Very cool teacher.
Awesome Teacher!!!! Very Nice, and Awesome!
She's a really nice person, and a great teacher...:)

BEST ENG PROFESSOR EVER!!! taking her for the 4-week summer class... she is an awsome prof and her style/organization is great.
She was a very fair teacher. Ive had english classes before that were very boring and she did a good job of making the class interesting.
She is a very good teacher. Just dont fall behind on the readings. Towards the middle of the semester you dont do much reading anymore. She expects her papers to be MLA format but is an easy grader even if you do a half ass job you will probably get a C or B-.
Grades very fairly and her assignments are not that hard. It always helps to present your ideas to her before hand and have her guide you if you are confused. If you can, try to have a rough draft that she can see before due dates so she can give you valuable input.
Best English teacher ever!
Pretty easy going-- just do the work and you'll get an easy B.
She's great! Very interesting subject, and she's extremely helpful!
Mrs. Beers was really down to earth and treated us like adults. She had a good sense of humor and taught this college english class in a stereotypical manar
I have taken Professor Beers for 4 classes and she continues to amaze me! She is passionate about what she is teaching and opens up the class to a lot of intense discussions. She is an extremely fair (not easy-- fair!) grader. She assigns a lot of reading, but it is do-able. Professor Beers quickly grades assignments and is always offering extra time on the side. She is easy to talk to and explains things with ease. She is an absolutely AMAZING teacher!
This is my first semester with beers and my first college English professor, and she seems to be very smart and responsive to your needs. One complaint: she doesn't stop kids from talking so sometimes kids are just talking while she's lecturing and you can't hear her.
Very sweet women with a heart of good. At first, I wanted to drop the class. Now, I'm very happy I didn't. Everything is very clear and organized. Not a hard grader. Me and some of my other class mates all agree that this class is our favorite. She is very understanding and east going.
Very sweet. helpful and friendly. good teacher. very involved tests and killer amount of reading.
My favorite classes. She is such a sweetheart and really cares about her students. She is a really fair grader. Best part: she really gets a writer's tone and style. You'll definately feel like an individual. Make sure your entire class does the reading or she might throw you guys a pop quiz. THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX. She loves class discussions.
Nice woman, but didn't really teach anything. Just made class discussions about not much. Nice teacher, smart, but didn't learn anything. No grammer, sentence structure etc.
Did not teach any grammar concepts. Did not cover any writing styles except a brief stint on narrative writing in which all she did was pass out hand outs on the subject.
nice teacher. Doesn't give out many A's maybe 1-3. her grading style is weird cuz I got a "B" on everything, even when i did not try on the assignment. Her comments would be "excellent support throughout" or "support overall is EXCELLENT, but argument on (....) could have been stronger". Pretty hard to get an A but passing the class is achievable.
Best english teacher at SCC. Your writting skills as well as knowledge of current events will increase tenfold. Shes caring, compassionate, and truely cares about her students. Just follow her directions or you're f***ed.
Great teacher. She is so sweet and caring. She is passionate about what she does.
best english teacher at SCC!
Ms. Beers was a delight in the classroom; she treats students with dignity and respect, which creates a relaxed stress-free atmosphere, and this in turn fosters a great learning environment. I would take here classes again and recommend her to anyone.
Miss Beers is an amazing teacher. She is very laid back but also helps you understand the material. I never had an interest in english but she made it fun. My class liked to talk alot and goof off and she just laughed along ...but we still got everything done that we needed too. Best teacher at SCC!!!!!!!!
