Dowdy is very good. I hate science, but she made it easy to understand and relevant to the lives of students.
Easy class. She really makes an effort to make the material understandable. Exams aren't hard, but they're a shade above easy. Attending class is a must.
she's really good--she uses a lot of laymans terms for those who aren't science fans. attending class is a must because she tests you on the notes she gives you.
although her tests may be hard, you learn a lot and understand the concepts of the material being taught. she is a very good teacher and worth taking.
Hard Tests but grat class.
Very understandable class. Makes an effort to make sure everyone understands the topics. Hard tests but does give you a very detailed study guide of what is to be expected. Great class to take if you have a friend in the class with you. Highly recommended!
Lynn is an excellent teacher. She makes sciene so much easier than it really is. she really makes non-science majors understand math better. she will always meet with you if you need help. She is a great teacher, definetely take from here she will make science more interesting.
Professor Dowdy is an excellent teacher. I have learned so much this semester from her. Attending class is a MUST. All tests are based off lecture notes. She gives a study guide with everything you need to know. Little reading required, one paper. I learned a LOT this semester!
Dowdy is a great lecturer. All her tests are based on lectures. No need to buy the expensive book for this class if you attend all lectures, but there are a few pages she tests you on. I loved the course, very useful information, but it isn't too easy, I got a B.
Dowdy really knows her stuff and is a great lecturer, but her tests are REALLY hard. No matter how much I studied, I didn't do well. Not the class for you if you're not good in science, because she is not easy at all.
I recommend anyone taking biology 100 to take her class. She explains her lessons clearly and thoroughly, and I guarantee you'll understand everything. You'll get interested as well because she relates everything to your life.
Shes very clear, a good teacher. she lectures and u have 3 midterms and a final. The questions can be somewhat tricky on the test. You don't need the book, she never gave questions on the test from the book. She gives study guides which are helpful. u just need to study to pass.
Dowdy has interesting lectures and make the class fun, but the test are extemely hard, and near inpossible to get an "A."
BEST SCIENCE TEACHER IVE EVER HAD. EXPLAINS THINGS VERY WELL, MAKES THE CLASS INTERESTING.
My major was business, but I changed my major to biology after I took her biology class. She explains things very clearly and interestingly.
as long as you go to class, take good notes, and study from the study guide, you'll be fine. everything on the study guide will be on the test. she's a very clear teacher and the class isnt boring considering it's a lecture class w/ lots of people. oh, and there's one paper that you write for this class.
Teacher is one of the best BIO teachers at SFSU. Knows her stuff. Just make sure you go to class, pay attention take good notes and you do all assignments (which there aren't that much) and gaurantee a passing grade
One of the best teachers I have ever had. Extremely thorough, explains everything very well. Tests are very fair, as long as you put the work in.Very friendly and approachable.
Dowdy is excellent with non-science majors. Tests are based off lectures so attending class is a must. One easy paper to write. I learned a lot in this class, so I reccomend it to anyone.

She speaks loud and clear during her lectures and is available for any questions. She gives out test guides in order to prepare ourselves for her tests. She's a nice teacher !
Very helpful and a great Prof!
great prof. she explains everything throughougly and picks interesting lecture topics. she simplifies her explanations so they're easy to follow. her tests are pretty much based on her lectures. she's always open to questions and she checks her e-mail frequently and responds quickly.
Feels like i'm in 5th grade. LOL Overall great teacher!
Really great! She explains everything so well that it's impossible not to understand! great bio teacher for non bio people!
Awesome teacher! She explains everything very well. Her tests are off of her lectures so attending class and good note taking is key. It's a class for dummies b/c i felt as though I was back in grade school during her lectures. Very nice lady.
Very nice and teaches well, you won't get confused.
Great professor. She explains everything thoroughly and her lectures are interesting. Exams are based off of topics discussed in lecture and some reading assignments from the text book. Attendance is a must. Overall great class for non-biology majors.
Very easy teacher. Breaks everything down like you are a child. Easy test because it is only on the things she lectures. Only some stuff from the book, but she tells you which pages to read.
great teacher, explains everything in detail, if u go to the lectures and take notes youll get an A plus all her old test r on reserve
Great teacher. Very clear. Fair grader. Would recommend to anyone.
very good teacher
very good professor. course focuses on the health regiment of biology which was wonderful - didn't have to be bored out of useless info. but the down side is attendance is necessary unless you can count on a friend for very good notes. exams are based solely off notes, some parts from the book, but not too much. interesting course though!
she's a very awesome teacher. she has a lot to teach and when you pay attention in class you'll see that it's easier to do well on the tests.
Best teacher!
Dowdy is awsome! Her class is really easy.. Don't buy the book, you won't need it.. Her lectures are very clear and interesting.. I learned so much in her class.. Easy A.. Seriously.. Just study the notes.. It's really simple..
She's positively amazing. couldn't ask for more. hey, you know a teacher's really cool when she cuts out the boring stuff and only teaches things that are relevant to your life. take her, can't go wrong.
she is a good teacher her lecture are very clear...and her grading scale is fair!
the easiest lecture teacher u will ever find. only 2 papers in a semester and quizzes online are worth 10 points which u can use the book n redue them if u get less than 10 points. very clear when lecturing. notes are clear too. overall, dowdy is a great professor. i can say one of the best teacher ive ever had so far. i reccomend to all of u.
i recommend this class!! take it with her if you need it..
she's really easy. attendance not mandatory, but study for the tests!!!!
98% of the test material comes from the lectures. she's an interesting lecturer. only read a couple pages from the book all semester. she's very approachable. highly recommend her class.
Very clear and patient when answering questions, and I actually found her lectures really interesting. There are two essays, online quizzes and five major tests, so you won't get by without working at all, but she does a great job of making it all pleasant and enjoyable. Seems to go out of her way to help freshmen adjust to the college experience.
