nice to work with
very helpful and understanding, I will take him for 101 next semester
No eating in the class what the hell and no drinking. It was everyday with his jokes on people. which are not funny at all
Lots of work. But he helps you a lot. I wish there were less essays thou
He helped me pass the stupid ACT. I'd take him again
Very interesting and helpful. I enjoyed his class very much
His class was interesting and he is very helpful
I didn't know what to expect, but I ended up liking all these essays about philosophy. The movies were interesting also.
He expects a lot, but will also help you with actual suggestions and tips. I learned more about writing in his class than all my other classes in high school and college together.
Very helpful. He gave specific guidance with thesis and paragraphing. If you paid attention in class you got it right away
I made an A and all I had to do was read the directions on the assignments, pay attention in class, and produce the drafts. How hard is that?
He Is a great teacher. You will learn alot for him and if you come to class and pay attention you will be fine. Also if you think your a good writer... think again. If u want an A you'll have to work for it. attendance is a must. reading all books are a must. but a very good teacher.
Go to class on time and do the work. Go to his office for help. He is not an easy grader but he is very fair and he will help you if he sees your trying. I would take him again and I learned a lot.
HES A GREAT PROFESSOR. HES VERY HELPFUL AND KEEPS THE CLASS VERY INTERESTING. HE GIVES YOU ALOT OF HELPFUL TIPS, REALLY SHOWS YOU HOW TO PROPERLY WRITE ESSAYS.
Very helpful and down to earth. He doesn't just explain the requirements but also why he is assigning them in the first place. Honestly cares about his students and not just about how they do in his class. He was my favorite this term
Very clear, and understanding prof. take his class and read the directions!!!
JUST BE ON TIME AND DO THE WORK!
He has strict rules about attendance and deadlines and he is not an easy grader. Having said that, he will also do anything he can to help a student succeed and to make class interesting.
Very knowledgeable about papers, will help you if you want to improve your writing
Dr. V is very funny and cool. He will help you. Go to class and pay attention and you are gonna be fine
I am late with my feedback, but Dr. Vasileiou's short story class was amazing. Great discussions, very clear guidelines, and you knew exam topics and the answers if you participated in class discussion
He is helpful and knows a lot about writing. He will show you new ways of developing a paper. In class he looks more strict than he is, in his office he is really willing to listen to any problems you have
HE IS VERY HELPFUL AND MAKES CLASS INTERESTING... I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIS CLASSES(ALL)
He is a very good teacher and very witty, but man he loves counting you absent if you are even a few minutes late.
If you are into science fiction and philosophy then this is the class for you. He knows what he is doing and his class discussions were pretty interesting. Tardiness is not accepted at all. Show up on time and do your assignment in timely manner you will be good. If you genuinely care about what you are learning then this is the class for you.
Best class ever. He has a very rational approach to literarure and doesn't do the "feelings" stuff most english teachers do. Great for engineering majors.
Luke (he did let us call him that as he is very down to earth) is my favorite professor. Still, he is a very demanding one. He helps students by setting high standards and expecting them to deliver. If you are going for an easy A or someone who will accept any B.S. excuse for not doing work, take someone else.
He assigned 3 novels and we discussed them in great detail. He is very intelligent and makes you think about the literature in more than the usual ways. Quizzes every day, but easy if you did the reading that day. I'd take him again in a minute
Great discussions even on some stories I did not like so much. The man makes you feel like you are really in college, learning from someone smart who cares about your opinion.
really good ... he did interesting short essays... he is a cool professor. just do your work and you will be fine
If you take ENG250, be sure to read the assigned stories and be prepared for the quizzes. It irked me that he didn't seem to care for answers that HE didn't agree with. But he's SMART so pay attention. I enjoyed his humor.
Insanely difficult content, 3 textbooks combining philosophy, biology and literature. The books are just hard, no way around it. But he curves tests and helps you a lot with the grade if you participate. He is actually a very fair grader and a cool person.
