Horrible teacher, EXTREMELY boring! Class was 3 hours-NO BREAK. Lectures straight from the text no enthusiasm, test outlines cover EVERY picture in textbook to date. Way too much information very little emphasis on the art itself, felt more like history. English her 2nd language. Tests Ridiculously hard. NOT RECOMMENDED
I took the class twice before and always ended up dropping the class. With Professor Etman I'm finally passing the class she is easy to follow and is always willing to help out I highly recommend taking the class with her she is very helpful and easy to understand!
French, very knowledgable in European arts. Just 3 exams+1 museum paper (on Getty center). Have to memorize 40 paintings for each exam. No final. Pretty easy. Yes, it's an evening class (3 hours), so get yourself a cup of coffee. Overall: interesting, easy. Teacher is willing to help. If you can't make it in her class, you should not be in college!
Highly knowledgeable. She made prehistoric art interesting. You have to know a lot of info for the tests, but if you study, you'll do well. Easy grader. Final is not cumulative. 3 tests & a museum paper. I enjoyed her French accent. Very easy going.
Lydia is a very good teacher. Makes the subject interesting. Lots to remember for the tests but if you attend every class it makes it much easier. She goes over everything thoroughly in class which prepares you well for the tests. She'll appreciate your opinion on the slides she shows in class. 2 mid-terms and the final. Would take her class again
It was a fast-paced class, but she is a highly motivated teacher. I recommend...
Great teacher! Go to every class & the tests won't be so hard. She wants you to succeed & allows for extra credit if you need it. Love her stories and her accent. I will take her again!
amazing teacher. very interesting class. the hardest thing would be the museum paper and the tests. other than that, it is a very enjoyable class.
Lot to know for the test. She gives you a study sheet and long as you know whats on it test is easy. She goes over it all in class. I dislike art but she made the class fun and interesting. Love her accent and shes funny. Would love to take another class with her.. 3 test and a museum paper.
I thought this class was not that great. She thinks she knows everything and when you ask her to repeat something she hesitates. She can be moody and she talks really fast so its hard to take notes. she does give you a review sheet for each test that does help but her tests are hard. theres is compare and contrast between 2 art pieces, and Multiple
Wonderful teacher! Very knowledgeable and interesting. Always knows alot about each painting or sculpture. Very organized and concise. I wish I could take more classes with her.
LOVE LOVE LOVE HER! I was the youngest in the class and got an EASY A. You go to a TON of museums instead of class. There's a lot to know, but as long as you do the study guide you're fine. TAKE HER!
Very fun and easy teacher. 3 tests and a museum paper. For the tests, follow the study guide she hands out and just read and remember the captions under the pictures in the book.
Very nice and very interested in art without being snobby. Has a good sense of humor and is very good with getting the class engaged. Tests are very easy and the study guides she provides beforehand help a lot. I did not care about art history at all beforehand but her class definitely changed that.
Prof. Etman is French and awesome! As long as you come to class, her tests are not tricky, and her assignments are fun. She tries to get everyone to participate in class, so be prepared to talk, show stuff to the rest of the class, and that sort of thing.
Awesoem.
She is so funny and down to earth! I love this teacher. At first she is intimidating but after awhile she's quite the character. She knows her topics well and will explain anything if you ask! Test are very straightforward, as long as you pay attention, take notes & participate, you will pass.
Very, very good professor. Makes the course interesting and is extremely knowledgeable in the subject. Grading criteria is clear and fair. Attendance is mandatory but class is fun and engaging. Take her class, you won't regret it.
If you are going to take Art History, I highly recommend Lydia Etman. One of the best teachers I've ever had. Her lectures are interesting, interactive and fun. Her tests are easy if you attend class and take notes. She provides a study guide two weeks before. She encourages open discussion and interpretation. I've taken two of her classes.
