She gives out way to much work. She treats you like you are in 3rd grade. One day we learned with leggo blocks. The last day of class we are having a party and everybody has to make some food for it.
Wow. Did I accidently go back to kindergarden? "Ms" Meade is so elementary and redundant that I want to vomit. She is a busy-work queen and puts way too much emphasis into the impotance of a basic course. AVOID her or suffer the mind-numbing
too much busy work! the elementary level at which she teaches does NOT inspire me to learn. it makes me feel like she thinks her students are idiots incapable of mature thinking! it's totally degrading.
She's nice. But it is an easy class. If I'm required to take it and add another 4.0 to my transcript, then so be it. You other babies need to quit whining. If you don't like, don't go, but I have learned something from this class and I find myself applying it all the time.
I totally agree! This woman drives me bonkers and gives this course a bad name.If she continues to teach at the college level she is devaluing our college education/degrees! It is absolutely insulting to be treated like a 5 yr.old
Listen to these posts! She is by far the WORST comm instructor you can take. She treats everyone like they are children - its insulting. Tons of pointless busy work and random "activities." She takes an already basic course and throws it back to the Kindergarden level. AVOID HER NO MATTER WHAT.
She treats you like you are in kindergarten, and you do time-wasting, pointless activities almost every class. Also, she isn't very clear or objective in her grading. It isn't a particularly hard class, but it is an annoyance.
I dont know who is complaining about this class being easy, because I LOVE EASY CLASSES!! This is an easy EASY A! Do your work & you will get an A.For the final we are going to ELLA'S for a toast!! No tests!
Stop whining and maybe she won't treat you like a baby! I love her! She is very flexible and extremely helpful. She is very smart and well aware of everyone in her class. She makes class fun and never boring. go rag on Rosteck, he's the prick.
Terrible teacher. She grades based on a ruberic, not how good your speech was. She would make a great kindergarten teacher, but I don't know how she got a job teaching for the university.
Very clear on what is expected. I learned alot in this class. If you don't like her, you have no reference to what a bad instructor really is.

She could hands down ruin your college experience. Stay away from her as instructor no matter what. Not just the worst in the comm dept - she could easily be the worst at the entire university!
Very obnoxious, I hate the way she is making us do the speeches on the same topic.. The class was somewhat interesting till she went and messed it up. What happend to the simple structure of a speech. She has nothing else to do then to make things more stressful then they already are. get a life women!
The easiest teacher ive had. You do alot of easy groupwork... yea some of it is childlike busy work, but its easy. Just pay attention and almost guranteed a "B". She is pretty corny sometimes though.
Yeah she may treat everyone like a child, but this class is extremely easy, and she is a really nice person who loves to teach. She is an easy grader who wants to see everyone do well. If you go to class and put a little effort into your speeches you will at worse recieve a B.
If you can handle being treated like a child and controversial test questions, go for otherwise get the hell out. Find friends in Communication, pitch in for one book and make copies of the rubrics cause you cant sell it back.
She makes this class easy. She's very clear while explaining things from the book (gives good analogies) but somewhat unclear with her speech instructions. Tests are the EASIEST thing you'll do all semester. BE SURE YOU DO YOUR HOMEWORK though (OUTLINES) - she actually takes a grade on them ALL. I recommend taking her for this course.
She isn't very much help. And her tests don't help all that much either.
I thought she was very nice. I can see why people would say that she is an elementry teacher, but she knows what she is talking about and is very helpful. Very easy class if you put a little bit of effort and do well on the speeches, you'll get an A.
She is such an incredibly nice person who loves to see everyone happy and doing well. the class is relatively easy and you'll do well if you study and do your homework and do well on your speeches. She is also a good teacher, maybe a bit immature at times but good none the less.
Absolutely the worst ever. Knows very little about communication beyond what is in the textbook, seems bored with teaching, talks to college students like we are in grade school. Avoid at all costs.
I took her for Nonverbal and it was an awesome class. She is good at kind of embarassing you, but the class overall is very easy and interesting! I recommend it!
She was okay. The posts before are correct though. She does treat you like a child. However, since this is a freshman level course it helps with the transition. I suggest if you have to take this class with her that you write out your speech and memorize it. Apparently she likes for you to sound rehearsed as though you are reading it off your paper
Tests are hard and she grades very hard on speeches.