Easy A. No homework aside from a short paper. All you have to do is read the stories. They are short, easy to read and interesting. I would not suggest buying the book. All you have to do is google the stories and print them out. I enjoyed this class. It was the perfect elective.
Just do not bother
He makes class fun even at 9 in the morning, but he doesn't water it down. I learned a lot about writing, but he really opens your eyes and gets you thinking about many more things. He is not an easy A though
I was impressed to see that his accent, although heavy (Greek/Austrian), does not interfere with his clarity. He has a great sense of humor, but does not tolerate students who do not take the class seriously. Very respectable man. Very knowledgeable in English & is very helpful. Just do the work, write in proper, organized English and you'll pass.
I really liked Dr. Vasileiou's class and I learned more in one semester than in years of high school writing classes. Having said that, he is a tough grader, expects you are never late in class, and accepts no excuses for late work. In other words, not a class for the weak.
So hard! Once you get used to having to be on time and doing everything by the deadline you see he really teaches you a lot, but he is one of the hardest professors I had in grades and requirements. Not an easy A or even an easy C
Gives random quizzes in the beginning of class so if you are late by 10 mins you will miss out, class is extremely boring, and get ready to do a lot of boring papers.
Very easy--you do the same kind of assignment in class and out of class so you can get better and practice. Very helpful in conferences. He helped me a lot and is funny but you have to do the readings and participate. Not a lot of readings though. We read a total of 7 articles, just in depth
Passionate and strict. He has every reason for you to arrive early. Those who failed were immature, late, and wrote college essays at a grade school level. He is helpful if you go to his office for help on essays. Read whatever is assigned so you can be ready for his quizzes. Nice guy to students who work hard and want to learn. One of the best IMO
Dr. Vasileiou is a rare find at this college, someone who expects his students to act like college students and be responsible. I respect him greatly and learned a lot from him. I admit I was not prepared for the level of performance he expected, but I am proud I rose to the challenge
He is one of the best teachers in the college!!!
He is strict but very outstanding profesor, he know a lot and I see that as an oportunity to learn even though it was hard for me because English is not my native language. Do not miss classes, they are all necessary for having a better understanding and for not failing it. I recommend Not even to get 1 minute late because he WILL MAKE IT COUNT.
He is a great Prof. if you don't care about your GPA. You will learn a lot though.
terrible professor.
Very difficult class but also really helped me understand how to read and analyze literature. I would recommend to those who like to think
Dr. Luke is an amazing professor who makes you work hard to understand the material. He gives many quizzes and also a few research papers. If you are frequently late or absent you will not pass. He also does a lot of group work dealing with in text evidence. I've had the pleasure of taking him for 101 and 102 and he's an amazing teacher
I just took him in 101, I thought he was very clear in his explanations and was well organized. If you're immature, don't like having to work for things AND you can't help but be late/miss days you will fail. My class started out with over 20 people and by the end we had only 8 people. He knows how to weed out the weak. It's awesome if you do work!
He is not helpful at all, he has his own rules and regulations, he does not care about students. If you want to talk to him about any paper, he will not explain you properly. I had very hard time with him. I did not understand something and went to his office but he did not explain me properly. He only cares about his rules.
Dr. Vasileiou is extremely funny and well prepared. His class really enlightens you when it comes to ways of reading literature. He loves good students and goes out of his way to help them, and is hard on the lazy ones. But I agree that he is too strict with punctuality. I was always afraid I would be late and miss a quiz.
The stories and the discussions were very interesting. He gives a quiz every day on the dot, so be prepared. Rather easy grader on papers, despite what he claims. But attendance matters a lot
Dr. Vasileou was a though professor yet excellent, he wants his students to learn and act as what they are, college student. Is not an even easy B
Best English professor to take for your first year honestly
He will teach you good structure thesis and evidence like it's nobody's business. but he expects students to be professional in everything, attendance, class behavior, papers. He has a dark sense of humor you either love or hate (I loved it).
Helped me pass the CATW and become a better writer. A lot of work but it pays off.