I LOVE PROFESSOR BEERS! EVERYONE DOES! I definitely enjoy showing up to her class. She's very open-minded and a fair grader as well.
professor Beers is so cool, I love how she teaches in class. As long as you do your work you'll pass the class
She is an awsome teacher. I have taken Beers for six semesters. I took her for 102,103,231,232,211,212. She has a great sense of humor. She definately knows what she is talking about. She needs to teach more English Classes. She is not the easiest but if you do the work you will get at least a B.I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER! TAKE HER BRIT LIT CLASSES
She is a very interesting woman. Be prepared to have half of your test questions on all tests in medieval lit be on feminism/women when they are almost non-existent in this spectrum. I love lit and she is a good teacher. I'm taking her again though. Make sure you read the history sections if you take her for lit.
She's a very nice woman, and has an interesting perspective on life. I enjoyed taking her classes.. ya just read the material and do the work she assigns and your golden!
I thoroughly enjoyed her style of teaching. She loves what she does and it is very obvious. She is very knowledgeable and very open-minded. Eng 103 makes you work! A lot of time was required for me to do well. Lynette understands that and her timidity seems to "soften the blow" of say, a big paper, for example (which there are a few).
awesome teacher, really nice and excellent instructor
She is a very nice teacher. Cares very much for her student. I really enjoy her class. Very sweet teacher. She does off topic sometimes, but I think that all teachers do. BUY THE TEXTBOOK ASAP. She gives out of quizzes that are from the book. And make sure you double check the hw. Only bad thing about her - plays favorite. Got B- in class.
Busy work every singl day! Essay after essay! You turn one in and it's relief, but the day you turn it in there's an in class essay and she assigns another! Learned nothing, doesn't help with writing. You will be beyond annoyed with having to menion logos and pathos in everything you say/write.
Prof Beers is an amazing professor. She covers so much in such a short period of time. The amount of work is tough but if you keep on top of it, the class is a breeze. She is very knowledgeable and passionate about her subject. She is one of the nicest professors I've had. Don't be afraid to ask for help!
Very nice teacher! If you follow her directions for papers you will get an A for sure. She is a sensible grader, she understands each person has a different style of writing and she won't hold that against you. Do your work and it's an easy A!
Very good teacher. Lots of papers, but as long as you follow directions for the essays you will get an A. She doesn't give a lot of busy work and there are almost no tests. I am planning on taking her again :].
Do not take over the summer!!! She is a fair grader, and she is always available to help. She is also pretty laid back. It is a LOT of work to do in 8 weeks-I HIGHLY recommend taking her during the regular semester!! If you do all of your work it should be an easy B. She does not give too many A's.
She's great! The quizzes are super easy if you just read the short stories in the textbook. The novel you have to read is SO fun and interesting! There are a lot of papers, but she's very helpful. Just follow directions, and you can get an A. She drops lowest in-class essay. You can re-write one paper. She's so fun, too!
I took her for E101 in the summer. I got an A. Read the page-length stories and you'll ace the simple quizzes (essay type quiz). Drops lowest in-class essay. You can re-write one paper. She's open-minded, liberal, just amazing! She's also funny. She's super clear. It's a great class!
Interesting, fun, makes you think. You have to work for your A, but it's not impossible. Homework's not bad. Takes about an hour or less. Re-write one paper. Drops lowest in-class essay or you can just skip one. VERY interesting textbook. Not too many papers. Approachable. Open minded. Awesome chick. TOTALLY RECOMMEND HER!
Take her class, you will love English so much more when you come out. I took her 101 and 103. Both really interesting classes. There is a decent amount of papers for 103, but you will learn a lot. Awesome.
Professor Beers is great. She teaches an enjoyable class and likes interaction (it makes the time go by quicker). The work is alot but it is a 4 unit class, so that's what it should be. I would recommend her and I would take a class from her again.
This is not an easy class. You pretty much have to show up everyday and showing up late is frowned upon. Make sure to do all the assignments or you could end up in a very bad spot. Otherwise, she is pretty nice, but a bad teacher at all, just do your work!
I am currently in her 101 class and she is a great teacher. very accepting of others. easy to talk to. fun. but i hate the work! i feel great when i finish an essay but then we get another one right after!
