Lynda is a phd student in the public administration department, and really knows her stuff. she has tons of life experiences, and will make the most boring class so much fun. GREAT TEACHER !!!!!!!!!!!
This is one of the best teachers ever! If you have the chance to take her, do it. Not only will you come out of her class knowledgeable, you'll also make a good friend. She is willing to help in anything, including advice that has nothing to do with school.
She was my favorite teacher that I have ever had at UCF!!!! Take her class....she is great!
Dr. D was a nice person, but that's it! She didn't hold classes for the first two weeks because she had "real world things" to finish. She tried to cram all the material in even though she missed a lot of class time. Unless you have time to teach yourself, avoid this lady. She will only help you if it doesn't affect her "real world" time.
This lady is a joke, she has a great personality and is a great speaker but that is it! Her class is based off of power point slides and all she does is read them. We did not meet for the first two weeks of class and to make up for her lack of attendance she crammed the material. If you take her be prepared to teach yourself.
class sucks...cancelled class for 2 weeks then had project due that she didnt even talk about once..graded hard and didnt care that she missed so much time...you have to teach yourself or you are screwed
Dr.D has to be the worst professor ever. Her first exam included 9 chapters, she missed 2wks of class. She does not teach, you teach yourself, she does not go over problems during classtime and if she does, she puts the solutions from the manual on the overhead b/c she is not even capable of doing the problems herself. Good luck if you take her!
Exams are HARD!!! In this class you memeorize as much as you can to pass the exam, but do not learn the material. The class has two exams and the highest on the midterm out of all 3 classes was a 79%. Although she does curve, What are you really learning?
HORRIBLE! Sucks at teaching, testing, and life in general. Class teaches you nothing but regurgitation. Of 9 Chapters at a time. Gave project due first day of class and didnt talkabout it once because she skipped the first 2 weeks. Her actions are question her professionalism. She failed as a professor
The class is hard and she makes you work, but you will be amazed at what you have learned.

Dr Dennis has a great personality, but is a HORRIBLE teacher.Take home portion of final was over a chapter not even covered.Exam questions are confusing.
DO NOT TAKE, I HATE Accounting now because of her and her class, didn't learn a single thing because she skipped the first month of class, then tested us over ch 1-17 on the midterm and the rest of the book on the final, tests are IMPOSSIBLE, even if i somehow get a C i'm retaking it because im now screwed for grad school from not knowing anything
HORRIBLE TEACHER!!!! DO NOT TAKE HER! VERY BAD AT TEACHING!!!!!!
the subject material is rough but the teacher is fantastic. I would suggest taking a light load with this class. Load up on the basic business classes with this one. Its a doozy and almost as bad as systems... if you need help in the class, SEE THE TEACHER! She expects you to learn and doesn't hand feed the material. Good luck with this class.
She is a decent teacher... however she makes you work for your grade. She is aware that her tests are hard, and therefore gives like over 20point curves! You have to keep up with the material... u cant be a last min crammer! Dr. Dennis is one of the nicest professors we have at UCF. One tip-- Self disciplin!
exams are extremely hard. 80 questions on exams plus a short problem. impossible to finish during a 3 hour class. she does give big curves on her exams. for one exam she gave a 30 point curve. but you don't learn the material. professor is very nice and helpful. but i would try to take a different professor if possible.
Hard Class in general. Most students blame her for the course being so tough but she does not deserve the blame. The course is flawed and covers too much material. The department is considering spliting the course into two courses. She is a Great teacher and one of the best the department has to offer. My only tip is do homework everyday!
she knows her stuff, the class is just too much material in general. great prof!
Way too much material tested at a time, but she is very helpful when you go to her for help. She gives major curves on the tests.
Horrible class! Very sad that she is the only one at UCF who's teaching Intermediate Financial ACG. Her exams will make your hair fall out. Good luck to you all!
She's very nice and helpful, but the exams are ridiculously hard. Way too much information covered in one time period. If it wasn't for her curves, almost everyone would have failed.
The lady is disgusting. Can't add or subtract, and only pretends she knows what she's talking about. Ask her intelligent questions, and you'll see how limited her knowledge is. I ADORE Accounting and it upsets me the way she flies through the material without teaching us anything. She also has a pompous, snooty attitude. Needs to be fired!
This teacher ROCKS! Everyone who doesnt think so is a baby! She teaches you and doesnt spoon feed the material like other teachers, thats why people dont like her. If you do your homework, and read the chapter youre fine! I learned more in this class than any other at UCF! If you dont come to class you wont pass!
Dr. D is not there to babysit. You definitely need to know everything from your prior ACG classes. Anyone who wants to be a CPA or work in accounting should definitely take this class to see if it's what they really want to do. The mat'l is interesting to true accountants. Tests are hard and timed, but she gives curves.
This class is extremely tough. Tests are modeled after the CPA exam questions, but she gives a very large curve. Very helpful, but you really can't fall behind on the reading or homework or you will be LOST. Gives weekly quizzes on the chapters, which is basically free points if you attend class and pay attention.
Yes, we are college students. Yes, we should be accountable for our learning -- but this class is just insane. We arent CPA's yet. We are still learning! Tests are off the charts. I did and understood the homework, did great on the quizzes (easy points!), then bombed most of the tests. Buy a big bottle of aspirin for this one.
With less than a year towards graduation, this is the hardest class I've taken in my life. Exams are beyond difficult. If it wasn't for her curves, the class average would have been between 40-50% (I wish I were exaggerating). Thank God this class isn't required to graduate with a degree in Accounting.
