He is really good at HISTORY 1 and 2. When every u need help he is there for u.

Great guy, he really gets into what he teaches since he has experienced some of the cirriculum himself. Comes prepared for class. Helpful and available at his office. Give good amount of extra credit. tests are fair
he is a good professor and he also respects his students very helpfull too.
what a fool! He clearly knows nothing about what he is teaching. I am completely shocked to read the other comments on Culver as a teacher. The guy has a couple of screws missing if you ask me. Don't get me wrong I got a good grade, an A, but I disagree with his teaching methods and ethics.
nice, he can be a pain at times, he nags alot, but you learn better that way, he is very demanding and sometimes a little unclear but other than that he is pretty friendly and helpful
tests are multiple choice. just take some notes, DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. each of his extra credits are 1 point to your total avg and he gives 10 of em. he also has a website that has all the stuff on the test. his paper assignments are cake. hes a little girl sometimes, but who cares his class is a easy A.
cute, respectful and knows what he is talking about....help is always there but at times may be in a bad mood....does not like tardiness or absences
I dont know what the person below me was thinking, but I was late to every class, maybe even showed up at the last second and still got an A... theres a sign in sheet buddy. anyways- hes an easy A. multiple choice tests, TONS of extra credit, and like 2 super easy projects. The lectures are very interesting and hes a very knowledgeable dude.Easy A.
Great professor!!!! Make class time very fun and entertaining. Although he may be unclear at times, he is always willing to help his students in their projects and is always available during his office hours unlike other architecture professors (I will not mention any names). He hates tardiness and absences. Just do as he tells you and you'll get
He made this class fun, never boring! He's constantly helping you improve your skills. Plus he emails you all the time to remind you of assignments and would answer any questions on class and online. He's an awesome teacher. Oh yeah did I mention hes extrememly good looking!!!!!!
good teacher
this guy is the best history teacher in dade. he's very smart and the best thing is that he has traveled all over the world so he knows what he's talking about.
I LOVE THAT GUY...I LOVE HIM!! HE'S THE BEST...HE DOES NOT DRIVE YOU CRAZY AND TEACHES AWESOME. CULVER REALLY HELPS YOU OUT...DID I MENTION I LOVE THE GUY?!
He really cares about the stduents
Culver is the best teacher in the architecture department. He is the most respectful professor that I've ever Known. His dominion on the classes he teaches make him the best. love U Culver.
If you like ARC 2701 you will like this class. As long as you go to his lectures you should do great in the class. The tests seem to be focused more on what was said in class rather then everything in the book, and he doesnt ask questions that he didnt go over in class. His lectures are very interesting and fun to listen to.
i've been so lucky in this class. i calculated my grades many times and i was supposed to get a B in both classes but somehow ended up with a A's instead! hist1 tests are pretty easy, but hist2 tests are tricky. hist1 essays(3) are easy and hist2 has one essay(2500 gordon rule-must be sent to turnitin.com). he gives EC to replace lowest test grades
He will let you turn in as much EC as you want. He also gives EC for not being absent. The only problem with him is his exams. He tells you to memorize the pictures but some of his questions are very difficult which is enough to give you a C in the exam. Even with the review sheet that he gives, it still doesnt explain exactly what hes looking for.
Professor Culver's history is really interesting and he tells you about his experiences traveling! just take notes and know the pictures and you'll ace his tests
He can be nice when he want's to be but most of the time he is uptight.he talks to much about himself.the students think he is cute believe me he's not, unless you collect antiques.
This guy is a clown...on on he talks about himself. This guy has tons of meaningless stories...he can bore you to death instantly...but you have no choice only him and boring Lares teach the history classes.
My first semester in Architecture and I'm glad I registered for his class. He's a cool teacher and you feel comfertable about asking him a bunch of questions. He's very understanding if your having a personal situation. He's really cool with you if he sees your interested in the class and learning overall. You will learn from his class.
In my opinion, culver's history classes are pretty good. yes he has an endless array of stories, but i learned quite a bit...tests are not as difficult as these other dumb people seem to think. however, i would not recommend him for design. those of you who think otherwise, should not be studying architecture. he focuses on art, not design.
HE IS AWESOME, HE REALLY KNOW HOW TO KEEP STUDENTS INTERESTED IN HIS CLASS, HE IS ALWAYS DOING DIFFENT ACTIVITIES TO MAINTAIN THE STUDENT MOTIVATED. I LOVE HIM HE IS THE BEST
I have Culver for history of arch 27011. He is a very knowledgeable person. Culver is understanding and interesting. His tests are online and you have two chances to take it. So, if youre not satisfied with your first grade take it again. He also offers a few extra credits. G uaranteed A=!
