Stay on her good side and you will be OK. Can be very condescending. Find a writing style she likes and stick to it.

This class started off waaaay horribly . . . by Finals, there were only four of us left. She's a tough teacher, but I think if you can stick it out and make it, it's worth it.

Overall she is tough because she wants you to write at her level of stadards. Read, Participate and try your hardest and you will do fine. This class makes you learn alot about literature and in the end you will be proud of your achievement.

I really enjoyed this professor. Her achievement standards are high, and I know a lot of kids dropped the class. Word of advice--get on her good side!!!! I can't express that enough. She picks favorites. I was one of them.

I am here to set the record straight. This professor is NOT what people are making her out to be. She is highly insightful and her achievement standards are set in order to help students excel and improve their ability to properly write an analytical/critical essay. Also, she allows you to rewrite essays that you did not do well on. GREAT CLASS

She isn't what all these reviews say she is. Expecting her students to attend class, participate, and do the required work outlined in the syllabus isn't any different from other teachers. She was very helpful answering questions the class had and helped me to improve my writing and reading analysis skills.

Dr. DeCicco is a wonderful professor who forces her students to think. She will not tolerate 7th grade thinking because we are adults. We are capable of formulating thoughts and analyzing stories. We are all also capable of finding deeper meaning and understanding concepts. This class is only as hard as one is stupid.

This teacher is not at all what others have made her out to be. She is a smart woman who knows what she is talking about. She expects her students to read, participate in conversation, have some thoughts, and then transform them into a paper. It is a class where you must think and analyze and as long as you're not an idiot you should be alright.

She was a hard teacher, but she only wanted us to learn as students and develop into college students overall we had to take responsibility for our own work. It was fun facing the challenge she set for us and if you stick it out and work hard you will succeed in her class do not listen to everything everyone says

This Professor is Amazing, this is my second semester in a row with her and I have to say she is one of the best professors I've ever had. She is fair and caring and has a lot of patience. Its not hard to pass this class by any means, I recommend this Professor and wish every teacher was like her. She also shows compassion in her class, Surprising.

Dr. Decicco is a hard but fair professor. She expects a lot out of you and rightfully so.

U can not get by using spark notes in this class. U actually have to read. What a concept for a literature course! Participation is huge. She does not give out high grades on essays but she is all about improvement. Read, discuss,and have some original opinions and she will reward you in the end. If u dont have time to read dont take this class.

Very challenging professor. I think if you are a very good writer and want to challenge yourself and become even better, then this may be the professor for you. Otherwise, she probably is not and you will most likely hate the class. But if you are willing to put in a lot of work, you can learn a lot and come out a better essay writer.

I had her for world lit. and she was the most difficult professor I've ever had. She is extremely challenging, but rewards you if you work hard. I have always gotten A's in english and I got a B in her class and I had to work my butt off for it. She is extremely knowledgeable and teaches you a lot, but not necessarily a fair grader.

Lynne DeCicco truly cares about her classes & students! Even though RVCC is in fact a community college, she treats her students w/ respect & has high expectations. She is tough, but fair! Her passion for english is evident & she is open to discussions on all topics. I always struggled with writing, but learned a lot from her. You must do the work!

I had DeCicco over the summer for a World Lit class. DeCicco is a fair teacher n will give you the grade you deserve based on the work you put into the class. She was helpful when I needed help with papers. Only teacher I have had that recognized the hard work I put into a paper n was rewarded for it. I would recommend taking any class of hers.

She told us we didn't know how to write papers, but made it sound like other teachers didn't encourage us to improve, so we were happily writing BS papers just to get the assignment in. take her comments, be on time, read, participate, and you'll be fine. she only wants YOUR best. she even tells you exactly what she wants. just write that down.

Had her for the honors version of this class (not sure if that makes a difference), and it wasn't that hard. Not really sure how to evaluate her helpfulness because I don't think I needed much help, but clarity wasn't an issue; she knows her stuff, and she's good at telling you why your writing is bad. The material was difficult, but manageable.

Professor DeCicco is a passionate and dedicated educator who compells her class to reach a deeper understanding of the text. Her technigues draw out more meaningful and insightful dialogue among the class. Through her guidance, students learn to respect each other's ideas while building a supportive, collaborative environment.

I had the pleasure of having Dr. DeCicco as my professor. Highly recommended! My writing improved dramatically from a technical standpoint. Additionally, Dr. DeCicco conducted productive and enthusiastic class discussions. Her ability to prompt students to engage the material and get the best out of each lesson was unique and inspiring.