Not a bad teacher. Tests are pretty easy, though the questions have little to do with lecture, and are picked randomly from the book and are not phrased well. At first her enthusiasm is fun, but it gets boring very quick. If you put minimal effort into the class, you can easily get an A. Speeches are squeezed into last 1/3 of semester.
Meade totally rocks to put in plainly. Knows what she's doing. Will make you a better speaker. I'm a pretty experienced speaker and still learn some cool stuff. The class is much harder than you think, though. You have to really make some stellar outlines and stuff with strict guidelines. It is a very fun class. You go out to eat for the final!
You guys that are complaining about the hard tests and the busy work in 1313 must not understand that everyone who teaches that class is required to use the same test, book, homework, and speech topics. She's very helpful, and she makes everything applicable and interesting. She wants you to pass and she'll help you in any way to make it happen.
Speaks to you like a 2 year old in senior level classes!! I had an SOLID "A" in the class and received a B.. Even after asking about the grades she refused to change my grade (there was confusion caused by her)!! Lots of Busy work!! And test are pointless!! I would stay away from her classes!!
This is a college level course, and this woman treats everyone as though they are 8 years old. It's insulting, really. She also gave me less than a 50% on a midterm I spent 4 hours on without making it clear why she gave me that grade. If self-righteous idiots make you angry, this is not the class for you.
One of the best profesor you can take!!
She's the best teacher I've had in college. Yes, she makes you do dumb stuff, but come on guys, it's a freaking public speaking class. Everything you do will help you be a better public speaker. I've given several speeches since I had her and I used a lot of what she taught me in them. If you're taking a comm class take her if you can.
I LOVE this professor. I took her class last semester, worked hard, and made an A. You will be a better public speaker because of her. A note on the previous complaint about her take-home midterm...5 parts/20 points each...confusing but just ask for clarification in advance (or it could hurt your grade). She is a wonderful person & teacher!!!
She is so AWESOME! Awesome person, awesome teacher; take anything you can from her. In my speech class we did have to do a ridiculous amount of references for each speech and the group speech was a pain, but regardless, take her! It was my favorite class this year!
I love love love Dr. Meade. Had her for public speaking this semester and really became a much better speaker. As long as you do your best, she will give you a good grade. Make sure you follow her requirements for each speech though. They are clearly listed on each rubric, so you shouldn't have a problem.
Dr. Meade is animated and engaging. I think the pervasive "busywork" impression is a bit misguided; she genuinely tries to engage you at your level. Her style is elementary, but content is rich, and there's real potential to learn. Give your speeches good effort and you'll get an A. Maybe even learn something if you're not careful.
I have her for honors public speaking. she is nice and very interesting, but she graded me pretty hard on a few omy speeches. but overall, a i enjoy her class. she did give some busy work
shes tight if you actually go to class and she does thing different then any other teacher. I really liked her teaching style
Had her for Adv Public Speaking. She is INCREDIBLE. I was hesitant about taking another speech class but I will never regret it. This was the best class I have ever taken at the University. She is the best teacher I have ever had here. Our class became like family. the last day there were hugs & tears because we didn't want the semester to be over.
great class! one of the best i've taken. this class made me switch my major. there's lots of speeches but the class all become close and we're all friends because of dr meade!
She is really passinonate about public speaking and is a great teacher but if you can take an easier one you should. Our class has to do so much more than the other public speaking classes.
I absolutely ADORE Dr. Meade! She is very passionate about teaching. I took her Persuasion class over the summer and it is by far one of my favorite classes yet! If you can get into any/all of her classes I highly suggest you do so! She makes learning interesting and fun! Her tests aren't too bad if you actually pay attention and take notes.
Dr Meade was a little confusing with the online section because the due date of things was sometimes unclear. We met a couple of times in person and she was really sweet. She is probably a better professor in person but the online option is not difficult at all.
I LOVE Dr. Meade! I am a senior and have had her twice. I would much rather have things over communicated or simplified than deal with the overly liberal (we get it, you're a feminist), tries-to-hard-to-sound-smart, really couldn't care less if you learned anything professors. My persuasion class was awesome and I still apply the skills today.
