Until this class, I always hated math and was bad at it because i had horrible math teachers elem - HS. She made math understandable, and honestly made me LIKE the subject i HATED. Strongly recommend her!
She runs a very fun and comfortable class, but its also very good class if you really want to learn.
In my opinion I felt the way she taught was a little difficult to follow at times. Although her class does have a very relaxed environment wich in nice. Overall she is a good teacher but if you really struggle in math and don't like the math lab you may want to consider a differnt teacher.
Very awesome teacher. She has a sense of humor and makes the class fun. With that it helped me to learn the most I could during this class. You definitely have to put forth the effort to get the grade though. If you don't..don't expect a good grade. You have to work for what you want.
Poor teaching skills. Talks to students as if they're in kindergarten.
she has a great personality and makes the class fun. she goes through the lectures thoroughly.
what can i say...u r the best Mrs. Knight...u really can teach Math :) ♥

Has a definate motherly-approach to teaching the class, which also characterizes her patience for the class's understanding of the material (up to a limit, math is always fast paced). Very helpful though, will make things as simple as possible. I aced it and usually I stress over math. You'll like her, she's charming in a way (99% of math teachers are nasty, boring, monotonous people).
I got an A in Calculus. She's very helpful. She's not easy (after all, it is calculus)...but she does make it EASY TO LEARN.
she is unclear when teaching the lesson
helpful and professional
Took this class in a 3-week summer session. Lot of work, but its easy and the tests are not that hard. U dont learn anything in lecture but the book is pretty good and will help you. Overall an easy class.
I took this course in 6 weeks. Fairly difficult- lots of work- but you learn the material well. She's a fair teacher and is understanding.
Took this online, she is very disorganized and unresponsive to emails. The website used for the homework for this class has dates for 2006 not FA07. You can't work ahead on any chapters Work isn't spaced out well and too much was due the last two weeks of the course.
She's pretty good at teaching the material but can get impatient or annoyed if you don't get it. She'll still explain but be irritable about it. Overall a good teacher but you have to actually do the work to get the grade. Not the best math teacher but definitely not the worst.
The most moody teacher I've taken at DVC.She gets irritated and bothered about everything. Gets angry at foreign students who have problems with the language. She shows no patience.Other than those annoying qualities, she is a good teacher. Goes through stuff thoroughly, but needs to synchronize her way and the book's way for less confusion.
Hated math, got a low grade in high school for trig, came into this class last semester as a sophomore not expecting any different, hadn't taken math in a year. BUT I got an A in her class. She makes it easy to understand, she's got a very effective method of teaching. I'm taking pre-calc with her again first day of school tomorrow.
Reasonable teacher. If you do the work tests are easy. Easy to get an A as long as you do the work. She is a little hot tempered, but like I said if you do all the work she is a great teacher.
horrible teacher. complains about her commute and doesnt explain the material..just throws out examples from her head that may not even work out. i am a straight A student and LOVE math but this woman ruined it for me. from the reviews I've read it seems like she is an awesome at teaching math 120 but she is not qualified for calculus!
i love the comments about her being moody, its true, she is almost always in a bad mood about something, (pens not working, busy schedule, not enough sleep) and her lectures are breathtakingly fast but if you can keep up in the lecture and do the homework, the tests are not that bad. On the plus side, it will make any other math teacher look easy
I took her class online. It is pretty easy if you can motivate yourself to do the homework and study. As long as you keep up you'll do fine in her class but Takes forever for her to answer e-mails. Usually had to e-mail twice. Tests are not so bad if you study.
Good hearted, bad at teaching. Lynn Knight is a very fast-paced teacher that seems to have a good heart, but does not know how to teach coherently and linearly. Did not follow the book much at all in lecture, but took a lot of the assignments from it, which was confusing. Book is also confusing. Worst DVC math professor Ive had, which is something!
Also wanted to say that she doesn't fuss about tardiness, like some teachers. But please, don't take her for Calculus unless you can teach it to yourself. (Better off taking it online, in that case - save the gas money!)Pulls examples out of her head too much ("What's the answer? uh, I don't know.") Just please don't take her for Calculus!!!
Pro's- Fairly Easy Test and Homework. Con's- Still haven't gotten are grades 3 weeks after semester ended, unorganized, treats students like high school students, will not let student's leave class early, makes students switch seat's if hearing chatter, explains things the difficult way, lose's track while doing problems, not a great instructor
Took online class - wasn't terrible. All homework is due the day of the exam, which is once a month. You have unlimited attempts to do the online quizzes and homework, so getting a 100 on those should be a piece of cake. Warning: getting in touch with her is close to IMPOSSIBLE. So if you expect to get help, forget it. Math lab is your only friend!
Online summer course....don't do it. She is flaky on emails, help and grading tests. You teach yourself and get 50 himework assignments dumped on you all 50-80 questions each, it's impossible if you work or have kids. All she is in this course is a person who files your grades. Such a joke
Professor Knight is a nice person and she wants you to succeed. She is as helpful as possible. I took this class summer online and I dont recommend summerschool on line for a math class unless you are a math whiz. The pace is incredible and the work load is overwhelming. 18 wks of material and homework in 6 wks, self taught was awful for me.
Despite all the negative comments I've seen on this forum, she's not that bad. I took her online course and yes, her communication is poor and she seems vacant. But on her tests, she is quite lenient and she often extended her deadlines. Also she gives extra credit assignments. The workload is pretty heavy, but if you do the work, it's an easy A.
It is like stepping into a highschool class again. She treats you like a child and can't control her classroom. Homework is piled on you which is completely absurd and it doesnt help that she isn't confident in her math.(she usually ends up correcting her examples, examples that math teachers should have CORRECT in the first place!!) DO NOT TAKE
Mrs. Knight assigns a lot of homework but it is extremely helpful with your quizzes/ tests. there is a quiz once a week which is a breeze if you did the homework. the tests are challenging but if you study you will be fine. She is very nice and reasonable. If you keep up with your work, you will do well.
Yeah there's homework assigned it's a MATH CLASS. The assignments aren't that long. Quizzes are straight off the homework, so if you did it you're golden. She always puts extra credit questions on her exams. She does make a few mistakes on the examples in class, but if you know basic arithmetic it shouldn't be a problem. Do the work, easy A.
Expect weekly quizzes that are representative of the tests. As long as you do all the work you should do okay in the class. She talks to students like they are in high school and often seems flustered and disorganized. But you can tell she really wants everyone to do good in her class.
Took her online class. Instructions are very clear and the coursework is well-organized, etc. However, all of the online work is multiple choice or fill in the blank, but her in-person exams are not multiple choice and are more difficult than the online work, which makes it hard to do well on the exams. Not the most helpful teacher.
Mrs. Knight is probably the best teacher i've had at Dvc, no lie. She explains everything clearly and lets you know what is needed in order to succeed in her class. She is extremely nice. As long as you dont disrupt her class, she will leave you alone. Hands down I would recommend her to any and everybody.
sweet lady, very helpful and clear. tests/quizzes were straightforward. gave time at the end of class to work on hw. I usually had time to help out people that were stuck; I found that usually those who had a difficult time with the work didn't understand how to do algebra. if you didn't do well in Alg1 you really can't expect to do well in Alg2
To all of you who have given Ms. Knight a poor rating-you probably just didn't do well in her class. She is the best math teacher I have had. I have never seen students who are so disrespectful. I learned to love math again and I would highly recommend her (teaching is clear and she is a very nice person). Quit hating and start studying.
