Well what can I say. New teacher to SIUE, I read things about her from U of I (you should too)- I thought "Maybe she's changed from what people say? I'll give her a chance" Maybe I wish I didn't think that. I took Miller instead of De Meo because I hade De Meo for 1st semester Orgo and really didn't like her. Miller is as bad minus the accent.
Not a good teacher, extremely confusing. She will put things up on the board that are simple and then the test are 5 times as hard. We go way too in depth for Nursing majors. We are not Chemistry majors as she treats us. Tests are unbelievably hard, and that's with studying for hours. Avoid her if possible, take 120n instead in you have to.
She is so smart, that she lacks the ability to relay the material to students (most of us newcomers to the foreign language of Organic). This class/teacher frustrates me more than any class/teacher I have ever taken. I have never been sitting in class in my life thinking, "I am going to fail this class." until I took this course/professor. The End
Dr. Miller is a very nice person and is very helpful for one-on-one teaching. However, she lacks the ability to teach to the entire lecture hall. She is too smart in her subject and believes we all came in w/the same knowledge. Work hard to get through it for 1yr(Nursing). She WILL curve all EXAM grades ~20 pts! Go to class for the pop quizzes!
My friends said she was the worst professor they had at UofI and that she couldn't use a computer. Now, I know she also can't use a chalkboard. How did she get a PhD?
The only reason I am still in the class is because the class average is so low that she has to give us all the chance to redeem ourselves. She has us correct our exams and turn them back into her for 1/2 of the points we missed back! That's the only way I am getting a decent grade for sure!... otherwise I'd be failing.
This woman is easily the worst teacher I've ever had. If you get stuck with her, either drop the class or consider suicide. Either would do you more good than having her teaching.
She was very nice and easy. It was her first time teaching this class and most of the unclear parts of the class was due to the other professors unclear syllabus and exercises. not her! she made up for anything unclear. always willing to answer questions! great class!
Dr. Miller really knows her Chemistry. I think she is a good teacher. If you are not typically good at Chemistry, this class can become unbearable. The class requires a lot of effort outside the classroom. If you are having trouble you need to get a tudor and see Dr. Miller asap. She is very helpful in the office. Enjoyed class but it is hard!
I thought Dr. Miller was an extremely good professor. She listened to suggestions. She responded to e-mails quickly. She is very knowledgeable. She's a little slow on posting grades but not to big of a problem. She curves all assignments and the final grade. She answers questions in class. The class is difficult but you can pass with her help.
Prof. Miller is a very good professor if you pay attention in class and already have the prior knowledge that is recommended for the class If yo don't have the prior knowledge you might be confused until you go in and talk to her then it will all be clear When I took the class I had already had 2 years of chemistry so it was easy for me TALK TO HER
She is a very intelligent woman but expects her students to be just as in itelligent as she is. She rushes through the material telling you that it is your responsibility to learn it yourself and good luck trying to get help from her. I emailed her over forty times by mid semester asking for help and she replied to only one of my emails.
She is the worst teacher ever. Focuses more on technicalities rather than the chemistry itself. She gives you 8 minutes to complete 2 page quizzes along with online quizzes over material that has never been covered yet. Good luck on her 7 page exams that she gives you 45 minutes to complete because they are nothing like her examples...100x harder
I have never had a instructor make me so furious before in my life. Unhelpful, unresponsive unless you are one of her favorites. She is very smart but I think she finds humor in failing most of her students. That's why she got fired from UofI. Avoid her at all costs. It is that horrible. I took the class elsewhere and transferred it in. Good Luck
I hate this class because of this professor. This is the worst experience of my life. I really believe she finds humor in failing everyone. She is useless. No help at all. SIUe needs to fire her just like UofI. I would rather die a thousand deaths than ever relive this nightmare. AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS. SHE IS AWFUL!!!!
Fantastic professor. When you are done with the semester, you will retain information, provided you learned as you went. That is, she does not promote memorization and recitation. She forces you to learn the material. This is goo; this is education. Organic chem isn't easy, but one shouldn't blame a great professor due to one's own inability.
I had Dr. Miller for orgo at UofI. If you are having problems, GO INTO HER OFFICE HOURS. She is extremely nice & more than happy to help. You can't complain about not doing well if you aren't asking for help if you need it. She gives you all the information you need; the key is to keep practicing problems! If I can pull off an A, so can you!