Funny and honest, but the class itself was stupid. Why does Laguardia make us take it I don't know
Helps you to be the best college writer
Dr. Vasiliou has very high standards and I liked that, though laguardia profs are usually very easy graders. He helped me a lot with my writing and also helped me transfer with a great letter of recommendation! I learned a lot and I am very grateful. You will not do well if you skip class or don't do the readings
I wouldn't say he was a bad professor. But he's hard. I didn't know what I was doing half of the time. He wouldn't tell me what was wrong with my papers. If you're good at writing papers, you should definitely take him but if you're not sure take someone else. Tough grader..
He is a very good professor and you will learn a lot, but I think he can teach the same things with fewer papers. We had 2 summaries, 5 papers, and 3 letters and also quizzes every day in a 6 week class. That is too much!
If you take this professor, be sure that you are willing to work on your grade. He wants you to work in his class and on your papers, However, I feel like he is a good professor. I have learned how to write an academic paper in a short session (6 weeks). My first paper has gotten C-, but every following didn't go lower than A-. Enjoyed a lot.
Very tough but also very clear. Class was always fun but expect to work a lot. I learned more with him than in all previous english classes.
At first, I thought he was a tough grader just like many previous students had said. Actually, he is a reasonable grader. But you really have to work seriously for papers. And when u read the passage that is mentioned in the syllabus, read it seriously and carefully bcz there is always a quiz relating with it. I learnt a lot from his class :)
He made my first semester of college a great experience. His class was very fun, as we watched movies and wrote papers on them. He has a nice personality and I respect him for who he is. Definitely your choice for an English class professor.
The class can be hard because there is so much he teaches you about writing that I never heard before. The best thing to do is go to his office a lot. He is helpful and works closely with your paper. But don't miss a deadline. He gives you a textbook he wrote for free.
He was a great person to teach you about college and success.
This professor is awesome. There were people in my class that did not do well but it is because they just didn't do the reading. He is not a super tough grader, and has a great sense of humor. He is awesome!
Not helpful outside class. Not amenable to students whose first language is not english
He is not difficult but he is strict with deadlines. Be on time and don't turn in papers late and you will do fine. I learned a lot from him
The class was rigorous but fun. As others have said, he is actually very fair in grading
He is the best to teach about college writing but you need to be serious about doing the work.
There is a difficult research paper but you must take his class. He helps you a lot with your writing and is willing to help students as much as they need.
This professor believes "STUDENT LEARNS THROUGH PAIN". Now you can figure out how he is. No matter how hard you try, you are still in the same place. I mean he does not easily grade you up. I covered 28 credit in college all of them are A, however, he did not give me A. I tried hard but he did not care.
he teaches very well , he cares about every student, as he says"the only student i can not help is the one i can not see".you will learn a lot in his class .i only had passing score in cuny writing test, but after taking his class , i improve a lot ,and i received A in huc106,eng102 etc.
Class was enjoyable and he taught us a lot about how to read literature, would love to have him in another class
I took him during the online semester, and his class was very clear and all the material was online and with explanations. I just hated blackboard but he was understanding and did not count against you if you couldnt attend
He was honestly one of the nicest professors, especially at the beginning of my college career at LaGuardia. He wasn't as strict he was pretty calm and collected as long as you knew what you were doing, paying attention, and doing your work. He was nice and understanding words couldn't explain the gratitude I have towards this professor.
Very tough grader.. he is not a nice professor at all..
Good fair professor always available for students and gives a quick email response if not in his office 10/10 would take again
He does not like to help his students. Instead of answering the question with a straightforward answer, this guy answers with riddles. He's very mean and does not like when students ask for help. His essay questions make no sense, and the pop quizzes make no sense either.
He offers a very detailed platform on Blackboard with everything you need, and he has clear directions for his assignments and powerpoints with explanations. I learned many new concepts about writing, and if a student cones to class willing to work, they will really enjoy it.
He is very willing to help students, but he also has very high requirements for students' writing. It's hard to get an A in his class even if you work hard. If you believe that you are exceptional, you are welcome to challenge him.