This class in def interesting, deals with current issues and our class is almost always a debate. But its not easy. One paper right after the other and weekly homework. She will pick your paper apart!!! Very helpful teacher, emails back quickly. But if you dont like to write, dont take the class!
She is an amazing teacher!!! I love her class
The class had a lot of work. Writing papers especially. She is a very enjoyable teacher and very helpful. She allows you to rewrite one paper. She is very liberal in her teaching and has an agenda. Critical thinking should show both sides and she shows her side. It would be good for her (and her class)to have opposing views from others.
Wonderful professor. I highly recommend her class. She is passionate and knowledgeable. The reading for the class is interesting, and the writing challenging. Professor Beeers-McCormick is very approachable and non-judgmental. She'll help you become a better writer.
I do not like her. She always made fun of Bipolar people in class. She needs to keep her thoughts to herself. I am Bipolar myself and this really offended that she would make fun of people with Bipolar disorder. She made me feel like I wasn't good enough. Every paper I wrote she would find a reason to give me a bad grade when I tried my best.
She is such a wonderful person. This class was filled with such unique people and we had such a blast every Tuesday night. She brought treats now and then, we sat in a circle and discussed the works together. Tests are essay style, there are 2 papers, and 2 presentations. Don't be freaked out by this! Highly, highly recommend her for English majors
Keep up with the readings and extra work and should be easy to get A or B
The class was pretty easy.Do the reader responses,&those are easy full credit works. She is a bit of a tough grader on essays. Her tests are essay style,&they could be hard if you don't study, but she pretty much tells you what you should study so you're not going out studying blind. She is a little awkward, but in a cute& charming way,&she's VERY nice
Well if you want a teacher who will disappoint you take her. All I want to do is finish school and get grades so I can transfer. I am not good at writing and this class didn't help me. She did nothing to help me and she decided to fail me instead of helping me to pass. I do not need a teacher who is discouraging and unhelpful.
For an A, you need to do at least 60% of the reading (wing the rest) and read her handouts 3x before the test. For the tests, just regurgitate the handouts/what she says in class. She's a really sweet/charming professor, one of the kindest at SCC. Don't disappoint her. I recommend her english 232 class, it was one of my favorites at SCC.
Best English Professor at Santiago(/ever)... Class was a highlight of my week. Exams were challanging and the standards to which she grades papers are high, but she greatly rewards students who work hard. Made some great friends in this class because it was so interactive. BMcC is brilliant.
She is one of my favorite teachers! There's alot of reading hw but they are short/easy to read. She tells you exactly what she expects in assignments/essays so if you follow her guidelines and do work you can get an A. I think she is a pretty fair grader and very nice/helpful. She'll clearly answer all ur questions too
She was so nice and helpful. I wasn't big on writing essays or English in general, but she really helped me improve my writing and I ended up really enjoying the class.
I recieved a B in the class but it was very difficult. She does not grade accurately! She's nice in class but her grading says otherwise becuase even if you try hard and get the paper corrected. She still finds ERRORS! Errors that are not NECESSARY an ex. if I wrote many she would write numerous sounds better!

If you want an A be ready to work really hard, lots of work and a tough grader. Other then that she is a nice teacher and has interesting topics. Unless you are really good at English, I wouldn't recommend her to anyone looking for an easy A.
not an easy class but if you show up, keep up, pay attention to class discussions and are very active, it will pay off. i guess that's true in every class but, even so, it's necessary for the course. she's a wonderful teacher. she made me love tuesday nights!!
She is a lovely teacher and I was lucky because my classmates were great. We had a lot of great discussions about public policy, politics, etc. She gives a lot of work, presentations, essays, questions and research paper. Do rough drafts early for essays and research papers, she will help you get a good mark. She is really a cool teacher.
Great class with a great professor. Class is mostly discussion-based, so reading and participation are necessary. Exams are essay questions, but it is an English class, so there you go. Professor Beers-McCormick responds to any questions about assignments and is genuinely interested in the subject matter, so there's no bland lecturing.
