I cannot stand her voice. At all. I lost all my materials for class and she says that it's not her problem because I didn't call her. In a life threatening situation I'm going to call her first (right). She makes up people as her friends for example.
she can not control the class at all. the lessons are not helpful in anyway. you never even have to buy the book but she wont tell you that until you can only get buy back money for the book. her voice is annoying and she teaches material that is wrong.
She was not very approachable. When I questioned my grade on an assignment she was would not give a straight answer as to the reason for my low grade. She always seemed annoyed if you asked her questions before or after class.
Tests not related to teachings, throws in questions
This was the easiest class I have ever taken. It is impossible not to get an A. You don't even have to do the reading. She was always happy to answer any question we had. She always has extra credit on her tests and they are only 30 questions long.
Pretty easy class if you can stay awake. I didn't learn anything new becasue it has a lot of general knowledge material and it was an extremely boring class.
This was the easiest class I have taken at ARC so far. I would reccomend it to anyone who needs extra units without the work. Great teacher, very helpful. I never opend my book the entire semester and I got an A in the class.
Awesome teacher! I recommend her highly, class pertains to everyday life and health, it is very useful. The teacher is helpful and cares about students. Gives handouts which cover main concepts in lecture and they make a good study guide.
I really liked this class. The teacher really knew her stuff and was excited about the material. She was always very nice when I asked for help.
This is one of my favorite professors, everything is clear, she sticks to her plan, and is very nice. Class was fun!
The class was boring, but it's an easy A. All tests are multiple choice. She is nice if you are on her good side.
Dr. Ott is a great professor. She knows the material and teaches it well. She can be a little rude if you come in a little late. Other than that she is great.Lots of activities and not so hard on tests. Easy A for the class.
Can be rude, but coming in late and talking in class is rude, too. Easy A. Fun, interesting projects and one oral presentation required.
can be rude if you come in late, but definitely wouldn't recommend her becasue her tests are really really hard. If you have to take Health for General, I would recommend someone else, but definitely not her. Not there for students.
Boring lecture, nice lady. If you pay attention in class and read whats assigned you should do fine. The personal wellness project is a large portion of your grade. I suggest you invest a lot in that project.
she was extremely rude and an especially hard grader. the big project was lame and worth too many points for the little amount of time she spent covering it. my entire class though she was really rude and did not help anyone and was very unclear in her lectures. I would not reccomend this class to anyone!!!
Knows subject very well. Easy to underdand. Not easy tests.
Fairly odd. She had little or no real flexibilty in policy. Also, she had a strange habit of relating numerous anecdotes she found amusing or informative (often the same ones over and over). Class was not hard. Just boring. She also can't say 'antibiotics'. It comes out 'antibotics'. *shrug*
She was terribly rude. Unkind. Uncaring. She made horrible comments to students if they did not do what she wanted. I would not take her ever ever again.
Nice class. Nice teacher. I would recommend.
If she doesn't like you, she will use emotional deduction to bring you down. I dislike those that think emotionally. If you are on her good side, this class is easy, but like others have said, this professor is very rude. It is an easy A if you stay on her good side and do all of the assignments, but because of her personality, I wouldn't take her.
dont take her class, very rude individual, puts you to sleep, nonstop notes, do inclass activities and pass the class
I am shocked to see such bad ratings for Ms. Ott. I thought she was quirky and cute. The tests weren't too bad, I even got 100 percent on one of them. Although I am extrememly interested in the subject, I thought her teaching was fair and easy.. don't be late. That's my pet peeve too. Great teacher
in her stress health management class you learn a lot of techniques. She is really nice and helpful too. Don't buy the book you won't use it. if you need it go to the library. don't be late. Her notes tell you everything too! go to every class it's not that hard! I got an A very easily here too!
this teacher is a space cadet who is very subjective in her grading. You never know what questions you missed on her tests because she gives you the scantrons back but not the test itself. she plays favorites
u have to study. no slacking advised. u do use the book. i did to help me memorize key terms./etc. for tests.. tests are challenging. multiple choice. true/ false ,fill blank, etc. stress techniques taught. one a week. very helpful/. did journals, explaining what u learned, etc.. for me, interesting,. got a lot out of it.advise study groups highly.
Being stress management class participated alot and had great grades. I have some major health issues, and am migraine prone. She had no compassion on deadlines, or make ups. I am also a DSPS student, and had medical excused absences for E.R.visits and recovery time needed. I should have pushed with admin. action, for her lack of consideration. A-C
Stress Management & Your Health-She provided weekly relaxation techniques and had us journal about how we applied what we learned. But, when it came to the tests and assignments she didn't grade fairly. She seems very biased with her PHD and all. I'm only saying this because she talks about it all the time.Nevertheless, I still learned a lot.I regret taking it with her, but I am still thankful I took it.

