mean. also known as the Spanish Nazi.
I was going to be a Spanish major. I've taken 4years of spanish before her class and tested out of 101 because the teacher I had for that class said I was too advanced for the class. I got a D with this teach. I couldn't understand what she was saying half the time. I have already told friends no.
I had this teacher years ago, and I have noticed that the people who don't like her are the same people who make the bad grades because they refuse to study. When will you people realize that to learn, one must study?! I love her!
102 is an extention of 101, not a separate class. She expects that you know the info learned from 101. She works through the book slowly and her tests are EASY. The ones who don't like her are the ones who don't study or refuse to review the 4 chapters from 101. However, her classes are boring.
she is very hard. not a great teacher at all. if you do not know the answer she just stares at you and make you fell like you are the stupidest person in the world. i recommend not taking her at all.
She is extremely hard, unhelpful, and you can't understand what she's saying. Her english is crappy. She doesn't understand what you tell her. If you don't know the answer, she gets mad and makes you look completely stupid. She expects you to be fluent and it is a beginner class. Don't take her!!!!
She keeps you on the ball by oral practice every single day. If you don't review/study, you'll end up feeling stupid in the class. 600 possible points, 3 tests at 100 points a piece. Do your homework and study and there is no way you can make a bad grade. Also, she gives 30 possible bonus points! She may seem tough, but you will learn a lot.
She was mean to me when I asked her for help. SHe basically told me that there was nothing she could do to help me. I would never take her again.

Students do not take this professor EVER! Not recommended!!!!Not even a tutor will help you!
i love learning spanish and ive never made lower than an A in it since high school and i failed her class. i just didnt pay attention tho. i dont think that she helps and has made me feel stupid for asking things. but if you just do ALL of the homework and study youll do fine. dont slack!!!! shes strict.
She knows the material well. She is understanding. She strongly believes her students should know spanish from 101. I like her as a teacher, if you want to learn Spanish she will give you te challenge
Good teacher with a good sense of humor. Kind of strict on her mothods, but is still willing to work with you.
she does not care about her students like she claims she does. Can be disrespectful at times when she thinks noone is listening to her.
She told us a bunch of stuff about selling our old books back and buying the new ones that isn't the truth at all. I dropped her class for personal reasons but now i can't sell my 80 dollar book back.
Not only did she randomly put you on the spot in class but if you didn't know the answer then she would get mad at you...which, I didn't think was right. You should try to help your students not discourage them from wanting to learn. I could hardly understand her, too.
nice but hard; expectations very high
I hated how arrogant she was, how she made me feel stupid for asking questions, and what questions she put on her tests
I speak spanish pretty fluently. This teacher is very hard. She never explains anything to you, and because she doesnt speak English, there are a lot of misunderstandings, and she doesn't care even if you have a good excuse or reason. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!
wrost teacher ever!
I got an A in Span 101 and I just stopped going because after studyin really hard I ws still failing. She is hard to understand and she doesn't explain anything. PLEASE DONT TAKE HER!!!!!!!!
Average teacher. Wouldn't recommend for a beginning spanish student. I already had years of spanish so I found the class easy. Didn't really form an opinion of the teacher...
I was not impressed with this teacher. She is difficult to understand and makes learning Spanish A LOT more difficult than it should be. Also, the book that SLU uses for this class is TERRIBLE! I would suggest not taking Spanish here until there is an almost complete overhaul of the curriculum!
She may seem like she's picking on you, but she's really not. She does lots of repetition and questions from the book. If you study your vocabulary and participate in class, you'll be fine.
Good teacher, but A LOT on the boring side. My class was 50 min and it felt like 3 hrs.
she is really hard and it is really frustating because she expects you to already know everything. Also she does not explain anything well and it seems like she doesnt even care about her students. I got an A in every one of my other spanish classes and no matter how much i studied for this class i still failed!
everybody thinks she is really mean and hard but shes really not. you just have to try and participate in class. she really tries to make you understand. i should have had a c but she gave me a B. if you help yourself she will help you
she is from central america and VERY difficult to understand. i've taken spanish classes for 5 years and failed her course. i recommend marta gumpert.