Overall good guy, teaches well, funny at times. Interesting lectures and helpful with questions. exams are easy.could be best teacher in the ARC department, knows about the career.

great lecturer
THE BEST DESIGN PROFESSOR IN MIAMI DADE. Being an architect is one thing, but being successful is another. He will not only teach you about the profession, but the qualities you need in order to be good at what you do. If you are responsible, humble, eager to learn, and willing to put your life into making the best project ever, choose Culver.
Culver is good teaching History, I took both histories but when I took him for design...I can honestly tell you he is not good. You can't express yourself, designs have to be his way and tells you to do something and then ask you to destroy what he told you to do. He is never ok with your projects. You can get really frustrated and affect your grade
really good
love this guy makes me LOL. good teach learned a lot
Great teacher and very interesting. Not only does he have a welth of knowledge to share but he's been to most of the locations he teaches about, which really leads you to trust him. Hes very laid back and has great power points. Tests are very easy and papers are not hard either.
Not a bad professor, but hes not clear in his critics. one day he loves ur model and the next day he hates it. sometimes u have a model similar to one of ur classmates and he loves urs but hates theirs, meaning that the rules arent the same to everybody in class. plus he spends a lot of time at the beginning of the semester, and rush at the end :S
Lyle is one of the best prof i ever had. he is smart, intelligent and funny. i took him for design 2, the class was hard, many study drawing. but the result were great. take him... u will learn alot
culver bables alot. he is unclear, impatient, big w/attitude.be carefull dont get him upset.most of the time he is cranky.good only for history class thats it.not hot guy.dont recommend him.
His class what a bit interesting. He challenges you to use your creativity. He's only cool sometimes. Tends to rush projects and has some moments where he can be a real jerk. He is a bit impatient too.
THE BEST PROFESSOR IN THE ARCHITECTURE DEPARTMENT. He's awesome. I never had any complaints about him. Very understanding, super smart, and extremely helpful. I love that guy
by far one of the most unclear design teacher's , I've ever had, he gives u the usually amount of work u expect from a design class, yet he lets u slack, does not really give advise, so you work blind. Then towards the end he wants you to do everything if not you fail. in other words, horrible
Mr. Culver is a smart professor who knows everything about the history of architecture which therefore grabs your interest in the subject matter immediately! He is a little bit picky with his assignments but overall you learn what architecture is all about and the class is engaging and the pictures he shows you are very interesting and cool!
I LOVE HIM! he is amazing! his projects are always realistic and interesting! he makes you work hard, yet he is still flexible.
this professor is very unlikeable in the aspect that he is very vague and doesn't like to explain in-depth to his students about the project assignments he assigns and then he jokes around with it and makes you look stupid. When you ask him questions he just looks at you weird and expects you to know the answer when in reality you don't!
Take him!!! Make friends and take the online test together! You are guaranteed to pass! Oh and for the final project... Don't do the scale model unless you know what you are doing!! You will just imbarass yourself infront of everyone! Do it safe and just do the "scavenger hunt". :)
I started the class not knowing how to scetch or shade or draw. I had a low level of creativity. I also did not not take the class with no confidence in myself, I was not shure if Architecture and interior desighn was my thing. This proffessor showed me that I could do it. On my assignments i tried and he still gave me an "A" or "B".
He is an amazing professor his design class models are amazing. We worked on a monastery I loved my project. He is very flexible and he is an amazing professor you will learn a lot.
I've had this guy for a bunch of classes, ARC2701, 1301, 1302, 1115, 2702... He's ok, and cool, except if he gets on ur case, u're screwed. He's helpful in design classes to a ceratin extent (cause he could be VERY vague!) and its ridiculously easy to pass his History classes if you meet up with friends and take the tests together. I always got an
I had him for Interior Design 1. It was the first time he ever taught this course, but I must say, he is a very good professor. I learned so much in a semester, and boy does he help you alot. Do your work, or else you will end up on his bad side. Very nice guy and is always up to help you or advice. TAKE HIM for Design 1. Truly Recommend! Alot of p
Good Professor, he knows what he is teaching, Why he is not giving design 4 classes, a lot of students would like him as a professor in this class.
