This porfessor was extremly disorganized in her thoughts and presentation. She is the worst teacher that I have every had. I you are thinking about taking this professor...DON'T!!! I you are thinking of dropping the course...DO!!!
This teacher is quite possibly the worst I've ever had and that's hard to say. Who wants a teacher that actually WHINES when the class asks her to show an entire problem for them from start to finish! And if you need a calculator to figure any math run
She's ok. She just needs to be more enthusiastic on teaching. She's kind of boring. Tests come from the HW. They're pretty easy.
The reason people might believe she's really difficult is that she ecspects the student to fully understand the fundamentals, so she dose'nt explain processes step by step.
First, one has to remember that it is a math class, by no means is it fun. The teacher is very helpful she always offers her time for studnets to further help those who needed it. She is very good at explaining the material.
This lady is tired of teaching. She is lazy and often late to class. Many students drop her class every semester because she sucks!!! I would not recommend this teacher. She talks above the students and does not have time for questions in class.DNT!
she goes too fast.
She knows what she's talking about, but her constant crazy comments and bursts of psycho laughter make it hard to pay attention. But she knows how to explain Math.
She goes too fast and loves to skip steps and expect you to automatically know what the hell she is talking about. Laugh at her stupid remarks and is very impatient. Must do your homework to pass, unless you are good in math
She don't know what she is talking about. some times she will laugh at her own jokes. she will make everything hard for you. DON'T TAKE HER IF YOU WANNA "F" THEN TAKE HER and yeah she don't like to stand up and teach, she alway want to sit.
Not to bad, she is usually late for class and you can't use a calc on most tests. She does curve the tests thought. Sometimes you might think she is crazy with her little outbursts of laughter and what not. I would reccomend someone else if you can.
I took her as well as my boyfriend for Trig and neither of us liked her. She is always late, never wants to answer questions. She didn't her class use a calc on tests. DON"T TAKE HER!
I felt the material on the test did not reflect the work we covered in class
No Comments
ALWAYS late... but she gave extra-credit whenever she was. Pick someone else if you can, but she isn't as bad as most math teachers.
Good teacher, explains concepts thourouly, and knows what she talking about. Can get a solid grade if you study.Don't take during the summer. You will regret it!
Great teacher! She explains the concepts clearly and is always willing to help during her office hours. She does a great job preparing students for tests by suggesting practice problems and study tips. You will learn in her class.
Not a very good teacher. Bad teaching style. Doesn't let you use a calc on a lot of tests. I recommend taking someone else.
She was a great teacher, had the course nicely outlined and explained her actions. She was willing to work with students on anything. Always late for class, it was nice!
Shes a meany. No one ever asks questions in our class because she either doesn't answer it or makes you feel stupid. Her usual responses are "you should know that already!", I ecpect you to have known that!", and shes always late. Really rude teacher.
Good class. You must do homework if you want to pass. Get the solution manual as textbook is awful. Explains info very quickly. 6-8 quizzes, 4 tests, and 1 final. Gives review for each test. If you don't do homework, this is not for you. Are we there? is one of her favorite sayings.
She is not very clear, always late. Skips steps in the problems and says we should know how to do it. If a question is asked, tells the student it is a stupid question and won't answer it.
she knows her stuff, but speaks 100X faster than anyones can think, write or understand. I would only recomend this class to someone if they planed to video tape each class and watch the tapes a few times, but I dont think she allows that.
Terrible teacher. Very unclear about concepts and topics in Algebra. Refers to the keys on the calculator as people. If you love math and still want to, do not take this class. She will make you despise it. Rude to students, doesn't answer questions, and very confusing. Do NOT Take Hearn!
Ms. Hearn is great teacher. She challenges her students to think. She offers study tips and is always willling to help. Just study and do your homework. She gives you practice problems before tests, so you know exactly what's coming. Best of all, you'll leave her class a little more educated.
"refers to the keys on the calculator as people" What a stupid reason to criticize her. She might say "the pi guy is next to the tan guy." So What! You must be some kind of a genius. Why don't you quit school and go back to McDonalds where you belong?