I have an awful experience with this teacher. I've always considered myself fairly good at Spanish until I took her course. It was online, and everything was scattered throughout blackboard. I found her to be rude, as did many others in the class. She focused so much on the culture, and so little on the vocabulary. I would not recommend this prof
This woman is one of a kind. I am fluent in spanish, I spent a few years in latin american countries, and this woman has had the most incomprehensable manner of teaching. assignments are scattered everywhere, she gives random exams with little notice, she does not explain herself and the book is the most horrible thing ive ever seen.DO NOT TAKE HER
I took her ONLINE! It's very CONFUSING. She is RUDE and a LITTLE MEAN. Her class is HARD and her GRADING. NOT CLEAR at all. DONT RECOMMEND
HORRIBLE! I took this online, thought it would be easy since I had two years in high school and made A's. I made a 52 on the 1st exam and other grades were simular. I almost failed, not because I didn't know the material. I came to her office and sent her e-mails to no avail. She was always rude and even told me I just wasn't cut out for Spanish!
I personally like Mrs. Escobar. She's nice. I don't understand what she is saying all the time. She thinks at the end of every chapter, you should know everything. Her test and exams are so hard. My boyfriend is Mexican and he can't even do my homework sometimes. She's not horrible but she's not easy.
ok this teacher has failed so many students and is just down right mean. you think you are doing well until the test and it's a wtf moment! she is offended if you mess up words in class! i signed up for spanish under a great teacher this semester and they swithced her out for her again and i am freaking out lol. i'm going to contest this!
This was my first Spanish class online, & it was very different. You definitely have to participate on the discussion board with quality postings to get max points & you are responsible for teaching yourself. The tests come almost exclusively from Wiley Plus, & she is very helpful outside of class. I had a good experience with her class.
Always willing to help in and out of class...tests are easy...quizzes can be difficult because they often include random vocabulary words. Overall, really good.
Dr. Escobar is a great teacher! She does get a bit frustrated when she asks a question and no one answers her, but if you participate in class, do your assignments (which she gives plenty of time to complete), and study the class is no problem! And she is not the mean person everyone makes her out to be! She is nothing but nice when I ask her quest
EXTREMELY easy if you actually LEARNED something in 101. And I have over a 100 on most exams b/c of her curves for other students.
My second class with Ms. Escobar & I still love her. She is so helpful in & out of class. Just make sure you don't forget the Wiley Plus homework (it can really hurt your grade if you do).
I was thrilled to take Spanish. It was a lot of work for me because I had not been in school in 20+ years. But I am a successful self taught person, so I dont mind a challenge. The problem came in when it came to her personality. She is a great teacher, with no "bed side manner" so to speak. Personally, she is a cold hearted judgemental woman.
Dr. Escobar is an amazing teacher in every way. She is willing to answer any question a student has, and she takes the time to read every paper and make helpful corrections. Her best qualities are fairness and timeliness. You will never have to wonder where you stand in her class because she immediately grades papers and post the grades right away.
This was my second class with Dr. Escobar, and I still love her! She is a great teacher and a really nice person. Don't put any stock in the comments posted by immature brats who need their hands held. They should go home to their mommies!
This class was fairly easy. She was a great teacher. This is not a blow off class, but as long as you do all your work and put in some study hours you will do fine. She has a strong accent, but she is easy to understand. I would recommend her and I plan to take her for 102 also.
This was the worst experience with a teacher i've ever had at SLU.I highly do not recommend her. she always had a sub teacher come in so she could take the day off. When you needed help she was NEVER n her office, there was always a stickynote on the door saying im not in this week which was EVERY WEEK!
RUN!!!, seriously do not take this teacher. I don't care what anyone says about her being easy, and people who need their hand held to pass. I emailed her everyday to ask for help on a couple ques. she never answered. I went to her office and she was never there. What good is a teacher if she does not teach. I had to go to the dept head to get help
I think the class is pretty easy but I did take spanish in high school. She's nice and likes you if you participate in class. She doesn't clarify assignments too well, but she gives more than enough time to complete them.
She is very disorganized. Tonight is the day before our final exam, and we still don't have our grades up to date. out of 500 points of graded work (not counting our final tomorrow), we only have 273 points graded. No one has any idea how they are doing in the class. She doesn't answer emails, she isn't helpful in class. Stay away!
Very easy teacher. She is very clear and concise with her teaching. She has a heavy accent, though, so it may take some adjustment to understand.. I never had problems with it. She offers a lot of points and curves the exams. I'd recommend her.