Easily my favorite teacher since coming to this school. She is pretty hard but she really does want her students to learn. So if you are willing to work, she does her best to help you. She curves the grades and has homework that helps a lot. I definitely recommend her class!
great teacher! you can tell she loves to teach organic chem! her tests are meant to challenge even her best students, but if you study hard and go in to her office hours, you will probably do fine
Amazing teacher, has an awful reputation coming in. The material is hard and she does go in depth a lot, but I feel that when I take my MCAT I will be more than prepared for the organic chemistry section. If you want to learn this is your class. If your lazy then find someone else.
Dr. Miller has a bad rap, but she really isn't a bad professor. She wants to help the students as much as possible. If you struggle, go to office hours, that's what they're for! The lectures are also posted online, so even if you miss something, you can go back to relearn it! Yes, organic is hard, but Dr. Miller is VERY fair.
Hard class but she goes over everything in depth and always willing to help. People hate on her because they don't understand what's going on but 95% of the time they don't ask for help. Chemistry is not my strong point but I'm making an A. Great teacher just have to actually try in her class.
She is a wonderful person who does believe that she is trying to help her students. She is so intellilgent that she expects her students to all have the same base knowledge--this is a class for non-majors. Everyone in the class struggled. When asked, she was always eager to help but her lecture style was too fast with often times incorrect info!
Does not respond to emails AT ALL.
Dr. Miller is a great teacher. But, she lectures fast and her tests are pretty difficult. Shes a brilliant woman, and sometimes forgets that we dont know as much. Doing the homework and going to SI helps tremendously. Shes slow to return grades and emails, but overall I actually enjoyed her class, I thought she made it pretty interesting.
Dr. Miller is a great teacher. But, she lectures fast and her tests are pretty difficult. Shes a brilliant woman, and sometimes forgets that we dont know as much. Shes slow to return grades and emails, but overall I actually enjoyed her class, I thought she made it pretty interesting. Also, she curves tests and has a generous grading scale. (85=A)
I enjoyed Dr. Miller very much. She is very fluent in the language of organic chem and loves to teach it. Her tests are tough, but there is no reason you cannot get an A, just be ready to put in the time and effort. I would take her again no doubt.
This is the most depressing, and aggravating class I have ever taken. The material is extremely incomprehensible, and the online homework makes the class much more stressful. I'm a straight A student and I'm hoping that I'm lucky enough to receive a C in the course. Take Norcio if given the option.
Miller seems to be disliked by many people but she's really not that bad. For teaching a 120B class she is hard and she's not the best at putting up the grades on Blackboard but overall she's understanding, easy going, and she sincerely means well. I just think she's honestly too smart to be teaching a lower level class.
Dr. Miller is my favorite teacher this semester. She tries her hardest to give her students all the resources they need to succeed. I know people at other schools taking the same course and having a lot of trouble and I couldn't understand why until I realized I just have an amazing instructor who lectures the material wonderfully.
Out of the orgo teachers she is the most difficult, however she is also the best. She allows 1 test retake for the class. By the time you finish, you know what you are doing, Easy to talk to and ready to help. However she takes a LONG time to grade tests (usually 3 weeks)
Very good professor. In spite of the class being very difficult she made it clear and understandable. She puts a lot of effort into her students and if you talk to her outside of class she remembers you. Definately recommend her if you are interested in taking Organic Chem!
Dr. Miller was extremely helpful and went above and beyond to help her students succeed. Definitely recommended.
I took her for 120 A and she was wonderful, I passed that class with a B just by going to SI and spending some time outside of class. Now that I have her for 120 B I could just cry. She doesn't give a final and is not planning on curving at the end of the semester. She is super slow with getting grades back and always seems to be flustered. Not fun
I've taken organic chemistry twice before, and Dr. Miller IS the clearest and most dedicated professor I've had for the subject. I've emailed her 3 times, and she's responded in detail all three times. She records video modules of all of her notes on Blackboard. Review sheets, office hours, SI sessions. She takes a lot of time to help her students.
she was honestly a cool teacher. She talks pretty fast though.
