very hard to understand, not clear on subject, jumps around alot

why is this class teaching... he doesn't even know how to use a graphing calculator... don't even know how he got hired in the school... if u noticed he has his passport picture on the website.. i mean comon now!!!
Whatever you do, DO NOT take him for Calculus. You will suffer like my whole class. Teaches from too intellectual point of view to understand. Tests are tricky and aren't even on material that was covered in the book or class.
I love Mr. Le. He is a great teacher and others complain about him because they can't hang with the big boys. YOU ROCK MR.Le!!!
hard but fair, never had a problem when i needed extra helpwas always willing to work with me to better my grade
Is very helpful and fair with his grading. Always willing to lend a hand.
hard to understand. good teacher. very helpful
very difficult to understand, confusing at times and unclear. would not recommend if you are not math friendly. hard course structure and strenuous tests, cut my ass down to pieces.
Very hard to understand. Class is way to hard. Big waste of my time. I just stoped going to class. This guy needs to slow down on the content and be more clear. If you take him you will have a hard time.
dropped his class because he was so incredibly hard to understand--DO NOT TAKE HIM---jumps around a lot, unstructured lectures
very good teacher...even offers extra credit!
Kind of hard to understand but, once you get passed that he is a great teacher. He offers many different analogies to remember math.
STOP RIGHT THERE !!!!! YoU do not wanna take his class... I got a "D" in his class even though i got 45/50 in all my tests, did my homework and went to class every ****in day of class !!! HE SUCKS!! NO DOUBT ABOUT HIM!!! BETTER OFF TEACHING PING
I really like this funny little Vietnamese guy. He answers all questions on homework. Tests are easy, he reviews for each one. Gives extra credit.
He is very boring teaches directly out of the book. If you do not do your homework for this class he makes it impossible to get an A.
lol! Funny little Vietnamese guy. Disorganized, smart, friendly. Fun class, but had to read the book.
Very hard to understand because he has a Chinese accent. He's not Vietnamese!! Second of all, while he teaches, he always makes many mistakes with basic operations. ASSIGNS TOO MUCH HW!!
very funny, answers every single question u ask.and very good explainer, hes accent is getting better and better i took math 102 now 212.very nice person
Took him awhile ago and it was boring. not only that but he wasnt a help at all. not worth taking from him. fond someone better!!
can not understand a word this guy is saying, i think that clear speech should be required for teaching a subject to people who are trying to learn. One of the worst math classes I have ever had
You have to do your homework, or you won't pass his class, but it doesn't take long to do. It is always eeo, so you can find the answers. He also always does a review for his tests and tells you exactly what is going to be on them. So you don't have to spend too much time studying.
although he has an accent, he does an excellent job of clarifying any problems. do all homework PLUS extra credit and you will pass this class with ease. don't worrry so much on the tests. as long as you do all your homework and extra credit CORRECTLY, the test should come real easy
You have to love the amount of EXTRA CREDIT he gives. There are only 450 points total int the class, but he gives you the the opportunity to have 45 points of EC!!! That is 10%!!! It will bring you up one whole grade. Also, He makes funny stupid jokes. You have to love LE.
Good math teacher. brakes down difficult concepts into funny jokes. it takes some getting use to his accent but eventually that is what makes him so funny! there is a lot of HW but he will let you turn it in late. he also gives you a lot of extra credit
He is very hard to understand, and gives way to much homework. His tests are long, and his classes are boring. Don't waste your time with this guy.
he cares about his students and it makes a difference. i got an A on our first exam, hes the best math teacher ive had.
great
his accent makes it hard to understand and his tests are hard but when he slows down and explains what he's saying he is good
He is ok... not perfect. He oftentimes make mistake with basic operations such as addition and multiplication, and that sometimes adds to the whole confusion his lecture causes... But he tells students exactly what kind of problems will be in the test, and always gives extra credit after the test. Hard class, but if u try, u'll get an A. LOTS OF HW
Gotta be one of the funniest teachers i have ever had. Makes funny jokes about math which actually help u remember the material. Gives A LOT of homework. Tells you EXACTLY what will be on the test, like problem for problem except there are just different numbers. However, his final is damn near IMPOSSIBLE. It was the hardest test i have EVER taken.
he is a great teacher, I always been really bad at math, but he made it easy to understand, he has a little accent but is ok? he makes jokes that makes you remember all the material that he teaches, if you waht to pass math take himGREAT TEACHER
Kobe and Shaq= LOGrithams; The "U" in substitution for integrals=bin ladin; yes, no, MAYBEEE; Martha Stewart and Bill Gates law; Britney spears problem (it looks innocent but really isn't); anaconda, j. lo, nixon, whisker graphs. FUNNY ASS GUY!! HAHAHAH, ANYONE WHO HAS HAD HIM FOR CALCULUS KNOWS WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT!!!
great teacher,so funny with his relations.will definetly be taking him for calc.
He is funny.
very understanding and has a funny way to relate math with tell jokes he has a nick name for everything.
He was pretty helpful but somethings were not very clear
I LOVE THIS TEACHER! He's the only math teacher i have ever had. I had him 3 times and I got an A in his class i last took. and bc of him i love math now. he's really funny and i have so much respect for him. his stories are inspiring and i wish all teachers were more like him.
This man wants you to pass and makes it easy by giving extra credit quizes. He is very helpful, always asks if there are any questions before moving on, and gives you time to do your hw. He tells you what will be on the test and always reviews. His class was very interactive and he is pretty funny, genuine and simple.
Went into this classes knowing I would probably not pass...but I did. He hates it when he can tell your not paying attention or its obvious you dont want to be there. I didnt do well at all on the test...bombed the final, but I showed up every day, asked questions and did all my homework. Pluse he is actually kind of funny!
Attendance only for borderline grades. Hard but helpful. Homework only a small part of your grade. Bizarre jokes/analogies. Tests are tough, they test a lot of little-known material. Tells you exactly what you will be tested on (eg question 1 will test this, etc). Final is EXTREMELY HARD. Sometimes seems like he's trying to stump students on tests.
Took him in summer course for Trig. Good teacher but will not give you the A if you don't have it. I was 10 points away from the A and he gave me a B, but whats fair is fair. Tests are fair and he gives a quiz the next day from one of the test questions to boost your grade. Jokes are repetitive but hes a good guy.
He is hard but he gives quizes after each test for extra credit and even if you don't take the test take the quiz to get some points. Do the homework all of it.QUIZES are very helpful.
Mr. Le is very friendly and very helpful. He wants you to pass, he gives quizzes after every test for extra credit. If you take him, you wont regret it.
I don't understand how people think he's difficult. His tests are straight off his lectures and in the book and it was an easy A.
Great professor, really cares for the student and his always willing to help. Gives quizes for students who had trouble on the previous exam and drops one test at the end of the semester...Great teacher and would recommend for taking because Math 070 is not easy.
He wasn't clear in his lectures and did not go over his tests after you take them. Tests were really hard too.
