Online MBA class. Professor clear cut. Quizzes, discussions and responses and a final. Good feedback. Would take again.
Each week has one Discussion Board Question, you must write a response to. They typically take quite a bit of research, so M-W you spend working on the essay. Then Th-Fri, you should be working on the practice questions, so on the weekend you can take the weekly test. Tests are fair, but tough. She curved a couple of them. Final was cumulative.
I really liked that Dr. Kendall disclosed the median grades of the test and curved if there were too many students that did not do well on certain questions. She was responded to emails quickly and was very accessible to office hours. The class was challenging, but very fair. I would recommend her.
Excellent professor. Book is multiple PDF files written by her - things are laid out in detail and instructions provided on how to use the calculator for each problem. Gives ample practice problems and provides lots of feedback from tests and is straight forward. I would definitely take another class with her. She wants students to succeed.
Fantastic professor! You have to work in this class, but she gives extremely clear notes, video instruction and practice problems. Practice problems more difficult than exam questions so you must work these each week! Extremely fair grading, and quick response time. I actually learned so much in this course, best professor in the LSUS MBA program!
This is not an easy class, however, if you do the practice problems, pay attention to notes in practice problem solutions and watch instructor videos she pretty much lets you know what is on the test.
Took this online course for Finance and it was extremely difficult. No book. She provides power points. I had to get a tutor to pass this class. Failed the first test, but she dropped my lowest grade. I barely made a B. Get ready to read&utilize a financial calculator. If you don't understand the core concepts of FINANCE this will be a tough class!
You have a test that is proctored every week but you can use notecards, there is also a discussion every week and you have to reply to a peer
If you read her slides (she makes her own textbook which is really nice actually) and do the practice problems to the point you've mastered them, you should get an A. The class starts off easier and progressively gets more difficult which is typically good. One discussion or practical assignment each week. The weekly exams are 60% of your grade
Very responsive to emails especially when the problems didnt sit right with me. Very supportive and understanding.
Practice questions and lectures will get you a good grade. It was a good class
I have almost finished class and have to say that so far she has been my favorite instructor for the online MBA program. She clearly wants her students to succeed and while the course is not an easy one and time must be put in, she does an excellent job of giving clear information.
The class is pretty straightforward about grading. She creates slideshows with good explanations about how to solve problems. Do not take this class if you haven't taken an intro finance class yet. She expects you to come into the class with baseline knowledge.
Great instructor. Really cares about her students. I did not take any supplemental classes for this course and I managed to make a B. The class is concept heavy! Don't get me wrong you will need your calculator but she provides videos of her going through the problems. Typically, there are at least 9 equations and 6 concept questions. Good Luck!
Class is pretty much straight forward. She do not use a textbook but provide slides and practice problem to study. If you are able to complete the practice problems, read the slides and understand the concepts that she state will be on the test you should get am A. The first 4 test were easier than the last two which was mostly conceptual.
Great professor. Supplies you with all necessary things to be successful. If you fail it is on you. If you work hard and use the resources that she supplies you should be just fine. Make sure to complete the study guide first. 60% of test comes from this. 40% concept which you will need to read the powerpoints. Overall great course.
60% of the grade is tests. 6 test 15 questions each. 70% of test questions are straightforward but the 30% left is extremely difficult which makes getting an A in the class difficult if you have a normal life (kids, full time job, etc.). Multiple right answers leave you guessing on a needle in the haystack of material she puts out every week.
Dr. Kendall is the first professor I've taken in the LSUS MBA program that has not held weekly zoom sessions to review material. Powerpoints are covered in typos, are not clear, contain good information-but are challenging to understand. I got an A because I can do math and TVM. Without that skill set beware! Would not take again. Texts60% of grde
The professor does not provide a book instead there are lecture notes she has uploaded. There are often typos in the lecture slides and usually far too much information without enough detail to truly grasp the concepts being covered. If you do not go over the copious amount of practice problems the exams will be impossible to pass. You must study!
This class is hard, but if you study 10-20 hours a week you will make an A for sure. Just do the practice problems. Not an easier A unless you are super fast at memorizing. The good news is she will outline what is on the exam.