I've taken several classes with Pr. DeCicco. I disagree with a lot of the comments here. I believe that she is an excellent teacher, dedicated to her field, and her main goal is to help students grow, as writers and as people. She wants you to progress and she knows how to help you do so. The skills that she taught me are universally applicable.

I enjoyed my time in English II with professor DeCicco. While she may not be the easiest teacher in the world, she is a good one. Work requires mostly reading short texts and essays reflecting the topics in the text. During class there is lots of discussion which helps with essays. She is a great teacher. If you put in effort you will do well.

...I had the honor of taking ENG II with Dr. DeCicco. I have to admit, I was incredibly impressed by her educational background, awards, publications, and teaching experience. As one of her current students, I must say, I whole-heartedly commend Dr. DeCicco for her time, challenging coursework, & devotion to her students. She's famed* in my eyes.

Professor DeCicco is in love with what she teaches. And its contagious. She lets you make presentations to the class. It's all discussion based. There where only 4 papers total! Anyone who has her just needs to do the reading and participate. You don't even have to like the material. She encourages opposing views. While it's tough, you learn a ton.

Having this teacher, I can totally understand who would say she's a tough teacher. However I'm a student who puts in no work and absolutely loved her. If you communicate with her and let her to get to know you, she will literally take you by the hand and make sure you pass. I had no chance of passing during the midterm and came out with a C.

Ask yourself, WHAT TYPE OF STUDENT AM I?? I'm I still in HS? This is a COLLEGE course. If you understand that in order to grow and improve your skills, individual effort is required. Then you will feel GRATITUDE for her fair teaching style. English is my 2nd language, and I still managed to earn a solid B. TY professor for inspiring me.

She is a college professor and grades completely fairly. She promotes analytical skills and critical thinking. She loves what she does and encourages students to think outside the box in analyzing text. She doesn't require you to be an expert in what she hands out but she requires you to know the material and how you perceived it. She is amazing!

At first I wanted to drop her class, but I needed the credit and it turns out I'm so glad I didn't. This professor comes off as strict and difficult, but she really just wants to help you become a better writer. My writing has greatly improved after taking her. She will not baby you. She's hard on her students because she truly wants them to grow.

Your world will open up a bit in Dr. DeCicco's class. She's well-educated, experienced, deeply knowledgeable and warm-hearted. She encourages students to express themselves and is creative in approach. Show up and do the work. I'm a better human for having been in her class. I'm a better writer and know more about literature, myself and the world.

Professor DeCicco was a pleasure to have! Unlike all the other reviews on here, she is very helpful and lets you revise your essays in the form of rough drafts and provides complete feedback so you can improve the final essay. Her tests are straight from the classes, if you've been present you will do well. Stay on top of things and you'll do great

Professor DeCicco is the best! You just need to stay on top of the readings and work and you'll be good. She is helpful and gives good feedback and the in class lectures are really informative. Don't miss class, you'll miss out on a lot! She really lets each person participate in class. I would take her again!

I received an A in Professor DeCicco's class, but I had to work really hard to do so. She gives instructions on what she wants in the various essays and if you make the changes she requests, you will pass her class. She is very strict with the attendance policy. Do the work and what she asks and you will get a passing grade.

Prof. DeCicco is a very good professor. You have to put an effort to get a good grade, but that is expected of college education. There are a lot of essay assignments, but it is an english class. If you need help in something she will explain what she is looking for. This class is for you if you are interested in learning something.

I took prof. DeCicco spring of 2016, she is an amazing professor and truly cares about her students. She is a tough grader but for the right reasons and gives good feedback. What i liked about this prof. is that she makes you think outside of the box. You HAVE to read and do your papers to pass! Follow her rules and syllabu and you will do great!

By far my favorite professor. She is incredibly intelligent and really makes you think deeply about what you are reading and writing about. I loved her text selection, and the class based discussions were the highlights of my week during this class. If you aren't interested in english this isn't the class for you, but me for it was a treat.

Dr. Decicco is one of the few professors at RV that have made an impression on me. She has high expectations for her students which are not impossible to meet- as long as you show up to class, do the work, and reach out to her if you're struggling. I think that she's an incredibly smart woman. Don't be deterred by the other reviews.

The class isn't hard if you pay attention and participate in class discussions. If you participate and ask questions during the class discussion you will definitely get on her good side and will understand the material better. Try your best on your essays and follow her critiques on your rough drafts to get good grades on those.