This guy is hilarious! He makes algebra fun by always making jokes that apply to what he's teaching. He has an accent but he's always easy to understand.
a lot a lot a lot of homework, boring class, his accent, hard test, seriously, dont take it. you will lower you GPA unless you are really really good at math. i used to like mathmatics but i lost my interest in math because of this guy. I alway got A from any math classes. I got a C from his class. the most horrible teacher i ve ever met in my life
Wowwww... this class is "elementary geometry" and he makes it hardeer than it seems. His grading is TOO HARSH and when you try to discuss it with him--u dont get any partial credit!!! I've never had a math teacher who is so UNFAIR
cant understand this guys accent. gives toooooooo much HOMEWORK! and the tests r so ridiculous...they never ever cover wat u learn in classs...he has 1,000 proofs on it and 1 equation. everyone in my class has C's and D's. he's the worst teacher ive ever taken
want to pay for an F? TAKE HIS CLASS!
geeezo. After attending every class and trying i still failed. I turned in every assignment. its hard to understand more than half the class failed. dont recomend taking him. I have never gotten an f ever in my life even after being at coc for 2 years. Class was boring as well a lot more homework than any math class i have ever taken!!!
you guys are just lazy. you just have to do your homework and score 5's on all the quizes. those quizes are extra points since he gives the answers to you anyway beforehand. if your lazy DONT TAKE his class. if your ok then youll be fine. "do you agree?"
If you dont do the hw youre gonna have a hard time passing the class. The test are short so if you miss one youre screwed but he always has extra credit quizzes that he gives you the answer to. its basically 2 or 3 questions from the test and it adds 15-20% to your grade. so do your homework and pass the quizzes and youll be able to pass the class
horrible!! cannot understand a freaking word that he says!!no matter what I did I still got an F!! dont take!!
VERY GOOD TEACHER!!! I Got one of the highest grades in math with him! Do all the homework he checks it! Take notes! Overall great teacher, wish I had him for Spring =// oh well. AAA++++++++
i am currently in his geometry class and half the time he doesnt even know what hes talking about. he's a tough grader on tests and they are usually short so if you miss one, you're screwed. i dont recommend him at all.
If you want to pass the class pretend you dont know and ask a random question about the homework EVERYDAY the class meets. also, i noticed a few students mentioning his, "extra 10 points". he grades so that you receive 10 points or more less than you should have received and then he "gives" you 10 back.
Worst teacher ever. Highly not recommended. Very strict grading; beyond ridiculous. Assigns problems for homework that he doesn't teach. Also, assigns problems that even he cannot solve. Does not follow proper techniques on teaching lesson, which means getting help is not possible. I would try to avoid this teacher by all means. Waste of money; tim

Le is a great professor. He is funny, and knowledgable about math. His grading is easy and straight forward (-1 pt per error on the test). He makes a lot of pop references such as F(x)=x^3 he calls J. Lo. ; problems that look easy but are hard he calls Britnet Spears (looks innocent but really isn't) and imaginary #'s are Michael Jackson #'s
Great professor, he's really funny. I got a D in his class but only because I didn't do any of his homework. As long as you do his homework you'll be fine
GREAT TEACHER. EASY TO UNDERSTAND BUT I GOT CONFUSED A LOT. MAKE SURE U DO HOMEWORK AND QUIZZES I HAD TO BE THERE EVERY CLASS TO KEEP UP. TAKE HIM IF U HAVE TIME TO DO HOMEWORK AND KEEP UP WITH HIS SPEED
I dont know if Im stupid or if Calc is just very hard but I studied my ass off almost everyday for hours @ a time yet I never passed a SINGLE test of his I even failed the final but for some reason I got a C in the class pretty ironic. loved his attitude, u 2 will learn 2 accept him 4 who he is & make fun of him @ the same time.

After taking Luong I think I have found the rudest professor I have ever had! He would say the book is wrong like every class. Did not know what he was talking about at all. When I went to the TLC and showed them my notes they wanted to know what he was teaching because it was all wrong. The class started with about 40 and ended with 10.
He is the worst teacher ive had he pronounces everything wrong and its hard to understand him , he teaches really weird too , you dont learn anything you have to teach yourself
From a studious student, teacher is difficult. He admitts that he puts questions on the test to trick the students. He is not willing to help, he is not a teacher looking out for his students best intrest, he never praises, and teaches with a real negative attitude. Plan to spend every hour of your life working at calc.
I worked my BUTT off in his class. I studied for HOURS every day and knew EVERYTHING. He always put me and the rest of the class down and gave insanely hard tests. I failed even though I knew the info better than my peers in other classes. Worst teacher I have EVER HAD IN MY LIFE, do not take him EVER.
I was the only student who got an A in the Fall 09 class, but I will say he is hard, unhelpful, does not explain problems clearly and will throw many curveballs. Do not expect this class to be easy, you will have to work for your grade. Study the book, clear the terminology and practice, practice, practice. It's the only way you will pass.

at first i thought i had to drop the class..it is hard but TAKE ADVANTAGE OF HIS OFFICE HOURS!! If he sees you trying it will totally pay off!! i failed the first two tests and then went to him for help and started getting A's and B's
i ended up getting my math book stolen after going outside the class to use the restroom...and he let me borrow his for the rest of the semester. That's enough to say how much he cares about his students, he?s VERY helpful, and tests are fair, do the hw and pay attention and you will pass.
At the beginning you will feel hard and unresonable because he using high level technical to teach you how to slove problems in smart way. When you used in the there, you learn a lot easy way to slove questions. BTW, do the HW, and you can passed his class. Good luck
This professor teaches in a very simple manner yet does everything he can do confuse you on the exams. I recommend that anyone who takes him be a math or physics major because if not you will fail. He is very difficult, and cares little for his students.
worst math class experience of my life, act friendly, finds every possible way to stump you on the exam. Makes you believe the test will not be as difficult and then throws in a bunch of trig. Do not take him!
He is a very nice man who wants all of his students to pass. He might seem intimidating at first because he gives you the facts about the passing rate of this class, but don't let that scare you. He told me that more students pass his class then any other teacher. Do the homework or at least most of it! Don't be afraid to ask him questions!
Can hardly believe this guy still has a job?! hands down the worst teacher ive ever had. he does not prepare for lecture and spends most of the class talikng to himself at the board! not to mention he yells at us and calls us stupid often!! "many of you going to fail my test!" he boasts as he gives his tests that are full of things we never learn!!
Avoid. Test problems are WAY HARDER than anything in the book. Full of tricks and curveballs. It's stuff you "should know" but how can you prepare for it if it's not in the book? He works against you when grading. Only one A in the class. He takes the "tough love" approach to teaching. It works but your GPA will suffer, guaranteed.
Le is a good prof., but expects alot. He will always choose the hardest questions for, but offers extra credit quiz afterward. And the previous person lied, there were 3 A's. The techer bumped up grades that were boarderline.
