I'm not a fan of biology, and I'm still not just because I'm not very good at it. But, Lynn helped me gain interest in biology and think again about how wasteful lifestyle.

She really is like a mom. She's so nice and so so willing to give extra help. I'm not good at biology, and I don't really like it that much. But I've never had a prof that is as concerned as Lynn as having students do well. You can tell that she really cares, and I enjoyed being able to be her student!

Lynn was an amazing professor for Biol 140. You are really lucky if you get her. She brings you baked goods to classes! The course itself is awful, and is just a necessary evil towards pretty much any Biology degree. It's only 2 credits, but there are a lot of research papers and assignments to complete.

This woman cares about her students' wellbeing and education than the students themselves. Get to know her. Smile. Ask tons of questions. She's an amazing prof.

She was emphatic about staying late to help students, and passionate about teaching biology. Textbooks: helpful to get a heads-up on understanding the concepts before the lectures, but not super necessary. Save your money, borrow books!

Absolutely fantastic professor! I had her for BIOL140 in the Summer. She was extremely enthusiastic about what she taught, and she truly cared about student performance and ensuring students were engaged in what was being taught. I wish I could take more courses with her!

Prof Lynn is a real angel. She has good slides and provides many worksheets for students to learn the course material. She asks for feedback and tries her best to accommodate to them. She often makes time for her students even outside office hours if you need extra help. She is super caring and will be easy to talk to. Brings food to class!

Dr. Norman is the most caring and kindhearted person I've met. She is so considerate, understanding, and is an absolute angel. Dr. Norman genuinely wants her students to do well and will go above and beyond to make sure that the class has all the resources to succeed. Lynn is by far the sweetest prof you'll ever meet. She mostly reads directly from the slides, but makes it interesting by giving real life examples. Slides posted on Canvas and the worksheets are really helpful for the midterms/final. Lynn gives lots of opportunities for you to do well and has bonus questions on the exams. LOVE HER!

Lynn is arguably one of the best profs I've had at UBC. On top of the fact that she's an amazing lecturer, she cares so much about her students. Her notes and explanations are very clear and she definitely covers all the material that will be on the exams. She also brings us snacks. 100% loved being in her class.

She listens to feedback (someone told her her lectures were boring so she started telling jokes in the middle of each lecture) and honestly tries her best for her students. The main aspects of Prof Norman is that she is a great teacher who really cares about her students. She really sets you up for success, and she makes sure you know everything you need to know for the class. Thought I hated bio until I had her. Always makes sure to be accessible outside class and goes way above and beyond for her students.

She wasn't my instructor for BIOL140, but she was the course moderator, and extremely helpful! She was super active on Piazza, and answered all our questions. A fantastic teacher who wants the best for her students. BIOL140 wasn't an easy course (a lot of work!) but I have so much respect for Lynn.

Dr. Norman is very caring and provides office hours frequently to get extra help. Her slides are straight forward and she keeps class entertaining. I highly recommend taking bio with her!

Lynn Norman cares about her students and wants everyone to do well. She clarifies when people don't understand, which can slow down the class, but it is really helpful. We used Piazza for online questions after class and she answered nearly every one (TAs got the rest). Grading can be tough (use all info/terms learned when explaining!).

Professor Lynn is such a sweetheart, she answers questions thoroughly and her lecture slides are good. I would retake her class any day.

It's physically impossible to dislike Lynn Norman. She is the nicest prof ever and is certainly one of the most effective at making lectures enjoyable, despite online classes. I had her for BIOL 121 and BIOL 140, and she was very accessible out of class for both courses, and answered questions well. To me, she's the very model of the ideal prof.

Dr. Norman is honestly the best teacher. I didn't think I would like this class but I ended up loving it. She is very understanding and gives you loads of material to practice from for exams. Lynn is a good professor but I think that making the switch to online was really tough for her. Regardless, she is a good lecturer so if she can figure out the tech issues then she would be a great professor.

I love Lynn. What a great human and also a really great prof that knows her content inside out. Take Bio 121 with her and you won't regret it. She is so passionate about ecology and what she does -- it's contagious!

Overall Lynn was a fantastic professor and I am going to miss her a lot. She was and probably will be my favourite professor because she really cared if the students understood what content she was talking about. I remember that she would hold additional office hours really late at night sometimes to help out students with different time zones.

I had Lynn during the pandemic, and took her class online. She was so understanding, helpful, & caring. She held office hours after every lecture, which made it super easy to ask questions when the material was still fresh. She covered a lot of interesting material, and was by far my favourite teacher. Lynn is the best prof you'll ever have!! She made this virtual term very enjoyable:)) Her lecture slides are very detailed with a bunch of fun biology side facts. Her exams are super fair, on the easy side as long as you go to most of her classes. All material tested is covered in class, no need to do extra readings or work unless you want to.

Prof Lynn is amazing! She genuinely cares about her students and always listens to feedback. She wants you to succeed so she gives LOTS of practice that will help you succeed for midterms and finals. Other assignments and projects are also given in order to take less percent weighting off of the midterm. Definitely take BIOL 121 with her!

