His test are right from the book, you have to read every deatil, no point of going to class really b/c his notes suck and arent on the test. Just read the book and all the minor details and you should get a A or a B.
He's an OK teacher. Lectures are interesting bc his examples are funny. Tests has so many questions from the book, barely his notes. If you wanna do real well in his class, you better read every detail! Even the statistical facts too. He gives about 3 extra credits and 2 homework assignments.STUDY!
this guy is really cool - his test can be pretty hard if you don't read the assigned material - but his personality totally makes up for it - if you show up everyday and show him you are interesting you'll be fine - i highly reccoment not to miss class - this was the only class i like going to lol
he is a really cool teacher and you can tell he actually likes what he does. his tests come straight from the book so just read the text for tests. He gives three assignments that are'nt that bad. I really recommend this teacher because you wiil actually enjoy it.
great teacher..very nice. i enjoyed his class. i actually didn't miss a class in that class. hahaha that's how much i enjoyed his class. LoL! made a B. he makes the class go by fast
He's a really nice and funny guy..I enjoyed going to his class because he knows how to teach. His assignments were very easy. All you have to do is read the text, you won't get bored from his lectures. He tries his best to give you good examples in his lectures. I enjoyed this class. I pulled a B :)
Salinas is quite funny. The way he pronounces some words is rather chuckling. His test anyway are not easy, but he cant get you bored in class. He is a peoples teacher.
Salinas is a teacher that loves what he does. He is very funny and knowledgeable but his test are difficult I read all the chapters and still have yet to receive at least a B on any tests. This is just not me all of his classes fail his tests
I will remember him as my all time favorite professor. Great person, and overall nice guy.
The class was enlightening and quite interesting. He does his best to make sure you understand the concepts. The guy is witty, down to earth and an all around cool guy. I never made real high grades on each test but he knows if you put in real effort. How do I know? I passed with an A. I learned a lot of interesting things and you will too!
he is so awesome. the class goes by really fast, takes attendance every class though. didn't really read the book...i didn't really try hard for this class because of the other classes that i had to study for. made B which was totally fine with me considering that i did not read the book.
This teacher is great! He is funny and helps you understand everything you need help on. One thing is that the tests that we have, no one passes them. I don't understand why. I read the book and the notes more then once. But overall he is the best!
Salinas was probably my favorite professor my first semester of college. He was nice, clear, and helpful. He was also always smiling, which is a great plus after meeting some of the meaner professors I've had
Dr. Salinas is an excellent professor. Unlike Ms. L. Cook he involves the students in his lectures and the understanding of the material is practical and appliable to life experiencs. Highly recommend this professor. He one instuctor with a doctorate degree that still on earth and not in the stars somewhere with his teaching.
He is the BEST teacher I have had at HCC. He was not only really cool, but a great professor. The class was really interesting. If you are going to take sociology at Stafford be sure and get him.

this class is very interesting. i just wished he'd have a organized format for his notes but other than that he is an excelent professor!
HE JUST GO OVER VOCABULARY THATS ALL HE TEACH. HE DON'T HELP STUDENTS AT ALL. TO GET EXTRA CREDIT YOU HAVE TO PAY $15 DOLLAR TO GET 10 POINTS. IS THAT WHAT YOU WANT?
Professor Salinas is very knowledgeable in the field, however he lacks a certain element which enables him to transfer information from his mind to the students. He also was not very clear about testing material. I thought tests would be over material covered. You better read your book and use flash cards, because tests are tough.Luckily for curves
Don't like him!
Dont be fooled, Salinas is one hard teacher. Even though his class is chill you will fail!
Mr. Luis Salinas is the worst teacher I've had going to HCC> For every0ne that doesnt want to fail, don't take him. Hes teaching methods are the worst. When you ask him a question he gets frustrated and never gives you a forward answer. His exams are worth 75% and there are 2 HW assignements that are work 25%. The test are over random information
he really nice he lectures are very intresting even though his test are really hard he gives 10 or 20 points curves on each test. i recomend
Three Words: Suck my balls Salinas.... Yes, he knows his stuff and you learn, but his tests are like rubiks cubes, u aint gonna finish it, and they are all frikin hard
this guy is a GAY IDIOT. that doesnt know what the **** he's talking abt. Test have nothing to do with lectures. He gave the stupidest xtra credit, you had to watch a Foreign movie at the angelica theatere, for 3 points or something. He's a REAL FROOT LOOP!