He knows he's difficult, but the subject in general has a low pass rate in the college. He always gives the hardest problems to solve during lecture but only for the students benefit. If the student can do the extremely hard problems then the rest are much easier. He offers 15pts extra credit to be added to each test. I think he makes quite a few m
I kept getting around the 60 percent range on the tests but with the added 15 points of extra credit it put me at around the 80 percentile. he offers extra credit and drops the lowest test score if you pass the final. he takes time getting used to but overall a great teacher.. he really wants his students to learn.
techer is horrible. he says less than half pass his class... true! he barely speaks english, doesnt explain how to solve the problems on notes, and gives the absolute hardest problems and expects u to know them. honestly, take another teacher by all means.
Terrible! Gives less than 5 minutes of notes and then chooses the hardest problems as examples which confuses everyone. Expects you to use names for graphs that only he knows. Starts several problems, but doesn't finish them because they are too complicated. Expect to be teaching yourself the entire time using the book (which is useless). Dont take
It's a love/hate relationship. He's a funny guy and all but his teaching method is horrible. And the tests? Ridiculous. I would not recommend. If you do take him, plan on teaching yourself and spending a lot of quality time with tutors.
Overall he is a nice guy, but very very difficult. He writes his own test and will choose the hardest questions on the test. The tests are way harder then the HW. He does give 10 extra credit points for each test. I would NOT take him again.
Don't expect full credit on hw. Don't expect full credit for correct test answers. He speak broken English and can be difficult to understand at times. Picks more difficult problems for tests than appear in hw. Overall difficult teacher to work with, I was the only one to get an "A" in his class, only 6 passed.
Nice teacher!!! :)
I took this class YEARS ago and I cannot believe he is still teaching here. I LOVE math and I've always done really well in all my math classes, but he is the WORST teacher I've ever had. He is difficult to understand and he is not helpful at all when you have a questions. I would avoid his class if possible!
I thought it was an easy course, but that is because i was familiar with the math prior to taking the course. His accent takes a little getting used to, it's sometimes hard to understand what point he is trying to get across.... but other than that i thought he was a great guy. funny. used metaphors to help you remember things like "The Nixon"
If you're lazy don't take his class. But I do all my homework so I'm getting an A. People who complain are honestly lazy. If you think you were graded unfairly, you can talk to him about it. He marked me down too many points on homework so I said something and he gave me the points. Too many people enjoy complaining to solve a personal problem
He is by far the worst math teacher I have ever had! He calls the class morons and says he was doing this stuff in 5th Grade. He doenst go by the book, and calls the book stupid...READ the book after each class to know what you just learned! I do not recommended him at all! Half the class dropped
I don't know how to start this without feeling extremely angry...but, This guy is by the far the worst teacher i've ever had; he does NOT deserve to be even remotely close to academics. His structure is more confusing than helpful, and just trying to figure out what he's saying is a challenge. Grades very, very hard on all assignments,test-h.w.
Worst. Class. Ever. Can be condescending and is very unorganized when it comes to lectures and he never finishes a problem. He will get halfway through it, say you don't get it and then erase it. No matter what I never got full credit for hw even when I asked him about it. Tests=ridiculous. The only thing that saved me were his 10 pt quizzes.
i think he's a great teacher. he gives so much extra credit opportunities &if you arent going to do homework this class isnt for you. he drops ur lowest test & replaces the 2nd lowest with the final score if you do better. after every test he picks random problems from the test for a quiz &whatever score you get on it is added to ur test grade!
I thought he was a great professor. He knows his stuff, but that doesn't mean he makes it easy on you. You have to work for your grade but he will drop your lowest test score and giver you extra credit opportunities. I enjoyed his class.
I thought that his way of teaching made a lot of sence. He gives lottle tricks that make you remember.
I loved this teacher! He really is helpful, his study guides are just like his tests. He might scare the class saying not alot of people pass his 070 class but I got an A. Not to difficult just ask alot of questions, he wants to help. Do hw, attend class, pay attention, study, and you will do great with him
Luong Le is extremely helpful with algebra, but his homework assignments are very tedious. He gives quizzes as an extra credit for each test, and also place the final on the lowest test scores. His lecturing is very clear, but he does have an accent. As long as you attend everyday, you will pass. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR THIS CLASS!
I would recommend him to anyone who works hard in math. His class is not easy, but if you study and keep up with the homework you will be fine. Also, participate in his class because he will gets impatient if he asks a question and no one responds. He assumes no one knows what he's talking about at that point.
Very difficult teacher for community college. Can be intimidating at first but if you work through and understand the homework, you can pass Calc I. Exams are hard, but those scores won't necessarily reflect your final grade if you participate in class. Attendance is mandatory because anything he goes over can be on the exam. Makes too many errors
Professor Le is great role model for other math teachers, and really defines the concept of learning. He helps you to challenge yourself. He creates modern day correlations with the material that really helps you to retain information. If you are focused and dedicated take his class. You will never forget him.
Loved him weird guy, has his own way of teaching but I like it. He's funny and really wants us to learn what he's teaching. Tried to get into his 70 class sod that I couldn't
He is difficult but he is not unreasonable. Like any other class, just try your best and go get help when needed. He is really helpful and he definitely knows what he's doing most of the time. He's a funny, interesting, and knowledgeable man!
Work Hard, do all the homework, do all the review study guides for the test. Know your formulas. The first test is a killing field. Go to his office hours he is very helpful. Show up every day.
He has a heavy accent and sometimes makes mistakes on the board. But I honestly learned a lot from him, and would take him again. To do well in his class all you need is patience and to be serious, as well as doing the homework. If you do all that then it's easy, plus he's so funny. Genuinely wants his students to learn.
Work hard and he'll help you keep your grade up.
pretty hard but helpful
Le is infamous around CoC regarding his class difficulty. If you are majoring in mathematics, I recommend you take his class as he teaches math properly and will greatly strengthen your skills. Anything else, then I suggest you avoid him as you will have to dedicate a lot of time for his class. DO THE HANDOUTS! THEY ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE HW!
He tells you how to do find the right answer but does not explain why to do it. He discredits the book. Tells us to use his method which contradicts the book. His tests are ridiculously hard. He teaches sections which are not on the test. He consistently laughs at and insults students' intelligence. Nice guy, bad professor. Would not recommend.
All around terrible teacher. Tests are ridiculously hard because he doesn't teach the correct material. Managed to maintain an A throughout entire course until the final by teaching myself. Do not use any of his methods. Stick to the book and you should be fine. Figured out if you disregard everything he says and you teach yourself you do better.
Very very rude to his students. He always insults us by saying we belong in Math 070 implying that Math 070 students are unintelligent. Does not know how to teach so as long as you learn from the book and not from him and his lectures you should be fine. Ended with an 89 because of material he didn't bother to teach but he put on final. Work Hard!!
Tests are hard and tricky, but he gives lots of extra credit and drops lowest test score & replaces your 2nd lowest with your final exam score. Has a thick accent, so its somewhat hard to understand him. Take advantage of offce hrs! He's one of the funniest math teachers you'll ever have though - always uses pop culture references in his lectures.
Very intelligent, the material is hard but if you're willing to ask questions, he's willing to make sure you understand the material. Some people seem offended by his comments but he's just making a point to try harder through his dry humor. I think he's funny
Le is by far my favorite professor at COC. He has a teaching style that really gets you to understand the material, as long as you don't argue with him on it. Some people don't understand his humor, but he's hilarious when he relates concepts to mainstream media. Work hard, be serious about the class, and he'll make it hard for you to do poorly.