Her tests are ridiculous. You don't earn the grade. The grade is handed to you through a 30-point curve. She overwhelms you with so much material that you learn NOTHING!! She likes to blame the STUDENTS that they're not trying hard enough in her class & lectures about how we're all slackers.Maybe she needs to realize she doesn't know how to teach.
Test are very hard. Goes through the material too fast. States she can not leave off any material, which I think is false. 1st exam covered like 6 chpts, 2nd exam 18 chts, 3rd exam cumulative about 24 chpts. Very hard class with some new material.Wish you best of luck.
Tests are too difficult for an intermediate level course. Biggest problem is that the tests are timed, and there isn't much time allowed to think through the problems. She makes a lot of errors when trying to show how to do problems on the board. Basically, you have to teach yourself how to do these problems.
You'll do very well if you're a traditional student and can spend a lot of time/energy LEARNING this stuff (I wasn't!). She's very helpful if you've got the time to meet. Highly recommend "Problem Solving Survivor's Guide" by Keiso for practice. Yes, way too much info and tests EXTREMELY hard.
She expects you to be ready for the CPA exam at this stage in your college career. Not happening!
She seemed nice but she really didn't teach the material. She expected you to learn everything on your own. All of the test grades were really bad but she gave big curves. Unfortunately I think she is the only one teaching the class.
She is very good but her tests are very hard. You have to read your textbook before taking her class. I learned a lot of things from her.
She's the only one who's teaching this course. If you don't need this class, DO NOT TAKE HER! Her exams = CPA exam! It's not an easy class to pass.
She's a good teacher, but the class is so hard because of the exams. Her quizzes are not that easy either. Passing her class is like winning the lottery....
Dr. D went out of her way to help students and although the course content is difficult, her grading system is fair and she is one of UCF's few professors worthy of my positive rating !!!
Dr. Dennis is extremely knowledgable and very willing to help. It is definitely helpful to do all of the exercises at the end of each chapter to prepare for exams. It is absolutley necessary that you read the chapters.....perhaps twice if you expect to do well on the exams. The class is difficult, but the material prepares you for the CPA exam.
Very knowledgable and fair! Always willing to help. She's one of the best professors I've had at UCF. She actually gets to know her students by name, and makes class entertaining by throwing candy for responses to her questions. :)
One of the best teachers I have taken at UCF. Extremely smart. Tons of real world experience to draw from. The material is NOT easy but it is the best prep class you will see for the CPA exam. Study study study and you will do well. A lot of effort is needed in this class. She is very helpful though and does all she can for the students.
Her exams were so hard! It really takes a lot studying to pass her exam. If you don't need this class, don't take it. If you do have to take this class, good luck!
Dr. D tries hard to cover a tremendous amount of information. If you complete all the chapter exercises, use the book's study guide, and review the book's online tests, an A is obtainable, but you will work for it! She needs to drop the CPA criteria and "curve" for tests and test students actual comprehension.
Hardest accounting course at UCF. Dr. Dennis is a great professor, but her exams are modeled after CPA exams. Homework every week makes up 25% of your grade. Weekly quizzes are NOT easy, so be sure to study hard. There is no getting out of this course, so just stick it out and pray the semester ends quickly!
Yes, this class is as hard as they say. However, Dr. D is an absolutely amazing professor. She is so intelligent and has such a strong passion for the material that it's hard not to feel passionate about it yourself. Read before class, and do NOT fall behind. This will be your hardest undergrad accounting course, but best undergrad professor.
Dr. dennis does not understand that when we take the CPA we study just for that and nothing eles. she thinks the world revolves around her class alone, but fail to understand that most student have jobs and about 3 other classes to worry about
Tough class but not n impossible A or B. Dr D is an awesome prof. She is very approachable and helpful. 25%for your homeworks, 20% for quizes and 5% for attendance....and you have 50% of the grade in your hands!!! Homeworks are a little time consuming and quizes are fairly tough but they will prepare you for the exams. Timing is important in exams!
This is one of the classes that makes you thinking of dropping out of school. tough assignments, tough class material. teacher doesnt explain anything, passed you homework that was written by her. cant find any similar example on the text. man, i hate this class, dr. dennis knows her stuffs, but she certainly doesnt know how to teach her students
One of the best teacher's I've had at UCF. The material is extremely difficult, and so are her tests, BUT she curves a LOT. As long as you put forth a good amount of effort, you'll be fine.
Dr. Dennis is the best professor I've ever had. The class is really not that bad. I have an A in the class and all I have to get on the final is a 46% WITH the curve to get an A. As long as you study and do the homework problems it's a piece of cake. Easy A. This was the first accounting class though that I actually had to read the book though!
hard material, but good teacher. its a lot of work but its the only way to pass the class
Dr D is the best professor at UCF, no ?s asked. Anyone who doesn't like her, shouldn't be an ACG major. You have to put forth some effort to pass any ACG classes. As long as you do that, Dr D will help you in any way she can. I've never had a more caring professor than her!!! Wish I could have more classes with her!
Dr. Dennis is amazing! yes...it's a hard class but she is the most helpful person in the world! As long as you show her that you put forth some effort she's happy to help you!
Tests are extremely hard for this level
Test are unreal!! Why do a test that needs a 20 curve?
Test are extremely hard
Exams are so very hard. If you can pull a grade "A" on her class, you will be making an excellent accountant.
Tests come directly from CPA exams. Don't expect any sympathy for missing class. Homeworks are impossible to do without outside assistance. If you can't commit 20 hours a week to this one class, don't take her.
