She's an awesome teacher, I highly recommend her.
BEWARE - there's NO philosophy in her Philosophy of Religion class - it's just a basic, uninspired history of world religions. I recommend it if you enjoy memorizing Bible stories. This class was like being in Sunday school.
she puts questions on tests that were NEVER covered in class.
Comment about Phil of Religion is spot on. We had to memorize all the Jewish holidays. Intro was fun, esp. if you like Plato. She's relatively liberal politically.
What a terrific teacher--very funny, very intelligent, and most important, VERY, VERY FAIR!!Dr. B rules!!!
Popular Culture is the best course I have ever taken! Dr. Bartholome is the one of the best profs I have ever had.
Very patient and fun too, really learned a lot in her class
I was a student at MCC for 2 years and now I go to SUNY Brockport. In all my experiance I have never had such a terriable teacher as Dr. B. I found that she wasn't nearly as interested in teaching as hearing the sound of her own voice.
I love Dr.B she is a great teacher and is very fair. I would recommend her to anyone.
Dr. B is awesome. Best professor I've ever had.
This is a tough class and there is lot's of reading and assignments. But it will open your eyes to aspects about american culture that we aren't normally aware of.
You will either love her or hate her, good luck.
There is a lot of work involved in this class, so beware. I averaged 18 - 20 hours a week in homework.
Dr. B is by far the best professor I have ever had! Her enthusiasm for what she teaches makes it all worth while!
This class was a lot of work and reading, but she made it just so interesting. I truly enjoyed the interactions with her online. Highly recommended!
Dr. B is the best, She is so full of energy. She makes learning the class fun! Keep up the good work! : )
Best teacher/professor EVER. That is all...
Dr. B.'s defintely not easy, but still awesome. Sheloves her students and knows what she's talking about,
Dr. B is a great teacher and laid back, unless you get her mad. First impression- she came in and kicked her shoes off and just started laughing. Dr. B seems very crazy at times, but she knows her stuff and makes the class interesting. She's a great professor and I would take any of her classes again in a heart beat.
she picks her favorites the first few days and tends to ignore those who arent. funny lady with lots of great stories tho.
A totally awesome professor! The best one I have had yet
she is a very nice lady, and i liked her as a person, but she is a horrible teacher. do not take this class if you want to actually learn about world religions. i will re take world religions at another school. she only taught christianity and judiasm, and then had students teach many other religions during the last week of class.waste of time
she's a nice lady, but will probably only get around to teaching about half the course

Everyone should take a class from her--she is great
She is a great teacher. This is the second time I've had her. As long as you take notes and read the stories you're golden, if not watch out; she kicked out 4 students ast semester for not paying attention and talking. Sometimes seems like a lot of work, but helps you learn the material. If you're willing to work, take her class she's a great teacher

there are two exams, five quizzes, and one huge project. start the project right away. if you miss the first exam then you might as well drop the class because she wont let you make it up. she was not helpful to me at all. told me i could email something, was unable to open it and never let me know. unpredictible grader. thumbs down!

This is the third class I have taken from Dr. Bartholome. She is a great teacher, very personable, and very fair. She had an extremely difficult semester, but through it all never lost her sense of humor and was always there to help everyone. She rocks!
I took her over a summer session and spent two 4 hour classes with her a week. She made it go by fast and was always understanding. She will make you interested in the class but of course you have to pay attention, read and work hard to get a good grade. That's life. I recommend her especially for a short session if you want it to go by fast!
A totally terrific professor. She is funny, brilliant, nutty, interesting, pretty, and an all around nice individual. I learned a lot and grew a lot from her teaching.
A great teacher--nice to look at, easy to understand. Dr. B is the bomb!

sooooo disorganized... she's nice but i wouldn't recommend her at all if you want to get your tests/quizzes/projects back on a timely fashion.
An absolutely terrific professor. She is a bit nutty and sometimes a bit flakey, but she knows her stuff and is a pleasure to listen to and learn from. I recommend her highly!
Her online class was well organized and she checked in regularly. A very helpful teacher. Learned alot
BEWARE!!! She doesn't like when you disagree with her and LOVES to rant and hear her own voice. Very lazy and not available when you have questions or comments.
She was a great teacher. She treated each student very respectfully and would go over each topic until everyone seemed to understand. Not at all reliable though. I went in twice during exam week to get a project back at times she specifically said she'd be there and both times I found notes on her door w/ different excuses.
i dont think she was on top of her game. i feel like her class was a waste of my time
opinionated and not fair when you disagree with her. Make sure you play her game if you want a decent grade. Give her what she wants and not your honest opinion.