everything was well organized and crystal clear, i always like that
Very lazy instructor. I took her online class and at least half the material had mistakes on it.Has excuses for everything and does as little as possible to help students.Everyone was complaining about her on the discussion boards.I got a good grade but I had extensive online notes with a spread sheet.Almost impossible to get an A.
likes to brag about how she went to grad school.....ALL THE TIME!

I really learned alot and enjoyed the class and the teacher
It was a very easy online class, the questions on the test came right from the book. She also gave lots of assignments, which were able to compensate poor test grades. the class material was also interesting and usefull.
I liked her fine. She was good to me, but I did my work on time and didn't have any special needs. Let me come in and do my final in-house and was very nice to me and agreeable. never had any trouble at all. Always prompt in her responses back to me, I recommend her if you're going to study and do the work. She's not a baby sitter that's for sure.
She was not too bad, as long as you didn't say anything in her class without her permission. Other than that she was ok. She did seem to have a few that were her favorites. I would not take a class with her again.
Like the other review stated, don't talk esp if you have something good to add. She doesn't like smart people or people who talk. She appears threatened by anyone who wants to add to the class. Sad. The material was interesting and easy to find and understand. I would nOTT take another class of hers.
she can be a pain in the ass. and no, she doesn't like students input. she likes those that just come to class, look like you are paying attention, or taking notes, disagree with nothing, and leave. would not take her again to save my life!
She is very fair, I like how she sets up her class, everything is crystal clear. Lots of interesting discussions in class. Not a class for lazy people
I enjoy the class and got a lot out of it, I eat better and exercise more and feel better. The teacher really helped me when I had something happen that caused me to get behind
Took the 8 week online class. Everything is laid out for you. You can not be lazy in this class, checking in every week. Lots of help for Ott and other students.
she is awful! she is mean to you if she doesn't like what you say. plays favorites. annoying to the point of making a person want to stab themselves in the eye!!
This was a boring class. Book we used didn't even help. Tests where so hard and had stuff not even in the book! Do not recommend.
Professor very difficult. Not easy to relate too. Has the personality of a rock. Would never take her class again. She's cut throat, and difficult to communicate with. Stay away from this Professor if you want to maintain a decent GPA.
NEVER take this woman to be your professor. She does not give students a fair amount of time to take exams online. Probably only two or three people received A's in her class; whereas everyone else received D's, and F's. I did well (100% to 90%) on my quizzes, and homework assignments, but the witch still gave me a D. Be warned she is not fair!
I took this class online, an 8 week course. Never did get the hang on how prof set up her tests (book/lecture etc). Prof wasn't very helpful. If you take this class make sure to really study and do good on midterm & final or you will end up with a C in the class.
I followed this professors instructions and studied the class lectures, web resources, and other information Professor Ott posts on D2L. I made sure to do course objectives and got an "A"...
Took her online class and that sure was a mistake.Shes a horrible teacher. Not compassionate nor helpful.Never responded to emails I sent her.Didn't seem to care at all about her students.Doesn't tell you which qs you get wrong on the quizzes/tests nor the correct answer.I knew all the info and still got a terrible grade hmm subjective grading much?
This was a A++class, full of information, thorough coverage. But, YOU HAD TO DO THE WORK!!! Most on-line classes are challenging in that you MUST be disciplined and understand HOW to do the work. NO last minute stuff will suffice. This was a great class, because I learned so much from Dr. Ott and all the resources.
The book is really good. That u dont need to buy. The professor not so much. She is not helpfull at all.The test are hard because how she words it on the sudy guide. She dosent go over the test before or after if you have questions dont ask. She will ask any questions at that time you can ask.
She's an OK teacher. Not the best but also not the very worst.
Loved the class and instructor, she was really nice and cares.
Very clear assignemnt instructions. Very helpful. Great class with good use of the material.
Ms Ott is a really cool professor. She does lecture fully for the entire class period, however she gives you power point handouts. The LECTURE NOTES are important for the test. Get the textbook you will use it all the time. It's textbook tests. And they're multiple choice. Minimal class work - Grades on Attendance
The class is an option for general education requirements. She was a cool teacher, organized. If you study for the exams you are in good shape. Follow the syllabus, she is mostly very good at staying on time. She gives out the power-points, study guides before exams, therefore the book is not big of a deal, or at least the semester I attended.
I took the online class that was eight weeks and it was pretty fun. There are a few discussions that you do your assignments and then you have quizzes and a big midterm and a big final. You have to have the book to pass as well as really use the power points she posts. Good and quick class, would completely recommend.
