VERY unclear & unfair. Frequently unprepared. Fickle grader: asks for brief reports, but grades down for "minimal" reports from students. Unprofessional, talks about students work in front of class.

She's a really nice person, but not a great teacher. Lectures and labs always seemed very scattered. She knows the material, but can't really get it across in the best way.
Physics is a hard subject in general. I don't think that she is any worse than other physics teachers. I will give her credit for being a very wonderful person. She was always available to answer questions and really cares about the environment.
Not a good teacher. She is scattered, and not always available during her office hours. Quizes are sometimes very easy, sometimes very hard. Her exams were very difficult- much more hard questions than those assigned for homework or done in class.
Be Carful of this one ladies and gentlemen... Her class is easy if you already have a firm grasp of the concept of physics... Her practice exams are nothing like her tests, however I will say that she is helpful outside of class- too bad you are not graded on what goes on outside of the class room
Terrible teaching style. No lecture, just solves problems on the board. The book that she chose is completely juvinile and nothing it's problems are barely related to the ones on her tests. I'd have to strongly agree with everyone; she's probably the most scattered and unprepared teacher I know.
She is crazy! She is a great person but like everyone says she is all over the place.
Awesome teacher. Sings physics songs at conventions- so a cute nerd. Taught a lot on power point so you can't really be scattered or unorganized. Great class if you want to know why the sky is blue. I thought it was pretty easy and that the tests were very easy based on the homework (just study). Some people will never get physics.
Lectures are a bit scattered, but she's willing to help with homework problems during office hours. She's a really nice person, just not the best teacher.
One of the best teachers I have ever had, really up beat and makes class entertaining. Alsways their to help. Encouraging and loves Physics. I would recomend her to anyone!
Passionate. Exam questions are usually harder than homework. Make sure to spend time on homework, to get things right.
Super Fun and Smart Class!
She solves tons of problems and gives practice exams - the exams are much like them. hard but fair.
really clear about what she wants and what you have to do to get a good grade. physics is hard and she tries to make it easier. a little hot tempered but she likes physics.
I never liked physics before but she makes it fun and ilm leraning alot.
Lynda is a great teacher - she loves the subject, gives a lot of time to students and is VERY clear about what she expects. I think the bad rathings on this list are from bad students who got bad grades and are just angry and getting back at her. Take this class. you will learn alot.
She is a very interesting, high energy teacher, and is always there for me to help me understand when I go to meet with her. I never thought I would enjoy physics so much!
lynda is not your average teacher. she is really cool and fun and she puts all the powerpoints online BEFORE class which is super helpful. The lab isn't very hard and she helps alot. Take it to get your general science requirement! its better than astronomy (i've taken them both)
Good teacher. Thinks most problems are easy so likes to give hard problems. This is the norm for Math and Science teachers at SRJC. Wish she taught 4B as well.
tough class. no slacking off. read before class and STUDY!!! her exams are not easy at all. she gets impatient at times but for good reasons. great personality always makes the class laughs. office hours are great
Very clear and consice lectures given on power point which are all posted on her website. Always available to help out even beyone office hours.
good teacher. not earning a good grade cause 20% hw, and did not do extra credit, becasue of math 27. ended up loving physics though and look forward to taking 4a with her when i am done with math 1b. very cool and laid back. lecture on nuke extreamly biased though.
Overall a good teacher, the class material could be vauge at times, but it was a "conceptual" physics class. Class was straight forward, never took notes once and got an A while taking 15 other units. Some people get the material and some dont. Take the lab too, its easy and it may help you in this class.
Nice person. Cares about her students. I did feel lost at times due to vagueness of lectures. She has a tendency to get "sidetracked". Class was interesting though, and she wants her students to succeed. If you do your homework and attend class, she's fair in regards to her grading.
she proves how bad she wants everyone to pass. she teaches decent. her office hours are GREAT (she'll even tell you what will be on the test and wat to study for...so go!!). hw not hard...just show work even tho u know it's wrong. she's fair...more than fair. seriously...don't drop! she curves A LOT (more than any teachers in the school...trust me)
Lynda is great. I really love her style of teaching. She has high energy and a lot of excitment about what shes teaching. SHes definately not affraid to tell it like it is. She gets you motivated to learn.
Physics is a very hard class, but Lynda taught it well. She was always happy to clarify, very patient, and her office hours were a life saver. She's a good teacher with a very exuberent personality. She's very honest about what's on the tests and doesn't try to trick students.