She's fairly decent to learn from, and her quiz questions are based from the HW, so if you keep up with that, you should be able to do well. However, I have to comment on her timeliness- She's often late to class and I think as a result of this, her edginess spills over. More often than not she's irritable. But a decent math prof overall.
She's nice but irritable which is understandable. I wouldn't take B.S. in a college classroom lightly either. She's great at explaining things and open for any questions and is willing to help. Another awesome thing about her is that she refuses to use ALEKS.COM because it charges students 40 dollars, which I hated. Don't hesitate to take her.
Class itself is hard, & she can be frustrating. Speeds through concepts & gets annoyed when you correct her or if you don't understand what she's teaching. Lots of hw & you need to keep up with it if you want to pass. Definately read the book & form study groups cuz you need to teach yourself sometimes. Test questions mostly from hw too.
She explains math in the most difficult way possible. She's a nice person but her teaching style did not work for me.
Nice lady. Not so much as a teacher. Explained a lot, in a rushed kind of way. She always left early to attend to personal business. If you didnt get it the first time through, "you need to go to the math lab". She made the students do the work on the board because she "was too tired". I got an A only because I did a lot of the work on my own.
Teacher is often on the edge and arrives late almost every day. She breezes through coursework, often confusing with regarding to multiple mistakes on lecture. Need textbook, she believes completely with the 1 hr in class 2 hrs at home. I would recommend her only if you are a fast learner and can teach yourself from the book.
This teacher has very little concern for how her students do in her class. I tried to contact her by email 7 times during the semester. No response. She posted grades 2 weeks late. I would ask questions when I was confused and she would say "I dont have time there is too much to cover... Email me your q's" I have taken this class before. got a c-
She would procrastinate on making the tests and wouldnt understand how long each of her tests would take. Her final was photo copied out of the back of the book. She has double the problems that could have been completed in given time. She would make a bunch of mistakes during lecture and try to play it off as a test for her students. Dont take!!!
Very disorganized. I am currently taking the class and assignments are given to us late. A take home test was sent in error and not corrected for 4 days, so if you did the first test...too bad, take another...This is an on-line summer class that is already quite demanding, extra work is not needed, an organized professor is.
Strongly recommend her! It was my second time to take Math-182 and I dropped the class during the last semester. She made her lectures fun and understandable. You should be ok if you pay attenion and finish all the assignment. (Not an easy A)
Useless teacher in online class. Never replied to questions and bailed on 2 out 5 class meetings. I did not learn anything and basically hoped for the best. Luckily I think she knows she's a bad teacher and gives away grades. I got a B in a class I probably should have gotten a D in
If you don't get an A, B, or C in the class it's because you slacked off really bad. You need to study. She's very lenient on grading, offers extra credit, and might let you redo the problems you missed on a test. Do the homework and go to the math lab and you'll be good to go. HW, worksheets, quizzes, 3 midterms, and final is your grade.
She's really not that bad. 80% of your grade is tests, 20% quizzes and HW. Quiz problems straight from HW. EC problems on tests, worksheets are EC, occasional group quizzes, gives a practice test before exams nearly identical to the exam. The material itself is hard, she does go fast, but if you study, you'll do fine.
I don't think that she wanted to teach this online course, but she did an OK job. There are 5 meetings with her, including the final. All the homework is online, so you need to have self discipline. She only emails back every couple of times which can be frustrating, but she really is a very nice lady. Not the best teacher though.
She sucks, ovoid her if you can. This professor has no interest in helping students. She is never prepared for class. I took this class in a 3-week summer class, class itself is not hard but she is just horrible at doing her job which is to teach.
I would not recommend taking an online class with her. She does not answer your e-mails. You meet twice a month, once for test review and second for the test. Though she does not explain the material during the review.
Completely disorganized, rushes through problems and expects you to already have mastered calculus. If you ask a question she will either belittle you, or tell you she can't go through it because she doesn't have enough time. Avoid taking calc with Knight at all costs!
She may just be the worst prof I've ever had. Speeds through things like no other, expects you to have understood previous courses 100% and belittles you if you don't understand or ask questions. Quizzes and tests aren't hard but if you don't understand something, she is no help. Always in a bad mood, always rude. Avoid her if you can.
Honestly I loved her quick style. It was stressful at first but you get used to it. And also her test are BEYOND FAIR. she gives a pre test that is almost a Carbon Copy just with different numbers and i honestly learned so much because of the pretest. she tells you what you will be tested on during notes and it doesn't get any easier.
If you're really good at math, then take this class. If you're not very good at math and need an actual teacher to help you understand the material, this class is not for you. I ended up getting an "A" in this class, but it was only because I hired a tutor to teach me the material after each class. Just do the HW and study the worksheets. NOT EASY!
She is a nice teacher. I took her on 3 weeks summer class. It was really intense, a lot of homework every day and exam every week, but it wasn't too hard because she always give you a review before the test which is similar to the problem on the test. There are 3 exams and 1 will be dropped. Take notes on her class because it's really important!
Look, I'm a fair person. I just accept my professors as they are. Yes, Professor Knight is a bit grouchy and rude but she cuts you slack if you ask questions and you're on top of stuff. Once you show her you're willing to work hard, she makes the effort to get know you and is nice about it. Don't take her abruptness personally.
She's rude, and seems like she doesn't want to be in the classroom. But she gives practice tests that are like the real test so basically an easy A class. So if you're looking for a professor that will do anything to give you a good grade take her. But she is rude..
You HAVE to keep up with the homework, take good notes and do the practice tests! The practice tests are almost exactly like the actual tests. Only half of the quizzes will be put into your grade and one test will be drop. On top of that if you do the worksheets, 25 points will be added to your TEST GRADE.
Worst professor I have ever had at DVC. She does not care if you learn the material at all. She goes through everything super fast, and does not "have time" to answer questions. She is not suited to teach. Do not take her if you actually want to learn math.
Good lectures and in class examples. She can seem intimidating, but she is really nice. Be prepared for a lot of homework . Lots of calculations done by hand. Be disciplined with it, because late HW is not accepted. Her tests are not too hard. And her final was pretty easy. This class gave me confidence in trig as I went into Calculus.
She goes through material very fast whether you're caught up or not, but it's very easy to pass this class because of her tests.
She gave TONS of extra credits. Exams are 90 percent the same as the worksheets/extra credit that you previously took home. If you really do the worksheet and managed to master it. Easy A dude.
While her tests are easy, she will not do anything outside of class and she will send you to the math lab. I asked her a clarification question on a test and she said "that is not my job." I wouldn't suggesting taking her even if all other sections are full.
Mrs. Knight is a nice person and an amazing professor. She's very straight forward and gives a lot of notes and examples to help you understand the materials. Review previous sections every time at the beginning. She gives tons of homework but those are really helpful. She gives sample tests and reviews before actual tests. Hope to take her again.
Straight forward. Exams are hard, but she gives plenty of opportunities to do well in class and prepare for the exams. Easily one of the most underrated professors. Does come off as brash, but definitely a decent person and professor.
