Lynn is the man, well sort of, oh you get the point!

Probably a good proffesor for history classes, but assigns a great deal of work (ie: a book a week, a 2-page journal on each, and three other papers) so don't take her if you already have a difficult courseload and/or if you aren't a history major.
She's tough, she's sweet, she's smart, she's hyper, she's unlike anyone who you've met. Really.

She is tough but fair, and funny. She makes class interesting, her tests are essay and can be hard but she makes you learn the material. I didn't find that there was too much reading in this course, we had three books and two were only about 100 pages
Botelho is an awesome prof, and she treats you like a real person! Her skills are amazing.
She is Great! Fun, Interesting, Loves to teach history... It's just like Storytime! No required textbook only short novels...Much fuN!
Lynn is the best! So energetic, she really made me like history. Always willing to help you out on anything be it her class, another class, recommendations, scheduling, personal life, anything. A really really great prof.
She rocks.
The most fantastic prof I've ever had. It's a ton of work, but so much fun- I've never learned so much from a class in my entire life. Take her classes if you ever get a chance - I know I'll be taking her again.
Best prof for this class at IUP by far. She actually had a personality despite the losers in the class that made it hard for her. I should have got an A but I got a B because I didnt really do anything at all outside of class. Great prof with min workload
Yay for our mommy! I love you, Lynn! She props you up in class when you start to fall asleep, teaching you the "real" way to do it in college. Puts up with us. Find a good topic for thesis paper, though, not economics and witches.
great teacher
Completely awesome. She makes history come alive, but she is tough.
2000 years of history in 10 weeks. Not tough with Dr. Bothello. In her class history comes alive. After attending both oxford and cambridge, Dr. Bothello is a first rate historian who will pass her passion for history on to you. Best I've had at IUP!
Expects too much and plays favorites.
the best prof. i've had at IUP by far. Insane sense of humor... really gets the class involved. If you can take the workload, you've got to take her class.
You will work hard but you'll never think the same way again.

Dr. Botelho is fun and smart and all that, but the problem is that everyone knows it. Everyone becomes a teacher's pet in her core class and it can be annoying. You'll certainly learn though. Plenty of reading and 2 page papers every night. I reccomend her if you can stomach suck-ups.
She has you write two-page papers every night. But once it's been a few days you get into the routine of it, and it makes you better for it. She is fun, and eats your food, but she often lets the discussion drag on forever. When you have lameos in your class, that sucks.
Difficult Class, you will have to write 2-4 pages a night. However, you will learn so much in this class and will become a much better thinker, writer, and speaker. She is very smart and funny, a fairly laid back class, but intellectully stumulating.
she is so awesome. i absolutely do not like history, but every class i went to i was intrigued by the information she was discussing. she is hilarious and makes you crack up in class. three ten page papers, but no tests and if you can write a persuasive paper, your fine. TAKE HER
She is very interesting but also very elitist. She takes comments very personally. Don't offend her or you'll be sorry.
You cannot go through the honors college without taking her core class. Absolutely the best history teacher I've ever had. Passionate. Very much so wants you to understand and do well. Great personality: laid back, fun, entertaining, yet serious. You'll work. But you'll have fun.
VERY HARD!!! HER GRADING SUCKS!!
VERY HARD NOT HELPFUL
Lynn is crazy.. for history 195 you have to read three huge novels, which suck! Her tests are stupid, and she grades your essays depending on basically how she feels that day. She's unclear, and her lectures make no sense. AVOID THIS TEACHER IF POSSIBLE
Makes the subject fun to study and keeps you interested. Provides a different perspective on things. Lots of work and writing. she also expects you to improve a lot by the end. I left the class with greatly improved skills in presenting my ideas both verbally and in writing. definitly a MUST TAKE
she's a really fun teacher. i dont fall asleep in her class, and she tells you some cool facts about history. you have to read three big books, but if ur left with three hard professors, might as well take one that is fun and eats your food!
She can interst you in any topic by her enthusiasm and teaching methods.
She definitly has a personality and will let you know if you're being an igmo (you'll learn all about that) Fun prof, hard tests, 3 books that gennerally arn't the most interesting, but she makes coming to class worth it.
enthusiastic, endearing and hilarious professor. grades with fairness, despite what is said below. she makes the lecture time fly by and class is easy to attend. just sit and listen (take notes too, of course).
Nice to look at!!!!! Extremely intelligent. I learned more about history in college from her than anyone else, including Godt! Very nice, met her for drinks, and just plain interesting. LOVED HER!! :)
VERY VERY VERY DIFFICULT... but you actually learn useful knowledge. Let her know if you need help. She'll help you.
