Very good instructor, once you get over her accent and her different teaching methods. I would deffinatly reccommend that you actually attend her class she adds things that aren't outlined, and she sometimes gives HUGE hints to whats on the test
loved her!! helpful, explains things well, caring, helps you learn, not memorize, makes it fun and interesting. I enjoyed showing up for her classes. Best Biology teacher I've had!!
She favors some people, seems to be the ones that don't do well in the class. Doesn't answer clearly when you ask questions, and gives useless reviews for exams. Might as well have been taking a home study class cause her lectures are basically a summary of the course manual. Didn't like her.
Read the coursepack and the text and you'll do fine. Use the CD-rom that comes with the text for online tests/review - HUGE help. She runs a self-directed class - in other words, if you need help ASK!
BEST teacher ever...actually enjoys teaching. Very helpful and always gives hints! Also explains everything in good detail so that you actually understand the concepts, also a great help in the lab! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK =)
not too bad.
Extremely informative. Very clear, answers all questions and sticks to related material and time limits. Quite possibly the best teacher in the school for this field.
Absolutely the best biology teacher I have ever had. She's smart, interesting, funny, and meticulous, just the way a biology teacher should be.
Lynette is one of the best biology teachers I've had. She is very helpful. Totally kept her students interested in the topics at hand. Totally recommend her to other students.
really nice and really helpfull. Her tests are pretty fare in that you have to study to pass them... but they are not impossible.
she is so helpful and her class is very academic
she is tough, but fair. She prepares you for the mid-term and finals. Always ask her if you do not understand something because this is the instructor that explains everything so clearly that even my children would understand. You may need to brush up on your spelling because she will take marks off. If your interested in learning this is definitel
Great Prof! She's easy as long as you keep up with the work. Does a good job preparing you for the mid-term / final. Definately the best teacher for biology!
I took a previous course with Lynette and would only take 1110 with her. Her lectures are clear and informative. She provides relevant examples that clarify the content. Not an exceptionally exciting course (but a pre-req for 1210) but she makes the learning enjoyable. Highly recommended.
Lynette is an excellent teacher. She is very approachable, so ask questions if you don't understand, she will clarify it so anyone will understand. You will do well if you do the recommended readings and study for the weekly quizzes, dont't wait for the for the midterm or final, and spelling does count.I would highy recommend her as a teacher!
I LOVE Lynnette...
Dr. L is a great prof. She is soo good. NOTES are great. Very helpful. Spends time to go over everything. Lays everything out for you. Lab exam was pretty****though. think the avg was 50%
Smart, interesting, and enthusiastic about what she teaches. Not really understanding of ways people learn other than to what she teaches (i.e. don't ask for her notes, she thinks you learn by writing...I learn by listening & seeing). She moves VERY fast through material, so keep up. Maybe take a tape/digital recorder to go back to lectures later.
Very very very clear on what she asks of you. If you do bad in this course you only have yourself to blame, shes straight to the point, gives you review sheets weekly (which help out tons), points out what is potentially on the tests, very helpful and good sense of humor. Course load is tough, but she makes it interesting.
An excellent teacher! I never missed a single class, she makes everyday exciting to sit and listen to her lecture. She speaks thorough and clear, provides notes, and makes the textbook useful (not just the course manual). I commend her for being an excellent teacher and making this class worthwhile.
This class is pretty tough. On our mid term, the average was about 58%. Don't take her class unless you are really into biology and have some biology background or else you will be screwed
awesome teacher, great person! never makes you feel dumb- a pleasure
She is the most amazing professor I have ever had! She is extremely helpful and there is just something about her teaching style that makes it stick. She will clarify things as much as possible and gives weekly reviews that are VERY helpful. Make sure you do them because it really helps with studying. Weekly quizzes that let you know where you stand in the class are also very helpful. Anyone who does bad in this class can only blame themselves for not studying hard and focusing. You DO NOT need a Biology background to do well in this class. The only thing I didn't like is that the midterm and final are written by all the profs and not just her so there was just something about them that didn't fit with how she taught. I was scared to take this class but it ended up being my favourite class all semester!
the course is a bit of everything and concise... :( She is good prof, and seems to like what she is doing:) knowledgeable and encouraging ... although the course is quite demanding, but comprehensible, previous knowledge rather preferred, time is an issue recommended;)
Very informative, interesting teacher. Obviously likes to teach and cares whether you learn or not. Study weekly, the course covers a lot, and she quizzes each week which helps solidify the material. Never makes anyone feel foolish for not understanding. Do not have to have a background in Biol. but it would help. Recommend her highly!
