he's great, and he's fun. my favorite professor

The class is easy, he gives u his lectures to dl online and they are all powerpoint, but he is sooooooooo booooriing, he puts me to sleep very well. Take hartshorn if u can, i wish i had, but this class was still easy, i just wont remember anything hes said.

hes a really cool person and I have a lot of respect for him. he is understanding and patient with his students and he doesn't try to trick you...just GO TO CLASS. cuz i didnt but i still have an A. theres an extra credit paper, if you get an A on it you most likely boost ur grade like 2 grades. ex: if u had a D you'll get a B. He's not boring!!

He is a great teacher, and a really nice guy. His lectures (power point) are interesting and are posted online, so notes aren't mandatory.

Wonderful teacher!! Very funny and very interesting. He brings his own perosnal experiences into the classroom, this not only brings material into focus, but also makes you realize that he knows what he is talking about. I would take this teacher again in a heartbeat. BTW, this is the only teacher I have ever had who always responded to emails

He's a wonderful professor. The clickers were really fun this past semester. Take him as your professor!

OH MY GOD!! He was by far the best teacher I have ever had. Not only was he funny he was interesting and super nice. He helped me write my application essay at the end of the semester. He will help you if you ask (with anything). Take good notes and do the extra credit and you will be good!! Best teacher of my life!!! Be ready to laugh a lot!! = )

Dr. Mark is an awesome professor. He is very friendly and kind. He is always there to help you whether it be via e-mail or office hours. His lecture notes and book do come in handy. You will have fun and learn in his class.

Mr. Akiyama is pretty much awesome! His tests are easy because he goe sover everything that will be on the test, if you just review some concepts that he teaches, then you'll most likely get an A. He's also VERY helpful!!

All lectures are pwrpoint, can get rather boring. Not the most inspiring class... But with minimal studying you can pass with an A+! Tests are all T/F, multi-choice. Funny, cheerful teacher. Take Akiyama if you just need psych for GE.

Awesome teacher I recommend him especially if your a psych major. Everything on the test is covered in depth in power point and as long as you review your notes you'll do just fine on all tests. As long as you apply yourself, its a guranteed A

All psych teachers have the best personalities and Mark is no exception.His class was easy and mostly powerpoints.Research methods had you do weekly questions online.3 research papers and 1 group project.Showing up is not needed.Good guy, nice class.

Excellent instructor and one of the nicest people I've ever met. Lectures are always interesting. Instructor definately understands a students perspective of learning and exams are straight forward. Instructor also offers opportunities for extra credit. Take good notes and apply yourself and an A should be no problem.

Great teacher, very helpful. Offers extra credit, has little homeword. Study guides for exams, final is not comprehensive. I missed 3 homeworks and still got a B with the extra credit. Great guy! Would recommend!

Prof. Akiyama is thee best pscyh teacher ever! His class is so easy! There are only 3 papers and 1 test, and he practically does practically everything for you. He's the reason I chose to major in psych. This is an easy A, but I gaurantee you, you'll get more out of it than just a good grade!

Akiyama is really easy. His lectures are straightforward and he posts them on WebCT. I never used the textbook though and it was EXPENSIVE. He gives you everything for the test (1 test) and the papers (3 papers). If yo want an A, you should go to him and talk with him and he will definitely help you get an A.

I am taking his online class and it is really fun and interesting. He makes interesting assignments and is helpful and upbeat.

The only thing that keeps my rating from being easy is that he can grade papers pretty hard. However he's more than willing to help and work with you if you don't do as well as you'd hoped. He's very down to earth and insightful. I'm only sorry I can't take more classes with him.

I LOVE HIM. He is the BEST psych teacher at DVC. He makes the class fun and comfortable. No hw, 5 exams and the final IS NOT cumulative. Awesome Awesome teacher. TAKE HIM!!!

I took his summer class. It is very easy. It's only 3 weeks. at the end of each week is a quiz. there is so much extra credit and the homework is easy so even if you get a bad grade on a quiz those extra points will still make you fine. very interesting and worth it

I took this class online, during summer. It was only 3 weeks long and went by quick! He was super helpful and answered any questions quickly. The hw assignments and tests were based on his Power Point lectures and the readings, so as long as you review that, you should do really well

This guy's the coolest and very chill. He is very engaging, the powerpoint slides are very informative and he keeps your interest. And if you do all the extra credit, your grade can go up to two letter grades!:) He made the subject fascinating and this has been my fav Psych class yet! TAKE HIM. But beware of his laugh...you'll see.

Interesting lectures and class. The entire grade was based on 5 exams plus participation points. He gives thorough study guides for each test. If you take good notes and study off the study guides, you won't even need the book. He also gives plenty of extra credit opportunities.