Dr. B is getting a bad rap--everybody loves her and there were students in this class who just liked giving her a hard time. She is a great teacher--and did a nice thing by stepping in and taking over the class. Yeah, Dr. B! Don't let these slackerds get you down.
I personally would not recommend this professor. A lot of the text that we bought for this class were not used enough, and I found them useless. I wouldn't say she's a bad person, but she isn't the best "teacher". Didn't really learn anything I haven't learned before. I learned more by myself than in her class.
DrB did us a favor and managed to teach us a lot in a very short semester. I know for a fact everyone who thought they didn't learn anything or didn't do well were probably the people talking and sleeping in class and telling people they didn't study enough before every test and quiz. she was very helpful to me anytime i needed it and a lot of fun!
This was an easy class, so if you need a GPA booster take the class, but if you are interested in learning something or anything from it, FOR-GET IT. I personally found it a waste of my time.
Don't disagree with her, she will bury you. Learn her side and stick to it. Don't ask for help, she will only ignore you.
She's a fun teacher and tells a lot of interesting stories. Most of the time class ended at least 10 mins early which was awesome. She is a good prof. and I would reccomend her.
Dr. B is a sweet person, but not the strictest professor. I expected an honors course to be really tough, and I didn't really feel like I could sink my teeth into it until the very end. Also, Dr. B seemed really disorganized a lot of the time, and she was sometimes late to class.
where to begin. more then 10 minutes late to class 90% of the time. yet if a student is late they are not aloud in.and we were going to have it held against us if we left before she was 20 minutes late, constantly telling pointless stories that end up consuming all class. most unorganized class ive ever been in including high school.
Yes people, Dr. B. can be disorganized, she can miss a lot of class, she can be play favorites, and she can not return work for weeks on end. However she is still a really cool woman, who has a ton of life experience and really isn't too hard. So lay off the lady.
she can be so rude. i am not impressed. how are you supposed to know how you are doing in her class if she doesnt return ANYTHING in a timely manner? Midterm back with 3 weeks of classes left...nice.
Professor Bartholome is one of the best teachers I ever had. She makes class interesting and is very explicit during lectures. Go professor B!
She is a fair teacher if you show your interest in a course material.Interesting and funny.
Very disorganized. Lectures are all over the place. However, her class notes are clear n all quizzes n exams come right from them. Her grading systems is horrible. She gave my friend a B and me a B- n i had better grades. I called her on it n she claimed she made a calculation error. She changed to B. I still didn't get it.Class Not Reccomended!!
Where to start. She is THE WORST teacher I've ever had. She was constantly late, but will berate you in front of everyone if you step in late ONCE.Most of the class time was spent talking about her dog and many male friends who would call her during class. Disorganized and not available for help, could not be bothered to return midterm on time.
Dr. B is a great woman, but I would not recommend taking this class with her. She is quite unorganized and her lectures seemed to be all over the place. Class is not terribly hard, but her policies and grading techniques are very unclear. I did not finish this class with much more knowledge than when I started.
You all should be ashamed of yourselves. Dr. B is a great teacher--she had the semester from hell--her husband was in the hospital, her brother was critically ill, and she taught extra classes to help out her colleagues. So she had one bad semester--she is still one of the best professors I have ever had--lay off of her!!!!
Alright we all know she had a bad semester but lets talk about the real Dr.B....shes great! I loved her class I'm even taking a second with her, and one with her sister. The class is moderately easy just do the work! which isnt even that much. She does really cool projects instead of researched written assignments and is always avalible to help
in terms of philosophy ...take it with Drost if you can .....it will make everyones life a little better....and personal problems should never be shared that openly with students..why dont we all just say oh george bush is a great president he just had a bad 8 years lol
Dr. B is a nice woman but not a very effective teacher. One day, in the middle of a sentence, she told us that she wanted to eat a sloppy joe, which I thought was very distracting. In lieu of actually teaching, she will name drop and list her credentials to impose herself as an authority. I wish I could have taken this class with another professor.
One of the worst teachers I have ever had at MCC. For the most part she teaches the class well and gives good notes. However she is very rude when working one on one and has a way of belittling a student. She makes your feel stupid when you ask a question and getting help. I agree with the comment below me on name dropping.
Easily the worst professor I've ever had. She is a funny woman but does not belong in a classroom. She is completely disorganized which makes her class very hard to follow. She wastes almost all of her class time and is unclear about almost everything. I STRONGLY recommend not taking her classes.