FABULOUS teacher. I hate history, but I loved it with her. She is not only brilliant, she could totally be a stand-up comic. Makes history come alive with her passion. LOVE HER!
amazing. i love her. she's freakin brilliant and will push you to do your best. amazing teacher.
coolest chick ever.
She's ... a character. Will keep you on your toes. She has some interesting things to say and is very fiesty. Absolutly loves history and it shows. Even if you don't you'll be able to stay awake in Lynn's class.
Great prof.
THIS CLASS WAS HORRIBLE!!! DO NOT TAKE HER!!! I already didn't like history, she made me hate it even more, which I didn't think was possible. I have never hated a class so bad in my life. She makes it impossible to pass and doesn't make sense when she talks. Doesn't know how to grade essays either.
As long as you show up and take notes then class wont be so hard. Her tests are sometimes confusing but she'll help you out. I had a night class with her and it was very easy and shes easy to get along with. A fun teacher who was easy to get along with and easy to talk to. Made history fun. Only thing that was hard was reading the assigned books.
If you take notes during her lectures and read the books, you should be fine in the class.
A really great professor. She's very intelligent, knows her history, and expects a lot, but if you work hard to impress her, you will learn more than in any other class on campus. Take her class and you will learn from one of the best.
One of the coolest and most fun professors out there. Not to mention that she's absolutely brilliant. Likes to eat students' food, is very high energy, and respects students who earn it.
She's...Dr. Botelho. My 1st core unit, hardest too. Don't let her scare you, she's nice and wants you to succeed. Participate in class, read the books, see her if you're not doing well, then you'll do great. While she's a tough nut, I learned more from her than any other prof, so while I'd recomend her for personal gain-never for an easy class.
Dr. B is a great prof. You read short novels, not a text book and instead of multiple choice tests, you write essays. It was an amazing class and she's a genius!
Best prof I ever had
Very nice teacher! Seems kind of crazy at first, but really makes class fun and interesting. Easy class if you do not mind writing essays. Definatly recommend!!!
I was dreading this class but she made it fun. There is no textbook, just small novels. All of her tests are take home essays. She's a cool lady
She rocks!
Awesome teacher. I absolutely hate history, but I can deal with this class. You don't have a textbook, just 3 shorts novels, which are pretty interesting anyway. She gives you a week to do the essays, maybe even longer. Funny and energenic, but don't walk into her class late buddy. Seriously great though
Overall a decent teacher. Her lectures are all oral, with very little use of visual aids, so you have to listen. Attendance is worth 10% of grade. Tests are all take home essays, which you have 1 week to do. she can grade essays a little tough sometimes. However, DO NOT wait until the last minute to read the books, or write your essays.
SHES THE BEST TEACHER AT THIS UNIVERSITY
no tests-just six page essay's. counts for attendence... personally i'd rather take a test than write four six page essays---if you don't mind essays and hate tests, take it... what she lectures can be interesting...but most of it you don't even need to know for the essay's. she does one question on lecture and one question on the short novel.
She's a brilliant professor. I learned so much in her class. I would highly recommend LB for any student who truly wants to learn because you will, it's impossible not to learn in her class. She revealed a love for history I was unaware I had. She is a very interesting person and I am pleased I took her class.
Her class (Renaissance & Reformation) was very interesting. Her tests are essays, and even though I received good grades, they were very tough to do. And you might not want her as a professor if you don't like to read...you will read a LOT for her. But she kept things interesting, overall a terrific professor. Never a boring lecture.
Hated her class. Was not interesting at all. She was helpful if you went to office hours but her essays were hard. Did not like her at all!!
Three exams and attendance is your grade. This class is very difficult even if you attend EVERY one.
She is so funny. I love her class. I personally hate history with a passion but she's crazy.. in a good way. She must have changed how she does class cause my class just has 3 scantron tests and 3 books we have to read. There's no essays. A little difficult because she doesn't put notes up on the p drive or webct. But not too hard.
only have to buy three paper back novels for her class attendance boots your grade almost a full letter if you have perfect attendance. only three test not easy but manage able if you take decent notes.
Hated this class, I went to her office hours for help and read the book in the library and still failed the tests, she basically doesn't care what you get and her lectures are nothing like the tests
the first day of class she will tell you this is a tough class. her tests are scantron with no essay. they include three books that you NEED TO READ to do well on the tests. you buy a workbook which outlines all her lectures so you have the topics to study outside of class if needed. i really enjoyed her :) easy class if you pay attention and read.