Professor Knight is a nice teacher, sometimes she gets impatience when you interrupt her. She does give out extra credit and sample test, but the material in this class are difficult. You will need to spend a lot of time on it to get an A, she also gives out quite a lot assignments. Just be aware, this is not a easy class.
horrible teacher who has very little patience and plan. She is not helpful and wants you to leave her alone. Keep your questions to yourself so to speak. Stay away.
Gosh I can't even comprehend how much I disliked her. She breezes through the lecture with insanity, and I personally can't learn quickly with math in general. Business Calc is a hard course to digest, but she makes it even tougher. Yeah you get practice tests beforehand to help you, but with all the work she expects from everyone, not impressed...
Professor Knight is definitely one of the most difficult teachers at DVC. But if you do all of the HW, extra credit, and do decent on the exams, then you will be fine. The exams are scheduled a week in advance and she gives you a study guide, which is almost identical to the exam. Lectures should not be missed, she goes quick and does not repeat.
She is TOUGH! But provides a LOT of extra credit opportunities. I would suggest not skipping a class ever, you'll fall far behind. She drops the lowest quiz and test. Also provides sample tests a week before which are very similar. Took 6 days after the semester to get my final grade which was annoying but got a B
If you are really good in math then I would recommend taking her. If you are a slow learner like me, then avoid her completely. She teaches really fast and she only explain things one time. She doesn't like answering question. She is a tough grader. IF you don't do exam or homework her way. You will get 0. Its not easy get A.
. she's an amazing teacher. explain the text book very well. answer any question that the student ask. do all the homework. study for the test" sample test 90% like the real test". do all the extra credit and you will get an A. I will take her again for sure. best math teacher so far.
She often confuses herself during lectures and spend little time explaining concepts. She will assume you already know the work and does not really help with homework. You will have a hard time understanding her because she often leaves out details when ever she explains a topic.
My class' grade was 20% HW & worksheets (heaps in qty. but she only checked if it was complete), 10% Quizzes, 40% Exams (which she gave practice exams for), 30% comprehensive Final (which she didn't give a practice exam for). I had to spend approx. 20 hrs./wk. studying and doing HW, to ensure my "A"; the Solutions Manual was a great teacher.
DONT TAKE HER!! Shes so rude to people who ask questions and makes them feel stupid, doesn't even answer the question. Talks too fast, doesn't explain what she's doing. Dropped her class.
Worst math professor I've ever had. Her lectures are extremely fast and she often failed to explain new terms and concepts. She assigns so much homework that you don't have time to prepare for the tests. Lynn was consistently irritable and blamed students for not comprehending her convoluted lectures. Don't even think about partial credit.
Professor Knight is amazing! Her tests are exactly like the homework. Come to class, do all of the homework problems and you will do great! She's very nice and gives very clear lectures.
communication was lacking
The course itself isn't very difficult, but it is a test heavy math class with a decent homework load. As long as you do her homework assignments you should be able to pass her tests, but she is a difficult grader, so A's are hard to come by as far as tests go. She offers a lot of extra credit, however.
Go to class and you get extra credit. She gives you a study guide to every test which is every near the same thing as the actual test. She is nice to people if you are nice to her. If you are capable and not a quitter she is perfect. One thing i do not like is that she offers no in class help on homework. Other than that I loved her class.
The worst math teacher I have ever had, not just at dvc, but throughout my entirety of being in school. She not only will get mad at students for being on their phone, but she will also not teach you anything, All she does is have a page of notes that she copies onto the board. If I had those same notes I could do her job 100 %.
She is not only bad at teaching math, she is also bad at talking to students. She will interupt the entire class session to tell someone to get off their phone. She also uses the words "um, like, and YES!?" constantly to fill up the space in-between everything else she says.
Lots of homework that she grades after the test. Why should we even do the homework in the first place then? If she grades it after the test that the HW is preparing you for, then how can you learn from your mistakes before the test? DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE
Ms. Knight does not understand that teaching should involve more than just writing notes on a board and having the students copy and paste into their notebooks.
I gotta to say she is an essay A professor but she always makes too many mistakes during her lecture.
She grades homework after tests giving the students no help on what they might have done wrong on the hw before the test. She makes so many mistakes during here "lectures" if you can even call them that
Cares about student needs within appropriate limitations. Demands to be respected. No foul language and no acting like immature idiots. (Very helpful to the rest of class). I only sat in class to take 5 tests. No lectures, but I'd imagine they may be rough to sit through. Everything is done via the e-book, except tests and chances for extra credit
I got B at her math 194 because there were too many questions need to handle on her exams during 1 hour and 20 mins.
Her method of teaching takes some getting used so it's essential that you quickly adjust to the style and pace of her lectures. The large amount of homework assigned makes this a demanding class. It helps to study her handouts prior to tests and quizzes. Take a light semester when you plan to take this class because the work is time consuming.
Makes many mistakes during her lectures which makes you question her ability as a professor. Is not helpful when you ask questions and is snarky and rude. It seems her favorite phrase is "I don't know." She doesn't seem to care about the quality of education she provides. Take her and be certain your mathematic education will be compromised.
I took her class online and you had to be doing at least to or three assignments a day plus quizzes and tests. Trying to understand every concept for the tests is near impossible when all you are worried about is trying to get all the hw in on time. The problems on the test also didn't always correspond with the chapters it was supposed to.
For a 3 week class, she gives an insane amount of homework. About 2-4 hours of homework everyday of the week. The tests on the other hand are very easy, she bases them off a practice test given the day before. There are opportunities for extra credit on the tests, hw, and even the final. Not to hard to get an A if you are able to finish the hw.
Get ready to do at least 4 hours of busy work everyday. She doesn't even teach the material needed to finish the insane amount of homework she assigns. She is constantly getting answers wrong and snarkily brushes you off when you try to correct her. Took her summer 191 class and only 4 people passed. AVOID.
By far the worst experience with any professor I've had. It doesn't seem like she likes her job or takes it seriously. There were over 11 assignments a week due online, she doesn't respond to emails, she shows up late to her class, always changes deadlines which adds confusion, gives blunt comments, and my class found her style very careless.
Prof Knight seems to not have much motivation to teach. This was an online class and the amounts of homework were ridiculous. Most of my classmates did not finish their work on time because it was so much so as a result students repeatedly asked for an extension. Thankfully, she was understanding and extended the due dates.
Prof Knight is possibly one of the most easy going teachers I have had in college. I haven't gotten an A in math for six years until I took her class. She does make a big deal about phones in class because she tries to get students to participate in the class. She is understanding of due dates and gives tones of extra credit
The amount of homework she assigns is just ridiculous. Even if you do know the material, it will take you hours to finish every night. Make sure your semester isn't so packed already if you're still thinking about signing up for her class.
She is the worst professor at DVC!! Beware if you won't get too many assignments with limited time provided, getting a lot of questions on the exam that never been taught, an old style way to teach students, around 250 heavy-written assignments, unfriendly person, always angry at the class. 0 pt on each exam quest. for a little & forgiven mistake.
I would not recommend taking Ms. Knight. 5-7 Hrs worth of homework before the next class. Lectures are extremely fast paced and there are constantly errors made. Her catch phrase seems to be "I don't know". Also, she refuses to answer any questions students have in class because she "doesn't have time". She assumes you already know the material.