Definatly one of my favourit profs so far. Explains everything clearly, is extremely helpful, and is super nice. She's not really a hard marker, but she does expect alot of detail in written answers. My ONLY complaint is her pronounciation of evolution.
she is a pretty cute good teacher, she doesn't make you feel like a moron like lucia for not knowing an answer shes not bad for her 1st cell bio class
AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!! Take a class with her!!! I hate Biology and science in general (I'm an English major, but this course was required for me) and this class was actually enjoyable! Lynette is extremely passionate about her field and makes sure that everyone understands what she is teaching. AWESOME INSTRUCTOR!! Thank you Lynette! :)
REALLY HARD. Amazing teacher, just very hard classes. There is no cutting corners in her classes. She is intimidating at first but very nice when you get to know her.
Lynette is a very nice lady who care a great deal about teaching and she REALLY knows her stuff. I feel bad because I wish I had put more effort into her class because the one thing is: she is a demanding marker which makes it kinda tough considering how much material is covered. You must keep up with all the material and review the course manual.
Seems like everyone loves this lady but I can't agree. She doesn't answer your questions clearly, she'll dance around the topic you asked about and then go off on some other tangent and eventually relate everything back to evolution. If she doesn't like you she'll completely ignore you in class. Not happy with this teacher choice at all.
lectures boring. hard marker.
Do NOT take a class with Lynette if you can avoid it. She is a very nice lady but her quizzes and tests and answer expectations are brutal, and I am normally an A student. Class average on the midterm was 44%. I will probably have to re-take this class.
Dr. Sigola is an awesome instructor. She is very clear and concise and has an extremely effective teaching method. NOT a class for slackers or those who think they can get by without studying. It won't happen.
On time and organized. She knows her stuff and expects others to know it as well. Hard marker. That being said, I was very well prepared for 1210. If you want to learn, take bio with Lynette. If you want an A with her, you have to work for it.
Very disappointed. Beyond hard marker. She expects the world in an answer and maybe will give a 7/10 on a perfect answer. She is knowledgeable about the material and is prepared for classes all the time with slides. However, you may fall sleep in class. I donâ??t know why!! maybe because of her voice.
OMG NOOOO! Just don't do this to yourself! She is the worst teacher I have ever had. She knows her stuff and comes to class prepared but is terrible in every other way. The class average for the midterm was 50%. Extremely unfair marker; questions are vague, and require very detailed responses.
You have to work hard but a good grade will have never felt so well deserved. Forces you to use proper study habits to do well. Wants you to excel! She won't give you the answer outright for questions. No easy A. I am the type to usually take the easiest prof but I am so glad I took her. Completely new outlook. THANK YOU LYNETTE
Lynette makes you work for your mark but she's a decent prof, nonetheless. She's willing to help you if you ask for it and as for her tests, they may be on the hard side but she repeats things in class that are most likely to show up on tests. She's also a really nice lady, anyone who says otherwise was just a slacker who wants things handed tothem
Very lovely person, but don't mess around in her class or you'll get the death glare. Her lectures are very useful and organized, make sure you do the reading because a lot of the test questions are on the info you'll find there. Don't expect your GPA to go up if you take her class, but do expect to learn a lot.
Ok... if u are going to trasnfer to university DONOT take this course at college!!!!!!!!! The material they teach for the 2nd year biology is what we taught in 3rd year of biology in university ... so do urself a favor and take this course n Biol 2421.. i took both of them at douglas and had to retake them at university which is way easier
I was shocked to see she has such a good rating, then I saw that most are from pre-2010. She has gone downhill fast; clearly knows her stuff but seems to have lost her desire to teach. She was condescending and wasted lecture time "parenting". Lectures were all over the place, useless, but mandatory (-.5%/class). Be prepared to teach yourself.