Def reccomended. Tests can be a chore if you're not prepared but flash cards & making sure you can compare/contrast the different periods of art will get you an A. Our class required a trip to the Getty and a few page paper on one of the pieces therein which could suck if you're not really into art. also prone to calling random people for responses
Amazing teacher, very nice and knowledgeable. Very easy class if you have good picture memory. Had her twice, got an A both times
She was clear helpful and I got a A twice.. I am now an art pro
She is A fabulous instructor and I am sad to end the class. I have had her for 3 years and have done excellent every time. Her tests are fun and she takes us on field trips that NO other teacher does. She talks to me after class and helps me when I need help.
professor etman goes above & beyond for her students. she is one of the greatest teachers i've had. she helps you when you need it & gives you everything you need to succeed & do well. the tests are tough but she gives study guides. her lectures are interesting & she is pretty funny. she also gives ec. she wants you to do well. interesting class!!
She is awesome!!!! Her accent can be thick but you get used to it. She is very helpful, funny and friendly. She knows her stuff. Do study guides and you will do fine.
Took the four week summer ART M10 course and it was a long class each day but well worth it. If you take really good notes you shouldn't have to study all that much. We had to go to two mandatory field trips on two fridays but they were enjoyable. Take this class in the summer and get it done quickly!
Lydia was a joy from the get-go. She obviously enjoys her craft and it comes across very much in her teaching style. When I began the class I didn't have very high hopes, but she inspired an interest I never would have expected. She encourages and enjoys interaction and freely gives her opinions on most any piece she discusses. Fantastic!
she is a really good person, study for passing with an A is requirement, tests are a little bit difficult but if you study you will get high B. and overall an A is not impossible.
Lydia is funny. Studying is mandatory to get A on tests. I learned a lot about Art from her. I would take her again. The textbook is essential for reading and studying for her exams.
She is a terrible teacher. Taking notes is almost impossible because she goes way too fast, you will not be able to even write the first sentence. Notes are also not even on d2l. She is kind of rude if you go up and ask her for help. She also has no office hours which is useless. Her tests have chapters that we did not even go over. Doesnt explain.
Lydia is Amazing! I took Asian Art History M14 from her and it's not an easy subject, but she made it so much fun. Her study guides are thorough, lectures are captivating, she is french and has an amazing accent. The accent mixed with her wit makes for a very entertaining yet engaging class. I would take her at any chance I had, you should too!
While this subject can be pretty dry at times, it's almost impossible not to get an A. Extra credit is offered often and as long as you participate in class she will like you and grade assignments more generously. There are very few tests and assignments given, and as long as you pay attention to lectures you won't have to study much for the tests.
I took her for a shortened summer class and it was legit impossible to not get an A. She offers unethical amounts of extra credit. As long as you pay attention for most of the lecture, read the book (which is pretty good), you will do well on the tests. Class is such an easy A, its a joke. I got a 123%, and I'm not even an art major or anything.
I found this class really hard to attend everyweek, she talks alot about the same things lectures are long and dry. I rarely showed up to class and passed with an A. Do all of the online assignments, moreextra credit. I suggest studying for the test, we get a study guide and the short answer questions are the exact same as on the test.
I thoroughly enjoyed this class, it was super interesting. Etman is super knowledgeable on the subject and the background of each piece and topic. I definitely would take a class from her again, make sure you rent the text book because it really helps out with studying for the test. Bonus, there is always hot girls in art classes
Professor Etman was an ok teacher. She was definitely an easy A because i made flashcards the night before the test and studied the flashcards the day of. 100% do the study guide and know the artists/paintings on the study guide. Tests are very straightforward and assigns an an enormous amount of extra credit! GET THE BOOK!! IT HELPS SO MUCH!
Professor Etman is an okay teacher. Her study guides are decent. I made flash cards as well, and aced all the tests. She gives a lot of extra credit! Her lectures are very dry (fell asleep once), but she can be very insightful at times.
One of my favorite professors ever. Very funny and class is very chill. Participate alot and you will be on her good side. Very little out of class work and tests are manageable. Would for sure take again, you won't regret it.
I walked into this class knowing absolutely nothing about art but now I seem to enjoy it becuase of Lydia! This class was some high quality memes at times and Lydia just roasted everyone. So funny and probably the easiest class I've ever taken. 3 total tests and 1 paper. The HW is easy and you can choose which 4 you want to do. 10/10 pure memes
Her lectures can get boring sometimes but she really wants what's best for you. You can do a ton of extra credit, and her study guides pretty much outline most of the test. If you pay attention in class, study before tests, and do the essay prep you'll be fine.