Excellent teacher! He is very supportive when you need help and is always available to guide you. Another student looking at my homework said she wished she had taken his class. If you do not know anything about drawing you will learn different drawing techniques. Turn your assignments on time, and don't be late.
the trick is to do all extra credits!!dont seat around and believe this is an easy class.take a lot of notes when he put the slides.online tests based on notes-not book.try not to plagiarize in paper about model.this professor has an unstable attitude.
I'm majoring in business, but I took this class I don't know why LOL. He is such a great professor, one of the best professors I ever taken in my life. Really helpful, funny, explicative, and nice person. This guy inspired me to go for architecture. TAKE HIM!!!!!!
great expirence in both history classes. going to take him next semester for design 2. Cool guy, yes he can be uptight but c'mon he is British after all. I would recomend him to anyone that is interested in architecture and wants an easy A.
He is really helpful. Before I started this class I didnt know I could draw and sketch the things I'm now able to draw, he will teach you a lot of techniques and as long as you follow directions and do what he says you will get a good grade, altho he is really picky with the quality of work.
STAY AWAY FROM HIM, I highly recommend you don't take him for Design 2, he was a good teacher for design 1 but in design 2 he is never clear on what he wants and today he will tell you one thing then you do it but then he liked more what you had, we only done like 2 abstract compositions and a million precedent studies, no real models at all.
This man is very nice. He always treats you very respectfully and his class is very clear. His tests are no longer online though, he gives them in class now. I am not an arch major but I took this class as an elective and he made me love architecture and the history of it.
AWESOME
Awesome!!!!!! He is the best professor at dade
Horrible!he doesn't help with anything he almost wants you to fail
his is one of the professor that tries hard to encourge you to develop new things and approach them but then is very confused to what he wants and always change his ideas. but after all you do the work, you will be ok.
culver is really nice but sometimes he makes comments(jokes)about your projects that are mean ! I had him for DESIGN 1 & 2 I think he's really kool but sometimes he changes his mind a LOT !! so be carefull ! attendance is kind of mandatory but overall he's a GREAT teacher u'll learn and have fun at his class
outside of class he is a very cool person and is willing to help.for history the man knows his stuff but in design he changes his mind every 10 seconds!! he is very unclear with what he wants and when you ask a question he talks in circles! and be prepared when you don't do something right because you'll become an example of what not to do.
In this class Prof. Culver was extremely informative and descriptive in all of his lectures. He loves what he does and it shows in his teaching. Show up and pay attention in class and you should not have any problems attaining a good grade in his class. Tests are very fair and you can realy learn alot, I havent attended college in 16 years and earn
Shares his love for architecture. You must do all his work to pass.
He shares his love for architecture, and is great to look at.But u must do great in the project and the research paper!! This can leave a HUGE mark on ur grade.
GREAT PROFESSOR! i had him for a class a couple of years ago and I've been trying to get him again ever since, architecture isn't my major. he has so many stories to tell, made class so much more interesting! i wish could take more classes with him! not a bad looker either, and with the accents he has picked up, makes him a bit more attractive ;)
Very Good Professor. He is very interesting and makes his lectures fun. The class moves fast so you have to stay on top of things but he is really cool. Be respectful to others and communicate with him if you have to leave early or come late.
AMAZING teacher for history, but NOT FOR DESIGN!!! He is very unclear about what he wants from your design and will always change his mind. Had him for D2 two years ago and hated it
I recommend Lyle Culver for Design 1 and 2 (ARC1301 and ARC1302), he's projects are very interesting and fun to do. He grades you according to the time you dedicated in the project and not on his personal opinion which is great. Over all he's a great professor and want the best for he's students.
Had him for DI and DII.. amazing professor. Makes you think beyond architecture. Will make you work to your full potential. Will make your best work come out. Will make you do a lot of hand drawings, paintings, rederings, etc. The best thing I learned in his class was how to think out of the box.
He will help you develop your own ideas. unlike other desigh professors. it's easier to do what you are told but harder to develop your own ideas and that's what he help you with.he is abstrative.everyone should at least take him for one semester of desigh. His history and theory classes are fun and intersting but you got to do some work.
GREAT TEACHER! Really wants you to learn how to think and explore the possibilities of what you are interested in, he doesn't just impose what he thinks you should do but simply gives you guidelines and lets you be yourself through your design.
Reviews are the test, but the review does not tell you what you got right or wrong. Very interesting class. Must do the sketching. Take note on every historical facts he says and you will be fine. Projects are fun.
This guy is great; his lectures are not boring, he engages all the students and makes sure you're paying attention. Assignments are not overwhelming, just a whole lot of sketches! Exams are easy, he provides you with practice exams just like the test. Will def. take in the future!