He went over every student paper in ENA 101 in ENA class, so everyone had feedback from professor for the papers. He is strict with attendance. Gives many details on each assignment and reads papers from last semester to us to help us see how to write the paper.
This professor is not flexible at all. Anytime a question is asked he literally reposts part of the syllabus preceded by "as I stated in the syllabus..."
Instructions were not clear at all. He was a very difficult grader and I tried my hardest. Told him I was in an emergency situation (car crash) and didn't even acknowledge it in the email. He grades very difficulty and is very unclear. When you ask for help he is very condescending and rude about it. Avoid at all costs or your GPA will go down
Interesting assignments and readings. he likes structure in papers, and he teaches it well with power points and examples. as others said, very willing to help students get better in essays, I am a much better writer thanks to Dr V
The class was not demanding at all, all instructions were clear, he sounds but is very caring, I had a problem and he helped me a lot, I am very grateful. He is funny as hell
He told us from day one that it would be easy to get an A if we just did the work, no matter if your English is not good, if you do the work he gives you an A at the seminar. A good person to ask for advice about the college, career and stuff
Very strict but caring, doesn't sugarcoat. He cares about EACH and every one of his students, gives personal feedback and knows what each of us needs to improve. Clear on what he wants, strict grader (tip: visit writing center). Important: dont be late or you wont get to participate in quiz. Warning: he doesn't allow electronics use in class
I was hesitant about an online class, but he was very organized. He had all the materials, assignments, and presentations on the platform from day one. For discussion questions, he always provided the answers after grading was over to check your performance. The winter semester is fast, but I enjoyed the assignments and he gave great feedback.
He is very clear in what he wants, and gives a model essay and tells you that if you follow that, you will pass the class. For every paper assigned, he has many materials to help on Blackboard. He knows every student's writing strengths and weakness. I would love to have him in 102 also
he is tough with his students but he doesn't not want them to fail he offers office hours its up to students too seek help. he is straight forward about his expectations of the class. if you can't take criticism I wouldn't recommend his class. as long as you pay attention do the readings and are always in class you'll pass his class.
Late review, but I took him back in Fall 2023 Session I and he shows some tough love. He is clear on his criteria and what expects from his students. He does criticize your writing but if you're able to handle it then you should be fine. He is frequently available during his office hours and I was able to get much needed support from him. 10/10!
The assignments were challenging, but he offers very clear guidelines and a lot of help. I started as a weak writer and ended up with a B and could see how I improved from paper to paper. I looked forward to his classes and he made it a point to get all students involved. Students who want to learn how to write well should take him.
I originally was nervous to take this course but the professor is very direct and focused. He is big on feedback and gives alot of room for errors. Do take his deadlines seriously and don't be afraid to ask for help, he offers office hours. Such a good class !
Very good organization of materials, quickly answered emails and posted questions. It was a 6 week term so pace was very fast, but he gave model answers for all discussions and was clear in what he wanted and how. The play was difficult to read (Shakespeare) though he provided a modern day text also.
Dr. Vasileiou is a tough grader. Pop quizzes include defining random vocabulary terms from reading excerpts. Overall, not as bad as other classes. His expectations are clear, and if you can't handle criticism, constructive or otherwise, then I suggest skipping this class. He also offers plenty of office time.
Amazing organization. Everything is on the syllabus. He offers a lot of help with each of the papers given. He helps improve paper to paper with his office hours. Quizzes given at the beginning of class. 10/10 recommend!!!
If you follow his guidelines while writing your paper, you can easily get an A. You have to get good points in your quiz if you want to improve your grade. DO NOT come late in this class or else he won't let you do the quiz. He gives good feedback and the lecture class is very fun. His humor is 10/10 and you won't be bored in his class at all.
Professor Vasileiou has high expectations, but he genuinely wants students to succeed. His feedback is tough but valuable - I became a much better writer thanks to his guidance. For study prep, Unstuck ai's writing tools were a lifesaver alongside the materials he provides.
Dr. Vasileiou gives many specific feedback to help your writing. If you pay attention to the materials he has on the platform and packet, you can easily get a good grade.
