I definitely have a better understanding of how the economy works, and the class ran very smoothly.
Very passionate about what he teaches which helps make the class more interesting. I feel like I learned a lot and am more interested in what's going on in the economy. Tests were moderately difficult, but there were no surprises. Nobody likes surprises. Overall great.
The class was interesting and I actually enjoyed it. He presented all material efficiently and clearly. There were never any surprises on exams, which was nice. Overall, he was a really good teacher.
His class is quite hard but helpful. Overally, he is a good guy and uses a lot of current economic events as class materials to help students understand what he is teaching. Basically, Attending each class and jotting down what he says and writes on the board are good enought to handle his every exams. I strongly recommend people to take his class.

i was dreading taking this class. i was doing it for dual credit for high school, and was scared because it was a college class and all. But it turned out to be really fun, and quite easy. He used easy to understand examples, and involved the class a lot. very aproachable.
His class can be complicated. He teaches verbally with some use of the whiteboard. He tends to speak fast and can be hard to understand at times, especially if the concepts are new to you. However, he will paraphrase concepts during class and is willing to help students. I advise you to record his lectures and of course, take notes.
If you are interested in economics or just need to find something to fill up your semester, this professor's Macro and Micro classes are phenomenal. You only have to listen to what he says in class and you will have an easy A. Grading is very easy, homework can be done and turned in in groups and for each person in the group you get 5 extra points.
OPPORTUNITY
Professor Armstrong really cares about what he is teaching which makes it a great class! He really wants you to do well. The homework he assigns really helps on tests.
Do not take this course with Professor Armstrong online. He has you do homework off of the Pearson website which is not related to the test questions WHAT SO EVER that you have to test for in ACC testing center. He does not give chances. If you are on top of your stuff, self dedicated, and have prior knowledge of this course, you should be fine.
Great professor! He cares about what he is teaching and provides lots of materials related to the real world. Strongly recommend people take his class, you will learn a lot and get a better understanding of the economy. The exam is easy if you do the homework.
Straight up, if you just listen to his instructions, follow his review and take the effort to do the mandatory work, you'll easily have an A. highly recommend recording lectures as its straightforward for whats expected on the test. best professor I've had in years.
He's a great professor; relates the lecture to everyday life, makes you think about how everything is connected plus he's hilarious. Tests are reasonably difficult but he goes over the content in detail and gives you the tools to success. Easy on the eyes. Don't take his class if you're easily offended.
Professor Armstrong was an amazing teacher... he cares about the topic and is actually genuinely interested in his students learning. His test reviews are exactly what is going to be on the exam. Do not skip class you will be behind. Put in the effort and you will get the grade you deserve.
Professor Armstrong is by far the best professor I had in the Spring '18 semester. IF YOU COME TO CLASS, YOU WILL SUCCEED. Tests are based off of material presented in lecture. Not much reading of the actual textbook so don't consider it "required". Homework OPTIONAL as it adds extra credit to the 4 tests taken. GREAT DUDE. NO CELL PHONES.
took his 6 week online course for ECON 2301. 5 tests, 5 homeworks, 5 extra credit opportunities. Read the chapters and do the homework's and you will be fine on the tests. Homeworks are long, anywhere from 75-100 questions but you have unlimited attempts. Extra credit is a discussion board each week that can give you 4% on a test. Easy A
The hardest class I have ever taken at ACC. I would not take this class online. You are not provided a study guide, and you have to test at the test center. You have 5 tests, 50 questions each, and a discussion board post that's optional for 4% extra credit for each exam. DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE!
Awesome Professor! the information is somewhat difficult, but he does a wonderful job at using real life examples to help you better understand.
Most genuine professor I ever had! He is hilarious and uses a lot of real-life examples that help you understand the material. Definitely would recommend and I'm going to take him again for ECON-2301. P.S There is OPPORTUNITY
Do not take this class online - extremely hard. I do not even feel like I had a teacher only heard from him the first week of class. Read the chapters the take the exams at the testing center 50 questions. Very tough class...
