took his online 8 week class. use the book on everything youll get an A on all tests and the class. grades reading summarys a little strictly but your test scores overshadow them. i got an A fairly easily just study before a test and have book ready during. recommend his online phil class for sure.
This guy is totally great. He's really funny, young and easy to talk to. He helps out and goes over questions before class if you get there early. He relates philosophic theory to everyday use and will diagram things on the board for further explanation. He uses a PowerPoint notes. You need a scantron and bluebook for all test. Okay, done. :)
Overall, good teacher. Actually listens to students and is passionate about the material.
I took Cuddy for my first online class, and he made the experience AMAZING. The ENTIRE textbook will need to be read, so make sure to keep on top of the reading. 3 quizzes, simple assignments on discussion boards, a midterm and final. Amazing teacher, HIGHLY recommended. I got my hard earned A :]
Online class. Read the book, do the discussion boards, take the quizzes/tests, and there's your A. The class seems easy because Prof. Cuddy structures it well and his typed-up lectures/addendums really help. The fact that the subject is really interesting doesn't hurt either. Highly recommended.
This class is great for the online discussion boards. He asks good questions and starts thought provoking discussions.
Good online class. Do the homework it helps.
Took his online fast-track course. Definitely the class I had to read the most in. Must read the whole textbook. Discussion board every week. Tests every week or so. Would take again though. Professor comments on your exams and discussion board posts every now and then and is also fast to respond to emails and such. Got my hard-earned A !
Wants you to understand and answers questions via email very promptly. Even provides feedback so you have the chance to improve your work.
great instructor!
Great teacher!!! It was nice to finally learn something about Philosophy. It was not easy but worth taking.
You have to read every single word of the textbook. He takes points off for every single little thing, like making an opinionated statement. He must be a younger prof because he doesn't really seem to be involved. He doesn't really get involved in discussions (if you're taking online classes).
His discussions were thought-provoking and his quizzes/exams were fairly easy. Just make sure you skim through the book and read all of his online notes. I'd take him again for another philosophy class if I could.
Took fast track online class, clear helpful professor. Difficult subject, you have to read all the book chapters. Interesting discussions, his comments help you see the topic in a new way.
My brain hurt after this class. Many different concepts to understand. Learned a lot though. Cuddy is a fair grader and very communicative through email.
Took PHI 101 & 120 with professor Cuddy 'cause I like his class so much. He is a great teacher, but there is a lot to read in his class. You will learn a lot too. If you stay on top of assignments and due dates you will do good. Excellent communicator. Highly recommend.
Very interesting discussion topics, a lot of reading but it was insightful. Professor Cuddy cares a lot and will take the time to talk to you about the assignments or anything else.
Tests aren't hard. Participation is chill. He likes to do a lot of open discussions in class. He's funny and really cool. For the final, he gives you the option to write a final paper instead, which is cool if you're a bad test taker.
He is the BEST Philosophy professor ever!!! TAKE HIM for the following reasons: (1) really understanding, (2) wants his students to succeed, (3) goes the extra mile with questions, (4) quick to respond to questions via email, (4) tests are manageable, (5) readings are interesting, (5) gives EXTRA CREDIT, and (6) very personable and knowledgeable:-)
One of the best class and prof. I have tooken at swc. He is ASWESOME!! I love philosophy now, one of my fav. subjects because of him. He could be funny at times and tries to make the class fun which is better then having someone boring, and the group works are really helpful to understand the material. I would deff take another class with him:)!!!!
Professor Cuddy is an excellent professor! He is professional, handsome and very helpful, he really knows his stuff. The grading criteria is very clear, put in legit effort you will do fairly well. He gives quiz's, group work, and belief papers, which are actually quite fun to do. One of the best classes I've taken thus far, I learned a lot!
Overall great professor! He is not intimidating like many professors. He is very helpful in class. I believe students should take this course prier to English 116, simply because if I had taken Phil 103 before Eng 116 I would have done ALOT better. Phil 103 is the core and the basis for Eng 116, in my opinion. Go to class! Put in effort.