Psyh220 - Online - Personality Psychology. Wonderful and easy to navigate online class and instructions. Clear syllabus. Great communications on WebCT email system. Extreme amounts of Extra Credit opportunities!!! Highly recommend this class.

Awesome Professor. I have never had a professor who is so engaging and so effective at commanding the rapt attention of his students. He explains the material in several different ways so that every student can understand and digest it fully. Five tests, one extra credit paper, and tons of little extra credit assignments! A true gem!

Dr. Mark is a very helpful teacher. I took this class online and everything we needed to do was clearly described in the syllabus. I never even needed to ask a question. When students did ask however, he was very enthusiastic, helpful and thorough. He is a good teacher. You do need to study but he gives lots of extra credit opportunity as well

He's a very nice and interesting professor. He's always ready to help anyone who needs it,& I found he did a good job going over all the psych basics in the Intro class I took with him. He's got some funny stories too! His tests were super easy & I honestly never even read the book, I just showed up to class so you might be able to save your money

So far he's the best instructor I've ever had at DVC. His lecture is clear and structured and he gave us additional point from iClicker response; so you better attend his class. Exams are easy. No mandatory homework

He is an amazing teacher! You would think a research class would be boring and hard but he tried his best to make interesting. There are just 3 research essays, excel quiz, and a simple presentation of your final group project.

He is the best professor in DVC! I took his class online, just review 15mins before every quizzes, he has a clear lecture for student to study, and also has quiz review before every quizzes. TAKE HIM! he is a 100 percent A professor if you do review.

I took the class online and it was a great and easy class. His syllabus is very clear on what you have to do for the class (I rarely contacted him for questions). The class based on PowerPoint lectures and the textbook.Be sure to read and study those well to get good grades on the tests. I suggest you do the EC because it will help your grade.

Very helpful teacher! Easy A. No final, tons of Extra Credit, Multiple choice exams that are ALL from the slide shows, didn't open my book once and got an A. While it was easy, I learned alot from his teaching style. Very effective and open teacher!

Good class to take if you're a psych major (or if it interests you). Very straightforward class, not difficult if you put in any effort, and the teacher is good about communicating. Textbook(s) is expensive, but they are needed for class assignments.

Mark is the most laid-back professor I've ever had. His lectures are easy to follow and he makes it very interesting. The exams are straight-forward, and if you do all the extra credits, which are easy also, an A is very possible. Don't buy the book, since almost everything is in the lecture and powerpoints

Great teacher. He really connects well with his students. He's like one of your pals, and he's real about anything you want to ask him about. He'll inform you about many things, and his lectures are interesting to listen to. Gives 7 EC assignments that are worth almost 2(!) grade points. I only did 1s worth, and I got an A. Textbook NOT needed.

I took the Online class and it was GREAT!! Probably the BEST online class so far!! Dr. Mark (how he calls himself) is super sweet and caring. He's a really dedicated professor! He's open to any questions, very helpful and very approachable. HE IS AWESOME!!! I would take his class again if I could! :)

Online course - note, due to D2L, the publisher is working with instructors to get you to buy access to their "special site". YOU DONT NEED IT! Get the book in print/online format and skip the expensive online package! Only issue with the class is the D2L system was screwy and it made navigating the class more difficult. The quizzes are med-hard.

Super easy class. I took psych 101 online with him as well as 220. You submit a half page response to a video or answer questions from the book, and take one quiz every week. Quizzes are easy if you actually read the chapter. Easy A. He's really lenient as well and always responds to emails.

Honestly, I got the grade. I did the work. I tried but I felt like my efforts were wasted because the teacher straight up gave 100% on all the assignments. He commented the same way on everything and yeah it's awesome getting an A, duh but what happened to real education? So I'm going away slightly dissapointed.

This class was pretty easy. There were weekly movie assignments and quizzes but that was about it. He seems to be available if help is needed and seems to actually care about his students passing. Also, he was super clear about everything!

His class is very easy. Exams are multiple choices only and for homework you only need to choose 2 theories from the assigned chapters and write a paragraph about your personal experience for each theory. There are also tons of extra credit. Lectures are very interesting and he explains thing really clearly. He is funny too!

Akiyama is the best. His tests are 50 multiple choice, and I passed all of his tests with an "A" without even buying the book. He drops your lowest test grade, and if you are still struggling, there are a lot of extra credit opportunities. Take his class if you have the chance. He is really funny and I promise that you will not be bored.

This was by far the easiest class i ever took online EASY, 8 quizzes 25 points each for total 175 points 157-175 is an A lowest quiz score is dropped, and extra credit films you just write summaries all together worth 24 points i think so it is an easy class if you take it online you should be GOLDEN for an A

Hilarious guy. Easy A. Don't try cheating on tests he will catch you and it pisses him off. tests are easy. Gives out a lot of extra credit. only 5 tests, lowest score is dropped. Explains everything clearly. emails you back fast. DONT BUY THE BOOK! you dont use it. tests are based off slideshows. gives study sheet for each test.

