you do a case study a week, then he marks it up with red pen. He spends the first hour of class talking about himself His midterm is another case study that you have 2 hours to do the work your team(he assigns) does in a week.
Has real work experience on his side. Was very helpful. He continues to contact students after the class is over
His case study method is effective, but in the classroom the discussion begins strongly and consistently meanders into trivia at best. Commenting on previous ratings, his marking style and cryptic comments lead students to figure out his game for a grade rather than a course learning experience.
Pro's are his work experience and meticulous attention to detail through the case study method. Con's are his lack of clear planning throughout the semester and the feeling that he is creating the course as he goes along. I spend too much on this school to be a lab rat.
Arrogant, pompos, fake, and insane best describe professor Ng. Spends most of class talking about HHHaarvard business school, and how hard he works for his students. Then when he actually begins to teach it is a bunch of tangents that always lead back to talking about himself. Grades are subjective 50% participation, U won't get it all. Assns r too
Too emotional... not only in teaching but in ways in which you shouldnt let emotions affect your judgement of people... I wouldnt say he's a great teacher nor a great person.
Professor Ng is one of the professors who you either love or hate. YA, he talks about himself a little too much, and YA sometimes you are not sure what he's saying, but you WILL come away from his class learning A LOT, and enjoying it. If you can overcome his personality quirks you will get a good grade and you will learn tons.
Professor Harvard is not a good teacher. He is HORRIBLE with time management. Picks one topic then keeps beating it with his chopsticks all class until 15 mins left then talks about everything real fast, ignores questions, and runs over time by 15-20 mins at most times if you are lucky. He is too much into himself and not into students. F- rating.
Prof. Ng is both brilliant and caring; he made it in the real world and now gives back by teaching. There will always be a goofball who maliciously uses forums like this to protest the bad grade he earns for himself. Yes he would not make a good kindergarten teacher, but for a thinking, adult grad student, Prof. Ng is truly the best of the best.

Luke is (by far) one of the best professors in the business school. He works u HARD but u will learn a lot. He makes boring theoretical concepts come to life by presenting them through real world case studies. If u want to learn (rather than get spoon feed) I highly recommend this class.
I can honestly say Ng is a nice guy...he wants to help...but he plays favoritism in class which is not helpful in doing well. He gives A to basically 2 out of a class of 40 on an average and doesnt bother reading papers carefully enough and gives B to rest of class. If you want a easy B he is the guy but for A he is impossible believe me.
Luke Ng is an interesting professor. He is up front about his demands for the class, and if you follow his "suggestions" you will do well. If you don't do the work or don't speak up in class, you won't do well (sorry, he's not a piece of cake professor). His class discussions are interesting and bring boring concepts to life.
If you are looking form a break from the standard text book regurgitating professor this is your instructor. His real world experience combined with his unending enthusiasm create a class excitement not to be passed on. I never thought marketing could be so interesting.
While Professor Ng does not use the book (a total waste to buy it), you gain a lot from his real world experience. Overall, it was an interesting class.
He doesn't teach a thing, preferring to use class time (plus up to an extra 1/2 hr w/o fail) to talk about current events and old cases. The only assignments were these group analyses which he didn't give any instruction on, & then no matter how hard you work on it, he says you're wrong and gives you a B. Nice guy, though, if that means anything.
Relies on case studies, current events, and most importantly his extensive personal experience to guide the class. Expects students to be self motivated (it is grad school after all), and read the textbook to augment their understanding of topics. Hard, but fair. Willing to help you get the concepts if you are willing to ask when you need it.
Went above and beyond providing relevant and consistent support and guidance for marketing class students so that students could grasp, utilize and apply the marketing concepts presented. Group assignments were challenging but stimulating, and feedback/comments provided were extensive, detailed and useful. Delivered a valuable learning experience.