Lynda is really nice but a little strange. However, I was not confident she knew the material very well. Also, the tests were much harder than they should have been (We had five midterms in the semester!). Another faculty member even commented that he would be unable to finish her tests in the allotted time. Avoid if possible.
I took 40, 41, 42 with Lynda over three semesters and really faced some challenges. She is a good, entertaining teacher but sometimes isn't completely clear. However, she is easy to approach and ALWAYS willing to help. I think once you're used to her style you can do well. Just read the book, do the HW, and study and you'll do fine.
This is the worst teacher I've ever had. She doesn't seem to have any interest in teaching well, and if it weren't for the one smart student in the class who corrects all of her mistakes,we'd all be lost. It was a mistake taking this class at SRJC. (Many people dropped after the first two classes since she seems like a lunatic.)
Lynda Williams is great teacher. I thoroughly enjoyed taking her class. Physics is a hard class but Ms. Williams is ALWAYS willing to help. She even goes the extra mile by offering free studying sessions with her and other students on the weekends! Don't be afraid to ask for help- study and take notes and you'll get an A. Good luck!
one of the better phys teachers at SRJC, but that's not saying much!
She is crazy. Her lectures aren't in any kind of order. She rambles about things we don't cover and expects us to use the textbook to find whats on the test. She didn't teach me anything, I had to teach it all to myself
to easy... DO NOT TAKE
Without a doubt the worst class i've ever had. i'm sorry but its the truth. Unclear lectures unresonable HW assignments. Terrible tests. The practice tests are usless. I got a 89 in my calc 1B and barely passed this class. And this was not my first time learning the materal.
Lynda is quirky and entertaining, as well as a good instructor. I never seem to have trouble paying attention, even though the material is boring. I never seem to have trouble understanding the material. She is extremely generous with her time, too.
She is not an easy teacher, but she is extremely helpful, any questions just ask, all HW, quizzes and tests are what you'd expect, no tricks. Do the work you'll do fine. She is crazy, in a good way, lots of fun and passion for the subject, I enjoy every class.
so cool! if you like physics at all, you'll LOVE lynda. Her tests are hard but all the problems on them are problems you've seen before and are capable of. She is SO good in her office hour if you need any extra help :)
Wow, the person who said they hated Lynda must have wanted some boring, stuffy old man, mumbling derivations right out of the text book from the first day. Lynda is fun, funny and connects the textbook's jargon with real life examples. She has a passion for the subject which is refreshing. "wants to be an MIT prof" ya, you ain't no MIT student.
Very nice lady. A little loony, but nice. A good teacher? Depends on your learning style. She expects you to read the textbook pre-lecture, whether it is clear or not.She never prepares her lectures and so they are completely out of logical order. She doesn't put much thought in what she assigns for homework and copies text problems onto her exams.
Some one crazy at times. She could not teach high-school. If you do your pre-reading and do your homework you will be fine. Lecture is more of a how to do problems. If you are nice to her at show her respect she will be nice to you. Go to her office hour!! If you come prepared with a list of questions she will more than answer them. Overall good.
She is a fun teacher and she wants you to succeed. Physics is a hard subject and I'm afraid Lynda takes a lot of flak because of the difficulty of the subject. She is smart and she wants you to have fun. Sometimes she says random stuff, but it's funny. How refreshing. If you love media or film editing, talk to her about it, it's one of her hobbies!
She is really disorganized, which didn't fit with my learning style. While she is entertaining at times, she can also be annoying. Physics is tough and I did well when I took the following class with a different professor, but she really didn't do it for me as a professor.
Awesome teacher with a bouncy personallity and a good sense of fun. Take her if you are looking for an informative class taught in a fun but formated manner.
Lynda's teaching style either works for you, or doesn't work at all. Her spazzy nature is entertaining, but can hinder the learning process. Once you adjust to her disorganized style, it gets minutely less frustrating, but I found it still fairly difficult. She's is a very fun person to know, but not someone you want teaching you physics.
This class is tough, physics is tough!! Not going to lie! But Lynda has a good grasp on the material, and is always availible to help during office hours and such. Lectures can be a bit scattered, but she makes it exciting and fun! Ace the tests and no final!!! Get all your 'easy' points (homework and lab) and there's no way you won't pass.
she isnt as bad as people say. u just never know what u will get with her. she will call u out in front of the class n try to punk u n then be super chill to u the next day. she is always cool in office hours but mostly mean in class. her tests arent too hard but u gotta work FAST. i wouldnt tell u not to take her. im glad i dont have to again tho.
