This teacher knows her stuff. Her lectures are great and she provides good outside readings. I chose history as a major after taking her class.
Shes tough and a hard grader, her tests are also really hard
I love this instructor- I would take a class from her every semester if I needed it for my major. She's very professional and knowledgable. I would reccomend her to any serious student. You have to work in her classes!
Very biased against whoever disagrees with her. Really intolerant of any kind of dissent except what she already approves of.
She is hard and pushes you to think. If you're willing to work hard and actually learn something, she's one of the best teachers on campus to work with, IMHO.

She is so shamelessly biased against conservative thought that I was usually embarrassed for her in class. She knows her stuff but she preaches a lot from the lectern. A lot of eye rolling behind her back if you know what I mean. She's a total political hack! Everyone knows it but her. Sorry Lynn.
Lynn and I disagreed on almost every subject that was taught in class, but I would still take any other class that she taught if i needed it for my major. I think that she is a very professional teacher And maybe the ultra conservatives of this school should be more open minded towards other views
She talked alot about critical thinking, I bought into it until the first test! Only take her class if you enjoy alot of memorizing without application. I'm a history major and she made it boring for me! I quickly grew wary of her unwavering bias toward the left. All said, she does know her facts.
By far the toughest class I have ever had in college, but I liked what I learned. If your not a hist major i wouldn't recomend her.
Dr Bennett is a great teacher who really knows her subject. It is true that she is liberal but she is respectful of other's opinions. I disagreed with her politically often but still got an A. Tests are hard but not if you study in the manner she prescribes. Great reading asignments that help lear
She has unrealistic expectations for her students. The tests in the class are so tedious and deep that unless you can read her mind, you are guranteed a fail on the test(NO JOKE!)Even one of the best students that was in my class got a D that semester.

I have very few good things to say about Lyn. I took her class when my father was in ICU and in a coma dying and she wouldn't cut me any slack in attendance. I got good grades on all assignments but because my attendance was on and off she lowered my grade a whole letter grade. She's brutal.
Not the best class I have ever had. The assignments weren't hard if she likes you. If you don't believe what she does then keep your mouth shut or she will hurt your grade. Not the fairest of teachers. She can be quite mean. She is smart though.
This teacher is very hard and she has no mercy on you or your assignments. She doesn't make it clear what she wants out the homework and her test are VERY difficult. I didn't like the class.
Lyn is very difficult and expects a lot out of her students, which she has every right to do. I would not suggest taking her if you're not a history major. She knows her stuff. I learned an immense amount of information from her. If you study for the tests the way she tells you to, you will do well. Do the readings.
She knows the subject very well and expects you to as well. If you are good at memorizing facts take her and it will be easy. Make sure to make it to class because attendance counts and there are quizes so make sure and do the reading.

I stopped attending the class about five weeks after the semester started, never spoke to the professor, and ended up getting an E (when I clearly deserved a UW). I found her teaching style unacceptible, especially her requirement to access all of the course materials on my own outside of class. I did not enjoy her class at all.

Bennett knows her stuff, and her lecture's aren't boring at all, but she's vague when it comes to assignments and quizzes. She'll dock points on assignments if you don't word things the way she likes. She also takes it personally if you don't read, and has a seating chart. We are in college, right? I wouldn't recommend her for a starter student

I got an A in the class, but it was the worst experience of my life. I used to check her out on her very high opinion about her own expertise, and it turns out that she's just repeating stuff that was written years ago. I don't think she's read anything recently. Don't take anything from her. She respects no one but herself.
I took this class my first semester at UVSC. For a gen. ed. class, this was tough. I ended up failing the class, and had to retake it. I outlined every chapter and read over all the material, and I still got a D or F on each test.
Her lectures are very involving, and I never had heavy eyelids. However, this is not a class for the lazy. You MUST love history with your whole being to make it through. The study required still makes me shiver. I had nightmares about huge definition notecards eating me. If you want tradgedy in your personal history you've signed up for it now!
Lynn is a hard professor, but very professional. Her tests are difficult if you don't remember facts and dates. If you do, just study, ask her questions about what she knows, and you'll get an A.
If you want to learn take this class. I enjoyed it thuroughly. If you dont study for her test you will fail them. but she knows her stuff

