Tons of homework. Doesn't really teach, just tells you what to do.
She explains a lot but she gives you way too much homework and stupid busy work
Drives you harder than what an EN 100 class should be, but it helps in the long run, she is very organized dont expect to turn things in late
The best english teacher I have ever had...she asks for a lot, but she taught me more than any other english teacher. I definitley recommend her!!!!!!
had LONG breaks then ran late every class. she was never in the room! very unorganized, had to go to her office 2 or even 3 times a night.
Had a test once a week, there were at least 50 questions on each test. It would be nearly impossible to remember all those things for more than the week you study.
The hands down worst teacher that I've ever had. She was unclear and rude...And this is comming from someone who recieved a B in her class!

Burris is anal and picky about everything... Tons of work, often times 3 assignments going at once. All class periods spent peer editing or responding to other classmates. Very little instruction, only the last few minutes of class! AWFUL!
A teacher that has a lot of time and work to give you. An need someone to hit that from the back so she won't give that much work!
she has got to be the hardest prof i have/ ever will have in my college carrer. she is unclear and has the worst sense of humor i have ever seen...she gives too many assignments at one time and to top it all off, my syllabus is 46 pages long...
She was very nice, it was a lot of work, but she was willing to help if you asked. She knows her stuff and taught a lot that will be extremely useful, and it was fun!

When i first signed up for this class i was told to drop it. Well I stuck with and I am glad I have learned more about english then I ever have. She gives a lot of work but if you have any questions she had no problem answering them, even on her own time.
She expexted a lot out of you. If you keep up on your work you will be ok, but if not RUN! You will have many papers going at once, no class time to work on them. A lot of peer responding for no credit.
This woman is insane. I hated the class. She teaches at a third grade level. The class is so boring, I did not learn one thing. She looks more for format, than if you actually have skills in English. Don't waste your money be taking her class.

If you like working all night/every night for one English class then congratulations because you got the right teacher! Plan on doing lots of homework at night, and spending class time to peer respond others paper. WORTHLESS/TIME CONSUMING CLASS!! RUN
this woman is soooooo unfair. the workload sucks. the class would be decent if she did not have all the papers going on at the same time like she does. i would not take this class with her at all cost.
I had the most problem with not knowing if i was doing assignments right. We had assignments that helped prepare us for he papers we had due, yet we didnt get any feed back. I would say the class is not too difficult if you do not fall behind, and dont slack off.
all you do is write...she is helpful...but you write essay after essay...i woulnt pick her again...she grades pretty hard too...she doesnt accept any late work....and you can only miss like one day...with a good excuse
I have her and I truly believe that she is a wonderful teacher.She lets yuo know of everything up front with no hidden agenda and lets you know if you don't like it drop her.The class is a lot of work but definately a good one to take if not a good writer.I had her while in High school and loved it.

This class is so damn hard. It's the hardest class i have taken all my life and she has no kind of heart as cold blooded as they come. oh and the papers all long, dont believe me by the end of the class i had typed at least 70 pages. At least!
She can be nice if you talk about non EN topics with her. But once you ask something about her class, her whole face and attitude changes and she isn't as approachable. The work load was out of control she grades really hard and there was way to much peer editing. All in all, i was happy to get a C+ in that class
this class is crazy and I dont reccomend taking it with her. she assigns multiple papers that overlap one another. her course syllabus is something like 50 pages. Whatever you do..find a better teacher if you need EN 100
She is a very nice teacher who is always willing to give extra help. In this class, you will be doing 3 major assignments that overlap. You will do nothing but homework every night. The final exam is to act out a 1 hour play on the last day. You will have to be in costume in front of all of your classmates. She is very nice, but projects r insane.

Wow! This class was Hell!!! I consider myself to be a good student who tries hard and I felt like she made this class impossible to succeed in. My class started out with 26 students and by the end there were only eight still attending! Think twice before taking this class with burris.

Ms. B is very demanding with all of her assignments. All of the work she gives you is do-able but lengthy so be prepared to do a lot of writing (some are meaningless). On the bright side Ms. B is very down to earth and is good for laugh or two.

We'll just put it this way, the last paper assignment that was due..(I-Search Paper). I did ALL the work that was needed but I didnt record it to a tape, she gave me an E on the entire paper. I had an A in the class, and I ended up with a C. THANKS!
She's pretty strict about classroom conduct, being late, etc. If you don't like LOTS of writing, this may not be the class for you. Prepare to use your printer until the ink runs out too. It was tough, but I think it's good to have a pressure to preform well.
this is a nice lady in person and will fail you no matter how much work you've done. she isn't sensitive to the working class when creating assignments/homework. do not take this class unless you don't mind being set up to fail. oh she is not sentive to any race. she'll fail you if you are black,white, yellow, pink, or green. i use to love writing!
If you stuggle with typing good papers, dont take this class with her as a teacher.
She's very specific in what she wants done. I was under too much pressure, so i dropped it. There is alot of writing/typing so if your taking this class, be VERY prepared for it.
Take her class if you want your papers being graded on how well you follow useless directions (putting certain parts of paragraphs in bold) instead of the quality of papers. Also, when she critiqued my paper before my final draft, she said I had almost no mistakes. I corrected the ones she pointed out and somehow ended up with a D-. She sucks.
only take this class, w/ this teacher, if you want to SPEND all of your well earned money on ink and paper. on one of the assignments, i used over 200 pages of paper. it is so useless.
Hard class, you will need a lot of spare time for all the work.. that means if you have a child and or a job, this is not really the teacher for you.. there were pages and pages of directions and instructions.. extremely demanding class/teacher.. i do not recommend her what-so-ever!