Her entire intention is to fail students. She does not wnat you to know but she wants you to struggle and fail at the end. She enjoys in other's failure. That is all. Out of 60 students in her class, 65% drops their classes. If you have dropped the class, you have made a good decision. We need to go to Dean and complain about her.
Yes, 3141 is one of the hardest classes I've taken at UCF, HOWEVER Dr. Dennis is one of the most helpful teacher's I've EVER had. As long as you go to class, and make an effort she WILL work with you to make sure you succeed. The tests are extremely hard, but she curves them a LOT! Just make sure to not fall behind, and I assure you that you'll
Dr. Dennis is not the best teacher. I would suggest you take another teacher if you can. Her projects are impossible, she is just overall impossible. Avoid
I hated this class, we spend so much time doing these long, tedious projects, about 10 total, and then gets silly grades. She takes off points for stupidness, not counting the effort you put into your work. Avoid her, she breaks you down, makes you not want to be an accountant. Give me a break this class does not have to be this difficult.
This class is difficult, but Dr. Dennis is one of the most helpful and caring professors at UCF. The term paper stinks- but you can have as many people in your group as you want. E-mail her your assignment ahead of time and she'll grade it for you and tell you what to change and how to find the correct answers. You can get an A with effort.
Dr D makes this class far too difficult. She makes you do these projects that take hours on end. Some people have the luxury of working in groups, but others may have to work alone, which I felt was extremely unfair. She's funny, but that doesn't make up for the lack of clarity and horrible text book that she denounces in class.
If you need to put a 26 point curve on a test, you need to reevaluate your career.
Dr. Dennis does care about her students and wants to help. She even encourages people to call her, which shows her dedication. Her class, however, is one of the most difficult I have ever taken. If you are unable to work in a group on the projects, this leaves you at an extreme disadvantage because they take SO long.

Students are avoiding governmental accounting classes because of her. She is horrible and needs to reevaluate her way of teaching/testing. It just doesn't work.
Dr. D has changed her class. There is no term paper, there are only 2 "silly" projects. 1 is take home so it's not so bad. She curves a lot. Her quizzes are set up so you can easily get 100% and it's worth 30% of the overall grade. 10% is attendance. She is extremely nice and helpful. She is NOT bad. She has made positive changes from last semester
Difficult course, but the professor is willing to help. Had 4 projects and 3 exams. Projects were time consuming but your allowed to miss 100 pts & still get full credit. Exams were impossibly difficult, but she did curve the exams extensively.
She structured this class so that it's hard to fail, but the subject is still pretty hard. They are about to make it mandatory soon, so it's inescapable anyways. She's really helpful and the slides are very useful. The book sucks tho, so don't bother reading it. She does curve a lot (on the tests and many assignments).
I did not have Dr. D for undergrad accounting, but she was awesome for the graduate level course. Despite some of the reviews I have read, Dr. D made the class enjoyable and she did not try to fail anyone. The majority of the workload is based on two group presentations and weekly articles relating to governmental accounting.
Dr. Dennis is great! She only has 2 projects now (compared to previous postings I've read.) She's very helpful and always gets back to you when you have questions. She makes our class interesting by some of the jokes that she makes. She's also make is VERY clear that if you are a graduating senior to talk to her to make sure you pass. Great Prof!
She is an AWESOME teacher. Even though the class was very hard, she made the class interesting so you don't ever get bored out of your mind. Study hard and do your part and you will do great in the class! I would take her again if she teaches in Grad School.
If accounting wasn't hard enough, the assignments are online and close at 8am on the due date. I've missed a couple due to this weirdness.. thinking I have till monday to do the assignment when in fact the assignment closed before I even woke up that day. Not set up for success, I'm a good student and I'm worried for my grade.
This will be my second time taking ACG 2021 (third if high school counts) only because credits didn't transfer. She is worst teacher ever had in my life. Tests are ridiculously hard and you think you understand the material...until you take the test. Really 20+ pt. curves????
This is Dr. D's first time teaching this course at UCF. She is stuck in her own little world with her family of CPA's. She thinks this INTRO class is an upper level accounting course. Most of the class will be withdrawing today because after everyone failing she refuses to give a test-drop or a curve. She is evil & selfish. Has no mercy.
It really sucks that she is the only ACG2021 tchr. Her tests are full of trick questions and she refuses to curve, even though class average was a 65?? Even if you full understand the mat., expect a C at best. Her voice is extremely obnoxious to stream too, so beware.
This teacher is HORRIBLE. Her tests are filled with trick questions that set you up for failure. She's not very helpful either. She pawns off all her students to the help center. She shouldn't be teaching if she isn't open to other methods of teaching (not everyone learns the same).
Worst teacher I have ever had in my life. DO NOT TAKE HER. She is awful and almost 200 people failed the last exam.
DO NOT TAKE HER. Homework has nothing to do with the book or tests. over 200 people withdrew from her class. Take at community college so you can pass!
studied for weeks for both test first one got a 70% second one got a 35% and dropped the class. i'm an A/B student - hardest class i've ever taken. couldn't understand exam questions (nothing like the book/accting lab/course mob AT ALL) made me want to cry. lol
Don't take her unless you want to waste money or lose your scholarships.
Terrible. Only teacher offered for this course, so didn't have a choice. Tests are ridiculously hard, and the homework is completely irrelevant for tests. We've had two tests so far. Averages on them have been a 66% and a 50%, in a class with 1200 kids and NO CURVE. Blamed it on us for "not reading questions correctly." What a joke
Take at a community college if you want to pass.