Yeah, he's hard. His test are crazy confusing. Only 4 people passed the test(including me).He has an IVY education and he's a PHD. He will make you laugh, but he will also make you cry day after test day. Man If I was tested on how many friends he has, I would've made an A. Don't take him if you can resist. However, his lectures are obsolete.
funny guy but his test are crazy hard
all he does is stand in front of the class with boring power point projects that relate NOTHING to the test. he tells you about some practice tests online & those will help you A LOT with the tests... so do those.
Highly recommend this guy he's really nice and easy
Great teacher and makes class fun and interesting. I would take another course with him if I could.

He is the worse teacher I will ever have!!!
Dr. Salinas is a wonderful teacher. He is interesting, funny, and truly cares about his students. He only gives one easy homework assignment & his lecture exams can be pretty tough, but as long as you read the book & take notes in class, they aren't bad. He gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit. I passed with an A. Take his class!
This man does not help one bit...although his lectures are interesting they dont relate at all to his tests. Copy everything on the board and be sure to read your book, I barely passed this class and I used to have a 4.0 GPA!!! I don't recommend him at all but if you take him all I can say is GOOD LUCK!!!
hes really good, and he makes the class more intresting
Pretty good, you will enjoy yourself.
He's cool. i never read the textbook. only read sections at the end of each chapter and do all the extra credit. take notes but never use them (heard they were useless) and do good in the homwework. failed 3 of the the tests. and passed with a B!!
Don't have an opinion different than his or else he will send you nasty emails and not give you extra points to bring up your grade, but still give it to others in the class. He appears nice, but he's FAKE.

his first test i failed, others got all A's. the lectures never helped me one bit, I read the book and made my own notes. only 4 tests and one H.W. for your grade, but two 15 pt extra credits given. the extra points count as test points so it raised my first test of 68 to a 98. funny guy, just read the book I'll take him again for upper level class
I DID NOT LIKE HI I FAILED THE CLASS WITH A D AND RETOOK IT OVER. I GOT A C+ WITH PAMELA LEWIS AND SHE WAS A BETTER LECTURE AND SHE KNOW HOW TO TEACH.ALSO HE IS LATE AND DOES NOT WORK WITH YOU AND HARDLY SHOW UP TO CLASS AND WHEN HE DOES HE IS SO BORING HE MORE INTO HISELF THAN HIS WORK AS A PROFESSOR AND HE TALK LIKE THE GUY OF THE EYEDROP COM!!
Dr. Salinas lectures are really good. He's fun and entertaining when he teaches. His test aren't extremely hard but you do have to read the book to pass. Honestly, if you read the book you will not need to pay much attention in class.
Odd style of teaching, unclear and looks confused. Gives unclear answers for question students ask.Tests do not always reflect material covered. He seems lost. May be a nice guy but, not my kind of prof.
I made an A in the class but he is extremely hard to follow. The class ca be interesting with class participation but reading the book is pertinent. His tests require that you read andstudy the information from the book. Overall, I probably would not take this prof again. I was not comfortable with his teaching style.
First of all, let me say one thing, his tests are very hard..if u dont read the textbook carefully without even negelcting a single line..the test is going to be very hard..u wont pass i must say...if u take his class..pleaz read the text book and do the home work...
Dr. Salinas was an awesome and entertaining professor.
Dr salinas is a very good proffessor, but his test is very hard.
Dr salinas is a very good proffessor....he teaches clearly and they are easily understandable.....he is a very funny guy and he keeps the class alive....he gives extra points but his test are kinda hard when you dont read the book.....overrall he is a great proffessor
I hate to give such a low rating to a teacher that has such a wonderful personality. He will make you laugh. The test are extremely hard though and have barely, if anything at all to do with the notes. I wish I never took this class just because no matter how much I studied, I still did poorly.