You would have to be lazy to do badly in this class or not attend any classes at all. Luke goes out of his way to help his students and all you need to do well in this class is to have a genuine interest and be able to effectively express your thoughts on paper. Yes, his lectures run long, but it's rare to see that type of dedication in a teacher.
Very good professor and has a real experience. The course is based on Harvard cases. I started to read the textbook but gave up pretty soon. Not very organized, but at the end of semester you have a clear picture of a case analysis (all group projects). I got a "B" for a midterm paper, "A" for the course. Appreciates a lot of class participation.
Rather then reiterating info. from a textbook Prof. Ng uses real life experiences with case studies to teach theoretical marketing concepts. The cases are challenging but he offers extensive feedback/comments. It is evident that he enjoys teaching and makes learning enjoyable. Very approachable if need extra assistance.Great Prof. highly recommend
I've been lucky enough to have Prof Ng twice. In my opinion he is the most gifted prof at Hofstra. He teaches from life experience, and uses really great HBR case studies. He truly cares about his students and their successes both in his class, and in their careers.I urge everyone to take Prof Ng, as he presents the lessons that last a lifetime.
He is a fantastic professor! He cares about students and is always being very helpful.
I took MKT 203 in my first semester. It's been a very challenging as well as interesting class. He's always sharing useful business news in class. And he incorporates marketing concepts into his real life experience, giving us the real problem to deal with. He also made extensive comments on our reports. Highly recommend.
He is a very interesting professor with real experience. You get to learn a sense of marketing by analyzing Havard Business Review. What he shared in class are very useful. Participation is highly appreciated.
My prof. for MKT203 and IB207. He also recruited me for the MBA program and helped through the enrollment/GMAT process. Lectures are based on HBR and personal experience at 3 Fortune 500 companies, which make his courses meaningful. Current events are dissected each meeting. Insightful professor, best professor I've taken, highly recommended.
He is my professor at school also in life,,,
Just take his course, real world experience and never make things too difficult to us.
"Do the right thing! Stay curious! Be creative!" Those were the first couple things I still remember from my first marketing class with Prof. Luke Ng. His "why and why not theory" totally change my life.
Even though it took me long to prepare for this class, I do not regret any minute. Because if you are prepared, you can learn a big deal from all the cases he discusses and his real life experience. And besides academic advice Prof. Ng also gave me professional and career advice, which turns out to be very helpful.
Prof Luke is excellent. His focus is totally on his students, wanting them to be well prepared for a business career. The Marketing Strategy and Analysis class is structured around analyzing real business case studies, not textbook theory. No PowerPoint presentations! It was a very interesting class. I highly recommend taking any class that Pro
He gives great professional/career advice in addition to being a great professor. With his help I found a mentor and was placed in a Fortune 500 company.
keeps you 20 min over the class limit, thus making you leaving at 20 after 11pm. rediculous!prides himself on his students and tries to help but everything he says always goes back to him and his experience. BS's too long in class and by the time it's halfway over he wants to teach! I wouldnt take him again if he was giving out A's! ok maybe B's LO
best marketing prof in Hofstra, but sometimes too much boring and megalomaniac.
Luke is a demanding professor but his interactive classes as well as the wisely chosen and well prepared business cases will provide you with a well rounded marketing and business knowledge. Moreover, Luke?s real examples will teach you how to face challenges and to think out of the box. He also endorses his students in finding the right career.
Luke is one of the most inspiring Professors. He will make sure you do well in Life.
Luke is a great speaker, and boy does he like to talk. I really enjoyed the class, but he was often late (up to an hour a couple of times) and then keeps you late as well. It's an easy class though.
Do not, I repeat do not choose this teacher for any course. Constantly makes fun of the Asian students on the class.Tells lame and uninteresting jokes and keeps on bragging about his Harvard degree. His lectures are far worse than many of the other professors in the business school. The examples he give lack accuracy and detail.