I took Prof. Culver for: History of Arch. 1&2 Design 1&2 For history he was very laid back & lenient. Don't give him crappy drawings, take the time to sketch in your sketch book, take really good notes for your tests. I wouldn't recommend him for Design 1&2, maybe Design 2 but not 1. He changes his mind a lot. He is always late to class.
He is the easyest or the 2nd easyest teacher i have Ever taken in college test aré take home do the project and ur good. Attendance is mandatory !
Tends to talk about interesting things for motivation on designs, plays music in class, and very helpful when it come to the construction of projects.
History class was amazing. He gets deep into the subject and it is actually interesting... Has slideshows and you just take notes every single class. Don't be late or absent. Don't take him lightly for tests or quizzes so study! He is super interesting and informative, plus he has traveled to so many. places. Cool, chill guy. Great professor.
I took Design 1 & Arc Communications with him, and I am loving both classes!. You have to show interest and quality in your drawings and models. Sometimes you may have do to work that is not for a grade, but take it as a practice. I love professor Culver, he made me think outside the box. I will take him again next semester, for sure!.
Took him for IND history 1 & 2, his class is super laid back and you actually learn. He just puts up powerpoints with pictures and talks. If you draw well and study for exams you'll pass.
I took History of Architecture 1 and 2 with him. He is a great professor and is very inspirational. You will learn a lot and he is very helpful. You do need a sketchbook which he grades, not based on your drawing skills but on the amount of information on it so don't be scared. Would take again!!
He is a pretty tough grader when it comes to the two notebook checks that he does. The Exams he gives are not too difficult.
Awesome lectures, very informative , tests were simple and easy to follow through. He helps with extra credit. Fun projects and assignments , very interactive with the class
I took Culver for history 1 history 2 design 1 design 2 . However, for History he is good, but fore design is not the best professor that you can take, if you want a nice portfolio you are not going to make it with him, also I just learned what was a cenotaph that is it. I felt that I personally did not learn nothing.
Amazing lectures, you won't get bored at all. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about architecture. An easygoing person.
The class is interesting but disorganized. You will never know exactly what to study or how to study. In class you will learn a bunch of interesting facts about different pieces of art, but when you take the tests online he will ask you a bunch of random things leaving you blank. I hate disorganized professors with no structure and he is that.
dont take culver and save yourself the stress and agonizing pain
personally did not learn nothing just learned how to deal with immature kids because thats how he acted
He changes his mind a lot and ALWAYS late to class.
I took Culver for D1 and it was a good introduction to the basic principles of architectural design. The thing I liked most about him was that he's very approachable! I never knew anything about architecture before, but he is very kind and guides you. I really recommend taking him for D1 and see if you wish to continue arch!
A controversial being, save yourself the heartbreak, he made me decide i don't want to continue with architecture. Honestly dont even bother maybe for history but stay away from his sight because he picks on people and makes fun of them
He's every picky on everything for martials lots of work as well.
He doesnt teach Architechture like you would expect, the class is more about his life than anything else. I would recommend any other professor than him, just because It would be naive if you dont explore other professors before seeing how bad he is.
You can tell there was an obvious downfall on how bad hes hes been teaching lately than before by seeing before he used to get good reviews. I wouldnt recommend him to anyone. Hes very not well respected as a professor, if you want to slack off in Architechture and not learn anything take him, hes the best to learn how NOT to get better.
Professor Culver is not bad he is a great teacher, but what others do not understand is they expect to go to classes and pass by just sitting there and being on their phones. As said do your homework, quizzes and you will get a pass.
I had this professor for more than 4 classes, so those who like him are only because they have only had one class. This professor is erratic and needs to take courses of how to maintain professionalism as a teacher. Although he is nice sometimes just save yourself the trouble and get another professor who actually has an interest in your well being
This professor is very unorganized and is constantly changing his mind, has no patience with students and doesnt give you any outlines of what is expected for an assignment, basically throws you to the wolves, also made me buy 2 texts and he hasnt even used them for anything so far? Would not recommend.
First thing you need to know is that architecture is hard. If youre not willing to give it late nights and actual time get out. Dont waste anyones time because he will drop you and hell drop you at the end of the course and you would have wasted money and time. He has lots of attitude and sarcasm. He also changes his mind a lot!
Basically presents the subject fairly clear however when it comes to getting feedback from students he will look for only the answer he wants to hear and if someone says something that isnt right he will mock you infront of the whole class and show you no respect or try to correct you. He expects students to walk into his class and know everything
There are only 4 online-test, you have to take notes each class because there is a sketchbook grade that worth 35% and a project that includes a model. Maybe it isnt the most interesting class, but he put a presentation and talks about it each class.