Best teacher I have had so far! He uses code names to make math easier to remember! He gives a lot of extra credit! He does a lot of examples in class and answers all homework questions! He's test are a bit challenging but if you put in the effort you will pass! He even does study guides to get you prepared for the test
Here I was breezing by most of my math courses, and then boom! walked in Professor Le. I thought I was good at math, but boy was this a rude awakening. My study habits have improved so much because of this guy, he will make you earn it! Now that I'm in my senior level math courses at CSUN, I'm very very grateful that he prepared me well.
If you can, try to take another professor for calculus. Le's teaching style centers around insulting the students and acting like they are all brain dead. I hardly learned anything from him and had to use the book all the way through.
If you want to go on to get a Ph.D in a math intensive field, this is the guy that will get you there. If you care about transferring to a prestigious school for UNDERGRAD, then take an easier professor. You can't expect to succeed in life by never learning how to come back from failure.
Professor Le really pushed me to work hard in his class. I never knew how much I understood math until taking his class. He made everything click. Although his class is tough and you have to work SUPER hard in his class, it was worth taking. He won't let you skate by his class with an A but I truly learned a lot from him.
I would avoid if at all possible. very difficult class, very strict grading on tests and just as difficult grading on homework. Not very clear and somewhat disrespectful to students with racial remarks. He does drop lowest test and replace with final, but his tests are hard. He makes lots of mistakes while lecturing and mumbles to himself.
Take another professor if possible. He was the only one available so I took him and had to withdraw because I wasn't learning anything, and I'm an A student. His tests are extremely hard, he's very condescending, he teaches irrelevant material and doesn't answer questions clearly. I don't like to leave bad reviews, but I regret taking him.
He is a good teacher, he will push you but it is worth it when you see the final.
Overall, he is a good teacher. He's old-school, so he does not believe in the happy, new age style of instruction; if he thinks you're screwing up, he'll say so. So, if you are sensitive, he may not be for you. He made me a little frustrated a couple times. He doesn't care about being popular, but I think he cares about his students learning.
Dont take his class for calc unless you have already taken it elsewhere/have some background in calculus. He is a very tough grader and wont fall for any BS work that might earn you points in another professors class. Go to class, do every HW problem(or you wont get any credit for the whole section), and you MIGHT pass.
Took Calc 2 with Le a few years ago. He is the gatekeeper of the math department. He may seem pretty terrible, but if you understand the math comprehensively, you should be able to get an A. His class is easy looking back after transferring/graduating. It only gets worse kids....
He makes you work for your grade but it's worth it. He is very helpful. He has you participate by doing problems on the board. He is a little harsh but his harshness makes you want to strive to be better if you're okay with criticism. He does require homework but the homework helps you extremely with the tests. I would take him again!
He is one of the most difficult professors here at COC. If you can avoid him, do it. He was the only one teaching 213 this semester and it did not go well. His tests are hard. He does not prepare you for his exams properly. He made me get used to failing exams. He is cool in office hours, but ridicules you in his class. Major independent study.
Avoid. You don't have to show up to the classes, except I would go when he talks about changing variables. Go to the review days, as they will generally increase your test grade by a letter. Make sure to read the book because Le explains poorly. He has good intentions of challenging the student body, but bad execution. This was the worst math class
Decided to take Math-70 over winter. Never doing that again, class was beyond tough. You have to dedicate time to study and do hw. Since the class was so impacted it was 3.25 hrs of class and like 3 hrs of hw. He gives you study guides and makes sure you understands the concept before moving on. If you take him get ready to work for your grade.
I checked ratemyprofessor before enrolling in his course but he was the only one available. I am an A student especially when it comes to math, but even with near perfect attendance, over 20 hours a week studying and watching youtube videos explain the lessons, I did not pass the class. Homework and review are nothing like the tests. Avoid!
I sat through Le's class for a week and another teacher's for a week (to crash), seeing the difference in teaching styles it was quick to see that i would have struggled very much if I had chosen him over the other teacher. when i asked questions, more questions arose, his explanation to my confusion was not helpful at all and further confused me
Mr. Le makes fun of students if they don't understand the material, he always like oh my god your math skills are so bad , how did you even pass math 060 etc. He always embarrass you in front of everyone .Will takes points off more than once for the same problem. Makes the problems longer than they need to be.
Don't take this dude for calc! Hes very messy with his penmanship and not only that his accent is horrible! Studied on my own the whole time. Did every extra credit and homework. He end up giving me a D+. Wth man before I took the final I had a C-. Watchout for his test hes a harsh grader one tiny mistake -10 pts out of 12. Take my advice and avoid
He is awful do not take!! I'm very good in calc but he just doesn't teach right I've spent most of the semester depending on my prior knowledge of calc but it doesn't help with him, he's a tough grader and he has tough tests beware
He's very funny but it's really hard to understand him at times. He means well and if you ask for help he'll be happy to help. Homework needs to be done well, he grades all homework and if you complete it all well you'll have a higher chance of passing. Do not fear poor grades on tests if you're just looking to pass, Final is the make or break.
Le is very helpful, clear, and understanding. The other reviews do not capture the entire picture. If you have the opportunity to take his class, make it your primary choice and you will not be disappointed. I would not hesitate to take him again.
Ok so I'm not the best at math but my last math class (060) was fairly easy. I went into taking 070 thinking that it would be difficult but I could handle it. Let me just say that this math class was so hard. I got D's on every test and if it wasn't for the homework and quizes I would have failed. By some miracle I passed. Hard teacher, be prepared
He lets you choose a day for a quiz and you only have about 4 Exams but there hard if you don't get the lectures so its important to pay attention because he uses the most of the examples that he lectures on for the Exams. There's also homework but not sure if he grades.
THis class was tough really tough. Its not a class to get an easy A but if you want to really learn and understand geometry you have to let yourself be taught by this proffesor. He is pretty funny and he makes mistakes. If you can convince him hes wrong or that there's a better way to do a problem, he'll give it to you. Tough grader! learned alot!
Tests are hard and he grades strictly. He expects you to show explicit work on everything and if you don't he will deduct points. If you take his class you'll need to study a lot cause he asks you to solve math problems during class and if you don't understand the material he'll make fun of you!
Do not take unless you are one of those students who can be self taught. He uses his own notes for each section but it's all straight from the book. He would get almost every problem wrong so class would have to correct but it was very confusing. Don't explain well. Just horrible. Nice guy though, but not a great teacher.
Worst teacher i have ever had. He explains things horribly. Has a thick accent. And grades test ridiculously. He takes points for EVERYTHING, even when you have the right answer and your work is correct.. It has to be to her standard or she will mark off lots of points. Horrible teacher.
Worst math professor ever.. Makes fun of his students for not knowing the material. Very rude and discouraging. Don't take him.