She talks about not wanting to teach, and she's telling the truth. This woman has a love/hate relationship with her students. She yells and carries on. I don't think she should be in a classroom. Also, she gets defensive with questions like they are a tax on her. Every class it's a question what mood she's in, and who's in the cross-hairs.
its pointless to come on here and say dont take lynda cuz usually she is the only choice u have. if u can avoid her then do so. but since that probably isnt an option just be prepared. on any given day u dont know what lynda ull get. sometimes shes nice, funny, cool even. but mostly mean, condescending n unhelpful. worst teacher in engr department.
She's fun but a bit crazy at times. She can throw a fit if the class isn't in check but that almost never happens. Labs aren't terrible and the tests are fair, she even give you a chance to argue points and usually gives a lot back.
This was a difficult class to get through because no one wanted to be there, even Lynda. This class was scattered and all over the place. There were some tense times during the semester between Lynda and the class but she created straightforward tests, except for a few strange problems. Hopefully next year it will be straightened out.
Lynda improved a lot for this class. You can tell that she took the time to prepare for lecture (usually...). I find physics very challenging, but did well in her classes. (had her for 40,41,43). She really wants her students to do well, exams are very fair and straightforward. Definitely not as bad as everyone says.
Lynda, is an extremely helpful teacher! Even beyond class Lynda is willing to give it her all at the students benefit. She knows her stuff! Her classes are difficult, but that's physics, get over it. Ask questions a lot, and Lynda will help clarify. She adds a sense excitement to the class, which his hard to find in physics. She is great teacher!
Lynda is an extremely helpful and caring teacher! She is very reasonable and she understands how hard it is to be a student. She is very approachable and is always willing to help her students in any way she can. Her tests are very straight forward, and if you do the work, and read the book, you'll get an A. Very fun, and entertaining teacher!
She will assign a lot of hw so be prepared to put in time for her classes. You will hear a lot of negatives about her but the truth is that she is fair and is willing to bend over backwards to help you if you WANT help. Gives practices tests, and extra credit. You will work in her classes but its not unbearable.
Lynda is one of those great office hours teacher. She really loves to help students understand physics. However, she nor any other teacher can spoon feed you everything in physics. I had to put in a lot of time teaching myself and using her as a reference. Most people I knew who complained never used her office hours so I don't feel sorry for them.
I have never had to work so hard to learn so little. Lynda misses class regularly and never tells the class until 5 mins prior. She skips large amounts of material and makes up for it by assigning way more hw than can be managed. She never gets papers back and often loses tests and HW. She lost an entire box of our midterms last semester.
As long as you realize it's a course you're going to have to work hard in, you'll be alright. If you don't bother reading the book or studying, no lecturer could help you out with this material.
Lynda is awesome. No sugarcoating it; expect to put in work and not complain about it, or else don't waste your time, and drop out now. You can have fun flipping burgers for a living, or you can take her class and stick with it, and you will work hard and learn a lot! GET TO KNOW HER IN OFFICE HOURS. Get on her good side from day 1.
She is not that bad. People will go on about how unhelpful she is and how difficult she makes everything but know this: these people do not want to work for their grade. Read the book, pay attention and talk to her in office hours and anyone can understand the material. You will only get as m you give.
She holds you to a high standard but if you work hard, read, do the hw (assigned or not), then you can pass this class. It is the one of the hardest classes I have ever taken but she is fair!
Lynda has extremely high expectations for her students and is not very helpful. Even reading the book and attending lecture and lab regularly did not help, as your grade is dependent on her mood at that moment and how much she likes you as a student. Also, her formal labs are ridiculous. Never have I had a lab report be so overrated and redundant.
Lynda is the best teacher. She teaches you more than physics, she teaches you how to be an independent student. She provides all the tools needed to pass her class. If you didn't get enough help from her, then you didn't make yourself available, she's always in her office with the door open. Study in the physics library if you're not gettingit
She spends a lot of time talking about the class website, the semester, gossip etc., then rushes through doing problems and one or two students keep up. It seems that she just really doesn't enjoy teaching. She doesn't get that joy out of seeing students learn like many good teachers do. I wish she came to class with an organized plan too.