He is extremely nice. you just have to read the chapters, and make sure to show up on time. NO RESEARCH PAPER. :)
Salinas is a regular professor who only lives after policies. He does not include a students contribution to the course, which is really sad. I wished he would do that. This way i would have a A or B. His exams extremly hard. He asks for every names, numbers, dates, precentages.etc. Sometimes i thought i am taking history class instead.
He's nice and all but needs to improve teaching skills. Have to take notes and read the book. He can also be a bit touchy and once started screaming in class. Papers you do have to write are fairly easy.
He is nice. You must have to read the tetxbook if you want to get a good grade. No Research Paper!Easy.
He is a very cool teacher, has a great sense of humor & is understanding. His assignments are easy & does give extra credits. In order to receive a good grade, you MUST read the text book. Pay attention in class because 70% of the exam comes from lecture. He is passionate about his job therefore he cares for his students.
Dr. Salinas is awesome. He is a very interesting character who actually makes his lectures very interesting and even funny with his personal life examples. The material is not hard but you do have to read the chapters on your own and I recommend you do mysoc lab testing if you wanna do good in his exams because he gets alot of his questions from it
Dr.Salinas is just G R E A T!!!You just have to Go to class and pay attention to his lectures. He makes it fun!
At first glance I found his class somewhat skeptical, but as the course progressed I found that he is an amazing professor. The only thing hard about his class would be that you have to routinely read the book or you are going to fall behind. He loves to teach and see his students succeed so if you try you will get an A.
Really thought he was an average prof. at first. But as i encountered other profs as college continued, i WISH all my profs were like him. Yes, he is somewhat hard, YES you have to take notes and pay attention, but get over it, its college! This dude makes it fun, challenging and educational. And its always fun to see what bowtie hes gonna wear next
Awesome, awesome, awesome!!! Dr. Salinas is a wonderful professor. Yes you have to come to class, pay attention, read, DUH. His humor is the BEST and makes class so much fun and makes things easier to remember. its too hot for bow ties but he wears them anyway.
Salinas is an awesome guy. His lectures are interesting for the most part and he has a sense of humor. His tests are really tricky and hard so make sure you study EVERYTHING from the book. Other than that, he's awesome.
Great Professor. Very interesting lectures, very involved, gives great examples, super down to earth and funny! To pass his class however you will HAVE to make sure: you attend class, read your book AND do MYSOCLAB. If you don't, you set yourself up to fail. P.S. Make sure to compliment his bowties and don't even look at your phone in class!
His a great teacher, intelligent as well. He is also a Sociologist, he knows his stuff (has a sense of humor too) loved his class.. nice guy
Love Dr. Salinas and his bowties! Great teacher, vry helpful. As long as you take notes in class and do the pre and post tests online, you'll do great. Don't text or chat online in his class, and read your syllabus! He doesn't tolerate late assignments, so if you don't do the paper on time he will not accept it.
Best professor I have had at hcc or University of Houston!! my last class was thursday and i already miss the entertaining lectures. He laughs at rediculous comments from the students when teaching about love, sex, race ect. and i learned alot from this class. Test are hard because they are situational questions. If i could take him again i would!!!!
Very difficult teacher.. Syllabus was incorrect and even with all of the studying you do his tests are near impossible. If you want an A, don't take his class!
He is a really good professor! He makes corny jokes and kinda brags a bit about himself though but tells good stories that go along with the topic. He's interactive and patient with students answers all questions and is willing to help. Definately sticks to the book you need to read and take good notes and the SocioLab reaaaally helps! .. Dont need to take final if you dont want and offers extra credit, I really enjoyed his class :D :D
He is a real Sociologist teaching real collge class. Some of the kids in class still wanted to be "babied" like they were in High School. He bends backwards to help. His reviews answer any questions we might have. But some students were too lazy to ask. I put in a "B" effort and got a "B." Seems fair. I would take him again.
Dr. Salinas teaching style is very ineractive and he appreciates student interaction. Be sure to READ assigned chapters before class lecture, complete on-line assignments and study "chapter tests" in the book. Your written assignments are a great way to increase your grade (counts 20%). I made a A. Apply yourself, study and you will too.