Le is one of the only professors I've taken outside the Cal State system and he has left spectacular impression on me for the rest of the staff at CoC. He cares deeply about your understanding of the material, but even so, the class is set up so it is incredibly easy to get a C. I wish I had Le for more of my classes to deepen my math competency.
Mr. Lee is an awesome teacher but he is definitely not easy. You do come out of that class learning a lot. I do recommend doing the online test prep as soon as he hands it out because some of those questions are whats going to be on the exams as well as homework questions. His exams are very precise so take a lot of notes, he is also a tough grader
Very tough grader, goes through every homework problem and must show all work even more than textbook asks for. Does not give extra credit but gives a chance to get 10 points back from tests. Recommend already knowing material somewhat before taking class with him moves very quickly.
Not recommended for first time Calc students. Provides poor feedback.
High emphasis on mathematical applications. Has good intentions, but critically poor execution. A decent person in office hours, stringent grader, and terrible teacher. Save yourself the grief and take the class with someone else.
He talks very fast and goes off tangent that which makes it very difficult to decipher what information is necessary to know and what is just fluff. Often times he breezes through steps with no decipherable explanation. He overly explains the simplistic things yet barely explains the important information.
His lectures are very BORING and sometimes difficult to understand because he often does not explains things clearly. Also, he goes off topic a lot, which can get annoying.
Very strong Chinese accent that makes it hard to understand him. He would go off and talk to himself about irrelevant topics. Horrible teacher, I love math but he just made me hate it. I do NOT recommend taking him for a math class.
If you struggle in math this is NOT the right teacher for you. Lectures are long and tedious often spending too much time on insignificant points with few problem examples. Tests questions are pulled from homework so if you do all the homework you might be ok.
A helpful tip is to just avoid this prof. all together, he's petty and foolish. If you don't conform your format to exactly what he wants he takes off huge amounts of points regardless of the right answer or even if clearly did it correctly. There is homework assigned and needed to be turned in every class and he is VERY picky to a stupid extent
This guy is the most nonsensical professor on the planet. Yes, he has a thick accent, but that should in no way impede his teaching quality. Fact is: he is a horrible professor who doesn't know how to teach. Math is taught in paragraph form here - no examples. Just formula and thereom. He promises to update his web page with resources but nope.
He doesn't teach well and his tests and quizzes are much harder than the homework he assigns. If you are good at math, take this class. If you want to learn, do not take this class: He expects students to know everything already. P.S. He'll laugh at you if you say the wrong answer in class.
Absolutely horrible teacher. Unbearably rude and unhelpful. Took my passion for Math and stomped on it. He is a miserable teacher to be around and 100% unhelpful in every way. STAY AWAY FROM HIM OR ANY OF HIS CLASSES
Irresponsible professor. We often had to wait for him to get ready at the beginning of class. Lame jokes. He thinks he's funny but he really isn't.
Le's class was the most difficult class I have ever taken. He teaches very complex material and gives the vibe that he thinks his students are pretty dumb. Beware that he will not help you outside of office hours or through email. He gave me the feeling I was wasting his time even during office hour. If you're not a math major, don't take him.
He would be a great professor for math majors but most people are not. His teaching is super fast paced and he hates answering questions. He likes to ask trick questions and make fun of whoever answered wrong. He should at least give homework credit since his tests are graded super hard. Don't take his class unless you are up for a challenge.
Halfway through the semester I gave up on learning anything from him and self-taught myself everything from the book, which is probably the only reason I was able to get a B. This class ruined my 4.0. He doesn't allow a cheat sheet on any tests and expects you to memorize every formula. You have classwork to turn in, so you can't miss class.
Wow. Mr. Le was both the hardest teacher i have ever had but also the most rewarding teachers. Hes also super funny. Very few professors add to the environment like he does but when the test comes be ready cuz his tests are meant to put ur money where ur mouth is. When u survive his class u will walk out truly knowing what its like to do math.
My sweet goodness, I have no clue how I managed to survive this beast of a class. You THINK you know "how2math" but when you get in here, you're going to feel like you've barely started adding. Study every night and do your hw. He's a genius, and willing to help you understand as long as you ask questions in class and visit his office hours.
There are a lot of horror stories surrounding Le, but taking him is definitely worthwhile - especially if you plan on transferring to a four year University. Unlike other teachers, he doesn't hold your hand, places a high value on knowing the material, and WILL challenge you. However, if you put in enough effort, you can get the grade you want.
He was challenging, but do you really expect universities to be any easier? To the class, he was condescending, but one-on-one he wasn't like it. If you're stuck with him because of your registration date and time, don't worry bc he's not a really bad professor. After every test, he gave us extra credit quizzes, so I hope that eases you up
I will be honest, professor Le does not explain the material well at all. You have to basically teach yourself through the book. He expects you to know it all so when he explains a problem to you it's not clear at all. He sometimes doesn't know how to do the problem himself! Basically, i recommend taking another class other than him!
Let me start of by saying he knows his stuff ... Sadly, that does not translate to being a good teacher.. When it comes to lectures, he is all over the place... Expect to get confused quickly... In my case most learning was outside of class.. He made easy understandable material seem hard.. Take class at your own risk
He is kind of nice, but highly unorganized. It would take him up to two weeks to grade our tests, and even then he would use the break to grade them. He often graded them wrong and we would have to show him what the true right answers were. Late on getting grades in. Late on giving us handouts or tests. Didn't finish book or course. Bad teacher
ONLY TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU HAVE GOOD MATH SKILLS! He will not explain in detail things you learned in the previous math class which i personally think would be hard if you are still confused about certain areas in math. However other than that the class was not that hard. Lots of homework & quizzes!
He grades hard and takes off points for trivial errors. Gets confused about his own problems, so he confuses the class. Has assigned nonexistant homework problems and has repeated homework problems. He seems nice enough, but don't take his classes if you don't already know the material or if you want a good grade.
His communication skills are so poor that it's pointless. He'd start on one topic and forget what he was doing midsentence and move on to a different example. He didn't know how to do half of the problems and mainly read from the book.
He is very rude: he makes fun of his students. He also doesn't teach well and doesn't like to answer question. He flies through examples in lecture, going at a pace no one can keep up with, and is unclear with what is expected from us as students.
Please don't take his class, find another teacher. I usually don't like to rip on professors, but this guy deserves it. Acts surprised when students haven't mastered material taught 5 minutes prior. Often pauses and stares at his own math in confusion and his problems on exam much more complicated than what he taught in class.
My biggest regret this semester is not listening to the warnings about professor Le. He's very mean, doesn't like to answer questions, often talks down to students and his lectures are all over the place. Good luck actually learning anything from this guy. A real disgrace to COC!
Maybe it's my high standards of math teachers, but this guy was terrible... If you don't understand something don't rely on him to explain it. He tries to brush you off, you're the least of his problems. I still remember in class, he refused to go over an example because we did one that was similar to it! Do yourself a favor and don't take him.
Take another professor if possible. He expects you to show explicit work on everything and if you don't, he will deduct points. He is somewhat disrespectful to students with racial remarks. Also, his structure is more confusing than helpful, and just trying to figure out what he's saying is a challenge.
