She's a good teacher w/ a weird temper. She brings personal problems to the classroom and ends up lashing out at some student. It can be embarassing to the student...
Good professor, had a hard time fall 2003 - spring 2004 she lost her son in the summer 2003. That can be devestating but she held together.
She is a very nice lady. This class reguires a lot of work. She is one of the people who wrote the book for this class so she knows the material very well. But for the most part this is a fairly easy class. Just stay ontop of reading and the assignments.
She is a kind person, cares about her students. She is willing to work with you. The class is easy, test m/c easy. Alot of busy work. A assignment or journal is due every class, but easy. Keep up with turning in all the class work and get an easy "A"
She is a nice teacher. Willing to help you during her conference time. Journal and assignment due every week but if u didnt do it you can still turn it in late during an exam. She explains the assignment and journals and also talks about each chapter.
She's the author of the book. i took her in the 3wk. class. Stayed up almost every nite til 1am to do journals and assignments. Not a hard class, just a lot of paper work. I got an A. Offers extra credit.
this lady is whack. her exams are not doable. shes really quirky, and acts really strange. her lectures do not cover whats given on the exam. only essays are whats covered on the exam. shes crazy.
All she does in class is basically recite the book she co-wrote. There was no point in even going to class. She also give ALOT of "busy work". It would probably be better taken as a distance learning class.
Avoid at all cost if u hate homework like i do. Her test are M/C but most of them are applied questions. I rather take an essay than those kinds of test. In other words your gona spend hell of a more time studying just to get an A. If you have a busy schedule try to avoid her. she is nice but the class is harder than it should be.
Excellent teacher. Very enthusiastic. Loves her job and wants you to do well. Gives lots of opportunity for extra credit. Do the work and easily get an A. Make sure to do the study guides, you will do excellent on the tests. The people that complain are probably lazy and don't do the assignments.
im currently taking her class and she is awesome all you have to do is the journals and assigments and your good other than that its a piece of cake, her tests are pretty easy all you have to do is ALOT of studying.... but she is pretty nice...
She wrote the book so she knows the material pretty well. All you need to do is read the book and you should be fine. She has some funny stories and involves the class in discussions. She has a weird pet peeve about students yawning. But, I will recommend her, she was nice. I got a B in the class but that was my laziness.
SHE IS NOT EASY AT ALL DONT BE FOOLED
Excellent teacher. She did write the book and knows the material VERY well. She gave us tons and tons of homework and didn't cut us slack just because it was a 6 week summer course. Was tough but I didn't mind doing the work at all and would take her again in a heartbeat. Got an A in her class, but I sure worked hard for it.
Very nice teacher and also very helpful. She gives a lot of homework but is not that hard just long. If you do your homework and do extra credit you can pass the class in a heartbeat.
Class is easy I got a A. Homework is long, Test are lil difficult, extra credit comes in handy two ways: 1. its extra points 2. it makes a great sudy guide for those Exams or quizzes.
Mrs. Dodgen is a great prof. She gave out TONS of extra credits. Assignments are kind of long, but there are no right or wrong answers. Just make sure that you don't leave any blank and you will get all the credits. Exams are ok, but the final exam is extremely hard. I could've gotten an A,but failed the finals. I got a B+ in her class. Take her!
She is not a good teacher, she gives you to much work like writing essays and long quizes. Her test are hard, the lecture is boring, and she doesn't give you a study guide for the test. Just don't take her take rapp they said she is easier.
The class is not interesting at all, she is nice, but when you don't participate in her class she will pick on you and ask you questions. It's really hard to pass her class I've berly passed her class.
She is perfect, I like her. Her class is student-oriented and interesting. Just follow her and you will get a high score. Strong recommend her!
Easy Class as long as you do the work! TONS of Extra Credit up to 35pts for each test! NO HOMEWORK! No in class Quizes or Essay's however there are TGA's which are worth 10pts, sometimes you can use your book, otherwise she expects you to know the Chapter. Overall very helpful, nice and sweet. I either made a High B or a Low A not sure yet!