My best Professor yet. Outstanding communication and full of life. The kind of person Id actually want to be friends with. I do have to mention she got super stressed/disorganized at the end of the term, but it was her first time teaching bio121/online learning, and I think she did a great job

Lynn is the kindest prof ever. Her lectures were easy to understand and she's super clear on what is testable material. The course average this term was a scarily high 86, and we were told our section consistently scored the best out of all the other sections. Her exams are not very difficult and all course content is 100% based off of her slides.

Simple and specific: Best class I have taken in university. Other professors could learn from this teaching team. Less concise: The professor and the course revived my dying love for biology and ecology. She is the most caring, kind, adapting professor I have ever had and her passion for the class is very apparent. Lectures are clear, tests-fair.

Dr. Norman is a very caring and fair professor; she would often move back deadlines for students and she is very accessible through office hours, with additional office hours near midterm/exam season. She is very fair to students and is clear with what the expectations are for the quizzes, midterms and finals.

Dr. Norman is truly one of the GOATs of first year science. She is extremely caring and thoughtful to all of her students, and often even stays after class to chat with her students (me lol) about topics from and outside of class. She is a wonderful prof and I would love to experience BIOL121 with her again.

Lynn is amazing. Her lectures are very engaging, and she is very passionate about the topics she teaches. She is available all of the time outside of class (even late at night) and her jokes in class make the lectures that much more interesting. She's very passionate about the course however includes a bunch of non-testable material which does derail the actual testable material. the slides can sometimes be confusing to follow. Otherwise she is a very good prof and does give a solid basis of the material

She also lets you know exactly what is testable and what is not on her slides/in class. Attending/listening in class will let you succeed in her tests.

Lynn was an excellent professor who values the students learning over grades. She tries her best to help her students to succeed and makes everything clear and easy to follow. Assignments have reasonable due dates with the option of possible extensions should the class come to a consensus that they need more time and Lynn will grant that extension.

I had Lynn this summer and she was one of the best profs I had, she def has a 5 star rating for a reason. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Norman. Her lectures and expectations are always clear. There is a worksheet and quiz due every week, but they are not difficult. There are 2 midterms and a final, which were all straightforward. Lynn also clearly cares for her students, replies promptly to emails and stays up until midnight before tests!

Lynn is very sweet and clearly loves what she teaches! She always makes sure students are aware of the expectations for the class. There are a lot of things that you are graded on so I'd say you are able to pass the class if you do well in the homework/quizzes and the group project, even if you don't do as well on the midterms or final.

The most caring and compassionate prof I have met at UBC, it is truly a pleasure to be in her class. Take advantage of many bonus points and her flexible grading scheme. I never once read the textbook, didn't buy it, everything testable is available in class.

Lynn was the greatest prof ever! She is so kind and you can really tell she cares about her students and their success in the course. She makes it clear what is expected of you and how you can do well. She is very funny and super understanding. I only wish she taught upper level courses so I could have her again!

Lynn has been my fav prof at ubc. She cares a lot for her students and is super understanding. Slides always say if something is not on the exam so you know exacly what you'll be tested on. She also held a super useful final review session that make the exam much less stressful. Lynn also makes some really funny corney jokes in class :)

Lynn makes the concepts really easy to understand, is super approachable, and is very clear about what is and isn't on the exam. I was worried about bio, but it turned out being my best class! There's a textbook for the course, but you don't really need it. She responds super quickly on piazza. She'd stay up till midnight answering questions.

Lynn was an amazing BIOL 121 prof! She really cared about the wellbeing of her students, and if you were ever late to submit an assignment just send her an email and it would be sorted out right away. Super caring, sweet and had hilarious slides to brighten up the day at 8am for her 1.5hr block!

Lynn is one of the sweetest profs you'll ever meet. Livestreams and records all her lectures so you don't really have to attend the actual lectures which is great. Super nice, easy to reach out to, and very flexible on marks to make sure you get a decent mark. Seems like everyone loves her

Lynn is such a nice professor, she'll bring cookies for the class and also cares about her students a lot. She'll push back due dates if we're struggling to meet them and she is so easy to access outside of class too. Side note -- her Biol121 classes had a different final than the other section. Highly recommend taking this course with her!

Lynn is my all time favourite professor so far! Incredibly caring, articulate, and knowledgeable. She makes the content seem easy and actually listens to feedback. The only advice I have is to go to office hours even if you don't have questions because she goes through the worksheets and is great help! Good luck!

Lynn is one of the sweetest people I have ever met! She is very kind and easy to meet with outside of class and makes you feel very comfortable and treats you with respect. Her lectures are interesting, sometimes the pace is slightly slow and doesn't go quite enough into depth but its not a problem if you attend office hours... GO TO RORY'S (TA)!!!

THE BEST professor I had in first year. She would frequently have LONG office hours, was incredibly helpful with questions, and was extremely forgiving with due dates and such. Super friendly and understanding, and also passionate about biology! Grading criteria was quite forgiving, because she clearly cares more about you learning than stressing.