This is a basic level class required for all business majors, and this professor is the worst, she offers no curves or extra credit when the test averages are a 66 and a 48 both out of 100 on the first 2 exams, she doesnt drop a test either, and the hw on myaccountinglab is a complete waste of time.
This women is a vile human being. The average on the first test was a 66 and the second was a 48. That is just inconceivable. She blames us for these abysmal scores when she just clearly doesn't know how to teach undergraduate students. Do not take this woman and wait until another professor teaches it.
This professor basically takes the book and makes slides from the chapters. There is no value for the students she teaches as the size of the class is to blame. I loved the idea of being an accountant before this class now I am just hoping that I can pass the class and actually continue on with getting something useful from the business school
This teacher is probably one of the nicest and easiest teachers I've ever had at ucf. Dont believe all the other comments, if you do your hw and study for an hour you can have a B easy. You wont regret this class, trust me. She even put a slide of a llama one time cause she said it was her favorite animal..she makes jokes. Overall shes great
Dr. Dennis is a nice woman and is definitely passionate about accounting. However, the method for this course is unrealistic. Rarely do we go over questions in class and I am struggling to pass even with spending hours with the tutors. The test questions are unpredictable and I still have yet to find a study material to be prepared for the exams :(
Since this is an introductory Accounting class required for all Business majors here at UCF you would think we as UNDERGRADUATE students would be able to somewhat comprehend the material. This is definitely not the case. When averages on the tests are D's and F's you would think she would realize the fault is hers but she just blames her students
aren't teachers supposed to follow the "bell curve" rule? where there are some F's and D's, C's at the top then B's then A's? Because 50/1500 kids got an A on the first exam -_- is there something we can do at ucf? she's the only teacher avail, i'm stuck taking her again next semest.
I am a transfer student and have been taught by many different kinds of teachers in my life. I can honestly say I have never experienced a teacher as bad as her. I have tried to see it the way she does, but she should not be an educator. Please UCF... help your students succeed. She guarantees failure.
I just had to come on here cuz I knew everyone would trash her. Its not her fault the class is hard, its hard material. If you read and watch the lectures and put in work, it is doable. I'm likely getting an A, at worst B+. Its not an easy class, but all these people failing and complaining arent putting in the effort.
Calling this woman a teacher is a flat out insult to real teachers.
This class is really hard and this professor gives a hard test. I do not advise anyone to attend this professors class, she will confuse you more that you already are, just go in for help (not her help) and teach yourself, read the book and follow the "concepts", if you don't know your journal's 100% then your doomed. Good luck with her!
THIS TEACHER IS A TERRIBLE TEACHER! SHE DOESNT EXPLAIN ANTHING WELL! WHATS ON THE HOMEWORK IS NOT ON THE TEST. THE TEST IS CONFUSING AND SHE DOESNT TEACH IT WELL, AND THE STUDENT WHO SAID WE WERE NOT PUTTING ANY EFFORT THATS WHY WHERE COMPLAINING, BULL CRAP! I STUDIED 10+ HOUR EVERYDAY BEFORE A TEST AND ONLY GOT A 63. SHE FAILED HALF THE CLASS!
anyone stuck taking her again next semester? we should complain. i put in effort and got a 70 on the first exam. the hw you can get 100's on but the test ?'s are impossible. considered changing my major bc of this lady-_-
I wish i could curse on here. This teacher is useless, rude, and unreasonable. She tells us that we wont get above a D on her tests. just sent out an announcement saying that she's blocked the final grades (online multiple choice test) until they're posted on ucf in 10 days, an intolerable decision when more than 50% is teetering on failing.
Worst teacher ever!! Doesnt care about her students at all. I know more people that dropped out then that are still in her class. Avoid at all costs
This teacher is a complete joke. I withdrew from this class like a smart person a long time ago. My best friend is currently in the class and has been crying for weeks keep in mind Ive never seen him cry because this women is completely useless. DON'T EVER TAKE THIS CLASS OR YOU WILL BE EXPECTED TO FAIL BE YOUR OWN PROFESSOR.
Not an easy class but not hard either. I got an A in this class by reading the textbook. The homework is long but not very easy.
Must buy and read the book. You HAVE to go to tutoring to even think about passing. You will need to read each chapter around two-three times to understand every little detail that will be on your test. If there is ANY other teacher teaching this subject pick them! She does not care if you pass or fail.
VERRYYYY HARD CLASSSS!!! AT ALL COST TAKE IT AT A COMMUNITY COLLEGE!!!She shows no mercy for you at all. The class average was a 46% on one of the test and nothing was done, obviously theres something wrong when more than half the class FAILS!!! SAVE YOUR GPA AND DO YOURSELF A FAVOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sell your soul before you take accounting with this woman. She will break you mentally, physically, and spiritually. I believe her test questions should qualify as CPA material. You have been warned....
SHE DOESNT CURVE AT ALL! I am an A/B student and I might have just failed the entire class, but I wouldnt know yet because she DOESNT RELEASE THE FINAL EXAM GRADE!! She is the worst teacher I have EVER had. Does not care if people pass. SO glad this is a Prerequisite for all business majors. Might end up changing to education along with many others
This class is kinda easy in my opinion. All you have to do is read the textbook, watch the lectures, and do the homework. If you do all that then you can easily get at least a B. I passed every single exam by just reading the book the day before the exam.