Worst math professor I ever had! He makes fun of his students for not knowing the material. He doesn't teach well and his tests and quizzes are much harder than the homework he assigns. Also, he is very picky to a stupid extent.
Avoid his class at all costs!!! Even if you need this course take something else. Just save your GPA and your dignity
Le likes to ask trick questions and make fun of whoever answered wrong. He does not like to answer questions, and his exams are always harder than the homework. I got an ok grade but I would never take another class with him.
He often graded our homework wrong and we would have to show him what the true right answers were. When it comes to lectures, he is all over the place. He sometimes doesn't know how to do the problem himself!
Le takes points for EVERYTHING, even when you have the right answer and your work is correct. He would get almost every problem wrong so we would have to correct him. If you take his class you'll need to study a lot cause he asks you to solve math problems during class and if you don't understand the material he'll make fun you
This class was ridiculous. Professor Le was hardly helpful and extremely rude at times. He made fun of 2 kids in our class for not knowing the answer to his question, and said that college probably isn't for them. His jokes are lame and his & reviews are just him listing to bunch of stuff and not clarifying anything.
The class environment can be very discouraging. There were moments during class where no one understood the section he lectured on, yet he STILL expects us to know material & turn in work at the end of class. I was in the TLC literally every day. I had to teach myself, along with the help of the awesome tutors in the TLC.
Like pulling teeth. He seems like he just shows up because he has to. His voice makes you fall asleep within 2 minutes of lecture. When people asked questions about anything he just repeated himself and didn't make it much easier. Had to drop the class for the sake of my grade. Do not recommend.
Horrible teacher. Blows thru material like it's the end of the world. Doesn't slow down no matter how many students ask him to. Almost any question you ask is met with a reaction that says, "that's the stupidest question I've ever heard" (happened to a lot of students in our class, not just me). You practically have to beg for help.
Mean guy. Would not meet to discuss a question. Picked on people instead of taught them better. Went into the class loving the topic and began to hate it after.
Great teacher. Some think he may be hard to understand but he is very knowledgeable. Put in the effort and he will help you. Show up to every class because he goes by fast. Lots of homework, but right amount to get ready for test. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Relates topics to jokes to make it easier to understand.
I have no words to describe her. I spent a lot of my time in the TLC getting help because he does not teach very well. The homework is nothing like the exams; I almost felt that it was unnecessary to do the homework. He's very rude and doesn't like to answer questions.
His lectures were hard for me because in the middle of teaching he will break into a bunch of nonsense and then lose his place. He sometimes messes up while he is explaining a problem. You will have to teach yourself. He does offer study sessions where you go over test questions which can be helpful.
AWFUL class! I have always been a strong math student, but he has made math too complicated. He can barely finish a problem on the board without making mistakes. He is not helpful at all and gets aggravated when a student asks questions. If you are not good at teaching yourself DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
This class was awful. He will make you feel stupid for asking questions in class and then ask why you are in the class if you don't know the answer to the question. When explaining or teaching he skips steps and does them in his head so if you are a visual or step by step learner he completely loses you. would never recommend to anyone
The worst teacher I have ever had! Never explains anything, never helps, never answers questions, and he is extremely rude! He says he cares about the students, but what it really seems like is that he lives to give students a hard time and kiss up to the administration. Lots of HW, hard tests, and horribly ridiculous grader!
Great prof! Knows a lot and cares that you learn. This class takes a lot of work but it is possible to get a good grade. You must work hard but it pays off in the long run.
Probably the hardest calculus course. Takes time and don't expect to be idle. Would recommend to those who want to learn and are not lazy.
Knowledgeable and cares that students figure out stuff. Skip if you are not ready to spend hours studying. But this prof will make you know whats needed for the uni.
I do not know how to start to describe this teacher. Hhe is horrible, rude, disrespectful. He doesn't teach anything. He expects you to know everything about math, or he would make you look stupid. Simply he is the worst teacher I have ever had in my life, avoid taking his class. If you don't believe me try to take him class to see him closely
You will have to do a lot of studying on your own due to his lack of teaching ability but what he expects of his students is reasonable
By far the worst professor I've had at COC. Doesn't care about his students, nor does he teach, it rather seems like he is using lecture time to brag about how well he knows math himself. There is no doubt that he is an intelligent man, very well-versed in Math, however it is to little help when he doesn't even attempt transfer that knowledge.
This guy's rambling incoherent lessons are a disgrace to the math department. I don't know what grade I'm getting in this class, but neither does anybody else because he doesn't provide the grading system he uses. His tests are so ridiculous that they have to be seen to be believed. The problems in class don't reinforce the lessons in the book.
He was the best math teacher I had in a long time. His jokes helped me remember.
Hardest math prof. I learned most material from Youtube. Had to take his class because it is the only section available. Avoid if you can!
Goes off topic often, speaks in a low volume, can be difficult at times to understand. Lectures are slow paced. He shows work in a step-by-step method and he requires homework to be done this way. Good professor for students who like each step explained. Id avoid if you know geometry well or if you prefer a faster pace.
This professor is very tough. Not good for kids who don't understand the basics because his tests examine your ability to do the basics PLUS extremely hard applications of the basics. Do not take this class unless you have the time to do ALL the hw and practice probs. You must thoroughly understand the material if you want to pass.
Best math prof ever. If you do the honest work and give the effort to get the concepts then you really learn. For me the key is to understand every lecture then the same day do all the homework.
He is a terrible person above all. Very condescending towards students. He will confuse you even if you know your math. Worst teacher I've encounter so far. Don't take him, there are far better teachers than him that actually care for their job and want to give knowledge to students
He is not a good professor at all, his lectures is mostly complaining about his students and ridicules. Beware this professor and don't take him for the sake of your GPA.
Aside from having a generally negative disposition towards his students, he assumes you already know algebra. I remember asking him a question in class and feeling ridiculed for it because we sat in silence until, after a long awkward pause he finally decided to explain it. His methods are unclear, test are hard and he talks down on students
I've never failed a test in college, but I failed Le's first test and almost failed the second. However, he gives you so many chances to catch up that I still got an A in the class. If you want a challenge, feel very confident in your math skills, and won't be bothered by some taunting from the professor, then don't be scared to take this class.
I sat in front every day and did not miss one class. I am in Dsps so I take exams in the TLC and he was completely accommodating of this. I went to his office often and there he will help you understand with his white board. Days I didn't need to go to class because of an exam I would go to his office anyway and turn in assignments. Do hw extracrd
Whole class was struggling since the material is really hard but he was farely lenient on retesting. You would have to do the homework as well if you want to get a good grade, even if you do poorly on the test. His class did make me cry after some lectures though because I was so lost, looking back though, he wasnt TOO bad.
Really great professor. Take math from him if you can, you learn a lot. Do what he tells you to do and you can get an A.
Don't take this class if you aren't motivated by your failures. Le likes to remind us that we are not invincible. He gives a lot of hard problems to make sure we actually know how to apply the calc. My study group was averaging around 60's on the tests. He offers extra credit for pre-tests and retakes, & hw is graded, so As are still attainable.
