Very alive! You won't fall asleep unless U are dull.
My sister had Dr. M for 2 classes and I did. He is the best prof we have had in our 2 years here so far.
Always smiling, always happy. He's busy but he'll give you all the time you need.
He'll do whatever he can and take as long as you need until you understand.
He's a little odd. Seems to like poetry about sex & he dresses out of a hot shot mens mag. He cares I can say that and I have learned alot from him.
It took me til midterm to realize how valuable this required 100 level class is. Dr. Morgan is right on. It gets you thinking. Dr. Morgan waited patiently for me so say something. When I did, I was close but missed something. He was kind and asked if I ha
Dr. Morgan is a very fun and energetic teacher. He's one of the most fun teachers I have taken here at Pitt and I strongly recommend him to anyone that has an opportunity to take a course from him.

Excellent! Dr. M knows his subject and knows how to deliver it. Very helpful.
He's a pretty cool teacher, a little crazy but his class is really easy
good teacher easy teacher
TOO MUCH COFFEE Dr. M!!!!!! He's a hyper**** but totally cool!
I took Dr. Lyle's Honors Comp last year. He really makes you think. I learned how to think for myself and learned how to write a lot better than anyone taught me before. No one else did. He will help you in and out of class if you ask. I think he is probably the best of the best PSU has to offer.
I knew I would like this guy when he jumped on top of his desk the first day! Energetic and lots of fun, Dr. Morgan DOES make you think and LOVES to hear your opinion. He ties with one of my high school teachers for the best teacher I've ever had. If you are reading this, Dr. Morgan, Danke!
The energy he has is great. I love how he paced the course to the people in the class. He is very helpful in and out of class. I like how he let us know that he doesn't know everything, and he wants us to think for ourselves. Refreshing.
Anybody who has the opportunity to take one of Dr. Morgan's classes should do it! He is a very energetic, helpful teacher with a sense of humor that keeps topics light and interesting. He is one of the best teachers that I have had at PSU.
I hated the way he taught this class. I had no idea what was REALLY expected from me, and much of the material was totally useless for ESOL. His laugh made me painfully cringe daily, and I REALLY didn't need to hear about his teenage years in the red light district of Hamburg. I think he must have been the only one they could get to teach this.

EXCELLENT professor. This guy is CRAZY! ive never seen a teacher with so much energy mixed with halarious humor. He loves teaching, and is very outgoing. Take him if you get the chance

The teacher is nuts! It can be quite amusing, but over all, he's kinda crazy!
Superlative professor. Among the best at P-State. Linguistics is one demanding course and Dr. Morgan did his best to make hard concepts clear--to those of us who read the material and studied and were involved.
Werid guy. Very eccentric. Hard tests.
I'm ending soph. year. Of all the Gen Ed professors I've had in two years, "Dr. Lyle" is the best. I took class in 2006. Used to getting only A in high school, I was shocked with C or lower. But he gave everyone the chance to revise and improve. I EARNED my A. Dr. Lyle is a kind man and very helpful. Emailed him alot. He steps out of "Details".
I took Morgan's class 3 years ago. At first I hated it. didn't read and hated writing. He made reading interesting as he talked and some of us talked, and he helped me alot with my writing. I found that if you email him or talk to him he will do about anything to help you succeed and learn. He is good. Not the best but one of the best P-state has.
Class started out great, ended up being all about him and not how to teach writing to middle/sec students. Stopped coming to class so I wouldn't have to hear about all the famous people he knew. It got old real fast.
Great teacher--a bit eccentric but REALLY funny. He is very willing to help students outside of class. You can tell he really enjoys literature and is very knowledgeable. The name dropping gets a bit annoying but besides that he is GREAT!
Excited about everything he teaches. If you don't know how to understand poems or stories before, you WILL after. You can revise all your papers to improve your grade and his comments help a lot. Funny. Why does he say he's 80? Probably he's mid 40. High energy all the time and very personable. Always in suit and tie. Highly recommended professor.
I'm no longer an English teaching major but I learned so much that has been useful from Dr. Morgan's linguistics class I can't believe it. I use it and even think in linguistic terms! It was almost as hard as my advanced math classes but Dr. Morgan finds ways to make the subject clear. The dialects unit is a blast.
If u are reading this Dr. Morgan, THANKS!! U took me from being too afraid to talk to sharing my thoughts in class. If u disagreed u explained why. I'll tell everyone that u will help anyone anytime. U wrote long emails to answer my questions Im sorry I never came to your office to talk. U have more energy than any prof I've ever had.