This has been my worst Professor in my three yrs. @ Selu. She is disorganized, and extremely hard to understand. She take forever to post your grades, and shows favoritisim. Please take it from me, sign up for another teacher.
Do not take this professor. She does not post grades, she does not stick to the class schedule, she is always late for class, and she is a very tough grader. If possible take another teacher!
Worst spanish teacher I have had at Southeastern. I made an A in Spanish 102 and am pratically failing now. She thinks you should be COMPLETELY fluent in everything from the previous courses. She uses video tutorials and doesn't even teach half the time. You just sit there listening to her go on and on about nothing thats going tohelp you.AVOID!
This was the worst college class experience I've had at selu. I liked Spanish, but not the class. She is rude, grumpy, and does not evoke interest in learning. Pop quizzes were often, fair amount of homework, and hard test. Do your self a favor and AVOID HER!
usually a tad rude or grumpy. at first i did not like her teaching style but i eventually realized how good of a teacher she is. moves slowly; thorough. after taking two years of spanish in high school, this class was extremely simple
Extremely rude. Never smiled. Class felt like a graveyard every time I walked in. Steer clear.
Doctora Ecsobar is willing 2 go out of her way to teach her native language 2 anyone interested in learning. Let her know if u are struggling & she will help u. Don't b nervous. She is an excellent instructor. If u do the assignments, u will do fine! Buena Suerte! (Good Luck)
DO NOT TAKE HER!!Not friendly most of the time, grades VERY harshly!! Does not post grades. I have already taken the final and do not know half of my points out of 600! So I guess Ill get betweeen an A and F. Had a A no problem in Span 101,but had a reasonable teacher too. Really, I am a hard working student , but she expects you to be fluent!
At first i did not ke her at all she showed up at least five minutes late to every class but she gives a lot of opportunities to bring up you grade and now that i am finished with her class i wish i could take her again
HORRIBLE!!!!! I had to drop her class because not only did she not post any grades, but she made her grading scale impossible to understand! Her test was completely in Spanish, which I somewhat understand, but the questions she asked were simply preposterous. Very rude. Class policies were a nightmare to figure out. Extremely unhelpful. DO NOT TAKE
I took her for a term class this summer online. It was fit into three weeks. Grades come from discussion boards, tests, and wiley plus (hw and quiz) I found her very reasonable and nice. Ended up with a 95% overall. She loves when you write good detailed discussion boards and she will make note of who does it. Just do the work, you'll be fine.
Do yourself a favor, become a track athlete and RUN from this professor. In my OPINION she always came to class with an attitude, and looked down on students who weren't "up to par" in Spanish. Expect frequent pop quizzes, challenging (but passable) test, and to be picked on to answer questions in class. Overall i'd rate her a 4/10...
This woman is ridiculous. Sometimes she comes up with a funny comment, but basically in class all she does is read over the book. My final is in 10 hours and she has only put in half of the grades. I would steer clear at all costs
DO NOT TAKE ESCOBAR!! She is extremely rude for no reason at all, she expects you to be fluent or near fluent in Spanish, she takes forever to posts grades. The final is tomorrow and we only have 300 out of 600 points posted. Her tests are very hard. when you ask why you received the grade you did, she gets a attitude with you.
Dr. Escobar can come accross as rude, but I think it is probably due to cultural differences. The tests are hard, but she gives lots of easy points such as homework and discussion boards too. Don't make the mistake of thinking you can pass her tests without studying. Study and submit all of the homework and you'll do fine.
IN MY OPINION not the best of professors, but she is passable. It helps to be familiar with Spanish before hand.
she is nice once she is familiar with her students. have to do homework and online assignments, and have a decent knowledge of spanish otherwise might be difficult. study for test! question from the syllabus may show up time to time
WOW! Where do I begin? In my opinion this was my worst experience at SELU. I think the professor intentions are good but, it does not seem that way. It may be culture differences, but she often times seems rude. She mostly speaks Spanish during class and gives assignments in Spanish so a lot of times students had no idea what the assignments were.
Avoid her! Never take her! She has favorite students, and is way to hard for an undergrad level education. She is mean to students who are NOT perfect spanish speakers, and she seems to think everything personally.
I dreaded going to her class twice a week. I felt like I was being bullied everytime I stepped foot into her classroom. She also made us put name tents on our desks (yes those things from kindergarten!!!!!) I mean come on we're adults! I made A's in 101 and 102, but dropped her class because I seriously thought I would fail.