He is the worst Math teacher I have ever had. Do not take his class, I am warning you. The guy just doesn't know how to teach and his tests are really hard.
Professor Le's class was the hardest class I have ever taken. Ever. Le expects you to remember everything from pre-calc, and fusses if anyone asks him to repeat himself. Do not take him if you don't have to, seriously. Only 3 people passed his first test, and 10 people only pass his class on average. He doesn't motivate students, only fails them.
He's a great professor, he's really nice, gives plenty of feedback and extra credit. There's a decent amount of homework, but that's the same coursework for every other 070 class. You won't fail this class because of him, if you fail his class, it's on you.
Professor Le's lectures are very confusing. I ended up learning most of the material from the tutors in the TLC. His tests are ridiculously hard and he takes points off even if you get the question right. On the bright side, he offers a TON of extra credit so its not too hard to pass. Looking for an easy A? stay away from his class.
Dont even think about taking his class unless you are willing to spend almost all of your free time studying outside of class. Lectures rarely made sense, the tutors in the TLC could teach you what he attempts to in half the amount of time. Grading is extremely harsh, BUT he does offer a lot of extra credit, probably the only reason why I got an A
So, many negative reviews are founded in some truth of perspective. His grading is very fair as the tests mimic the practice tests, and he has a quiz with the same questions on the test to redo some problems. If you do all the work, you should have little problem to at least pass. He's also very helpful during office hours.
Literally so bad at teaching. Doesnt explain and just does the work. He expects you to understand everything. Hes also not good at English.
Trust me, Just dont take his class
If Calculus 1 isn't your terminal math class as an undergrad and you took AP Calculus in high school, this guy is for you. If you're not both of those things, find anyone else to take Calc 1 with. He's not terrible, he's just completely indifferent to what's actually useful to students - you will reproduce his sense of math, or you will fail.
Do not take this class unless youre willing to teach yourself every lesson and end with a B. This professor to be very inconsiderate of his students. As a student who always takes notes and studies endlessly, he would tell us after each exam about the Calc 2 problems he put on our exams. Hence, why every student would not pass his exams.
If I could give him a negative review, I would, because he should not be a professor. He is an extremely harsh grader and takes off points at every possible opportunity. He makes so many mistakes during lecture and students frequently correct his powerpoint. I wish I took another professor because he is easily the worst professor I have ever had.
doesn' do computers. offers no notes online or reviews. VERY!!! thick Chinese accent. He jokes but he is not in your court when it comes to class he has you vs me mentality. It almost scares me to see how he treats students that need genuine help because he blows you off if you're behind and he can be outright aggressive at times if u ask 4 help.
As the previous reviews indicated he is passive aggressive and has a me vs you mentality. He frequently makes mistakes and gets mad when students correct him. His tests do not reflect what he teaches during the lecture nor whats assigned as homework. If you do take the class make sure you are extremely detailed on the tests, or he will take points
Professor cares about the students and wants everyone to pass in order to make himself look better. Only good thing is he gives extra credit through the HW. DONT take his class at all looking for an A. I am in Math 104 and have friends who are in Calc 3 saying he is teaching material that belongs in their class along with the other Calc classes.
Professor Le is very very unorganized, his class relies almost entirely on the old textbooks of his choice for homework and most of the learning material as his lectures are barebones and not available online so if you miss something during the lecture you're screwed. Only take this class if you're prepared to teach yourself the entire course.
He doesn't explain well & grades very harshy. I and others in my current class taught ourselves some things in order to do decently. He marks off points if the problem isn't done how he wants yet his lectures make it super unclear lack of communication and inconsistent when publishing assignment turn-ins, which led to some students missing a turn i
I had him for Pre calculus in fall 2019. He was okay but a bit hard to understand. He taught what was needed and moved quizzes if we needed more time. He was funny and had memorization techniques that helped. I would not take him again though.
Dont take this Professor, hes a living nightmare...
Nice, smart man but this professor was a really bad lecturer because he goes super fast and honestly it is sometimes hard to understand what he says. Inconsistent, tough grader on tests and quizzes. I got a B in the class even though I averaged a D on the exams and quizzes . Turn in HW and Pretests to bump up the grade he calculates with the curve
I think the negative reviews are an unfair representation of this teacher. A lot of students in the class are fresh out of high school and not prepared for college-level coursework. Don't skip class. His English has a heavy accent, but he is concise and understandable. His quiz/tests have problems that are designed to make your math skills better.
Openly brags that almost half of his students fail his class/exams, very hard to understand his writing and accent, and doesn't even record lectures which sucks since he goes through the material pretty fast.
Does not answer questions well and will insult you in the process, then wonders why no one wants to participate. Loves calling students lazy but doesn't give feedback when grading, so points off seem arbitrary. Apparently complaints are common but no one cares. They'll help you get out of the class though. Be ready to teach yourself.
blaming the students for having bad grades and creating a negative atmosphere for the class. please DO NOT take his class for your own good.
one of the worst professors I've ever had. gives attitude when you ask a question, then complains when no one participates. you're better off learning off of youtube videos tbh. gives partial credit if you show work on exams but doesn't explain why he took off points. Avoid at all costs!
So unprofessional that they were at least 5, and at most 20 minutes late to every lecture. Was not competent at all with Zoom. Grading criteria was so unclear that many students didn't know why they were losing points. Heavily deducted points for using calculators in *homework* as well as exams. We could not skip any steps in showing work.
Professor Luong Le was my worst professor I have taken. It is difficult to understand him and his lectures, so any help he offers was not helpful. His tests were not that hard but then he takes points off for the most trivial things. He even proudly said the average for his tests was 60%. He didn't know how to use zoom. I wish I could say more.
He is a great teacher if you are a stem major and need to know calc. he offers a lot of extra credit to make up for how difficult his exams are. He really cares about his students and wants you to pass you just need to put in the effort. i would ignore the bad review they do have some ground but they ignore the amount of help he gives his students.
Um do not take his class unless you want to fail. I walked in the first day and these were the first two things he said: Homework is incredibly important A 50 on a test is good... Not something you want to hear. He is very hard to understand, gets upset when asked a question, makes you feel very small, and grades incredibly hard.
This Professor seems to always be rushing tests even when his students are ready for them. He will mark points off if your work is done by a different method. His tests are hard and says anything above a 50 is good. He grades the hw very hard which will bring down your grade, most kids would get a 13/20 on it and will not always answer hw questions
I think Mr lee is a good and kind man but I would never take a class like this again. During the lectures, he constantly makes mistakes and is constantly corrected by his students. This teacher gives out way too much homework that is very time-consuming and not related to the tests in any way. He gets 2 stars because he will drop your lowest test.
Beware of this Professor. I have never struggled in math before like I have with this instructor. Unclear expectations, trick questions on tests, and poor communication define this teacher's style. He proudly states that he doesn't want his students to pass, and seems to get a perverse enjoyment over watching them struggle. I would give him a 0/5.
He's a nice man, I think people are lazy and are tough on him.
He has a bad rep because he expects a lot of his students & is tough. Students might find him rude and harsh, but if you're not familiar with "tough love" then you probably wont like him. If you really want to learn the subject and actually earn your grade then this guy is it. Just learn his way of teaching, do HW, and practice SG's. He's good.