Lynette is such an awesome instructor. I find her very helpful. She is very knowledgeable. You really need to do more than just memorizing the facts. You have to understand and be able to apply your knowledge in-depth. You also have to remember that this course may be tough because this is where and when you build your basic knowledge of biology.
Lynette is a very strict marker, however this makes you better prepared for the final exams. One really nice thing about Lynette is she will actually give feedback on the weekly tests which is rather useful. Not an easy A, but can definitely achieve a good mark with proper studying habits.
Expects perfect, precise, extremely detailed answers to obscure questions or irrelevant details. Tests on lecture topics that are not in the course syllabus - expects you to memorize insane amounts of data. Very very very hard marker. Don't bother buying the textbook, I didn't open it once. Everything you need to memorize is in lecture slides.
2321 is just a really hard. Average of the midterm was 51%. The thing is, I dont think it is her fault that the average was really low. She even gave us the topic on what will show on the written questions and it was exactly. She is very clear on what answers she needs and that is detailed answer which anyone who studied well will be able to give.
Ill start off by saying I hate biology. Not because of Lynette mind you, but because i dont like the topic. However, Lynette did a rly good job of explaining the material and helped me navigate this tough class
She is a really nice professor!
Lynette is an awesome prof and tries to connect with students by throwing in jokes. She's awesome and tries to make concepts easier to understand by going over things slowly. I just never liked biology and wasn't strong in it so I was never motivated to study for it. But if you are thinking of taking BIOL 1110 I would take it with her!
she is very hard marker dont take her class
ask questions which are not even in lecture slides and text books
SIGOLA teaches u material which we even dont do in 4th year courses she just love deducting marks
SHE DOES NOT HELP AT ALL ,EVEN WE ASKED HER QUESTION MANY TIMES BUT SHE FURTHER INCREASE THE CONCEPT CONFUSION.
Beyond hard marker She expects the world in an answer seriously even reading book and lecture does not help you
NOT RECOMMENDED
Great teacher. Classes were enjoyable. I printed out the powerpoint slides and put notes on them as she went through them in class and mostly studied from them. Very passionate about her work and teaching and is eager to help you understand the material. You do need to read the notes and study but it was not an overly difficult class.
Lynette is one of the most brilliant people I know. Be ready to show respect not only for her, but also for other students, the lecture/labs and the material itself. Expect Cell bio to push you, be ready to UNDERSTAND the material and not just memorize it, which not only takes conscious listening in lecture, but textbook reading and obj questions.
She is very kind and knowledgeable about biology. Great lectures and points out how concepts inter-relate. However, she's also no-nonsense. Don't goof off in class, be late, skip labs, etc. Her tests are hard but fair.
Lots of material covered so its hard to take down notes in class. Lynette is clear with giving information and explains everything pretty well. Although her quizzes and tests are very challenging because she gives some trick questions or can be wordy to confuse you. Studying a lot and keeping up each week you can do decent. She's really nice
Shes rude and gets angry if you ask her a question she will get annoyed, will tell you to look in the textbook. You need to study every week in order to get a good grade (there are weekly quizes), she marks hard and expects perfect answers. Other than that, she is nice. will give you the stare if your on ur phone/making to many sounds lol
Lynette is extremely kind if you are there to respect the class and put in the effort to do well - or at least try to. She helps clarify concepts if you go to her after reviewing the text about it, and points out key areas for you to focus on in her weekly quizzes. No phones, talking or noises in class, but lectures are comprehensive&put on BBoard.
Took it for the credit, and even though it was hard, it was also one of the best things I've ever done. Lynette's an amazing prof, very supportive, caring, and motivational. Expect weekly quizzes - that help a lot in the long run - and heavy and long study sessions. Be ready to write detailed answers and to read a lot. Overall, great experience!
The course was organized like most intro bio courses; weekly quizzes, lab exams, and a cumulative final. Lynette is a slightly hard marker, but super kind and supportive if you're there to learn and focus on the course material. There was an anomaly with some questions where it was difficult to interpret what they were asking, so be knowledgeable!