Doesn't explain things well during lectures. Condescending. Assumes that we already know the material and gets annoyed when we don't. Goes way too fast and doesn't answer our questions too well. Makes random corrections on tests that she understands with out trying to help. Says she has no time to help cus she's in a rush and acts sorry about it...
Wasted a semester with this teacher. Did not explain anything well. Usually beat around tye bush when asked a question. Constant errors in board work that needed to be corrected by students. Her favorite like seemed to be "I don't know" when asking a rhetorical question. Often late. Expected a full board space of work in 5 mins or less. Awful prof.
She assigns an absurd amount of homework due the day of the tests and expects you to spend "at least 20 hours studying" for her tests because that's what she did in school. Her tone is snarky and it doesn't make you want to ask questions and just suffer in silence. Only plus about her is she offers extra credit on tests, homework, and quizzes.
Abort mission! Don't take this Professor! I wasted a semester by being in her class, it is way too much. The amount of homework she gives is ridiculous. She makes errors all the time and confuses you even more. She makes you erase your notes because the problems she makes up don't work sometimes. Extremely heavy lectures, pages and pages of notes.
Prof Knight gives lots of homework for 2 reasons: i.) almost half of those are extra credit and ii.) some of the harder questions on the homework show up in the actual test. She also gives a practice exam and lots of smaller worksheets for actual exam practice. Overall, a decent maths professor.
Miss Knight is accessible outside class and is capable of making a complex math problem easy to digest after explaining. She offers heaps of extra credit and encourages the class to work together for them.
She picks on you for small stuff and wasn't very friendly when you ask her to clarify. Her lectures wasn't great, even hard to follow on some days. Difficulty of each test is also inconsistent.
This teacher does not seem to care about making sure the students understand her notes. She is by the book however, so you will need to read the chapters to follow up her lectures. If you need help go to the math lab. She is utterly unavailable.
Shes a terrible professor and I wouldnt recommend her! even though she gives a lot of extra credit her test are so hard and she gives a lot of homework.
Pre Calculus with Ms. Knight will be one of, if not the hardest class youll take at DVC. There are numerous mistakes made during class, and she isnt the most friendly or patient when students dont understand. The day of the final, there were only 12 students left in class. I finished with a B, but be prepared to work like crazy to pass. Not easy
Lectures were sometime given half-heartedly, rushed through lectures. You lose point if you don't do problems exactly like the text book. Will gives you 5x5 matrices to see if you follow the book step by step.
Supper rude professor, will cuts you off and ignore your question if she doesn't feel like answering it. Gives lots of easy and tedious hw just for the sake of it. Lots of menial problems never shows up on exams or gets graded.
Don't take her. Lectures from textbook. Exams are entirely different. Take points off for small mistakes, extra credits means nothing. Her tests will destroy your grade.
She is very serious. She may not be the best, but she goes through the class knowing what she's talking about even though not everyone clearly understands it. There is basically homework everyday. You must come to class everyday because her lectures will help you study for test and finish assignments, unless you actually know what you're doing.
I used to enjoy math until now. Professor Knight does not teach. She expects students to already be at mastery level in her class. She is fast paced & just writes the rules & examples on the board. No explanations, no homework questions, rude to students, no time for students. compares this class to her graduate school. You have to teach yourself.
She is the CRAZIEST teacher at DVC that I will never ever recommend for other students. BEWARE with all her lectures are way too fast with loads of work in class and at home that is just worth 3 points. All appears in the exams are very tough that seems to be not for 191 level. YOU WON'T GET GOOD GRADES easily with her. She gave me anxiety everyday
Math 183 is a weeder class, so it is supposed to be tough, and Professor Knight makes it tougher and since she is the usually the only professor that is offered for Calc II, you have to take her. I worked hard for my B, I studied every day, did all of the homework, and I never skipped a class. Get ready to work for your grade.
The class was a horrible learning experience. She expects you to know everything when you take her class. Do not take this class if you dont learn well on your own. She writes notes on the board at a ridiculous pace and gives a lot of homework worth almost no points. I dont recommend taking her for any class. Glad I didnt need the class.
Her lectures are fast paced, resulting in many not listening and trying to catch up on notes. Maybe her time in Berkeley may be hurting community college students, as she likes to use methods she used from there. For the most part, you must learn the material yourself. Tough grader, deducts many points off minor errors. She does try though.
For most people i spoke to, it was a learn yourself class, but with help from ALL her handouts. She gives pre tests which are similar to the exams to study with solutions. She does care, if you need help, speak out. My advice would be to sit on her right, so you can keep up on notes easier, instead of waiting for her to move out the way.
Give an unnecessary test in the last class. Bad explaining for definition and theorem. make you feel she really spent little time in teaching but some extra credit. Tough and slow grader. Keep away from her class for your fee and time.
terrible! Give me the only B!!!
Be careful. I had a 93%+ grade before final. But I just got B finally.
Professor knight was one of the best professors I had during my time at Dvc! I definitely recommend her for all math classes
As a person with bad mad skills this was the only math teacher to ever give me an A in a math class. Test are similar to practice test and tries to make the final as simple as possible. Worksheets are extra credit and interactive. Lectures are simple like the test. STUDY THE PRACTICE TEST AND YOU'LL BE FINE. Practice problems on test at times 4EC
Never lets anyone ask questions, never is helpful or accessible outside of class, rushes through material and then expects you to know and understand the hardest problems when even the typical examples were rushed through. I am having to teach myself everything because all her lectures do is leave me confused and exhausted. Worst teacher of my life
She is very strict. A bit sarcastic. Not really a comforting person to go to for help. Homework from the textbook. Tests are difficult but she gives a practice test before it so I recommend going over it with a group of people from the class then trying the problems out yourself because that is how I passed. Don't miss class, ask questions often.
she teaches way too fast, as she never gives enough time to write down all the notes before she moves on to the next thing.
She was far and above the worst teacher I have ever had. I have never received anything other than A's and B's in all my math classes. In the past I really enjoyed math. She ruined it for me. She was very scattered and I almost felt sorry for her. At least three times a lecture she would mess up an entire problem. She should not be teaching.
Her teaching style implies you don't have any other classes and you've studied for hours prior to coming to lecture. The pace she moves at is ridiculously fast. Once in awhile she asks if we need to slow down, but still continues at the same pace. Too much homework and makes a lot of mistakes during lecture so notes are a mess.
the class is ab 2 hours and she goes by very fast. its difficult to pay attention to what shes saying since im always behind on what shes writing on the board and trying to understand it. not the best teacher ive had. expects you to understand right away n makes you work together n write on board. she gives practice tests which are helpful
I have never in my life experienced a teacher like this.I've always been good @ math&enjoyed it but this woman completely destroyed my passion for it. Calc 1 is already hard enough as it is but she really goes above and beyond to make it so much harder than it needs to be. I'm currently in calc 2 with a NORMAL TEACHER& it's significantly easier.
She has inaccessible office hours. Not a comforting person to be with. She gives out lots of homework and makes errors on her rushed lectures. Tests are difficult and expects you to come to class having learned everything beforehand. Always speaks with a harsh "Yes?! or Okay?!" during lectures. Be ready to learn everything on your own! AVOID HER!
Knight is possibly the best professor at DVC and tries to make is so that you can pass the class. She gives out 4 test and a final. Drops your lowest test and adds 25 extra credit point to your second lowest exam. You have 6 quizzes and drops your lowest on there. The test are similar to practice exam she gives in class.