Everywhere I go, students think their physics teachers suck. It's a hard subject to teach because nobody learns the same. Lynda is a good teacher. Lynda is really good with office hours and she sets clear expectations of what you are going to be tested on. But you have to put in the time to understand the concepts.
Great teacher. She is helpful and not too hard.
I took both Physics 40 and 41 with Lynda and although it was a lot of work at times, I thoroughly enjoyed both of her classes. She is an awesome upbeat professor once you get to know her, and in all honesty probably one of the realest professors I have had. If you work hard you will get the grade you want, plain and simple. Definitely recommended.
Hostile towards questions. Disorganized lectures: rushes through everything and insists the students teach themselves everything. Labs: instructions are often unclear; TAs give conflicting information; Lynda is out of the lab and in her office most of the time.
Lynda is not a good instructor. She is unbelievably disorganized. Her lectures are rushed, and many times not even finished. She doesn't seem to like teaching. She is short tempered, and makes students feel unwelcome. On multiple occasions have I heard her directly tell students that her emotional state affects your grade. Avoid if possible.
Disorganized, moody, and jaded with teaching. Some students like her kick-in-the-pants teaching style but her unpredictability and unprofessionalism were really frustrating. Lets emotions get the best her when grading. Wastes a lot of class time promoting events and rushes through the lecture. Cancels class a lot and sends videos to watch. Avoid.
For me, her teaching style wasn't the best, but she understands she's not for everyone and if you go in and talk to her she will do what she can to help you succeed. Dont be late or leave early, she has no problem calling you out lol. Plus, she's hella funny, if you fall asleep in her class you have no sense of humor. Just sayin :) she's awesome
Most people have negative comments about Lynda's class, but that's largely to blame for their personal flaws. They're are not used to not working hard, thus they blame the instructor when in reality they should be reassessing themselves. This class is a lot of work, but it is definitely worth it in the long run. You learn so much! Lynda is awesome!
She assigns a lot of homework every week but you get to learn so much. She's very helpful and clear. I heard bad things about her before but for me she is one of the best teachers I have ever had! I used to hate physics and now I really love it :) Take her and you'll learn a lot. PS. Lynda is soooo amazing and funny. Ignore bad comments about her!
Lynda is one of a kind. Her lectures are very funny and interesting. At first she is very intimidating, but later you'll see that she is kind and an excellent professor. Watch out! Her first test is hard. Her second and third are moderatedsemi-hard. Overall, she will surprise you with how much you can learn out from Physics.
Lynda brings enthusiasm and passion to the subjects she teaches. She is eccentric and not everyone gets a long with her but the students that give her a bad rap are minimalists that want to take the easy way out. She isn't easy. She is extremely helpful and as a physics major, I still use her practice tests and equation sheets to this day. GO LYNDA
Lynda Is amazing and hilarious. All time favorite teacher. She can seem overwhelming at first, but the way she teaches only benefits you. It is not easy, but it shouldn't be physics can be tough! If you have questions she will be there to answer them and make sure you understand every aspect of each question and more. Prepares you so well! love her
She is a great, interesting person and if you read the book ahead, you will do just fine. She gives you a ton of examples in class and while the homework is long, by the end of it you will be a physics master.
I was dreading taking a notoriously tough physics class during the 6 week summer semester, but Lynda made it a joy. Pay attention, do the work, don't be rude, and you'll succeed. She wants you to succeed.
She tells it like it is. She gives great perspectives on everything, as well as effective tricks for problem solving. She's led an interesting life. She is passionate about life and inspiring! She wants everyone to succeed in her class. Go to office hours she has a wealth of knowledge and is willing to share. Wish i could take again.
Difficult class that requires a lot of work. Formal labs require a lot of work, but writing abstracts and a neat report greatly helps in future classes. The other awesome thing she does is allows test corrections for extra credit. This was easily one of the most helpful things for me in that I would relearn the things I did not understand as well.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Her passion for physics and science in general is so inspiring and contagious. Though physics has been difficult for me, I'm always entranced by her lectures and leave feeling amazed. She seriously cares about her students and really wants them to do well. She's funny and enthusiastic and really smart.
Lynda is so cool! Love her teaching style: Clear criteria on what will be on exams/lab reports, lots of fun extra credit, enthusiastic and candid lectures, quizzes to motivate reading ahead. Open-minded and speaks out about sexism, bigotry, racism in STEM. Truly cares. Physics is HARD, but she breaks it down into easy steps. Read ahead & have fun!
