I only had him for a Problem Sovling Session. However, let me put it this way, my other Chem Teacher (Dr. Anderson) was very unclear, and very difficult. The one day a week with Lou's class got me back on track weekly. He is an awsome teacher.

Very clear on all the topics he taught. If you didn't understand it he would do the problem you didn't understand on the board. Its not that hard to get an A in his class.

I thought lou was a great professor. He was very clear and I've only studied for a total of 6 or 7 hours and never used the book. He has notes online that you print off before class. If you pay attention and attend class, an A should be to hard.

Lou does an amazing job. It's not easy but if you go to class and do the work you can get a good grade.

Giddings is a GREAT teacher. I took this test online, and we used his lecture notes book, which is easy to understand. He is also really good at answering questions promptly. He only tests from what is in his notes. It is very clear what information will be on the test. He is awesome! I would take any class from him again.

I took his online class and loved it! He is very helpful and truly wants the student to succeed. He is not an easy teacher, but you know your stuff when you are done. He is also willing to meet with students individually or as a group to review/clarify concepts, which I would highly recommend. He also has a great personality!

The online class is pretty hard, but Lou is an excellent teacher. He is very clear as to what he expects and he truly wants you to succeed. He is very active on the message board and promptly responds to all questions. I'd definitely take a class from him again!

I took chemistry online from Dr. Giddings and it was so convenient. I also had to meet with him regularly and he was always very nice and accommodating. He wanted me to succeed and if I seemed puzzled about something he wanted to help me understand. I recommend taking Chemistry from Dr. Giddings.

This class was way hard! But he was always willing to answer any questions. His notes are a must they are very helpful and I would not waste the money on the textbook.

I took this class online. Oh man, it was hard. Lu has very good notes but the only way I got my B+ was because I had a really good study group. I feel I would have gotten a better grade in a physical classroom because I learn better with someone showing me, rather than just reading. GOod professor, just online Chem is not to be underestimated.

Awesome professor. He has a good sense of humor, which makes his lectures fun. He knows his stuff and explains things very clearly. The homework he assigns really helps but doesn't bog you down with work. Highly recommended.

He's a good, fun, nice professor, but his tests are very challenging. He does allow to regrade for half credit, which is awesome. Not all material is covered in class, and needs to be learned in online homework, and quizzes. Going to class is probably a good idea, if you want a good grade, because a lot of material covered there is tested on.

By far the hardest class I have ever taken. I don't have any interest in Chem, so that didn't help. Lu is a very genuinely nice man who loves his job and wants each student to understand. The homework load is moderate, but the tests are incredibly hard. The average on the final was 59.4%, so if you want an easy A, look elsewhere.

I took this class online. It definitely required a lot of staying. The quizzes aren't too bad since you can take them all multiple times but the 2 midterms and final he gave were challenging. His lecture notes are very helpful and he responds very quickly to online questions and is very helpful. You have to study to get a good grade but he's fair.

He is the best teacher one can possibly get for a chem course, my major does not require me to take more than gen. chem. however i will be taking more chem. from him that's for sure. If you took this class and did bad on it, its your fault not the teacher, there is work to do but he makes it soooooo easy, i give him a perfect 10.

I took online 1110 from Lu, you will only get out of this class what you put into it. Lu is always willing to help/answer questions/ meet with you if you need it, but you have to ask for help. His lecture notes are priceless, 3x5 notecard, regades on the midterms will help your grade but only if you take the time to do it! It is labor intensive!!!!

Lu was fantastic! I have never had any exposure to Chemistry & was scared to death at the thought of taking it online. This class was tough, but Lu & his lecture notes were a great asset. I have to take Human Physiology & Human Anatomy next semester & this class has made me wish those were online. Put in the appropriate effort & you will do great!

Great teacher! His tests are really hard but he is very helpful when you have questions or don't understand the material. He is super nice and as long as you attend the class and study from the notes you will pass this class.

Does a fantastic job teaching. Things couldn't be more clear. His tests are EXTREMELY difficult since they are Scantron - so no partial credit. I definitely understand chemistry now.

The BEST teacher I have ever had!! If I didn't understand something he worked with me until I did. His tests are quite hard but he tells you that at the beginning, but you do get to have a reference card that you make to use (at least when I took it). Seriously an amazing teacher!

