'll regret it and your G.P.A and transcript will suffer. Mine did
I had him for Calc 351 and Stats 300. These classes were very difficult and time-consuming for me, but I felt like I learned a LOT in them. The way he organizes his stats classes is excellent. I'm an A student, got Bs. Beware his grading, however. He often loses exams and makes mistakes.
you can learn a lot from this class...
This is my first class I've taken since I was in high school, and I have to say that this teacher is the easiest, most awesome teach I've had in a really long time. He jumps around a little bit but other than that I think he's super easy and really tries to help you if your not understanding.
Horrible teacher math is already a hard subject and he goes way too fast when teaching Hes very smart at math but is horrible at teaching it. Attendance was mandatory he doesn't assign homework so you don't need the book if youre a fast learner. I dropped the class I was failing all the test also attended math lab still was getting 30-40% on tests.
Did not have a good experience in this class, difficult material but the professor explained it the best he could. Tests were frequent and pretty difficult. Need to be self-motivated to do homework and study if you are going to take this class. One benefit, no homework due ever.
Best teacher I have ever had in my life. I got a B and I didnt even have the book. I couldve easily gotten an A but slacked when I thought this wouldnt be on my transcript :/. Do ALL the hw, ask questions in class (he is VERY good at explaining things even though he has an accent!). You can Ace this class easily. Practice, practice, practice.
So even though he has a accent he is extremely clear and teaches things in a way where it is easy to learn. He doesn't get hung up on small details. He wants you to understand the process which I have never been able to do. I think because He doesn't assign homework but you do have to do problems everyday in class.
Ill start off saying im from a 4year institution taking it as a summer GE course, with that in mind, he takes his time and is very detail. This also is a downer, what killed me was how PICKY he is on grading tests... one good thing is you will know exactly what sections will be on the test and he encourges questions inclass which is good. Good luck
Great professor. Very helpful he tries his hardest to get you to understand. He seem like one of the few professors that cares and willing to take the extra steps.
I highly recommend Luis Mendez for Stats. He is fair and really wants his students to do well. I have always struggled with math but did well in 120 and in Stats. I often went to his office hours and he was always helpful. He has dry humor which is subtle and amusing.
I took Math 402 with Mendez-Nunez. His tests aren't very difficult, but his teaching also isn't very good; it makes his tests harder! You have to be *good* at self-learning in order to pass. There's heavy reliance on book because of this. And over half the class failed in the end.
EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND. brilliant guy, but a horrible teacher. explains things in a way that makes them seem more complicated than they are. beware
This professor has been the worst professor I have ever had. His professionalism is a joke! He shows up to class ten minutes late everyday, he never collect homework to give feedback, and he verbally abuses his class. The Dean had to step in and redirect his actions twice in one semester. He's not thorough and will fail you for not getting him.
Passing this class depends on your background knowledge. In high school I only went up to Pre-Cal and barely passed this class with a C. Others went to Calculus and passed with an A. There are 5 tests that determine your grade. Textbook not needed for this class but it helps. ASK QUESTIONS if you do not understand. He tries his best to help you
His accent is very thick. While I have not found that to be a particular hindrance in the past, when this is coupled with his resistance to explaining the steps in problems, it exacerbates the problem. He does not explain things well, and he does not assign homework, or even suggest any to practice with.
I love the way he teach math. He was not a hard math teacher. He didn't give homework. It was up to do to do homework and pass the class. over all great teacher.
Nunez was one of the greatest math teachers I have had. Im not the greatest at math and he really took his time to help me understand the material when I needed it. I would go into his office hours almost every chance I could and had him show me or explain things over and over until I understood. He was very patient and kind. I would recommend!
Best professor ever. Fact. I love the way he explains things because he does so in such a way that a guy like me who sucks at math can pass a class. He does have a very deep accent, but that's not a problem at all. The only way you could possibly be confused in his class is if you don't pay attention
He makes mistakes here and there. I took the 6-wk course over the summer. It gets really confusing since he doesn't thoroughly explain. Quizzes and tests are based on problems in the books. Hw isn't collected but highly recommend for you to do in order to pass this class. I wouldn't take this class again..
Ask questions if you are confused and he will gladly reexplain anything you don't get. I recommend getting the book so you can do practice problems (hw)and ask about them in class. He was a great teacher and will help you out with your grade if he sees you are really trying. Yes he has an accent, but it made me listen and focus more during class.