The class is full of fun, and the on-line quiz is extremely easy, you can find in the book directly. She is extremely nice and helpful. You could ask questions any time anyway. And she cares her student, when you face difficulties, she will point out the right way for you. Besides that, tons of extra credits, EASY A!
The class is helpful and interesting, she will guide you to apply theory into practice, so you will learn a lot from her. Strong recommend! If you do homework and preview the book, choose to do a little extra work, Easy A! Since a lot of extra credits for you
Love her class, full of fun,a lot of extra credits for you. Just do it, you will get A
If you attend class regularly and attach attention on your lecture, then you will have a high feeling in the exam. Since it totally comes from your class, what you need do is just review the notes and pay attention to key persons's name, then A
Makes class interesting. I would recommend doing as much extra credit as possible. Tests are tough compared to daily work and quizzes.
Took her for summer class online. 3 tests and 1 book report. No extra credit. If you read the book and put forth the effort on the book report you will get an A. You must read the text if you intend on doing well on the tests, however very easy if you do. Great teacher, highly recommended.
I took her online class and I DO NOT RECOMMEND HER AT ALL if u you have the time and the ability to read lots and lots of material and this would be the only class you are taking and you can lecture yourself, then go ahead and take this teacher, but if you have other responsibilitis and other classes then do not take this teacher. all I had to do i
All you have to do is read alot, there's 3exams and abook report but you never hear from her,no discussions,no reviews you just have to remember the time you must take the test and it is timed for 80 min, one attempt and very hard questions and if you call or email her she is very rude and she makes you feel stupid. She's not ateacher that I would re
Online course - paid to be a glorified test administrator. Paid to teach a class yet teaches nothing, offers no expert insight, and provides zero tools for doing well in class. There is an optional study guide to purchase but still no guarantees. This class is lacking the other elements that reinforce material - discussion, feedback, chapter work.
Online course - glorified test administrator. Paid to teach a class yet teaches nothing, offers no expert insight, and provides zero learning tools. Disappointed LSC would go for this
Dr. Dogden is fair. This is not an easy class. You will work your fanny off and read until you're blue in the face. BUT! She's fair, she's helpful and she communicates. She doesn't GIVE grades, you EARN them! I like her. Would I take the class again? No. But, I don't have to! I made an A! And, so will you if you read and do the work.
She's a very sweet lady and she teaches very well. I recommend her to you guys just you have to do your work and read the book :) and since she wrote the book with more of a reason to shes really strict with TGA's and WAM's so do them. you have to do your work to pass her class. but overall its pretty obvious it goes for each class.
Took this class online as a mini summer mester. Lots of reading but class is easy. quiz and short paper due for every chapter but all very easy. Finals a little challenging but the teacher is great. She always responds in a timely manner
this was the worst teacher i ever had. she did not clearly explain her assignments.i had taken this class for a mini semester and she was asking extremly to much in a four day period.she wanted five essays 500 words and five exams in four days. so my advice is to think twice before taking her class. foreal!!!!!!!!!
I advise you not to take this teacher in a mini semester. She do not explain her work and she is very RUDE.....
She's a great teacher! She is very passionate about Sociology. Those who are writing bad reviews for her are those who don't do their work and do them on time. she is a very fair teacher and will give you the grade you earned. I learned a lot in her class so go to class everyday and gives a lot of extra credit. you just have to do the work!
This is the worst class I have ever taken.. There are 3 tests over random things. Dates and names more than the concept of the course. Then One book report. Just a HORRIBLE class. Killed my 3.8 GPA..
Awesome teacher! Lots of reading, but she is very responsive, gives tons of extra credit and very helpful!
I don't know why she has bad reviews. She's awesome! Yes the class is a lot of reading, but it's college get over it. All you have to do is read the textbook and you will get an A on the test. If you complete the study guides for the chapters they are extra credit on the test. I literally got over a 100% in the class without trying very hard.
Professor, Dodgen Is an amazing professor. She is very "To the point". She makes sure if you need help that she helps you. She is more then willing to meet with students and guide them in the right direction. If you do your work you will pass with a good grade.
If you're taking this course online buy the book BEFORE it starts! I had issues w/ that and hated this class from the beginning. Course load is heavy and tests are kinda hard, but if you do the work, you can make an A! I did not do the extra credit, but there is plenty available if needed. In the end, you learn a lot, so not a bad class.