Well organized online course, pretty averge amount of work, pretty challenging content (it's econ). Straightforward grading - 5 HW (unlimited attempts to get correct), 5 exams (same material as the HW, but must take at testinng center), 5 extra credit discussions. Responds quick to emails, reaches out every few weeks with progress updates.
I took his online Macro Economics class and really had to work for it. It wasn't easy, but he helped me so much. He would email back and forth with me while I was prepping for tests, and he really tried to make sure I understood. I still had trouble with the material, but I really appreciated Prof Armstrong taking the time to help me where I was.
Dude is very strict about due dates. All assignments available at beginning of the semester so you can work ahead but he gives no second chances if you miss a due date. Double check your calender! I mixed up a due date and ended up with zero on the assignment that almost cost me my semester.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE, especially if you are unfamilar with the content. This is a very difficult class and you should take it in a classroom setting to get a better grasp of the content. I am rating the professor as an online professor only. It would be best if he recorded presentations for his online classes. He does give videos to watch
I liked him. He is very strict on deadlines. He is helpful if you reach out to him. I took Macro online with him and I wouldn't recommend unless you are good at looking at a textbook and understand the material instantly. The only reason I passed is because of the HW. I can tell he would be good in person. He is also very organized.
One of the best professors I ever had, Took him for both Macro and Micro and he is really approachable and friendly. Really passionate guy. You do have to fully understand concepts and there is alot of HW(optional) but the HW gives you extra 5-7 points towards test so I do recommend doing them. If you can take him for both Macro & Micro.
Hands down one of the best professors I've ever had. He has the best analogies and is constantly keeping you engaged with jokes. The class was test heavy but if you do the homework and go to office hours (even if it's just for a stupid question) you will do well in the course. He's a very personable, caring guy and likes hardworking students.
When I bombed the first test, Prof Armstrong was very encouraging and gave me helpful tips. My test grades rose over the course of the class and I finished with a B. He gives great feedback and is available for any questions. You can tell he cares about what he is teaching. I recommend him, he is a great professor and a great guy.
I can't speak for this professor's normal classes but his online class is extremely difficult. This content is very difficult to learn and your resources are limited. Personally I found the textbook to be lengthy and confusing and while he does provide you with supplemental videos they aren't very helpful. I don't recommend taking the online class.
Prof. Armstrong replied quickly to emails and was helpful when I had questions. Economics is hard, and this course is textbook heavy. You have to be disciplined, as this is an online course, but if you work hard, the prof. will work with you. Extra credit opportunities (in the form of unit discussion boards) was offered. Overall, good class.
ECON is hard no matter what, but this course wasn't bad. Decent amount of reading, but very organized and clear content, assignments. All assignments available at the beginning which allowed me to complete the entire course in only half of the semester and focus on my other courses. Professor is very responsive/supportive, unlike many online profs.
by far one of the best professors at ACC. I always struggled with economics in highschool but he makes it so easy to understand and even fun to learn. also, he is hilarious. always had the class laughing during every lecture. Homework is optional for extra credit on exam but u get to do it w/ a group. easy A if you show up for class.
I took the DL class and enjoyed it. Theres no final, but 5 unit tests each over 4 chapters. You have to go to a testing center to take the test. As long as you read and do the hw you should be fine. I took this class while also being a fulltime student at UT and still managed to get an A, just stay on top of things. Prof responded quick&I liked him
Took this class DL. Econ is hard subject, and so tests are hard, but as long as you do the homework and read the textbook (easy to read text) you'll be fine. 5 tests, 4 units, 4 online assignments. Definitely challenging, but all online econ classes are pretty difficult, and Armstrong responds to emails quick.
You are graded solely on the exams, the lectures are essential to passing this class. He is very passionate about what he teaches and allows you extra credit to add to the exams. I got a 79 on the first exam and still managed an A. Theres a ton of note taking but you are actually learning. Definitely recommend
Very passionate professor, he truly loves what he teaches. This class is difficult so if you cant attend every class you might as well drop, the lectures are heavy and you take your own notes and those notes are crucial to passing the exams. He is super helpful.