I have my BA and was taking this as a prerequisite for graduate school and it was the worst experience I ever had. This professor is an awful educator and after revisiting his office hours he was of no help and asked me to wait to drop the class leaving me a W. He said "asking for extra credit was the equivalent of asking for a timeout" stay away
I liked his class a lot. If you're going to go further with math, he is a great professor to take. If you understand what he teaches in class you definitely don't have to buy the book. On the other hand, he goes really fast with his explanations, so its easy to get lost if you are having a hard time understanding something.
Hard accent, repeats throughout the semester that if you don't understand the material you should transfer into a lower class. No help, tries to show you tricks for certain problems and it gets even more complicated. Only 8 out of an original 40 plus students in my class passed. I really wish I had not taken him now I have a D on my transcript.
He is an okay teacher but he does examples on the board and never really teaches.
I felt confident in the materials until the tests came, He did not give study guides so that made it hard to know just what to expect. Do not buy text book, he has a copy for everyone for free. He is super confusing when it comes to tests, a very nice guy, and his accent does not create any issues. Good luck, but take another professor if you can.
He's a tough grader, but allows partial credit on tests. He does have an accent, but isn't a problem. There are five tests which you MUST STUDY FOR! (#3 Factoring was a pain), and a final which is cumulative. Weekly quizzes on material he goes over in class. No graded or assigned hw. Buy the book to get more clarification, and take good notes!
He explains things well but can sometimes make mistakes. Book is not necessary. Does not collect homework. He reviews the type of questions that will be on exams so take notes and study those to pass the exams. Gives partial credit. Easy A if you study.
hard grader, very hard tests, he doesn't assign homework, but i suggest doing homework anyway if you do not do any homework you will most likely fail. STUDY STUDY STUDY, he does not allow calculators on tests.
Great teacher if you've taken the class before (say in high school) or are good at math, just looking for a review, etc. I'd taken the class before and was fine. A lot of people who hadn't taken it struggled A LOT. Homework isn't graded, so you should be self motivated. There are 5 tests, a cumulative final, and frequent quizzes.
He is a math teacher and if you hate math it's easy to blame. I love the way he teaches. If you are here to learn, and need math, he will be the teacher to take you there. He has helped me not only get past myself and the road blocks i put in place with math, and has helped me to understand it and how to like it. I am excited to continue on.
He shows every different possible way of doing each problem so it gets confusing. If you go to his office hours though he does a good job of explaining in a way that you can understand. Its expected that you will do homework after class and honestly if your taking a math course that's all math is practice practice practice.
He made me love math again and really teaches well. If you show him you want to succeed he will make sure you do and push you to pass. Loved him
His accent is way too thick to be able to understand anything. He doesn't have a class plan list of the chapters and sections that we will be covering throughout the semester like every other math teacher, so that if you miss class you won't be lost. Horrible teacher. Don't take him unless you absolutely have too.
if old school teaching is not your type, then don't take this professor. He is very straightforward. Doesnt assign hw, since he expects you to study. Quizzes every week to motivate you. Tests are reasonable, it is based on all the handouts he gives. Last math I took was 2yrs ago, spent an hour a day studying, and guaranteed you'll pass the course
Prof M.N. has a no-nonsense approach to math. Very traditional. Holds your feet to the fire and treats you like an aspiring-scientist instead of a student. If you don't study, lectures will be extremely hard. No HW. Gives handouts/study guides based on lecture. Don't expect pretty numbers on exams; there will be logs, e^x, and exponential functions
Seemed caring at first but he was terrible at explaining things, and the more you do bad, the more it looks like he stops caring. I have heard lots of complaints about him from friends. Most of the time it feels like he doesn't even know what he's doing, very unorganized in his approach to the point where you feel lost.
He was one of the most helpful Professors I have ever had. Did a lot of practice in class rather than just lecture, which made it easier for me to learn. He really tries to make sure that you understand the material as well. No homework, and the tests weren't too bad and they were always based completely off of what we were studying.
Having taken Algebra 2 already in HS, I found this class very EZ. He basically only does examples, but that's really all you need. If you don't understand something, he is always happy to work with you 1-on-1 during his office hours. He tells you exactly what will be on tests before and either takes a whole class or half class to review for tests.
I had no idea what Stats was before this class, but Mendez-Nunez explains things slow and gives real life examples that make the course content easier to understand. He reviews before every exam, which is really nice. He's super weird and makes these strange hissing noises sometimes, but it's actually pretty hilarious.
His writing is horribly illegible most of the time. He writes all over the board so it is hard to follow along and take notes that are helpful. Has a strong accent that would be hard for most people to understand. Doesn't take roll but will drop you for missing more than the minimum amount of class (6 hours), at the last possible moment with a W.