Prof Le's classes are highly recommended for math or engineering majors. The class is challenging, but it helps to learn the fundamentals of mathematics. Exams are hard but worth taking. Total extra enough to cover the loss. Committed students standing by to elevate their skills and yours. Students in COC are lucky to have Professor Le on campus.
Genuinely thought I would be able to survive his class by constantly reviewing his notes and the chapters, but nothing would work. Asked for too much on his exams and got frustrated with everyone if we didn't understand, but never clarified himself. Students would have to constantly correct him at times. Not a fan of his style of teaching at all.
There were times when it was a struggle to understand what he was teaching, but he definitely taught me a few things that I will continue to use in the future. He taught me a lot of different ways to solve problems and ways to remember things. He was a tough grader though so beware. Make sure to study after the lecture on your own to keep it fresh.
For the tests, I would highly recommend doing the study guides he gives out. Also, don't turn in late assignments.
This was by far the worst teacher I took at COC. He gave no help and it was so hard to understand anything he said. He basically just copied the notes online in class and that was it. He would call us stupid and tell us how terrible we are. Would never recommend or put anyone through what we had to go through.
Was very rude and did not explain well. You have to ask for him to explain the lesson or he will just show the notes.
I still remember the first time I took Prof. Le for Calc 1, he gave us the most amazing pep-talk before the semester started. He can be comedic but a stern orator. I enjoyed going to his class every time just to amuse myself. The exams he gives are challenging, but doable. If you prefer mastering the subject rather than grades, then take his class.
He was actually really good, if you pay attention to his lectures and ask questions to him, he cares about making sure that people understand the topics, do the homework and do the extra credit you will do fine
I strongly advise you never to choose this teacher
I strongly advise you never to choose this teacher!
Expect significant amounts of homework and little to no useful feedback as well as a lack of mathematical rigor in explanations. Don't recommend!!
I don't think this professor is a bad guy. I just don't think he's a very good teacher. At least not for me. He has a very heavy accent, make frequent mistakes, gives too much hw that doesn't match the tests, grades the tests more than hw, teaches the class like you've already taken calc, etc. Be prepared for no social life if you take this class!!
Aside from having too many homework and the heavy grading, I honestly think that the professor wasn't so bad. Quizzes are extra credit and so are the visits to the TLC. If you are taking the professor (for you to pass the class), do the extra credit pre-tests (What's in there will most likely be on the test) and ofc, the homework.
the prof is a good man. and no his accent is not the problem it is not even that bad. He just makes a little mistakes then and there and following through his lectures are a bit hard. Take a diff prof but don't disrespect prof Le he's a nice man trying his best (i think)
As a mathematics major, this class only had a little correlation to relevancy in my future endeavors. Whilst applying math concepts, he majorly focuses on incorporating non-math concepts that aren't relevant to hall. You will find insanely large amounts of homework that take days to complete and average test scores as high as 51%. Good luck.
Mr. Luong Le was probably the worst teacher I've ever had. He would make fun of students, crack offensively inappropriate jokes, & bragged about how hard his class was and how only 2 students ever got an A in the history of his class. He was so bad at teaching that he added 20% to every test score just so that enough students would pass. Beware.
If you registered or planned this class you should remove it IMMEDIATELY. This professor is not good, with the first exam coming up he told the whole class he was scared for us. And that we will fail. His lectures sometimes do not correlate to the homework. Overall, awful class and awful professor.
Did in college apps szn, BRUTAL. 15+ hrs/week, self-study. Marked down from 90% -> 60% because I didn't solve the problems 'his way,' had to solve everything EXACTLY like in class for credit, forced to go to lecture. Only saving grace is 10-20 pts extra credit/test, avg 50%. Started with 30, 10 at end, only 2 As. Being good at math won't help you.
His in-class notes were extremely messy and hard to follow. He made mistakes constantly, sometimes without fixing them. Very tough grader, as he expects you to complete every problem a certain way, but won't explain the correct method. Homework felt like a chore, and was sometimes unrelated to anything on the exam. Overall worst I have ever taken.
Mr. Le was nice for the first week, then he snapped. He got really bad once we started inverse trig functions. His methods of teaching can be very difficult, as he doesn't accept any other methods. To reiterate, my friends and I, have all come to a conclusion that there are much better methods of learning, and in his sense, teaching. Not very good.
Very hard grader, if not done his way it's wrong, tests worth practically your whole grade, homework with 200+ problems that take hours to complete, hard to follow lectures while expecting you to know the material before entering the class. If you're taking this class, say goodbye to your social life as it takes 10-12 hours weekly to pass.
Luong Le should consider retiring. Awful teacher, does not teach well at all. Very condescending. He preaches about how he taught in the UC system for 5 years, I am more then certain he got fires because of how bad of a Professor he is. DO NOT take him.
DROP THE CLASS WHILE YOU CAN. You are expected to know the lesson when you come to class. The lectures have nothing to do with the homework assigned. If the problem is not done his way it is considered wrong. I had to drop the class because I didn't understand after getting tutored and asking him for help. Please be ready to lock in or drop.
I would not recommend this professor. He's disrespectful to confused students once causing a loud argument between him and a student during an exam over a technical difficulty, assigns long irrelevant homework, and grades harshly. He lacks the right temperament to be a professor, especially at his age. Do not take if you can!
please do not take this guy he assigns so much hw thats not even correlated with his tests. whenever you want to hate him you end up feeling bad because of his old age which is just annoying. first week he may seem sweet and easy but please change profs
Anyone who is taking a heavy math major should take Le. Very difficult class but good study guides. This class forced me to study. Make sure to do all hw every point matters. He has tough love and high standards but he cares plenty. He gave me a good base in calculus and actually made me enjoy math. Outside help encouraged. Do everything he assigns
horrible teacher literally makes us calculate factorials instead kf lettig us use calcs
Please drop his class he literally is the worst professor ever. He assigns a textbook and even calls it stupid and when we follow the hw just like the textbook, he'll say that was wrong which is like why are you even assigning the book in the first place? He expects or wants you to know algebra already and he assigns so much hw its crazy. good luck
run. even if this class is mandatory for you and you need to take it. just dont. its not worth it. trust. literally any other solution than taking his class would be better.
At first I felt bad because he is working at his old age but he is very rude in general. In front of another student he made a rude comment towards me which was,“ let me help you, she is gonna ask to many questions”, even though I'm asking the same questions as the other student was asking. I don't recommend his class to anyone.
He grades harder than AP classes, but believe me, coming out of this class you WILL understand the math on a deep level. And you'll still get an A. He's not the type to give free points, but he isn't bragging about how many fail either. He will learn you a thing or two about linear algebra. He also gives plenty of extra credit.
MUST TAKE, if you ACTUALLY want to conceptually learn Linear Algebra; he forces you to learn at a level where conceptual understanding is more important than just pure computation. He offers a ton of extra credit that will give you multiple chances to succeed in this class. His lectures are so entertaining that you never want to miss a class.