I LOVED THIS CLASS! Formerly Ott, Now Rivers, this professor is pretty awesome. She is super nice, you can go to her with ANY problem and she will really try to help. She made class fun and is pretty easy-going. She doesn't give a lot of homework, mostly just reading and studying if she does. I would take her again! Be ready to participate!
Professor Rivers was awesome! Her class was super easy and enjoyable. She was very nice and loves her students and really wants everyone to pass. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Her lectures and notes were very clear and the exams covered the notes. Easy in-class assignments and short tests. Easy A!
Took her online class and was really dissapointed! Her tests are really hard and she dosent give enough time to complete them. Exams have poor content validity, and we were not able to review them to see which questions we missed. Some test questions didnt even come from the study guides. I was excited to take this class but she made me hate it.
Her class seems more of a 5 unit class . She gives you a very long study guide but the guide gives you an idea on where to study but not where to focus she grades harshly. Ridiculous exams where you are supposed to remember everything you've read in the book. Exams have 5 chapters to cover per test and theres only 2 exams. Would not take her again
Prof Rivers can come off as a hard ass but if you try, this class should be an easy A. She assigns very little hw and tests are given based almost 100% on notes. I do have a strong background in all subjects covered, but I found the book to be a waste of money. I never used it once and barely studied for a single test and still got a high A.
Very nice professor, but make sure you can follow directions! PowerPoints and homework were a bit long but I got through it. I used the textbook most of the time. Gives you a week to do the homework and it is plenty of time. Very interesting and fun class!
she docks off points if you leave class during her lectures to go to the bathroom , and don't text in her class she will dock points as well. You can earn up to 15 points of extra credit. The tests are all multiple choice not that hard make sure you take notes cause she really does the tests mostly on that.
Quizzes are easy, but good luck studying for the exams. It was definitely not what I expected and the Objectives which are your studying material are insufficient to ace tests. VERYYY textbook heavy as well. worst online class I ever took
Great teacher. Would take one of her classes again.
Professor Rivers is a great teacher who is devoted to several things: her students, the environment, education, and public health, and all of this comes out through her course. She appreciates friendly discussions and will go the extra mile for you. The quizzes are easier than the final because you get two chances. The final is tough. Good teacher!
pay attention, take notes and show up for class. She's a pretty easy going Professor. I'd take her again without a problem.
Take this class, you will not regret a single moment. Everything you could ever hope for when expecting to learn a subject. Knows her subject(s). Cares about her students. No surprises when it comes to to tests. Brings the best possible out of the student. Grades fairly. Responds to questions promptly. Just engage and be apart of the experience.
Lectures are everything. I used the book once or twice, but everything she tests on is said during her lectures. Great Professor, would pick her again.
I learned alot about what people are doing that's ruining our world, and in that sense, the class is a depressing eye-opener. But the professor is still pretty positive and encourages success in her students. Straightforward tests and grading criteria. Study hard and you'll do well.
I took health online with her. She gives good feedback and grades easily. If you didn't do so well on an exam, she offers extra credit and allows you to make up the exam at the end during office hours. Her homework may take some time but it is easy. i would recommend on taking her.
DON'T TAKE THIS ONLINE BIG MISTAKE. She tries to cram everything into this 8 week course. Textbook is a print out of pages. 2 chapters, 2-3 articles, 1 discussion board, and a quiz. It would take me over 7 hours to do ALL of this. Her lectures are 30-50+ pages with little to no content. Her ABC quizzes have 5-6 options which is confusing.
Class was easy to pass. Almost NO homework. Random health activities. So its not good to miss any days. Do NOT be on your phone in class. She will call you out & dock points. Extra Credit is available through RAD. As long as you study for exams easy to pass. Everything is from lecture note. Very understanding teacher.
Prof. Rivers is an awesome health teacher. She cares about her students and genuinely wants you to do well. Had her online 8 week health class which consisted of half a dozen discussions and 2-attempt quizzes and 2 tests. Gives individual feedback on your responses which is great. Read the book, do the assignments, get an A guaranteed.
Very strick on phone usage & doesn't allow her students to even go to the bathroom, if you leave class, don't come back she will mark you absent. Very boring lectures. Really NO REASON to buy the expensive $170+ book for the course. If you print the notes from Canvas & fill in the blanks as she lectures, you'll be fine. Exams only cover the notes.
Professor Rivers is caring and just overall an amazing Professor! I appreciated her feedback and how much she cares about her students. Study for the 2 exams, participate in the few online discussion/activities and you will pass no problem. Absolutely take her!
Test questions have nothing to do with the study guides. Memorization is key. Don't take this class online. Too much information with too little time to get it. Its not really her fault but she wrote the tests so it also is her fault.
dont take her useless class. tons of lectures, that do not relate to test questions at all. Tests are 40 min for 40 questions.