This was my first class in the MBA program, I'm coming from elementary education with no finance background, and while I had to work to understand, I easily achieved an A+. Professor Kendall answered my email question so quickly, gave me help, and told me to get back with her if it wasn't clear and she would help me until it was. I learned so much!
Dr Kendall is a good and Fair instructor. You will work for your grade. There is a massive amount of information in a short 7 weeks but if you read the notes, do the problems, you will succeed. This was my first online class. It was a very pleasant and informative class.
Subject matter is intense for anybody who is not mathematically inclined or have experience with Finance, no way to avoid it. Dr. Kendall does an amazing job presenting the material online. Very clearly explained details of how to work problems and weekly videos working through problems. Highly recommend her if you have to take the course.
Dr Kendall is great. She is very accessible and really wants to help you to be successful at the class. Finance is difficult but she takes it pretty slow and simplifies it as much as possible. I learned a TON. I would definitely recommend this professor. Just read the material and do the practice problems. You will do great if you put in the effort
Very easy to follow, gives very clear, detailed notes inside the homework answers to help break down concepts. Tests are a mixture of concept questions and math problems. Financial calculator is a must. Prof is available via email to help with additional concept questions. Minimal discussion board posts required, as well as 2 practical applications
Dr. Lynn Kendall gave very informative, evenly paced, and thorough lectures. Her syllabus was clear and precise. I enjoyed this course and would sign up for a future course with her if necessary for my degree program.
Dr. Kendall gave a clear syllabus upon the start of the class. 4 discussion posts & 2 practical assignments due on alternative weeks. Last 2 weeks are combined into 1 week. Make sure to read and do the extra assignments given for extra practice. Tests are math and concepts. Concepts are tricky but you can get to the right answer!
Dr. Kendall's Finance class was pretty enjoyable. Everything you need to know for the exams is provided in the slides. If you do the practice problems and put forth some effort, you should do well!
Clear syllabus and grading expectations. Excellent materials. 4 discussion posts & 2 practical assignments. Last 2 weeks are combined. DO the practice assignments given for math and concept answers, math is straightforward - formulas are allowed into exams. Important - lectures AND REVIEWS are VERY good. Dr. Kendall is ALWAYS available via email.
Tests are pretty straight forward. Do all practice problems to under the concepts better. She does allow a note card for exams with only formulas. Her TAs are tough graders when it comes to the assignments and discussion questions. If you do everything correctly, it should be an easy A.
Do the practice problems and look over all her hints and notes. She is very clear in explanations and gives you everything you need to succeed. It is up to you if you will take advantage and get an A or not.
Dr. Kendall is an awesome instructor. The class is designed in a manner that makes the concepts easy to understand and retain. Not an easier A IF you put in the effort to read the material and work all of the practice problems. The practice problems all have step by step instructions on the solutions page which really helps prepare for the exam.
Quizzes every week that count for a big portion of your grade. Super detailed notes and explanations. Do the practice problems and look at her notes along with her hints because she gives all the information for the exams. Also 2 graded assignments that have large weight which helps if you are not a good test taker! Discussions every other week.
4 discussion posts (DP) with 1 peer response, 2 assignments, and 6 exams (equation notecard allowed). Discussion posts are easy, the assignments follow the practice problems, and the exams are straightforward (15 questions). Just take notes on the powerpoints and do the practice problems and you will get an A. DP 20%, Assignments20%, Exams60%
Prof is always available. Amount of information high in proportion to the low number of test questions. No textbook. Formatting of material is rough. Equations misrepresented with typos frequently. She often uses a dash when you are not sure if this is a minus sign and uses flowery language when math is more helpful. Skips steps in explanations.
You must do the homework to be prepared for the exams. There are weekly discussion posts and two practical application assignments that also align with exam material. A formula notecard is allowed during tests. Professor is invested in student success.
Class was fair. Several of us from groupme did study sessions, & helped solidify concepts. Her "instructor examples" were done at warp speed. .Read the lecture notes and try some of the practice problems before reviewing her postings. It was nice to have her really embrace the idea of "asynchronous" classes by NOT offering zoom at a set time..