She gives good opportunities to help pass class with extra credit and dropping of the test
You could have the write answer and the work to show for it and she will still find a way to take a point off of your answer. Don't even bother asking for help because you won't get it.
Took an onlince class with the professor and it was very homework heavy but it helped with the in person test. Professor didnt even show up to orientation, would always show up late to the test dates, cancelled one and made it a take home test. She does let you make a cheat sheet though. Didnt care to take the class seriously based on her attitude.
Mrs. Knight is a great teacher, her teaching style consists of showing actual problems rather than completely being conceptual. Shes got a tough shell but shes a sweetheart in the end!
25 points added to your lowest exam via extra credit worksheets, drops your lowest exam, gives practice exams which are similar to a test, test have extra credit options in case you can use for getting points back, gives partial credit, understandable, had her for 3 classes and I got A's in all of them and I'm ;m bad at math, overall a good deal!!!
A LOT of lecturing.
Professor Knight doesnt know how to teach an online class. I dont know how she is in person but trying to reach her as an online student is seemingly impossible. The semester is only 6 weeks long and she expects the students to be on top off HW and projects but the same standard isnt held to herself. Dont take unless you can make it to math lab
I took her class during the summer (6wks). In each session, she is discussing like 3 to 4 lessons. Even though she only have a short amount of time, she still teaches every detail for us to understand the process to solve the problem. Most professors just give you the problem and makes shortcuts, but she doesn't. She makes sure that we understand
This Professor is a little disorganized. However shes extremely generous and accommodating to her students in response to her awareness of this issue. I was a high school dropout and I received an A in an intensive summer stats course. I was only able to accomplish this from Prof. Knights outstanding accessibility. Do the work and youll be fine
Summer precalc with her was the hardest class I've ever taken. Lots of homework, be prepared to spend hours on it every night. Tests are very difficult, the questions require a deep understanding of the material which the homework doesn't always prepare you for. Focus on the worksheets for test prep because they're very similar. Buckle up
Do. Not. Take. Her. Been at DVC for 3 years and have had some bad professors, but none this bad. She hates teaching so much that she skips steps and zips through material as fast as possible so she can be done with it. 5 students told her show was moving too quickly and she said they arent suited for difficult classes making a girl cry. Warning.
I came here, saw her grade, and then decided to take her. Big mistake. She wasn't there the first class meeting, it took 2.5 weeks for her to respond to any emails, her responses are unhelpful and she'll stop responding altogether if you ask for more clarification. She has a total of 2.5 office hours a week, online is 1 hour. Good luck.
She will not take any mercy on you if you are really struggling. Sh told our class we would be failures do to the fact that most of us were getting Cs. When you tell her the homework was unreasonably long and you are only given two days to finish 3 chapters she blames it on you. She doesn't care if you're stressed unless you are crying.
If you are looking for an easy A, she is not the teacher for you. However, if you don't mind putting in the work needed to get the A, she's a great teacher and she loves it when you participate, so, if you want to be on her good side, participate. Also, you only need textbook for HW, there's a lot, but her notes are very organized, easy to follow.
Awful class, not very helpful when you don't understand a concept, treats you like a middle schooler with binder checks. Lots of homework, late for class and worksheets she hands out are rushed with many typos.
Honestly dont even know how this professor got her teaching degree. Lectures are boring, she basically just copies down her notes word for word. Always rants about how some things we do won't cut it at berkeley, like having phones in class. Worst teacher i have ever taken, though she does offer extra credit.
Unacceptable. Sorry to say but I really have learnt nothing from her class. Lots of HW and Exams.
To be short, her class is the TOUGHEST one I've ever experienced. Firstly, I would say she gave Her lecture speed is TOO FAST that no one can understand what is going on. I gained almost nothing from her lecture at least. Besides, the amount of homework she assigns is super overwhelming. You have to study SO SO SO HARD. It was THE HARDEST "A"!!!
This was by far the hardest class I have ever taken. Although I learned a lot, I had to teach myself many of the difficult concepts she skipped through and i don't think i could've done it if i didn't love math. There is an incredible amount of homework problems. Her lectures are very rushed and will snap at you if you try to ask a question.
Professor Knight is the best professor I have ever taken. If you want to learn math, she is the one to take. Professor Knight is very thorough and provides proofs to support all theorems. She is very organized and her notes are very thorough. She is a fair grader and gives sample exams to help you to prepare for exams.
Professor Knight is the best professor i have ever taken. She really wants you to learn the mathematics and seems to enjoy teaching. Her notes are so comprehensive that i don't have to read the book. I have transferred to UC Berkeley and I am definitely prepared and received an A in Math 52
I took Professor Knight for Math 192 and was definitely prepared for Math 193. She is very organized and gives lots of notes. She really wants her students to learn
Miss Knight is really nice. She gives worksheets in class that are treated as extra credit points. I took in and even though Math 191 was hard, I was definitely prepared for Math 192. I'm doing better than other students and receiving an A
Brought me tears with how stressful her homework was. It's so much in so little time. Many all nighters and coffee.
Professor Knight helped me to get into UC Berkeley. She will go the extra mile for her students. Her lectures are very detailed and she really wants her students to do well. She makes up her own worksheets and sample tests that help prepare you for tests.
I took Mrs Knight last summer for Math 191. Even though it was a summer intensive, I learned a lot. I was definitely prepared for Math 192 and I also ended up being a Math lab tutor. Her worksheets are great
From a straight A student, she should not be a teacher. She's disgustingly rude to all her students and extremely unaccommodating during the quarantine. Grades unexplainably unfair and confusingly. Scared to ask her for any help because she immediately gets annoyed you're interrupting her lecture. I'm sorry to any student she had during quarantine.
Professor Knight was a master class in how to display condescension towards ones students. I felt as though professor Knight showed her true colors when classes went online as she was perpetually clumsy, unorganized, and snappy. One must be able to understand her thought patterns otherwise they will be lost. Best to avoid this professor.
A large portion of the exams can be found on the worksheets. The worksheets are also extra credit towards your overall exam score. The professor drops your lowest exam score. She has very detailed lectures and does not teach only shortcut methods. It's not an easy A but you will learn a lot, while becoming confident and prepared for future classes.
I was taking MATH-182 with her during summer. Due to covid-19 the class was online. She is so rude and does not know how to work with a computer. Taking computer 101 must be mandatory for all teachers including her. She confirms that you uploaded a doc, but later says no, you forgot to upload! what!!? she ignores your messages from time to time ...
Stay away from this teacher. If you have no choice, then make sure to take screen shots of every interaction + chat. She changes her decisions every minute. Did I mention that she is rude? Was working on a HW for three days. Couldn't upload the HW due to a glitch, but emailed her; She did not accept my HW, as she does not care at all ...
Professor Knight is one of the most caring professors I have ever had. Linear Algebra was challenging for me, but her lectures helped so much and she was always available in office hours. Once, she even stayed on Zoom with me for 30 min and went over every page of my test-- I felt so much less stressed after. She makes sure no one falls behind!
Knight is the worst professor ever. She didn't tell students there grade from the first test we took in the class until over half way through the semester. She also never posts grades. Not a good teacher, hard to follow.