She's very straight forward and if you need to ask her any questions you can go to not only her office hours but email her your questions; she gets back to you very quickly which surprised me since most teachers will take their time. Go to class, pay attention, take good notes, and study for the exams - you'll get a good grade!
She clarifies everything about the subject and also she makes that subject interesting even if you dont like Biology. I know I didn't before but now I appreciate the subject even more. Just take good notes, come to class so that you would not miss anything important. Exams are based mostly on lecture notes and also a little bit of reading. A+++ =)
Professor Dowdy is a very knowledgeable instructor. Her lectures aren't boring, which is a definite plus. I dislike the fact that her exams are of the format: a, b, a & b, neither a nor b. Highly recommended!
Teacher is extremely nice and very helpful! Perfect teacher for first time freshman. Tests are difficult so studying is manditory, not an easy class...
the class is not the easiest of topics but Lynne is one of the best bio teachers ive ever had. showing up to lecture is one part but you do have to work a bit to do well in the class. Exams are not too bad if you studied well. Definitely need the book and the CD in it was pretty helpful. Otherwise she is really helpful and answers all questions.
Professor Dowdy is a great teacher, she explains course content well. Her tests are not the easiest, but if you go to class, take decent notes and read the book on your own, you will do just fine.
She's very clear with her lectures. She doesn't assume that you know what she's talking about, which is great for refreshing on your knowledge. Perfect for non-science majors, and even more with science-haters.
She knows her stuff, and seems to try to relate topics to real life. Her class is not the easiest, but you learn a lot. There were 4 exams, a short paper, and a long paper. She's very liberal with her grading scale. I recommend her, unless you are looking for an easy A, of course.
Great teacher! Knows a lot and she is very helpful! Her class is very interesting. She makes the class fun. Her exams are fare - you just have to study hard for it. Attendance is important. I recommend her.
Physiology itself is a hard subject...STUDY STUDY STUDY! Her exams were hard even with study guilds. No HW, no papers, no surprise! Attendance is not mandatory but missing more than 2 classes might hurt you in the long run. The class its pretty fast pace. Good luck!
Dr. Dowdy is an awesome teacher. The class was interesting in itself and she made it easier to understand some of the stuff. Has a sense of humor and is sweet. Although attendance is not mandatory, it is important so that you can pass the class. Class is not too difficult, but there is a lot of material to understand. Study for quizzes and tests.
Good teacher. MUST study. Tests are extremely hard.
Great teacher, charismatic, funny, she gives the pure relevant knowledge I had hoped a college professor would give. I'm always learning something when in her class.
No need for an introduction - She is a purely awesome teacher! TAKE HER CLASS!!
TAKE THIS CLASS. Her lectures, assignments, and tests are basic and to the point. All material covered in class is easy to relate to and apply to your own life. It truly doesn't get any better than this in terms of science classes. All you need to do is show up and take good notes, an easy B if not an A
People said she was hard, but I didn't think so. As long as you do her study guides thoroughly and study them, you should be golden. If not, you're either not making your study guides thorough enough or it's just you. Her tests are MCQ. Also go over her past exams. Prof Dowdy is extremely clear. Going to her lectures is extremely beneficial.
very clear lectures, easy multiple choice tests. GO TO CLASS! the class is easy if you pay attention to the lectures, but if you miss them, you're lost. she tests you on stuff that's not in the book. and she's funny, but i don't like her haircut.
Prof. Dowdy is by far the best bio teacher I've had. Her lectures are very clear and to the point, and the study guides she makes for the exams are really helpful. You do have to study for the tests, but if you take good notes and follow the study guides, you should do well.
I would recommend human bio with her because it's a very informative class. The class is not easy and you will have to study if you want to pass. I found this class difficult but I kept on working hard and studying and ended with a B!! I thought I'd get a C for sure but Dowdy really wants you to succeed. Highly recommended.
A teacher who is such an excellent communicator that her class was an absolute pleasure. Hard exams that were fair. She gives you every opportunity to do well--study guides, online quizzes, a detailed guide to what she is looking for in the two papers. I cannot recommend her higher.
Super, super amazing! She's clear, funny and NOT BORRING! Go to her class, pay attention and get notes. You have a certain A.
I highly recommend her. Her teaching is really really clear. I can actually understand human bio because of her. My advice: go to class everyday. Those who don't do well, either: never come to class or don't take any notes during the lecture. Exams are easy and taking notes are important!
easy class, just go to her lecture and take notes. you will learn something off this class.
(I also took 326) I think Lynn is one of the best lectures I have ever had. She did a very good job at presenting the important information in an interesting way, and skipping all the chaft (along with not testing you on it). She gives copies of past exams and study guides containing every possible question on the test. I learned a lot from her.
Probably one of the best (if not THE best) lecturers I have ever had in college. Extremely clear and knowledgable about the subject she is teaching, and she makes sure she is understood by her students before moving on to the next subject. I am only in the first month of this semester, and so far I am extremely impressed by Prof. Dowdy.
Wow she has got to be one of the best lecturers ive ever had. She has a VERY detailed study guide and VERY clear and NOT boring lectures. Tests are hard but fair. Kinda easy to pass because she curves the C range a little but you may need to put in more effort and have pretty good test taking skills if you want a B or (even more) an A.
awesome teacher
Just take her, you will NOT regret it. Go to her class and take notes, you WILL learn SO much. Awesome lecturer, she makes me want to be a biology major.
The class is boring but the notes is like basically the exams so as long as you go to class and write down the notes that she puts on the overhead then you should pass. but her lectures are kinda interesting sometimes.
Very detailed in lectures &in study guides for exams. Helpful. Knowledgeable. Quizzes online, somewhat hard (yet fair) exams, two research papers. Take her!