THIS IS A VERY CHALLENGING COURSE!!! It is not the professor because I have taken this course twice and it's the test that are hard-not her! People complain because they want her to spell everything out. We are in college and this is not a hand holding class! READ THE CHAPTERS and PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE the problems in the book.
very hard class, if you use the study guides on myaccountinglab it's a huge help. but i didnt find those until after test 1 and 2. why wont she release the grade for the final?
Curved big time, still hated her attitude.
Yes, this is a challenging class. It's a COLLEGE COURSE. Be prepared to put forth the effort necessary. If you watch the lecture, read the book (maybe a few times) and go to tutoring you'll be fine. Anyone who hasn't done all of the above and got a poor grade should just drop out now, because they don't deserve a degree.
This is a very hard class. There is a lot of work. The teacher helps you as much as she can. She emails back quickly and has open office hours. There is a tutor lab that offers help but it isn't organized very well. The teacher sets the expectations at the beginning of the course. It is hard - NO EXTRA CREDIT. You have to work for your grade.
At the end of the semester, she did CURVED. I feel bad for other people who withdrew earlier. If they stayed, they could have passed this class. I got 2A and 1D on my tests, still manage to get an A. This class is hard, but its too bad. Passable.
Prof. Dennis must have gotten chewed out or something, my test grades were a D and two B's and ended up with an A and 2 new teachers teaching this course. You will definitely learn in this class if you want to succeed; mat. is hard, read the book prior to lectures. Prof. Dennis is decent at covering the material... for the most part.
Hardest class I have ever taken in 5 years at UCF. Lynda Dennis seemed to have a sarcastic attitude in her discussion board. Did NOT like her at all. Take at a community college if you can!
Don't get behind
This was my third time taking this course, she was the best professor at UCF that teaches this course. I reached out to her on the first day and she was open to helping me with everything. The material is the difficult part of this course. You must study, just like any other college course. Study the book and reach out if help is needed and tada!
Does not explain the concept to well. Not at all helpful. Takes off lectures after a week of delivering them. Doesnt elaborate much on the topic. Nothing against her, but I would recommend not taking her! :)
Honestly, this class is ridiculously hard but it's not Dr.Dennis's fault she really does try to teach the material and cares about her students. Class is definitely passable. Just know from day one, read all the chapters, do your homework and watch the lectures. Effort, effort, effort.
I don't think any of the financial accting classes are easy. Her class is passable. A LOT of students drop out after the 2nd test, which is a mistake because they do it on purpose to weed out students.TRUST ME I know from experience. Read the txtbook, do the hw&STUDY PLANS b4 tests. Go to SARC& her offce hrs. If you want that A/B you HAVE TO DO THIS
Ridiculously hard. Had a personal tutor for the class and I still failed the exams. Had to drop this class. I am an A/B student and this is my first class that I was a failure in. I'm retaking it and I'm understanding it with a DIFFERENT professor.
A REAL REVIEW: Dr. Dennis barely scratches the surface of the material required to pass her exams in her lectures. The practice problems she attempts to do as examples, wind up looking like chicken scratch on the projector and are completely unhelpful. READ THE BOOK AND YOU WILL PASS, if you do not, you will fail. It is as simple as that.
If you take this class you are wasting your time. She is a horrible teacher. I'm sure she is a great accountant, but she is a terrible teacher!! Im retaking this class at a community college for summer A and already have a better understanding for the materials because of how bad of a teacher she is. I hope she gets fired!
First of all, my major is Psychology. Prof. Dennis in my opinion did her job. She tells you that you need to read your book before class so you're not lost and the exams are decent if you know what you're doing. The class average was a 65 and I got A's on all my exams. I would recommend getting the review workbook with the text. JUST PRACTICE!
She is a great professor. People who complain want her to do the work for them. This is not an easy class but if you ask for help she will give it to you. Read the chapters and do all of the extra homework problems and you will pass the class. Don't be afraid to ask her for help!
I took this class twice (both with her). I failed the first time and got a B the second. What you put into this class is what you will get out of it. I never bought the textbook for either semester. I actually studied her powerpoints the second time and watched lectures and did well on the tests. Do the homework it will help your grade!
I had to withdraw from her class because I did not understand her teaching skills. Her exams are not like the material she teaches, each exam is setup different than her examples and the Connect assignments. Unless you are interested in accounting or are good at teaching yourself....this is NOT the teacher for you.
Awesome person and very knowledgeable. Shes a great teacher, but the tests do not correlate to the Connect/lectures. I literally gave up my social life this semester and sleep to even attempt to pass this class. Read the book like she says. I go to tutoring every week AND study groups. If you work like she says and play the game you'll get a C.
Dr. Dennis is a nice person, but her teaching method makes it extremely difficult to learn. Her exams are worded as if a lawyer wrote them, making them confusing. Due dates for assignments tend to be inconvenient, impacting other courses. And the exams do not match up at all with the lectures or the homework. Sadly I will have to take this again...
Dr. Dennis is a very nice and knowledgeable lady but you will not do well if you don't read and understand the book. Her lectures aren't very helpful and the assignments don't really prepare you for the confusing exams. The due dates are for some assignments are inconvenient so definitely keep up with it since these assignments to keep up grades.
While you can tell Dr. Dennis thoroughly enjoys the subject, I feel that there were not that many tactics built to help us succeed. We were unable to even view our past tests to determine what our strengths and weaknesses were. We also only had 80 minutes for our final, which for some was the most important test of the semester.