Wow,awesome teacher. I looked forward to his class. I don't like to read but I did for his class because I wanted to be a part of his very interesting discussions. The best thing was that he really cared about the class and made learning fun. He is very clear except for on the due dates of the journals. Made me a better writer.
Haven't had all 500+ profs but Morgan must be in the top 10. English was a GA bore in high school but never in his class. My writing improved and my thinking and he even got me to want to read. I even kept my book so I can read more. If you can take him do, just don't expect an easy A. I want to take him again but he isn't teaching anything I need.
He is the most energetic, hardworking, humerous and friendly teacher I've ever met! Always full of passion. Learning with Dr. Morgan is not dull.
A really interesting class and a really odd professor. He is a professor and a doctor --MD. I had to write most of my papers over twice to get an A. He doesn't seem to care if you agree with him or not but only if you write well. Take him if you can. You will get to think. Oh and he loves to speak German and French in class.
Dr. Morgan is and odd, odd man. He busts out into random bouts of contagious laughter over the most random subjects. Class is never boring, regardless of the subject. He is very explicit when it comes to analyzing literature of any form.
never worked so hard to earn a B and Ive revised each paper twice. Im not interested in literature or writing or reading a lot but Dr Lyle makes coming to class interesting and I'd say his teachings gonna grow on me even after I finish the class.
Dr. Morgan is by far the best professor I've had so far at PSU. I never dreaded going to class and something happened every class period that caught me off guard. Dr. Morgan makes writing interactive and creative. He wants to hear your opinion, even if he doesn't agree with it. If I get a chance I will take Dr. Morgan again.
I thought my writing was good, but Dr. Morgan took it to the next level. He never criticized opinions, but sometimes would express different points of view. Great professor! Highly recommended! Thank you Dr. Morgan!
I'm training to become a teacher. I want to make a difference. Dr. Lyle really inspired me and I'm so glad I ended up in his class. He is the very best prof I've had in two years-one of the very best teachers I've ever had. He encouraged me to think and isn't afraid of being challenged. I had to revise once or twice to get an "A" and I learned a lo
I have never been much for writing papers and English classes were never my thing. Class was very enjoyable and I felt that I took a lot from it. His methods and words are a little different, but he is the only true "educator" I've had in college. He sincerely wants his students to succeed while learning the most while they are in school.
I loved "Dr. Lyle"! I have always enjoyed writing, but this class was the first time that any idea from any point of view was embraced! When you take this class you will not only have a great professor... you will have a lifelong friend.
ur a great teacher. i had no interest in the class when it started but i ended up appreciating lit and writing and your bouncin' round the room askin' us to care about the world and ourselves but ur tests are hard n too long.
He's very dynamic, is open to questions and/or comments and always encourages individual thought and different opinions. He really cares about students learning.
Dr. Morgan is a great teacher! I didn't do so good on the 1st test we had and it dropped my A to a D in his class. He let me do so much extra credit and it bumped me up to a B! he wants his students to do the best that he could do! He's awesome! He's hilarious! And probably the most knowledgeable teacher i have ever had in all my years in school!
Thank you for being one of my favorite teachers I've ever had in my education. I thought my writing was v good until I got to your class and received a B on my first essay. I'm a str8 A student. It was eye-opening. My writng improved so much. I just want you to know that you've been a great inspiration to me. I will miss the "Demented Ramblings".
He is nvr down, always in a good mood n full of energy. He wants r opinions then works with them. I've nvr been exposed to critical thinking but I am now. I can see things about reading on my own now that I nvr could before. How can anyone NOT come to Dr. Lyle's class? Oh what they are missing!
I thank Dr. Morgan for making learning not dull but a joy. I enjoyed his class very much last semester. He is the most energetic, hardworking, humorous and friendly teacher I've ever met! He is always full of passion in his career.
I didn't excell in his class but I enjoyed his class the most out of all my classes that I took and he has inspired me in his own way to go into the world and persue my dreams. Mr. Lyle is an awsome teacher!
I loved his class and I think he is truly passionate about eduction and communicating with students. Who could ask for more? I give Dr. Morgan the highest marks he's a great teacher. Being different is what makes him special.
I've taken 2 classes from him. I'd take more if I could. His tests are long and hard and papers have to be revised once and sometimes twice to earn a high grade which might only be a B. I'm planning to teach but not English but I only hope that I can be half the teacher Dr. Morgan is. His love and passion overflows.
My FAVORITE chieftain ;)
Not many professors go out of their way to help students like he does or give unrelated majors career/grad school advice or Facebook message them, etc. I really appreciated all of it! I'm graduating in May '11.Dr. Morgan has been influential!