Ive made it through this class with a B even though i didnt do too well on the tests. But its not her fault, its mine because i didnt take good notes. If you pull off a good amount of effort in the papers, notes, and studying, then you will be fine. She is VERY clear on the lectures so there shouldnt be a reason why you didnt pass.
Just because it's a Bio 100 class and primarily geared toward freshmen, don't underestimate the course. Go to class, pay attention, take notes, and study. Not an easy A. Tests are pretty tough, but she adjusts your grade by replacing your worst test with the final paper grade and so on. Easy online quizzes.
She may be a nice professor, as many others said, but consider her class is not easy at all. 10 online quizzes, 3 midterms, one final, 2 papers. She doesn't curve, and she takes hella points off if you turn stuff late. Attendance is not required, but she'll test you on what she covers in class, so miss one single lecture and you'll be in troubles!
She is the most thorough biology teacher I have ever had. Take good notes, really study them before the tests and you'll be fine
My favorite professor!!!Best prof. ever.. She is very helpful...She is organized(very clear and straight forward in her lectures)She hands out a very detailed review sheet before a midterm..If you can answer all the questions (you can if you attend all the lectures)you will do well on the test.Online quizzes very easy points
Dowdy is probably the best science teacher I've had in a field of mediocre science teachers. She understands the people who take BIOL 100 and she makes sure the material is always easy to understanding and never is overwhelming. Her tests are easy if you study for them. Take notes; it makes book use less necessary. The online quizzes are easy.
They should call this class "High School Biology Revisited." The concepts in this class are easy to digest, and even easier to take notes on during Dowdy's lectures. There are quizzes every once in a while on iLearn (that can be repeated over and over again until you get 100%), four multiple choice midterms, and two papers. Easy as pie!
Dowdy is awesome! I took her class in the Fall 2008 semester and really enjoyed taking her class. Her lectures are very clear and interesting and there's no HW but 10 online quizzes every 2 weeks or so. She is very nice and helpful. Recommended for Bio!
She is an awesome teacher! Must attend class in order to take noes. quizzes are easy, but exams can be difficult if you do not come to class. Her lecture notes are really clear and organized, and you will need them for both quizzes and exams. Take good notes and you will be fine, but the overall class can be overwhelming
Well, before going into the finals my grade was an A after the finals B-... Class consist of 10 quiz online, 3 Midterms, and 1 Final comprehensive exam, Oh and 2 papers. Must attend class to understand material. But what a wonderful professor. class is very easy to understand, she makes it so even the most non sciencey people can get it.
She's really nice and wants you to succeed. She teaches Biology from a real life application perspective, so I feel like I learned quite a bit. It was fairly easy but you do need to want an A and actually study. I would recommend her.
10 Online Quizzes, 3 Midterms, 1 Final, 2 papers. Great lecturer, easy to understand. GO TO CLASS. You will actually enjoy it, and good notes are necessary to do well (duh). Midterms are fair, no surprises. Final was more difficult, but still completely do-able. Be ready for MASSIVE study guides. I highly recommend Prof. Dowdy. Ended with B+.
Her study guides were extremely helpful, although they have a lot of info to cover. If you study enough in advance, the tests are easy. Online quizzes were pretty easy if you have the book. I avoided her lectures more than half the semester and still pulled a C because of the book. Her notes are helpful, but it is possible to avoid going to class.
Extremely hard class. Even with weeks of studying, i could never get an A or B. Lectures were very clear though and you gotta go to class. The tests really killed. I wish she gave extra work to balance out test scores! You gotta know the subject WELL to get a grade better than a C. My lab was just as hard but i actually got an A in that! whyyy
She's awesome. I grew up HATING bio, and she makes it so clear. Love her lectures, love the funny jokes she cracks. She's helpful and quickly responds to emails you send. A lot of whats on the exam IS what she says in class, I recommend going to class everyday
So helpful. She's nice and she applies biology to daily life, which makes it easier to remember. Weekly online quizzes boost your grade. Go to class, take notes, and you'll do well. Missing class definitely puts you behind. Great Teacher. 3 midterms, 1 final, 10 quizzes, and 2 papers constitute the grade. Not hard to do well.
Very easy class. Her lectures are very clear. Do not buy the textbook! I bought one and I didn't even open it. Just listen in class n take notes.
She is a very nice teacher. Online quizzes are easy, you get to take them as many times as you want. The tests aren't horribly bad, if you study you will pass. There are also two papers a short and long one, fairly simple.
Great prof! I recommend going to her classes and studying her notes! 10 quizzes, 3 midterms, and 2 papers, and a final exam. These exams are kind of hard so you just have to study study study.
Like everyone said, her class is pretty easy. 10 ilearn quizzes with unlimited tries. midterms and final were pretty easy. 2 papers that were a pain, but simple. I'd recommend her class to anyone.
Exceptional! Tests are difficult but fair and she makes her expectations clear, providing detailed review sheets.
i loved her class! she influenced me to change my major and concentrate on physiology. her class can be hard if you don't go to class and don't study. she is straight forward but you need to really understand the material in order to do good. she curves her grading scale by how the overall scores are. she is very fair and overall a great teacher
First class I had in the morning and I did not fall asleep in class...so that should be a good thing. She's sometimes funny during lectures and writes notes along with her lectures on overhead transparency so everyone stays on top of what she says. Tests are all about memorization though but you get review sheets
Overall, a great teacher. I enjoyed this class, if I would've studied for the tests I probably would've done better!
Biology is a hard subject, but she makes the class as clear and understandable as possible. Lectures are interesting, definitely go to class. Tests are difficult, but the review sheets are extremely helpful and there are no surprises on the tests. I worked hard and got a B+, but it's not impossible to get an A. Definitely recommended.