Get someone else
Culver is a cool person. But this man is very unorganized and all over the place. He changes his mind a lot. I give late nights to his class and put a lot of time in my projects for him just so he could turn down the project and not give me any feed back but just sarcasm.
Love everything about this professor, his passion and natural talent to sketch. Definitely a real gem for the knowledge he has.
His first time on an online course so I gave him a chance but he is horrible never take him. He grades things too intensely and makes unnecessary comments. Big NO
This professor is one of those that you can either hate or love. Theres no in between. Yes it is very true that he changes his mind ALOT! But I believe it is important to accommodate with what hes asking for which does restrict your creativity a little bit. He does help by preparing you to deal with actual clients in the real world,Otherwise 8/10
He is never in class, doesnt teach his class, I payed to get a lecture on a power point, he has never dont a zoom meeting or anything of that nature. Very uncaring professor
Extremely nice professor; Can give you excellent feedback and is always enjoyable when learning something new from him, HOWEVER one class alone can feel like 2 with the amount of work this guy puts out. Essays, projects, and quizzes up your alleyway but can go easy on grading (sometimes). He tends to ask a lot from you so be prepared for that.
No class time even if that's what you signed up for, just sends slides for you to read on your own time. A bit egotistical and requires you to write/draw a lot of stuff. The final project is a physical model, if you're even remotely not into the subject, avoid
This particular class is overall very difficult, time consuming, and costly no matter who your professor is. Professor Culver well intentioned, however, he is VERY honest and at times sorta snarky. You'll just have to get used to his personality and dry humor. He's NOT a laidback teacher. Other notes: his punctuality could be better
At first Professor Culver can be a little intimidating, but he's a great professor. If you have questions, he will always answer. He sits down individually with every student and gives great feedback. He can be flexible if he knows you are always on top of your work. He's very helpful and gives great ideas to incorporate into your models.
Professor Culver is a great professor. The design classes are tough, and require a lot of time and dedication, but if your are on top of your stuff, this class shouldn't be any extra difficult. He grades fairly, the more time and effort you put into your projects, the better your grade. He's very easy to work with if you are dedicated to this class
Best professor I've ever had! He is an amazing professor and never puts you down. He always gives his honest opinion and encourages his students to do their best. I learned so much from his classes and had really great projects to put in my portfolio. He genuinely cares for his students and wants them to succeed.
Culver has a weird way of teaching due to his personality. But if you come to class with progress on your models, he will always give you advice and help. Nearly never gives 100, very harsh on powerpoint grades. Extends deadlines. At moments can be bi-polar, usually very laidback but for like 3 weeks in the semester will be very harsh and strict.
Culver can be tricky, but I found Unstuck AI super helpful for staying on top of his class. The workload is heavy, but engaging with the material and using tools like ChatGPT made it manageable.
Professor Culver is a great professor and knows his material. He puts all the powerpoints onto Canvas so you have access to them at any point in the semester. Your main grades will be 1) a sketchbook with notes and sketches and 2) online timed exams covering the powerpoint material. Take him for History 1 and 2 if possible.
The professor doesn't instruct the students very well. I expected to be critiqued in this class as all architecture classes do, but in the manner in which he did it, it felt degrading, so much so that I completely decided to change majors because of it.
Doesn't use canvas or rubrics. Passive aggressive. Learned nothing.
Awesome teacher if you really care about the class. Gives useful feedback and cares enough to make the students learn. Tough grader
If you take his materials and construction class be ready to use the workshop. The projects on this class take long time to do and a lot of effort, but the professor is amazing, he cares about the students and always gives feedback. He is not a tough grader but difficulty gives 100 points but won't try to hurt your gpa if he sees the effort.
Dr. Culver is an amazing professor who is very accommodating and kind, he gives reasonable critics and is available for contact outside of class, but it may take a while for a response. I also had him for Arc1301 and it was a great class, would 100% retake. The only tip is don't procrastinate, he gives time based on the assignments needs.
Loved this professor he loves what he does and it shows! His lectures are always interesting and engaging. He is also very flexible which I appreciate due to me always working. Extremely nice and so happy I took his class. Just amazing!! You won't regret it.
love him, he's funny, he explains good, connects with students, he gives interesting projects, gives good feedback, and if you did good on your work he displays it in the library, 3000% would take again, but don't take him if ur gonna slack because he wants someone who shows effort and preparation