I liked professor Miller. I ended up with a C in the class but I have never been good at Chemistry. Go to class and pay attention and GO TO OFFICE HOURS. She curves a lot at the end of the semester but don't count on it. Ask for help when you need it and you will be fine. I would take her again.
This class was not easy. Dr. Miller moved quickly during lecture but was very helpful during her office hours. She explained things clearly and spent as much time as you needed, until you understood it in her office hours. If you commit to studying well before the tests, go to class and ask questions if you don't understand, you will do fine.
Dr. Miller is exceptionally precise, engaging, knowledgable and fluent, and passionate towards her students. She speaks very quickly but every word is intentional/truly helpful. Exams are difficult, but she provides an extraordinary amount of support and one-on-one time if needed. With more than enough resources, final grade is entirely up to you.
She is helpful when she wants to be and other times not so good. If she does not want to do something there is a good chance she wont do it.
Her tests are rarely over the material she takes a long time covering in class. Avoid taking her classes but if you must take her, go to her office hours and the SI sessions. If it was for SI, there is no way I would pass this class.
Dr. Miller is a wonderful teacher. Organic Chemistry is a hard course all together but she does a GREAT job trying to explain evertything and really does try to help you learn the material. She tells you what will be on your test and helps prepare you for them If you have to take orgo, take it with her! You won't regret. DONT TAKE WITH PATRICK
She goes way too fast for anyone to be able to understand what's going on and tells you to email her when you need help with something and then never bothers to respond.
She is a decent teacher, but not for this class. She goes to fast and people are left in the dust. The bad thing is she expects you to know a lot already.
I am very glad I took her for this course. Her tests and quizzes are always direct reflections of the notes, and she provides clear information when she is lecturing. All you have to do is pay attention and ask for help when you need it, she's always helpful. This class is quite information loaded, so make sure you are constantly studying.
Seriously one of the best teachers at siue. She cares about her students and she is extremely down to earth. Organic is not easy but she does a very good job at explaining in class. The tests are not too bad if you study and do your homework. I would for sure take her over any other professor.
Very fast pace for such a difficult course. She gives unannounced quizzes but usually gives a heads up. The final is only half cumulative. Definitely requires time outside of class if you are wanting a decent grade in the class.
DONT TAKE HER! she moves fast, Takes months to get exams or quizzes back, (in fact i just finished her class and i didn't get 2 exams or 2 quizzes back) no extra credit. Plus if you have to take the next part of chem after this one she doesn't even teach it, so you might as well do the other professor. Run while you still can!!!!!
DO NOT TAKE HER!! She is way to smart to be teaching this course. She expects you to know it before you even show up and for someone who has not taken chem. all of high school I struggled. I got tutoring, went to SI, and seen her outside of class and nothing worked. Her tests are nothing like what she teaches!!
Dr. Miller is a nice person, and if you want help outside of class she's always there for you with a clear explanation and an understanding attitude. However, IN CLASS, she wasn't the best prof. This class contains mostly basic chemistry--easy stuff. But even still, Miller couldn't explain things clearly in lecture. Easy concepts were made hard.
Definitely need to attend the lectures. I would recommend reading the chapters on your own to get a better understanding. The class is tough, but if you attend the class, pay attention, and study then you will be fine. Don't expect to get your examsquizzes back because it usually takes several weeks for her to grade and hand back.
Lynne is such a kind soul. She will help you with any problems you would have. My friends call her the chemistry mom. Her class is tough if you've never taken chemistry before. Find people who have and ask for help. Pay attention. Don't listen to people who hate her, they're stupid. Go to class. Do the homework. It's easy if you make it easy.
She explains everything a little weirdly. It can be confusing if you have never taken Chem before. So much homework! Expect to spend hours on it! She takes FOREVER to hand back tests and quizzes!! Weeks! If you do homework, don't need the lecture. But lecture might be needed for the homework. So... It's up to you. Would take again... Maybe...
DO NOT TAKE HER ONLINE CLASS! She posts videos that barely explain anything, and when you ask her question via email she doesn't respond. Also, she has online office hours that she always cancels or doesn't show up to. Her tests are about 100x more difficult than the homework she assigns. I had a 4.0 and I'm in danger of not passing this class.
Terrible instructor. She shows up to class late and does not return scantron tests for at least a month after the test itself. Her notes are usually messed up and barely help. She relies on other people to teach her class. Norcio is easier to understand and gives out helpful worksheets instead of pop quizzes. Take Norcio! I wish I had.