The worst teacher I have ever had. I have emailed her 4 times, and have never received one back. She expects that everyone speaks fluent Spanish, when she cannot even speak English correctly. Do not take her. She should be fired for how unprofessional she is.
This is the worst teacher I've ever had. Her tests are made from material that is covered in the next portion covered. She is unavailable to meet with and she is not pleasant to deal with when corresponding. I wouldn't recommend her to my worst enemy.
DONT TAKE HER! I take online classes every semester, and this is the first class I have EVERY done bad in. She doesn't answer emails with questions. The material on the exam is not the material covered in the homework or quizzes. During her oral section of the exam she doesn't speak clear enough so its impossible to get right. DONT TAKE HER!!
Horrible teacher. The online class was pretty easy as far as quizzes and homework. Had to go to class to take tests. Her tests are nothing like what she says in the email. Very unclear and inconsistent. DO NOT TAKE HER.
Escobar is by far the worst teacher I've ever had. She is too difficult to understand and often seems very rude to her students. Her lectures are scattered and she doesn't follow her syllabus at all. She loves to call on people. She puts people on the spot and if you have even the slightest anxiety I suggest avoiding her.
She is very thin skinned and takes any question re course content or her methods as a personal insult. She doesn't post grades in a timely manner and claims to be too busy to give feedback on assignments. Tests are extremely challenging. I have yet to hear anything positive about her but maybe those who like her aren't as vocal.
I am a fluent spanish speaker and this class was impossible to pass. she requires a stupid and pointless forum each unit on different spanish culture. it is a waste of time, she doesnt give a clear basis for grading and you learn nothing. AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS!!!
This is by far the worst teacher i've ever had. I did miss a few classes, but its college who doesn't... but i studied the material at home and studied for tests and it was still impossible. DO NOT TAKE HER SHE IS TERRIBLE. She is hard to understand and even the directions on her test are in spanish so if you can't read that then you're screwed..
Very hard to understand. She was rude and passionate about Spanish culture. Homework assignments and LearnSmart assignments were due before it was taught. I had to teach myself in order to complete them. Didn't return grades in a timely manner. Class is easily passed if you do all assignments. I didn't study for any tests and passed easily.
She isn't a mean person, but for an entry level spanish course with no prior spanish class was very difficult. Barely passed and only about 8 of the 30 students who started finished. I would not recommend if you could get another teacher.
If you are not from a Spanish speaking country or if you do not speak very good Spanish I feel so bad for you! IF you can stay away from her if possible! But if she is your only option GET READY!!!!!
The absolute worst professor to date. I like Spanish and I made solid B's from 101-201. FACTS- She will NOT help you herself. Takes 3 days to 2 weeks to answer e-mails. Not around DURING OFFICE HOURS. Must be FLUENT to pass. Must put 25 hours of work in on Connect each week. 3 students were supposed to graduate in my class, and didn't. Your warned
I'm an A student.. This is my first Spanish class and she looks at us like were stupid if were not almost fluent. Very hard to understand. More homework than you would think is possible and NO clear basis for grading. Wish I could put more. If you don't believe me now you'll just believe me later, except with a D or F on your transcript. Good luck.
Just what everyone else said--She's very rude and insulting if you don't know the language, she's impossible to hear, and she grades hard.
If you have never taken Spanish do not take this class! You cannot understand a word she says, she makes you participate no matter what, she didn't come to class for a month and more than half the class withdrew.
I am about to drop her class now. DO NOT take her! The only way you can pass is if you were fluent in Spanish beforehand. It is ridiculous that this class which is elementary Spanish 1 is harder than my anatomy and physiology 2 class! She expects you to just know how to from complete sentences with words you never used before. AVOID AT ALL COST!
This class is very tough with this specific professor. I just dropped from her class to save my 3.0. She does not teach in class. She would go over material that we did not even need to know. Her syllabus was unorganized she often sends emails about corrections. She is very rude. Try to avoid her class.
She expects you to speak somewhat fluently and comes off a bit tough , but very helpful & sweet out of class. Didn't teach much, played tutorials. Had to keep up with homework and quizzes in Connect plus discussions in Moodle. Read everything in the Chapter for tests. I liked the class but wouldn't recommend her to those not confident in Spanish.