Dr. Meade is very interesting to hear lecture. Persuasion Class was one of my favorite classes last semester. Her tests are concept based vs vocabulary based so make sure you read and understand the material. Attendance was clicker quiz graded but she dropped a bunch of the points later(you can miss a few but don't miss a lot). Id take her again.
Dr. Meade is truly an amazing teacher! I am the type to try and skim by doing the bare minimum, but she makes things so fun and interesting that you don't want to do that all! The classes are super interactive so it's never boring. Study for the tests and come to class and you will make an A for sure! have taken 3 classes by her!
Best Speech teacher you could ever have.
Advanced Public Speaking with Dr. Meade was my favorite class i've ever taken at this University! I was really hesitant to take it as a senior because I just took it as an additional elective, but i'm so so glad I did! Don't be scared off by the word 'advanced' like I almost was. She makes public speaking easy and you will become a better speaker!
I loved Dr. Meade for Advanced Public Speaking. I truly learned a lot of useful skills in that class. She makes every one of her lectures really fun. She tells you in the beginning of the class that by the end, you'll all be like family -- she isn't kidding! I'm already signed up for another one of her classes!
Dr. Meade is honestly one of the best profs I have ever had (and I've had killer profs). At first it does feel like high school, but you soon realize that she KNOWS HER STUFF. Brilliant and extremely engaging. You do have to work for your grade, but no busy work. She really invests in her students. You WILL improve your speaking skills.
She takes this course VERY seriously so know that you MUST show up to all classes and put more effort in than you expected. She is a cool lady and I enjoyed her lectures but sometimes her grading was a little extreme. DONE buy the text book, never opened it.
Dr. Meade is literally the best Professor I've ever had in my life. She is so passionate about what she does that she convinces YOU to be passionate about it. She creates a totally non-judgmental environment and really encourages you to put yourself out there. Harder than your average Public Speaking class but it's so worth it. Take her class!
You're missing a lot if you have not taken her already!! She teaches non-verbal communication, persuasion, diverse world, public and advance public speaking!!
My word Dr. Meade is one of the best professors in existence. I cannot tell you how amazing she is because the English language does not have an adequate number of verbs to describe how incredible she is. She is brilliant, kind, personable, and caring. She wants absolute success for her students. She has taught me far more than how to speak well.
Dr. Meade is passionate and it shines through in her teaching styles. She really cares about her students & feedback & whether or not theyre enjoying class time. There are only a few tests and if you study you will be fine. Dr. Meade is friendly & more focused on making sure her students learn rather than having them memorize pointless things.
Dr. Meade is very passionate. She does take her class very seriously, so participation is important. There are several online quizzes and only a few tests. Her tests were fairly easy, as long as you reviewed the class material before hand. We did a lot of in-class discussions and she brought in a couple guest speakers, which were very interesting.
Dr. Meade is one of the sweetest professors I've ever had!! You can tell she genuinely cares for her students. She's not a super hard grader as long as you are prepared. You're only allowed 3 misses a semester before you're docked a letter grade, so make sure you come to class.
This was by far my favorite class I have taken! Super easy if you show up and at least try on your speeches. Try to get to know her and you'll do even better.
This class has by far been one of the best classes I've taken. Dr. Meade - Phenomenal! She is so passionate about this class that it's infectious. Very caring, and inspirational and wants you to succeed. The class is an easy A as long as you prepare. And the preparation stage is not a difficult one at all. Would HIGHLY recommend a class with her.
I took programming and calculus this semester but this was surprisingly the toughest class. She isnt flexible at all. Miss an assignment for medical reasons or any reason you loose points. Her classes are interesting and she really is pationate but it doesnt do students any good if you are gonna end up with bad grades no matter how hard you try
The class its self is easy but her tests were based on specific examples she used in class so it was important not to miss a lecture. To me, it made the tests more difficult because they were not straight forward. She's super loud and can be obnoxious. Overall, she is decent. Lotssssss of group work and talking to your classmates. Can't be shy!
She is an extremely tough grader. Will make what should be an easier course difficult. Would not recommend unless you want a low gpa.
Best Teacher I have had at the University so far and Im a junior here. Do your work and be yourself in her class and the class will change your life forever in a positive manner.