I absolutely loved Dr. Miller! I had heard people call her the chemistry mom and I can definitely understand why. She is such a nice, caring person, and she is so funny! She was always there to help when needed. She gives pop quizzes, but usually hints at them ahead of time. Show up to class, pay attention, study for your tests, and you'll be fine!
Miller was clear about the topics. She wanted you to do well and was willing to help with anything. Very motherly. My grade only suffered because I didn't go to the SI sessions which I heard were very helpful.
This was a hard class, but Dr. Miller would help if you asked her. She went above and beyond for us if you made the effort to go talk to her. She did everything in her power to get us to pass and understand the information. If I had more chem classes left that she taught, I would take her again in a heartbeat.
She's really funny and nice, very willing to help. The class is tough and I HIGHLY recommend taking her for CHEM 120
She's nice, and very smart, but it's almost as if she's too smart to be teaching this class. Tests are horrible: there is a LOT of long homework, which would be helpful if the tests were actually over the type of things the homework covered, but the tests are five times harder. Homework and worksheets don't prepare you for the caliber of test ?'s.
Miller is one of the toughest professors I've taken so far. But she cares about her students' learning the material. She demands that you fully understand the concepts behind the mechanisms. If you are planning on going to a graduate school, then this is your best choice as you will have no problem excelling in the Orgo section of the test.
Dr. Miller is a very good teacher. Her online lectures were thorough and encompassed all of the material that was on the tests. That being said, to really succeed in her class reading the book is a must. Her tests require a very thorough understanding of the course material. Scheduling an appointment during office hours will also boost your grade.
I wasn't a huge fan of the way her notes are set up, but she posts videos online so that you can rewatch. The homework isn't a great representation of the tests. The tests tend to be long, and you must really understand the chemistry. She is extremely helpful 1 on 1. Class requires a lot of effort, but an A is possible.
She was overall a great teacher for a brutal subject.
If you are thinking for about taking this online during the summer TURN BACK NOW!! The test are not similar to mastering chemistry or problems in the test book. The test are very difficult. Forget about emailing her if your are having trouble, she'll never answer you. She does offer online tutring but she fails to show half the time.
Dr. Miller is absolutely AMAZING!!! Organic chemistry is very difficult and she makes it so much better. I was terrified coming into this class and I am so grateful to have a professor like her. She truly cares about her students and is so nice and supportive in her office hours. She always says "its me and you against organic chemistry."
Dr. Miller is one of the best chemistry teachers at this school. She has a very difficult class but she teaches you organic chemistry that prepares you for the real world and not siue's normal substandard education. Difficult tests , freebe pop quizzes.
Don't be fooled by the level of difficulty Dr. Miller received. She's by far one of the most kind hearted professors out there. She pushes her students more than any teacher I've ever met. She prepares you for standardized tests and prepares you for the real world. She's not easy by any means so you'll have to study, but that all comes with organic
Miller is a very thoughtful professor. The only thing I didn't like about her is how long it took to get things graded. There was a grading correction needed on the 1st test, and it wasn't done until the end of the semester. Her lectures are interesting enough and she wants her students to pass.
Dr. Miller is amazing. Chem is hard but this half is the inorganic portion. Her lectures have everything you would need to know. I had to go to tutoring on a few things, but she is open to helping you and meeting with you to work out Mastering problems and any information you may need explained. She is motivational and is worth getting to know.
Dr. Miller has got to be one of the best professors at SIUE. She cares so much for her students and really wants everyone to understand the material rather than memorize it. She is very open and friendly and willing to help as long as you take the time to go to her.
Her class is tough and the pop quizzes really messed up my grade (though that's my fault). That being said, Dr. Miller is awesome. She is extremely good at explaining difficult scientific concepts clearly. I had some issues with anxiety that resulted in me missing a test and she was incredibly understanding and sweet about the issue.
Miller is infamous among organic professors at SIU for her difficult tests and the massive amount of material covered in her lectures. But what really sets her apart is her ability to communicate to her students, and making this monster of a subject seem not nearly as scary as it looks. She always asks how each student did after the exam; so nice.