The worst professor I've ever had at DVC. Her lectures don't make sense, she makes too many mistakes while lecturing, and she's unnecessarily rude to students. She is slow to respond to emails, and extremely picky with formatting. Extreme amounts of homework (80 problems due next day) Avoid at all costs. She offers extra credit but it's not enough.
If you want to take math 193, you should choose this class. Professor Lynn Knight is a responsible teacher. She will give you lots of homework but those are worth to do tho!!! If you do them, you'll easily get an A in this class and you'll be ready for the math 193(calculus II). EXTRA PRACTICE EXTRA CREDIT.
I thought despite her harsh grading rubrics, I believe she taught well given the COVID-19 distance learning
Professor Knight is highly knowledgeable about math of all subjects(20yrs) Listen to her lectures, pay attention to her solutions, steps she takes, watch her draw diagrams/tables/charts and you will learn how to do math the way that she does which is EFFORTLESS! She wants you to succeed, so if u've ever struggled in math class, then she is the1 4 u
Worst professor ever. Believe me don't take with her you will be failed in all class.
This is the worst teacher in the DVC. I took her for the summer of 2020. she is the rudest and unorganized person I ever met. she will not reply to your email and she makes mistake all the time and students have to fix her plus very difficult exams and expect to see a ton of homework which will take you 10 hours to do. I managed to pass with a C.
I saw that some student has registered for her coming fall classes. I strongly warn you to drop her class and avoid her at all costs. She has 5 difficult exams plus a ton of hw every day. did I mention that she is very rude and will reply to your email for a week? Yes, I took her and almost failed and still regret. She doesn' post your grades too.
do NOT take this course. lots of lecture, lots of homework, did i mention the lectures are very fast paced and she mutes everyone in Zoom so no questions can be asked? went to her office hours outside of class, asked her about homework problems, she said "oh didnt mean to assign those whoops." joke of a class, and im doing pretty well. stay away
Big mistake taking this course. Ive never had a teacher make math more difficult. In between making mistakes every other example and being rude when asked questions, Professor Knight does it all. She offers some extra credit, but its basically required if you want to do well. Good luck
Ms Knight is the worst professor to have in your first year of college. She makes math incredibly harder than it needs to be. She is extremely RUDE to her students when they ask question. For example, you ask how did you get that part in answer? and shell point out the areas where it makes sense to here to prove she is right. I might drop it tbh
I did not learn anything from her class, not sure if it's the format (online learning) or because it's a math class but she makes it more difficult. She doesn't grade things on time meaning we're 11 weeks in and I have grades on 3 assignments. Amount of hw is doable if you understand material, you will be learning the material on your own.
gives unorganized review samples for tests throws homework problems at you constantly, ive done about 37 pages for one test lots of lecture and fast paced too, gets annoyed with questions gives some extra credit, but it is basically required if you want to pass good luck lol
I'm generally good at math so the class wasn't too bad. She gives out a lot of extra credit on the homework and tests, and gives out several take-home quizzes/tests that are open note. She follows the textbook very closely and gives out a ton of homework (that's barely worth anything compared to tests). Lectures are recorded.
As a freshman in college, math has never been made more daunting to me than it has in this course. I did very well in pre-calc in high school, and those skills are not very transferrable to this course. Prof knight lectures a lot (not great lectures), assigns tons of hw, and is rude and impatient. only good thing is some open note quizzes.
the fact that i dread tuesday/thursday mornings solely because i have to attend professor knights class is pretty depressing. while i'm not the greatest at calc, she DOES NOT make it any easier. her "teaching" consists of telling you things she knows as if you know it too, breezing by important concepts under the impression students know it. AVOID
She's an okay teacher, but she is totally tech illiterate. Normally this wouldn't matter, but as long as we're still in quarantine, keep in mind that she does not know how to manage a zoom class, and uses a small physical whiteboard in the background of her camera. If you're okay with that, it's fine, but I figure it's something to mention
Lynne knows calc but shouldn't be called Prof, no pedagogy. love calc, hate her class. Im patient, studious, but she gave me anxiety. Not accessible out of class, is picky about insignificant things, difficult person, rude to everyone! She's like a machine gun first thing every morning, very unmotivating. does not grade on time or correct answers
Prof. Knight is far from being a decent professor. Her lectures are unorganized and she gets annoyed easily. The class started full and by the end of the semester, only a few remained. She procrastinates on her grading until the last day to submit final grades. You are required to have cameras on at all time during class. AVOID HER AT ALL COST!
Makes many mistakes while teaching and since everything is online now she tries to teach on a VERY small whiteboard that you can barely see. Not very quick with technology, she once forgot she muted us and taught the whole thing without checking in once. Does not have a very friendly disposition. Would not recc
I advise you to pass on this professor. I was not aware there was a mandatory zoom class Tues/Thurs, it was not noted on the registration for it. Tests and quizzes are taken with cameras on zoom. She cannot use the app properly so she is constantly screaming at students to not talk or talks down to them if they don't understand problems and rushes.
Worst teacher Ive ever had! Rude, obnoxious, intimidating, highly inflexible, hates teaching ! A total nightmare
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR. Most annoying voice physically possible, makes nails on a chalkboard sound like bliss. Writes on a tiny whiteboard, CONSTANTLY erasing it so its very annoying to try and decipher her garbage handwriting for the maybe 5 femto-seconds its on the board. She complains EVERY SINGLE DAY about how students show up late. Its Cancer.
One of the worst teachers I've ever had. Zooms through lecture, which is just clearly her copying down her notes. Skips through the work and if you ask a question she just says it is because it is. Seems to be rather tech illiterate, and has clearly struggled to make the transition of online instruction. I wish I dropped this class. Stay away!
Literal torture, ridiculous amounts of homework. If you have no other choice but to take her good luck and start homework in advance
She will make you hate math, but math is great, it's just that she should not be teaching at all. You can't see what she writes, she give u no time to copy what she writes. She literally skips concepts all the time so it's impossible to know what she is doing unless u already know linear algebra. Her voice is horrible and she dumps work on you
I took Professor Knight for Math 191 and Math 192. She gives really good lectures and her class is fun. We did a lot of group work which helped us to learn the concepts. I am now at UC Berkeley and I'm doing really well in my math classes. Professor Knight met with me outside of her office hours to help me and encouraged me to apply to UC Berkeley.
Honestly, if I hadn't already done Calculus 1 beforehand, I wouldn't have passed her class. She assigned way too much homework, and she would even add in extra problems to the homework the day before it was due without informing us that she had done so, nor did she tell us ahead of time. About 95% of the class was lost about halfway through.
Prof. Knight is super disorganized and her tests are impossible. She gives a lot of extra credit but if you dont do it, it will be hard to pass. She grades unfairly. It dose not matter if you get the right answer, she will grade it wrong depending on how she feels. Or! if you used her special method Right. Knight should not be teaching period.
I caught COVID about 3 weeks before the summer classes start. I am still recovering, therefore I told her I might miss couple lectures. I show her my test result. She simply said "You will be dropped from this course" without any greeting. Nvm the teaching skill, she doesn't even care about student, no courtesy at all.
I feel like the only reason someone would complete her class is because of insane desperation to get credit for finishing calculus class. Not learning, not inspiration, not preparation for the outside world. Being mean on the internet behind the mask of anonymity is small but I'm still okay with saying I have no idea how she has her job.