Take this teacher! She makes Biology so clear and easy to understand - even those who are dread science will want to come to class. She is very straightforward, and her exams are relatively easy. iLearn quizzes almost every week, but you can take them an unlimited amount of times.
Seriously, TAKE THIS CLASS. She makes this class as easy as possible. You still have to study hard to do well, but her review sheets are detailed and they really prepare you for the tests. Three midterms, one final, two papers, and 10 online quizzes (which are easy points). Definitely go to class, the lectures are interesting!
A great course and great instructor. Lectures are very intersting and she tries to make for us easy to understand the materials. Lecture topics are fun and it is mostly focused on human body! If you keep up and attend all lecture and take good notes you will be fine! Seriously take this course!
Dowdy makes human biology interesting and easy to comprehend.
Really easy class and she's clear.Almost like bio from highschool all over. She has a long and short paper. She curves grades too. I ended up getting an A.Just study from the study guide and you'll be good. I got straight 83% on the midterms but still pulled an A.Take notes even when she's not writing!
easy class, interesting lecture. reply to emails fast. gives really helpful study guides, you don't need to study anything else but the study guides. her midterms and final may sometimes be tricky because she will put "all of the above" or sometimes "two of the answers are correct".. first part of final can talk to people. second is by yourself.
She curves her grading for most of the assignments. You will do 3 midterms & a final including at least 9 quizzes & both essays (short-2 pp;long-4 pp) There will be lots of notes & the study guide is harder than the test. Since the class is TOO EASY, you can fall asleep, get bored or believe the class is the least of your priorities. STAY FOCUSED!
She is a really cool teacher. Her style is really clear and she lectures really well. However you really do need to go the lectures and take notes the whole time. She has anecdotes and interesting tid bits of info that she'll expect you to know. All of this is very interesting though i wasnt very interesting in bio but this class taugh me so much
The midterms & final exam are KILLER! I barely ever missed class, took superb notes...but her exams are so much harder than she lets on! On a positive note, she is a very good lecturer and I learned many interesting things from her class.
Perhaps the best lecturer I've eveer had at State, as well as in general. She knows her Biology, and makes sure her audience knows it as well. Although attendance isn't mandatory, if I were you...I wouldn't miss a single class, it's just not worth missing. Her exams are challenging, you really have to know the material! Take her!!!!!!!!
One of the best teachers out there. Very clear when it comes to explaining. Grade is based off test and quizzes. Quizzes are taken online and are an easy 100% because you are allowed as many tries as you want!
Dowdy is a great lecturer and literally has the same methodologies in teaching and trickiness in testing as Professor Schulz does. I strongly recommend taking physiology from her especially if its your major. when you're done you will know the subject extremely well and can think physiological process through.
Great personality, very friendly-- speaks very clearly and succinctly. Online quizzes on iLearn, basic materials and exams. Very helpful with students. Awesome teacher! Would def. recommend for bio nonmajors/majors alike.
Excellent teacher, one of the best teachers I've ever had. She's is extremely clear on the information she presents, and does not confuse you when it comes to tests and quizzes.Going to class will help you a lot cause lecture based questions will be asked on tests.
She is a great lecturer and makes the time in her class go by very fast. She definitely made me interested in biology. I would recommend going to class, because the majority of the tests are from her lectures.
Hands down best professor I have ever had in the 3 years I've been in college. You can tell she is passionate about what she teaches. Very knowledgeable and welcomes questions in class. Tests can be tricky, but her study guides help a lot (even thought they're long).
Really good lecturer. I hate biology before I took her class because I didn't get it, but she explains the topic very clearly and interesting. Tests comes mostly from lecture, and if u study the review sheet, u'll be fine is the tests, 2 papers (1 short+1 long),some hw and ilearn quizes which are easy. she gives us a little extra credits.
She truly is a teacher. Physiology is a hard subject to tackle , but she made even the most difficult subjects seem simple to understand. Attendance is not required, but strongly suggested as her exams are based on her lectures. Go to class, record her lectures, rewrite your notes and you can get an A
Her tests were really hard
BEST BIO TEACHER. Attendance isn't mandatory but I suggest that you go because her notes are super helpful when it comes to the study guides(she makes class pass by fast anyway). She explains things so well that I asked her for help with Bio210. Midterms can be difficult but you should be fine and get an A if you go to class/take notes.
Pretty much my favorite class because it's just smooth learning all semester. I don't get any stress from this class, but at the same time still learning a lot of new things
AMAZING AMAZING instructor.Take her if you have the chance. This is a difficult class but you will learn so much if you go to lecture and study like you're supposed to. She is extremely knowledgeable and answers all questions with great clarity. Take Dowdy if you have the chance, probably the best professor I have had at SF state.
She is a very clear lecturer. She explains the bio concepts so well. It is interesting because she talks about bio concept relate to out daily life. exams are not hard if you study her notes and study guides well. Two papers (short n long). gives extra credits. I got an A with extra credit, though I got C in final
Lectures are useful for study guides.Exams are average. For her papers, her graders will mark you as if it was an upper division english class. Sometimes they make unnecessary marks. You must get her attention to look over it after getting the paper back
Acknowledge that most of these reviews are for Bio 100. For 610, the majority of the class get Cs. Study guides are long. She'll let you in if you have anatomy or chem. If you have neither, don't bother crashing the class. The ones who do better have taken anatomy. Those who only took chem do worse. Take at a cc or do anatomy first to do good
Difficult class if you dislike biology. Exams are hard, but online quizzes can be taken as many times as you would like. The study guides are very long and tedious.
Professor Dowdy is a really great lecturer. She does online quizzes that you can take as many times as you want until you get a perfect score (10pts). She also gives free points if you do the modules that come with the bio book. Two papers. Four exams. The study guides are very useful. I highly recommend taking her class. :)
Dowdy is probably one of the best science professors I have ever had. She teaches until everyone understands what she's saying. Only online quizzes, 2 easy papers, 4 exams, some super easy online hw and tons of extra credit! I would suggest taking her class especially if you're in lab too.