Dr. Miller is the BEST professor I've ever had. The only people that don't like her are kids that don't want to work for anything (not the people we want as doctors anyway) Go to class, go to SI, ask questions. Go to her office hours, build a relationship with her & she will do ANYTHING to help you. If you put in the effort she will too. LOVE HER!
I have no idea why I gave this professor four stars instead of five; she really is one of the best I've ever had. Orgo's a crazy tough class, and it needs a professor that's willing and able to connect with students to be taught well. Miller does this and so much more. Probably one of the most caring professors at SIUE. Super excited for 241b!
Dr. Miller really cares about her students and wants them to understand the material. The homework is SO important and helpful for boosting your grade and understanding the material. 3 of the 6 "pop quizzes" that she warns you ahead of time about are just participation. She gives test retakes that bump the average test grade by 20% or more.
Miller really cares about her students and wants them to understand the material and pass the class. Sometimes she is a little confusing with explaining material. She is a really sweet and funny woman.
Dr. Miller gave everything you needed for tests in lectures and homework materials. Her tests were very difficult, but also fair. If you know the material she gives you, it will be fine. She gives many chances to make up points as well. Her lectures are very passionate and enjoyable to attend. You must do your homework and study in order to pass.
This teacher was all over the place. The tests had nothing to do with what we did in class and she was not organized at all. I would not recommend her as a teacher. I am a very good student and try in all classes so I feel like this class was not fair.
Dr. Miller is an excellent teacher. She gives you everything you need to succeed in her class, but you have to put the work in yourself. If you study and do the homework and all the practice problems then her scary tests aren't too bad. Also, she is very clear at explaining the subject. She knows her stuff very well and it shows.
Dr. Miller is probably one of the best science teachers at SIUE. Yes her tests are challenging but she really does give you so many tools to succeed. You will actually understand organic chemistry once you have completed her class. Her online lectures are AMAZING. WATCH EVERY VIDEO. She is very approachable and will explain answers clearly
Dr. Miller is the excellent professor in the chemistry department. She made the organic chemistry easy by explaning it very clearly. Her quizzes and exams are not at all surprising and it is only over the stuff that she goes over. She is a thoughtful person and a motivating professor.
Miller is one of the best professors Ive ever had. She knows a lot about chemistry and you can tell that in her lectures. She explained difficult material very well. Most of her quizzes were participation and are good grade boosters. Also, her exams were straightforward. Go to SI, watch her video modules, and put in the work and youll do fine.
Dr Miller is a great teacher who truly cares for her students. Organic is hard as it is, but Dr Miller gives you all the tools to succeed. If you don't pass, it's your fault because theres over 50 hours of available tutoring, Dr. Miller has office hours, SI sessions, and a ton of extra points. Shes great.
One of the best professors I've had at siue! Orgo is a hard class, but she really wants her students to understand and do well! She has 6 "pop" quizzes, but she will warn you about them and 5/6 were completion grades! She gave us a ton of points back throughout the semester on tests, but she makes you work for them! very long homework assignments
Loved this professor! Her exams are tough, but very manageable if you study the material she goes over in class. Understand the material, don't memorize it. She's also very helpful in office hours and provides lots of opportunities to help your grade if you don't do well on an exam. If you put in the work, you'll do just fine!
Dr. Miller is an exceptional professor and is always willing to help out. From my own experience, I could have procrastinated less, read the textbook more, and listened to every video module, but since I have Miller for the second course of Organic, I thank God that I now know what to do. Try not to miss class and stay in her office.
Dr. Miller is absolutely indescribable! I think of her as a second mom, cause she is so nurturing and motherly. Her teaching is very advanced, and her tests are difficult not because of the types of questions, but because of the amount of content that is asked. However, she will go out of her way to help you, and we need someone like her here.
She is super nice and can tell she cares about her students. She is always available and gives so many resources. It is a hard class so if you do what she says you need to and work for it, it pays off. The book is essentially helpful but her tests are super hard so know material very well!
Wonderful person and teacher. Makes organic chemistry as easy as she can. She gives you all the necessary resources and tools to succeed. Tests are very straightforward and follow her lecture. "Pop" quizzes that are mainly participation. Try to get 100% on the homework because it can average out a C test grade to a B! Curves the final grade a ton.