SHE IS VERY FUNNY....LIKE THE LADY IS CRAZY BUT SHE KEEP YOU VERY INTERESTED INTO THE CLASS....SO IS VERY HELPFUL...EVERYONE SAY SHE IS HARD. SHE IS NOT HARD IF YOU GO TO CLASS EVERYDAY AND READ....THE NOVELS SHE ASSIGN...IF YOU DO THAT AND COMPLETE UR ESSAYS YOU SHOULD PASS THE CLASS....
DR. BOTELLO IS A VERY INTERESTING TEACHER. SHE IS FUNNY AND CRAZY BUT I WAS NEVER BORED IN HER CLASS. THE BEST ADVICE IS TO GO TO CLASS EVERYDAY....BUY THE NOVELS AND READ THEM!!!! MAKE SURE YOU COMPLETE YOUR ESSAYS ON TIME AND HAND THEM IN...IF YOU DO THEN YOU WILL DEF. PASS THIS CLASS.
3 tests, and thats your only grades. She uses no power points, no notes on the board, just stands in front of the class and rambles. Good luck trying to figure out what is important to take notes on because she talks a mile a minute. She is useless in office hours, she will just make you look stupid.
Dr. Botelho is completely amazing. If you take her for Core, be prepared for a lot of work, but a lot of great discussion and some new perspectives on the world. Yes, it's a lot of reading and writing (five 2-page papers a week) but the class is worth it. As a bonus, she's quite a character and tells hilarious stories about her life.
No textbook, just packet from copys plus. if u have a big class her tests are straight multiple choice. ur grade makes up of 10% attendance, 90% exams. class is straight lecture; no notes on the board or overhead at ALL, and she rambles off topic all the time. required to read 3 of the worst books ever prior the tests. no study guides... impossible
I'm pretty sure she's done with the honors college for a while, but if she comes back, do not hesitate to take her course. It's a LOT of reading and writing, but you will be glad you took the class. Botelho is hilarious, congenial, and down to earth. She doesn't treat you like babies, but instead helps you to grow and learn. A+ professor.
She rambles on and thinks she is brilliant. The textbook is little, read it. Your notes and propacket dont help. Grade is only on the exams with the three books you have to read. Exams are hard and have RIDICULIOUS answers. She travels a lot and misses class. She'll take you're food and cell
very cool teacher, interesting woman but is very busy with outside distractions, so pretty useless outside of class. Tests are hard and make sure you read the three novels!!
The comment below is exactly right, but she is a very smart woman. You can really learn a lot in this class. Though the tests are quite impossible and like the kid before me said RIDICULOUS answers to test questions, I did enjoy her class. She keeps things interesting. I took it as a junior so the work load was okay, if you're a freshman dont.
Botelho is my favorite professor on campus. She's brilliant, hilarious and incredibly entertaining. She has you read material in the textbook so that she can focus on more interesting things during her lectures. She is very helpful when it comes to the papers, and she grades fairly. If you get the chance, take her classes.
Great lady, one of my favorites yet. The class is difficult if you don't read the book but that is to be expected. Course is required so might as well get a good teacher.
She is not a good professor...She is very very hard...Her tests are insane...I wish you the best of luck...
She is a very entertaining individual. Her tests are easy as long as you do the study guide (which is the test without the answers) and attend the lectures.
This class was well interesting. I never knew what she was saying cause she talks quietly and really fast. She gave us all of the questions for our exam so you don't really need to read anything. The course was easy but really boring. She's crazy and rambles, but it's an easy class.
Lynn rocks. She is hilarious and extremely intelligent. Although the course is difficult and there is a lot of material to handle, she helps you out if you put in the work. Don't take this course unless you are willing to work, hard! It is worth it, though.
As a person, she is a bit peculiar, interesting, and nice. In this class there are 3 books to read, along with the text book! It was one of the more pleasant history classes I have taken. She gives you a study guide for the exam with basically all of the questions on it, and there are only 4 exams. It's pretty difficult to not get a decent grade.
Lynn is a great professor! I loved her class. Her personality is awesome. Be prepared to take a lot of notes. If you take a decent amount and go to class, you'll pass. Read all 3 of the books because there's questions on the exam. She gives you the exam without the answers as a study guide. I will definitley be takng another class with her.
She's a completely awesome teacher. There's A LOT of work that is required though. Three- four page long book reviews (which aren't nearly as bad as you'd think), 10-12 page mid-term, and a 10-12 page final. Take as many notes as possible because you'll need them for the mid-terms and finals. I loved this class.
Lynn is one of the hardest professor in IUP. Test are ridiculously hard beside it is difficult to understand what she is saying because she talk very fast. useless in her office hours because she is not interested in her students. Dont take her she is really hard
Botelho is absolutely brilliant. If you're passionate about history, and you aren't a slacker, you will do well in her classes. She is always willing to help her students and goes above and beyond to do so. She is by far my favourite professor on campus, and I highly recommend taking her classes.