The prof is amazing. She is considerate of your course work and gives reasonable deadlines. She sets clear expectations for the classes through learning objectives and states if something is clearly going to be on the exam. The quizzes and worksheets in these classes are a grade booster. You can do well if you understand the lecture slides.

I LOVE LYNN. Genuinely my favorite professor in the whole of UBC. Lynn continues to show immense care for her students and really loves to help them succeed. Amazing feedback, communication, and just general teaching made this class SO AMAZING. she made me fall in love with science again. I recommend 110%.

Lynn is my fav prof for BIOL. She is a clear instructor and always cares about her students. Lots of resources are given for preparation for exams. This course is not content heavy so if you go to lectures and read thru slides you will do great.

Lynn is the sweetest woman ever. She posts both pre and post class slides for every lecture and her exams are predictable. She posts many practice exams and is very friendly regarding extensions.

She is truly the most caring professor!! She will always reach out to you whenever you need help, and do her best to keep everything fair. Very well organized lectures, and very clear marking rubric. She'll explain how you should answer written questions to get full marks, and make sure you pay attention to that!!

Lovely teacher, and wonderful to talk to outside of class. There is a lot of content, but if you put in even a bit of work it will show. Weekly homework, but it is very digestable and relevant to what you need to know for the midterms.

Lynn is school mom. She is very helpful & highly accommodating to everyone's needs.

Be warned that the lectures are very heavy, but its worth it because there's no pre-readings or anything like that. She's an amazing teacher who's very caring towards ALL her students and she gives plenty of leeway depending on your circumstances. She explains all topics perfectly and her assignments are all related to the exams.

Dr. Norman speaks out of the kindness of her heart. Although our lectures were in the morning, she empathizes with students. Her kind personality shows out in the lecture slides and Canvas messages. It is evident that she cares about building rapport with students. She gives plenty of office hours beyond what's required. Thank you Dr. Norman!

Dr. Lynn Norman is a loving and outstanding professor! She genuinely cares about her students and wants them to succeed. The exams for this course were relatively easy but required lots of explanations. I would say the first exam was the most difficult. I would highly suggest choosing her as a prof if you are interested in BIOL 121!

Dr. Lynn is such a caring prof! Even though I did not receive a stellar grade, I can tell that she wants her students to succeed! My lower grade was definitely because I didn't take the chance to ask her questions, which she loves answering, lol. I hope Dr. Lynn also teaches upper-year classes because I'd love to be in her class again. Love her.

Super nice professor who tries to give you the absolute best chances of success in the course. Slideshows are super useful, assignments and weekly quizzes are relevant but not punishing, and interesting case studies give deeper insight into the materials. Final exam was extremely straightforwards. If you need this class, take it with her.

Lynn was a really sweet prof she's always ready to improve and accessible outside of class. She puts a lot of effort even the night before exams for answering questions. Quizzes are straightforward with lots of time. Content is lecture heavy but she's helpful in extending deadlines. Overall would highly recommend!

Lynn is so nice and does everything to make sure that students are well prepared for midterms/exams. Though Lynn can be a bit disorganized, it didn't hinder my learning. I found the grading criteria to be very specific and difficult to adjust to but it is doable to get a good grade if you put the work into it!

Caring professor! Lecture heavy but there were no pre-readings or pre-reading quizzes to do. Gives good examples on how to deal with explanation questions! I recommend reviewing those examples before exams. I also recommend doing practice exam questions before checking the answer key to see where the marks are coming from in exams.

Its the end of my second yr and out of the 36 credits I've taken lynn has been by far the best prof. She has been so helpful when it came to accommodating me for my deffered exam and is overall v passionate abt her work.

Such a caring prof. Ppts have all the information needed for the final exam, but most questions on midterms/finals are problem-based. She does read off from the slides but gives some practice problems and tips/tricks. The exams themselves and marking were fair.

Extremely kind professor! Super flexible with deadlines, practically begs you to email her for an extensions and she responds to emails within a few minutes - needless to say one of the best professors here in this department. If you have the option, definitely try to get into her section for 121 as midterms are section specific.

Dr. Norman is an amazing lecturer! She very clearly outlines the learning objectives for each lecture and what we should know for the exams. She's very aware that most students are taking 3+ other courses on top of her's, and is very mindful about the workload. She's also extremely caring, and will try to ensure fairness across all assessments.

she is so sweet, she gives lots of oppurtunity to meet her in hours. she trys very hard to keep us engaged in lectures, puts lots of memes and iclickers in lectures so its very nice to have practice right away. she is so sweet, stays up late for us students, so kind and couldnt ask for a better proffesor

She reduce workload from 3 group work to 1，and give easy midterm 2 questions，she gives reciting questions yet answers can be written on study sheet，no worries！She is fresh off board for teaching bio 111，often worried about her fast pace would confuse us——so modest and humble. No need to worry about that， I usually watch double speed recording：）

She is so nice, always worried about the pace of the class and if we are keeping up. Allows a cheat sheet for both midterms and the final. She also changed the grading criteria for some test to favor us, and moved up the dates of many assignments by a week. Really kind and caring.
