he is amazing
He was the best professor I've had so far...this is a hard subject and not an easy class but he will help you whenever you need it and is very patient and wants to help you learn the material. I would recommend him to anyone taking Chemistry!
Best teacher!!!! I love him. He is always willing to help. Gives lots of extra credit! Overall an awesome professor.
I had him for 1406 and 1411. He is VERY helpful and willing to do anything to help his students. No one takes chem for fun so you definitely need to study and earn your grade. He could be little picky in the lab but that's for all good. He does have thick accent. Take this professor or Dr.Magtoto for chem. HARD but you definitely LEARN chem:)!
He is an extremely hard teacher. would not recommend him to anyone who isn't naturally smart!
He was a great professor. I had him for a summer class and i wouldnt recommend it because he wanted to go deeper on everything and we just didnt have the time for it but if you put in the work he really is a great professor!
Please do not blame your c or f on this professor. Because he does everything to help his students! Very nice and sweet guy. Would recommend him!
this guy is very helpful, but is a bit too passionate about chemistry. he knows chemistry is not a favored subject, but he will help you through it. overall good. would recommend
Very good teach! Always has time to explain what is not understood. Its a hard class but this guy is a good professor. Don't blame the teacher if you don't get an A because he is always willing to help.
He is very helpful. He always has time to help his students. using any ways to explain to make student understand. He is funny but hard ... Hard but really good. I recommend him for students, who really like chemistry.
He is a good professor. he is very helpful and be willing to help his students by any ways. He is funny but so Hard ... hard but really good. I recommend him for students, who really like chemistry.
He loves chemistry and that passion passes on to his students, he is always willing to help and will even schedule extra hours to assist with preperation for a test, if your looking for an easy A your taking the wrong teacher. He is going to make you work for your grade.
Reyes is a great teacher willing to help out in all circumstances! I had him for lab and wished I would have had him for lecture as well since my lecture teacher was awful. He actually made me understand the material! I really think he deserves more credit! And i mean who said Chemistry was easy? He's awesome and really fun too! Totally recommend!
Professor Reyes was awesome. He takes what he is teaching seriously and he is always willing to help his students. If you aren't getting anything that's what his office hours are for. Although the course is not easy it's up to you and how committed you are to passing for whether or not you make the grade you wish to make.
This professor is great at teaching for each student. He makes sure you understand before continuing on. He is understanding with deadlines and being flexible. This was a challenging course but he made it enjoyable. I would totally recommend his class!
This professor is very willing to help but he is very confusing and towards the end of the semester our class was so behind that I found it extremly stressful. It got so out of hand that he pushed it over to our lab. I felt that was the last straw. He loves to help so much so that it runs you behind in lecture.
Mr. Reyes is a great instructor but I recommend taking this class during a regular semester. This is NOT a class for the summer. There is so much to cover but not enough time to retain the material. He did his best to help his students and was available when we needed him. I highly recommend him during a regular semester.
Great professor! He takes time out of his own schedule to work with you. He even helped students on Saturdays and Sundays! Chemistry is not my best subject, but with Mr. Reyes it is an attainable B, if not A. Plus, the Final is multiple choice!
I highly recommend taking Professor Reyes for the Lecture and Lab. He is easily one of the best professors I have ever had. He WANTS you to pass with an A+ and will help you understand anything. All of the homework and quizzes were very easy. Tests were very straight forward. As long as you take notes on the chapters, you will be fine.
I took Dr. Barbarin, (who is amazing), but sometimes I needed more help when he was not in his office, so I turned to Mr. Reyes. What a great professor! Even though I wasn't his student, he helped me so much and gave me another point of view. I highly recommend Mr. Reyes!
Mr. Reyes is by far the best teacher I ever had. I love his teaching style. Chemistry is not easy but Mr Reyes is very dedicated and helpful, he even gave up his weekends to come and tutor us. He is always available to respond any questions. I learned a lot. I would recommend him to anyone who needs to take chemistry. He is awesome!
