Lyle Crawford at Douglas College was by far the worst professor I have ever had in my 20 courses so far. I have barely learned anything all semester. I have a GPA of 3.1 and I have took two other philosophy courses in the past. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS, you will regret it, I was the lucky 6 out of 30 who passed the midterm.

Don't be hesitate to ask him questions and send him emails, he will answer my questions patiently and explain the theories for me. Good for an intro course; gives a basic method for analyzing contemporary philosophy articles. For students to succeed on exams, reading the articles thoroughly and taking adequate notes is essential. Written assignments require a bit more ingenuity on the students part. Lyle helps out a fair bit on this front by giving feedback where applicable.

Lyle is a great guy. This is a very FAIR course, some concepts are challenging but if you read the manual and reach out for help when you're stuck, you'll do well. The most important and helpful tip I have is to do the practice exams at the end of each unit (answers provided). The structure of exams are based on these!

Probably the least approachable professor I've had at SFU. The TA is even worse, doesn't understand the material well and cannot answer questions. Do not make the mistake of taking this class

contrary to popular opinions, i actually thought this was one of the most straightforward classes ive ever taken. the second half of the sem was harder than the first (only because math was introduced and i suck at math), but my grade was an 100 before the final. slides arent posted because its completely unnecessary (course manual explains all)

Lyle is completely full of himself. He's unapproachable and dismissive, acting like he's above answering student questions. He seems more interested in showing off how much he knows than actually teaching. The TA is just as bad, clueless about the material and totally unhelpful. Save yourself and avoid this class.

Lyle is an overall great guy who is both a great person and great teacher. His lectures are interesting and engaging making it very easy to follow and learn the content. Exams are very fair and are formatted identical to the practice exams that are provided.

Awful teacher and TA. The lectures and readings were inaccessible. Some students really struggled. When the TA handed papers back, one person got an F. He joked that some students are incapable of 'doing philosophy', but need to fail miserably to find out.

By far the worst Phil prof I have had at SFU. The lectures are disorganized and confusing and his condescending responses are totally uncalled for. I could have studied until the cows came home and it wouldn't have made a difference. Extremely hard material with terrible lectures and an impossible hard midterm. GPA killer.

The material interested me, including the textbook. But when 120 min feels like an eternity, something is wrong! The lecture slides felt incomplete and dry. I love philosophy, but not enough to sit through these lectures.

He was honestly a great prof, even though I struggle with English and social subjects, it was pretty fun, interesting, and easy to learn. There are Iclicker quizzes during lectures, but only 7% of grade. Every business student that needs an English/Phil class for requirement, this is great and highly recommended, best class by far.

This was a good professor but sometimes a bit hard to understand during lectures. Course followed a course manual that was a bit difficult to understand but had all the information you needed to succeed in the course. Easy to succeed if you do the practice in the manual as it is exactly what is on the exams

This class is extremely confusing, Attendance was not mandatory but there was participation marks. More than half the class did not show at all for the entire semester but somehow got a higher mark than someone who showed up to 3/4 of the lectures. There were no clear guidelines on how the exams were graded and was very subjective.

Attendance isn't mandatory but you get marks if you're in the lecture and do the iClickers. Lyle takes something that can be easily explained and explains it in a way that in the end makes the whole chapter extremely difficult. The class notes "clear" imo and just confuses me even more. Literally, a YouTube explains it 10 times better than Lyle.

I took Phil 105 for a Q credit and would recommend it to others who are looking for a low stakes Q class. Lyle's lectures do tend to drag on, but the only thing you need to do to succeed is review the course manual (and do ALL the practice questions bc they are the same on the tests) before exams and you will do fine!

Lyle felt no sympathy during a difficult time, refusing to give an exam extension. As a disabled student trying to attend law school, this was extremely difficult. An otherwise straight-A semester was ruined. I had to jump through many extra hoops to make my dream happen. Someone should refuse him a small kindness that costs him 100x more pain.
