I feel like the luckiest person to have this guy as my teacher for this subject. Never enjoyed math before this, and I credit him with the gift of spreading this enjoyment. I had a rough start, but the guy teaches extremely well, listens to you, and goes out of his way to make sure you are helped.

Seriously impressed! I didn't just learn differential equations, but I got much better at integrating and generally reasoning in math :) The lectures are super clear and interesting. Yes, tons of homework was intimidating at first. Yes, there are heavy penalties for stupid mistakes. But - those are the stairs to success. Amazing class overall.

Awesome lecturer. I used to think that my high school math teacher is the best but Dr. R is really a great lecturer. Although he gave a lots of homework, 100 questions sometimes or exceed 100 questions, it is really for the student's good. Yes, you might need 3 hours to complete his daily homework but math is all about practice!

Dr. R is the best math teacher I have ever had. He cares so much for his students and goes out of his way to make sure everyone understands the concepts he is teaching. Tests are easy if you are diligent about doing your HW. He does assign a lot of HW and gave daily checks but it only helped me do better on tests. Bummed I cannot take him again.

Luke is an amazing professor. I learned more in the first 20 minutes of class on the first day of school than my entire sophomore year of high school. He is really caring and wants you to succeed. He is always available to help. There are tests every Friday but they are relatively easy and he gets them back to you the following Monday. TAKE HIM!

Dr. R is flat out the best math teacher I have ever had. I've never liked or been good at math until I took this class. He makes math so simple and breaks it down into smaller parts to make it easier to understand. He's pretty entertaining too, and he drops your lowest test score at the end of the quarter. Take this guy!!!

Dr. Rawlings is a caring person. Combine that trait with his intellect, and choosing him as a professor was a no-brainer. I'm only sad he's not teaching Calculus in the Fall. Yes, there's a lot of homework. If you don't give a sh*t about math, please don't take him. Don't waste space in his class. This teacher is here to prep you for a STEM career.

The best math teacher I've ever had and even one of the best teachers I've had in general. He is so patient and kind with students and is very understanding. Luke is simply, the best!! I had him for 2 quarters, and was very skeptical at first, but I assure you... You will NEVER have a better math teacher than Luke! He's so great. The only downside of his teaching/classes is the amount of homework that he assigns every night. DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED!! He grades on improvement, and you'll be happy. :)

Took Dr R. in 141 and 142. You can just tell he's very passionate in his teaching and want his students to excel in class. He's very nice and patient and he teaches math well. His exams can be a bit tricky at times, so make sure you understand the material well. As long as you progresses throughout the qtr, you will do well in his class.

Professor Rawlings is the instructor that you would want to have as a mentor - real one of a kind! Whether you're passionate about Math or just personally want to benefit from lectures, I'd recommend taking him. Although he is quite known for assigning lots of homework, he cares as much about student success and welfare. You won't be disappointed!

Professor Rawlings is one of the best math teachers at Bellevue College. You can feel his enthusiasm about math in his teaching. He really cares about students and you feel free to ask any question. Attendance has 5 points in final grade, but you can't pass the class if you won't show up. He assigns almost every night HW which is very helpful.

If you have a chance to take a class with Dr. Rowlings you should not lose that chance. Great lectures! Dr. R is very awesome and always gives you opportunity to make up for the points that you lost. Towards the end of the quarter he also gives an optional exam to help you improve your grade.

I didn't think I would pass class or become ready for class at UW in same topic. This prof make subject clear and I make A at UW. I know more than friends in class because of this prof. High recommend this prof. He has knowledge of subject and his lecture make everything clear. Also he help a lot after class and share notes.

Dr. Rawlings is one of the best and amazing teachers at BC. Although he gives a lot of homework, you will actually learn the course materials and exams will be easier. Do as much homework problems as you can in advance! He gives good feedback and provides extra credits for problems you do on your own. With him, you'll love math.. Take his classes!

Rawlings is a very good math professor. I went to his class and understood everything he taught us. His class is easy if you pay attention. Homework took me no more than 25 minutes to finish. Three exams and one final exam. The only thing I didn't like was the people in my class. They were very annoying and disruptive. Not Rawlings fault though.

Honest I thought Dr. Luke was too tough in start and then I take class at WSU and I know more than friends. Take Dr. Luke, work hard, and trust what he say in class. He knows a lot math too. Best teacher I had and wish I could take again to appreciate him from start.