Dowdy is average and nothing more. Yes she explains the material clearly, but she fails in putting the material into content. Her exams are horrible and require remote memorization, rather than applying the physiology to real-life situations. I learned more physio in my lab course. I think her teaching caters to unintelligent.
Loved this class. Bio isn't my favorite subject but she made the material easy and enjoyable. You must show up to class and copy her notes. Her tests are hard but she gives long study guides, and 70% of the answers are from your notes. You do use the textbook. Extra credit at the end. I recommend this class.
Her lectures are interesting, but her tests are more detailed then lectures. Study old tests (she won't give answers) and start her study guides as soon as she posts them. The book is very dense, so go by the study guide and that will give you the necessities and not random details. Final is very hard, read questions thoroughly on the tests.
Hands down the best Bio professor I have ever had. Exams are based on the lectures. No tricks. Extremely hard but rewarding. You'll know physiology after this class.
she's definitely a great teacher. physiology is a tough class and biology in general requires memorization. she posts study guides and practice exam. it's a lot of material on the study guide but you should do it! and the practice exam. and use her also for help, she's definitely helpful.
She is a really sweet lady and shes nice, her class is usually large and is lectured based, there is two research papers that are fairly easy, she has a mid term and a pretty easy finals because u can work in a group for one part of it. There is hw but its easy and its like 1 every 2 weeks, just study her lecture notes and read the textbook a lil
Professor Dowdy is excellent at what she does. She's is very straightforward and provides clarity if needed. If you need help, she is always more than happy to help you improve in class and also helps you review tests. She is a very fair grader, the class consists of 4 tests (1 final) and 10 quizzes.
She's really good! Has good class structure and gives you everything you need to do well. Her tests can be tough in that the questions test that you know the material, not just memorized it. TAKE HER
Awesome teacher! Makes the information relevant, grading is fairly easy, gives a study guide for each exam that is practically the same as the test you get. It would be a big mistake if you didn't take her class!
Professor Dowdy is the best professor I've ever had. She is very clear and thorough in her lectures, comes well prepared, and actually makes the lecture interesting. She made the class very enjoyable and I've always hated science classes in the past. I 100% recommend her!
The best Biology teacher I ever have. I can't tell you how much I hate biology, but I love her class. Show up, listen to the lecture and take good notes, study the lecture and the study guides. you will pass the class with good grade. Some extra credit at the end of the semester
Word of Advice: Pay attention to EVERYTHING she says during lecture, take the most notes you can. Just by doing that and filling out the review she provides, you are destined for an A.
Literally the greatest professor I've ever had. She has a beautiful soul that is beyond mankind. Love you Lynn!!!
Physiology is a difficult class, no doubt about that; however, Dr. Dowdy explains the material very well, connecting the info to clinical practices as seen in the medical field as well as connecting the info to past lectures, helping to reinforce and instill the info already taught in class. One of the best science professors offered at sfsu!!!
Soooo easyyy.
Very easy professor. Going to class will help you understand, but you can get away with not going and just doing the study guide on your own. Two papers, short and easy. 3 midterms that are not difficult if you prep for them. Part of the final is group work, the rest is pretty straight forward. Highly recommend, fun and very nice/helpful
Dowdy's lectures are well organized and packed with necessary material; plus, she responds to emails promptly. On the other hand, her quizzes/exams are multiple choice questions designed to do more harm than help students apply concepts to real life. Her method of teaching and formulating exams do not make sense to me. Good luck taking her class!
Lynne Dowdy is by far one of the best teachers I have. She makes class so interesting and captures my attention quick. I'm so glad I'm taking her class because she makes things so clear and gives examples as well. I want to tell her that she's great, but I'm shy, so I hope she reads this! Looking forward to a fun semester!
Wow Physio is so incredibly difficult. I've spent HOURS studying for those exams, attend every class and have been doing horribly. I am usually an A student and I will be lucky if I get a B in this class. Very discouraging.
I had her for physiology. I worked very, very, hard and still got a B. This class is not easy. She is one of the finest professors at SFSU. You really need to pay attention, read, and attend class. She gives you a run for your money! Great instructor. Highly advise taking her Physio class!
Lynne is an awesome professor, very structured and clear. However, this class is pretty difficult. The tests are kind of hard. There are some online quizzes throughout the semester, also a little on the difficult side, but at least you can use your notes. Write down everything she says.
Best teacher I have ever had. Very difficult material, but she's so good that the "epiphany" moments happen as she speaks rather than having to spend hours figuring it out later. 2 midterms, 1 final, 6 online quizzes (worst dropped). Grades on a steep curve which is awesome. Attendance not mandatory but GO, makes your life so much easier. TAKE HER!
Such a kind professor, and a great sense of humor. Very clear during her lectures, and sometimes repeats herself to make sure students get it. This class isn't easy, but take clear notes and study hard. You should be fine. Oh ya and she curves.
Super sweet and knows her stuff. Easy as heck. Literally show up and you will pass.
Lynne is the homie. If you want an easy A I highly recommend her. Just make sure you go to the class the notes are super easy and the tests are fairly easy. Hardest thing about the class would be writing the research papers and those aren't even bad. Highly recommend her.
Lynne is amazing. She is knowledgeable and the nicest lady ever. The class is very interesting& it can be a pretty easy A. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you miss a class it can throw you off. Her lectures are not boring at all & she relates them to real life situations which makes them memorable. 2 papers, 3 exams, 1 final & hw here and there.
A lot of review from high school biology. We never used the text book in class (even though it's a "requirement") just need the connect pass thing, but the textbook is helpful when doing the connect assignments.