Yes tests are hard, just like every science class. He lets you re do your missed ?'s for more credit! Lu is awesome! You know what material to expect on tests, he tells you how to recognize every type of problem, just pay attention in class. He has detailed notes to help you, always goes out of his way to make sure entire class is understanding. A+

Unusual professor. I took the course online and he would respond the same day to most posts. Very liberal grading 88% gets you an A-. He lets you redo the test questions you miss for half credit and take a 3x5 card full of notes into the tests. If you take his class you can probably get by with just the lecture notes. Rarely used the textbook.

I really like him. He was always there for any help I needed but the class was hard I had to study very hard get the material down cold, the one thing I used for his test was "what is he asking for" that always help me with his test question, you where aloud to redo the test for 1/2 credit + your original grade, so hard yes but very helpful

Luther's a very detailed teacher. to all the people who are crying about how tough his class is, it's because he teaches at a UNIVERSITY level. He doesn't give you a break just because your in a community college. Overall his class was rather easy.

Lu is an awesome professor. Chemistry is a hard class so it really doesn't matter who you take it from. I took both Chem 1210 and Chem 1220 at the same time last semester and did pretty well. Lu is willing to help so if you have any questions, just ask and you'll get your answer!

Bottom line, difficult, but DO-able.I took this course online.Giddings'lecture notes are key.You could probably get by without the textbook. Basically,if you study hard and do every quiz,every assignment,and both midterm regrades,you can get a good grade.You really can't 'coast by' in this class.You gotta do the work.In the end, you'll be happy.

Dr. Giddings is a great Chem teacher. He knows his stuff well and is willing to help. He teaches with clarity and adds some extra info about what goes on in the Industry here and there. His tests can be tricky but if you attend all his classes and do all the quizzes and tests, you will be fine.

Professor Giddings is by far the best teacher that I have had at SLCC. He really cares about his students and wants us to learn the material. Yes his tests are really hard but he offers a regrade which helps tremendously. Do all the homework Mastering Chemistry and Vista quizzes and you will do fine.

Luther's class is hard and takes a lot of effort but a good quality he has as a teacher is explaining how to work the problems and showing multiple examples of each concept. I think he gives you the grade you worked for which is true with a lot of professors.

Best professor I have ever had. Bottom line is that if you have any desire to continue on with science classes you need to know your stuff, he will get you prepared. As long as you work hard you will get an A, put in a half assed effort and you will get a half assed grade. If you listen to him you will be ready for whatever class you have next!

I only used his lecture notes, so wish I wouldn't have bought a textbook too. He is a great teacher! Never minds explaining anything and responds in good time. The way he writes quizzes helped me pick up on the "little things". I thought he was very fair in grading. Glad I took from him, walking away with a clear understanding/good foundation!

He is a very very smart professor and knows tons about chemistry. His class however is tough you cover tons of material and the exams are hard. But he is willing to help at anytime!

Lu is definitely one of my favorite professors at SLCC so far. He explains things in an easy way to understand. The Quizzes and Test are challenging, but he's very fair with grading. Besides that, he is a nice guy with a sense of humor.

I did poorly in Gen Chem I (got a C) and was terrified to continue but Lu is AMAZING! His lectures are very thorough and he spends a lot of time practicing problem solving with the class. His tests are very hard, but I would definitely take another class with him in a heartbeat.

Love this professor! It's hard as hell, but only because he makes you apply yourself and is detail oriented. However, his notes are a life saver, and he really cares about students who care to learn chemistry. So far he is the best professor at SLCC. Love him!

Took the class online and Lou was very helpful. Was prompt in responding to emails. You could take a quiz online 4-10 times if you needed. I had taken Chem before at other colleges so I was familiar with the material. If it's your first time taking it, don't take it online. You'd do better being in class. His notes were all I needed. No book.

No slackers in this class, you have to read and practice everything until you really understand the concepts, or you will not pass the exams. Hard work, but worth it. He really wants you to succeed.

Professor Giddings is a nice and patient guy who is passionate about chemistry. He knows his stuff and he is very good at explaining things if you don't understand. His tests are a little difficult, but he lets you correct them for half the points back which is awesome. If he teaches Gen Chem II, I will be taking it with him. Highly recommended.