Professor Etman is overall very sweet. She can come off tough but she just wants everyone to do well. She offers an insane amount of extra credit. There are a total of 3 exams and one museum paper. There is a study guide for each test. There are a total of 3 papers in class that are considered HW. All due by end of semester. You learn a lot! Easy!
Great professor, just show up and don't make a fool of yourself in her class or else she'll roast you. Pay attention to her presentations and participate in her questions, you'll barely have to study for any of her exams . Easy A.
She comes across as really tough at first, but when you get to know her she's a very warm and kind person. The week before finals, I had a major family emergency. She was very understanding and extended all of my deadlines. Her assignments and grading are a little unclear, but she doesn't grade very hard. Overall, she's a pretty good instructor.
Started out strict, but she actually really cares for her students and has strict, but attainable expectations. 3 essays worth ten points, 2 exams and a final each worth a 100 points, and one essay worth 100 points. Etman is clearly passionate about the subject, and she also has a great sense of humor. Great class for honors credit. Easy grader.
Doesn't like when students take notes in class. Show up and pay attention and you'll do fine on the exams. Gives a lot of extra credit!!!
Lydia was an awesome professor. She gives great lectures and gives you all the tools to be successful. You will definitely get out whatever you put in for this class.
Mrs. Etman is awesome! She expects a lot from her students and clearly has a passion for what she is talking about. In my experience, the layout of her assignments and tests made sense and I always looked forward to class. I would highly recommend taking one of her classes.
Professor Etman is the best professor to take for Art History. She is naturally hilarious and very knowledgable on Art History. She will roast you if you don't know how to analyze an artwork using the terms, coming from experience. Overall, a very fun professor that will offer you a very easy A if you put in the work.
I LOVED her class! She will call you out if you are not paying attention. Make study cards and TAKE NOTES! Her tests are easy to pass if you STUDY! :)
Wouldn't take if you have anxiety - she calls on students randomly and likes to put them on the spot. She's also very hard to approach as she gives off a cold and steely demeanor even if you're trying to ask a simple question. Her lectures are okay but overall, I wouldn't recommend.
Her slides are very word heavy, and she is not very thorough when explaining the pieces. She does slide identification during tests and gives you about .0002 seconds until she's moving onto the next slide. She can be impatient, but is generally funny and only calls on students who are obviously not paying attention. I've had better ARTH profs.
Etman does a great job explaining each pieces and tests are super easy if you study the study guide ahead of time. I do think calling out on students is the downside of the class but if you're good at taking notes and listening in class, i'd recommend her! she seemed super scary at first, but in reality she does care for students to just pass.
Beware: Prof Etman calls out students *even if they are paying attention.* I wasn't on my phone ONCE during class and I still got called on more times than the people who were. She also goes through slides way too fast and doesn't always give enough time to write them all down. Honestly feel like I learned more from the book than the lectures.
Hah, I can confirm she calls people out because I got called out from using my phone. Other than that, she's okay. I never had to use the textbook because everything is gone over in class, and you can still do really well on tests from just going to lecture. Also skipped two weeks of class and still did fine from studying. Easy overall.
Knows the subject well but seems very unprofessional. She tries too hard to be relatable and humorous to students but it just comes out sounding immature and unprofessional, as well as very annoying and cringeworthy to someone who actually wants to take the subject seriously.
Lots of lectures every class. But very interactive and exciting. She is funny and entertaining. Requires 3 homeworks per semester and 3 exams. One museum paper per semester. Go to a museum, write an essay, youre golden. Her essay requirements are about content not structure. Grammar is not docked. Easy A and wonderful personality
Lydia did awesome when transitioning to online. She recorded her lectures for later viewing and gave us the option of open book for the test. Textbook is pricey, I'd recommend buying it if you are taking more than 1 class. But honestly, you can get all/most of the info from her lectures. Wonderful class wonderful professor.
DON'T TAKE HER CLASS! She is the most disrespectful and rude professor I have ever had. So many instances that she accused me and other students of cheating when that was not the case. Yes her class is pretty easy if you just do the work; however, she is very difficult to work with and she seems to be out to get all the students. I don't recommend.
Easy to pass in the class by doing the work, but the professor is not really engaging and is boring in her online lectures for a subject that can easily be made more entertaining in class.