I've never been sadder to leave a class in my whole life. The people you meet in this class will be your family by the end of the semester I'm already signed up to take classes with some of them and then we're all going to Ireland with her this summer. Meade is truly one of those teachers that will change your life. Do yourself a favor and take her
This professor uses a different curriculum then all of the other speech teachers on campus. The speeches are always longer and will include more information and sources than any other speech professor. I would not recommend Mrs. Meade, especially if you are a freshman.
If you're looking for an easy social science or elective, this is NOT it, keep searching. There were only two exams and they were both pretty difficult. You have to read the textbook and understand the concepts if you want to do well on the exams. The lectures are nice tho.
A really tough grader and isn't forgiving at all. Made my freshman public speaking class so much harder than it should have been.
Very chatty but good professor. I enjoyed this class.
Wow, I took her public speaking class not expecting to enjoy it but thanks to Dr. Meade, she made it very enjoyable. I decided to take the 10 day COMM class to get it out of the way and it's a lot of work in a little time, but worth it. She is so caring and really loves what she does and loves her students. 10/10 would recommend.
Dr. Meade is great! I took her class during the COVID-19 pandemic. Weekly quizzes and only 2 tests. Tests used lots of specific examples so be sure to go to class and read the textbook! The honors section has a group project near the end of the semester, but very doable and won't stress you out. Not an easy A, but a really interesting class!
She comes off as fun and exciting during lectures but when talking to her one on one she seems to not care about helping and just wants you to leave her alone and figure out your own problems. It was more difficult than it needed to be. and she doesn't give a cumulative test review.
By far my favorite professor I have had so far!! All of her lectures were very easy to pay attention to because she used personal stories to explain certain concepts we learned. Everything was very organized and she always answered emails fairly quickly. At times some things got a little confusing by the way she communicated to us. Overall, amazing
I had Mead my first semester and I'm already going to be taking a different class from her again. Super kind and cares about COMM. Seriously take her class no matter the subject. She also is great to talk to 1 on 1 and will put u in contact with other people who can help u if she can't. I can't wait to take her again.
Attendance not mandatory, but the lecture info is only found in class, so go to class. Only two exams, but weekly folders (not bad) to watch videos and take quizzes over. Really easy class if you do the busy work and participate in class. Group work during class for points sometimes. Do the extra credit if you fall behind. Nice teacher.
Her slides typically don't line up with the test. READ THE BOOK, coming from someone who doesn't read.
This class had weekly assignments and 2 tests. The test were extremely hard and very wordy.
Dr. Meade's class has been great so far, and her passion/story-telling actually makes it pretty easy to pay attention to lectures. Make sure you go to class every Friday, you have to for discussion points!! All of the assignments are clearly lined out, and I did an extra credit folder that got my grade up to a 105% at one point.
Dr. Meade is one of my favorite professors of all time! She is so interesting and actually makes class fun. The weekly assignments are very easy. I've had an A+ since the beginning. Yes, the exams are somewhat difficult because its a lot of content, but if you do your work you will be fine. Dont skip on fridays its a lot to make up from discussions
She seems like she loves what she is lecturing about and that makes it a lot easier to sit through lectures. She is big on participation and engagement which is not the worst thing ever. There is a good amount of homework but nothing crazy, and there are only 2 exams and 1 major project so completing homework is super important. Overall, pretty good
Professor Meade was fun/eccentric, but the class was so lecture heavy that it blends together. Attendance isn't mandatory for M&W, but go to the Friday discussions as they are mandatory with little makeup. I recommend going to class, doing weekly folders done asap, and also start studying for the test in advance and not waiting for the last minute
I enjoyed Dr. Meade's class but I would've taken a different teacher if I could do it over. There are much easier communication classes. It really wasn't that hard (a folder with YouTube videos and quizzes each week) but I hated the group project at the end with my whole heart. There was little direction. Attendance is mandatory on Friday.
Doesn't give accommodations through the CEA, won't accept sick notes for missing class or assignments, and not understanding at all. She says on the first day of class that she will help you and listen to you but she never listens. She also never responds to emails and is not good about remembering to post assignments but doesn't extend due dates.
Overall, Lynn Meade is an a great professor. Throughout this online course, the material was easy to learn, and she made it easy to remember. However, some of the content in this course is outdated and would have been helpful 10 years ago. Also, she graded easy, but intention of the course, which is to help students professionally, was not 100% met