He is so funny and so nice. THis was not the easiest course, but if you go to class and study you do fine. He tries to make it fun for every student in the class, and actually cares if you are doing well!
hes so funny and happy all the time his class is not boring at all. his test come straight from his lectures and probably one or two from the book.
The class was very entertaining. He made it one of my favorite classes to attend. You must study read your book and do the chapter tests. They will definitely help you! He cares if you do well or not in the class so try. The written assignments were super easy as well. If I could take him again I would.
I LOVE THIS HIM!!! He makes class fun in his own way! The book that you have to read is like a giant magazine and is extremely easy to read. Pay attention, read the chapters, do the pretests, comment on his bow ties, and you will get an A. I would recommend taking his class to anyone! You will enjoy it! :)
REALLY ENJOY HIS ALWAYS HAD SOMETHING ENTERTAINING FOR OUR CLASS. STUDY THE QUESTION ON THE BACK OF THE BOOK AND DO YOUR PRE-TEST & POST-TEST KEEP AN INTEREST AND YOULL DO GREAT
Tests are IMPOSSIBLE to get an A on. I would not recommend this professor at ALL.
Dr. Salinas is very funny and keeps the class laughing. He is very interesting and intelligent, keeps the class interested and focused on what's important. He was fair in his grading, I did not think he was easy, but I managed to get an A, and definitely had to study all the course material. I think he is one of the best professors I've ever had.
You have to read the text book to get a good grade on the tests.
very nicest professor and funny but lots of ready and studying to pass his class...
best professors ever....!!!!! i love this class...learned alot. very nice and funny teacher ,made the excited.. .... ....recommended to all students...!!!!!!!!!le :)))))....
Professor Salinas' lectures are interesting and funny. He tells a lot of interesting stories from his own life. He is a very nice person and likes to answer questions. His tests are hard. You have to read the book and study the power points, if you want to do good in his class.
Awesome professor. I genuinely enjoyed his lectures because he always kept them interesting and funny. You must read the book if you want to pass the tests. He does not give out reviews but the class before the test, he will allow everyone to ask one question. Good amount of extra credit. He truly cares for his students and will help you out .
MRS. SALINAS IS A GREAT PROFESSOR
He was so awesome. He was so smart, yet took the time to talk to US. He was funny and easy going. I loved going to his class.
He's ok. Speeches are long but can be fun
I loved this class. I am a vet and get bored easily. This guy kept my attention for an entire 80 minutes. He is big on applying material, so now I see how Society affects me in very powerful ways without us even being aware of it. Take him, you wont regret!
Throughout all my academic years in school, back home (Europe) and here Professor Salinas has been the absolute BEST! I am a math person but I have enjoyed this class so much. The guy knows how to teach! Perfect lectures, funny, cheerful, helpful, extremely smart, yet so down to earth and helpful! Take any of his classes you won't regret it!
he needs more and more canvas training, I will not take his class again ever.
He was a great Professor. I took his hybrid class, lectures are fun and interesting. Test are easy if you read the textbook. He could use more training with Canvas and SociLab.
Salinas is a huge dork which makes class so enjoyable. Easy but READ THE BOOK for tests. Canvas, easy A, not that it matters anyway. One written assignment and Extra Credit. BUT STUDY FOR THE 50 QUESTION EXAMS. The first 2 tests are easy and common sense the rest must study.
He gives weekly assignments on canvas, which he hardly grades but are super easy. He gives one writing assignment. He's really knows a lot about what he is teaching, but you HAVE TO READ THE BOOK if you want to make good grades on his exams. Also provides extra credit assignments since a lot of us really needed it to pass the class.
Excellent Professor. Very smart and very knowledgeable. He knows his field well and makes his lectures very interesting. I looked forward to going to class.
I took a hybrid class with him. I wish it had been a face to face class. His lectures were fabulous. He looks nerdy in his bow ties but is actually pretty funny. I recommend him
I did the work required in the Syllabus and read the book and I got an A. It was pretty cut and dry.
His canvas course has lots of helpful material. It has a detailed chapter outline and the short answer questions are good reviews. I noticed that much of the test was on the PowerPoint slides he had shown in class. Take him for a solid class.