How shall I put it? She's zany. Moody and disorganized. Maybe tries a little too hard to be "cool." She wants to be helpful and is fine when you talk to her one on one. Too much time spent on politics (and I am a woman in STEM), could be better used giving clear lectures. There are better options.
Lynda Williams is one of the worst teachers I have ever had, while in her class I felt very harassed and I was disgusted by her attitude towards me and my fellow classmates. She is late to class on a regular basis, and quite often watches youtube in class. Also, lecture is better when she cancels class.
I'm not really sure what the bad reviews are about. Sounds like people want their hands held throughout the entire semester. She's fine, and even if she wasn't, just read the book and you'll be fine. Tests were just reworded homework problems, and she gives very generous make-up points on exams.
Very scattered and unorganized. But very nice and understanding, just a bit crazy. She wants you to succeed, but will tell you the harsh truth if necessary.
Lynda is an interesting teacher. She is somewhat sporadic, and goes from being very nice to being very mean.
Despite coming off harsh, Williams gives lots of extra credit, redos, and help on tests. She's straightforward and will work with you to get you your A if you show her you can understand the material and do a quality job. She lets you barter for extra credit or even grade bumps. Harshly grades homework and tests but she tells you all you need to do
Terrible teacher. She often shows up unprepared, and her lectures consist of her reading from power point slides. Shows a poor grasp of the class material, and gets offended if a student asks questions. Be prepared to learn nothing from lecture, and she will get offended if you skip class. But if you do the hw and read the text, it's an easy A
She's very into what she teaches, and If you reach out and show interest she's very helpful.
She is pretty straight-forward and understanding to what she wants from her students. She is super knowledgable, knows what she's doing and just makes the class a pleasant experience. Fair grader. She provides everything you will need for the semester. She is always helping her students.
Unsure if it was the material or the teaching, I got the least out of this class per amount of work than any other (and I took 40, 42). Lectures/PowerPoints were disorganized/unclear (waste of time, cannot be skipped). What I would consider unfair grading. Too concerned with unimportant details. There were good aspects--covered in other reviews.
Kind of disorganized. A fantastic person, but a okay-good teacher.
I took Physics 21L with her,she is one of the best professor at the college, she is helping her student more than her job,for me as an international student I learned alot from her ,and her class is not stressful, she is always happy and I has so fun in her class her pre lab was helpful even for my physics lecture, she is the best
Lynda's classes take a very steady structure. You study the textbook to get a grasp on the topics, do some homework, then get her lecture and ask questions, then start again with the next topic. Her tests are fair and based on homework, and she offers amazing extra credit that makes solid grades attainable. Do all homework precisely as instructed.
Lynda is super sweet and wants all her students to do well. She formats her class in a clear way. All the material that appears on tests come from previous quizzes and problems done in class. She has a big personality which I think is why she has received some negative reviews, however, I have always found her approachable and I enjoyed lecture.
lynda as a person great, i want her to be my best friend lynda as my teacher sometimes great and sometimes not great lynda clearly loves physics. she is passionate and literally does everything she can to help to you understand if you have troubles. the problem is she always changes her mind about what is going to be required of you.
Lynda is really helpful when you have questions. We had 3 tests and a final project. The homework was to write notes and do review questions and problems in a composition book using the textbook. Im not kidding it takes HOURS every week. But we could use it on the tests so its worth it. She also gives a lot of extra credit and is an easy grader.
There is never a dull moment in Lyndas class. She knows the subject and does a great job of presenting material to first timers. If you need any clarification see her in office hours and shell make sure youre crystal clear on it. Her lectures are enjoyable because she is a performer at heart and captivated you with her hilarious sense of humor.
Lynda truly cares about her students educational success. She manages to fit a dense 32 chapters into two courses for the general physics series. Shes very passionate about the subject matter and offers inspiring lectures. She teaches in ways that makes the course material seem fascinating and easy to grasp even without the calculus background.
Lynda is an awesome teacher, she is obviously passionate about Physics and her enthusiasm keeps me engaged in class, I actually wish classes were longer. She's a fair grader and clearly wants us to learn and understand the material, and her office hours are very helpful! She knows its a hard class (Physics, duh) and will help you get through it.