Bad Teacher..Bad...she is burnt out. Should've retired yesterday. Just take her first test you'll see.
hard teacher, hard tests, most of the students are failling over all don't take her class....
amazing teacher. is always willing to help her students as long as they ask for help. Expects students to have a foundation in math but will answer any questions. Take this teacher i have an A in her class and i suck at math
Hard Teacher. The quizes and testes are a joke. Gives you tons of homework and thinks you should know everything after you done it. She's not very helpful.
She teaches very fast and doesn't show all the steps in the middle....so to say the least I loved her. I like the fact that she moved rapidly but I know some students were being left behind, but she will help you out if you ask. Its like any other class just ask questions don't sit there and twiddle yer thumbs.
If you can handle a fast pace class...then this class is for you. She teaches fast but I think it was because I took her in the summer semester. The final exam is almost identical to the final review that she hands out. If you wanna pass the class, STUDY that final review handout!
She is always late, and she talks too fast, and she's rude, and she's always out of breath, but she's really not that bad of a teacher.
WORSE TEACHER AT VCC STAY AWAY, YOU'VE BEEN WARNED
This is a teacher for those who enjoy math and understand it. Too bad, so sad if you "don't get it." You really do have to work, but it will be worth it. AND she is willing to help you!!! Very willing! She's super nice and a good teacher. Take her if you can handle math!
worse teacher in the US. Congratulations mrs Hearn. And this comes from a good student!
This class is mostly for people who have a GOOD foundation in math. She expects that, but she will answer ANY question if you have one, you just have to ask. She is GREAT teacher and always willing to help, but she does move fast. YOU HAVE TO STUDY! But thats any math class! If you expect to sleep through this class and get an A then your WRONG!
She does explain problems quickly. However, she will help you if you ask. She gives partial credit on test and is very generous with curves. Also offers extra credit. I was afraid to take her after reading the other reviews on here, but I actually liked her and I'm an average student in math.
she kept talkin about how she didnt wana teach a class that low she usually taught higher classes& so went through everythin really quickly,2examples at most &she expected everyone 2know it.she doesnt really want to help, just explains it the same way she did b4 and talks down to you. if you dont understand something she tells you 2 read the book!
This is one of the best math professors I have ever had! I am an average math student usually B's maybe a C here and there. In this class I am going to get an A. She is a very good professor and always trys the simplest way to explain things. If you have any questions shes always willing to answer them. Also she provides a good study guides.
VERY HARD TEACH, TAKE PNTS OFF CUZ SMALL THINGS AND DOESN'T HAVE THE PATIENCE TO EXPLAIN THINGS TO YOU. THUMBS DOWN! DOESN'T SEEM TO HAVE PATIENCE AT ALL WITH FOREIGN STUDENTS. SHE'S ACTUALLY VERY RUDE W/ THEM! @ THE BEGININ OF CLASS SHE MADE A DISCRIMINATING COMMENT ABOUT FOREIGN STUDENTS "STEALING" OUR MATH AND BRINGING BACK TO THEIR COUNTRY!BIZZ
Hard hard hard hard hard hard hard hard hard hard
great teacher. ended with a 103A. gives lost of extra credit, makes homework easy. very very very good, take her if you want an easy grade. have to be pretty unintelligent not to pass this class.=)
Not the EASIEST professor, but not the hardest, either. She's very fun-loving and easy to get along with. Tests are pretty straightforward, and there are two, more difficult, take-home tests.
This is a great teacher. Lots of extra credit and she grades on a curve. I got an A in her TRIG and Algerbra class, would have taken her for Calc I if I could. One of the most forgiving teachers there is.
thinks you should already know everything
This wasn't an easy class. Even though she does grade on a curve, and does a make-up test; it's pretty hard stuff if your easily confused with math. If you hated trig, you'll hate the fact that she throws Trig into basically everything. Sometimes when she teaches she goes off on a tangent. Becareful.
Prof. Hearn is an excellent professor. I took her Trig class and liked her so much that I took the Calc 1 class with her too. I earned an "A" in both classes. She was also very understanding when I had some family issues to deal with. Prof. Hearn is a true professional in my book!