Professor Cuddy is an amazing guy. He tells it like it is, there isnt alot of homework. Its either tests or short papers. He will make you think and question your convictions, bhe wants to promote philsophy as understanding there are 2 sides to every argument!!!! Please if you have to take a philosophy class TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very strait forward for a not so strait forward subject. In addition to it being the easiest class I have yet to take, i learned a lot and it was super interesting. didnt need a text book at all, very little reading, tests were very easy. you do a lot of easy in class group work. Looking for an easy A? look no further. zero stress class
Awesome teacher! Must take for philosophy. He curses at times and makes the class interesting. He wants his students to question and think outside the box about everything. He uploads everything you need to know on blackboard. Just study the power points and you will get an A for sure. Dont forget your scantron :)
Professor Cuddy succinctly introduces complex frameworks of moral philosophy and fosters a thought provoking classroom milieu that encourages creative reasoning. This classroom environment organically allows for students to participate with polite, logical, and confident demeanor. Great professor. Great college course.
Amazing professor! Lectures are very interesting and really makes you think. Offers extra credit on your final grade for participation in group work. He's super down to earth and explains the topics really well.
Most understanding and organized professor Ive had. Took his 8 week online class. The discussions are fun to participate in, though pay attention to the rules in the syllabus or you will lose points. Topics can be enlightening and eye opening.
My favorite thing about this class is that theres no textbook to buy he provides all readings online. Grade consists of discussion boards, essay assessments and multiple choice assessments. Do the readings, complete discussions, watch the videos and theres your A. Highly recommended.
This guy is great. Really knows his stuff and should be teaching somewhere better than SWC. His video lectures are entertaining and you really get the impression that he both cares about your understanding of the material as well as the material itself. Would definitely take again.
Professor Cuddy"s online Philosophy 101 class is ideal for anyone who enjoys reading and engaging in discussions. I found his assessments to be difficult but they did not subtract from the overall experience and quality of his lecture. I encourage students to read the optional supplemental material he provides, it made a world of difference for me
Very good!!!
Mr Cuddy is a great professor! He promotes class discussions and lets everyone who wants to talk talk. He does the best to keep the conversation educated and based on the reader but some of the students are ignorant and don't even read. Fair grader.
Prof Cuddy was great and even provides you with the online book for free. Get ready to read but not to worry because all the reading is very interesting. He provides powerpoints, lots of feedback and video lectures for his assessments. His class isn't easy but put in the work and you will succeed. I would definitely recommend taking him.
Cuddy is really laid back but also knows how to clearly teach logic. Lectures can sometimes get boring but they're mostly okay. A lot of group work, 4 exams lowest score dropped, 2 papers, easy grader on papers as long as it fits his outlines. Do the homework and you'll pass exams with an A. Homework and reading is key.
Solid instructor, very engaging and interesting. Can be difficult but if you do the homework and reading you will succeed.
Professor Cuddy is great. Really challenges you in order to become a much more critical thinker. He even writes the course reader which is only $9 and that is the textbook. Couldn't say more great things about this guy based off this semester. Learned more about logic and critical thinking that I would ever imagine, and it was very interesting.
Whether you need the class for credit or just curious about the subject, take it with Professor Cuddy! He gives awesome lectures and explains everything so smoothly. The class consists of lots of freewrites and some reading. The textbook is not expensive and is an easy-read too. This will be an interesting class and easy if you follow instructions.
He give's you bad criticism when you write anything. He just says you're not right and it's never really clear what he wants.
Such a great professor. Definately would take again. You have a total of 3 assesments which are pretty easy if you study your notes. (Not cumulative, woop woop) You do 2 papers.(Worldview and Argument) And do lots of freewrites which are fun. Don't hesitate to take him.
Dr. Cuddy is awesome. He is extremely fair, and if you do the required work you will do great in his class. He is a great communicator and I guarantee if you take a class of his you will want to sign up for another.
He provided the reading materials for this class, clear grader and gives great feedback! Read, study and you will pass!
This is my second time taking Prof. Cuddy I took his 101. He is a really great teacher but you have to work for your grade! His book is about $9 I believe. All classwork and reading are in this reader! Needed for completion of work. It can be overwhelming, it's necessary to study the material. Think critically! One of the best teachers here
The class was alright. He just never seemed consistent on what he was looking for. You could write an answer that he said was great, and then answer the same question on a test in a similar way, and he would say you're wrong. His lectures would often be different than what the book said too.