Luke has a lot of real world experience. He is the Dos Equis man of Marketing. Class participation is based on quality of participation as opposed to making your best effort. Groups were segregated so that there was 1 american and 3 foreign students per group. It was a lot of work but we also learned a lot. It is also lukes way or the highway.
Luke is one of the best professors I ever know. He cares about students so much that he always spends some extra time after class to communicate with students to make sure that they are doing good in their lives, their studies and their careers. Unlike some professors, he has a lot of real experience in all the courses he taught.
I love his classes. My favorite part was always the case analysis. I learnt a lot from discussing the cases with my team members, from Luke's very detailed comments, and from his the way he analyzed every case during the class.
Luke is one of the best marketing professors from Hofstra with plenty of working experience. His class will provide you with a well rounded marketing and business knowledge. I took his MKT203 class in fall 2013 and IB207 in spring 2014. He teaches with his real experience and really cares about student. Definitely recommend his class.
Mkt 203 was the very first class that I took at Hofstra and with Prof Ng. The class was amazing. Prof Ng uses the case study method to teach - not a reguritation of the text book or PPT slides! The case study method is a very relevant way to learn and a valuable skill to take to your job. It was an fantastic start to the MBA program.
Luke is one of the best professors at Hofstra. Strategic Mktg of Services was the second class I took with him. He expertly used the case study method to showcase real-life business challenges and to teach us how to strategically think through those challenges to a solution. Luke gave detailed, written feedback on each and every case assignment
Luke is one of the best professors i had during my academic experience. The case studies he uses are real life case studies and will help you along the way. Definitely choose his class.....
He is very caring and passionate about marketing. His attitude makes you want to learn. And his requirements are more lax. You have to show up to lecture and participate in order to get a good grade (40% of final grade). You have to read the textbook and the cases. BUT so far, 7 weeks in, the hwessayprojects are very light. Manageable work load.
This was my favorite class in graduate school. This class taught me how to think like from business stand point. I've learned so much knowledge and experience from Prof. Luke and this class, and then most of them got transferred to my great treasure in my career
Not a bad guy, but he is really annoying. He thinks marketing is of utmost importance, and for most of us it's not. Took him as a requirement from 8PM-10:30pm And most of the time, he let us out an hour after class was over. No cell phoneslaptopany form of communication allowed which means he keeping you late, and forcing you to listen to him.
If you take Luke as a professor, you will seriously regret it. He is very knowledgeable about marketing, but his teaching style is awful and ineffective. I learned nothing and he was was always unclear about his testsassignments. Very condescending & rude, be prepared to be screamed at until class is over. I really wish I took another professor
Negative comments before this post are all true. But it really depends on how you see it. There is always something to take away from his class. His logic in analyzing case studies and businesses are superbly strong. If you ever attend a business case competition, the first person you'd go to advice for is definitely him.
Professor Ng is one of the best professors I have ever had in my life. He is really nice and helpful. He really cares about his students and always gives them valuable advice about their career development and self-improvement. For any student who is interested in Marketing or International Business, his class is definitely the best choice!
Luke is definitely the best professor at Hofstra! Register his class and you will learn a lot!
As an MBA from Harvard University, Luke is very inventive and resourceful. He has worked in many of the major companies including P&G, Nestle and Pan Am. He is always willing to share his experience and successful stories, which is really helpful for the graduate students.
Luke is an amazing professor! You can learn a lot in his class!
Luke's real examples will teach you how to face challenges and to think out of the box. He also endorses his students in finding the right career. Register his claw and you will never regret!
The lectures are based on HBR and personal experience at 3 Fortune 500 companies, which make his courses meaningful. Current events are dissected each meeting. Insightful professor, best professor I've taken, highly recommended.
Best Marketing Teacher at Hofstra. Fun guy! Easy to learn.
He's a great guy and he keeps class entertaining making time go by faster. Gives 3 tests which all are pretty easy, but the paper is absolutely brutal. Definitely take him.
Such a nice man! Really cares about his students!