Do Not Take Her class. She is impossible, nothing you do will be right. Started out with 40 kids in the class, down to 10, and maybe half of them will pass the class. Im so pissed I wasted my time
the worst teacher I have ever had, she doesn't make any sense when she talks and just goes off on random topics. She taught me nothing and was always late to class but expected all of us to work unbelievably hard. DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HER CLASSES!!!!!!!
seems like she picks favorites on day one of class, very random, talks about personal life a lot. Grading is unclear, not very helpful when asked for help, she taught a 100 level class as if it were a 200-300 level class! i was not happy with her as a teacher at all
Easily one of the worst professors i have ever had!!! She was very nice, on her manic days. Late to class all the time, was a professor that didn't equally put the work in her students did. She even told us that she would have information on a paper and never gave us the help she told us she was going to give. Dont get me wrong i liked the MATERIAL
Avoid at all costs.
HORRIBLEST PROFESSOR EVER....STAY AWAY!!!!
Dr. B was a great teacher....although she was tough and kind of strict she still had one of the best personalities and she made intro to ethics a very interesting and useful course to take.
If you care about your GPA DONT take this class! This was by far the worst professor I ever had. I was never late for class but those who where she didn't allow in yet she was late 50 percent of the time. She denies students help and never returns work so you are unclear what your grades are.
Shows up late every class, and will yell @ u if u r late. Quizes are 10 ? and she asks unimportant details about book that are not pertinent to the topic. If you love Phil- you'll be fine. If you want an A, it's not possible
Can be very nice & humorous some days, however frequently has bad days where she is very rude. Takes a very long time to return papers. Frequently late to class despite being very strict about students being on time. The class itself is more like a history class about philosophers - very, very little discussion. Class is difficult for a 100 level.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. she has favorites she picks out (all students she has had in other classes). she is late constantly and then when you are late she closes the door and even if you knock she doesn't open it for you. she doesn't care if you have your own issues to deal with, and doesn't make time to help you.
She is not consistant in her behaivor which makes it really hard to figure her out.
i have never failed a class in my life...i failed her class. enough said. worst teacher i have ever had. please...if you care about your gpa and sanity, don't take a class with this woman.
Worst professor that I have ever had. She is always late to class and has a zero tolerance if you are. Takes forever to get papers back and you learn nothing. You read a book, take a quiz, and then maybe discuss for 5 mins. A very large project that is due mid-semester. Blames her personal problems on students or her ADD. She needs to be medicated
Dr. B is the best. Just come to class and do your work and you will do just fine. If you just want to take up space, don't bother
Loves saying that she is a scholar and has a lot of experience, but just because you are a "scholar" does not mean you can teach. Missed first 3 weeks of course and tried having the class make up the work when she got back. Expects more work out of this 100 level course than any 200 or 300 level course I have taken at RIT.
Absolutely the best. I can't believe people have said that Dr. B is a bad teacher--she is really great. If you have a problem, she will help. If you need extra time, she will help. The problem is that students just want to sit in class, do nothing, and get a good grade. If you care about really learning, take a class from her!!
What a great class. A super teacher. Dr. B rocks. She is kind and concerned. Even though her husband died this term, she kept coming to class and kept helping us. Keep up the good work, Dr. B
I took Western religions with her. She is an interesting character and there is never a dull class. As long as you are semi-involved and get your papers in on time (there's only a couple) you'll be alright.
I passed her class but would not recommend this teacher. She cancelled almost 8-10 classes in the spring semester. And then tells students to watch their attendance. She would assign novels to read and then never go over what you just read or maybe take 2 minutes. Lastly, she can be very rude too!
Not a great teacher. Kind of rude, and not helpful if you aren't one of her favorites. I would definitely not suggest taking her course.
Not a fan. She makes you work around HER schedule. Like someone below said, being a "scholar" does not make you a good teacher. DO NOT TAKE!
Despite what others have said, I took HMN 220 with her over the summer and loved her! I read the comments before taking her class and was like, Oh great. But no, she was funny and very smart. I learned so much from her class it was crazy. I liked her so much, I am taking her HMN 221 class in the spring. Do your work and you are FINE :-)
SHe really almost seems indifferent as to whether or not you do well. The material is fine, but her attitude really made the class much less enjoyable.
Extremely inconsistent. Does not hold same expectations for herself as she does for students. Not a terrible person, but not a good teacher either. Harsh grader. The only class I have ever failed in my life Takes obvious favorites. At times did not comprehend course material. Moods fluctuate often. Very frustrating professor. Do NOT recommend!
Love pop culture, took it with her, failed. You read long books and don't discuss them at all. She appears to know nothing about her subject. Picks favorites, gives useless assignments. Took the same class with a harder prof, got an A. Enough said.
The class could have been really interesting but everytime she seemed to be going somewhere interesting she would get distracted or say that she didn't feel like teaching anymore and send us home. I paid good money to actually learn.