Extremely knowledgeable and unbiased professor. Thinking back I learned the most from his class out of all my classes this semester. Allows essay rewrites and if you talk to him face to face you will receive very helpful feedback. I would especially recommend him if you're taking an intro to Phil course.
Professor's Cuddy philosophy 103 lecture is one of the most interesting classes I have attended at SWC. Do the homework and show up to class and you will pass.
Easy teacher, Power points straight forward. Make sure to read the course reader and either write or speak in group assignments. Exams based on lecture and easy if u pay attention, lowest exam gets dropped, and u can even write a paper for final. He even offers an extra credit paper. I do not see how anyone can not get an A in the class.
This class was really one of those classes I'd consider retaking just because of the professor! He really cares about the success of students and will work with you if you're ever struggling in his class. The class is always interesting, make sure you volunteer as a writer or speaker for class participation points.
Cuddy is such an amazing professor, I can't remember a time when I was not enjoying myself in this class. He changed the way I view certain things and view the world in general.
Wouldn't recommend. The answer choices for the assessments are all too similar that it's basically a trick question. Discussion boards are the easier part of his class. You can read the material in the book all you want and do the HW and classwork. But once you do the assessment, it's different.
Cuddy does a really great job at teaching a difficult subject. He is always happy to help you out and it is clear he knows what hes talking about. But his online class is not an easy A, definitely makes you work for the grade and requires that you engage with the topics.
Prof. Cuddy's online summer class was fun & very interesting! Learned a lot, and appreciated the DB feedback that he would leave to help clarify ideas. There are weekly DBs and 4 big tests (25 questions on each), w/your lowest score getting dropped. Class was a little too easy, otherwise, no complaints. Would love to take an in-person class of his.
Cuddy is a very good professor. His topics are easy to get into and he makes sure his students understand. Every class starts with a freewrite, where he'll give us a topic to write about for the first five minutes. It's important to participate in this class, because a small portion of your grade depends on how often you participate.
Amazing professor who cares about his students. The only thing that troubled me in the class were the assessments. The questions were extremely tricky and took a toll on my grade. I turned all the assignments in but the assessments brought my grade down. Aside from that, I learned a lot from this class.
Professor Cuddy is an amazing professor. I always looked forward to his class. Not only is he clear and understanding but he also respects you as a student. You use one booklet and no text book. However, I wouldn't recommend this class if you don't like reading. Easy A if you do your work and readings.
Pure excellence! Bravo Professor Cuddy. You have inspired me to change my major from English to Philosophy. I now work as a tutor in the ASC, and Cuddy recommended me. I will always take what I learned from him throughout my college experience. He truly thought me how to compose an academic argument.
The worst lecturer I've ever had. The reading materials and Assessment are not the same. Professor would not disclose to you the result of your quiz. How then would you know which questions you got correctly and which ones you failed? Extra Credit is not worth it. Too Stingy on his score. WOULD NEVER TAKE ANY OF HIS CLASSES AGAIN!
This man is difficult!! Assessments are hard and confusing. I read 5x's and still wouldn't reflect on test. Majority of the class was asking for help on discussions to improve their grade. This class content was interesting it was just professor cuddy who didn't give the proper materials to help us succeed. Take someone else's class!
He's an amazing teacher who is easy to understand and is passionate about his work. You have to participate a lot, but he gives constructive feedback. Just make sure to show up every day, he's big on attendance.
This professor is amazing! I absolutely fell in love with Philosophy after taking it. He is very passionate about his area of study and is extremely helpful! There is so much reading, but it's totally do-able. You need to put in effort if you want to succeed. Discussion responses require full understanding of the readings.
His class makes no sense. He want you to interpret philosopher's beliefs in the way he interprets them, which basically means he wants you to answer the questions on his quizzes in the way he would. It just makes no sense. The only thing concrete is the teaching of moral theories, but past that everything is opinion based. Horrible course.