I'm not sure how to pass her class. She doesn't teach anything but expect you to know spanish fluently. I didn't do well in the first half and was expecting to pull through so I didn't drop. I tried my hardest to pull my grade up but she doesn't grade anything after midterm. So she doesn't know if I did well or not because I received a F for final
Had to drop her class she is hard to understand and gives no guidance in class, she would stand up in the front ask if we had any questions from connect. Her english is pretty poor and her voice is quiet and she can be very rude at times. I've great experiences with other Spanish teachers just not Escobar.
Prof Escobar is one of the best professors at Collin. I think a lot of the negative reviews are from people that took easy Spanish classes in HS and expected her to hand them a good grade. She is tough but fair. Most of the work is online w/ unlimited tries for a 100. She wants her students to succeed! guaranteed to learn the most span in her class
She is terrible. you cant understand anything she says because she talked so low and her accent is terrible. her quizzes are nothing like she says they are and be prepared to study and memorize the Spanish alphabet. she jumps from topic to topic . Its just terrible.
If you have never taken a Spanish class before do not take her! She does not teach you anything. You will have to teach yourself. She reads out of the book and you can never understand what she is saying.. So, if you do not know Spanish already I would not take this class.
This professor has been one of my least favorites at SLU. She's extremely illiterate with a computer so if you're in an online class like me, you're screwed. Majority of the assignments and tests just don't work and all she says is "contact technical support." SO HELPFUL. And the calendar given for due assignments is always incorrect so you miss it
Don't take her kindness for weakness. If you show up to class, participate, and actually try to succeed in her Spanish classes, it's an easy A. If you halfass work, seldomly show up to class, don't care about learning Spanish, then you'll have the hardest semester of your life. Really simple, put in effort and you'll get the results.
I took her for online Spanish 102. I did not have a bad experience with her like many other students did. I prefer online because you teach yourself. You have unlimited tries at homework and the quizzes are exactly what the homework was. The only downside is she does not answer emails, I rarely received a reply back.
Professor Luz has been the worse teacher i have ever had. plenty of students have problems passing. she doesn't grade your assignments if anything is incorrect, doesnt respond to emails, and very computer illiterate. she wants you to post a video of you speaking on youtube and write a paper after every chapter. I dont recommend.. TERRIBLE!
terrible teacher
I feel like I am not learning anything from this class. I have to take the two Spanish classes required after this one and I am worried I will do bad in those because of this class. Don't take this professor unless you stop at 102. Unorganized. A lot of work and the tests are difficult. Everything is on MySpanishLab.
Took online, there were a few assignments at first then nothing for like a month. I figured it was just the class then she emailed out that she updated grades and I got a 0 on 7 major assignments. I emailed her and told her nothing ever showed up in my assignments, she called me a liar. I emailed her proof of this and she didn't care.
Contrary to many beliefs, I enjoyed her! I got an A (95) in her class with knowing little Spanish. Shes not a tough grader but gets hated on for her poor teaching style. Shes honestly just older/slower but its still easy to grasp if you pay attention. Just make sure to do all homework (a good bit) and itll bring your grade up significantly
Worthless teacher. Doesn't teach. Told me this is a self-taught material class. Doesn't answer emails. At all. Hope she doesn't have tenure. I have no idea of what her expectations are. Do NOT take this teacher.
she's not mean she's just slow and doesn't teach the bestttt. all the ratings might worry you but its actually not bad just not my first choice. you can pass easily with a B. but if your taking a language to go towards your career don't take her, you wont learn enough for that. lots of EASY online homework. i still wouldn't take her again.
This class is difficult. You are expected to teach yourself most of the material. She reads out of the book a lot and does not give detailed lectures. You are on your own for the most part. I would not take this class again.
Make sure to bring your book to class everyday , you will get called on frequently throughout class . Shes a little soft spoken but the material was very simple & there were lots of animations and resources. There were weekly homework assignments due but you have multiple attempts. Tests & quizzes were straight from the book. Really sweet woman.
DO NOT TAKE HER!
Was told by prof that I was expected to teach myself the material but was never told what material to teach myself. I would finish assignments and she would delete them and upload new ones she wanted us to do instead with little to no communication that she had done this. Couldnt keep up with changing assigments and dropped the course.