This professor is amazing! Chemistry is a hard subject so I wouldn't expect an 'easy' ride but he is so helpful. He truly cares about his students and is ALWAYS there to help. He responds to emails quickly, which I LOVED. He is easy to understand. I will always remember this professor and hope to take him for Chem 2!
Mr. Reyes is a great instructor. He is a man of integrity and he loves teaching. He is also very helpful! This was my first time taking an online class and I loved it. The class is hard but he does his best to help you understand it. This course requires time and dedication so be prepared. I highly recommend Mr. Reyes!
Mr Reyes was 1 of the best professors I've had throughout college. If you don't understand, he will go out of his way to make sure you grasp the concept. You need to attend class because of all the information it entails. He is great at answering emails, he is available during office hours (utilize!). I would definitely retake him!
Awesome professor. Will answer any and all questions, you just have to ask. Highly recommend him!
Loved him in lab and heard good things about his Chem 1 class. But DO NOT take chem 2 with him. Nightmare of a class. 20+ hours of work outside of class a week.
Mr. Reyes is a great professor, but you have to work REALLY hard to do well. This class is very time consuming. The online homework takes 10+ hours a week alone. This leaves little study time and the tests are a nightmare. I would not recommend this professor if you have a full load and need an A.
Prof. Arriaga is a very nice guy. But his course load is a nightmare. He was switched with the professor I had originally chosen at the last minute, so I had no idea until I walked in to class what I was in for. If it wasn't for the 10+ hours of study time outside of class, I would have liked it a lot more. Plus the online portions were awful.
Reyes offers plenty of diverse coursework for different learning styles. Group project, online homework, daily feedback, videos, real life examples, solving problems, etc. He will go out of his way to provide multiple resources to his students, but most chemistry concepts need PRACTICE. You have to earn your grade. Has an accent, get used to it.
Clear expectations, very willing to help you succeed. LOTS of tough material to cover, but any chemistry class is like that. You need to put in effort to keep up. If you fall behind, you'll have trouble catching up.
He takes 3 grades per lab. If you are not in dress code your grade will show it. We didn't have any test. He knows his stuff and enjoys teaching it.
This was a tough course to do in a short time. He tests were crazy and our final was 20 pages long. He is a great teacher and knows his stuff. I think he thinks we should all master in chemistry. Turns out I don't need this class after all, but glad I took it.
I took Prof Reyes for Chem 1 and it wasn't too bad. Chem 2 is a lot more difficult though. I literally had people in the Study Center groan when I said I was in his class and needed help! He's really smart and knows what he's talking about, but gives tests like you're a chem major and completely understand everything, and gives a TON of homework.
I think he is a really nice and smart teacher. You really have to understand every concept or topic to do the test and homework. You need to be on top of this class because the homework is kinda long and the test are hard if you don't understand. He does everything he can to provide you the resources for his class. It is a lot of work.
You must do pre-labs prior to class, he is a little hard to understand, expects you to know how to do lab prior to class, will explain any question you have which really helps. Labs are done prior to learning material in class, explaining that to him and asking questions will get you an A. Must write out everything exactly to the decimal or else.
Over all he is a great teacher, he really wants his students to understand the science. But when it comes to test, all that should be studied is unrealistic. He demands too much from his students, and his lectures are always rushed because too much time is spent on one area. He expects you to learn the material not gone over in class on your own.
I took him for 1411 lab and while it was not easy, he was so helpful and patient when I asked questions. He will tell you before you turn in your report if an answer is wrong as long as you are asking questions. He is dedicated to his students and will do what he needs to do to get the student to understand
Chemistry, is Chemistry... No matter what, it WILL be hard if you are not dedicated! Prof. Reyes, is WONDERFUL! Go to his office hours, you will walk out feeling like you learned the material you needed too, that you may have missed and more. HELPS you too understand, THERE FOR HIS STUDENTS! AT ANY TIME! Take him if you want too learn! no regrets!
Great Professor has a good teaching style. He will get a few laughs out of you from time to time . Be cool and attend class or else you wont get the material. Studying is essential to passing, there is a lot of material to cover in this course. He's always there to help if you get stuck on anything, so ASK QUESTIONS and STUDY HARD!.