Professor Armstrong is incredible. He is passionate about economics and knows how to teach the subject well. If you have the chance to take him, do it. In addition, he provides a lot of opportunities for extra credit.
He was great! Hes very passionate and keeps you entertained, which was awesome! He gives a homework packet for each unit that is not mandatory to do but can help you practice and give a preview of what the test could include and it gives you extra credit on the test!
Professor Armstrong is one of the best professor I've ever had. He cares about his students and goes the extra mile to help them succeed. His lectures were clear and when the course went online (because of COVID-19) he helped us as much as possible. I really enjoyed his class and would ABSOLUTELY take from him again. Amazing professor!!!
Took the DL class, got a 70 on one of the tests but still got an A. The professor responds pretty quickly, usually within 20 min or so, and is helpful if you have questions. Do the extra credit, it doesn't take long and makes a pretty huge difference because tests are weighted heavily
Literally the worst professor at ACC. His exams are multiple choice A-E for every question 50 questions. The questions are trick questions with the answers all being relatively the same. Sure he offers extra credit, 4 points to your exam grade, because he knows his exams are insane. The answers on the homework are nothing like the exam. DONT TAKE!
This is my first semester going back to school. I feel ripped off because the "lecture" videos were YouTube and Khan Academy videos, that I can watch for free. He couldn't be bothered to make his own lecture videos. The homework had a lot of good questions but didn't prepare me for the exams at all. Would email me with updates that felt patronizing
I've heard his lectures are fantastic, but campuses were closed due to covid. This was well organized asynchronous online course. Clear structure and assignments. Responds quickly to email. Reaches out periodically with updates/tips/encouragement. Would have prefered being in person, but appreciated the flexibility of the course schedule.
Dont waste your time with this professor. Completely unwilling to help or even do his job. Just another name attached to a class as you're sent to go read a textbook for 100% of your material. No teaching from the professor whatsoever. If you want someone who is never gonna update blackboard and in no way going to be helpful, this is the class.
Took the 5-week online course. One test per week (each 50 multiple choice questions), but they're open note. Extra credit offered in the form of a discussion board each week. Homework assignments were long but with infinite attempts to get a 100. Overall easy, but make sure to read the entire reading, take good notes, and do the homework fully.
Great Prof that will respond to you and provide lots of materials.
Professor Armstrong is the clearest Asynchronous distance learning professor I have ever had! He assigns straightforward homeworks and tests, but you MUST READ the textbook to understand the content. He provides handy resources so it's a win-win situation. You can't go wrong as long as you put some effort trying in the class.
The only way of learning in the class was reading textbook and videos that just showed the exact same pages from the textbook. There were so many questions on the homework and we had a very short amount of time to complete it. You had to be watched while taking the exams no matter where/how you were taking it.
Most straightforward DIL teacher I had. Actually purchase a textbook (an older edition on Amazon is cheaper) and you will be fine; dont believe anyone who says not to get a textbook. The homework, although long, nicely prepares you for the test. If you have common sense this class will be a piece of cake. Professor Armstrong is awesome!
Don't take. 5 units/tests/HWs - each test is 25% of your grade and each HW 5%. The HWs are 100+ questions long, takes hours to go through each chapter. Gotta pay $100 just to access the HW. Only passed because I basically rewrote the textbook videos into my notes 4 tests. Ditto on the patronizing emails + exam recording, didn't learn anything in DL
Clear and organized online course. Expects students to be disciplined. Do the readings, pay attention to the learning objectives, complete and review the homework, take lots of notes (you can use on exams), and do the extra credit discussion boards. Responds quickly to emails, so ask questions. Earned an A without an A's on exams.