I feel that this teacher was a good teacher for my son. He's been in special ed most of his school years and he's never had this type of English taught to him. He learned alot from Ms. Burris. Yes, she's an extremeley hard teacher, wastes alot of papers, but I felt she did fair towards my son. Yes, he had no free time for anything.
Teachers like this will make you want to drop out. Belittles students in from of the whole class. Incredible amount of homework. No matter how good your work is, its never good enough.
she is a good teacher when it comes to the I-Search paper because she leads you into the next step of it not like most of the other teachers would do. i just had her as a teacher and i got a c+ in the class she gives out alot of work and i know with the i-search paper i had got a c- on it i thought i would get a better grade but i didnt she teahces you for the university but i think she grades a little bit hard but she is a nice and down to earth person but i learned from the class!!!!!
Teaching style was to assigning 30 or more papers that you will receive any feed back on from the prof. about. she has students peer edit all papers witch is not helpful because no one cares & they are in an 097 level class for a resin. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE! She acts like you have not other classes when it comes to assigning work. WASTE OF PAPER!!
Terrible teacher! Waste of time, money & loads paper! Going to this woman's class made my whole day crap. Don't take any class by her. If your not an older black woman don't expect any favors when it comes to turning things in late.
She is a very ignorant person/instructor, gives way 2 much work, things learned are very valuable but she over does it. I wouldn't recommend any one with a life other then going to her class to take her as a teacher, she thinks that the world revolves around her class room. Very strict, doesn't do a lot of teaching. i thought she was a good teacher yes she is hard and there is alot of paper u have to print and alot alot of work but if u do the work and come to class everyday then u will be fine, if u have kids or other obligations then maybe pick somebody else, demands alot of work out of students but grades fairly, and tells u exactly what u have to do and if
Hardest professor I have ever had. Will not accept late work. Peers edit your papers. Is not reasonable when discussing your grades if you think you deserve better. I would recommend EN 101 instead of EN 100. Very bad professor.

Awesome instructor. She is hard and expects a lot out of you. But if you listen and ask questions, you will have no problem. Do your work and do it right and you will pass!!
She was very hard as an instructor, assignments were large and time consuming. I wouldn't recommend her as an instructor. She might just be mentally insane.
she is very hard if you are not organized also strict and wants things a certain way but i learned a lot and she is funny. do the journals!! there are many but they are super easy!! i would def take her again! she is helpful and very clear with what she wants. if your not lazy and check blackboard you should do fine
Ms. B is very specific about what she expects in her class.Her Syllabus is 54 pages long and everything in there is applied in her class.There is never a day that you don't have HW.If you have a full schedule i wouldnt recommend her class, most of your assignments are essays and journals. but like 3-5 a night.
Absolutely Terrible professor.
Please do not take her class I'm a veys smart student and she do not help with anything her students grade her papaers. She has a binder with you work and you have to figure out what you grade is for the class.
She is very strict with what she wants and she will be difficult if you are not organized. Lots of homework and papers, don't take her class if you're busy. Really easy.

Ms. Burris is a College Professor. Many of the comments by other student feel she is to tuff on them. She gives a lengthy syllabus that spells out everything. She may not always explain everything in full length but you were given an arm to ask questions. She treated every member of the class with the respect they deserved, loved every class.
Mrs. B was awesome, but I am also able to follow detailed instructions. If you can not follow her strict guidelines then you will not do well. Ask questions. Expect to be treated as an adult because she will not pamper you. EN097 is more about following the format than how well you can write. I got an A in her class and I am a terrible writer.

She was a really hard grader. Very confusing directions, uses unnecessary materials like 8 different highlighting colors and post it notes. You have to have a white binder. Overall I did not like her way of teaching.
First year in college and so far shes the worst professor ive had! Shes so unorganized and doesn't explain things at all! She also is very sarcastic when responding back to questions. Multiple times shes tried to accuse me of not turning in assignments even after she would send them back to me corrected. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND AVOIDING TAKING HER CLASS
She does not grade throughout the semester which is hard for you to know if your doing well or not. She is condescending in her videos and very sarcastic when you email her a question. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! WORST TEACHER EVER.
As a student in a basic English class. I would not want to take her class. She is insane to be prepared for no grades till the end of the semester. Also, you have to read over 70 pages of instruction for one 5-paragraph essay. She grades based on following the directions and not the content you have learned.
I understand that this is a college level course, but I had more homework due in one day than I did in one week for all of my other classes combined. She does not grade assignments in a timely manner, so you won't ever know your full grade until the end. Her assignments are unnecessarily tedious and repetitive. Don't take her class.
If you have a lot of time on your hands this class is for you. Deadlines are very important if you miss it, its a zero. She does not accept missing or late work. Instructions for assignments and essays are way too long and more complicated than needed.

I took this class for ARW 100. I enjoyed the class, professor B is very blunt about things and will most def give feedback on anything she is helpful only if you ask her. she does give out lots of HW most of it is going to be about articles you'll have to annotate them. HW is due the next class time and she does not accept late work what so ever.