Dr Kendall put a lot of time and effort into her course, with videos and great explanations to practice problems. It's a lot of reading/work, the tests are tough but totally doable. She does a good job of letting you know what she is looking for. I feel she cares about our grades. It is a Master's level finance course, it's supposed to be tough.
The class was interesting, applicable to the real world, and Professor Kendall was knowledgeable. But get ready to work hard. There is a LOT of content on each test with lots of formulas as well as understanding the "whys" behind formulas and concepts. I have kids, a full time job and found myself spending 30-40 hours a week on this class.
Finance is not an easy course at the graduate level. I felt that as long as I devoted the time, I did well on the tests. The theory questions test your understanding of the material each week, but if you pay attention to her notes and complete your homework, and make good use of your allowed formula card, you can do well in her class.
Great lecture notes, in a pdf or ppt format. Tests were very similar to practice problems and overall course material. She also has academic coaches to help with q/a that may come up on more challenging concepts. If you put in the time you will do well.
Professor Lynn knows what she's is talking about. BUT, the student doesn't always. Her conceptual questions often have 2-3 correct answers and one most correct answer. With accelerated courses she needs to be more specific on her exact expectations for the exam. If you work really hard, you can get an high B. An A requires some luck.
You will work hard in this class. I spent a minimum of 30 hours a week to somewhat understand the subjects. She does give you all of the docs/tools you will need to be successful. I took this one as it was not just 4 tests but had other HW do to balance out the grade (Discussions and HW). Student average for this class was a solid B.
Finance was definitely a tough class and Kendall makes you work for your grade. But she provides plenty of examples to help you understand and do well on her exams!
Solid class & professor. I am a working professional in a sr role & active family/kids activities. I found the commitment required to excel in this class to be challenging however it is doable. Material was really great and very interesting - I have a Business BS and I learned a lot in this class. ~20hrs/wk should yield an A/B
Excellent professor. The practice problems are the key to bridging the lectures provided with the knowledge for the exams. There are concept questions on exams that can be a little tricky. Expect 15-20 hours per week for an A. She is quick to answer questions and gives excellent assistance when necessary. I would take every class she teaches!
Amazing class & prof. Lots of lecture note material that takes ~15hr/wk but everything is so well laid out & she provides detailed soln. guides so no surprises on tests. Very helpful via email. 6 tests, 2 practical applications, and 4 discussions. PAs are useful, tests fine, discussions req some research & are due Th if no PA, only con I have.
Online accelerated Financial Management. Dr. Kendall gives you plenty of practice problems, videos, and supplemental material for you to be successful. Lots of math, but you can use a financial calculator for the tests, and you are also allowed to create a formula notecard for the tests. Six exams, four discussion boards, and two assignments.
VERY detailed lectures, so lots of reading and learning. She gives you all the info that you need to prepare for the exams. A formula sheet is allowed on the 6 exams. 4 discussions, 2 practicals, with clear grading criteria, are fairly graded. Read through her practice solution and watch all HER videos. LOVE her style, very organized course.
I found the course interesting, and Dr. Kendall always responded to emails promptly and with clarity. There's a lot of material you'll essentially teach yourself, but she's available for questions. Her exams are directly from the practice problems. If you do the practice problems repeatedly til you feel comfortable, then the exams are pretty easy.
Dr. Kendall provided everything needed to do well on the exams. Watch the videos, read the material, and PRACTICE to do well. Highly recommend the course and professor.
Course needs a textbook because Dr. Kendall's handouts are riddled with typos and not organized well. Her lectures are hard to follow as she calls things by different names. Someone needs to edit the materials for this course so that they flow properly and are understandable. Instead, I would have to read the handouts over and over.
Easy class if you take the time and do the work. 6 exams, a handful of discussion posts and 2 home work assignments. If you watch the lectures and go over the weekly practice problems a few times, you will be fine. You have to study and do the work but she is more than fair on what she asks on the exams. No trick questions. Easy A if you try.`
Follow weekly lecture and PowerPoints, create a good equation card (which is allowed) and tests shouldn't be a problem. There are weekly discussions with response to classmates are on interesting topics and aren't difficult. Two practical assignments are equation heavy and address the concepts learned in lecture notes.