She wrote the book. You are reading that book inside and out. Not interesting class. A lot of work! Hard grader. Terrible.
This class is so easy to pass. Do your quizzes and WAMS. Read your book and take notes and study for the exam is all the advice I can give. She is very helpful too.
Expect a lot of reading, homework, and writing. This class gets straight to the point. there is no reason to fail this class. If taking the class online get the book before, quizzes are easy but the test are nothing like the quizzes (critical thinking questions).
She's a really nice lady. She does a point system. Expect a lot of busy work. You have 15 mini essays called WAMS and 15 chapter quizzes one for each chapter. You need the text book and you need to attend class for assignments. She makes you work for the extra credit. Tests aren't what is covered in class; just concepts. focus on details
This class is not difficult to pass IF you are willing to do the work. She assigns lots of homework, but tends to be forgiving with due dates. Tests cover concepts, so while knowing terminology is important, you will definitely need to understand how those terms apply in "real life situations" to pass exams.
I took a 5 week course for sociology 1301 online with Professor Dodgen. She gives a clear syllabus and yes you need to read the textbook in order to pass. She cares about sociology and wants you to understand it and pass. Work is not super difficult you just have to put some time into writing the "wam's" and reading the chapters. I loved the class
This class was a lot easier than I expected. It is a lot of reading, and lots of online work. But, Professor Dodgen sets you up for success. As long as you do the work, show up to class, study the material and participate, the test part of it should be easy.
It is a lot of work had to do wams and study to pass but she is ok i guess
I really enjoyed taking Professor Dodgen's sociology class this semester! You definitely have to work hard for your grade, be on time AND make sure not to miss class if you don't have to as you will miss tons of information. This class is actually not that hard. Just do all your WAM's and quizzes online , READ and you'll be fine.
I enjoyed taking Ms. Dodgen class. It was pretty simple and if you did the Wam's and payed attention in class. Most of the work is online and some is in class. She was very patient and understanding and will work with you. Just study and do your work and you will easily pass the class for the semester.
It's not the content that is tough, its the course load. Intro to sociology, 3 week minimester looks like this: 15 500 word essays, 15 chapter exams, 3 unit exams and 1 comprehensive final. She doesn't use D2L, and her alternative is crap. Exams are easy enough, no studying really. It's just the courseload! Not reasonable for a 3 week class.
I took my Socio 1301 class with Professor Dodgen and she was wonderful! You have to read the chapter before you come to class. She sticks the people who don't read in the same group and you are left confused with no help. In class papers are prep for WAMs and she grades daily. Tests are slightly difficult but extra credit is offered.
Easy content. Easy assignments, just a LOT of assignments. I barely got a B, but that's just because I was lazy and didn't turn in everything. You won't pass if you dont show up. Lecture heavy, but I actually liked class. Prof Dodgen encourages students to ask questions and give feedback to her lectures.
she's good.
3 exams + final. If you get at least a 70 or above on each exam and do her extra credit you will get an A in the class. Her exams are difficult but if you do all the extra credit she offers you'll pass. She's really funny and patient. You can tell she loves her job. Her lectures are never boring. She made me enjoy soci more than I thought I would!
She uses the textbook, the answers for the quizzes are in the textbook. She gives a long time to do her assignments but if you wait to the last minute you won't finish. you need to study for her exams. She does have many extra credit opportunities, assignments given in class are the same as your hw, she is AMAZING and super sweet, she gives snack!
Best teacher, always ready to help. Of course, you have to study in order to pass the class but she is so sweet. Quick in replying emails or text messages. Loved her.
not recommended.
Professor Dodgen is absolutely sweet and caring. I took this as an online course although I didnt get to meet her I feel like I know her. She gives extra credit and is clear with her work. I definitely recommend her! She wants you to pass but you have to obviously participate and do as she asks which isnt much
Very easygoing class, a gpa booster for sure. You get to learn about sociology at a fair pace, one chapter a week. You do a quiz over the chapter and write about how you relate to it! Highly recommend professor Dodgen, shes lovely and emails updates all the time! This was the least stressful class out of my full-time course load.
amazing professor! she's the sweetest. This class was very easy, do 1 chapter every week and don't stay behind and you'll be all good. She also gives extra credit opportunities. I would most definitely take her class again.