I absolutely loved this professor. I only showed up to class about 90% of the time, and I still was able to pick up everything. I haven't even opened my textbook this semester. His tests are somewhat difficult, but he gives you the opportunity to make up half the points. He is very very very clear at explaining concepts.

Lou is a wonderful professor, I recommend him to anyone who is new to chemistry. He is one of the best professor's that SLCC has to offer. He is incredibly clear in teaching concepts, his tests really test your knowledge but are very fair. Loved his class.

I absolutely LOVE Lu's class. I 'm a big fan of chemistry already, but he makes it so simple. He doesn't try to teach you things you don't need to learn about yet. I'm not going to lie - this is a TOUGH class! I took it online, but Lu was the best. He lets you re-do any problems missed on a test for 12 credit. He is quick to respond to emails or posts. He wants his students to succeed, but you have to work for it. There is no sliding through this class. Do the work, read the texts and study!

This class has been my favorite so far. Honestly, it is very difficult but seriously it's college, expect things to get difficult. You have to work for an A in this class, expect to put in many hours, and he is very upfront about this fact from the beginning. If you aren't serious about this class then you will easily fail.

I would recommend Lu 10/10. He was an amazing professor. All you have to do for his online class is take a quiz for the chapter and do mastering chemistry. His tests are upfront, multiple choice, and you can do a regrade for half credit on questions you missed. He really is so understanding, and lots of help!

Lou is probably better as an in person instructor than he is online. I had Gen Chem 1. The homework was easy if you read the chapter, but reading the chapter and doing the homework will not get you through this class. You also need to read the lecture notes and study the content independently (videos online etc.). No reliable guide for the tests.

Chemistry II is no easy class, but Giddings makes it as bearable as it can be. Lectures that can be viewed away from class help a ton, his style of teaching is incredible. I had to miss a lot of class toward the end of the semester and still, thanks to his lecture recordings, passed without trouble. Highly highly HIGHLY recommend.

I took Giddings for Ten Chem 1 and 2 and absolutely loved his classes, very clear and easy to understand. We used mastering chemistry for our homework and would let us do test correction for extra points....

I felt like Professor Giddings really cared about us and wanted us to succeed. His lecture notes are very thorough and he responds to almost every question posted on the discussion board. It is chemistry, so it is tough and you have to practice a lot, but as far as the professor goes I was really happy with him.

Lu giddings is the BEST chem teacher ever. You have to take it from if if you want an A. 2 exams and 1 final. Lu lets you redo the exam for better score. There is a online quiz for every chapter but you get 3 tries. If i didn't take Chem from Lu I wouldn't have passed. TAKE HIM you LOVE it!!!!

If you want to get an easy A or even just an easy pass don't take Lu. If you really want to try to learn the subject material take him. He's excellent. His tests are brutal but, very good.

I took Chem1100 online from Lu. I think people may find Lu a bit arrogant due to his comments about studying hard or you won't pass kinda stuff-I think he wants to prepare people for how much time needs to be spent. It's a tough class, but do all the HW and quizzes. He also lets you regrade tests for half credit, which saved me. He is a great guy.

Lu is a great professor. I had a work conflict early in the semester but he posts the lectures online so I was able to keep up with the class all the way through. The tests are difficult, and there is homework due on each chapter from the text book, but he covers everything in the lecture. Be ready to study, and DO NOT miss one assignment!

Giddings exam are not the easiest however if you focus on his lecture and do your homework you should do fine. He's also very sweet and inspirational. I'd say he's my favorite professor.

Lu was awesome. He gives really hard but fair tests. His grading scale makes it very easy to get a B but hard to get an A. If you do all of the homework, canvas quizes, and test regrades (for half points back). you will not get any lower than a C. I have seen people do very poorly on the tests and still pass with decent grades.

I'd start off with saying many people probably don't like him. This class is tough. I also think it is the material aswell. His tests are hard but he lets you use a note card on them. Study and go to class, DO your homework and you should be fine. An A is earned, you have to study. I loved his lectures though and he is very willing to helpif youask

Lu really knows his theory and explains concepts thoroughly. My only gripe with him was that he went through the first few chapters extremely slowly. He shows tons of examples and often begins class around 5 minutes late, so the last few chapters are a little rushed.