Very accomplished, and very intelligent. If you skip class you are screwed.
Gave all the questions to tests beforehand, other assignments were not very hard. Other teachers for this course are far easier, but she still is worth taking.
Does make history interesting, but notes can be difficult to take because she talks very fast. My only real complaint is that the study guides that she gives you with the test questions are tricky and can easily throw you off without her answer choices. She is funny though. And attendence is very important!
she's cool
DECENT prof if you can't get somebody better. her tests were online for my class, a positive, but the study guides are confusing. i only got a B cause i worked my butt off. go to class, take notes as best you can. it can be hard -she talks VERY fast. dont let her charisma fool you either, shes a hard ass. bit condescending. very accomplished tho.
Took Ren/Ref even though she is extremely intimidating. This class was a challenge, she's pretty tough,& sometimes talks too fast, but I'm so glad I took her for this course. She's extremely intelligent &has a passion for teaching. She taught me not only valuable history info but also great lessons on writing for my other classes & life lessons!
Quite easily the worst professor I have ever had. Pompous, arrogant, she takes every opportunity to stop a class to talk down to someone, constantly talks about her personal life and experience. Adds irrelevant personal stories to lecture. Expects outrageous depth in papers. Horrible teacher, rude to students, just don't take this class.
Very animated and enthusiastic prof, lectures are never boring. Tests are all online and gives you the exact test questions a week ahead of time. Read the chapters in the book to find the answers, they're word for word from the book. Also had to read 2 novels based in the same time period as the class and 4 diary readings. Overall fun class.
Not the best professor; she goes abroad a lot which seems nice at first but it created a lot of issues. This is a class that really takes more work than you would think. She sometimes gets off topic during lectures and talks very fast. Overall a very frustrating class. Take another professor if you have the option to.
She's a tough grader but it's a good thing. She makes you a better writer and critical thinker. She does talk very fast but if you're a good note taker you'll be fine. Midterm is a little crazy with what she has you write. Overall, she's a great professor and I will take a class with her again in a heartbeat.
She's a tough grader but a good teacher. Just do what she asks of you and don't half ass it or else you won't pass.
awesome professor. Willing to help whenever asked.
Best professor I could of had. I wish I was a history major just so I could have her again. She is super helpful, very friendly, and makes lecture not that much of a hassle. For the exams (on D2L) all the answers were in the book which she gave you a study guide beforehand so you have all the answers before you take the test.
Fantastic teacher! She is really funny and her lectures really pull you in. She gives tons of extra credit which is helpful because the exams are a little tricky. The homework assignments and responses are a must, because if you dont do it, you wont pass the class.
Don't get me wrong, she's nice. But she rambles. A LOT. And when test time comes, yeah it's online and you get a study guide, but a lot of them could be self interpretative and you have to dig through the book. She also grades ridiculously. Just because someone has personality, doesn't make them a great teacher. I found her annoying.
She's very enthusiastic, but she does seem to brag and ramble on; she tries too hard to relate to her students. I don't find her class to be all that hard, as long as you do the work on time and with diligence, you should be fine. She definitely makes history seem more interesting.
I LOVED Dr. Botehlo. She is very straight forward and isn't afraid to call you out if you aren't paying attention. Her class is both lecture and book heavy, but neither are boring. She covers the basics in class, but all the details you need are in the book. You won't pass without the book. You have so many opportunities for easy points.
This class is definitely geared towards freshman to help them learn to succeed in college. Tries to make the class as interesting as possible and she really knows the info. All exams are online and you get 2 attempts. Study guide given week before exam and has all the questions on exam you just have to use the book and slides to find the answers.
I recommend this professor to all of my friends that are taking their history requirement. Her class is very straightforward, and its geared towards freshman. She wants to see you succeed. Her tests are easy, she gives you the questions a week in advance and you just have to find the answers by looking through the slides. Non-cumulative final exam.
As an online professor, she was very good at being clear about her expectations from the starts. She offered many opportunities to excel in her class.
Dr. Botelho is a great lady. She supplies power points and her study guide questions are the exact questions on the exam. She offers a bunch of extra credit and gives great feedback. No reason you shouldn't get an A!