I honestly dont understand the hate towards Dr Dennis. She teaches well, provides a blog summarzing in detail EVERY CHAPTER in the book, and YOUR in control of 40% of ur grade thru assignments. Be responsible and put in the effort, read the book, go to lectures, read her blog, and you'll be fine. It's a challenging course, Dr Dennis teaches it fine
This teacher is awful! She tells you to call her anytime and email her questions and when you do she replies in a paragraph long basicly telling you to ask a TA...? yeah, pathetic. Her lectures are long and uninteresting... TEXTBOOK IS A MUST - it is the only thing that got me through this course! Exams are HARD and cover material you never expect
Dr. Dennis is a great professor and makes the material very easy to understand. The course is difficult, but she makes the class very easy to pass, with 40% of your grade coming from homework that you can redo until you get 100%. I am shocked by all the complaints on here - the course is not easy and requires effort, but is in no way unreasonable.
Dr. Dennis isn't a bad professor but she makes this class difficult. All the exams, not just the final, are cumulative so you don't want to get behind on the information. She also doesn't give you your previous exams to study from, making it difficult because the assignments and the study guides are completely different formats from the exams.
Unfortunately, this professor writes her own tests leading to confusion on how to answer the question, misspelled words and answer choices with no correct answer. Practicing HW may help for understanding the concepts but the tests are written in such weird ways that it is almost impossible to get an A.
Dr. Dennis is an absurd professor, a good accountant but an absolutely horrible teacher. Her class has been the worst experience I have had at UCF to date. I would rather go feet first into a woodchipper than go through her confusing unhelpful course again. I have a straight 3.8 GPA in college. and her test 2 had an average of 38% with no curve.
Unclear about expectations and inconsistent. She heavily emphasizes certain concepts in class only to not even test us on it. The concepts are not difficult but her tests are confusing making it difficult to get a decent grade. I would take another professor and avoid her at all costs.
This course, in theory, should not be incredibly difficult to succeed in. In practice, however, Dr. Dennis makes this class nigh impossible. The average test grades are well below "50%", and they don't reflect homework material, class material, or review material. She is a good accountant, but a terrible teacher. Avoid her if possible. Seriously.
Dr. Dennis can kiss my assets, this class will be a long term liabilty for you. She's the defenition of a bad debt expense. The residual value of your GPA will depreciate. Plan to finanance your inventory of adderal if your take this course. You can write her off as a teacher and go ahead and debit that while your at it.™
Doing the homework, watching the lectures and completing the exam reviews are almost useless. She emphasizes a certain amount of concepts in class that has you focused and set on one thing and on the test she throws a massive curveball introducing different concepts that you would have guessed to be of minor importance due to her not covering it
I took this class online. I got A on my first exam, however, I failed my second exam since I did not watch the lecture online. However, I still ended with a good grade in this class. Honestly, this class is hard, not the teacher, although she does not provide any extra credit. You really need to push yourself in order to get a good grad.
Disrespectful to students.
This class is ridiculously hard. The material in the book seems pretty easy to understand, but the exams are IMPOSSIBLE! None of the hw, practice problems are as difficult as her exams. She teaches the most basic accounting skills and expects you to be able to apply them to extremely difficult test problems! I would not recommend this class!
Professor Dennis inadequately prepares students for exams. You can do all the homework, practice problems, listening to lectures and reading you want, but nothing will prepare you for her tricky test questions which seem to blindside students even with proper preparation. This course/teacher need to be completely revamped, worst class i've taken.
the class material wasn't that hard, but easily the worst teacher I've had so far, don't take her for this class
this class is what you make of it. the bonus is that she really cares about her students. she is one if not the nicest teacher on campus
Take it at your local community college. Nice lady, great accountant, not so great teacher.
I do not recommend taking her. Super hard class even if you pay attention to the lectures and complete all of the homework.
Was very difficult. Tests were needlessly difficult with confusing questions and did not reflect the homework.
Dr. Dennis cares a lot about her students. Accounting is not for everyone and she does what she can to help people understand. You have to be willing to put in the effort and do the work every week. Overall, she is an excellent professor dealing with students who are forced to take her class and don't bother to try to understand.
Very nice and helpful; tries her best to explain the material, but her expectations don't match what might be those of an intro class. Do ALL hw EARLY & UNTIL YOU GET 100% (you'll need every pt), read every exam q 3x (until you're ABSOLUTELY SURE you know what she wants), watch/dl the lectures early. Did "meh" on two exams, bombed one, and got a B.
Avoid her if you can. Class is set up to pass easily but doing well will be hard. Tests are confusing and not like hw and lectures. Do all the hw as you will need it to pass and is about half of your grade. I didn't use the book and still got a B.
Unfortunately she is the only professor that teaches nonprofit accounting. But if by any chance you can avoid her, do it! The material is not difficult but the tests are very challenging. She gives nice curves to her exams since almost no one ever gets a 100%. Assignments are not hard with unlimited time and attempts and about a half of the grade.
Unfortunately this class is mandatory for Accounting majors. Class consists 50% grade from projects, and 50% from 4 Exams. Exams are insane. She showed us that the majority of the class got the exam questions wrong. Make sure you do good on ALL your projects and expect to fail exams.
WORST TEACHER AT UCF. She doesn't give you any tools to study, your on your own. Textbook won't help you either she uses different names for accounts. Even when you ask her a question she doesn't answer straight forward. She's useless. Bright side of the class is the class average for her exams are about 50% so she curves. You'll still fail though.
Worst class I ever took. Dr. Dennis is nice and smart but such a terrible teacher. Textbook is a nightmare to read. Majority of students fail exams and projects are terribly worded and based on concepts ineptly taught. TA also has a bad schedule for a majority of classmates. So make sure your TA is on your schedule, you will need him/her.