THE SWEETEST PERSON EVER! I love her, she's super nice and caring! She always gives super sweet feedback! She let us start class a week early! It's the second day of class and I'm literally in the last chapter! In order for you to pass you just have to read and pay attention! I RECCOMEND YOU TO TAK HER CLASS! She also gives extra credit! 10/10!!!!!
Detailed syllabus and assignments were open before the semester began so that gives you a chance to get a head start. 3 quizzes, final exam, WAMs on each chapter and a bunch of extra credit available. Great communication via email and the work is self paced so as long as you stay on top of it it's an easy A
Professor Dodgen was overall an amazing professor. I didn't know what I was getting into with sociology, but she made the sociology easy to understand. The class I took as 100% all online and did require a textbook. It can be a lot of reading, but the assignments are super easy along with the quizzes and tests. Big thank you to Professor Dodgen!
Her class was alright better than other professors available
An amazing teacher, gives clear feedback and makes sociology fun and easy to understand
Before I start I don't remember my course number so my class may be easier or harder than yours. She is such a lovely professor. She brings snacks to classes and I was looking forward to them. She gives clear instructions and lots of extra credit. I was actually able t pass the class because them lol. But takes the class tho you will not regret it.
Overall an easy going class. She makes lectures understandable. Only thing that got me off guard was her exams!! Is all multiple choice, but beware her answer choices are so tricky! All the answer choices be sounding like their right. Other than that class work is doable. Gives a-lot of extra credit which helps your overall grade
As with most classes, there's a lots of reading and with this one, a good deal of writing. Participation matters because the material covered in class will make up the assignment for that day. She definitely believes in providing extra credit work if needed. She really does care about the outcome of her students. The grading structure is clear.
Homework is easy its all online open book but a lot of writing. She gives lots of EC so that's good. She will only lecture and not fully go over what is on the test so study each chapter on your own and KNOW YOUR VOCAB!
She has some "implications" per say.
You will be writing a lot. These writing are called WAMs, her grading is unclear and makes no sense. These WAMs about your personal experience but the questions can be about polygamous marriage. Like how to I include personal experiences with that??????
She is very harsh
I would not recommend her class she's very monotone, grading is very confusing because does not do work on D2L but her own website that pretty much needs tech support all the time. Does not help when emailed and assignments are long plus testing is difficult because study guides go over two topics that aren't even tested. Just very outdated.
Although Professor Dodgen was very sweet, I would not take her class again. As others have mentioned, she uses her own website through which you will access the coursework, which is outdated and difficult to navigate. The exams are the worst; every answer seems like the best one, and she has questions that are not in the review. Beware!
super sweet teacher, always gave out candy at the end of lectures but, ,, teaching itself was not great. lectures were short and barely had any information. if you wanted to learn and prepare yourself for the test, you had to either read the expensive textbook or review the terms on a hard to navigate website she uses for quizzes and wams.
Professor Dodgen can be nice at times but she has a weird teaching style her lectures are short and she just reads form the textbook. I wouldn't recommend talking her class she uses her own website . She forgets things and personally I feel like she shouldn't be teaching. She gets annoyed if you suggest new ideas..
Great professor, but the class is very rigorous. Lectures don't always match quizzes, and there's a lot of reading. Don't rely on the final exam study guide. The class uses her website. You must do all assignments and extra credit to pass—they're not optional
easy work, goes off track a lot and the lectures barely have anything to do with the work which is weird since she's reading from the same book you need to study for the class. nice and easy to talk to but anything actually regarding work she won't help at all. reached out multiple times for help and never responded both online/email and in person.
Most people are over exaggerating the difficulty of the class. Just as long as you study at least 2 hours a week, you'll pass with an A. In the textbook there are 15 chapters which make up 3 units in class (5 chapters per unit). In each unit there are 5 three-hundred word writing assignments and 5 quizzes (answers can be found on quizlet/opennote).