She has both positives and negatives. She provides materials for the exam and they are online. Class has 4 exams, 2 book essays, 3 movies and 2 discussions. The negatives are she talks way to fast and she hates when students ask her questions. She will often answer in a stop wasting my time way. She's not bad, I just find her annoying and rude
She is ok. She talks too much about herself and all of her stuff that she does outside of being a professor. Sometimes it seems like this is her side job. Class is boring she just rambles on talking about the slides and then how things were in London when she was there. Take her if you have to, but if your someone who gets annoyed easily, don't
She is annoying. She talks way to fast and most of what she says doesn't make sense. everything is about her, constantly talking about her fencing and all the other stuff she does. I thought I was going to like her, but I don't. The class isn't too bad tho, but it's almost like she doesn't care about her job
She was okay. Not a hard class at all but she gets very distracted and talks about all over her other activities that she does outside of school. If you ask her a question she will either not answer it or just kinda brush past it. She is nice tho which made coming to class enjoyable. I would take her again but she's definitely not a favorite
fantastic professor. presents powerpoints in class but she explains everything in depth. You do not have to take notes but you do have to be engaged to succeed in this class. the assignments fully revolve around you, meaning that you must keep up with deadlines on your own. all of her assignments and tests are online, and expect to read 2-3 books.
I took Professor Botelho for my freshman European History course after having her recommended to me by someone else. Already being slightly into history, I was excited to take the course and she just made it even better. As a freshman, she gives you helpful tips and hacks. If you do your work and put in a decent effort, easy A.
Dr. Botelho has some really long lectures but they're all relatively interesting. She only assigns a few papers throughout the course. As long as you show up and complete the online tests and papers, you should pass with no problem.
Dr. Botelho is generally a good professor. If you are a person who likes to take notes during lecture, DO NOT take her. She talks very fast and goes through slideshows extremely fast. Her tests are hard and time-limited. A few essays here and there and other activities, but they aren't too hard. Attendance is MANDATORY. Overall, she's cool.
She loves history and always gets very into her lectures. Her class isnt easy but if you go to class and pay attention you will do well. Her tests are not easy but they are online so that makes up for it a little.
Firstly, her powerpoints are trash. Too long, messy, have zero direction, and not concise whatsoever. Studying is nearly impossible. Talks like she's whispering but 10x faster than you would normally speak. There is 0 class work w graded points. You basically have to sit & listen to her ramble about random powerpoints to get your attendance grade.
Pretty easy class so long as you go over the material before the exams. There were times where I felt the lectures were a bit sporadic, and Dr. Botelho has a sort of "in your face" method of teaching, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. It just further shows how much her work means to her. Real solid course overall.
She is so amazing!!!!!! Her class was more based on discussions rather than lectures. We did have weekly journals and readings but they were not that long and easy to understand. The only thing I did not enjoy was she was not very clear on her expectations of what she wanted to see in the projects. Truly an amazing prof tho! in my top 5 profs
Dr. Botelho is by far my least favorite professor. While her class is interesting, her ego is a huge issue. Shes the biggest hypocrite Ive met. She expects from you what she will not provide herself. Attendance is mandatory which would be okay if her class wasnt just based off of a scatterbrained PowerPoint everyday. Tests/pwrpts have typos
She is very well prepared and shows you everything you will need to do for the whole semester. There are a lot of essays on very boring books/movies. As long as you keep up with the work you will do fine.
I am on the fence about her. She is very all over the place and I never quite get what she is teaching sometimes. The tests make no sense and no matter what notes I take every class, they do not help for whatever is on it. Sweet and funny woman, but would not want her again. The movies and book essays were okay. Do the work and you'll pass enough.
The exam questions come right from the study guide, I got As and Bs on every assignment with minimal outside work, but almost a third of the points for the class are for attendance. The classes don't teach much outside of the book so its a little ridiculous to give someone who does well a bad grade, just because they didn't go to the lectures.
Is an easy class but requires you to write a few essays on books. Grades critically on criteria, and what she wants you to answer directly. Gives study guides for tests which are exact questions but take so long to do, answers are hard to find in powerpoints. If you go to class and can catch a solid amount of the stuff she goes through you got it.
I really loved Dr. B. She is a very caring professor. She tries to make the discussions interesting and makes you think outside the box. Class is easy, 2-3 page journals, and 4-5 projects. Super easy class and amazing professor.
Took Big Ideas, very interesting and down to earth person, very free flowing lectures which are very easy to contribute to. very easy grader, I turned in something late and not done quite correctly and got an 83 on it. There are quite a few group projects/presentations, but this class feels very "highschool" to me so it wasn't at all nervewracking
If you hate participation and are looking for an easy A Dr. B isn't the way to go. She is challenging in the ways college should be and wants to see everyone succeed. Her outgoingness can be overwhelming for some, but she genuinely wants to better herself and her classes through discussion. She is very understanding and wants the best for everyone.