Enjoyed his passion for everything we did in class. I used to have passion for writing but hs English teachers destroyed it. Dr. M reignited my flame for writing. I enjoyed the lit we read and he chose hard things that made me really work and think. My hs English teachers were superficial while Dr. M wanted us to think for ourselves. GREAT teacher!
At the begining of the semester, we took reading quizzes and I thought I wasn't going to do well in the class. But, he was very helpful as the semester went on with letting you redo papers or do a little extra credit. I love teachers who let you do that, that shows they care. Overall, he is very knowledgable and very passionate about what he does.
One of the best I've ever had in or out of the English Department.
I understand literature for the first time ever! He brought it to life and taught us about life as well. He says he's insane. Not, but kinda off the wall which only makes the class and him all the more interesting.
He's very approachable and more than willing to give you extra help. I appreciate all the feedback he gives on essays. He's a great professor but English just isn't my subject. Work with him and he'll work with you and you'll succeed.
Great teacher. I am so lucky to have had him. I have gained more knowledge about English in this past semester than I have in years.
One of the best teachers I have ever had. We actually discuss real life things in this class. I have learned so much. I felt challenged and I loved it. Everyone should get the opportunity to take a class from this man. He has one of the most amazing teaching styles. You will learn so much.
This course was amazing! I wish more people could take classes like his. He is extremely eccentric and that's the best part. He came across as a person. Class discussions were in depth and he was not afraid to let us discuss controversial subjects. The cluster topics were awesome too. By semester's end I had razor honed my writing. He is AWESOME!
I graduated in 2009 from Pitt and ROTC, was commissioned and am in the Army. I thank Dr. Morgan for everything he taught me at PSU. From him I learned to chase knowledge, not the marks as I once did when I came to start my education there.
I'd like to say that I'm very thankful for having the opportunity to be a part of one of his classes. I'm honored to have been in one of his favorite classes. I found him to be an amazing teacher (not crazy at all). I never once was unhappy to be in his class. I hope his future goes well, and look forward to seeing him out and about!
Dr. Morgan is SO energetic! I love his passion for teaching and how he applies his passion when he lectures. For Shakespeare specifically, Dr. Morgan really makes it come alive.
Dr. Morgan is SO energetic. I love his passion for teaching and how he applies his passion. He made Shakespeare come alive. It was an open and energized atmosphere which is nice in a literature course. He really made it so the class seemed to fly by and it was easy to pay attention. He knows Shakespeare and gets you to think past the surface.
Great teacher! He is always super energetic during class and is always very talkative. He is pretty nutty at times but it makes for an interesting class. Definitely recommend!
The mixed methods of presentation in the class, as well teaching to both the BA and BSE audiences gave the class a lot of variety and made it easy to pay attention and get involved.
The class was very good. I certainly learned a lot about the works and had a much deeper understanding of Shakespeare. It helps that Dr. Morgan has an obvious enthusiasm that engages students.
His class really helped my writing improve. I can tell a huge difference in the way I write now compared to the past.
I'd like to say that Dr. Morgan is a very good teacher and this class is way more than an honors writing course. It's about writing AND life. My writing really improved, and my thinking, and I feel that what he taught will stick with me as I go through life. If you qualify for Honors, take his class. You will gain a lot.
I absolutely loved this class. Dr. Morgan was so energetic and made the class fun and exciting. We did not use much computer-aided instruction, but it did not really need to be used. We did stories, poems, plays and films and they came alive with Dr. Morgan's teaching. A writing intensive course, we wrote A LOT. I learned A LOT. Great teacher!
He was "real." He knew what he was and how he wanted to teach. Great professor! Wonderful class.
I wish I had a time machine and go back three years and retake Dr. Morgan's Shakespeare class. It was one of the very best classes in my four years at PSU. I wonder if he is as dramatic now as he was then?
I have learned so much! Prof. Morgan was engaging & engrossing and so enthusiastic. I loved this class. I feel lucky to have had such a passionate & kind teacher. I was not looking forward to this class, but it quickly became one of my all time favorites. :) One negative: it would help to clarify the syllabus and remind about upcoming assignments.
Dr. Morgan is helpful and knowledgeable, devoted to giving feedback on student's working and helping teachers improve their craft. He can be inappropriate at times, usually incidentally, as his sense of humor is black. Worth taking and a pleasure to work with.
He did a solid job in teaching this class and coaching students how to improve their writing and to read for understanding. The works we examined exposed us to a world of ideas from different cultures and times. I enjoyed his approach and found both the class and the material we worked with inspirational. Dr. Morgan is good. Really good.