3 words to describe this class: pain and suffering. You wake up on Tues/Thurs, and the day is already ruined due to this class. The amount of hw is absurd for this class. Literally over 50 pages of scanning, and cherry on top, she adds more problems on the night before. If you know the material, class is not that bad, if not, pain. Extra credit tho
This class was the worst and most stressful math class I have ever taken. Material itself isn't difficult, but the way it was taught discouraged learning and was unbearable. The amount of hw given is ridiculous, we had no access to communicate with other students, and were not allowed calculator use. I encourage you to choose anyone else.
Due to this class being 3 weeks long I knew it was going to be challenging, however that is an understatement. This is the most stressful thing I have ever done. She sprints through lectures with tons of mistakes, assigns tons of homework, no office hours, and expects us to learn material day before test. Spare yourself and grade, do not take her!
Im a rising senior in college and Professor Knight is the hardest and worst teacher I've ever had in my life. She assigns a cruel amount of homework to the point where 100% of your time is spent on this class. And despite heavy doing all the work and studying thoroughly, her grading is so impossible that it's impossible to get a grade you deserve.
Professor Knight is very knowledgable about Calculus and I think that despite her demeanor she doesn't want to fail anyone and gives a lot of extra credit. She is not a good teacher. Not tech savvy, gives a lot of work. More interested in her agenda than helping students understand the math. Rough demeanor and makes mistakes, which is confusing!
Professor Knight was great. She gives a lot of hw but she also gives a lot of extra credit, making this class much easier to get the grade you want. I took 3 weeks summer class and when you spend an adequate amount of time, you will easily get an A. I would take her class again if I have a chance!
I cannot recommend this professor, mostly because her grading is very unclear and she harshly penalizes the smallest mistakes. Doing a single problem slightly different from the way taught got me a C on a test. Besides that, her lectures are not very helpful and she requires cameras to be on at all times for no apparent reason. Avoid if possible.
Summer 2021, 3 week class. Coursework: Homework (20%), Participation Worksheet (5%), 4 Tests, drops the lowest one (45%), Final Exam (30%). 15 hours of weekly lectures (half synchronous - half asynchronous). Be prepared to spend another 15hrs weekly for HW and study. Honestly, the tests are easy & straightforward + she gives a lot of extra credit!
Lots of homework (3+ hours/day), graded mostly on completion. There's a practice test before each exam, and if you just want a good grade, be sure you really understand it. Tests are easy, and extra credit opportunities are extremely generous. Isn't a harsh grader, rarely took points for small things. The class is an easy A if you put in the work.
Legit the worst teacher I have ever had. I forgot to show one little piece of work for a question and I got the entire question marked wrong. On top of that, she is so inconsistent with grading. I checked my work with someone else and they had very similar work except she said that I used the wrong "technique" and got that wrong. So much homework.
Calc is already hard to understand, but this professor makes learning it 5x worse. On top of her confusing lectures, she gives a ridiculous amount of hw. I procrastinate a lot, so the hw usually takes 3 days to complete w/ 70 pgs. I knew calc before, but for those who don't, gl :D. On the plus side, lots of EC on tests. Choose another prof if u can
Ok teacher, her canvas navigation is absolutely terrible which makes the experience a lot worse with you take her online. She give good extra credit and bonus test points and drop your lowest test.
Taking Math-192 with Prof Knight was one of the worst experiences of my life. The homework was the worst; on average I was doing about 70 pages of hw every hw assignment (that's NOT an exaggeration). She also does not care about you, your future, or your wellbeing. It was because of this class and this professor that I had my first panic attack.
Overall this class isnt too bad. The lectures are easy to follow, and the test are the same as the lecture problems. Only con is the insane amount of homework. Get ready if you take this class you will have about 200 problems of math problems due for every test, youll use half a notebook.
This is definitely the toughest professor I have ever met. I cannot accept that I still don't know the results of my first homework a week before the final exam. Every assignment needs to be handwritten, and of course those questions can be replaced by online software. There are almost 70 pages of handwriting in each assignment. Don't choose her.
She has managed to combine the worst of in-person and online learning into this abomination of a course. The course is structured in a way that makes it difficult to communicate with other students and kills collaboration. She imposes very strict and non-sensical deadlines while also being unable to grade anything in a reasonable time period.
This class was probably the worst experience I've ever had in a math class. This professor has somehow managed to create a system where you can do things wrong and then never find out until she posts grades two days before the final. On top of that, she grades harshly, so if you can't just be perfect then expect to lose points for tiny things.
Excessive homework, confusing explanations, difficult exams, and will not be graded in time. The only advantage is that you have extra credits in hw, quiz, exam, participation and worksheet for this class. However, some extra credits on the exam are difficult to obtain, because you will not have enough time for you to think about how to solve the p
Although I HATED going to this class, looking back it wasn't too bad. Professor Knight had about 3 hour lectures 4 days a week, cameras on, and lots of homework. Since it was calculus accelerated over the summer, I guess it makes sense. She gives extra credit, an A is definitely obtainable, and if you show up and do the homework, you will learn.
Took online class Summer 2021 for calc 1. She is kinda mean and her voice is like nails on a chalkboard but her class was very fair. Tests were very much like examples in class and there were a lot of extra credit opportunities. If she is your only option take her, an A is very possible but you will hate this class. Not the worst teacher for sure.
Without a doubt the most amount of homework i've ever done was for this class. All of the homework was straight from the textbook, and she would assign so much of it. I strongly recommend avoiding this class if you work a lot of hours or if you are planning on having other courses such as chemistry and physics in the same semester.
Professor Knight demonstrates a lack of cognition in each one of her lectures since she constantly confuses herself. Her lecture voice will test your patience; partial credit almost doesn't exist. Be prepared to spend 6 hours+ on busywork HW. Saving grace: she drops the lowest test and quiz. You'll do well and but will have a bad time.
Lots of homework. Her lectures are not that good and are a bit unclear. However, don't skip her lectures!!! She often gives out extra credits and quizzes during class. Her exams are easy, almost exactly like the practice exam. Study on the practice exam, and you can get a good score. She will also drop the lowest test.
She is such a bad teacher. Has four-hour-long lectures where you can't understand anything. The tests are nothing like the homework. The homework takes at least 5-7 hours every day to complete. DO NOT TAKE.
Professor Knight delivers some of the most confusing lectures ever. She also assigns a lot of homework that can take 3-5 hours to complete. The saving grace: she drops the lowest score.
Not the worst professor, but far from the best. You need to listen to her lectures, stay up to date on homework, and study for several hours each night. If you do this and follow her practice tests, you should do okay.
Professor was very confusing whenever she was in lecture; lecture classes would consist of around 4-5 practice examples and the other half of the time she is just using letters. This makes it extra confusing because you cannot differentiate when you are solving problems (practice) or when you are doing a proof, or just using letters for format.
She is not as bad as she seems. Linear Algebra is a difficult class in general, so be expected to pay attention in class. I had her for a three-week session (brutal I know). When homework was too much, she was willing to generously cut it down. Take advantage of the extra credit because it makes a difference. Don't be afraid to ask questions, too.
I took Linear Algebra with her during the summer and she was one of the best teachers I've ever had. There is a lot of homework and a lot of note taking, but all of it is beneficial to you if you do them. She even drops an exam.