Dr. Miller was THE single best teacher I have ever had. She truly cares about her students and wants them all to succeed. She is always available outside of class for help and makes organic chemistry as easy to understand as possible. Her tests are hard, simply because of the subject. She does everything she can to make sure students succeed.
Great teacher. Will gladly answer your questions. The content is hard and very conceptual, but she will go above and beyond to help you learn the material. She's also very personable and loves talking with students. Lots of homework, but it's super helpful when learning the material and sometimes she likes to throw those problems on tests.
It's not so much a rip on Miller as it is to say that Orgo SUCKS. It is the most difficult class I have taken by far. Miller tries her hardest to be nice, help outside of class, and give you the tools to succeed, but at the end of the day it's still Orgo. If you struggle there are resources, but be prepared to work your ass off
I'll be honest with you, it's a hard class, however, Miller is possibly the best professor I've ever had in college. She is willing to explain anything to you in as slow of a pace as possible if you do all the work she gives you the class is a cakewalk. Just make sure you're prepared for the exams and you'll be fine. Getting A's is very possible.
I had Dr. Miller for CHEM 241A and B. By far the best professor I've had at SIUE! She is by no means an easy professor but she does a very good job of explaining the material in her lectures and if you still don't understand she is very accessible outside of class. She genuinely cares about her students and sets you up for success!
She's a really great professor that truely wants you to succeed in this difficult class. As long as you put in the work outside of class and use the practice she gives you the class is very manageable. She's always available to talk and help you even though there's 200 people in the class you just have to reach out.
I was nervous about taking an online chemistry lab, but Dr. Miller knocked it out of the park. I learned more from her labs than I do in an in person lab setting. You could tell she genuinely wants her students to succeed. I cannot say enough good things!
I never expected an online chem lab to be this great. You can tell that she really cares about her students. She clearly explains all the labs in the beginning of each week, always gives us a long time to do them, and always gives us 3 attempts for each lab. Make sure to record your answers so you have them for other attempts.
The online lab portion was fairly easy. Dr. Miller was understanding when it came to deadlines, and always gave us plenty of time to do the online lab. She also tried to involve us as much as possible with the videos she chose, so we would learn something. Overall, she is a really good professor.
I created an account on here just to say what an amazing teacher Dr. Miller was. She handled the online switch great, and unlike most of my online classes, I felt like I left Chem 241a with much more knowledge than before. She gives a lot of extra work for practice and her feedback during office hours is outstanding. She is super caring as well!
Overall, good professor. Grading isn't on the top of her to-do list. A little behind on posting lectures. Very good with one-on-one questions in office hours. Very knowledgable. Her online lectures do drag sometimes. Personally, I thought the material was the hardest I have had in college so far.
Explains difficult topics super well and is super responsive to questions
I loved Miller! I had her asynchronous and we just had labs due every week given Sunday, due Friday. Very straightforward and she gives you all the material you need. You have to really read into it but she allows you to take up to 3 times. Super helpful with any and all questions too!!
If you have this course with her, you can take a sigh of relief. She gives you 3 attempts to complete your lab report and is very descriptive in her expectations.
Dr. Miller is the reason I really understood Chem 120A! She is a fantastic teacher and really knows how to teach you the material. She is available outside of class very easily. Also, she makes the exams in your favor and wants you to succeed. I would definitely take another class with her. She is amazing!
Dr. Miller is easily one of the best professors at SIUE. Unlike most professors here, she actually cares about her students. Her class is a lot of work, and if you want an A in organic Chemistry you're gonna have to work a lot outside class. However, her exams are fair and prepare you for the MCAT well. Not taking CHEM241A with Miller is a mistake.
Dr. Miller was an absolute angel. I had her in the fall of 2021 all online. She gave clear instructions of what was expected of the students at the beginning of the week and always sent out reminders. I have only ever heard good things about Dr. Miller
Dr. Miller is one of the best professors I have taken. She is available outside of class and will explain something to you again and again until you understand. If you put the work in for this class, you will be successful. She prepares you well for the exams and gives you plenty of homework for practice problems.
Lynn is an amazing professor. I took her course over winter break in 19 days and received a B. She was responsive to emails and understanding and lenient. She did a great job presenting materials
Made sure students knew what was going on in class before she moved on, and was very helpful if people had questions.