Dowdy is HARD. Of all the courses I've taken, this is the most challenging. She requires that you understand every aspect of everything in order to do well on the exams. She is a great lecturer, but the vocabulary on the exam is more advanced than what she presents in lecture. All in all, be prepared, this class is going to be quite the obstacle.
Boring as sin. Hard for me because I'm on tumblr the whole time, but would probably be easier if I paid attention. Grades on a curve, drops a test.
I like her a lot as a person and a teacher but the way her curriculum is weighted is misleading at first glance. There are so many assignments and quizzes that you would think would compensate for one meh test score when in reality, having 100 percent in everything else and one meh test score a meh grade in the class.
I'm going to give you the key to succeeding in Professor Dowdy's class. Make connections between the abstract material taught. The thing about physiology is that everything is connected and impacts each other, and so if you are able to create connections with the information that Dowdy provides, you're golden. Be warned, it can get confusing.
Wouldn't recommend this class to someone who is looking for an easy a. Dowdy's exams are extremely hard. She gives a study guide but doing the study guide doesn't mean you will do well on the exams. I answered every question on the study guide and reviewed the material yet still got a c on every exam. wouldn't want to take this class again.
Very professional and good for an entry level bio course. Her grading rubric is very clearly outlined and as long as you keep up with the online quizzes and homework, you have that for you. Her in class exams and essays are graded fairly tough though. Even though she doesn't include a lot of humor in her lectures, she is still quite interesting.
Her class encouraged me to become a Biology major. She is really good at what she does, but do not expect easy. There are 2 papers to write and I believe 4 exams, multiple quizzes and lots of E.C. She is reasonable but her exams sometimes contain material she never talked about. She is very clear when teaching. I received an A & it was interesting.
Dowdy is a great lecturer, and she will make you like physio. I highly recommend record the lecture and write down everything she says. Tests are fair and based on lec, but some questions are very tricky. Make sure you do the old exams before the test. Go to her office hour if you need help. Extra credits are given, and the class is curved.
Lectures are interesting. Write all of the notes she presents in class and read the book. Tests are based on lectextbook. Some questions are tough, so do study ahead of time. 2 essays, bunch of quizzes, 3 exams, 1 final. Tip: she sometimes recycles Q's from previous tests, so study the old exams before the final. She gives h.w online, pretty easy.
HEAVY, DENSE material to fully understand & memorize. Have study groups/sessions. Do the homework, clickers, extra credit, old exam questions. Record the lectures if you can. Not an easy A or an easy B. Wouldn't take it with too many hardcore classes, needs a lot of your time.
she was an amazing teacher. her quizzes are all online and you can take them a many times as you need in the time period she gives. the homework is all online but she does it by chapters so they are pretty long but very easy. she is the type of teacher that really wants her students to pass.
Lynne is a very caring professor. She understands students and always offers her own time to help. She is a great lecturer but the material was very dense. Class lectures are all posted on iLearn. Class is curved, she tries to make sure everyone passes as long as you try you will do good. She is clear Study groups & good notes are key to passing.
Great lectures. Never a dull moment. Take good notes in class and listen to the recordings. Every thing you need to succeed in those challenging exams are discussed in lecture. Didn't read the book because it was way too much info. Offers extra credit. The cumulative final exam was extremely challenging, but it's physiology so that's a no brainer.
Material is crazy hard, of course -- it lives up to its 600 level course number -- but Dowdy does a great job of teaching it. Very specific about what she wants you to say for written portion. Uses online homework, Clickers, and sometimes extra credit. Will curve to help people who are doing alright, but are scoring badly, pass. Good luck!
does an amazing job condensing and presenting the information in a clear and orderly manner. the key to success in her class is to write down as much as you can in class and then listen to lecture recordings from that day (she posts them online) to fill in what you missed, I did not use the book at all, everything on the exams is from her lectures.
Prof. Dowdy clearly interprets physiology in simple terms for students to understand. Physio is a generally a difficult subject, so you should go to office hours& make study groups. She also curves the grading scale based on the first midterm. There are 2 Midterms and 1 Final. Don't underestimate her online quizzes & the first bio/Chem online quiz!
The BEST professor ever. Before exams she always send out review sheet. All the quiz can be retaken. As long as you finish the homewrok before deadline, you will always get full points on them.
She is a really good teacher only downfall her exams are nothing like what you do with hw or with lectures! She jumps around from chpt to chpt like most professors b/c all of systems are related to each other. A lot of studying is needed for this class. Sit next to people are willing to study and go over material with you helps w/ clicker questions
the prof is a really good teacher, she is very clear and trys her best to help her students succeed in her class. her tests are really hard but if you study you will be fine.
ProfDowdy was an amazing instructor. She takes time to help her students understand her very dense lectures. If you want to pass this class, make sure to review your notes as much as you can and also the book. She records her lecture so go back to that bc exams are based on that. skipping class' ok, but you might miss clicker& index card questions
She's really sweet and obviously super passionate about human bio. If you learn from power points and seeing notes then this is not the class for you. She writes a few words on board but other then that you have to jot down a lot of what she is saying. Two research papers. Exams are nothing like homework and lectures. Have to teach yourself a lot
Lynne is one of the best biology lecturers at SFSU. Despite this, Human Physiology is a very difficult class and requires a TON of memorization and understanding. There are 6 quizzes given, 1 dropped. If you do well on your final, she will DROP your lowest test score. Attendance is mandatory to receive points. She's awesome!
Lynne is a very nice professor. You can tell she wants all her students to pass her class. She is passionate about biology. There are 2 research papers, 8 online open book quizzes, 3 exams, and the final. There is also about 15 online hw assignments, but you get unlimited tries. She gives thorough study guides before exams. Good professor overall.