Mr Reyes is a WONDERFUL instructor who LOVES chem!! This class speaks a language all it's own so you have to show up, participate and ask questions. He is MORE than willing to help those who help themselves. When he recommends forming a study group (if only u and another person) DO it!! This was a tough class but I got my A!!! Highly recommend him.
Took this class during the summer session. Was an outstanding teacher.
Excellent teacher - explains everything and if you still have questions he will go over again until you understand - loved his class
Professor Reyes is very passionate about his teaching and truly cares for his students, but his class required way too much work to pass. No completion grades. Tests are open ended and the majority of the class was failing them. Daily work EVERY day. I failed his class, but got an A with a different professor. Do you research and shop around.
Mr. Reyes is amazing. I took him for Chem1 and organic chemistry 1 and I can say that he really is a great teacher. Yes, you have to read and do the homework but at the end of the day you learn so much from the class. I HIGHLY recommend taking his class!!
Outstanding teacher and is very passionate about Chemistry. Practice those SEEI questions though, and be on top of the quizzes you have to do every week (not that hard). I would suggest getting like a study group to help each other out. When you go to his office for help be ready to work because he will not give you a free answer.
Prof Reyes was one of the best professors I've ever had. Organic Chemistry was extremely tough, but as long as you read the book and participated in every aspect, you will survive. He wants you to succeed!! Always accessible by email and office hours. Gives 3 reset/extensions on HW. Amazing. Super great. Etc. READ THE BOOK. RELIGIOUSLY.
he loves chem and he will help you but you teach yourself, u have to take a quiz to open the powerpoint. you have to read the chapters (mandatory)to understand what he is talking about, lots of HW, test were too complicated with SEEI questions. at the beginning we were 30 studets and only 14 finished the course (not kidding). just prepare yourself.
Mr. Reyes is an amazing professor, chemistry is difficult but he makes sure you understand it and really works with you on it. He makes himself available to you, and goes above and beyond! There's lots of homeowkr but it's designed to help, and the tests are difficult just be sure to utizlize all of your resources.
He gives an insane amount of homework that takes hours to complete. You are basically expected to know the material after the first five seconds of him presenting it. He doesn't care if you are uncomfortable speaking in front of others. He nit picks your answers and will embarrass you in front of the class. I was a 4.0 student, but not anymore....
This is a labor intensive class. You will work and work hard. But, there is a very passionate professor who is willing to help you to succeed. He is professional , but personable. He will take the time to help you understand. My only recommendation is not to take this as a summer class. And definitely form study groups.
Professor Reyes is by far one of the best professors I've had. He does well in preparing you for exams. You do have to show a lot of effort, going to SI definitely contributed to me getting an A in his class. If there was ever any doubt with the class he would go over the matter. The class is textbook heavy so if you fall behind it will be hard.
He's very hard to understand and he takes lab way too seriously and won't let anyone leave early when they are done with their assignments. He spent the first two weeks of class explaining how he was going to critically teach us.. come on dude, just teach. The examples he gives are nothing like on the HW. Overall, I'd recommend DrParrish over him.
I would not recommend him for Organic Chemistry. He expects you to read the book and know the material pretty thoroughly before class, and for a lot of the concepts in this class it is extremely difficult to do. The exams are the hardest I have ever taken, the homework is difficult, and his lectures are hard to keep up with and understand.
Usually the lazy people who do bad in his class. if you do the homework and show up to class and lab. You will be okay. It is stressfull at times but Chemistry is not an easy subject. His test are only 10 percent of your grade so even if you fail the rest you will be okay. Oh yeah and go to the SI session. They will help you in not failing the test
Before I took this class, I had no chemistry background. Professor Reyes was truthfully one of the best professors I have ever had! He will spend however much time he needs to with you to make sure that you understand the concepts. He does expect a lot as far as homework and preparation for the lectures but it is all within your best interest.
What a Chemistry professor/class should be.
Very hard tests, but as long as you do well on your homeworks and get a semi-decent grades on tests you should get an A. For sure not an easy A, but he is one of the most dedicated teachers out there. If you have a question he will do everything he can to solve it. I wish I had this professor for every class i've taken.