Don't let them mislead you! I started this class w/ Miller & switched back to De Meo weeks into the semester. Miller covers material way too fast! 3 HW a week (2 hours+ each) and 3 WS. Her exams are tough & I felt so overwhelmed & burnt out by the amount of info that nothing was sticking! She is very nice, but just trust me when I say TAKE DE MEO!
Forget just being the best professor at this school, Dr. Miller is the best PERSON I have ever met. She is caring, kind, understanding, and doesn't judge. She's super helpful and dedicates so much to her students success. She's much more then just a chemistry professor, I will be taking any chance to be in a class taught by her.
For the most part I enjoyed Professor Miller's class. Very enthusiastic about what she does and makes the best out of the material given. Grading scale is generous with >85% being an A, and chances to earn back lost points are given. Exams, while not extremely difficult, do require you to thoroughly know the material. Overall, a pleasant semester.
Dr. Miller is the best professor I have had so far. She genuinely cares about her students and their success. She knows students' names, and our class fills a lecture hall. She explains concepts clearly. I'm currently taking Organic 2 with her and am having trouble, she went out of her way to find a good tutor for me that was in her class before.
Dr. Miller is the BEST professor at SIUE! She super passionate about chemistry and helping students. Dr. Miller is insanely organized, very accessible outside of class, and eager to help you understand the material. I loved organic chemistry, and I'm excited for all of her future students who get to spend their next year with her!
This is a fun class but she doesn't know show up and has TAs teaching the class. TAs also do not speak good English, but gets back to you immediately and grades fast! You also get multiple retakes on prequizes
Try to stay away if you can! I dreaded her class every week. Her TA's were nearly impossible to understand in class. Dr. Miller never actually attends lab, so you will only be with the TA's. She doesn't accept late work, even if it is a problem with BlackBoard and not something you did.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. TRY TO FIND A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR.
Dr. Miller is a kind, but strict professor. Always attend labs and keep up with pre-lab assignments because she does not accept late submittals. The TA's were friendly but I sometimes struggled to understand their answers to questions I had. The labs are mostly completion. Show up, get the data you need, and go.
Knew what she was talking about. Her workshop hours are great for getting help on troubling material. Lots of lengthy homework but you'd only miss very little points after three wrong answers. Lots of extra credit. Tough grader ("all-or-nothing" type). Answered all questions with respect. Allowed multiple exam materials to provide help on tests.
The class is mainly run by TAs who often lack a genuine understanding of the material and can be hard to understand. They are not very helpful and can come across as condescending. Grading feedback is minimal, with wrong answers marked only with a red line and no explanation. However, the class itself is relatively easy.
Do NOT recommend
You won't see her much during lab, just the TA. Ask tons of questions, cause some of the TA's will help a lot. I happened to talk with Prof. Miller after I was the last in class finalizing my lab. She was kind, stern, and advised me to go as far in nursing as I could because it's worth it. I will take her again if possible despite her strictness.
Labs take forever, and she is never really there, and you have to print out pre-labs yourself.
Dr. Miller is the BEST professor I've had for any science class I've taken. She's very systematic and incredibly helpful. While the material is difficult, if you find yourself falling behind, she doesn't seem to mind one bit to help you get caught up. She really enjoys what she does and it makes a huge difference.
I actually do not have her, but I wish I would have taken o-chem with her! I attend her office hours and she is amazing and nonjudgmental - better than any other professor I've ever had! Truly a diamond in the rough compared to a certain genetics professor.
professor only in charge of putting out material, not being present for lab. she's very friendly but expects students to know things they have not yet learned in class. if you do all the readings and watch the videos before lab you should do okay.
Most of your labs will be with your TA only but when you do see her she is super nice and knowledgeable. Group work makes it easier to understand and fill in gaps as well. Not too bad.
Dr. Miller is an incredible professor, she teaches material super well, and this is from her organic chemistry course, i imagine her other easier courses are so much better. She's super accessible outside of her class and REALLY cares and will do anything to help you. I'm almost debating to switch over to chemistry from bio cause of her.
Chem Lab was a great experience overall. Dr. Miller oversees the course, but most of your time is with your TA. My TA, Philip, was funny, kind, and made lab enjoyable. Labs can be long, especially later in the day, but attendance is mandatory and worth it. Having good lab partners makes a big difference, and mine were great.I had a positive time