Easy honors class to take but I wish that I had taken this class in person (instead of on Zoom). Pay attention to the lectures, do the study guides, and put effort into the essays (esp if you're in the honors class). Professor Etman is nice but stern.
She seems to assume everyone will cheat. During covid in an asynch class she forces you to participate in an "optional" zoom mtgs. 4 hours of recorded video/zooms per week. Tests are fill in the blank, doesn't give you the answers to slide questions that are on the quizzes. Mistype the word and your grade suffers. Too rigid for 2yr college.
Lydia is really nice and caring. She works hard to make the class engaging. She gives all of the answers to the quizzes in the lectures, and everything on the tests is covered in the study guides. There are plenty of extra credits in the tests and outside of the tests, which helps keep stress low. Highly recommend!
Professor Etman is a good and knowledgeable Art teacher. She is passionate about art and it shows in her lectures. She very approachable and personable. I took this class to fulfill a requirement but found myself learning about art history. I would say easy A, but then again, some people find a way to screw up an easy A. A little Effort-Good grade
Professor Etman's class was great, well-paced, and enjoyable. At no point did I feel overwhelmed by coursework or exams. Her lectures were clear, easy to follow, and open to questions and discussions. Weekly quizzes were open-notes, and her flexibility was god-sent! I forgot to take the final exam and she re-opened it for another 24hrs - amazing!
Ms. Etman is a fantastic Art History teacher! She is a wealth of knowledge and encourages open class discussions. She grades fairly and offers all answers in her lectures. There are some essays for the honors class, but they are short and have an interesting prompt. Topics will come easier if you have some historical background info. A+ teacher!!!
I took this class as a 4-week summer course. Class overall was very easy however, Professor Etman's time management is poor at best. Random changes to the schedule will happen regularly, leaving you frustrated and with a lot of work. Easy A but frustrating a lot of the time.
Rather boring lengthy zooms where you have to pay attention for specific questions and get the answers from that show up later on easy quizzes. Ms. Etman is rather snippy when it comes to those who do not participate in zooms to the point of threatening to write the answers on the students' foreheads. Constantly felt condescending.
im a student who cares and i put in the work, but maybe i shouldnt have taken this class online. im not artsy at all, and i feel that i suffered. i took this as an easy A and its my hardest class. i feel Etman expects too much for a gen ed class. i did all my work and did not understand the midterms. still dont know my grade.
I took Lydia for four semesters because I just love art history. She KNOWS what she's talking about and really does care about student success, but she likes to see effort and passion. There is so much info, the best way to study is to understand time periods and culture. Understanding those two things gives you the formula to understand most art.
She is extremely rude and not understanding at all. I am very speechless at the kind of emails she sent me. Im a mom of 3 in my 30s trying to better myself. I have done each assignment but have gotten horrible feed back if I did it incorrectly or what not. The words she sent me in the email made me cry so hard and feel very low about myself
She’s definitely incredibly rude to students in her classes when she gets upset that their is not regular active participation. I don’t think that berating and acting superior to students who may be confused is a good quality in a teacher.
Loved this class! Professor Etman is rather blunt and prone to switch things up, but she clearly cares about her students and the material. This class is very easy if you pay attention. She gives lots of extra credit and gives clear instructions. Midterms are easy if you take good notes.
Extraordinarily rude woman. Doesn't want her students to succeed; seems to ride a wave of superiority with her grading and messages. She refused to give a point back for including the word "or" between two words, in which it wasn't necessary, on one of her copy/paste quizzes. Took 7 points off a discussion for directions that were never specified.
Class was great, she's very clear on what will be on the quizzes/test and provides ample opportunity with extra credit to get the grade you desire!
Took this class in a 4-week course. It caused me a lot of stress but I ended with a 530/530 due to the 50 points of extra credit that she offers. You will not find the answers to these tests online so you really have to watch the lectures and study. Overall I thought it was a good class yet lots of work when I do not think it needed to be.
Took her class in 2020 so I'm very late, but I think overall she is a great professor! Her lectures were live on zoom but recorded for students to watch later too. She is very helpful in answering questions and great at explaining historical art pieces/buildings. Lots of quizzes, tests, hwk, and essays; so read the textbooks and watch her lectures.
She is very knowledgeable but here lectures are extra long, some of the info is irrelevant to the course and the tests include info that is crazy to be expected to remember. You can do well if you pi=ut a lot of time into it.