Really boring lectures. Seems to be nice to you when you are doing well and more rude when you are doing poorly. Had to study an insane amount just to pass with a B. Very hard marker, especially on written. One could get 90% on MC and 50% on the written. Glad I'm done!
One of the most, if not the most amazing professor I've had. Cell bio has been the hardest class taken so far but it really prepares you. Her way of teaching is way different, she really wants you to understand what you're learning, not just memorize and write it down. You need to engage a lot with the material, she really gives you a lot to help.
You HAVE to study a lot to do well on quizzes and tests. If you are strong in bio I would recommend her as she runs a very calm class but if you are not, although it is do-able, maybe look elsewhere. She also may call on students for answers. Personally, I would take bio wt someone else.
Ended up dropping this course but she was kind of scary. She def loves biology but it's hard when you're a social science major like me. I missed a week of classes because I was sick and couldn't understand anything on my own. The powerpoint that she points online is NOT the same one that she uses in class and she goes fast during lecture
Really dislike her teaching style, it only appeals to one type of learner and everyone else must try hard and scramble for information. In addition to the online powerpoint slides being incomplete, she goes fast during the lectures so it's difficult to fill in the missing information. The textbook is a bore.
Worst teacher
She is an hard marker. I am glad that I am done with this course.
Lectures are incredibly quick and boring, questions asked about anything in the lecture gets redirected to the textbooks and weekly quizzes are incredibly hard and contain almost nothing from the lecture. Textbook is needed to pass this class furthermore she is a very tough marker in regards to any written work, good luck.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Bruh, I've never hated a prof till I took her this sem. When you ask her a question, she acts as if you're stupid and will "guide" you to the answer but you just get even more confused. Toughest grader EVER; she just loves to deduct marks. Save your money, stress and sanity by dodging this bullet bro, trust me.
One of the worst professors I have taken, lectures are incredibly boring and vague questions are ignored and redirected to the textbook. Stay clear
No matter how good of a student you are, this class will ruin your GPA.
She doesn't answer questions that are asked in class, "redirects" to the textbook instead. The weekly quizzes she gives are almost impossible to pass, she includes material that is not taught in class. I attended every lecture, did all textbook readings and objective questions, studied, and still thought I might fail. Never had such a tough marker.
Hardest course I've ever taken. She expects too much and grades as such. She is rude and will try to embarrass you in lecture under the guise of "seeing if you're listening". Put your effort towards the exams. Lab reports are tough, so don't stress out over them. Make time to talk to her, or she'll always be busy. Form a study group, it WILL help.
I would highly recommend against taking this course with Lynette. She's a nice enough person, but honestly it's not worth it. You really have to memorize definitions verbatim from the slides and word answers in a specific way for her to give you full credit. You will automatically drop a letter grade (minimum) by taking this course with her.
Mixed feelings. Really sweet woman, cares about her students, but she got on my nerves sometimes. I did bad on a weekly quiz bc of a medical issue and she wouldn't excuse it. Lectures were dry but not her fault. Loved the accent. Hard to tell what she was going to test on. Some textbook reading. A lot of material, so much memorization. Hard class.
If you really put in the work and do the reading you won't have a problem. I would not recommend this class if you are not someone that is serious about science and your career in science. Overall I learned a lot and the dedication I had to put in to get a good grade in this class has set me up for my future classes and given me a good base.
I would describe Professor Lynette Sigola as disrespectful to her students. Her 'teaching philosophy' is to 'help' teach her students to be independent learners - in this case this translates roughly to "you're on your own, if you ask me a question I'm going to tell you to read the text instead of answering". Very disrespectful to avoid students.
Lynette is a caring, friendly, intelligent individual who is genuinely interested in teaching her students. It was her first online semester and she adapted well, the online environment did not interfere with her great attitude and she adjusted her teaching methods accordingly while seeking feedback from her students. I would recommend her.
Biology 1110 was a class I took with Dr. Sigola and about 9 weeks in I had to withdraw as there was no chance of salvaging my grade. 12 other students felt the same. Lectures are straight out of the textbook and she answers questions by referring you back to textbooks. Weekly quizzes /20 are EXTREMELY difficult and wont show her your understanding
So so so so so horrible. The worst prof I've had at Douglas and I would never take a class with her again. Extremely boring and confusing lectures that made you more confused about the content, especially when she DOESN'T ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS. Extremely hard grader. Class averages are often about 60% or lower for assignments or tests.