Lynda is a great teacher! I have to say, physics can be boring and dense, but Lynda makes it fun and accessible for students. She can be a little fast and unorganized, but she makes up for it by giving us TONS of extra credit and office hours. She has really made physics fun for me and I would recommend her! Just don't get scared of her personality
Lynda is a great teacher for physics 11. She is funny, does cool labs, and allows notes during tests. Highly recommend taking this course if you are new to physics.
Has quizzes every lecture to force you to go, blows wistle in class like you're in grade school. If you turn something in and it's not a carbon copy of the rubric you WILL lose points. Go to her TAs office hours to make sure your stuff is perfect. Makes you join Facebook group for extra credit.
Lynda has been really helpful and understanding throughout the semester, if you pay attention to her lecture in class, then you will pass this class. Initially, I though it would be really boring physics course, but I laughed a lot during her lecture, she makes it fun. Don't hesitate to ask any question, she always tried her best to help you:)
Great professor! She expects a lot from you but shes also really understanding. She is your best resource when it comes to doing the weekly take home quizzes. Shes great one on one and will always make herself available for her students. Shes one of the best professors Ive taken!
Lynda is a very specific type of person. It has to be done her way, or it won't be right. She gives a TON of help and loves questions, so don't be afraid to ask. It's a hard class no matter who is teaching it. She has a strong personality, so do not take what she says to heart and you'll survive. You learn from the book and use her for help.
Graded by a weekly take home quizzes, weekly reading quizzes, weekly labs, 1 formal lab and 3 midterms. Class is a lot of work. She grades fairly. Dont get behind because this class moves quick. She is caring, wants to see you succeed and helps in office hours. Actually read the book before coming to class. Take good notes. Dont procrastinate!
Her lectures are messy and disorganized, so I never learned anything from them. You really HAVE to read the book before. This is difficult b/c there is a take home quiz EVERY WEEK, so there's barely any time to read or do the actual HW. Extremely disorganized, and it's hard to get into the rhythm. But, Lynda works hard and is encouraging sometimes.
Honestly a lot of people will say that they don't like her and while at times it can seem like she mean that's only because she wants us to do great. Goes above and beyond to make sure that you will pass the class and given the amount of resources she gives you its a real shame if you cant take advantage of them. Super funny and 10/10.
I wish there were other professors who taught Phys 40. Lynda is funny and accessible, but so disorganized that it's hard to follow her lectures. She gives out so many tests that there's never enough time to do hw. If you don't have a strong grasp on calculus, you'll struggle. She gives many opportunities to fix your grade and gives extra credit.
She low key terrifies me, that is all.
Easy to get an A if you follow HER method COMPLETELY. Her lecture is how she solves questions rather than physics itself. Her assignments include nonsense detailed instructions, but follow them anyway for grades. Make sure you have power bank or cars to charge your phone to attend online class under power outage. She said "THIS IS THE NEW NORMAL."
She's the best. This class moves really fast and there is a ton of work to submit, but it helps boost your grade if you do it. I've never have had a prof orchestrate so many opportunities for students to receive extra help, and tons of Office hours. Super clear about what she grades on, and I feel like I learned a lot, plus class was never boring!!
Really enthusiastic in the material and is an overall great and funny person. However, she is VERY disorganized. She makes it clear that the optional book problems are the key to pass the tests which I agree but I will advise you that her take home quizzes take up a lot of time having hardly any time to do them. SCHEDULE carefully! Do it HER way to
So weird to me that so many people say lynda is disorganized, this is the most organized class ive taken. it follows the same exact schedule every week, and lynda is always communicating/updating about everything. Maybe because lecture is nontraditional and is more just chilling and working on problems? its a really nice change of pace.
So disorganized. Unnecessarily difficult. 3 exams plus final exam plus 3 practice exams and a practice final exam. Take home quiz every week is like homework. Super opinionated. Doesn't plan well. Doesn't release class/home work until week of so no way to work ahead. Wonders why students don't speak up more then berates when they do. Do it her way.
Lynda genuinely cares about her students success and spends a lot of time preparing practice exams so you get used to taking her tests. She gives lots of extra credit opportunities so take advantage of them, they make a difference. Physics is hard, expect to put in a lot of time if you want to understand the material. This was an excellent course.