Easy A course but still interesting. Gives clear answers for all the quizzes which is an easy grade boost. If you listen to her study guide review lectures and have the book you will do great on tests.
I recently had Professor Etman for a hybrid class and it was the best experience! We only met once a week, and all the answers for the homework are provided if you attend the lectures. Annotate the study guides (and refer to the textbook when doing so) because it makes the exams a breeze! HIGHLY recommend taking her class in person! (ARTH M110)
Attending the weekly zoom isn't mandatory but they also count as extra credit. If you can make them I'd recommend going but she does record/post them. We had one group project and a few papers, be sure to have the foresight to see when they're due. Quiz answers are clearly stated in zoom. Look at the study guides with a fine-toothed comb for tests!
Take her class. If you are just trying to fulfill a GE requirement, she's a great prof. The assignments are very reasonable and straightforward. I took the honors version of the course and the only difference between that, and the non-honors course is three, 3-page research essays, so definitely take the honors course because its super doable.
Took an online class with her in 2021. Gave us answers to quizzes, although if you misspelled anything in the quiz and it was marked as wrong she wouldn't change the grade. A few essays. She answered all my questions.
I liked this class! It's not difficult, but you need to pay attention and takes notes because she gives the quiz answers out during her lectures. There are weekly quizzes (which you're given the answers to), three tests, and a museum paper in the middle of the semester.
She is super passionate about art and you can tell. Go to all the lectures! as she gives the quiz answers in them and no where else, and spelling is super important. I did that and only got 95+ on every quiz. The book helps a lot with the test. She can be a little stern at times but you can tell it is out of wanting you to pass the class.
This class was a little harder than I expected for a gen. ed., especially if you cannot make it to the Zoom sessions. However, quizzes are an easy A but tests require much note taking and identification of art pieces. Professor Etman is not super approachable but fair and knowledgeable and is a stickler for citing perfectly on essays.
She gave many extra credit opportunities, the class was hard at times but she is super knowledgable and you can tell she only wants you to succeed. Her grading is a little tough, but she gives you good feedback to keep in mind for the future assignments.
Dont take this class, get a useful teacher who is positive to help in anyway, and wont be negative and rude when responding to her students.
She was nice, very sassy though super funny, but the class was somewhat challenging because their were in person & online lectures. She did give Extra Credit, however she was a really hard grader for papers, and we had like 3 different midterms.
Harshest grading for an intro class I've ever seen. A single mistake in essay formatting gets you a zero because "real artists pay attention to detail." Same deal with quizzes, which are fill in the blank. One typo, and that's it, even if it's the correct answer. Zero accountability. Rude. Don't take her if you just need to fill a requirement.
She requires you to watch multiple hour long lectures which are extremely slow and boring. They do not keep you interested and they teach virtually nothing. All of her lectures are from 2021. She just recycles the lessons and doesn't give any effort. Definitely do not recommend.
What Professor is hard on: MLA formatting and lectures. What Professor is kind on: deadlines and feedback. If you enjoy Art or are curious, take her Honors class. She is very kind and understanding on a college level. She has reasonable expectations. It's worth the Honors credit. She gives you 3 tries in the first essay to perfect MLA citations.
I have no clue how anyone's giving her a five. I don't recommend this class to anyone who's looking for an easy 3 credit honors class, as I had more essays in this class than I did in my English M01BH class. She gave me a 0/25 on my first essay because my MLA citation was "off," when in reality it's HER concept of MLA formatting that's wrong.
I loved Mrs.Etmans class! She honestly is a really nice teacher and cares so much about what she teaches. Really interesting I never felt bored. She reminds you to do work before the due dates and is understanding about having issues. Really recommend!
Prof. Etman is super nice and grades fairly. Because this is an honors course, you are required to write 3 essays on stuff that we're learning about. Make sure you know how to cite in MLA correctly. Tons of extra credit available. There's a quiz pretty much every week, and interesting lectures; attention to detail needed. 9/10 would recommend.
I would not recommend this to students who are expecting an easy 4 week honors class. This is mainly for art majors. There is a lot of writing and strict grading on three essays, along with more mini essays during tests. The quizzes are very easy because she offers an answer key. If you are stuck with this class make sure to use proper MLA format.