Overall learned a ton. Spent at least 15-20 hrs per week or more on reading long powerpoints, working practice problems, creating test "cheat sheets", & responding to discussion posts. When she posted videos (usually to give examples of working the problems) they were always very clear. Dr. K's organization of the material could have been better.
Very nice woman with good intentions. However, sloppy handouts and only covers 20% of content through video. If I wanted to learn from reading, I would've just bought a book. She must do better covering content through video lecture like other professors. Great content that is valuable in the field, but needs to improve on delivery.
Yikes... You can tell she is a PhD and has never worked in the field. Does not lecture, just hands out 200+ pages of slides a week.
Excellent class, finance is not easy. She gives you all notes and practice to succeed. If you complete the module assignments and homework each week, you will get a good grade on the tests. I received a 96% in the class after being out of college for 8 years. I highly recommend. Very organized class.
I learned more from the YouTube videos she attached than any of her PowerPoints. A lot of people say they study for 20+ hours for this class. If you use her notes then you will. Research the concepts outside of the class resources and the concepts can be learned very quickly. Spent about 2-3 hours a week learning from outside resources. Passed A-
Weekly 15 question exam (multi choice & true/false) except week 6. Half page of formula notes can be used on exam. 250-word discussion post w/ one peer response during weeks 1, 3, 5, 6. An assignment during weeks 2 & 4. Slides, videos, & exam hints provided. No extra credit. No group work. Get the TX Instruments BA II Plus financial calculator!
Dr. Kendall provided excellent content for the MBA702 class. She put together extensive powerpoints and practice problems to help further explain the topics. If you review the powerpoint lectures and the practice problems you should do very well in this class. I would highly recommend Dr. Kendall for MBA702!
Excellent instructor. She gives you everything you need to succeed in the course, but you have to put in the work. I never saw any trick questions on her exams. Each concept came directly from the lectures and practice problems. She also grades on time and provides feedback, which is rare for an online course. I would absolutely take her again.
Great professor and truly cares for students. Weekly quizzes (15 questions), 4 discussions(unrelated to the material) reply to one person, and 2 practicals (this helped me understand the work). DO THE PRACTICE PROBLEMS. Also, beware of some spelling errors in her slides/practice problems. It tripped me up a few times thinking I missed a term.
Dr. Kendall knows her stuff and is truly invested in making sure you learn the content. Weekly recorded lectures with practice problems, really help with learning and digesting the material. It's not an easy topic, but if you watch the lectures and do the practice problems, you will be fine!
Professor Kendall doesn't do a good job teaching this course. I would have to agree with others that her hand outs are messy and hard to follow. Her lecture videos are not helpful at all. You will need to use outside resources in order to understand the material. If math is a challenge for you, don't take her class.
Her "lecture notes" are not clear and have many typos (even in some of the numbers!). Some information is repeated many times and some is not explained enough. The tests are very fair, but it takes a lot of work to get ready for them. I would not take a class with this professor again.
I was concerned about taking this course- Math is a big challenge for me. I found the material very comprehensive and straightforward. The practice problems and solutions are very helpful . I would definitely recommend Dr Kendall for this course.
crazy how if you make grammatical errors on an assignment you are docked points but all of her material is absolutely full of errors and typos. she even has errors in her own videos!!!! how can you expect us to lean if we're busy play interpreter? at least have enough respect for your students to make edits since you clearly haven't in years.
Lots of errors in the notes that were provided. Walked away with a B. Probably wouldn't take again.
I enjoyed this class. Material very challenging but I have learned a lot. Dr. Kendall provides the information needed to do well in the course and walk away with a good understanding of the subject matter. Reinforcement thru practice problems and thorough explanation of solutions very very helpful.TA grading very fair with fast turnaround time.
Typos. So many typos - both in the lecture notes and in the practice problems. The latter is problematic when you're trying to learn calculations and are being provided incorrect information. Otherwise, she provides everything that you need to succeed the exams. Focus on the practice problems and the explanations she provides for those problems.
Extremely difficult to learn how to solve math problems with very little visual demonstration. Most problems are explained through slides and written notes which are very hard to follow along. If you have little to no background in finance do not take this class.