Get ready to do a lot of homework if you take any of her classes. Even though there is a lot of homework, she says that the homework is beneficial to us, and I can definitely agree. She drops an exam and is even willing to lower the amount of homework if the majority of the class agrees to.
Professor Knight knows her material, however she is quite slow to mark things other than tests and homework. There were 3 exams + 1 take-home and they were all straightforward and similar to the practice tests. Beware, there is a ton of homework in this class, however, it prepares you strongly for the tests. Lots of extra credit given out on tests.
Old school professor. She isn't too tech savvy but knows her way around and that ultimately costs you. No WebAssign or any other online homework. You open the textbook and complete 75-100 time-consuming problems before the test. As other have said, confusing/ harsh grader that seemingly becomes more compliant with students that talk a lot in class.
Very homework heavy but it's the best way to get comfortable with the material. She gives a lot of extra credit in the form of bonus review and drops the lowest exam score. I would definitely recommend her class; she wants her students to succeed and gives a lot of resources to help you do so.
she does not make math easy to understand at all
Professor is a good lady: this is unbiased experience. Long boring lectures/fast paced/unhelpful professor/5 test similar to sample test/ 6 quizzes/ participation points/ bonus work to boost grades/ unsympathetic professor/always makes mistakes Tough class overall. if you NEED HELP with math,DO NOT take this professor. If youre good at math take
The group work she has you do in class is very helpful especially if you get a good group of people. Her exams are very similar to the group worksheet problems or examples done in class, so if you want to do well on her exams make sure to pay attention and take notes on those specific problems.
Dont take unless you have no other option. If you have no other option goodluck. If you understand calculus, you will do well, if you struggle with calculus its best to steer clear of this professor.
she is a great professor, she is a gigachad though and moves through things at a fast pace with a lot of efficiency, tests are similar to homework problems and are quite fair in my opinion, if you struggle with math then it might not be worth it but if you excell at math she will make courses like calc 2 pretty easy
DO not take if you are not good at math. If you are good at math still do not take her. She is not that tech savvy and she will make math horrible.
Quite possibly the worst professor I have taken at DVC and that speaks volumes. You will not be able to contact her directly or receive actual feedback for your tests. Grades very strangely and will dock points for not using theorems she specified to use. HW via webassign, online lecture videos are not by her and are random youtube videos.
I'm an auditory learner and I struggled with her board heavy teaching. When asked for the teachers notes so I can better follow along, she told me to rewatch the recorded lectures... Since I cannot understand the lectures to begin with, this was not helpful. She was not open to helping me learn outside of lecture time or open to questions.
had her for half of the semester, but her lectures go by very quickly. i'd say if you have a good foundation and excelled in calc 1, you will be fine, but if not, i advise you to not take her. she drops lowest quiz and exam and provides extra credit in the test. homework is harder than the exam itself.
3 week summer session. 4 homework assignments 3 tests and a final. Don't skip class, her lectures, although boring at times, are very helpful. Decent amt of homework but if you understand it well you'll be fine. Tests are almost exactly like the samples ones she gives and the final had questions from both HW and tests. Easy A if you put in the work
Prof. Knight's summer session has an extremely heavy workload but is doable. Lectures during zoom sessions are easy to understand and clear, but expect two homework assignments due each night. Pretty generous with extra credit, on both exams and assignments, but extra credit assignments are typically loaded with questions that make them difficult.
Her Canvas page is a mess, she's not accessible out of class, speeds through topics, will insult you if you don't know or ask questions, and overall she does not care about you. I got her because she was the only available Calc class and she ignored every one of my emails when I was trying to register for weeks. Regret taking her. AVOID
She doesn't care much, and it shows. Online course, 4 in-person tests, and she never showed up. Bad with Canvas, course is very disorganized and no clear communication. Doesnt put Grades into Canvas, so you have no idea what your grade looks like until the last week. Often ignores emails. She seems decently nice over zoom, but overall doesn't care.
Can't teach, all the lectures feel as if she was rambling on and on. You're not allowed to take pictures of the board for notes???
Very monotone, she moves very fast, sometimes it feels like I cant take notes because im more focused on catching up than actually learning. ALOT of homework. Most of the learning will be on your own. Mandatory to show up, but she has a sub half of the time, ironic. Heavy no phone policy, and no taking pics of the board… doesnt make sense to me.
If you are thinking of taking Calc with this professor, do not. She is late on every assignment, doesn't respond to emails, and never shows up to tests. Her lectures are other peoples YouTube videos, and she is always weeks behind on posting them. She also adds curriculum last minute before every test. Terrible experience.
Her lectures are super fast and doesn't come half of the semester. Tons of hw.
Goes fast during lecture but this is my only complaint. If you go to class and do the homework for each unit as you learn the topics, you'll succeed. She assigns the homework for each test at the beginning of the unit, it's a good amount of problems but if you complete them as you learn it's doable. Assigns one take home quiz per test. Lots of EC.
The worst professor I've had at dvc. Canvas page was super unorganized, online lectures moved way too fast and was hard to keep up. She erases notes before students could write them down. Usually don't explain things twice because it was 'on recording.' The tests weren't too hard, but the overall experience was just really bad.
Pros: Tests are replicas of in-class assignments. Gives a lot extra credit opportunities before a test. Cares about participation because she does care about success within her students. Cons: Absent for around half of the semester. Not very tech savvy. Lectures were fast but always led class till the very end. Had to pay to access assignments.
literally the worst professor i've ever had. didn't show up to half our classes, but when i missed one class she wouldn't give me a paper she handed out. showed up to her office hours and she wouldn't take me because it was raining outside ??? you'll regret taking her class fr
This professor was extremely kind and encouraging. I like her teaching style as she completes as many examples as possible. She lets you ask questions and does a good job of answering them. Also, there is a gracious amount of extra credit and the dropped test really lowered my stress levels while taking this class. Wish I could take her again.
Fast-paced summer class with strict same-day participation deadlines. Teaching is mostly just solving problems, making it hard to follow. Professor can be rude to questions and grades only at semester end. Homework costs $55 after a short trial. Practice tests help, and extra credit is given for participation. Difficult class; not recommended.
Didn't like this class, but not the worst class I've taken. Lectures were on tiny whiteboard. Attendance was mandatory or drop. She does give a generous amount of extra credit, both on hw and tests. She does try to go over as many examples as possible. Honestly, without the extra credit, I probably would have been doomed. Lots of hw.
She is awful! I took her class, and her exams were way too hard. Everyone was stressing because even she couldn't solve the problem on the board. She got confused, erased everything, and we had to start all over again. It was so frustrating and felt like a total waste of time! and she takes forever to grade our homework's and exams.
Lynn Knight did not show up to the class for around 4 weeks. She teaches extremely quickly - to the point where you can't understand what she's saying or writing. She gets the questions wrong as well. Don't take a picture of the whiteboard or else she'll blow a gasket! She's seriously afraid of cameras. Tough exams but offers extra credit.
Literally did not meet her until the 2nd to last week. Absolutely no preparation, guidance, or reminders for concepts and homework. Final exam was so bad people were collecting signatures to report her to the dean. Do not take her unless you are absolutely confident you can teach yourself and never have to use linear algebra.
This professor does't allow taking notes picture on blackboard.