This teacher offered a great experience in math. I have NEVER been in a class where I felt challenged and enjoyed it. While Rawlings has high expectations, he is kind and offers plenty of opportunities for bettering your grade. He is also funny and approachable, and his handwriting is super neat. His lectures are crystal clear.

Very high quality instruction. Will be among the best math professors you ever have. He is a fairly tough grader, but not overly so, however his exams are typically only out of 40 points. This means small mistakes represent significant percentage losses (a -2 for a wrong sign is 5% off). So overall the course is challenging but so worth it.

I dont think he is tough grader as others claim, but he does have high expectations, and gives you chance to fail and fix yourself. I wish he didnt collect homework because I dont need to do homework in math classes to get it. The guy is real teacher and goes out of his way to help people, even kids who insult him and the class. Is really good teacher but he treat us like college student. He give us a lot of homework but make due date up to us. Expect us to know a lot of algebra and calculus before this class and should review it all in first half of quarter.

I failed two of his exams but ended up doing well on final. Prof Luke graded on improvement and prepped me for UW work. He is a real Luke SKywalker. Take him and trust his work!! I once complained about the work but I don't regret his policies AT ALL!! Plus he write neat and clear.

I did not know anything about math, and I've postponed math course until my last quarter because I was afraid of failing math course or getting bad grade. However, I was really surprised that when I saw myself while taking math course, this teacher made me love math. I'm not lying. Just take his class. You will find yourself you are enjoying math.

Professor Rawlings is a great teacher. He fully explains all the material in class, as well as doing some example problems; the textbook is basically unnecessary, except for doing the HW. He does assign a fair bit of HW, but he's quite lenient on HW deadlines and his tests will be a breeze if you do them. Very enthusiastic about his job as well.

Luke Rawlings is by far one of the best teachers that I've ever had. His lectures were amazing, he was always very clear and added humor. He allowed time for questions as well as extra office time and time after class for them. The pace of this class was quick, so I would not recommend skipping. Lots of HW, and 4 exams total. Exceptions allowed :)

Mr Rawlings was by far the best teacher I have ever had. Math has been a huge issue along with my education path. With him, I learned to like and understand math. He is a teacher that really likes what he does, He really cares for students, he runs the extra mile to teach. On top of that, he is super hot.

Luke is very good at drawing, which is a huge benefit in multivariate calculus. He's a tough grader, but he compensates by adjusting the bar to compensate. For those who want to get better at math this is preferable to setting the bar high but being an easy grader (like Akhliagi) because it lets him give more feedback.

Possibly the best math professor I've ever had. He assigns a fair amount of work true, but his lectures are quite effective in that you seldom have to rely on self learning to complete the work. If you are looking to get a solid grounding in mathematics, take Rawlings. Seriously, I wish I could take more classes with him!

Luke is the best math teacher Ive EVER had. I always got cs in all math classes, I got an A in his. He was always willing to help, he was annoying about attending Class but hey, it got me there. I took him for granted at BC, I have yet to find a teacher as good as him at UW. Plus hes nice to look at and funny.

Luke demonstrates his passion for math, and made the class enjoyable by being able to break down concepts of what's to be learned. He knowingly assigns a huge load of homework, but due dates were within a reasonable time. What he asks of students can be quite intense at times, but his personality and genuine care more than make up for it.

Although he gives a lot of homework, it prepares you for the tests pretty well. The only downside is that he grades harshly; beware of notation/algebra errors. If you are just looking for credit, do not take his class. If you are going into math or engineering, then he will prepare you very well for higher level classes. His lectures are amazing.

Yes there's a ton of HW but due dates are flexible and it really does prepare you for tests. Awesome lectures, breaks down concepts and examples really well. 5 exams + Final makes up 90% of your grade, so don't expect an easy A. He's super chill and friendly though. Definitely take him if you plan to take higher level engineering/physics/math.

Luke is very different from many math professors I've had. He is a challenging professor who really pushes you to understand the concepts which makes him a great professor if you want to go into higher level math or engineering classes. Very helpful and caring person! Kind of picky on arithmetic errors (-4 for missing a negative sign :( )

This teacher is one of the best instructors of math I had. My guess is students who think he tough grade haven't been to college level class much. I'm more than prep for work at UW and I owe thanks to this guy and Jen Townsend for holding high standards to us. If you want learn math, take from him. If you want easy class then don't.