Worst class!! She CANNOT teach. She provides NO help. You're on your own and she acts like she WANTS you to fail. The activities she gives are a random guessing game that will take you days. So doesn't give you anything to practice. She doesn't post her power points. MOST confusing textbook I've ever read. horrible horrible professor.
Do not take Dr.D if you can avoid it. Whether that means taking this class during the summer or another semester, just avoid her. Tests averaged 65% and curves were around 10 percentage points per test. There are projects also that are extremely difficult and pointless in my opinion. The textbook is pretty useless and expensive.
Avoid her if possible. Her lectures are useless and HW is just busy work. Neither her lectures or HW remotely resemble her tests. Tests were hard and had to curve to keep majority of the class from failing. Treats everyone like they want to be accountants.
I am not sure if she turned a new leaf because despite what I have heard, she is a wonderful woman. As we enter the second half of semester, she has extremely thorough with instructions and her lectures. She tells you straight up how it is. Then, it is your responsibility to make sure you grasp all the concepts and are able to apply them!
She is a cute and quirky nerd, very knowledgeable and passionate. She is not a hard instructor; the material is just difficult at first glance. Study a great deal and read ASSIGNED pages of the book. She tells you what she does not expect you to learn. LISTEN TO HER. Don't be intimidated, it is not as scary as it seems. You can do it!
She is a very knowledgeable professor but not the most interesting. The homework gave you 4 attempts when i took it and tests were challenging, but you got what you put in. I got an A with hard work
She posts her powerpoints now but sometimes she'd post the same 1 3 times just to add a slide or 2. Nice and tries to be helpful but be ready to teach yourself. The pace of lectures is frantic so it's best to record things. Teach yourself class basically. You can get a A-/B if you get near or above perfects on the projects and C/Ds for exams.
Taking her forAccounting for Gov and Nonprofit. I also took her for ACG 2021. Figured I just had a bad experiance the first time... Nope just the worst professor I have ever delt with. For the love of god try and take this class over the summer with OKeefe because "Professor" Denis will not help you but give you a polite "That sucks"... Good luck..
She is a terrible teacher and my ratings, I assure you, are accutate. I had to take her in undergrad and the experience was miserable. I am eternally grateful that her graduate international accounting course was not required... :-)
The disconnect between what professor Dennis wants you to understand (for the sake of exams and projects) and what she actually instructs or (let's be honest) provides material to self-instruct is CRAZY. I've never felt more lost than I do looking at what she thinks she's taught us. I have no idea what qualifications she has to be a university prof
Take this class over the summer with another professor. The average grades for exams are low DsHigh Fs. I myself got an A, but it was extremely hard to achieve. The projects are ridiculously difficult, taking between 10-30 hours to complete each. If you have to take this class, make sure to find a good study group
Good teacher but the topic is challenging. The projects are not too difficult, but require time, and collaboration. Start the projects as soon as they are assigned and you will have no problems. The exams mirror the projects. Do not skip class and you should get an A.
I loved Dr. Dennis! She was very good at explaining the material and made it very clear what she was looking for in class and on assignments. Attendance was critical. She gave extra credit during lectures and would talk about things in class that were on the test but not in the book! Material is difficult. An understanding of cash accounting helps!
I think she was an amazing teacher! Many students did not like her but I think that the class itself was not bad! She makes sure you can pass the class by giving projects that are worth test grades, so about 55% of the grade you can get 100% if you do the work.
Lectures are basically irrelevant. read to succeed
Tests and projects are poorly written. The class average for exams is around a 58 . She's very nice but unfortunately tries to reinforce the concepts with unclear problems from the book. Stating there is no answer "it depends". I personally don't think the material is the problem it's your abilility to interpret what is being asked of you.
Worst! She is not helpful, so be ready to teach yourself! Material is not difficult, but she doesn't have ability to convey the material clearly. She doesnt grade assignments in a timely manner, so you have no idea about your progress in her class before the withdrawal deadline that tells she doesn't care about students success.
do no take her class if you can avoid it. she is an incredible nice person wand her lectures were very entertaining but her timetable is whacked. We were taking the chapter quizzes and submitting spreadsheet activities weeks before covering the material in class. WEEKS! Unless you are able to teach yourself from the text, DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.
Taking her class and the experience is miserable.
Dr. D is awesome, but not so great at teaching. She fully expects you to know all the material before you get to her lecture, if you don't, the lecture is gibberish. Make sure to read ahead and do the projects as soon as you can . Took me half the semester to figure that out, but was very successful the 2nd half.
Professor Dennis only gives out three exams, of which, are deliberately meant to trick you. Don't get fooled by her first day speech of "don't believe ratemyprofessor". Although she has a good attitude, she is a poor teacher. Projects are about 40% of your grade and are EXTREMELY time consuming and very unclear. Grading takes forever, zero help.
pros- shes nice, no attitude, extra credit offered, curve on tests cons- very disorganized (some info in class/ book/ powerpoints are all different), you can read and memorize the book and powerpoints and still have a high chance of failing her tests because it's so tricky and difficult, takes forever to grade projects which are also difficult
She is nice, and you might think that you can do well in class... However, I cannot learn from her. It mortifies me that I am paying so much money for a class just to study to earn a letter grade and not because I am really going to learn from the class. Be prepared to work for hours and hours on the projects. Worthless book!
Pretty miserable experience.