I thank him for creating an engaging course that made my semester actually interesting. To be perfectly honest, his assignments were the only things that I found much investment in. My other courses were either boring, required, or both. His enthusiasm put him well above other professors as most of them seemed like they'd rather be somewhere else.
I'm not an English major but he is the best professor I've ever had. We discussed the details and meanings of everything. He stimulated my critical thinking skills and changed my views about education & life. I've grown because of him and his class. We wrote A LOT in this writing to learn class and I became a better writer. What a GREAT teacher!
Dr. Morgan was the best teacher I've had at Pitt thus far. Before this class, I hated everything to do with Literature, but somehow, he managed to make this class enjoyable. As a writing to learn class, we did write a lot of papers, but it was nothing unbearable. We took two tests the entire semester. If you put in the effort, you'll get an A.
Dr. Morgan is a nice guy who will definitely get you thinking. There's a lot of writing to do in this course and he's a pretty tough grader. He wants you to think outside the box and go into specific details. I definitely recommend him though. TIP: write your papers after the discussion and make your stance over HIS viewpoint he discussed.
Morgan is wonderful! He is so energetic. You can feel his passion in every class. Gives you plenty of time for assignments. Doesn't usually give long papers. Understands that you have a life. This is the type of individual I would want to work beside for the rest of my career. Genius. Respectable. Not afraid to make a mistake. LOVES Shakespeare.
This writing to learn literature class was an eye-opening and mind-broadening experience. Dr. Morgan's passion for knowledge and his - let's call it unique - teaching style were very inspiring. He gets you to think. We wrote many 2-3 page papers, discussed some mind-blowing films. Not an English major but I'd take a class from Dr. Morgan anytime.
Everything was clear, organized, and precise, especially compared to other professors. He was very passionate about things and kept them interesting. Also, my mind was opened up to a lot of different ideas. I was challenged to think on my own. I very much appreciated this class.
Dr. Morgan brought enthusiasm, energy, and understanding to each class. I had two classes with him twice the fun! He inspired creativity and honesty in written assignments. I wouldn't hesitate to highly recommend Dr. Morgan to any student in any class he teaches. He's a gem.
Kind of odd. He's nice. He's very liberal minded & doesn't really care for conservative and/or religious views. A lot of topics discussed are risque. He seems to want students to reject everything they've ever learned (from school, parents, etc.) He gives good feedback. He just doesn't care for opposing views.
How can we see him so differently? I'm in 190. He never talks politics or religion. He's never told us what to think but that we should think for ourselves. He's never told us to reject anything, only to carefully analyze what we read and hear. He gives great feedback on our papers. He told us day 1 to feel free to disagree with him. Great teacher!
Most inspirational and incredible professor I've ever had. Never have I had a professor teach me more about life and human emotion. This class changes the way you think about learning and inspires you to achieve more than an "A". Go to class, analyze what you read, and admire the works of literature, poetry, and films. It's incredible.
Dr. Morgan has been incredibly supportive to us TAs. The handouts, his counseling and guidance, his accessibility and much more made a huge difference. He is always smiling and upbeat. Speaking for myself, he made me a better teacher--more confident and better organized. This was his last year as the comp program director and he WILL be missed.
Amazing and phenomenal teacher! He makes you think in depth about what is studied and connects all of the works and teachings together. The course is well organized. He grades the writing so well putting lots of effort in his comments. I became a more competent, confident, and professional writer thanks to his input.
Dr. Morgan made class so enjoyable. His fun attitude and mannerisms really kept the class interesting. He was very unpredictable which kept us on our toes. His humor is unique. He is one of my favorite gen ed professors by far and professors in general.
Dr. Morgan was by far my favorite teacher here at Pitt. We were assigned reading and then spend the next couple of classes analyzing the story through discussion. This class really made me think and I loved that. Dr. Morgan has a great sense of humor and easy to talk to. If I wouldnt have missed several days I would have gotten an A. So go to class
He taught us how, not what, to think and how to write well. He is clear, concise, and informative. His willingness to approach the more controversial topics was extremely commendable. He always had both sides covered and could argue either perfectly on a whim. Lyle Morgan challenged us intellectually, and he did a damn good job at that.
Dr. Morgan is so knowledgeable and enthusiastic. He was flexible with the class schedule as needed and gave us in-class time to work on extended projects. Everything I learned was useful to me as a soon-to-be teacher. I LOVE Tom Romano's book! I'm keeping it and plan to use many of its techniques for teaching writing.
I'm an international student who will return to my country to teach English in high school. I'm very glad I was a student of his. I really enjoyed his class! Every time, he reminded me that a person should enjoy his/her job just the way he did.