She is very nice.Very generous when it come to grading. She understands that calculas is a different math approach. She does good curving. She is always in her office during her hours. Very-very helpfull lady.Gives you a lot of oportunities for the extra credit. If you are not lazy and know your trigonometry prior coming to her class you will do well !
I fear for the future of America knowing that people who make it through her class will get jobs in engineering. She gives "A" s to people who should get "C"s. Way too much extra credit given out. Hopefully most who get through her class get real instructors in calculus who will actually fail people.
Tries to keep an interesting and fast moving class, does get lose people at times, but if you ask for help more then willing to provide it.
she is a good professor likes helping her students
prof hearn is a pretty good teacher. she tries to be helpful and laughs at her own jokes alot...mostly by herself..not the best but not the worst either...
She is a great professor. She gives ALOT of extra credit, and she also helps her students(during and during her office hours). Just do your homework and you will make an A.
Lynn is a VERY helpful teacher. If you participate in class and interact with her she is extremely fun. Does require you to know a lot of formulas but it is trig so that's a given. Show up to class, take and study your notes, and you've basically passed the class. She does a really good job of helping you understand where formulas come from.
Professor Hearn is awsome. i had her for trig and calc II. she loves math and she is very enthusiastic about teaching it. she will keep you awake and intrested in class. she is very helpful. knows the subject well. you need to do hw and if you do you will pass with a good grade. and plus she curves...what else would you want?
I took her Trig class and unbelievably got an A. The math is difficult, but she's a great teacher! She doesn't mind answering questions and she explains everything very clearly. Her expectations are reasonable as well. You won't feel unprepared for a test. One of the best math teachers I've ever had.
I didn't like her at all, she always come up with the exercise and it doesn't look like the ones on the textbook, doesn't give you any review for the test and only explain one difficult exercise for each chapter, I would rather take another teacher if available...
Fantastic Teacher!! She goes the extra mile to help you. She gives a lot of extra credit, and is so willing to help her students do well. She really wants you to understand the material and dosnt mind doing a problem over and over until you undertand it. I would take her again for sure. The only bad thing is that she dosnt let u use ur calculator.
Good: sometimes she curves test grades, easy quiz, some extra credit opportunities, answers HW questions, and verry willing to help. Bad: difficult tests, no review for the test, and skips some parts in the chapter.
SHE IS OKAY..not the greatest...not the worst..she teaches very well when she wants and other times she can just be all over the place...but i think there are better teachers out there
She is a very scattered teacher, and is not always clear, and can sometimes leave you confused (happens often). There will be times when she teaches really well, but it goes and comes. But if you do ALL your homework you'll do fine. She give A LOT of extra credit opportunities to help boost your grade, which helps TREMENDOUSLY!
She is a nice professor (i.e. lots of extra credit, usually willing to help), but she her tests are very difficult. Her reviews don't match anything on the tests and the book never helps when studying. In class, she is very somewhat easy to follow, but once you lose her, you're doomed.
Worst prof there is.doesn't explain anything and makes you feel stupid if you ask her a question. Tests are impossible. You basicly have to teach yourself everything cause she doesn't do anything but confuse you and bore you
i hate her. i think she's useless and she's confusing. i've always been an A B student and math has NEVER been an issue for me. i hate her. i hate how she doesn't work anything out ..and i just hate her teaching styles because SHE CANNOT TEACH!
Very good professor. Trigonometry is not an easy subject to teach, and in my opinion, she does a good job. If you pay attention, do the homework and the review problems before the test, you should do fine. If you don't understand, she might get a little frustrated, but she is always willing to help. I'll definitely take her again for Calculus.
she is a very nice person, and she gives ALOT of extra credit and curves. BUT she isn't that great at teaching, it's kind of hard to understand he because she's more of a "visual" person and also she throws a lot of curveballs on the tests. if you study, pay attention, and do the homework you'll be fine
She is a very sweet person and is always willing to help, if you need it. She goes over the chapters in class and makes sure you understand. She gives no homework and gives alot of extra credit. She gives very good study questions before the tests. She also curves the tests, so as long as you pay attention and come to class, it will be easy.