He really wants you to learn. The material is so simple and he wants you to have fun learning it. He also has a sense of humor. Take him.
Prof. Ng is one of the few professors that actually relate course material to real world experiences. I have learned so much from his class.
Amazing professor! Extremely helpful if you ask questions.
Besides lclasses, also gives students career advices
Luke is a very special professor that share with you his own working experience. Definitely worth taking his version of MKT203!
I keep telling my friends that taking Professor Luke's MKT 203 was one of the best choice that I've made in Hofstra. He is so inspirational and always willing to share. The most impressed thing was he gave all students good or even detailed feedback about our papers and case analysis. Besides, he likes giving out advice if you ask him for.
I took Professor Ng 's class last spring. He is a very nice teacher. He not only cares students knowledge by giving each of us detailed feedback of cases analysis , but also our career. If you have any problem about course or career, you will find he is very willing to help.
He cares every student and their work. He really wants you to gain knowledge. He corrects your mistake patiently every time. If you are an international student and want to get involved in the country, take his class and advice.
I think he does have knowledge and experience on international business based on his background, and it's always good for you to have an expert to share his ideas with. It's worthwhile to take his class if you are interested in real business and marketing.
Worst professor I've ever had. Doesn't care about other people's time or feelings. Will scream at you, pound the desks, believe he's the nicest person in the world, but really he's just the rudest. I probably should have participated more in class, but it is very difficult when you don't respect the professor. Would not recommend for anyone.
Luke is a caring and extremely dedicated educator who has many life lessons and stories from his professional career to share. Taking his class was an absolute pleasure and I hope to have another opportunity to do so in the future. His teaching style will guarantee an improvement in your analytical skills.
Professor Ng is an epitome of a mentor who stay true to his commitment of building the confidence of his students; empowering, advising and pushing his students to develop and progress. After a semesters class, I am encouraged to be attuned to many different dynamics and be challenged by the diversity of experience life brings. He is the best!
Luke is an incredible professor who truly cares about his students and wants them to learn and succeed. He's grading criteria is very clear and fair and all assignments are relevant to current events. His advice and work experience provide invaluable lessons. You won't want to miss a minute of his class!
Professor Ng is one of the best professor I ever met at Hofstra. He is very easy going and very nice to students. His lecture is inspiring and he always encourage students to participate into discussion in class. I would definitely recommend this course and Professor Ng.
My learning under Professor Ng's tutelage was phenomenal. Don't expect to just read your textbook and regurgitate facts in class. He challenges you to think and analyze wholistically the problems unique to each case. This class isn't about learning facts and terms. You can do that at home. He teaches you to master analyses and problem solving.
I don't know what the other rater on this board is talking about. At no time has Professor Ng every yelled at students or pounded on desks. He is kind and generous. It must be a disgruntled student with an axe to grind because s/he didn't work for a good grade. Professor Ng challenges you to think critically, not just spout facts and figures.
Professor Ng is inspiring. You'll hear all about his life, career Harvard Business School about 1000x. That being said, get out while you can. He admits his syllabus isn't accurate. 90% of my class failed his quiz. No one got an A on any assignment. If you don't phrase things exactly his way you're wrong. No phones/laptops. You always stay late.
Best prof at Hofstra. I learned a lot. Case discussion w/real-world problems. No boring PPT w only theory. Ng challenged me to think & look at things differently -- useful for my job. How refreshing! He used his practical work experience as lessons NOT found in textbook. Gave valuable academic/career advice after class. Gave detailed feedback.
His class was one of the worst experiences of my life. If you don't phrase what you say exactly how he wants it you are wrong. Highest grade class got on a paper was a C+. Constantly rambles about his life stories and repeats them over and over again. His theories make no sense and he is opinionated. Disrespectful to me and classmates. Stay away.