Cuddy, what can I say... He can be humorless but is as honest as can be, and that is more efficient in a professor. He does what is necessary to help students identify arguments in articles he assigns and discourages against misrepresentation. I think he is a great ethics teacher, and I've applied plenty of our discussion in my daily life.
Great professor! Covers topics I never heard in any other class. It can be overwhelming but you learn so much if you keep up with the work.
Gives BARELY any time to take his complicated assessments/quizzes and doesn't even show you what you got wrong at the end. Looots of reading and he nitpicks every single little detail. Overall do not recommend this class, save yourself the waste of energy and choose another teacher.
Professor Cuddy is an amazing professor, he is very knowledgeable and great with lectures. He is available for those who need the extra help and is willing to spend time with you to help you improve your grade if needed. He gives detailed feedback on exams which is awesome. I would definitely take another course with this professor.
please run while you can... this dude is not good. in my personal experience, I didnt learn much and think I wouldve gained much more knowledge about the world of philosophy with another professor. dont recommend. side note: way too strict on grades, truly unreasonable
Did not like this guy whatsoever
I just felt compelled to write a review.. although I pretty much never utilize this website. Long story short, this guy was very unfair and seemed to lack common sense. I would recommend taking someone else's class. Best of luck.
Yes, professor Cuddy is a little tough, but if you're willing to put in the work, hell work with you. He helped me understand his expectations and how to succeed in his class step by step. It's heavy reading and lecture watching, but you actually learn with him. I recommend this professor for philosophy online.
Professor Cuddy is great at what he does. You can tell that he really loves philosophy. Our class ran out of time and we only took 3 tests including the final so you have to do well on those. Although, he did let us drop one if you did badly on one. Classes contain lectures and group work every time. Homework was reasonable and not heavy.
He grades very strict based on his opinion on your own opinion. Regardless of a personal issue, he doesnt even give any partial credit for finishing a part of a discussion a day late. Why even attempt to finish it then? Should have just skipped the discussion all together instead of participated if I knew he wouldnt even give even 1/10 points.
Hes a great teacher and he works hard to teach incredibly caring and is definitely the teacher you want for philosophy.
This class was pretty hard and although the discussion questions were fairly moderate he grade them pretty tough.
I have mixed emotions about this professor do NOT expect an easy A everything is on a course reader he wrote. Dont respond to 2 class mates? Expect a 0 on your discussion. Earlier this semester on the first day I was dropped for responding to the wrong discussion and he wouldnt let me back in. Luckily I joined his late start but wont take again
HE IS GREAT! His class is the usual level of difficulty. There are daily readings and discussion boards so be ready to participate. His class truly expanded my knowledge, I really loved taking his class. Do NOT hesitate to take him, but make sure you work for the grade you want, because it doesn't come as easily especially in his class! :)
Tests dont reflect the material included in the lecture or textbook. Be ready to try to interpret HIS definition of logic&critical thinking. Average grade in class was a D & doesnt grade on a curve. He was pretty rude and condescending when trying to communicate with him. Tests were tricky and almost similar to each other. The papers were easy.
I usually don't submit ratings on here but I felt the need to warn other students before it's too late like me. The discussion boards have strict requirements and if you are missing the slightest thing you will be given half credit and no chance to make up for it. This is not the right choice if you expect the professor to be forgiving at all.
One of the best classes I've ever taken! The lectures were, for the majority of the class, interesting. He gives great feedback and he really cares about his students. Quizzes are easy as long as you watch the lectures.
Professor Cuddy is a good teacher! He was very entertaining to listen to and he connects the material to his real world experiences. Assignments are manageable and come mainly from the reading. A decent amount of extra credit opportunities.
This class is honestly really easy and hes great so idky he has bad reviews. U get two weeks to read each chpt and theres no graded (theres hw its just not graded) hw, just discussion boards, lecture short quizzes (4 qs), 1-2 papers (2nd one was optional) and assessments. And if u did the readings, all of those are really easy. Lectures are
Good person who genuinely cares about his students. Does contract grading for Bs an Cs so if all assignments are completed by the specifications on the rubric, a student would be qualified. But As are harder to earn. Make sure to take advantage of his lectures and the Zooms throughout the semester.