Tough topic and the book is awful. She's very smart and offers help if you ask but the tests are incredibly difficult. She curves and offers extra credit. Not an easy class, take with a light course-load if possible.
Very unclear with material. Really hard and confusing teaching style, doesn't explain anything.
Projects are crazy hard. Grading takes forever. I would stay away from doing any kind of working or studying in groups or you "may/will" get accused of cheating and sent to student conduct (a lot of people have from this class, 50 or so students). The exams are tricky but somewhat fair, they would be easier if the lectures were any kind of helpful.
This is the only professor I have ever taken who GOES OUT OF HER WAY to make things convoluted and vague, forcing you to infer what she wants... and you will be wrong. A lot. Class averages for tests are often in the 50-60% and she blames that on you not reading carefully. Avoid her class if possible. I wish I would have...
She's a tough lady, but I respect her. Material is very dry and most of us will probably never use this knowledge at any point in our career. Make sure you get all the points in McGraw Hill, some partial credit on the excel projects and an average grade on the exams and you'll pass.
Can get pretty confusing with tons of differences between the book/lecture. Tests are normal, IDK what everyone else is talking about. But the projects (15% of grade) are hell, with no guidance and vague instructions. Dennis is pretty nice, but will often give 2 different answers to the same question. Would be great, if only more concise.
Professor Dennis is a great teacher! After reading these reviews I was scared going into the class, but quickly found out there was nothing to worry about. Professor Dennis is always available and willing to help if you need extra assistance. The tests are very fair and there is no surprises other than maybe having to do a little critical thinking!
I wanted to like the class, and I hated it. Dr. Dennis is a nice person, and I mean no disrespect, but she should have stayed in government work. She seems like she would be good at doing this work and not teaching it. Dry lectures, strange exams, and *gross* group projects. Did I learn? Yes. So mission accomplished, but it was not pleasant.
I really enjoyed Dr. Dennis. I felt I learned a lot from her. Non-profit is a tough subject but she tries very hard to make it understandable. I enjoyed her real world stories, they made the material easier to understand. I would take her again!
The worst teacher in UCF. Try to avoid her class if you can but she is the only one who teaches Government and Non-profit so far. Her lecture and power point are very poor quality, she goes so fast in class, and expects you know everything. My grade in her class cause affects to my total GPA.
Dr. Dennis is an exceptional professor. ACG3501 is challenging but she explains it very well and works hard to ensure that her students are successful. Most negative reviews are from students that were not willing to put in the work to do well.
She lectures very well but course material is way harder than what it really needs to be. Her exams are very hard and her projects are just convoluted and vague. take her course with a light schedule. Do well on the projects and the connect work and you'll pass just fine. Avoid any type of group work because you will be immediately sent to admin
I admire Dr. Dennis and think she is amazing at what she does, but I do think she makes this course harder than it needs to be. Tests are tricky and projects are vague. I know she does this to prepare us for the real world, but government accounting is tricky and most students aren't familiar with it. She expects us to have pre-existing knowledge.
She is the worst professor in UCF.
She is the best professor at UCF.
I wanted to like Dr. Dennis. The class average on one of her excel/quiz assignments was a 36.4%. She claimed we "didn't read the instructions well enough". Went over test answers and 5% of the class got the right answer. She said it was because we "didn't read the question properly." Refuses to take blame for terrible grades.
What should be an introductory course is taught like an advanced course. There is no reason the average accounting student needs to have a such a comprehensive, in-depth understanding of government accounting. The Excel projects are ridiculous.
Saying that she is hands down one of the worst professors I have ever taken is an understatement. If you decide to take this professor get ready to teach yourself.
Her class wasn't the hardest that I've ever taken, and she's a good lecturer. The course was interesting. HOWEVER, she's not a good teacher at all. She did not communicate well. Her instructions were very unclear. She took off for things that you didn't even know you were supposed to do. It is by far the most frustrating class that I've ever taken
Honestly, I really wanted to give Dr. Dennis the benefit of the doubt. But towards the end of the course I finally just lost all hope. Yes, she is a great lecturer. However, she does not provide students with enough info to be able to successfully complete assignments. Material isn't hard, she just makes the class & exams way harder than necessary.
Tests were hard, but she does apply a curve. Study, study! Homework and lectures are important to pass. She is a good teacher and full of knowledge and experience.
Fantastic professor, plenty of real world experience, and great personality to listen to. I enjoyed her class thoroughly.
Class is structured to get a B easy as long as you do decent on exams (65%) and do really well on the other homework, packback, pivot excel assignment etc, but you will have to work hard for an A. Packback assignments are easy but you don't learn anything from them. HARD exams (65% avg for class) but applies a curve. I would avoid at all costs.
The class is well structured. Exams are hard, but only weighted about half of all grade. B is achievable as long as you study and doing well on the assignments. Her lecture is not boring, she is funny too( sometimes).
Professor Dennis is by far the worst professor I've had at UCF. The work load for this class is 5 times more than any other class I've taken. She thinks her class is the only class you are taking. Most frustrating thing about this class was how vague her directions were for her excel assignments, and the feedback she gives on them does not help.
Dr. Dennis is retiring in the spring, if you have to take this class wait until after the spring, or take the other professor. She is nice enough but the course itself is incredibly difficult and she doesn't make it easier for you.
The good: She's an engaging lecturer and very knowledgeable. The bad: Each week she assigns 2-4 assignments that are due on different days, instead of combining them and making them due on the same day. Grading is random -- she does not provide a grading rubric and takes a lot of points off for small mistakes.