He was one of the best teachers I ever had. But he makes you work for your grade. His lectures are very interesting. I found that he covers about 80% of the test materials on the PowerPoint slides. He is firm and doesn't let student's get away with stuff. I could tell this pissed off some of the younger student. I would like to take another cla
You do have to read the book. But if you use all the extra material on Canvas the test are not too hard. I wish I could take another class from him.
Awesome intelligent professor. I genuinely enjoyed his lectures because he always kept them interesting and funny. Most students did not get his jokes, You must read the book if you want to pass the tests. He does not give out reviews but the class before the test, he will allow everyone to ask one question. He truly cares about his students
His Canvas page was very well put together. It was easy to use. He has so much knowledge about Sociology. I can't believe he has relationships with the people that are referenced in the text. I loved this course and can't to take another course from him. I looked forward to his class.
I took his 5 week summer class. His lectures are so interesting, and he is engaged with the class. As long as you do your work, it is not hard to get an A.
I loved his class. We used Eagle On-line to get to Connect. Assignments were straight forward. His lectures are amazing and funny. He should be a Stand-Up. When I asked questions, I felt like he really listened to me.
His lectures were captivating. But follow the syllabus. He was tough but fair. I would take him again.
Quizzes & tests are easy if you just read!
such an amazing professor. i took a hybrid class, 4 exams, 12 quizzes, and some assignment which are all online and googleable. 2 short answers essay 2 pages length. i recommend him if you want to pass with easy A. no textbook required. lectures are available through eagle online. very knowledgeable professor. take him and U won't regret.
He is the most horrible teacher that I ever have. He is so intolerant to student's errors. I was reading all the syllabus and course instruction to be prepared for the semester and without intention I opened the first test and closed it. I am a new student and I'm not familiar with hybrid type of class. I explained it to him and he didn't care.
Enjoyed his class. A lot of the work was done online and all of his tests where online. Just make sure you turn in your work on time because he DOES NOT accept late work. He was funny and made a lot of the things relatable and easy to remember.
Professor Salinas was a great online teacher. I am going to take another that he teaches in sociology. That how much I respect him. The course and his syllabus was was easy to follow. You should pass with no problem if you do the work. He will answer your emails
I took this course as a 5 weeks summer course. This instructor is not fair to students by changing the syllabus and putting a very limited time to the exams. He gives only 60 minutes for a 60 questioned exam. The homework only impacts your grade 5% whereas the exams impact 60%. These are very unfair percentages. I would not recommend him to anyone.
Professor Salinas asks for a lot of participation from students. He will pick on a student if no one answers a question and will not move on until that student has answered. His class was done on canvas and exams were 60 questions with only a 60 minute time frame. A lot of homework and reading involved as well.
Dr. Salinas is a professional. He likes students to come prepared for class. It is sad that the students here do not read and make fools of themselves. I enjoyed the readings and got a lot out of his lectures. I plan to go to university. He taught me so much. Thank you.
SOCI 2301 Marriage & Family Summer Mini (3wk) session was awesome! Dr. Salinas is very organized, modules are well put together and the course is basically reading-taking quiz each chapter-taking 4 exams total ALL on McGraw-Hill Connect. Everything is open and accessible from day 1, so you can finish it as early as you want. I completed in 2wk.
Dr. Salinas is an awesome professor, any bad reviews for Sociology just means they didnt read the chapters. Everything is in the book, just read and youll do fine. He also gives extra credit for the eagle online survey with participation of at least 75%.
Pay attention to the lectures and you'll be fine.
Doesn't respond to emails, a tough grader for short answer essays. Would not take again.
I took Dr. Salinas class for Fall 2020 online and his outline is very straight forward. Two essays, 4 Exams including the Final, and each Chapter comes with a practice assessments which helps for the exams. All you have to do is read, essay and the exams are your major grade and if you do the survey he gives you extra points. Recommended!!!
Professor Salinas was an awesome professor. He responds to emails promptly, he is quite funny and was very reasonable with the course work. I was able to talk to him outside of the actual meetings even though it was an online class. He has multiple interesting stories to tell. He did not just read off a PowerPoint. I RECOMMEND HIM 110%!!!