This is a challenging class that needs a ton of time dedicated to it. Beware of her typos throughout lecture notes and practice problem answers, and errors in her mathematical examples. Focus on the practice problems and her notes in the solutions. The exams are 15 questions with 1 hour to complete, however, it is time consuming to complete.
I'm shocked I got a B because the tests were so difficult. 1 hr for 15 q's and I still ran out of time three times. Luckily if you get 100% on discussions and assignments, that will help pull up your grade. I was stressed the entire time and only got C's and B's on exams despite spending hours each day studying. would recommend anyone avoid.
I would 100% recommend taking Kendall's class. She is very clear about what is on the tests and gives you lots of practice problems and details in her notes to succeed. The subject is not easy, but if you study the notes and problems you will be fine. She lets you use a 1/2 page cheat sheet and financial calculator. No extra credit or dropped exams
I am half way through the course and I am very happy with how it has gone. Study the formulas, go through the slide decks, and do the practice problems and an A is definitely achievable. Very much enjoy this course so far
I took an online accelerated (7-week) MBA course with Dr. Kendall. If you make sure you read every section she provides (lecture notes, practice problems (and solutions), hints on what to expect on the exam, and etc.) you will do great. She is very responsive via email and will answer any question referring back to her own lecture notes.
Very caring professor. Concepts are hard. No zoom or lecture videos but will answer any questions you have. 2 Application Assignments, 4 Discussions, 6 Exams. Practice problems are the key to the exams. She is also very clear on what she expects with your writings and assignments, which is nice.
Aside from all the other comments here if you are able to go through a 100s of pages of PowerPoint and self taught I would not recommend this class. Doable, but won't learn anything. She prefers to not do anything in excel, but expect you to learn on a calculator and most business roles use excel.
6 exams, 2 sets of homework, 4 discussions. Seems to really care about her students learning and is available. If you read the notes, watch the provided videos, and do the practice problems the exams are not difficult. This is a class you need to dedicate some time to as the concepts can be difficult. Would recommend overall.
Class was laid out as predictable and clear on expectations. However, be prepared to spend many hours reviewing slide decks, completing practice problems, and reviewing the practice problems solution keys if you want an A. Is all the information provided to be successful in this class? Yes. Is it provided in an easy to digest manner? No.
Dr Kendall is really nice and responsive. She wants you to learn and does an excellent job of designing the course. By design, the course requires effort, but you will learn a lot that can be applied to real financial management situations. She is an outstanding professor, and I would recommend her class to any student.
Dr. Lynn was delightful to work with. Her PowerPoints are super detailed, which helps a lot. She also posts recordings of concepts that could be difficult to understand. There are a lot of equations but she does allow an equation sheet. Even with the equation sheet, it is imperative that you understand how to get the values to use in the equations.
I wouldn't pair this class up with another class. This class required the most studying out of all the (8) courses I have taken so far. You are graded by 6 exams, 4 discussions (DB), and 2 practical assignments (PA). Exams were difficult, study hard. I had a nice TA so I received 100s on all DB and PA. You need to buy a BAII calc. Barely made an A.
Dr. Kendall thinks that her lectures and practice problems are clear and simple. During the reviews of the problems, she purposefully tries to trick her students and includes things that aren't relevant. If you are taking her, be prepared to be frustrated at practice problems that either don't make sense or are missing pieces of the question.
Practice problems and lectures are not as clear and tests are very tricky. Can use formula sheet. No xtra credit. Not very helpful videos given. Run!
Others complained about how hard the class was. I think it was really because Finance wasn't their thing, and they didn't know how to study for this class. I'm NOT finance savy and I still learned a lot from Prof. Kendall's course. Of the LSUS MBA finance classes to take, I believe she sets you up most for success. I'd take a class from her again.
This course wasn't difficult in terms of material, but the amount was substantial. 6 proctored exams, 3 practical assignments (calculation and application), and 3 graded discussions (with 1 response). Dr. Kendall provides what's needed to succeed, but you must stay on top of it, lots of reading. Exams mirror practice problems.
The most important part I learned was to use the hints to create study guides. I was so thankful for the review, videos, and bold print, which MUST BE added to the study guide to avoid being overwhelmed. I'm not Finance savvy, did spend a lot of time studying at night. It speeds new brain development in learning before bed.