Horrible teacher. Shes a good person and knows the material but has no idea how to teach. Tests are hard because you have no time to complete it, no required homework, like 2 points of extra credit available, she does curve the tests because everyone fails and the curve still doesn't help.
I liked her. She's not very interesting but makes sure you get why that equation is that way. She does alot of explaining and I thought she was very patient with the whole class and anyone who had gotten lost. She reviews before tests so you know what material but her tests are quite long.
Her class was so hard. She's unorganized and doesn't use notes, just teaches from the top of her head. She jumps from one subject to the next. DO NOT take her if you're bad at math. Your grade is based on 4 test, the final and like 10 quizzes. So, if you suck at math, you're screwed.
Not a good teacher to take if you need a professor to explain things more than once. She jumps all over the book when just explaining one thing so it's hard to understand her. She is nice, and will try to help you.
Professor Hearn has a genuine interest in each one of her students. She is extremely liberal with her grading and tries to give as many points as she can rightfully award. I had a hard time with this subject, but Professor Hearn's one on one help and peer-group projects allowed ample opportunity for improvement. She was a great teacher!
She explains things very thoroughly and will help you understand why things are the way they are. Lots of extra credit opportunities and grade is based on 4 tests, a bunch of easy quizzes and the final. Curves every test by a bunch of points.
She is very energetic about teaching this subject, which can come across as scatter-brained, but she knows what she's talking about! She's very nice, offers lots of bonus points, and curves the tests! If you're not good at math you might struggle because the material is hard, not because she's a bad teacher. Take her classes if they're available!
looking to scrape through trig w/9 point curves, bonuses & e.c. take Prof. Hearn. If you're looking to learn trig FUH-GAT-A'BOUT-IT! stands at the board solving problems as if you understand trig like she does. when the class is totally confused she turns to the class with her hands on her hips asks how do you not understand this? still got an A
Gives a lot of extra credit! uses 75% of quiz grades (which are really easy) as a test grade. She doesn't let you just skate by. She doesn't collect HW but you have to do it if you want to do well on the test. I had to study a lot to do well and I'm good at math. Doesn't take off points for attendance.
Hearn's a great teacher. Learned a lot in her class. Assigns great test reviews & plenty of bonus credit. She is happy and energetic, I love it! However, some of her tests are too long; you're unable to check your answers; you get one try. Do the reviews, and all the hw and understand it & you'll do great in her class. Math = practice! she's nice!
If you are new to Trig like I was the material takes awhile to get used to. Get used to it fast because she expects you to learn it quick. Look over the textbook after lessons its really helpful. She curves some of the tests which help alot and there is only some extra credit that helps you at the end of the semester. She does test reviews.
If you can't learn without examples, Prof. Hearn is not the prof to take. She doesn't explain anything well and she sits down the whole class and uses the projector to teach. She is nice and trys to help but was not very helpful. She curves the test and has extra credit but the class is verrryy difficult.
You'll have to work for your A. I have a 91%, so it's possible. 4 tests, sporadic quizzes, and extra credit. Curves tests every time by 9-11pts. Do the homework and complete the practice problems she gives before the tests. Moderate class, but she is a nice lady. Take the tests seriously 80% of grade. No Trig teacher is that good at VCC. Good Luck
She is a great teacher, if your doing calc2 there isn?t an easy option. She is as good as it gets she loves her trig but takes care of you with extra credit and take home quizzes. But she is super cool, Cal2 means hard so don?t be a slacker do the Hw and you?ll succeed
A very nice lady who is good at teaching classical style math to students who grasp math fairly easily. In other words, problems on the board, copy them down & heavy textbook use. If you are new to Trig, then a more enigmatic professor would be a better choice because she doesn't have a lot of time to always explain things for the non-math types.
She's helpful. Sometimes she goes wicked fast through chapters/examples, so make sure you read the chapter and practice before class so you can keep up with the little tricks she shows you. Extra credit, take home quizzes, take home exam portions, what more could you want in Calc 2?