Hes pretty cool and funny. His lectures are sometimes interesting but super long!!! And he gives sooooo much work so if you dont like doing much work dont take his class. He is a tough grader. And sometimes hes late to class. Hes not super considerate. But overall dont take his class too much work.
Very organized test are with lockdown browser doesn't ask much of you just do the work
Took for the spring semester. Easy A. best class I have ever taken. Only 2 short answers( one paragraph, full-page) must follow directions but it's very simple and you have a lot of topics to choose from and you can use the same short answer for the second one. Everything else is on connect, but Quizlet is very helpful. Passed class with a 98.
super easy just do all ur modules on time
His lectures are amazing. I actually looked forward to Mondays and Wednesdays. The examples he uses for the concepts are very current. He also knew several of the theorists we discussed personally! Awesome experience.
He was such an amazing professor. i took a hybrid class, 4 exams, 12 quizzes, and some assignment which are all online and googleable. 2 short answers essay 2 pages length. He grades them very thoroughly. . i recommend him. Textbook is part of the software. He is a very knowledgeable and kind professor. take him and U won't regret.
Dr. Salinas was an awesome professor. He responds to emails promptly, he is quite funny and was very reasonable with the course work. I talked to him outside of the actual meetings even though it was an online class. He did not just read off a PowerPoint. He is hilarious! I needed to take a test early and he opened it! I RECOMMEND HIM 110%!!!
Professor Salinas does ask for participation from students. He wants us to be involved in the learning process. His class was done on canvas and exams were 60 questions with only a 60 minute time frame this is to keep students from googling the answers. There are two essays which he carefully grades. A friend recommended him and I recommend him!
Dr Salinas does change the syllabus for our benefit and gives plenty of notice! If the time is too short for tests, you can request to take them in testing center. He is very flexible and fair! I would recommend him to anyone who wants to learn! .
I just wonder who these students are talking about. He was so caring to help students. He replied during regular business hours, not 24/7! If you followed the clear instructions and did the work, it was easy to get an A!
Dr Salinas is a pretty laid back individual throughout the semester. Come time for mid-terms and Finals he will be expecting your best foot forward... Very sharp Ivy league professor.. If you are a B.S'er, or Slacker he has no problem failing you.
SOCI 2336 session was awesome! Dr. Salinas is very organized, modules are well put together and the course is basically reading-taking quiz each chapter-taking 4 exams total ALL on McGraw-Hill Connect. Everything is open and accessible from day 1, so you can finish it as early as you want. I completed in 2wk.
easy A, 100s, test could be find on quizlet. everything was good but i did not like that he did not open all the assignments, but that's okay because his work could be done in like less than an hour.
I looked forward to attending this class. My older sister had him and recommended him! I saw why! During the lecture you feel like you are transformed to a very safe where you learn a lot! I loved his examples. It was almost like talking to a neighbor! I use the stuff from his class every day! He replied to emails quickly and politely! Take him
The schedule is laid out in Canvas and Connect. He is pretty strict about deadlines. But knowing that, I asked to open some assignments early and he did! He made you feel like you were important to him. It is obvious that he really enjoys teaching. I have recommended him to my friends. He is totally down with LGBTQ community.
This instructor is very fair to students. When he had to change the syllabus he let us know several times. He gives only 60 min for a 60 questioned exam, but he has option to take it in the testing center. Students google the answers with too much time. The SB assignment was a guaranteed 100%, made it a 5% curve. I wish more teachers like him.
Dr. Salinas was awesome! The course was clearly laid out! He replied promptly to emails. He also was always polite and respectful. I did my work and got an A! I had a friend who tried to make up his tests at the end of the semester and was not allowed to! He is used to getting away with tactic with others. Dr. Salinas has standards.
He is pretty cool and funny. His lectures are super interesting!!! And he gives the right amount of work and is always seeking feedback. He is a through grader. I learned more from him than my English class. He is super considerate. But overall take his class for a great experience.