If you are willing to put in time and effort you will be able to succeed in Lynda's class. She works so hard to make the class fun and really wants everyone to do well and love physics. Test questions are exactly like homework questions but easier, so if you study the quizzes and hw you will do great! lots of assignments but also tons of extra cred
Lynda is a great teacher and spends a lot of time making sure you are successful in the class. She does have a lot of assignments, but they are straightforward. Lynda also offers a lot of extra credit so as long if you put in the work, you will pass the class! She does have long office hours and you can attend workshops with a TA to get help.
Lynda can be a little peppery, but she cares about her students. Both that we learn and that we succeed.
Lynda is the best teacher to take for physics. Physics 40 is hard regardless of who take it with, I feel like a lot of people on here are expressing their frustration over course content rather than the professor. It's A LOT of complex material. HOWEVER, Lynda's the best professor I've had. She's helpful in office hours and cares for her students.
Physics is hard, so be willing to put the time in. If you do, you'll do well. Lynda has tough homework, but it basically covers everything you need to know for the tests. She's a great lecturer as she clearly understands the material and describes it well, all while having a good sense of humor. Multiple moderate extra credit opportunities
There are lots of assignments. Many of them are done in class or discussion. She communicates well about when things are due and what is going on in the class. You need to show up to class because things do change somewhat regularly.
Lynda made it so that I was able to understand what used to be one of my worst subjects. Mechanics is a hard class, but if you engage in lectures, visit office hours, and make a true effort to understand the material, you will be rewarded. Lynda will do all she can to help you out. Has a very casual personality and you can tell she loves physics.
I got an A in Lyndas class but I literally think she is the worst teacher I have ever had. She is extremely mean, immature, and disrespectful to the point that I genuinely hate physics now. And Im sure she would think good riddance instead of being accountable for her job as a teacher. The class is hard but dealing with her is harder.
Lynda was the worst professor I have ever had. I love to learn and she made me absolutely dread trying and doing the homework. She's immature, condescending, and rude to students. She complained about our class constantly. Absolutely the worst experience I've ever had.
Had her when she taught the PHYS40 equivalent at UCSC. Physics is the hardest class I've ever taken. I got a 71% on the 1st midterm, 95% on the 2nd midterm, and C/B on the final, I honestly forget. The only thing that got me through this class was redoing the in-class worksheets over and over again, seriously. Prefer her over Dhar, but still v hard
This professor is awful. I actually love physics and enjoy learning the concepts and trying to think about real world applications of them. Unfortunately, this professor sucks all of the joy out of the subject by being absurdly nit picky, rude, and condescending.
One of the hardest I had, not because of the physics, but because of her attitude. She is condescending, always complaining, and rude. She introduces too much politics and social commentary in her lectures. Unless this is your only course you will struggle to do all the exercises and homework. If you can avoid this teacher, do it. If not, good luck
Lynda is scary at times, I appreciate her love for physics but it can be difficult to work with her at times. Just stay on task, follow the lectures and lab instructions, ask questions, and don't get on her bad side. The content is hard enough, but she'll do her best to teach you, but not if she's angry.
Words alone can not describe how awful Lyndas attitude is towards students. You have to see it to believe it. She yells at her students if they have questions and then proceeds to humiliate them. Fortunately this is her last semester of teaching. Her teaching methods are okay. She tries her best at being organized but never commits to office hours
Words cannot describe how awful of a professor Lynda is. Skips half (not an exaggeration) of lectures, swears at students, complains constantly, and grades crazy hard. So rude towards inquisitive students and has the audacity to demand respect. If you value your education, grades, and mental wellbeing, DO NOT TAKE HER CLASSES.
She DOES NOT want her students to succeed. She is a VERY tough grader. Lynda does not tolerate ANY mistakes. I don’t understand why she chose to become a college professor when she clearly does NOT like people in general. She is a very difficult person. It is not easy to ask questions in lectures.
Lynda is passionate about physics. She cares deeply about her students, and goes above and beyond to help them in any way possible. She gives blunt criticism, but this helps you to understand which parts of the material you need to focus more on. Her feedback on homework and exams is incredibly helpful and to the point. She loves to teach.
Lynda is a very passionate professor who tries to convey some of the more nuanced nature of both the career path and the physics. She's immensely supportive and can offer a lot of strong advice for the field. Taking heed of her experience and perspective was a crucial element of my time in undergrad.