Prof. Rivers is encouraging and provides positive feedbacks. However, exam questions arent the same as the study guides!! You have to read every article provided and the book and memorize it. Discussions are easy, quizzes some what does not make sense. Overall, if you cant cram everything in 8 weeks, dont take the online course.
She comes off rude! Her quizzes and exams does not make sense! Study Guide is helpful to understand the chapter however quizzes and exams are not always what the study guide has. Only good thing about the class is that she allows two attempts for quizzes. Be prepared to read read read and "read between the lines" according to the Profs.
I had a really good experience with Professor Rivers! Shes a very kind woman and wants her students to succeed. Sometimes her exams can be a little confusing so try to study for those the best that you can and thoroughly go through her study guide. She gave our class many opportunities to do well. This was an 8 week course and Im glad I took it!
For this class I used the library textbook. The 4 tests were decent, questions were on the study guides she provided. I took her hybrid class where all assignments were online which included, discussions, essays and quizzes. She can be very dry and boring, but her class is an easy A if you read. The final is cumulative but optional for A students.
Health is basic info people in life should already know. As my first online class it was hard for me figuring out how to complete assignments. Study guides have too many questions. Doesnt accept late work. I was excited to take this class because I took it in high school but Rivers made it harder that it is. I would only retake to get my units.
Professor Rivers is a wonderful teacher. However, one thing I havent seen mentioned in other reviews is that some of the discussions for this course can be rather invasive. If youre sensitive to revealing matters about your own personal health to the entire class, please look to a different professor, as accommodations are not made.
Give a lot of material out but she gives you plenty of time to get the work done in saying this if you are a procrastinator don't take the class. Online 8-week class lecture is written all out to help with taking notes. Every week she'll supply a study guide that optional corresponds with the exam. Overall great Professor, cares for the students.
For the sake of your GPA score DO NOT TAKE RIVERS! I am a 4.0 student and of course school has been challenging at times, but, my goodness, not to this extent. The class itself is easy, but professor has very particular way of grading discussions and essay questions. If you put not enough information - D, too much information - D. No middle ground.
WORST CLASS EVER!!!! She grades super harsh. Put in effort - get a low score, put no effort - get same score. Very rude when she responds to emails. Everything is your fault not hers. Would not recommend this class online
Prof Rivers was hostile and rude in her communication toward me. Her communication was poor. She skimmed my homework and removed points for missing things that were included. She refused to admit some obvious typos in her lectures.
Lots of reading. Every week is a book chapter and a power point lecture. An outline is given at the beginning of the class on exactly what notes to take to pass the quizzes and exams through out the semester. Occasional discussion board posts. Easy enough. Would have received an A but missed assignments one week.
Professor Rivers is very hit or miss. On one hand, she is very knowledgable about what she teaches, and you learn a lot. On the other, she is a very tough grader, and her instructions can come off as hostile. If her class is needed for your degree, then I would totally take her class. If it's only for credit, I would look for someone else.
Take notes on the power points, as long as you do that & study your notes, you will do great. She had office times that did not work for me but she was willing to work with my times. For extra credit, you can take SCC and was honestly so helpful for this class, the work is easy but just a lot to remember. Honestly, BEST professor I have had at ARC!
I am an A-grade student and almost finished college. I have never met a teacher as rude as she did. I passed two out of three exams and decided to drop the class. The correct answers are not available after passing the tests and exams, since not all of them correspond to the lectures and the textbook. I regretted taking this class. Don't take it.
Took the 8-week course, and there is a lot of material to study for, discussions that are toward private life and gives insight on each. Quizzes and exams are from the study guides.
I personally had a wonderful experience with Professor Rivers, she truly cared about her students and always made sure to let you know why you received the grade you did. A bit of a tough grader but for good reason, she wanted to make sure you understood the lesson. There are weekly quizzes and 2 big exams that are easy if you prepare for them.
Dr. Rivers really cares about her students and their success. Dr. River's is like, the Polaroid of everything that a teacher is and is expected to be. I love her.
Very inspirational and caring professor. Attendance is important! I'm in her 8wk in person class and she is so amazing! I did amazing 10/10 on my hw assignments, but tests can be difficult! 2 exams and I did poor on 1 and that alone dropped me to a B. Semester is almost over, so I'll likely pass, but if you are a poor tester let DSPS know!
What I really appreciated was how organized the course was. The lectures were clear and easy to follow, and the assignments were well thought out. Professor was genuinely passionate about health education, and that energy really made a difference in how I engaged with the material. I really dug in for this class always appreciated her.