This is Go-Round Number 2 with Lynn. Let's just say life hasn't improved. She only keeps roll because her students would never come otherwise, and will start slashing points off assignments if you coughed wrong while writing it. Albeit, she does know her stuff. She knows she knows her stuff, too. Avoid her for generals, at very least.
A great teacher! She makes the subject interesting and the class enjoyable. Fun, energetic and knowledgable. Class was great, but you do have to do the work. A lot of reading involved, but she helped so you really learned your stuff. Tests are hard, but do-able. You have to study. You'll learn a lot from her and get excited about the subject.
I took her for a lot of my history courses. She's one of the best history teachers. Undergrads who don't want to learn shouldn't take her. She's opinionated, but very fun. One of the best teachers at UVSC
Students looking to fill generals: Do not take HIST from this woman. Take this class if you are 21+, know how to suck up, and can read 13 pages of homework every night. Take this class if you like ignoring significant things and being indoctrinated in anti-republican pro-socialist jabber. You see enough gall in college.
terrible teacher. she was opinionated, rude and judgemental. she expects everyone to know everything about u.s. history prior to attending the class. if you don't answer her questions the way that she wants you to, she'll mock you in front of the class. never take a class from this teacher if you can avoid it.
This professor is very challenging, especially for a person that is only semi-interested in History in the first place. That being said, it was kind of refreshing to have a professor that actually expects you to learn the materials instead of giving you the easy way out EVERY time. If you are lazy, don't take her! If you want to learn, go for it
Bennett is the worst teacher at UVSC!! I got a C-, the lowest grade I have ever had in college, even though I studied for hours. If you are a couple minutes late to class you will lose points. She needs to wear a bra! Most of the test questions she never even mentions in class. Avoid her like the plague!
Lyn Bennett is the bomb. She was extremely helpful if you took the time to ask. She does expect allot from her students, but one also must keep in mind that this is college, not high school. Be prepared to wear your book out hard core style, and remember to keep an open mind.
This professor is disrespectful to students and a control maniac. Its her way or no way. I think she forgot that students pay her salary. On a scale of 1 to 10 she gets a 1.
The students who rate Dr. Bennett low are really entertaining. I liked the one who complained about reading 13 pages of textbook a night. I'm sure that's a lot for hospitality management majors or PE, but its nothing. If you're interested in going to graduate school at all, her class will prepare you better than any other at UVSC.
She expects unrealistic results. Regardless of what you do in her class, she will criticize your work. I've honestly never worked harder in my life and I ended up with a C. If she assigned a report and you submitted someone else's work that was worthy of a pulitzer prize, she would give it a C. She's quite arrogant as well.
If you're a history major, then this class is for you. If you just need the credits, forget it. Bennett is not worth your time spending hours and hours out of class trying to pass.
She is a VERY hard teacher! She assigns a lot of work and expects you to be very thorough on your work. You cannot miss class either or she will screw you. Her tests are very long and the study guide is extensive. Would not recommend taking AT ALL.

Everyone who started this class ended up dropping. Thats how bad it was. Before I dropped I did some checking. Bennett tries to make everyone think shes so brilliant, but she hasn't written anything as a historian. You can check her professional page. Shes a fake. Very misunderstood...she is a bit rude and it can take some getting used to but its worth sticking out! She is passionate about the subject and isn't all that bad when you really get to know her. Its definitely a class you have to work for an A in though!
History major already taken many upper-division history courses. Enjoyed lectures, she brings a different and interesting opinion. Difficulty of tests doesn't match course level. Said herself it is a review course so we had to skim through, then expects in depth knowledge beyond anything discussed in class. Reminded me of weedout class at BYU.