I'm not even finished w/ her class yet, and it's utterly ridiculous what we have to go through. We have to stand up, say our full name and show our ID for a quiz. I took an online class so that I didn't HAVE to show my face. Also, she doesn't answer emails. We have to write a paper after every chapter. Do yourselves a favor, and not take her class
All of her tests/quizzes are in Spanish. So, If you're an English speaker that has no idea how to read Spanish, you will fail. Imagine studying for hours to get the quiz over with, only to take it, and realize you've never seen half of those words that are even ON the quiz. Hopefully, she realizes her class is terrible and changes it.
Dont take this woman you will not survive! At first I was hoping to work hard and earn an A however that didnt happen Im just grateful and lucky I passed which was a 60! Im just glad Ill never have to take her again!
I hated this class honestly its so discouraging. If you care about your grades and actually want to pass this is not the class for you. If youre not fluent in spanish do not take this class. Shes rude & doesnt care. Everything in this class is in Spanish. DO NOT TAKE HER.
worst professor ever. inconsiderate. rude. shows little respect & regard for students. avoid her
1. I got a 13.50 out of 15, but she put in a 0. So when I asked her, If I were misunderstanding something she basically lied to me, and said that she didnt download the grades yet. 2. She accused a girl w/ dyslexia of cheating bc she was reading the ?s. 3. She didnt put most of our grades in until 2 months later. Good luck if you get her!
She does not respond to any emails and you have to completely teach yourself.
Just dont take this class. She only teaches in Spanish, which can be impossible for some to grasp. I had to drop bc she decided halfway through the semester to completely remove a 100 point grade, resulting in everyones grade dropping like 30 pts. Her in-person class is unorganized and stressful, with everyone asking do you know whats going on?
I do not recommend her. Let me put it to you this way, I know Spanish, my moms side of the family is from Mexico and speak fluent Spanish. Whatever I "learned" in this class was like Spanish on drugs. Idk what was going on half the time. So many homeworks, exams, and papers. She doesnt help at all. This class was ROUGH.
I am fluent in Spanish and I am warning you not to take her. If I was solely an English speaker I would fail this course. Please consider another professor if you aren't fluent in Spanish. I struggle and Spanish is my first language. she is a tough grader and takes off points for anything. Very rude and disrespectful DO NOT TAKE HER!!
Terrible teacher, doesn't help at all, if you have to take this class online, good luck. I took Kunow and Pererya for Spanish 102 and 201 and they were extremely helpful, Escobar is truly the worst spanish teacher I have ever had in my entire school career.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!! She is probably the Worst professor at Southeastern. She acts like we should come into Spanish 101 knowing everything. Her instructions are in Spanish and she will not email you back, and when she does she has an attitude and speaks to you like you are dumb. Her test are way too advanced for being a 101 course.
(online class) (The sem isnt over so idk my final grade) I have taken 3 years of Spanish prior to this class. The homework's take forever quizzes and tests are only hard because she doesn't teach you. Everything you learn is out of the textbook(the whole textbook is in Spanish) IDK how she is still a teacher at this school tbh. Stay away from her.
Dr. Luz isn't a bad professor. However, you do have to write 3 essays in this course after each chapter. The essays are written in English so it's not too bad. Her Wiley plus homework is straight from the book so that wasn't bad neither. Her quizzes weren't terrible, but her tests were awful.
She is just a bad teacher. You learn everything on your own, not one lecture/zoom for the entire course. Ive taken years of Spanish and still struggled. She is NO help. I would stay away. (Maybe if she looked at her ratings on here she would see how many people struggles in her class)
she was very unorganized in how she was teaching her lessons. It felt all over the place and only a few things from each chapter. She did mess up my grade and was accommodating at first but then decided to ignore all emails and never fix it. Her exams are very hard for a 101 class and no homework to make up for it.
Worst professor I have ever taken. Her exams and quizzes are way too hard for a 102 class, she expects you to basically be fluent. So rude. Homework takes forever! Please do not take her!
This was by far the hardest class I have taken at SLU. This course was online teach yourself class. There were grades that she put zeroes for when I completed work and when I emailed about it multiple times, she ignored me. EVERYTHING IS IN SPANISH, INCLUDING DIRECTIONS. If you struggle in foreign language, I do not recommend this class
No communication with students on what is expected. Not good with tech and makes it very dreadful for online classes. Tried once, never again.
Horrible professor. No communication with students. Would not recommend.