Lynne was such a great professor and really teaches in a very fun way but sometimes her lectures can be heavy. Make sure to show up cuz she does clicker questions which are an easy A, she gives 2 science papers, one graded by peers one by her which were easy and very interesting topics. Do well on her exams, she lets you drop one
Had Manuguid first and failed. Decided to take Dowdy second time around and i don't regret it at all. She's amazing! HIGHLY RECOMMEND TAKING HER FOR BIO 212. Gives extra credit @ end of semester. Attend every class so u don't miss clicker q. Do ALL online hw. Find people in class to work with. Don't underestimate chem/bio first test. Easy quizzes.
This course is mainly for pre-nursing and pre-kinesiology majors, one tip on how to do good on the exams is to form a study group, do the review guides she provides every week. There's a bio/chem quiz (don't underestimate it) along with 6 other quiz (she drops the lowest one). Form a study group, it'll help you out in the long run. "STUDY STUDY"!!!
The lectures are easy to follow and she does record them. However, I found that the study guide is really broad and a lot of the info on them isn't even on the tests. This is definitely one of the classes that you have to read and understand the textbook well in order to pass. Has high stakes clicker questions to get people to come to class.
DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE BIO/CHEM QUIZ. thought it was gonna be easy but there's a lot of equations and definition on it. Class wise, Lynne talks fast so pay close attention. iClicker required. Gives study guides but it's broad, study her lectures. Her class was definitely easier than the lab tho
Lynne is an amazing lecturer!! She teaches so well and makes physio easier to understand! Really need to know the material to do well on her exams. Super approachable and is always willing to help her students
Challenging content so yes it's hard, but lectures very well. Very clear and records lectures, watching them back and making notecards is the best way to study for exams. Must have really curved grades at the end of the semester because I thought I was going to get a D, but ended up with a B. Gives some extra credit at end of semester.
Lynne is a fantastic lecturer. Phys is a difficult subject, but she explains it in a simple, logical way. She repeats the important/difficult concepts so it sticks & approaches them from many angles ("in other words..") Take good notes during lecture & revisit them. Read the textbook thoroughly & use her resources. Tough class but u will LEARN
Prof. Dowdy is such a great lecturer!! It is clear that she's passionate, which makes the students interested/passionate as well. The class is quite difficult with it's tests (especially the exams), but physiology is a difficult in general. Study hard!
Bio/chem review test, 2 exams and final. She offers extra credit in the middle and end of the semester. iClicker questions worth points so attend class. She is very passionate about the subject and caring towards students. Approachable and friendly. Exams are super difficult, often ask very specific questions so read the textbook!
Her lectures consists of her showing pictures and her describing them. Her exams are super difficult compared to the quizzes. Also, her study guides are way too broad. Although she's kind she should change the way she runs her class. we took a bio/chem, 2 midterms and one cumulative final. The good thing is that she grades on a curve!
The first college professor that I disliked. She definitely knows what she's talking about but when the class complained that her tests were too hard and had too many questions for the time given, she told us we needed better study habits. Do not take her if she teaches a pre-req, she will seriously make you consider a career change.
Homework was horrible! She lazily made you do the textbook's built in test that took hours to complete because if you answered a question once it didn't count as one finished problem- instead you had to answer that question 3-4 times for it to count as one correct problem, and you have to complete 64-100 total of the same randomized questions!
Professor Dowdy is one of the best professors at SFSU. Yes, her class is hard but at the end, you will really know human physiology. This is an active learning class so you need to do more than just going to lectures or reading the book. You have to stay on top of the material and be able to understand how the body systems work together
Lynne is very passionate about physio but is the most terrible teacher and does not care for her students. She will look down on you and belittle you if you do not understand the subject immediately. She does not take into consideration any concerns that students bring up and almost dismisses them. Tests are hard and study guides don't help.
This class is difficult. Stay on top of lectures, you really don't want to fall behind or else you will fail. Attend lectures, and study your notes because the study guides are nothing like the exams, and the exams are very quick pace/not enough time.
GIRL SHE WAS HARD AS HAIL!!!!! Physiology is a very difficult subject, and especially hard to fully fit into just one semester so I get it. However, for being online, it was genuinely a very fast-paced and strenuous class. Don't miss class, it's super easy to fall behind, and you'll fallbehinf FAST.
Prof. Dowdy is AMAZING! She really cares about how the students are doing and is very clear about what we need to know. Studying well is CRITICAL to pass and you will need to change how you study. She really has a passion for physiology and that passion is contagious! She makes learning the subject really fun and I definitely recommend taking her!!
This class will stress you out more than you can ever image. You will not learn anything, you do not have any resources to support you, and she is judgmental and looks down upon you if you ask for help. She intentionally sets you up in asking the same thing but in different vague wording styles to deter you and the exams are super difficult, AVOID.
This has been the worst class at SFSU. If you can avoid taking her please do. She doesn't give enough time for tests, her lecture slides are just pictures, she doesn't really teach just shows pictures and talks about how she likes this diagram better than the one in the textbook.
She goes super fast in class and really doesn't explain the steps o physiology just kinda glances over everything. The test reviews are no help just endless topics that will have you stressed out. Then when you get to test specific questions that aren't about general topics are asked. EXPECTS you to know all material but doesn't test on it.
. Her quizzes do not reflect the exams at all. Homework is way too long for the number of points. Imagine 300-500 questions so multiple hours for 10-15 points, is a waste of time and not effective to study.
You go to class and study hard just to go into an exam and feel completely unprepared due to trick questions and the way she words things is just to trick you. I have taken physiology classes before for nursing and it was hard work but in this class, you can do everything and still do really bad. Most people in my class end up doing poorly.
I would say that this teacher is a good teacher over all. she's good at explaining in lecture, but tests on the material can be on the difficult side. i would say even if attendance is not mandatory (fall 2022), you should still go to lecture because she does not record at all. Homework is on the extreme side so start early because its NO JOKE!!!!!