There is no final just 5 exams. The 5th exam can lower your lowest exam grade! After each exam, there is an extra credit opportunity which definitely helps. This class is self-taught but if there are any questions, he will reply to your email fast. I'm not sure how it is in person but this is how it was for me online and I enjoyed it
Professor Armstrong was a solid professor. Only 5 tests, no final. And each test had a homework with it that you have to do when you pay his textbook from pearson. He gives 4 point extra credit for each test at the end of it. Would take again!
Avoid this guy if you want to understand, and cherish your GPA. This was an online class where he doesnt even post a single video explaining the content, instead he expects you to buy the text book that he actually helped publishing. The book is a joke, they are better resources such as khan academy that does a better job actually the explaning.
His teaching methods are pointless, whats the point of having a teacher if he doesnt post any material or videos explaining the content. Instead he makes you a read a text book that is complete garbage and expect you to know the content. Seriously stay away from his class take another professor that actually explains the material.
Terrible. Forces you to read a poorly written textbook and immediately become a professional in economics. He doesn't actually do anything to help you understand any of the material. Gives no study guides for the 100+ Homework questions or 50 Exam questions. The class is a complete joke and will only screw your GPA. Please don't take this class.
To be completely honest the class probably isn't that difficult to get an A or B in but the overall layout of the course makes it harder than it needs to be. The homework is supposed to be practice for the tests but it often seems like 20% of the questions on tests aren't covered. it's definitely an easy pass if that's what you're looking for.
Took a bit to get used to asynchronous course, but ended up appreciating the flexibility. Course is organized well with clear expectations. Focus on the learning objectives when doing the reading, homework, and taking notes (which you can use on exams). Fully complete the homework and do the extra credit discussions. Exams aren't too bad.
FINAL GRADE: 5 exams, 5 HWs, and Discussion Boards(Xtra Credit). This class was difficult bc the wording in the book was SO hard to understand, and his videos are monotone(sorry!). I didn't pass 2 tests BUT he takes your last test & replaces a lower test; doing so bumped me a B in his class. Do the DB for 4 extra points on your test, they're easy.
Took him at Hays campus and loved it. Passionate, entertaining, high but clear expectations, makes the learning apply to real world. Good opportunities to earn grades. Definitely talks fast though. Friend took him online and said it was very much self-paced with lots of independent learning. Organized, clear and fair, just not as enjoyable she said
Amazing professor. Makes content applicable to the real world. Thorough, fair, easy to understand, keeps students engaged. If I ever have the opportunity to learn under professor Armstrong again, I definitely will.
Very difficult with the exam answers not matching up to the easier homework. The textbook is confusing especially with the graphing. The extra credit only adds up to 4% and will bring down your GDP.
Perfect example of what an asynchronous online course should be. Concise assignments and clear due dates and expectations. Well thought out study guide and multiple forms of presenting the material that were helpful and relevant to the objectives. Exam questions clearly tied to the learning objectives.
My favorite professor in college so far by a large margin. Makes lectures entertaining and applicable to the real world. Breaks complex material down into relatable learning. Very transparent about what is going to be on exams and how they are graded. Gives in-class activities and extra credit homework that is good preparation for the exams.
Too much readings. Basically self taught. I heard his in person classes were awesome but not online. Don't take him online!
Dont take the online course
There is so much information to study, lockdown browser with camera so people with test anxiety be aware this will trigger a panic attack. If you have a full time job or are a full time student, he teaches as if we are at a University not a community college, and does not realize there is life other than economics. Would not recommend.
I've seen some people complain, but his online course is very clearly organized - it just requires a decent amount of reading and homework. He's helpful and supportive. He's just not a hand holder and expects students to be responsible. If you are disciplined and have good time management, it's not hard to do well in his class. I take him again.
Lenient grader! Helps you if you ask. His learning objective charts make clear connections between HW, reading & exams. Don't let the multi-choice fool you, he designed a critical thinking course not a memorization class. Self-paced, reading heavy, with few graded items, so you have to be motivated to put in the time and old-fashioned studying.