Don't waste your time with this professor. He grades very strictly based on his opinion on your own opinion. God forbid you only write five sentences instead of six on a discussion post then he only gives you half credit for the assignment. Just glad it's over. Take someone else's class!
He's a nice guy and really knows his stuff. You really have to read the textbook for the assessments but the lectures are pretty important too. If you keep up with the work and follow instructions you can count on a reasonable grade in the class.
Hes the best teacher ever! Very & attentive when needing help. I would highly recommend to take his class.
Cuddy is a really great, caring professor, but he makes you work for your grade. His lectures were super in depth and is always helpful whenever you need it. He uses his own textbook he made and the tests are only based off of that, which can be good and bad at times. He's challenging but he's a great professor. Take him if you have a work ethic!
Didnt like his third person quiz questions because you pay close attention to the actual lecture rather than his commentary. So you should take notes on his opinions too. Despite him having a boring voice to the point that makes you fall asleep, his lectures are interesting. Most students are involved and its relatively fun, for the most part.
Professor Cuddys class can be a little tough, you really need to take notes on everything said in the reading and his lectures to pass quizzes, but they were only 4 questions each. He offers a good amount of extra credit too if youre struggling.
Free online textbook. Very easy to read, chapters are not too long. Video lectures are short and easy to follow. Professor is very engaged with students, will discuss ideas and viewpoints when you submit your assignments. Made learning fun.
I spent like 4 hours a month on this class. It's not hard at all and the quizzes/exams are similar to the optional hw and lecture videos that he gives.
This class was super difficult, but professor Cuddy offered a ton of feedback and often gave you correct information if you were wrong about understanding the subjects. The tests are confusing and worded oddly at times though. He has his own textbook, read it THOROUGHLY. Ask questions always. If you know nothing about philosophy, this will be hard.
This was my favorite class ever last semester and I enjoyed having him as a Professor. As long as you stay on top of your work and come to class you're golden.
one of my favorite professors so far, he has a a really good sense of humor and teaching style. Tests are easy and open note, he knows what he's talking about and always willing to help. There's also a good amount of group work. I would take him again
Professor Cuddy is super chill and I can tell he really likes teaching us the topic. He was very helpful, always gave feedback if you were doing good or if you weren't quite understanding things. Great sense of humor and easy lectures. You need to read his book thoroughly and the quizzes/assessments are easy. Classwork was simple and easy.
This was an easy nad low maintenance online class. His recorded lectures help a lot. Not too much homework just a bi-weekly quiz and assignments. Not hard at all and easy class if you pay attention and get the assignments nad discussion posts done.
I had a decent experience in this class. Professor is very knowledgeable and the class is easy, even over the summer. I did not appreciate how professor Cuddy constantly accused me of using AI technologies even when i provide proof that it is my own work.
Professor Cuddy's class is challenging but rewarding. The lectures are engaging, and the textbook he created is helpful. For study prep, I found unstuck ai and ChatGPT to be useful tools. As long as you stay on top of the work, you'll do well.
DONT!!!!!!
The lectures were below average. I was not that interested in a class I was only taking for a previous major. The exam questions caught me off guard, since they wouldn't be covered during notes or by reading his own textbook. Having to rely on the book and lectures was so time consuming. I wouldn't recommend him as a professor, his grading WAS off.
Well-articulated and lectures were engaging; the textbook is mandatory but very helpful! Easy class, just stay on top of your assignments and don't fall behind, and tests/exams are open note. I'd definitely recommend him!
I recommend taking this professor for Phil103, it looked like he loves teaching it and gets really into it. Textbook is very helpful during tests (all are open note), lectures were sometimes boring, attendance is mandatory but pretty chill when you email him about missing class. loved this class even though I had a rough start.
No homework. 3 tests (all open note/textbook) super easy just take notes. Easiest class ever. Quizzes were also really short and easy. I didn't have to study a single time the whole semester. Really chill professor. I would take him again just to get an easy A.
He is very chill and cool professor who loves what he is teaching. He is also willing to help anyone that may not understand the material. Other than that, he is clear on what he teaches and how he grades homework and test. As long as you work hard and do decent on test, you'll for sure get through the class and pass.