I would definitely recommend Professor Mendez-nunez. After 4 times of trying to pass math 100 and 103 collectively, he is the only professor that taught in a way that helped me understand what to do. Homework is not graded, 5 tests, final and quizzes. He drops the lowest test score. He really cares about everyone understanding the material.
Entering the final with a B was plausible to still fail this class. Test were too unpredictable even studying all WEEK for. Problem was that he didn't teach out of the book the school assigned, going to math lab didn't have solution manual. He taught out of dif book sent us PDFs with no answers even when asked. No assigned HW/Review probs to help
Probably one of the worst experiences I've had with a math professor in College. He is a kind man but his grading structure is infuriating and really does not favor the student especially if the student is not strong in math. No homework credit given. He also did not give out one of the midterms and put more weight on the final. Please avoid.
Has an accent thats fairly difficult to understand. Tries to lecture thoroughly but makes a lot of mistakes during class which leaves students confused. Skips a lot of steps during lecture that would be helpful for students. Overall class is graded on 10 quizzes, 4 midterms (1 is dropped) and the final. Homework is optional but you should do it.
Math is hard to teach, and for me, also hard to learn. Mr. Nunez understood my difficulties and was willing to speak to me after class about how I can improve my grades. If ever given a chance, I will take him again. This is not an easy "A" class. Do not wait until the final test to ask him for help. Overall, a very good professor.
I took his class, 100. He never worked with me, he would always switch u the conversation, that has nothing to do with math... you have o do extra studying, no matter how many studying I did, tutoring I had, he never worked with me, and more than half the class failed...
Professor Nunez is kind, smart and extremely knowledgeable.
Dont take this professor. Had him for Stats and ended up dropping it with a few other people after a month and a half of being in this lecture. Hes doesnt use canvas, so that sucks. Lastly I dont know anyone who got an A or B. Only C-s, Ds, and Fs is what I heard!
I would give this professor a 0 if I could, His lectures don't make any sense because his way of teaching math is mostly guessing and he doesn't follow the book. I had to do the math a different way but he wants it specifically his way. His exams are hard no practice exam only review from recent lectures but still doesn't help. Don't take him!
prof mendez-nunez is a very kind person but i really have to stress that unless you got a solid to a high A in your previous math class you're gonna struggle with his exams. i was one of only 5 people in a course that had about 30 students that managed to get above 90% in the course and even i was worried at times. he drops your lowest test score.
Professor Nunez is horrible and not good math teacher, because he goes from one to another and his way of math is bad, its his way or the highway no either or your own way of math teaching. His grading is harsh and not fair, doesnt give you no credit even if you know the steps, if its wrong you get no points on the test or credit.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR, man I had a hard time with this teachers you can barley understand his lecture he always mad mistakes very boring lectures one DO NOT TAKE HIM if you want to learn from the book, way to much money to spend on this prof class, no extra credit what he teaches is not even in the quizzes nor test I had to drop this class.
I'm not saying he is terrible but he is terrible. He always makes mistakes during lectures making it hard to understand what was actually correct. The test would have nothing that was similar to problems taught in class. I am personally good at math and was able to get a good grade but if you struggle this class it will destroy you.
Sigh. This professor does care about his students, he is not mean and he is not rude. But when I tell you he is so disorganized... I cannot tell you enough. Imagine, 3-8 CANVAS notifs A DAY with due dates, topics, lectures, quizzes ALWAYS changing. It's hell. Even if you have a calendar, journal, notepad, it'll never prepare you for this. Don't.
I set aside hours in a week to complete the units he posts, but frankly he is the most disorganized teacher EVER. He also posts quizzes with questions we are not taught to answer. He also claims to reply to emails fast, he doesn't reply to me at all anymore. Lastly, he uses other professors' videos to teach his class, he isn't teaching at all.
God, I hated this class. I already hated stats before the class and after having this professor, I lw hate it more. He tells us to include units on the next quiz, then doesn't give us the right ones. His answer keys are riddled with errors everywhere, and that's where our grades come from. My grade went from a 100% to a 77% because of his mistakes.
Professor Mendez did a good job at preparing me for the trigonometry portions of the calculus classes I would have to take later on. I went into the class not having any idea what trig was all about, and came out of it with a good understanding. I would recommend utilizing the free tutoring offered by the college to help with his course.
Do not take his online class. He does not know how to use Canvas. At all. It's horrible.