He's the best professor I've ever had. He would give you all the time you need and is willing to give up his time just to help you out. I love how he could explain science concepts even if you transform into a 5 year old. He reminds me of a great physicist Richard Feynman! Just do the work he gives out for the class, it's there for a reason!
Mr. Reyes is a great chem teacher. Not an easy class so be prepared to learn. He's tough but he just really wants you to learn the material; not just memorize. He is easily available outside of class and will go out of his way to help you understand even the most basic concepts. I recommend taking him. I plan on taking him for chem 2.
I took this class while taking other difficult classes and also working full time. It was extremely difficult. There is a lot of homework, practicing that needs to be done on your own, and attendance is mandatory. However, Reyes is a pretty good teacher and the way he challenges you will make you a better student.
Tends to get bogged down making sure everyone understands the concepts. Homework is a large portion of the grade so don't blow it off. The course was about as difficult as other entry level science courses, do the reading before coming to class and it's really not that bad.
I have an A in this class and a 3.8 GPA and I would NEVER recommend Prof. Reyes. Extremely tough grader, unpredictable expectations, purposefully assigns difficult work to frustrate you (his words). He emailed lab instructions halfway through lab and didnt tell everyone. Good lecturer, but makes a freshman-level class WAY harder than necessary.
If you would like a nice science class that you just need to show up pay attention and do homework online. Prof reyes will not allow any missed assignments. Claims to offer extra credit but extra credit requires much more effort than his lab reports which are 2-4 pages. You will need 40 hours a week dedicated to this course. Not including classtime
Dr. Reyes is one of the best professors I have had. Amazing guy and really loves what he does. I would definitely take his class again. If you do you work and put forth effort he is willing to work with you. If you're lazy you won't pass this class. He really wants you to understand to concepts. As long as you stay on top of things you're good.
Wonderful professor. He makes a though subject manageable with his organization and flexibleness. I Definitely recommend him for anyone nervous about taking chemistry.
Great guy. Very accessible outside of class. Gives partial credit but exams are significantly harder than the material covered in class. The exam questions were not usually straight forward, you had to have a pretty in depth understanding of the concepts. Reading the textbook was very helpful in this class. He posts exams from previous semesters.
Reyes was an excellent lecturer. He really wanted to make sure that his students understood the topics. He helps you study for the exams during office hours. Everything is cumulative and he makes it tough ,but you learn so much and he gives out plenty of extra credit. My only complaint is that the homework is very time consuming and frustrating.
Reyes is a gem. He gives you a lot of partial credit on the tests. Even if you don't get the exact answer at the end, if you demonstrate you understood the concept he usually gives you the points. No textbook needed. However, sometimes he pulls test questions from the textbook. (Just take pictures of the end of chapter problems at the SLC)
Professor Reyes is there to teach you chemistry, but what he really does is teach you how to learn. Much of the material you have to learn by yourself. But, when you get stuck Reyes is always ready to help you understand it. I came out of his class with an ability to teach myself. However, do not take his class if you work full time, it's too much.
Professor Reyes is one of the best instructors I've had. He is very good at explaining new concepts, so that they are easier to learn. That said, it is still a challenging course that requires studying outside of class in order to pass.
Best professor i have ever taken. If you want to learn chemistry he is the one.
Definitely more work than needed. He gives an insane amount of homework that takes hours to complete. You are basically expected to know the material after the first five seconds of him presenting it.
I don't recommend this professor to anyone. He doesn't care about his students. If you don't understand something. He tells you to find someone else to help you. He is willing to stay after class to help but only on certain days. But if you don't understand when you stay after for help. There isnt anything he can do for you.
Took the summer course. It is a lot of work of course because its everything from a semester compacted into a month. Only take summer if you think you can handle something like that. He is honestly such an amazing professor so caring and willing to do so much to help you. All you have to do is ask. Definitely recommend him for this course!
He is the best professor ever. If you follow the timeline of assignements and quizzes on time, you can have a good grade(with a lots of extra credits). He is always welcome his students asking question(most important ), and explains anything to understand easily. If I need to take any other class he teaches, I would take him again.