Amazing professor, truly caring and kind, but if you can take this course with any other professor, I would recommend it as it's the hardest class ever, and she expects a very deep understanding of the material. Average for most of her exams was FAILING. With all this said, I acquired better studying habits and learned more than in any other class
Don't take this course with this prof. I have never come close to failing any science classes and I am 100% certain I will fail this one. weekly quizzes, which are basically midterms and you need to word everything in HER words or you are marked incorrect. Do NOT take this course if it is not mandatory. Hardest grader/prof I have ever had.
kind prof, but one of the harshest markers with the highest expectations ive seen. if you dont explain enough or in her exact words, she will mark you wrong. lectures are useless if you arent reading the textbook, which she expects you to do, but attendance is mandatory. avoid at all costs unless you are very very passionate about bio. GPA dropper.
Everyone AVOID this professor. her tests and quizzes are on random material that is not in the lectures. Her quizzes are only 15 minutes and ask unimportant questions which you won't even study in the textbook or lecture. Her lectures are dry, with hardly any class participation.
Lectures don't cover even half of what you need to know. Expects you to learn everything from the textbook and attendance is mandatory but you don't get any benefit to your grade for attending which makes no sense. Could give a 0 out of 5 rating if possible
Taking BIOL1110 with Lynette was hard, but helped me shape my study habits. She is a tough grader and expects you to be specific with the way you answer questions. Be prepared to read the textbook and depend on the course manual as the lecture slides are mostly content from the textbook. If you are not serious about Biology don't take this class.
Quizzes do not include topics taught in class or mentioned in textbooks. Unwelcoming personality. Gives you a death stare if you're late to class and calls you out for the same. She is a tough grader. I really hope I never have to see her again after this semester. I have always been good at Bio and loved it so much until I met MS Lynette.
sucks :(
Lynette makes it clear what is going to be on quizzes/exams, and makes sure to spend extra time around these objectives. She connects each body system to one another so that it make sense. Her quizzes are straight to the point, and exams contain the material that she tells you to study. Utilize time in class to do the notes.
an extremely tough grader with little room for leniency. Even minor spelling mistakes on a quiz are penalized, and it often feels like she doesn't take the time to read entire responses before marking them. Her strict approach can be frustrating, especially when small errors overshadow the overall understanding of the material.
She is such a caring professor who wants you to succeed, but her quizzes are super difficult. I sat at a C+ the whole semester and boosted it up to a B- with the final. The whole class is heavy with Biochem!!! Nice, but prepare to have to put in the work for a good grade.
Just don't take her class
If you plan to take other courses (3+ more), keep working on the side, or aim to have a good school to life balance, beware. You would need to put extra effort and attention to keep up in this class. (Please don't take this prof, take another one I beg.)
I took this class for credit, and I was excited, but now I'm going to have nightmares about her death stares. On a serious note, I did not like her class because she was very disrespectful to her students, would avoid giving right answers and called students out in front of the whole class. She also laughed when we would answer questions wrong.
If you are great listener and you feel like you catch all the details you should take it otherwise i reccommned not to take her. She always targets students. Exams are more complex than quizzes, and unexpectable also. She will give questions and daigrams that are not in slides but in textbook so you have to also read text books
Lynette has had a tremendous impact on me. I took her class back in 2015-2017. You could tell she took teaching very seriously and was passionate about the material. Showing up from high school I was nervous. She helped me gain a passion for learning and confidence in my academic abilities.
Most of the stuff she teaches in lectures does not prepare you enough for her exams. If you aim to maintain a good school life balance do not take her class, you will need to put in the extra hours in order to be successful in her class. I also did not appreciate how she tends to put students in the spotlight at times, specially when frustrated
I think she's good at teaching, her voice is kind of soothing so you can fall asleep listening to her, just caffeinate yourself before you go in because she does explaining everything fairly well and I felt that I learned a lot in class, she genuinely wants us to try and do well.