He is a really smart guy and a good teacher. It is very clear what you have to do to get a good grade in this class. 20% on Mastering chemistry homework. 20% on online chapter quizzes. 15% on each of 2 midterm exams. 30% on the final. He offered some extra credit opportunities and allowed you to use a periodic table and a 3x5 card on each exam.

Pro Tip:DON'T TAKE CHEM ONLINE! Chem is just hard! Lu is the best chem teacher I ever had. Does tons of examples. explains stuff very well. DON'T BE A ROOKIE STUDENT. spend $10 to print notes,then write-in extra notes/examples in class. he helps you find lowest MC $ for what you need. Chemistry is a hard class in general. It is harder online. He genuinely cares about your success in his class. You get a 3x5 notecard on tests. You get 4-5 attempts on each quiz. He lets you do test corrections. He responds to emails and discussions fairly quickly. He does not get bothered if you ask him for help. I highly recommend him.

He has audio from past lectures and makes new audio during classes that is available within a week. The exams have few questions but are heavily weighted. You are not likely to earn an A, even if you always earn an A in the rest of your classes. He will prepare you for state exams.

I'm a 4.0 student and this class was exceptionally challenging for me... The amount of reading you have to do per chapter is UNREAL. Tests are heavily-weighted. Homework software makes it hard to get full-credit. But, he does give about 4 chances for all 13 quizzes & you get a 3x5 card for tests. Lu is very knowledgeable, this is just a hard class.

Online CHEM is hard! It takes discipline to learn the material. Lu acknowledges the level of difficulty and the work it takes to get a "A/B" grade. Heed his advice and you will do great. Do menial work- you will see it your grade. If you don't have 10-20 hours a week to sit and do the work, pick a classroom setting. I imagine Lu rocks in class too!

Giddings is absolutely brilliant! I love when great professors like him opt to teach the beginner classes to help us gain a strong foundation. He does an awesome job making it easier by providing pre-lecture/ in-class notes on audio. There's a quiz /mastery for each ch. along with 2 midterms and a final. I highly recommend Giddings!

REALLY GOOD TEACHER! From someone who's failed chem 3 times in the past. Quizzes are online, open note & multiple attempts so they're hard but fair. Lets you re-do wrong exam answers for 1/2 points back. Records lectures so attendance is optional but if you're like me, you won't ever actually sit through them, and you'd miss his quips and stories.

Lu Giddings is an incredible! This is not an easy class and the material is hard but Prof. Giddings basically wrote a book that he gives you for free that makes learning this material achievable. You have got to study and work hard but he definitely knows how to teach this material. If you want an easy A this isn't for you!

One of the best science profs I've had, esp being online. Very concise about grading and what to expect on exams. Expect difficulty and lots of studying because chemistry isn't an easy subject (which Lu totally gets) . As long as you study his examples and understand how to work the concepts, you'll be able to work any of his problems on exams.

I took chem online from Lu, and I'm really glad I did. His lectures are incredibly interesting, the class is self paced, and he even offers a regrade on the test questions you missed for half credit. The class is tough, you really have to work for your grade, but I felt like I got something out of it and to me it was so worth the work.

It's true, Dr Giddings teaches you all exceptions to chemistry rules. Allows 2x5 on exams, wrote 30 pages (12pt) for MT1 extra credit, barely had time for MT2 extra credit (would have bumped my grade up). He actually reads extra credit papers . I would retake him, since I have a better idea of what will not be on his test and have copies them too.

Chemistry is such a hard class but Lu really knows his stuff and he makes himself accessible outside of class which helps a lot. I liked his class because it's straight forward.

I honestly don't know why this professor has so many bad reviews. He tells you exactly what he expects of you in the syllabus. He has his own text book so it makes it easier to know what he wants you to know on his tests. He does not give a ton of work. He is caring and really wants you to learn the material.

This class required some iron-clad study habits and a lot of self-motivation. It was difficult not because the content was too complex, but because I had to be very organized and attentive with due dates and watching lectures. Mr. Giddings's class announcements can sound intimidating, but don't be afraid to ask for help. He's very kind and helpful.

I really like Professor Giddings! I took both Gen Chem 1 and 2 from him. Chemistry is a tough subject, but his lectures are easy to follow and he takes the time to make sure his students understand the material. That being said, he does expect his students to put in the work. His class will not be an easy A, but he's a great teacher.