Teaches so fast, tests every weak with some quizzes and hw's. Not clear in assigning tests. Calculators not allowed in most tests. Very hard to understand from, at the end of the semester, she hustles around by teaching a chapter in class. I dont recommend this class to anyone.
This is the worst teacher EVER! She is really hard. Her tests are the hardest I've ever taken. She's fast-paced and you will never keep up with her. Homework is not required but it is recommended because she's confusing so you're going to have to teach yourself. Basically, DO NOT TAKE THIS LADY!
da easiest teacher i've ever taken she makes calc 2 feel like college algebra had all As except for da finals. take home quizzes and take home portions of the tests plus extra credits... best math teacher took her for trig also and she was terrific....
If you know being proficient in trig will help in future courses, take her. She is extremely knowledgeable in math, and breaks down the subject perfectly. NOT EASY. Tests are very comprehensive so never skip homework. Definitely not the professor for an easy grade, but if you struggle she is very accessible in her office hours. Prof. Hearn ROCKS!!!
Explains in detail to the point that Trig becomes 2nd nature. No memorization she will show how to derivate everything. Expects students to learn the basics, no cheat sheets or calculators for the most part. Quizzes and tests are easy if you do the work and study. Not an easy A but you will learn it, great for those who need higher level math.
Very great teacher, she will definitely work with you when you come by her office(which I did all the time) However she does teach really fast-paced and skips around a lot. Like we worked in 2.1 and then the next day 2.2 and then the next day we went back to 2.1 again and started 2.3 on the same day.
Prof. Hearn is awesome. She explains EVERYTHING very well and will definitely help you with any problems you have. On all our exams, she gave ridiculous curves or other opportunities to improve your grade. One test went from a 58 to a 108. I ended the class with probably a 120% and felt like I knew everything. Everyone else did bad tho so idk.
Professor Hearn was very good. Easiness is 3 just because calc. 2 is a hard course. Her office is right across the hall and she is always available to help. Wish I could take her for calc. 3.
worst class ever. you can take her unless you want to fail.
She is very intelligent and friendly individual. She has a sense of humour as well. Tests are not easy. However, she prepares you. Prior to every test, she posts review problems for you to practice. If you understand the review problems, you'll do okay on the tests. She explains the material well. Good luck!!!
She doesnt teach. You read your book then you do problems in class. She's not smart and often makes mistakes. Causing the class confusion constantly.
You can not fail this class. She gives way too much opportunity for extra credit. Part of the test is take home. She gives lots of retakes. Curves the grade to 75 for the entire class. Not very good with note taking. She rather jumps in and does problems. OH and the final for CAL 1 is like so easy compared to the chapter exams. Do homework and ask.
The best possible teacher for calc 1&2. Explains and answers all your questions. Easy tests and homework.
Hard grader, wants all perfect, if just forget minus, lose 4 points out of 5! Not possible 1 hour class - 15-20 questions! Same time – gives opportunity to fix score. Too much stress. I prefer normal time than stress from overload and hope to fix late. Do not register for 1 hour, 4 times a week, pic 2 times a week, 2 hours – help when test.

This professor will fail you. She wild throw things on the test that she never went over in class, her thoughts are very unorganized and she grades very hard. She doesn't even drop the lowest test score so if you fail one of her tests, you're pretty much screwed for the rest of the semester. She needs to retire.
Professor Hearn will teach you the material if you pay attention. She does explain things when the material get difficult. She is really cares for her students. The only problem is she is kind of boring, I fell asleep in her class most of the time.
Genuinely cares about students. Intelligent; will explain anything that you ask until you understand it. Goes out of her way to do what she can to help you pass. Has thorough reviews for every test. Her grading is forgiving and fair; she gives points for work even if answer is incorrect. Gives take home test. Works only from textbook.
She teaches thoroughly, and really wants you to understand the material. Gives review problems before each test which are essentially the same problems on the test. Grades fairly and sometimes with a curve. Usually, we could go back and correct problems on the test for partial credit. I had her for Calc I and II. I highly recommend this professor!
