Dr. McWhorter is by far the best history teacher I have ever had! He is extremely kind and caring towards his students and wants them to succeed! We have 4 exams and a final, which he drops the lowest test grade. Dr. McWhorter also does not like to use textbooks so no required readings before class. Attendance is NOT mandatory.

He posted his lecture videos on canvas and you could watch them at your own pace. He is super laid back and kind to his students. This class is made up of 4 tests only and no other assignments.

Honestly, one of my favorite professors at Auburn! I genuinely enjoyed all of the things I learned in this class. I missed one of his exams because I took my sister to the hospital and Dr. McWhorter was very understanding of the situation and worked with me so that I could make up the exam. He does cover a lot in his lectures, so take good notes.

As long as you write down what he says you are good to take the class and pass. He is very understanding and wants everyone to pass. The slides from the lectures have about 90% of the test material in them. The other 10% is from stuff that he talks about in class. There is a ton of material covered in each test so studying notes/slides is crucial to get a good grade.

This class really is not very hard. Showing up to class is important but it's ok if you miss a day he is a very understanding professor. It is usually very obvious what information will be on the test as he will repeat the information several times. The TA also had review sessions before the test that were very helpful.

Dr. McWhorter was a good first history professor for me at Auburn. His lectures are long and each unit has about 120+ slides for the lecture. He is entertaining and tries to keep his students engaged. I would recommend going to SI sessions before exams if offered because they help tremendously

His history 1010 is an easy class and the LA goes over test material in the exam review session. Attendance isnt mandatory because he provides the slides on canvas but he will say additional things in class that you'll want to know for the tests, so you want to go. Your grade consists of 4 tests and there is a lot of material to cover to start studying early. He is very accessible during office hours and more than willing to help if you need.

I took HIST 1020 in Fall 2022 Semester. He use powerpoint in the class. Almost of it is easy, but something is to abstract, so I had to ask him about that. I think his class is very good.

This professor and his TA's did a great job delivering this course's material to their students. Dr. McWhorter is very lecture heavy, but that is not a bad thing in this case because his lectures are very interesting. His tests are multiple choice, but you are informed clearly on what information is important before the test before you take it.

Professor McWhorter is a very thorough professor; he posts all material (power-points) at the beginning of the semester and they are extremely helpful for the exam. He keeps his lectures light and engages students, making the material memorable.

Dr. McWhorter's class was so fun to be apart of. He made the lectures very interesting. Attendance is not mandatory, but it is highly encouraged to attend because he says information that is not on the powerpoint, but will possibly be on the exam. Professor McWhorter is a fantastic lecturer who is passionate about the material that he teaches, this is evident in his lectures. The goal of his lectures is to help students make mental connections with the material as this is the best way to score well on exams. It's worth noting that the exams are somewhat confusing in their question format.

You should be able to get a pretty good grade as long as you show up to class and take notes, but he does put all the slides on Canvas. I enjoyed this course, but all of the final grade came from 4 tests, which made it difficult if you are not the best test taker. He was very easy to understand during lectures, and very accommodating if there were schedule complications for tests. Overall I really nice professor, just wish there was more assignments to help boost grades.

Love the guy but he screwed me at the very end. Carried an A all semester and then for the final, he made it impossible. Both TA's said they would've failed the exam. I went to office hours and showed effort throughout the semester and he wouldn't give me a one point curve to an A. Only B all semester.

If you pay attention to lectures and study for a few days before exam you will be fine. He does get sidetracked on lectures which gets annoying but overall he is a solid professor.

I loved Dr. McWhorter. Literally just go to class and actually listen/take notes, then study a couple days before the exam and it's so easy to get a good grade. I record what he would say and go back and listen to the relevant parts because he does say A LOT of irrelevant stuff, but somehow it actually goes with material. I took Dr. McWhorter over the summer online and the class was very easy! He allows you to use your notes on the exam, and all 4 exams consist of 50 MC questions and that is the only thing we were graded on. If I can take him for World History 1020 in the spring, I definitely will!

Super cool guy! He obviously loves history and everything about it. There is also no classwork or homework, which I saw as somewhat of a downside at first because your only four grades are the exams. However, the exams are super simple and straight from the slides. I even got a 100 on one of the exams. So, just go to class and use quizlet!

Dr. McWhorter is the best. I took him last summer for 1010 and this summer for 1020. I will finish both classes with a 98+. The class is only graded by 4 exams, all MC, and he allowed us to use our notes on all 4. He posts the PPTs so you can take the exams without watching the lectures, but he adds a lot more info on his videos, so watch them!