Youre expected to teach yourself using the homework program which takes HOURS. On the first day he told us you will learn the material outside of class and we will go over parts of it in class. If you dont complete the pre lab he makes you leave class which puts you even further behind. If you have questions you are out of luck.
Mr. Reyes cares a lot about you if you show him that you care about his class & the work. Although attendance isn't mandatory, but if you come every day he'll give you a bonus at the end & his lectures are important for tests. Be familiar with ALEKS tho! he's a super tough grader but you'll end up understanding. I spend at least 10hr/week for him.
DO NOT TAKE!!! He makes this class harder that it needs to be. A LOT of HW from worthless Aleks. Expects you to know all the material before you come to class and he will get frustrated and say he is wasting his time explaining if you/the class dont understand a concept. Wants perfect lab reports and his test are 1-2 packets w/not enough time.
After taking Professor Reyes for three semesters, I can genuinely say that he is one of the best professors I've ever taken for such a challenging subject. Although his work can be overwhelming at times, with good time management his work can be done. He is willing to help you if you put in the effort in wanting to understand the material.
Took Reyes for CHEM1 and plan on taking him again for CHEM2. The class itself is very difficult, i mean its chemistry, however Mr. Reyes explanation and shortcuts helped the course a bit easier. Participation matters in lecture as well as taking good notes to study later. There will be a TON of homework (ALEKS), so make sure you do them daily.
IDK where all these positive reviews come from but this was the worst class/instructor I have ever had. Lots of hw on aleks (one section can have 10+ lengthy problems) and his test are way to long and unrealistic.
Mr. Luis was so great professor, and he give you lot of amount homework to do. Make sure keep up on Aleks daily too. He want you to pass this class. Don't listen to negative comment about him.
I can see that people start telling lies on here about this professor. Why all those positive comments? This was the tough class and instructor I never had in my life. A lot of HW on Aleks. He expects you to know everything before class. His tests are the hardest ones. His lab reports must clear as hell. If you want to regret. Take HIM. D'ont
Mr. Reyes is a great professor that will go to great lengths to help you learn chemistry, but you also really have to study hard to get a good grade. He is by far one of my favorite professors Ive taken at TCC.
GREAT GUY BUT, He has a program added to his class called ALEKS. This program takes 20 hours of your time and he tells you this first day. You also have to study for lecture and lab separately. He doesn't teach lab because he doesn't test you over it. You study on your own, you go in partner up with someone and do lab there is no teaching from him.
Reyes is a really good guy, he'll honestly do anything for you, BUT his class is set up where you teach yourself about 85% and the rest is him rolling his dice and putting ppl on the spot in class. His expectations are unrealistic. Homework which is ALEKS online can take u almost 50 hrs a week. This class is very hardso think about it long and hard
Honestly one of the best profs Ive ever had. Very patient and clear. He is passionate about teaching. There is A LOT of homework. My only critique is that the lab and lecture are completely out of sync and you will need to do a lot of i dependent study. Its a hard class but he sincerely wants you to succeed.
Chemistry is definitely not an easy science to work through. If it is your first time seeing chem, the problems most won't click. However, he will leave no student behind. There are many analogies he will use for everyone to understand certain concepts. He is one of those teachers who want the students to learn by thinking for themselves.
Professor Reyes for sure is the best Professor so far! He will do anything to make YOU succeed. He assigns lots of work including Prelab, Postlab, Homework assignments and Daily work. To him things that matter are students involvement, hard work, questions, better understanding and not memorization at all!!! He is always available to help!
I have taken Mr. Reyes class for chem 1, chem 2, and organic chem. He is a very good teacher and will not stop teaching a lesson even if just one person does not get it. He has a lot of homework but it is usually due before the lecture so that you have an understanding of what he is going to teach. Overall his course can be hard but it is worth it.
I took him for chem1/2 and o chem. Honestly, o chem is very difficult and he doesn't make it easy but if you pay attention in class and do ALL OF UR WORK you'll definitely pass because of his grading criteria. so best advise is get A's in everything else so that if u do bad in exams u will still get an A. HE CARES A LOT SO ASK HIM FOR ANYTHING!!