Luke breaks from the normal path of math education by being fun and engaging. He claims he's a tough grader when he's not. He even marks off points for wrong answers. Occasionally writes in green which for the life of me sitting in the front row couldn't see when I wasn't looking at the white board. AVOID unless you want to have a good time.

Luke is a great math professor. Occasionally goes on math tangents, but definitely a great choice. He offers plenty of chances for students to ask questions and engage in the lecture. Regarding grading, i have had tougher teachers and his grading is reasonable. Definitely a push to get an A but it was worthwhile.

Prof is extremely passionate about mathematics . He teaches effectively but he is terrible at the administrative aspect. He is very unpredictable, small mistakes on tests may nuke your grade while large ones have no impact, some days you'll get 3 hours of hw that he collects the next day, and others will be 10 minutes he doesn't collect for a week

Favorite prof I have ever had, I took calc 2 over summer with him and it reignited my interest in math. He is unbelievably passionate and cares so much about what he is teaching. Could not recommend him enough.

Dr. Rawlings is a professor you didn't know you needed in your life. He actually wants you to understand, not to just pass by. If you would like to build a solid understanding of math I highly recommend this instructor. Yes, you will pull out your hair, but it will be worth it.

He is the best math lecturer I've ever had. He really explains things clearly! He'll tell you exactly what you need to know for all his exams, so just pay attention and take notes.

Luke has fantastic notes (taken during quarantine) that really helped get the conceptually-challenging material drilled in. An hour or two of HW each night, but does not feel unfair. Quizzes are challenging but fair. Final project was a cool idea but the execution was challenging b/c he could never be clear on expectations/ was a moving target.

Professor Rawlings is great and while his class isn't easy, it is enjoyable. His notes are very clear and he is more then willing to help out with explaining the tougher concepts. He wants to make sure that you are focused on understanding the material, rather then concentrating on the grade. Even though this was a tough B for me, liked the class.

Dr. R. is an excellent instructor. He really cares about his students. He is a very nice, funny and openminded person. I'd take his class one more time if I had the option. His notes are clear and interesting to read. I did not need to do a lot of extra research to understand the materials. Dr.R. is one of these instructors that we never forget.

I took Mr. Rawlings' online MATH 238 class. Although learning online can be difficult, he made the process easier for his students by preparing excellent notes for the entire course. If you're taking Running Start, make sure to take lots of math so that you can take MATH 238!

Dr. Rawling's class is one of the few that has adapted to COVID-19. It's not lecture heavy, so you can use the class lecture time to study and do the homework. He's professional, helpful, & he wants you to succeed. My only concern is that his quizzes were all or nothing. Very few assignments so you needed to do the work on time & correctly.

Prof. Luke's notes are clear and detailed. 7 quizzes and THERE IS NO FINAL; instead, you have problem sets (write in detail, following his notes). If you STICK TO THE DEFINITIONS covered in the notes, you'll do well on the quizzes. He informs you about the quiz, NO POP-UPS and it's mostly multiple choice. He gave freebies as well. :)

In high school, I hated math and could not understand anything my teachers were saying, but after taking his class, not only was I able to understand math, I was able to learn how to learn (if that makes sense). I am now at a 4-year-university getting my teaching certification, and I hope to be a teacher like him. Best teacher Ive ever had!

Course structure was VERY fluid. Dr. R was accommodating throughout but changes + late grading led to frustration. Amazing lectures, hw problems meant to make you think. Tests and p-sets are challenging but manageable. Agree with him, this class is one best taught in-person, would rate higher if so. Ask questions! He loves math and it shows.

Also encourages curiosity in exploring the course material and beyond, which makes the class really fun. Does go on tangents a lot, but they contextualize the course material. Do not take this course if you do not like math. If you like math, this will be one of the best courses you've ever taken. His lectures are thought-provoking and help a lot with filling in gaps from previous classes and think of things from a new perspective.

He's nice. He wants students to focus on learning rather than grades, so you won't be able to see your grade until end of semester. Prepared us ok for his exams. Hints at exam Qs in lectures so SHOW UP TO CLASS. Helpful online videos. I liked the way he taught us, but his grades system was too stressful for a person who cares a lot about grades.