Mendez keeps telling students to go back down to pre-algebra if they don't understand what he's teaching. Also says Math is like apples and oranges on a constant basis. Incomprehensible lectures. Calls Intermediate Algebra "useless." I was the only student who passed the class.
Zoom meetings are optional, but I recommend attending them as he would go over problems. He posts YouTube links and textbook pdfs, yet it is a very self-driven class. You have to be motivated to learn because he won't hold your hand through the course. Very kind person, but extremely challenging class. Expects you to have some background in trig.
W o r s t Prof. e v e r . Made truly jacked up comments on the first week. Went on long non-math related rants. He was difficult to understand and it was a lot worse when he got agitated. I learned entirely from the book. His tests are fair, he grades fairly and homework is reasonable.
When I took his class I thought it was going to be a breeze. No. I had no motivation to do my any work outside of the class because he did not assign homework. He also doesn't give you extra credit opportunities. So whatever you get on the 16 quizzes and 3 tests is what you get.
His uses pre-algebra examples for a stats class. I barely passed with a 'C' but this is because of using the textbook, not his lectures. Mendez-Nunez also kicks students out of class if they're 2-3 minutes late.
Prof. Mendez was not a good explainer. His accent and mediocre handwriting made it more difficult to learn. He made weird analogies that were very loosely connected. He does not give out homework so tests are the only thing that he grades. Test averages were always very low. I learned the majority of the class on my own through Youtube.
He rush through everything!! The way how he explains the questions made it extra difficult. Also really hard to read his writing :(
The professor was honestly horrible. Never gave homework which may sound good if it wasn't for the fact that he was a subpar teacher. Test constantly and grades were inaccessible as he does not use canvas. Went into office hours to inquire about my grade and was shown the grades of every student he was teaching at the time. Don't take this teacher.
Professor taught very well. It was easy to understand the material. He was also willing to help everyone who asked for help.
This professor is very kind and is willing to help you understand the material by explaining the concept as many times as needed. There are times where it may get difficult to sometimes keep track of what he is teaching and it does get confusing. Class requires immense amount of patience and attention. Willing to explain how to improve grades.
Boring lectures, and would purposefully make mistakes to make sure his class was "paying attention". The material he teaches was new to me at the time, so when we do problems together as a class and I see that my answer is different, I assume I'm the one that made a mistake. Very disheartening from my start to my withdrawal from the class.
At the start I loathed showing up, but over time I grew to not mind the class. At least until it was time for finals and I realized he... didn't... teach well? I took this class in HS and still struggled immensely. I almost had an F before the final so I assume he curved the grade, as over half the class was failing. He's funny at least.
Great professor. He will be able to answer anything you throw at him. He has a thick accent, but you get used to it. No homework, but if you are not doing problems outside of class forget about getting an A. His tests are very hard, but last test and final are a bit easier. I really recommend this professor if you want a good understanding.
If you are not the best at taking tests I would be careful since your grade is all based on tests. He explains things decently well. Notes are not allowed but he gives you formula cards that you can use during tests. He does not believe in extra credit at all. He drops your lowest grade for a test so that's helpful.
A disorganized, unhelpful, and strangely political teacher. He spent classtime ranting that if we failed his class we'd end up as government workers (the govt funds city college, just saying) and how diversity is bullshit. He was constantly behind on material and would often go over material once before exams. $100 book wasn't used, no dates for HW
The ratings on here are bad because his classes are hard, but you will DEFINITELY learn the material if you take this professor. Grades based on tests/quizzes and a final. Gives out optional worksheets for practice, but does not assign homework. Occasionally he would talk about history and its connection to math which was quite fascinating.
Professor can be hit or miss - lectures are sometimes disorganized, but the material is explained well if you put in the work. Unstuck study was a lifesaver for exam prep. Overall, not the easiest class, but manageable with the right study tactics.
Imagine being taught by your old school engineer grandfather off the cuff and you'll be pretty close. No homework, no textbook, no calculators, multiple pages of problems to learn from, constant reminders that if you don't understand you'll fail and should do something else, scatterbrained rants about PC topics, goes at light speed, talks down.👎🏻
yea dont even think about it
hey honestly the worst professor you would not wanna jump into his class. I honestly joined his class because it was a perfect fit for my schedule but now I regret it. I don't hate him but he makes easy thing into a complicated mess. Sorry professor but I am never gonna take any classes with you again
On average, a difficult class is just because it is a math class, but if you pay attention and study the materials, your grade should be fine. No homework, but an online textbook is given. The final is cumulative from the whole semester. Great professor and answers questions thoroughly.