Do not believe what the recent nice reviews claim. If you go to her office hours, you will be disappointed. Lynda is NOT approachable. She intimidates her students. Many students who have had her in the past do not have very nice things to say about Lynda. Be careful and try not to get on her bad side or your grade will suffer.
I will stick to just this - every single one of here 1-Awful reviews is truthful. The one experience I will highlight was during a lab right after failing almost everyone on a test, she threatened to call campus police on anyone who tried to ask her a question about her grading decisions. This "educator" is the reason I changed majors from compSci
Took Lynda's class last year and I find her a very inspirational teacher. She sparked my interest in Physics even though I have not taken any high school physics or PHYS1 or PHYS20. This is my first exposure to physics and she explained the concepts in such a way that is understandable to even me, a high school student taking dual enrollment.
I took this class out of interest before I transferred because of the subject matter. Lynda is incredibly passionate about physics and was always deeply engaged in teaching us about special relativity and quantum physics. The material is inherently very difficult to grasp but I felt she was very fair about what material was tested. Was super fun!
After taking her class, I was inspired by her enthusiasm and passion. She took the material and made it relative! She inspired me to be the middle school science teacher I am today. I think about her often and how she was able to look at the individual and work towards their strengths.
Lynda is a very caring, and passionate professor. She tries to relate to her students and conveys the material in an exciting manner. Physics can be challenging, but she gives lots of worksheets to prepare you for the exams. She is helpful during office hours and gives good advice. Be respectful, and don't feel intimidated by her.
This professor really cares. She loves the material, tried to make it fun, and wants people to understand. She made extra time in office hours, and stayed in contact about the assignments and any questions I had.
She is a tough teacher but in a good way. I took her for 2 semesters and I was not used to being challenged. Her tests while mind bending at times are never something she hasn't covered in lecture. Lynda breaks physics into fundamentals I was grateful when I transferred to a 4 year college. Ps I recommended my daughter take her class after me.
Funny and great at explaining concepts, welcoming and willing to work with you!
I became a physicist because of the lectures and the passion that Lynda shared with students. She is passionate about physics, about teaching and for those students that are passionate too, she will go the extra mile for you. I highly recommend her, as a professor, as a mentor and a role model.
One of my all time favorite professors! Kept each and every lecture engaging and interesting and did an astounding job bringing relevant context to the class material so that each topic felt meaningful to learn. Also was super approachable outside of class which really went a long way in helping me to ask more questions and to learn more.
Lynda care for her students. Her way to teaching us amazing. Her classes are fun and tons of opportunity to get an A in the class.
Engaging lectures. Demonstrations during lectures. Really knows the subject well and can break it down to be easily understood.
Lynda is great! She is clearly passionate about teaching physics. One of my favorite teachers at SRJC. I also had her for Physics 40 and she was great in that course as well. She helped me begin my career in physics and she has been a great mentor. I wish there were more teachers like her.
Lynda Williams is one of the most fantastic teachers I have ever had! She inspired me to pursue a future in engineering; I would not be where I am today without her. She is a tough teacher, but she provides many opportunities for extra credit and to get points back so you can learn from your mistakes while gaining an understanding of the material.
I took Lynda for PHYS41 and requested to TA for her after the class. She has wonderful energy and cares for students, especially students who are underrepresented in STEM. Lynda's mentorship will always be a highlight of my academic journey. She inspired me to continue taking physics courses which ultimately led to me changing my major to physics.
As a bio major, I wasn't necessarily looking forward to taking physics classes, but Professor Williams made physics more interesting and relevant for me. Some physics topics were easy for me to learn, and others I struggled with, but overall I feel like Lynda did her best to help us understand the subject matter.
Wonderful instructor!
Lynda clearly cares a lot about her students and have a lot of knowledge to share.
I come back here now and then to read Lynda's RMPs because I find them hilarious and exactly match my experience, but this time I noticed a huge influx of 5s, most of which on the same day. Definitely fake; according to one of the recent reviews, she's asking students to give her good scores on here. If you want the truth, read the 1s.
Lynda cares that you understand the topics. Very open to questions, worked around my medical absences, and extremely responsive to help requests in or out of class. Recommended my son take her for physics when he attended SRJC a few years after me (I went my 40s). My son also enjoyed her classes. She was amazing during COVID classes!
Lynda cares about student understanding. She's open to questions, flexible with absences, and very responsive. I'd recommend her class - Unstuckstudy and the textbook were great study tools. Her enthusiasm made the material engaging.