He grades everything hard
Hes a tough teacher and the class itself is very difficult and time consuming. participation is a number 1 thing in his class, he randomly picks students to answer questions and if you dont know hell pull it out of you.
Lectures did not help at all with understanding concepts, had to read textbooks to understand a lot better. Would force you to answer the question if youre randomly called during lecture.
He really tries to make sure you LEARN the material rather than memorizing it. Will randomly call on students to answer daily work questions but is always willing to work them out with you if you don't know the answer which helps way more than not answering. Take advantage of extra credit, so much to say with not enough words. Best professor ever!
This class required a loootttttt of working im talking a lot, but truly its all worth it. Just do every single thing youre given and make sure to wake up to his lectures for attendance! If you dont answer when he calls on you to answer a question he might kick you out. TESTS ARE NOT PROCTORED:)
This guy is TOUGH man, homework can take up to 4-5 hrs to complete and thats not even counting the weekly labs that we had to do. Hes a nice guy that will help you if you need it but he expects you to do 80% of th heavy lifting. Grades with a heavy hand and will take off points. Rolls dice and picks ppl to answer questions every day so be prepared
This professor is very passionate, which is great. He does give the option to switch up the syllabus and make a few rules for hw, quizzes, tests, ect. The homework is very time consuming. As long as you stay on top of your work it is manageable to make an A in this class.
honestly don't know where to begin. wasn't even supposed to be the prof. he tried to rush us & got frustrated when we didnt understand. never fully explained the material. blamed the reason we all failed on the test format. asks to be corrected but then always finds excuses on why he was right in the first place. started w/ 49 ended w/ 28
don't take him. gives you about 5 days to do a minimum 15 hours of aleks homework, 12 daily work papers, recorded lectures, pre labs and post lab write ups. calls on random students in class and pressures you to answer. he says the class is self taught so he doesn't teach. use youtube to teach you, its better than his "lectures"
I dropped his class as soon as I could. Hes a very strict and by the book professor. Attendance is required, Aleks homework online is awful and tedious, lectures are ok. My advice to him would be to actually teach the class, not call on random students and put them on the spot in front of others. Thats just not right. We waste valuable time.
Avoid taking this class if you can, a large majority of the work takes up a lot of time, an example being that the ALEKS will take hours just to complete one topic. The lectures were decent, but everything is basically a "on your own" type of thing. Overall, I recommend taking another Chem teacher if you can, this class was too stressful.
This class takes majority of your time. The amount of Aleks homework is ridiculous it takes hours to complete. The lecture are ok. He rolls the dice and assign numbers to random students and put them on the spot. This class was so stressful. I would recommend taking a different professor.
Hes a nice professor but I had to drop his class. The class is so overwhelming and he assigns an abundance of material all at once with no clarity. Homework is awful and software he uses is even worse. Graded heavy but gives partial credit. Id be careful about selecting him puts you on the spot in class and randomly picks students to answer.
Tho s Professor gave me so much anxiety aside from randomly calling on you to answer questions and the awful homework software he used it was awful. Would not take again
Professor Luis is a great teacher but I had to drop his class. He gives a lot of homework! But if you ask he helps you understand any material you ask. If you take him you will have to put in some work. His tests are made to make you think so there isn't necessarily a test review. The labs are pretty easy.
My section was a blended course, so most of the learning was done out of the classroom. The class was very demanding- hours of homework every week, but I learned a lot about chemistry at the end. He drops the lowest test, and gives a ton of extra credit. The way the assignments are weighted allows students to get good grades if they do their work.
He gives way too much homework and calls on random students using dice to answer questions. The fire alarm went off during his lecture and when everyone was outside, he continued lecturing right next to the building with the alarm still going off and firetrucks pulling up. It was very unprofessional.
Toughest person I have learned from in my entire academic career. Labs were easy as pie, but in the lecture its a different beast. Hws are online (aleks) and the test you take come from those problems but at random. And yes he grades heavy (no partial credit is given). Attendance is required. Calls roll at the start of class. Would NOT take again.