Pretty tough teacher. She has super hard tests. She teaches well, but her tests are pretty tough, and there are a lot of quizzes and homework. You will learn a lot, but be prepared to put in a lot of overtime to studying.

She was an awful teacher. her tests are hard because she covers about 10% of the test in class. She is one of those professors that gives you about 4 classes worth of work each night, and expects you to just deal with it. She is abrasive and rude. She doesn't care about the student's success at all. A very biased woman.
Worst Prof I've EVER had EVER. Please do not take her class. She is rude, unhelpful, and really doesn't care at all. Workload is Ridiculous. Hard to believe they continue to keep her on the payroll.
Tough teacher-but good. Knows her subject inside and out. Tests were 100 MC questions. Weekly quizzes, class participation, seating mandatory. Read chapters, take notes, listen carefully and always attend class!!!

Amazing teacher, the toughest class I have taken, but I have never learned more! I went to class everyday and studied my butt off and was able to get an A-. She is well worth it if you want to learn and is more than willing to help you understand the chapters.

Lyn is the absolute worst teacher at UVU. I have had an A in pretty much every history class I've ever taken and I fear I will fail this one. It's a required class so honestly I'd be happy with a D- just so I can be on my way. Lyn is death, avoid her at all costs! Please learn from my mistake, run away from her like Europe did from the plague!!
I've had this teacher twice. Unrealistic and unreasonable expectations. You can never be right even if you are as there is only ever one right answer. Exceptionally unclear in expectations & then harsh when you don't meet them. Even more vague in response to questions. Over 32+pages of writing in one semester. Teacher from Hades avoid at all costs!
Dr. Bennet is HARD. But college is supposed to be hard, because so is life. She will work you and push you and require a lot from you and give extra assignments with little notice, just like life in the real world. I came out tired but loving history even more and even more determined to make it my career. Taught us how to really research.
The professor knows her stuff and the material. She's tough on the people who doesn't like history. If you like history you'll like her. You have to work hard for you grade and your grade is what you really earn in the class.
I had this professor a while ago. She was so rude. My class before hers was far on the other side of the school. She would not accommodate my lateness to class when we would have a quiz unless I showed her proof with my printed schedule. She used the class to preach her propaganda and if you question her on it, tells you to sit down and shut up.
Please do not take this Professor. I am sorry if you are required to take a class from her.

Her take home test are graded very harshly and very unclear, she will give quizzes on material she doesn't go over in class. The only way to pass this class with an A is to already know the material before going to her class. Don't Take her!!!

I like Dr. Bennett's personality and her lectures and class discussions were very interesting, but she bases her tests off of over a hundred terms from the textbook, very few of which are covered in class. Some terms only have one stupid sentence about them in the book, and lots you can't even find in the index. She expects photographic memories.