It is hard to get used to his teaching style. Be prepared to go over for class, and hear a lot of personal stories that he uses to explain his point, that I personally enjoyed. Participation is very important. Analyzing the way he does is very difficult, but your effort is very important to him and rewarded. Try and participate and you will do well
Best prof in 2 yrs. Wow! Refreshing course, like seminar. No PPT, no term paper. Learn from real world case study/films-practical/useful. Makes u think/analytical. No regurgitation. Lectures are planned in case discussion. Caring prof gives useful academic & career advice beyond the call of duty. Prof Ng helped me find new career I overlooked.
Since anyone can leave a review, including the professor himself, it makes perfect sense that he has a 4.2. If you have the choice- AVOID this professor. You will waste valuable hours of your life in which he will speak endlessly about himself and his questionable accomplishments- you will hope and pray he gets to a point but it never happens!
Fantastic prof. No boring PPT/No term papers. Case studies w/lots of real world experience useful for learning how to run a business rather than just book learning. Participation encouraged. Very accessible outside class giving valuable advice on academics/career. I followed his advice/switched major. Got an internship leading to full-time job.
Good course/good prof. Different from typical PwPT lecture. Discussion of real companies. Encourages participation. Conducted 1 class in restaurant--field trip! Learn "behind-the-scene" operating real business. What's there not to like? No term-paper. Just quiz on text-reading. Learned much from real business cases & prof's industry experience.
Fantastic prof/course. No boring PPT/ no term papers. Discussion of real companies like seminar. Participation matters. He used his industry experience to illustrate business cases. No typical book regurgitation-Nice change of pace. Learned much from prof's varied experience. Incredible written feedback on assignment like no others. Approachable.
Very caring dedicated prof. Came to class a day out of hospital. Case study useful. He used his experience to enrich discussion. He gave valuable advice not found in textbooks. Helped students to advance career like no other teachers/advisors. Follow his direction you'll get high grade. No term paper/projects. Just case analysis/discussion.
Very caring prof. He taught class a day after he came out of hospital. Amazing lectures w/his experience blended in case discussion. No term paper/project. Participate you'll do well. No boring PPT. Fantastic written feedback. Wished my other classes same. Gave students career/academic advice. I got paid internship b/c of him. Available after class
Luke is amazing! Participation matters and it is quality over quantity. He is well prepared for his class, has lots of feedback for students, and is very thoughtful of grad students' time restrictions. Textbook reading supplements what we discuss in class. Case-based learning is amazing. Definitely will take him again. No boring PPT.
I had a wonderful experience with Prof Ng. It takes some time to get used to him and his style of teaching. It is very different from other grad programs/other classes in MBA. He knows his stuff, comes prepared, welcomes questions - which in itself is cool becuz some prof don't like that. Would take again in a heartbeat! Easy group projects/final.
I wish that more professors utilized his teaching style. - No cell phones or laptops are allowed in class - No PPT's He is all about being in the present. It takes a bit of getting used to but pay attention & go to class Cons: never ends class on time, syllabus is not followed. Just show up and MAKE SURE to participate (40% of your grade)
STAY AWAY! This has been my worst experience in all my years at Hofstra University. His course outline is not followed, his grading is all over the place, and his attitude towards his students is unprofessional. He goes on way to many tangent and expected students complete work like we are at the Harvard. Stay away, other professors are better
Take anyone else if possible. This is not a marketing class. It is an analytical and theory class. The professor is teaching his opinion and if you cannot arrive to the same conclusion as him, you are always wrong. If there is anyone else you can this class with, take it. You will struggle and scream during this class.
Case study heavy and very interesting. This man is a treasure trove of information and experience and will most likely transform the way you think about business. Participation matters though, so attempt to. He leaves a ton of feedback, read and apply it.
Every single class he goes over at least 10 minutes or more. Course work is confusing, does not post the syllabus online. Will give it to u on the first day of class... don't lose it.
Professor doesn't let use of phones and laptops ,and grading is not transparent.