There is an incredible amount of work in this class, but it's all very interesting. There are 7 papers, three presentations, and weekly homework questions based on the readings. She's extremely organized and fair, just be sure to carefully read the syllabus.
I took Prof McCormick for both 101 and 103 (by choice!!) and absoultely loved her. She is tough but fair. Her approach really helped me to push myself and better my writing style. If your looking to just fly beneath the radar, rarely show up for class, or participate in discussions, THIS IS NOT THE CLASS FOR YOU. Be prepared to get involved :)
Awesome teacher! Interesting, fun, and hot!
I had her for English 101 and English 103 and she is by the far the best professor I had at Santiago! Very helpful and loves getting the class to think and discuss about interesting topics. I would take more classes with her if she taught any others!
You have to take Eng 101; you might as well enjoy it. She's funny and involved. Taking her class will keep you interested all semester. You start doing work the 1st week and you never stop. The syllabus is extremelyyy useful and i suggest getting ahead in the beginning of the semest. There's sooo much due in the last month--it's scary!
I love her! She's so sweet! You will laugh in this class! If you do the work and don't be lazy you'll be FINE! Several essays with one free late paper and one rewrite. She reads the novel "The Things They Carried". Quizzes on stories in the textbook, novel and grammar. One big research paper at the end. Do not procrastinate and you will do well.
I had her for 103, 231, and 232. She's an amazing teacher! Extremely passionate & so willing to help. Her handouts are so thorough & will help for her exams a lot. She's organized & clear about her expectations. She is ALWAYS willing to help or give guidance when writing papers. Absolutely amazing.
I love her!! The homework is based on readings from the textbook on current events so its interesting, her essays are cool topics and she is very willing to help with them, she will respond to emails quickly and her class is not boring at all! if you do the work you should be fine!
I took her for creative writing Fall 2012. I absolutely love her. She's so personable and relates to her students so well. She's hilarious, and really really loves what she does and loves teaching. She gives great feedback on writing and really loves everyone unique styles of writing and embraces them. Loved this class, highly recommend her!!
Took Beers for Survey of English Literature. I highly recommend her courses. She's personable, funny, easy to talk to and fair in grading. Tests are essay tests but if you read the material you'll be fine.Heavy reading/assignments but excellent class overall. Do the work and you'll get a good grade. One of the best English teachers I've ever had.
I just had to write a review: Beers is a wonderful professor. I'm an English major so my opinion may be a bit biased, but her teaching is great. Her syllabus is engaging and not too overwhelming, and she keeps the discussion going in class. Awesome atmosphere and attitude. Loved going! You won't regret taking her. Sweetest prof at SCC!
She is one of the sweetest professors I've had and not to mention shes funny. However, she is a very tough grader so if your writing skills are not the best like mine then be prepared to struggle. She is always willing to help but she did have a tendency to nit-pick the essays.
I absolutely dreaded taking English 101 because I thought it was my worst subject. But the amount of work she assigned was reasonable, and worked up to more elaborate assignments. She has an unexpected sense of humor that makes classlectures enjoyable. I was dedicated to my work and I got an A in the class! I will be taking her again for 103!
I loved taking fiction with Beers. She always seemed a little nervousanxious, but was a great listener, gave a lot of great feedback, and was inclusionary of all genres and writers in the class. She's funny, but her humor isn't for everyone, I guess. Has in class exercises that I found helpful, and a portfolio assignment.
I love Beers-McCormick. She is so nice and down-to-earth. Her lectures were extremely helpful and never felt like a waste of time. The readings she assigned were completely manageable and also enjoyable. She is a fair grader but not too tough. And, she is a sweet and helpful person who has a passion for English! I highly recommend taking her!