Clear expectations but HEAVY workload, be prepared to dedicate a significant amount of time to working through multiple pages of calculations weekly. There are 3 weekly discussion questions that are just noise and unnecessary but I would recommend this class and professor.
I struggled in this class because there was a lack of instruction. Videos showing how problems are done or explaining concepts were sporadic at best. There were no open office hours, and the school didn't have a designated tutor for this course (I had to pay for one through Wyzant). Tests are difficult. NO extra credit was given.
She is a good professor! She cares about your grade as much as you do. It sucks because you can't ask for general advise or do an online meeting with her, you can only ask her or your academic coach specific questions.
Dr. Kendall was amazing. Enjoyed this class. There were (3) discussion posts (250+ words, cited sources in APA format), 3 practical assignments (working problems to apply knowledge), and 6 proctored exams. Her grading rubric was easy to understand and she was VERY responsive to emails. Not open book, but could have a notecard with formulas.
Professor was FANTASTIC. Aside from this, the class itself is VERY challenging if u have no finance background. For me, every week felt like learning a foreign language trying to pass the exams. 6 exams (15 q, MC, T/F), 3 application assignments & 3 discussion posts. A miracle that I passed with an A. Unrealistic amount of material for 7 weeks
This class was very challenging, but I spent a lot of time reading her material, practicing the problems, and paying close attention to the hints she gives you in your assignments. Homework is much more complicated than the tests. I hate math with a passion and finished with a high A. Would definitely take her again. Con: So many typos.
Dr. Lynn Kendall provided the course material in a way that was easy to understand and gain practical knowledge of. I highly recommend her for MBA702 Financial Management. There are few assignments and test are short. Read the material, look for her notations on what is important and practice the material. She does allow an equation sheet.
Dr. Kendall is phenomenal. She's very responsive to emails and genuinely cares about her students. Don't be afraid to email her if you have extenuating circumstances. She is kind. I'm not a math-minded person at all, but her study materials are very helpful and break down the required steps to solve a problem. I recommend this course/professor.
The course was a bit slide heavy, but with 6 tests all 15 question multiple choice and true false, along with 3 discussion topics and 3 practical assignments it wasn't impossible. The practice problems will help you immensely when prepping for the tests. Barely maintained my A, so best of luck to all those taking in the future, this is a good class
She provides the reading material and videos on the practice problems and concepts she wants you to know for the tests. You will need to complete the reading and do the problems to do well in the class. Questions were not trying to trick you. If you put in the time and read all of the material, you will do fine in her class.
The class was more work than most in the program, but was worth it. Professor Kendall made the concepts very clear and gave you several different ways to learn and review (practice problems, supplemental videos, examples). You will learn a lot, but be ready to work!
Dr. Kendall is knowledgeable and provides clear course criteria. This course is theory and calculation-heavy; it is hard. You read 75 pages/wk, watch videos, complete practice problems to then either write weekly discussion assignment OR practical application solutions. There is a weekly exam as well.
Excellent course with useful practical information that can be applied to the real world. Lots of lecture notes to read each week, however they are useful and can be applied to real-world situations. This is a lecture heavy course with a large workload, so I advise taking it alone (no other classes at the same time) to fully appreciate the lessons.
The course is designed to be challenging. Topics include time value of money, bonds, and capital budgeting. Exams were multiple-choice with about 15 questions. Discussion posts and practical application tasks also required. Calculator, formula sheet, scratch paper allowed. Slight curve was applied. Course expanded my finance skills.
While I probably spent more work on this class than many of my others in the MBA program, it was one of my favorites! Dr. Kendall is exceptionally clear and fair. She ensures that you truly learn the material. Read her "lecture notes," which are far more digestible than any textbook, do the practice problems, and make a robust equation sheet.
This class is challenging but not impossible. Take note of the solutions to the practice problems, most of the test questions are very similar. As long as you make sure you know how to do the practice problems you'll do fine. It's a lot of reading and material but you shouldn't have a problem getting an A.
Class wqas fairly easy and concepts weere thoroughly explained. Towards the end concepts began to get a little confusing.