This was my first honors course and she made it a horrible experience. Would follow the essay prompts down to the letter and would get zeroes. Still managed to get an A but had to defend my work countless times in emails. Whenever I made a point to even providing screenshots of the prompts, she would belittle you with sarcastic remarks.
I took this professor for some light honors credit but it was the opposite the class is a lot of busy work you have to watch the lectures for the quiz answers and there's mandatory essays, the class was easy but her insistence on MLA is big if you have even a few mistakes she'll hand you a zero and accuse you of cheating.
MLA format police. Kept threatening me to "try her" through email many times. She gives 0/25 if you have a tiny mistake on your MLA format even though she has a grading rubric for that. If you are looking for a quick and easy honors credit, avoid her.
Will give you a 0/25 on an essay if you don't cite everything perfectly to HER standards. She doesn't give helpful feedback, just rudely criticizes you. She is rude to her students during zoom session, I would never take her class if I knew she was like this. Professor Etman I hope you can find happiness one day and be a little more understanding.
I took this class in 6 weeks. It was very easy, there was an 3 page essay almost ever week and one quiz she gave the answers too. And some weeks a chapter these which was not very hard. There was a textbook but I did not get it and found that lectures were enough. She had extra credit in place, but I did not take the time to do it sadly.
Professor Etman's online Honors art history class is not necessarily an easy one, however she knows her stuff. There is a good amount of essays and quizzes and she is pretty strict, especially on the essays, however she provides very good feedback and allows for resubmission. I definitely learned more about art history and became a better writer.
This honors art class is no joke - strict grading and lots of writing. But with Unstuckstudy and staying on top of MLA, you can manage. Lectures are worth attending, and the professor is fair if you put in the work. Not an easy A, but rewarding if you're interested in the material.
Lydia Etman is a kind soul who is misunderstood. She genuinely wants you to succeed but does not like having to repeat herself. Take this easy class but DO NOT get caught using AI and read all of her directions. My class all got caught using AI on a quiz and she gave us all zeros. She offers a lot of extra credit. This class is a breeze.
Very straightforward class. She is very clear with coursework requirements, I followed along her rubrics for the papers and got 100%. She will let you fix an assignment, or submit late overall, for full credit. The majority of assignments are weekly quizzes and chapter tests. I did not purchase the textbook and did not struggle at all without it.
Modules open up on a wk2wk basis. Quizzes often but answer key is given w/ strict guidelines. All asgnmnts close day aftr due d8. 2 long midterms & 2 finals. 3 essays w/ vry strict criteria going outside of MLA, 1 mistake will land you a 0. Allows resubmits for wrong format 2x. Lots of extra credit. Follow criteria as gospel and you'll get an A.
If you think you can handle hard professor, unless you've taken this class, you can't. I was considering dropping this class after she ghosted several comments and several emails of mine. When taking advice from my advisor she talked about four students from this year who dropped her class with a EA. One advice FOLLOW HER CUSTOM FORMATTING 100%
I would take again but be prepared for lecture heavy (3+ hrs for a module) and test heavy! Enjoyed the Extra Credit!
Being a point-based system and not a percentage-graded class allows students the opportunity to pass with high grades. Weekly quizzes, but lots of extra credit. The professor will provide all the materials, but it will be your responsibility to use them. The syllabus is thorough and detailed about what she expects. Great and Traditional Professor.
Lovely professor. Enjoyed her online class & learned a lot! Her modules open weekly; each module has a quiz. Her class is lecture heavy, with ~3 hrs average of videos (but you can watch in 2x speed). She has a strict format where the answers for the quiz have to be exactly inputted from the videos, but you can find them on the saved zoom meetings.
I loved this course with Professor Etman. She cares about student growth, explains clearly, and encourages questions. The extra essay helped improve my MLA skills,& I finished with greater confidence & a real appreciation for art history. She is a supportive, dedicated professor, and I'm grateful for all I learned. Her passion for art is inspiring.
Professor Etman is very passionate about this class and that shows, especially if you are able to take a class with in-person lectures. I really enjoyed the enthusiasm she taught the material with, it helped bring the information to life for me. Be sure to actually write down the information you get in the videos and lectures and you will be fine!