For your sake I am telling you, NEVER take her!! You will sit in every class for 50 minutes trying to catch up with a pace and amount of information that no student will ever bear. Homework is 5-6 hours of questions for 10-15 points average. Quizzes will not prepare you for the exams. NOTHING will prepare you for the exams. She has no heart! Avoid!
Pro: good lecturer Con: homework consists of answering about 300-500 questions and take multiple days to finish. I didnt find it that helpful with learning since it was so dreading. Exams are really difficult. She and her TA grade free responses with no mercy. No curve. No EC. Does not record lectures. Her slides dont have much info, she just talks
Good lecturer and well spoken. I recorded all lectures and re-listened to them to study. She speaks carefully and explains concepts well. Gives extra credit and will help if you ask. Con is that if you miss her lectures, you will miss a lot. Homework is 300-500 questions every other week. Tests are super difficult (timing)! Hard to get an A or B.
Professor Dowdy's tests are pretty hard but her lectures were always engaging and she also always made sure to give us extra credit opportunities. I genuinely did enjoy her class!
class and professor, not too bad. really need to apply yourself and learn the material. do the homework, show up to class, and study, you should be fine
Lectures very packed w/ material & slides not useful w/o lecture, random index card questions were graded for attendance. HW extremely long but graded on completion. Exams in-person, long, difficult, & worth too many points. Final brought down grade 9%, many hours of studying, recommend other profs, lot of material learned. Online quizzes easier
Extremely dense class and exams require you to study so much material and only tests on a fraction of it. Homework assignments take anywhere from 2-5 hours to complete. Course is cumulative, so it matters not to get behind. She does offer a generous amount of extra credit at the end of semester. Final was ungodly painful and difficult.
Was a very hard class but a great professor! lectures are great and very thorough. exams on the other hand are crazy hard/ 3-4 pages of multiple choice and 3-4 pages of short response and you only have an hour to take it sooo.... other than that, she emails you back promptly and helps you with ANYTHING! overall great professor and very hard class.
Amazing lecturer but her exams are EXTREMELY TOUGH... especially the short answers. This class is only 3 units but technically it should be worth 5 units lol. This is not the type of class where you can only study the week before and expect yourself to slay. If you wanna slay you better study every single week period
super hard tests, whatever is on the study guide probably will not show up on the exam, homework is very time consuming
Lynne is a great lecturer. I highly advise you to show up to all the lectures to do well in this class. This class is HARD and takes a lot of work. You have to study in advance for all exams in order to do well, dont expect to do well after studying for a week! Study from day one! Requires you to know a lot but only tests on a bit of it which sucks
I absolutely LOVED Lynne. She made me want to go into healthcare even more with the way she lectures. Her exams are incredibly difficult, so as these other reviews state, studying a week before will not help. Making sure you understand the material is important. She is 100% worth the difficult exams though, she's amazing and one of the best.
Professor Dowdy's lectures are engaging, but her exams are incredibly challenging. Staying on top of the material is crucial, as last-minute studying won't cut it. unstuckstudy AI has been a lifesaver for exam prep alongside the course textbook.
Overall a difficult subject, there are participation points for attending certain classes, extra credit is random so show up! study guides are extremely long, tests are hard require you to really know the material. 3 exams, 6 online quizzes, homework is through cengage and can be time consuming, lowest exam is dropped. No projects. Lynne is nice :)
Lynne is kind and knowledgeable about the subject! It is A LOT of information, she counts attendance for points (only some classes) extra credit is random so show up! no projects, 3 exams, 6 online quizzes, weekly homework can be time consuming it's connected to the textbook! study guides are very long (optional), exams are hard. Lectures recorded!
never want to take this class ever again:)
This class is insanely hard. The lectures are amazing and you feel like you know everything after. The tests are super difficult and you have to study and make sure you know everything by memory as cramming will not work for this class, there is too much information to cram. Lots of online homework but it is not hard.
Dowdy overall is a mediocre professor, she's nice, caring, and has most of the attributes of a professor that you want, but she does not teach well. Her teaching method consists of talking a lot, skipping parts of her own slides, and claiming that you will not get far if you don't do 'xyz'. Too bad that there is no other professor for this course.
SO MUCH HW! It might seem chill at the beginning but around the end of the semester the HW topics increase exponentially. Taking notes on both lecture and textbook separately will help a lot. Gives EC after exams, but the exams are also super long and we barely have enough time to dilly dally or think long. DON'T take this with other hard classes.
I HATED this course. It was so much thrown at you at once, and her exams weren't always the same as the material you learned. HW was super heavy in this course, and attendance was random. You really gotta put this class first if you wanna pass the first time around
Is she extremely educated and smart? Yes. Would I chose to take her class again? Not in a million years. The way she teaches makes it feel like we are supposed to know everything the second we walk in. Her class is known to be extremely difficult and for that reason, I don't recommend taking. Her Muti Choice tests are also extremely hard!!
You CANNOT miss a day. Each lecture is just as important as the last one, if you miss one you already set yourself a step back. Exams are tough, but if you study and understand the material you'll be fine. A tip is understand it so much you can explain every concept to a 6th grader. If you're able to do that you'll succeed.
This was probably one of the hardest classes i've had to take. She's good at lecturing, but if you miss a single day, you will be behind. Her tests are extremely difficult and you feel as though you barely have enough time to complete it. Homework assignments are long, but she gives you more than enough time to complete them.
Lynne enjoys teaching Physiology, however her way of teaching didn't help when it came to studying for her tests. There are random index card questions for attendance so make sure you look at the lectures before hand to know what class you can afford to miss. The final isn't based on any previous questions she gave before. Tread lightly! Study hard