Very good professor and gives you good feedback. However if you have poor writing skills she will not help you too much unless you go to office hours. But if you do all the readings and turn in all the essays in time you get an easy B. She grades hard on essays but the reading material is a breath of fresh air.
I took Lynette for 101 and 103, and even though I hate English I did very well in both classes. There's lots of reading and many essays to do, but that's kind of a given; it is an English class after all... But she's very kind and gives lots of feedback on essays. Loved her!!
I absolutley loved lynette! I took her last semester for english 103. She is a bit tough on grading but do the work and you will pass. She has a great personality, sense of humor and really loves & cares about her job. Lectures were always interesting and she chooses really good topics to discuss to engage all of her students. Highly recommend her!
She's the sweetest professor I have ever had. She cares about you and your grade. Lots of participation during her lectures but it's more fun back and forth opinion based. Around 6 papers we did (she gives great feedback), and 4 presentations (basically full points if you do the presentation). She's so so sweet a must take class with her!
Lynette is a great person but not a great professor. The way she has class is very unorganized. She will give you directions on one paper then jumps to another paper when the previous one isnt even due. Its just scattered and confusing at times. Class is easy but alot of papers. Alot of presentations in front of class as well. Overall, she is okay.
She is extremely bias. If you choose to argue in class during a discussion and she does not have your same views/ideals it will affect your grade negatively for the rest of the semester. She will also mark down on great papers if she doesn't agree with your topic. She made me feel personally attacked and would center me out. Extremely bad professor
Lynette's class is pretty easy to pass, however you must do all the presentations (which are super easy) and perform decently on both the quizzes and essays. Read the instructions for the essays carefully. also at first the she doesn't give alot of hw but towards the end she gives more. She didn't seem to hate anyone in our class.
Professor Beers is absolutely amazing. Anyone who needs to take either 231 or 232 should expect an awesome semester. She is funny, caring, and as long as you talk in class everyday will be fun. She really tries to connect with her students. This is not your typical major prep class. She is by far one of the best professors on the SCC campus.
LOVE LOVE LOVE HER!! Beers is an amazing professor as well as person! She is by far my favorite professor as SCC. Take her! You won't regret it!
One of the kindest and most knowledgeable professors on campus. While she does have a lot of readings per week, it's still reasonable in length. She gives you study guides for the exam, and as long as you take good notes to help you in studying, you'll pass. Do NOT skip her reader responses, as they're easy points that do add up.
Professor Beers-McCormick was by far the best professor I've ever had. Her teaching style is effortless. She is very clear and straight forward with what she expects. Yes, you will have to use your textbook as there are easy readings which will help with writing future essays. As for discussions, she is completely open-minded as well as hilarious!
Professor Beers is great. She is so personable in class and genuinely takes great interest in the lectures. After taking some other english professors I'd say she's a lot more straightforward with her expectations, not easy or lenient but not unreasonable by any means. She's always there to look over work and guide you. Just make sure to read!!!
Beers was probably my favorite professor this semester. She made class discussions more enjoyable. The lectures were sometimes lengthy, but it didn't bother me. She's a great storyteller and she's willing to make sure everyone passes. Also, there are in-class essays, but she will prepare you. And read the textbook because those quizzes add up!
Quiz every week, journals every week, 3-5 pages essay due every 3 weeks, in-class essays every month plus reading a book then take a quiz on it, also an in-class essay and a paper about it. Which means tons of homework throughout the semester. She is a tough grader too; you must be a gifted writer to get an A from her.
Professor Beers is probably the best professor Ive ever taken. The class requires a lot of reading, as does any literature class, but she makes everything so accessible and fun. She gives clear expectations and grades thoroughly but effectively. Its an easy class but never in a pushover kind of way. I would take her classes again and again.
Prof. Beers-McCormick is a really good teacher and you won't regret taking her. Even though you definitely need to "work" for your grade in her classes, you're going to be far better off if you take her class as opposed to taking an unknown professor. She definitely knows her stuff and she's got the "rhythm" for her class down perfectly.