This is a complete do it yourself course. He gives you the concepts to read each week up front, learning objectives & homework usually 70 questions & above. Do the extra credit discussion boards. It will help in the end & have homework completed to 100%. Test are worded tricky, but drops lowest grade for the last exams grade. Barley passed.
5 units, each with homework, exam, and discussion board. HW fairly long, but unlimited attempts to get 100. Discussion board is easy points, just need to do it. Exams are challenging and largely critical thinking, but clearly tied to learning objectives and the weighting makes it easy to still earn a good grade without doing great on exams.
His in person classes made me actually enjoy learning the subject. It is very test heavy as there's only four grades in the class and each is an exam. He does offer extra credit through homework and you get even more points on it if you work in groups. DO THE HOMEWORKS. They are a great study guide for each exam. Can be a picky grader at times.
No phones in class, says no more than 3 absences but is flexible. Communicate. Amazing lectures, funny guy
The best professor I have ever had, I did not need to take ECON 2302 but I did because Luke Armstrong is so good. If you go to class and listen you will do just fine. The grades come entirely from tests but they are very easy. I can not recommend this professor enough.
Took this his micro & macro class. Great professor, hw isn't mandatory but if you complete it you can use them as extra credit point on exams. He doesn't allow phones in class, but overall such and easy and caring professor.
I took this course as a first course back to college in s few years, and my first ever online college experience. He added exam curves, which were super beneficial, open note tests, tricky wording on the exams, and it's graded heavily by the 5 exams. He easy to access by email, and was always polite with me.
Professor Armstrong is the best teacher I've EVER had! He's extremely passionate about economics and it shows through his lectures. I was engaged in every class and never felt bored. He adds extra credit points from the homework assignments (not mandatory) and attendance to every exam! I earned 14-17 extra credit points on each of the 4 unit exams!
DO NOT TAKE HIS ONLINE COURSE!
Good organized course. 5 modules, each with readings, optional videos, discussion board, homework, and exam all available immediately. Pay attention to the learning objectives he writes as that is what is on the exam. Flexible with due dates for the homework/discussions, but rigid for exams (but also basically gives a free pass for one exam).
This professor was very good, he responded to emails quickly if you needed help. His tests weren't too hard since they were open book, so if you copy the notes from the HW and put them on a doc it will help you get good grades on the test. Test grades were easy to fix if you messed up a little. Only problem was large HW assignments.
Uses Pearson which is great for studying. But fairly simple and straightforward class.
Your grade is made up of 4 exams, but you get extra credit for attendance/completing homework. Very engaging lectures. He makes topics easy to understand. Would recommend!!
2nd time taking a class from this professor. His in-person classes are incredible and he has a way of teaching that is very visual and easy to understand. His online class is harder, but if you enjoy reading and doing online practice, you will succeed. You can tell he really cares about ECON, some teachers are perfect at their job and this is one.
Very nice guy and is not harsh on grading. There will be group homework which will be extra credit added to the exam and you also get credit for attendance. Very funny and caring and makes sure that everyone understands. The work is average, book was not needed but there might be reading a few chapters to understand the concept before class.
I've had many professors in the past who simply didn't care about what they were lecturing on. Having someone like Professor Armstrong, who's truly passionate about what he teaches, along with being passionate about teaching itself, made learning the material much more interesting and easier to absorb. Great professor and class overall!
Taking ECON 1301, this class was a total of 16 weeks, but the professor made the exam, homework and discussion boards due every 3 weeks. Which allows to focus on another harder class. This course is very exam heavy, he will curve exam grades, and is easily accessible outside of class. You will access the textbook on Pearson. But overall easy class!
One of my favorite professors ever! Took him back in Spring 2025 and his class convinced me to major in Econ... now I'm at UT Austin!! Amazing and engaging lectures. Homework assignments are extremely similar to exams. They're optional extra credit but are basically necessary to do well on the exams IMO. Grades are HEAVILY curved.