I agree with everyone else on here. It doesn't seem like teaching is her top priority. She expects us to put a lot of work into the class, but does very little work on her end. Take comething else.
I think everyone here has already said it: not a good teacher. Avoid her classes.
This teacher waited 6 weeks into the semester before correcting anything, then began to fail all of my assignments and there was no way to improve my grade at this time because I had already completed 6 modules, she ate my writing alive. Writing and reading assignments were very long and a really harsh grader. This was my first C. BOO!
Not a fun class and not a good teacher.
Dr. B oh Dr. B. She rambles, she can't focus, goes off on tangents, by the time she gave me back my failing papers i had already handed in 3 that were written the same way. Honestly, just focus on the tests and projects because perfection is impossible for the book report things.. shes got some cool tats tho lol
Tends to ramble and lose track of what her point was. Takes whole class periods to explain small amounts of information. Doesn't get grade material back to you in a timely fashion. -When I signed up for this class I was very excited. I was thinking ethics- debates in class, discussing current events, etc. I was very disappointed. Not even close!
She seemed like an interesting person and the class could of been a really interesting class. She was always late and she was very rude to my other classmates and then would be extremely nice to the people she favored in the class.she was inconsistant in everything. poor teacher.
Dr. B. is an excellent professor who loves working with students. She's willing to go the extra mile to make sure you succeed. Not just in the classroom... but in life.
Ah Dr. B. I had her for "philosophy" of religion. The class had nothing to do with the philosophy of anything, it was just Hebrew school again, then Anne Frank for a month and a week of the class teaching the history of every other religion. There were two huge projects she assigned almost together. We had to "create" a new faith. AVOID.
I was excited to take this class but she only read over the power points and asked students in class for the information. The trip to Salem involved dragging the class to tourist traps then we had to beg to go to actual pertinent landmarks. Terrible professor!
As a person she's great. As a professor, she can be a bit disorganized and flat, depending on her interest level. Class discussion was great at some times, other times, not so much. I was looking for a bit more out of the course.
Dr.B is a very nice women who motivated me to push my self to become a better writer..I liked her personally but she was unorganized and handed back work very late..She wasn't very clear with instructions on major projects and that hurt peoples grades...I don't think I would recommend her to anyone..nice person but not so good at teaching
I took this course the fall 2010 just to get all my English done with. The Course started like everyone elses, but This is professor she never stayed on the course outline, easily distracted, and rarely ever anded assignments back in a timely fashion. She is a good person but has a professor you should be on point and organized which she wasnt.
If you care about your GPA don't take this class. If you want to learn about religion, don't take this class. Dr. B is a very sweet lady if your on her good side but when it comes to teaching she's terrible. Her lessons were all over the place and going to her for help did absolutely nothing. In conclusion, don't take this class.
must attend class or she will remove you from roster with no hesitation. she is a stickler for how you write your papers and how you cite your work.
I used to be really passionate about classes and school, but thus professor made it unbearable! I honestly could not stand getting up and going to class because of this teacher. She took my passion away from learning. Not a good professor, I would never recommend anyone to take her class.
She was not very clear with directions and criticisms at all. I asked her to clarify and she never got back to me. She was terrible about answering questions. She picked topics that many of the male students felt uncomfortable about researching and pushed her own political agenda. Do not take this professor if you don't want frustration.
she is mean and disrespectful, and her answer to any problem is "you should withdraw"
I took her online English class and she never gave constructive feedback or told anyone what they need work on. Talked to many other students in my class and they were all frustrated with he. She lacks clarity in assignments. class stated with 21 students and ended with 7. Doesn't hand back work on time. Needs to be reported to MCC directors.
She is the worst teacher I have ever had. She gives us work and then makes us do countless discussions that dont help at all. Our first summary assignment the class average was a 20%. DO NOT TAKE WITH THIS TEACHER IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOU GPA!!!
Shes really good. If you're not serious about college then you can leave. Shes there to help students who WANT to learn. Suck it up.
This professor is rude and disrespectful. Avoid at all costs.
Dr. B as a teacher is amazing, I have absolutely no complaints on the class or material as they were exactly what I had expected going into it, but when it comes to grading I have never met a tougher grader, to the point where I would spent many hours on a single page paper and still feel it wasn't gonna get higher than a 65
I usually don't say bad things about teachers, but this woman is terrible. As a person - GREAT. as a prof - FORGET IT. She is mean, rude, and doesn't teach the material well AT ALL. Her lectures are confusing and she relies on the text to teach her students. Don't put yourself through the horror... find a different prof.