He was awesome. He was very caring and flexible. I loved his lectures. He was brilliant and just knew so much! I was amazed at the people he knew. He knew many of the movers and shakers! He was very funny. His jokes were typical Dad Jokes! Most students did not get his humor. He said, "Does Pavlov ring a bell?" I was the only one who got it!
He wants us to be involved in the learning process, very inclusive. His class was done on canvas and Connect. The 4 exams has 60 questions with only a 60 min limit, this is to keep students from googling the answers. There are 2 essays which he carefully grades. I learned grammar from this. A relative really recommended him and I also do!
Dr. Salinas is the best teacher I have ever had. He tells funny stories about the material during class and is extremely graceful if you miss an assignment. He is easy to reach outside of class and is not a tough grader. I felt he genuinely cared about all of us. If he taught every subject I would take him, absolute pleasure being in his class.
Course was quite easy and understandable. He is very outgoing, gives out instructions when needed, explains everything, gives a week for assignments, exams are worth a big percent of your grade. Assignments are understandable, take notes in class and there will be no issues He's also very easy to talk to, need help he's there for any questions.
Dr. Salinas is the best teacher I have ever had. I hated school pretty much all my life and having him in this class changed my perspective on the entire education system. If he taught every subject I would take all his classes. He asks for feedback from us constantly!
Professor Salinas did such an amazing job with this course. I never felt rushed on any of the assignments and he always made it clear how he is willing to help students succeed in this course. I would like to take another class from him.!
Dr. Salinas is amazing, his lectures are not boring and he makes them very dynamic. I looked forward to hearing his lectures. He is very passionate about this subject that he teaches. The exams are easy and based on the book. His homework serves as reviews for the tests. TAKE. HIM.
SOCI 1301 was awesome! Professor Salinas is very organized. You can he has experience. The course is basically reading a chapter, then taking a quiz for each chapter-and 4 unit exams total! This is ALL on McGraw-Hill's Connect. The entire course is available from first day. I strongly recommend him for Sociology.
He was extremely flexible. You could tell that this was his passion. I hated to miss his lectures. They were so captivating that I would not notice how fast the time went. I am recommending him to my friends.
He was the best professor I have had. My class thought so too. The class has: 4 exams, 12 quizzes, and two short answers essays 2 pages length. He does grade them very thoroughly. The text is part of the software available on first day. He is a very knowledgeable and caring professor. I strongly recommend that you take him and you won't regret it
Took the 3-week criminology mini session. The entire course is on McGraw Hill Connect and just consists of 12 SmartBook assignments & quizzes, 4 exams, and 2 short-answer essays. Everything is available on day one, and you can easily finish the course early if you frontload a bit. Very easy class if you know how to utilize your resources.
SOCI 1301 was an awesome course! Dr. Salinas is very intelligent. He has much experience in the classroom. The course consists of reading a chapter, then doing some assignments for each chapter-and then four unit exams over three chapters!l! All this work is on McGraw-Hill's Connect which is very user friendly! I strongly recommend taking him!
My friend recommended him. I am glad I took the recommendation. As soon as he walked into the room, there was energy! He was very approachable after class too! I actually looked forward to attending this class. A friend took him on-line! I told her you do not know what you are missing. I learned a lot about how Society affects us.
Best Professor. Amazing lectures. Very Passionate! Take him before he retires
You will hardly find professors passionate about their subjects. Dr Salinas is one of them. He's caring, respectful, and gives great lectures. BUT do pay attention and participate, because he will snap at you for not participating. He kept saying to this guy from day first till the last "WHY DO YOU COME TO CLASS?" lol He's a great teacher. Take Him
Dr. Salinas was amazing! His lectures were engaging and he always seemed so passionate when teaching & sharing his experiences. He likes when the class participates & sometimes picks on people when no one answers, so as long as you don't sit directly in front of him you should be fine lol. Definitely take him if you can, I think he's retiring soon.
When he walked into the classroom, you could feel his energy! He is so happy being a professional sociologist and Professor. This happiness show in his lectures. I brought a friend to hear him and she was also impressed. I am learning so much about how society affects us without us even being aware of it
If your semester is mostly free take this professor although its alot of work its so simple and easy the only problem I ever faced was with the short essay questions but it didn't matter as it wasn't worth a whole lot to the overall grade.