I cannot describe how difficult this class was. I would not suggest to take it unless you are a history buff. The exams and quizzes she requires you to take were impossible to pass no matter how great you are. Hope you have photographic memory for those 100+ terms my friend. Because she's not gonna narrow them down for anyone.
Amazing lectures. Difficult tests (multiple choice); use study guides & know EVERYTHING about each term. Ive never worked so hard for an A. If you talk to her shell help you as long as she feels like youre trying. Learned so much. Not recommended for non-history majors because its intense. Writing assignments are short- less than 1 page.
Lyn Bennet is an exceptional professor, especially if you're a history major. She is really tough, but it makes learning and remembering context really easy. She puts a lot of effort into her lectures and assignments, so if you put in the same amount of effort, you'll be set. It wasn't the easiest class but it taught me a lot and I enjoyed it.
I have learned more from her than any other teacher. Yes, she's a tough grader and expects perfection, but no one will prepare you better for what you need to do as a history major. As long as you go into the class knowing it will be super difficult and planning on working hard, you'll get through it. Don't take her if you want an easy A.
I loved Dr. Bennett! At first, I was hesitant, she can be a little intimidating. But I found myself looking forward to class every week. She is super passionate about history and really helps you to become a more well rounded historian if that's what you're going into. Tough grader, makes you work for your papers, super blunt personality!
Honestly one of the worst professors I've had. If you don't ABSOLUTELY love history then you're going to fail. If you don't know everything about the topic she's talking about, or couldn't understand the reading then she'll make you look like an idiot. Every class is pretty much the same... lecture after lecture.
Dr. Bennett was an amazing teacher, she cared about history and that we were actually learning. The class was hard but as long as you listen and focus you will pass! Her grading was slightly harsh but it helped me learn and improve.
She is the worst professor I 've ever had. Online class. Lectures consist of three slides with words on a picture background--I cannot read the words. Each weekly quiz has five questions, for which you get five minutes to answer. The midterms are fifty questions with fifty minutes to answer. Excruciatingly specific. I used to love history.
Teacher expects you to read her mind, even on the daily assignments it is hard to get full credit. The same goes for larger papers. She is also not constructive at all in her open criticism, and hardly has anything positive to say. By far the worst teacher I have ever had and I am on the cusp of graduating.
Lyn was a good professor. I can see what people are saying when they say she is a tough grader. I am actually appreciative of that fact because it forced me to read critically and write succinctly and clearly. Her lectures were quite good and I learned a lot. That said, it was a rigorous course with a lot of work and mundaneness.
Dr. Bennett is a nice lady, dont get me wrong; however, this was one of the worst general courses I have ever taken. Perhaps it was due to the online setting - but I did not enjoy it. She is very particular the way she grades, and if she doesnt like how you worded something in an essay or explanatory piece, you will be be docked.
The essays are work HEAVY & only 5 points. YOU ONLY GET 5 POINTS FOR EVERY ASSIGNMENT YOU DO. THE TESTS ARE 1 MIN PER QUESTION & 50 points. Which really screws you over if you have severe dyslexia/ADD like me. She was not kind about my assisted services note, asking for more time on tests. I have A's in my other classes, but this was a load of bull
The worst experience I have had at UVU. The inconsistent test schedules are awful and unreasonable. Make sure you read the fine print because a test may be due at 12:00 pm and not at 12:00 am like every other class ever. Aside from the weird scheduling the entirety of the material is just the textbook Dr. Bennett didn't do one second of teaching.
this was a terrible class. i would not recommend this class to anyone. it is strictly by the textbook and she doesn't actually teach anything herself. i have high A's in all my other classes and this class I had a C. don't take this class.
The class home page is unnavigable. Every week you will read roughly 80 pages of the textbook, 50 PP slides, videos, additional reading for papers, etc. The workload, if done fully, is easily double that of your average class. Nothing personal to Dr. Bennet, but it feels designed by someone who is not too savvy with tech. You will teach yourself.
(Also rated under Lyn Bennett) Her expectations on assignments were never very clear. It was difficult to please her, and this course was crazy heavy on the workload. I put in about 15 hours a week for this 3-credit hour class. I took this as an honors course, but it shouldn't have been this difficult. I wouldn't recommend her to my worst enemies.
She is the worst professor I have ever had, grades harsh, tests are unbelievably specific, her lectures are very hard to follow and unorganized, and she is insecure and enjoys giving out low grades to feel smarter than her students. My mom is a teacher who does not talk bad about other people, and even she believes this woman needs to be fired.
Does not actually teach the material. Gives reading, and very disorganized slides as material. No actual lectures from her uploaded, and any material outside of reading and occasional overfilled slides, are old videos that skew as outdated and vaguely racist.
If you're NOT interested in history (specifically, writing analytical papers about historical documents), this class will be tough. She gives detailed feedback but the writing expectations are very high for an undergrad class. My learning style was not compatible with her teaching style, but I do think I grew as a writer.. just not as a historian.