This professor is arrogant, rude, dismissive and disrespectful. Avoid her if you can!
If you care about your GPA, not worth your time. Extremely hard quizzes on material that is super easy. Isn't very clear on assignments, tells you her expectations after everyone has already gotten their grades back. She had a s great personality, but not for being a teacher. Constantly goes off on tangents instead of sticking to the material
I took this in my first semester of my freshman year. It was, by far, the hardest class I've taken to this date. I was not prepared for the amount of writing there was for this course. This class should be a 200-level class, because the content isn't easy to understand, and the workload is ridiculous. I plan on retaking this course for credit.
I took this class online and wasn't expecting what I got however she is an amazing professor and very intelligent. You have to want an A to get an A and you have to work for it. If your not serious about college and it shows in your work, she'll let you know. A lot of reading and time consuming but essential for a Nursing Degree.
Lynn's intro to philosophy is far denser than myself, (and clearly other reviewers) were expecting, grading criteria is ruthless, due dates are inconsistent, and she is willing to take over half credit off an assignment for format alone. Seems like a type A person teaching a type B class to me. If you take her, DO NOT TAKE HER ONLINE.
Avoid Dr. B at all costs! She literally kicked me out of class for combing my hair and another student for tripping over someones backpack, saying we were being "disruptive." She relies on the text to teach her students while providing little to sloppy explanations of the subjects in class.
The worst teacher I've ever had. Expects you to work 10-12 hours on her class. Long reading and writing assignments every week. Email her for help and she will tell you if you were struggling you should have dropped. She bases part of your grade off of how close to the deadline you did it. More work than any class. She doesn't cut any slack.
Material was difficult. She doesn't care much about her students. Book doesn't help yet she makes you read. Lectures are dull and uninteresting. Doesn't care about your future.
I emailed questioning a grade on a test response and was told to not email her again and that I was abusing the "privilege" of emailing her. She said she would report me if I emailed her again. This was for an on-line course mind you, the main contact method is email!!! Thinks very highly of herself and is very condescending.
Tests are hard and require a lot of studying. Tough grader. But you get what you put into this class. Receiving an A in this class is not easy but doable.
DONT TAKE HER CLASS!! Extremely condescending, encourages you to drop out, does not care about her students. Oh and dont you dare ever question her or challenge her. The first day of class she will tell you that debating and open discussion is okay but once you disagree with her she will take it personal and kick you out. Very rude in her emails.
This woman is extremely rude and condescending. I'm a straight A student and she basically suggested that I should drop out of her class after 1 week. She is also absurdly slow with grading assignments. By far the worst college professor I have ever had the misfortune of taking a class from!!
Lynn is an excellent professor who enjoys working with students. She's willing to go the extra mile to make sure students succeed; not just in the classroom, but in life.
Dr. B is overall a great instructor, but she may be better in a classroom setting rather than online as she was not to in her instructions of "abstract essays" and "argument evaluations" and it took several of us students researching and pooling together to figure out what she wanted.
This was my second class I've taken from Dr. B. I took it online and I have to say, I really missed her lectures and learning from her. The online environment misses out on so much learning opportunity. I would definitely take a class from her again but she's retiring.
I had trouble with Dr. B. I got a good grade in her class but I felt that maybe she is not meant to teach online courses. Her lectures were hard to follow and sometimes when you answered a question on an assignment she would dock points and ask additional questions as the reason, which was frustrating. I would avoid taking another class from her.
Dr. B is an incredibly strict in-flexible teacher. She has no tolerance for mistakes, although she frequently makes them her self vie lectures and assignments. For example, she took points off for not italicising a book title, but failed to do so in one of her homework questions. I would not recommend this teacher.
I wish I thought to check this website before registering for this class. Not forgiving.
Has a very rough reputation of being a tough Professor, but it is more of her making you work for your grade. There will be a lot of reading and expected of you, but is do-able. Will take some will to pass, and she has no sympathy for doing work poorly, so prepare to read.
The class is tough, you have to work for the grade you want. There is a reading assignment (whole book in 2 weeks?) Very interesting! I've learned how to email a professor correctly. She offered extra credit in the reading modules. Overall, a very good teacher that will make you actually learn something.
This class is a lot of work. It is very book heavy in fact you have to read one book within a week and a half about 3 weeks in. BUT, the work is interesting which makes it bearable. If you follow her directions and her examples you will do fine in the class, if you don't, there is no chance of passing.
This professor was genuinely one of the worst that I have had because she is extremely critical as well as hypocritical. The assignments are unclear and she refuses to explain them in any accomodating way (I am autistic). She does not follow her own rubric and has told me so herself. I will receive an A, however, the class average is below a C.