She's very tough. Very hard to get an A. Uncompromising, she is set it her ways. I would not take her class again.
Mccormick test where clear but if you dont study you wont pass also the quizess are based on reading no multiple-choice is write youre own answer. most of the time it was talking in groups and powerpoints took her for english 103
Great teacher, super sweet! Gives thoughtful lectures and understands the students. However, she can be a tough grader.
Her three hour class could fit in a 30 minute time span. She just talks about her personal life. Grades very heavily and is not clear in her paper topics. She speaks more about her personal life than whats going on in class. Wouldnt take again. If you have a busy life I wouldnt recommend the class, her workload isnt bad her teaching is!
Talks way too much about her personal life. Barely teaches the basics- go online to teach yourself, this teacher is useless. Made me want to quit school but luckily I have other teachers who know what theyre doing .
She cannot teach and never teach. All she talk about is her house in laguna.
She is a horrendous professor. All she would do during class is talk about criticizing other people. The only time she would teach is rereading her power slides. She talks way too much about nothing related to the class, and frankly I know more about herself than what she supposedly teaches. Please dont take her class unless u want to waste 2hrs
Really sweet but not a great teacher. Didnt learn much in the class and had to do a lot of group work and projects. Also a really tough grader and really hard to get an A.
Professor McCormick is an extremely caring teacher. She provides helpful outlines and clear expectations for her papers. Its not hard to get an A as long as you do the work and put in some effort. The readings are interesting, presentations are easy and informal, and she offers a rewrite on any essay excluding the research paper. 100% recommended.
She was a very nice teacher, definitely recommend. She was always willing to throw ideas around and go over your upcoming paper to make sure you get a good grade and understand how to write it. The projects were easy and she was not a hard grader, just wants you to do the work.
This class is very assignment-heavy, but if you put in the effort and complete the assignments, it is pretty easy to get an A. Even through an online platform, the professor is very sweet and cares about how you are doing in her class. Total of 6 essays, weekly(ish) discussion posts, and weekly (interesting) readings with short-answer questions.
she is an okay professor and definitely a tough grader.
Good overall experience, would take again.
I took English 103 online last semester and was able to easily obtain an A through her lecture material and teachings. If you apply yourself, put in the work, and take time out of your week to focus on this class then you will be able to succeed.
Lots of assignments to do each week, but she will always give you full credit just for doing it. The rubrics and prompts for her essays are never completely straight forward, and I didn't like how she graded essays. She is very particular but really sweet.
She is one of the best professors I've had. She provides great feedback on papers. My writing improved after taking two classes with her. I would highly recommend her. Just do your work.
Be ready to read. The readings are interesting, and she is passionate about what she teaches. One of the best professors I have taken. I would take more classes her.
Passionate about the subject
She is so considerate and not much of a homework load. There are 3-4 readings each week that has a writing assignment or quiz of 3-4 questions, and 5 writing assignments throughout the whole semester. She gives good feedback on writing assignments and allows you to rewrite one for a better grade. Discussions are great and open in this class.
I can not say enough nice things about her. She treats her students like human beings which is unfortunately rare in professors. She builds personal relationships with each student and is extremely understanding with absences and extensions. She is extremely intelligent and makes learning the material interesting.
While I never saw her in person, she is a very kind and caring professor that puts lots of effort into making her students learn and improve. She leaves clear feedback on papers, which you will be writing lots of (6 for me). Easy to contact with questions and knows her way around the Canvas site. Definitely recommend to any needing this class.
Professor McCormick is a caring instructor who provides clear feedback. The workload is manageable, and unstuck ai can be helpful for essay prep. Recommended for a solid English credit.
Honestly love this class it was amazing just beware of the reading because it is a good amount but genuinely loved this class would definitely take another class with her
very much not a good experience, I was at my lowest trying to pass this course and due to lack of support I had failed