NEVER TAKE HER if you have to.this is a warning. I have failed her class multiple times because she genuinely does not know how to teach. She is terrible with communicating and does NOT care about her students at all. She doesnt know how to teach. I don't know why she hasn't been fired yet but this woman does not deserve a job teaching.
If you are a comm student just trying to get Spanish over with like me. this professor will not help with that in her emails and Moodle assignments you cant even understand what she typed because she used the wrong letter which is unprofessional. i feel she's too old to be controlling an online college Spanish course (no disrespect to her at all!)
I took Dr. Escobar for 101&102. I got a B in 101 and an A in 102. Dr. Escobar is consistent in the way she conducts her class. It is always the same. Homework, Forum, quiz, paper per chapter. 2 Oral assessments. Midterm and final. the material that will be covered on each assessment is clarified on the schedule. If you try, you pass. Be respectful!
Do.Not.Take. her online communication is simply not up to par for a 100% online course. There is little to no communication between her and students and with Canvas, no way to interact with other classmates. Course is hard to navigate and 100% self taught.
She has no communication with students. Tests are very hard. This is 100% a self-taught class. Do not expect any help from her whatsoever.
Just don't take her. Don't do it to yourself. She is a horrible teacher and she will not help you if you ask her for help. She is also not clear with her instructions.
I took Span 102 in person last semester and had an A and then took this class and didn't pass. Her quizzes uses webcam and you have no idea what is on them. I was out of power for a week and missed some assignments and she only let me make they up for partial credit. The final is was all written paragraph responses. Worst class and professor EVER!!
She is a very tough grader as the exams and quizzes are mostly fill in the blank. If you miss an accent or misspell a word on an exam or quiz, there is no partial credit, it's wrong. The homework, oral exams are easy bc you can references notes but quizzes + exams will be to your detriment because they count for most of your grade.
The class with Dr. Escobar can be challenging, especially for non-native speakers. While the workload is heavy, using resources like unstuck study can help manage the course requirements. With dedication, it's possible to succeed, but be prepared for a rigorous experience.
For online, her quizzes are graded very hard and are like 80% fill in the blanks with a lockdown browser and webcam. You have to teach yourself using the textbook since she has no lectures. She made us do an oral test interview at the end of the semester acting like she actually taught us when our GroupMe didn't even know if she was male or female.
Just don't do it to yourself. Don't. Imagine my surprise taking a beginner (emphasis on BEGINNER) Spanish course and having to try to teach myself Spanish from a textbook that is ENTIRELY in Spanish. I am a senior and somehow this is one of THE MOST DIFFICULT classes I've ever had to take in college. Expectations are way too high and she was rude.
Worst online class I've ever taken. She disappeared for like two weeks before finals, then appeared again when we had to contact the department. She would tell us about assignments we had to due but, gave us little to no time to prepare for them. For your sanity, choose another instructor because this one is not it at all.
She was an amazing professor all around. Super nice and great with lectures. She helped me polish up on my Spanish to make it better. Everything else in the class from homework and exams and quizzes were fairly easy. No reason not to pass.
The worst professor I have ever had. I self taught myself for a minimum of 2 hours a day, yet bombed every test. Very disappointing considering I was trying to learn the language and take on a minor. Her class discouraged me from doing so. Emailed her many times and she did respond, but did not offer any useful information. Does not teach at all!
Professor Luz is super nice as long as you try hard and communicate with her. It's demanding in homework and constant studying--the test can be hard: Lockdown browser with webcam. That sucks, but she's getting better with online technology than what others have said in the past. She's also willing to curve tests and grades if everyone struggles.
Online class: dependent on VHL textbook. If you do all the homework and use VHL flashcards for vocabulary, you'll do okay. The tests are lockdown browser w/ webcam. If you are respectful and kind to her, she will be the same way back. She was very nice to me and responded every time I reached out to her. This class is NOT easy, but it's doable.
Dr. Luz is very sweet, but her class was a nightmare. She would not respond to emails in a timely manner, and, when it came time for the oral interview, she asked me questions from 102. To her credit, she did apologize and give me full credit, but it was a pretty fitting end to the nightmare that was this course. None of us knew what we were doing.
Although this is an online class, she is very hard to get in touch with. She does not answer emails and this class was quite literally a nightmare. We had multiple occasions where she gave assignments with a due date but never gave the assignment itself. For our final she didn't give an access code so we were kicked out 20 minutes into it.