Many of the recent reviews make him seem like a bad professor but I quite enjoyed his class. the only thing that I disliked about his class is that he never released grades until the very end which was a little annoying. The only time I needed to use the textbook was for practice problems overall if you do the hw and ask questions you will do fine

Dr. Rawlings is thorough in explaining concepts and is able to break down the math really well. If you're able to do the math HW on your own, not stress about his unique grading criteria, don't mind off-topic tangents, don't mind waiting for responses to questions, and love math, then would recommend it. It's a math class I'll remember for sure.

Dr. Rawlings is the professor we need, not necessarily the one we deserve. Take his class, it might change your life. It certainly changed mine.

he's a silly guy and a great teacher

I took Luke Rawlings for 2 quarters. The secret to passing his class is actually paying attention in class and doing the assignments he gives. He doesn't give very many, but when he does, do them entirely and understand them well. He is all about actually learning the concept, not grades, so if you put effort into his class he will give you an A.

Loves to yap A LOT, but loves to make math fun and reignited my love for math. Not a big workload and tests are fairly easy since they are concept based. If you really understand the concepts, you will do well in his class. He doesn't tell you your grade until the end of the quarter, but you can go and ask him about your current grade in the class.

I had him for calculus 2,3,4 and now diff eq. Re-ignited my curiosity and liking for mathematics. Makes learning math fun. He uses an "ungrading" system where he won't put a grade on an exam for the purpose of focusing on the math rather than just aiming for a grade. He'll tell you your grade if you ask him, though. S

Luke Rawlings is the professor of all time. He taught me about fuzzy topos theory during our linear algebra class and reignited my love for mathematics.

Very fun lectures. He also cares about writing, so spend time cleaning up your notation. Goes of tangent a lot, but I personally find them very thought provoking. The concept of not having a grade did scare me at first, but he does give feedback on the exam so you'll know where to stand, and if you show improvement, that'll help your grade too.

Professor Rawlings is a great professor who cares about the material, there is traditional grading, and wants to make sure you focus on actually knowing the material rather then stressing over a letter, outside of class he assigns a lot of homework that he wants you to do, and maybe you should, but in my experience I did not do it and was fine.

Professor Rawlings makes math fun, though he can ramble a bit. The 'ungrading' system was unusual but helped me focus on learning concepts. Unstuckstudy was a big help too - definitely worth checking out for this class.

Overall a pretty good professor. Clearly very passionate about math, and I found the way he lectures to be engaging and very useful on the exams. He issues homework, but it is rarely graded. Tests are simple and very similar to lectures and homework. Grading policy is a little uncomfortable as he doesn't tell you your grade unless you ask.

Luke Rawlings cured my depression. In simple terms, professor Rawlings is the second coming of Jesus Christ. He single handedly solved world hunger and stopped WW3 with his amazing lectures. Pros: generally not too hard to get a good grade, fantastic lectures and you will learn math in a more interesting and probably superior way Cons: course is somewhat disorganized (at least on the canvas side of things) and you need to just relax and not worry about your grade because you will not know it until the end, which can be tough

Lectures are glorified office hours. There is no lecturing; instead, pupils ask questions about hardware. Quizzes average 50% and provide no explanation for grades. Solve it his way or receive half credit for the question. HAVE DIAGRAMS. Canvas is disorganized, and everything is located in announcements. Avoid at any cost.

Amazing teacher. Truly inspiring, and the lectures are amazing. Tests are straightforward and similar to the tests. Show up if you want to learn!! He does not respond to emails often, so if that's a concern, maybe not the right teacher, but overall, amazing!

I've taken him for Intro into Linear Algebra and Calc 4. Both times have been very good. He's a chill guy, and he teaches well. HW was heavy, but that's the same as calc 1&2 because it's just derivate practice. He made me like the subject way more. Try him for one time. Just give effort and you'll do good (a lot of people had trouble doing that).

If you are a traditional class taker, you'll see that rawlings yaps a whole ton on random tangents and stuff. I'd say to just read the documents he gives and check your grade/gpa when he underlines two numbers. Overall, his class is interesting to say the least but could be a little annoying I guess.

Take rawling for linear algebra. thats his best topic and you can clearly tell he knows his stuff because he talks the most on the topic. he doesnt go over the boring tedious busy too much and goes over the big picture main ideas. His tests are easy to get improvement “points” back. Read the documents. gl