He was understanding about personal matters that may have affected my online work. When grading the short essays, he provided no feedback and grammar really deducted points despite my proofreading with Grammarly. He also took more than a month to grade one of my essays which was somewhat scary for me since they were worth 30% of the final grade.
Professor Salinas is very insightful in sociology topics & answers any questions asked in class. He has a lot of patience as well. My essay was graded with lots of comment within hours of my submitting it. I looked forward to going to this class. He also brought us snacks regularly. No other Professor has done that. He is also very funny.
I took this class in person and it's impacted me very much. I always appreciate my conversations with Professor Salinas after class. It's amazing to apply my learning to how society is functioning in real time. I loved his stories and the tricks he plays on his wife. He is so funny and explained why humor was important in society. I recommend him.
I appreciated that the assignments and lectures went hand in hand in a timely manner. The course was very well structured! He replied to emails and graded assignment very quickly. I looked forward to going to this class. But do not use use your phone during class. He has soccer cards he uses. Yellow warning and Red leave! But he only warned.
The course was organized very well, making it very clear to me on the things that i needed to work on. I am thrilled I took this and strongly recommend him.
Everyone should take this professor. In this course, the independence and deadlines were effective in helping me learn. Going in, knowing what specific chapters were to be read and what specific assignments were to be completed by what particular date and being offered PowerPoints and chapter overviews was of great use.
Overall this class was the best experience and I really appreciate my professor who is so passionate about his work even he can retire. He was working for like 10% of his pay! It shocked me because in India people want to retire asap between 50-60. He was very polite and funny. I looked forward to coming to class.
My essay was graded with many comments quickly. Dr. Salinas is very insightful on sociology topics & answers any questions asked in class. He has a lot of patience for those who need it. I looked forward to going to this class. He also brought us snacks regularly. No other Professor has done that. He is very humorous. My family liked his jokes.
This professor is a delight - engaging lectures, clear expectations, and quick feedback. The work is manageable if you stay on top of it. unstuckstudy was super helpful for study prep.
Professor Luis is a sweet teacher, he talks a lot it can be interesting and a little boring, but he is sweet and understanding if you're having issues at all. Every week he gave at least 5 assignments and they're usually an hr long each.
Professor Salinas is GREAT professor. The class is very essay, all your work is online, and Quizlet will help you pass the class. He talks a lot but it's interesting what he says, he has a lot of stories to share. no work in class, just online. this an easy A or B class, no reason to fail this class. NO PHONES IN CLASS. He is understanding.
Overall a great professor, his class is fairly easy if you pay attention to the lectures and there aren't very many assignments. Only 2 short essays and some quizzes/exams throughout the semester, and he's very fair when it comes to grading them. Would absolutely recommend.
He was awesome. Teaching Sociology is obviously his passion. His lectures were so good I hated to miss them. They were so captivating that I would not notice how fast the time went. I would use his jokes with my family and friends. I am recommending him to my friends. He is retiring soon. Do not delay.
Dr. Salinas did an outstanding job with this course. He was obviously very happy with his job! I never felt rushed on any of the assignments, and he consistently made it clear to us that he was there to help us succeed. His support and clarity made a real difference in my learning experience. I would gladly take another class with him!"
This was the worst professor I have had during my entire associates. I had gotten frustrated with him for having so many technical difficulties and being unable to communicate properly in regard to fixing it. He began to harass me on a personal, degrading level and only stopped when I got his department head to make him. He said disgusting things.
The McGraw Hill Connect was not properly linked to our class at the beginning and it took him over a week to get it fixed. He tried to tell us we were the ones that needed to call IT when we were all having the same problem. He is not very fast to respond to messages. Otherwise class was easy and fine after the first week problems.
He was very clearly a caring, generous, and intelligent person and conveyed it through his lectures. The class was easy and I genuinely enjoyed going to his class. As a dual credit student, he treated me as he did the rest of the older students and I learned a lot through his course. You should definitely take him, trust.
He was very unorganized
Very passionate and understanding. Gentle and fair. Very seasonal holidays and comedy. -Nelson