He's really helpful and he's there to answer your questions as soon as possible. He grades homework very leniently (I mean, you'll get a 100% no matter how many questions you got wrong). Quizzes were easy if you read the textbook.

This class was great. There was not too much reading or homework. He gives extra credit opportunities and most of the class seemed to be getting good grades. His lectures are easy to understand, and he will always help students who have questions or would like him to review parts of a lecture. This class was fun, informative, and memorable.

He's a great teacher! He knows what he's talking about and tries to keep his students engaged in his lectures by stories. A majority of the class is power points and lectures, however he is eager to clarify anything that he might be talking about taking extra time for students who have questions. He wants you to succeed.

I took this class online and learned nothing. It is literally writing reviews about stupid youtube videos and you can write about something completely unrelated and still get points.

The class was interesting at all times. Ample extra credit opportunities. Tests are fair, and all essay questions are given well in advance so you have no reason to do poorly on them.

Helpful, give you tons of reminder if any hw or test coming up, very clear in his lecture, and he cares for his students. Take him! I wish more professors are like him. No need any book, just use his lecture power point.

Easy professor, but be prepared for lots of reading!! Each week: read 1 chapter, read PPT, study/review, and type an essay weekly. Also, extra credit film (1 hr) long + response. Spent approximately 6-8 hours per week on coursework for this class (online)

Prof Akiyama seems like a great teacher. This class was online so I never met him in person. The quizzes require you to read the book THOUROUGLY! I could not get a score higher than an 82% and bombed my first couple quizzes. However he drops one quiz and gives TONS of EC which boosted my grade up to an A. I highly recommend doing them!

Great prof. Interesting class. Grading was slightly picky. Extra credit options are great. Drops lowest test grade. Testing windows are on the weekends...

He was awesome and his class was easy. As long as you do your work and put in a little effort, you are guaranteed to get a decent grade! He obviously really cares about the topic and is a great teacher!

i had Dr. Akiyama this past fall. He is very funny and tells priceless stories. If you take lecture notes and study a little before exams, this class will be easy breezy. A lot of extra credit opportunities, easy to get an A!

Best teacher I've had at DVC he really cares about his students and their grades. There is almost no way you could fail, even if you don't show up he emails you basically everything you need to know. He drops your lowest exam score out of 5 exams, and gives a ton of extra credit. Definitely take his class if you can!

Great professor. I took his online three-week intersession course over the summer and it actually turned out very well! He sent everybody a PDF version of the textbook so we didn't have to buy it. His quizzes were super easy to follow, and if you do the reading there is no reason not to get an A or at least a B

LOVE THIS GUY. class is fun and interesting. He tells great stories and is so so so understanding of his students. He wants you to do well and offers lots of ways to improve your grade if you perform poorly on tests. I have so much respect for him, he is awesome. DVC is lucky to have him!

Online course. Dr. Mark provided downloadable book. Big savings!! Lots of reading!! Each week: read 1 chapter, read PPT, study/review, and take a quiz. Extra credit available weekly, watch video and write 2 paragraphs. Dr. Mark checks in with the class via email several times a week. He is very organized. No surprises which is nice.

Best online teacher ever! He sends you emails multiple times per day to remind you of the workload for the week. I took his class as an online, sped up intercession class (3 units, 3 weeks). If you are organized and well motivated to do your work, an A is easy!! There are extra credit opportunities each week (so 3 opportunities) and he's so nice!

Great choice if you need a GPA boost and to fulfill your IGETC requirements. He is very accessible through Canvas and communicates well with his students. A huge amount of emails is better than none. In other words, great class, take the three week session if possible.

Mark is a great guy. All lecture slides are posted online and he gives a very clear study guide before each exam. This means you really only have to attend class for the exams but you will want to come in anyway just to hear him talk. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Mark is the best. He is inspiring, gives fascinating lectures, and really wants his students to succeed while making it attainable to do so. He gives more extra credit than any other teacher I've ever had. Also supplies "fill in the blank" notes for his slides, clear study guides for his exams, and allows an index card of notes on exams! Professor Akiyama is a great profeessor. I took his online class, and it's pretty easy if you do study. He gives you a free online book, which is great. You also need to read a lot and think a lot to finish the homework. I would say it's a pretty easy A class (I'm a ESL student).

Mark's the best. His life story will intrigue you from the get go and keep you coming back. He's hilarious and really wants you to do well. The course load is really manageable. Take him!

Dr Akiyama is so amazing, I took his psych 220 online class, he's super caring, makes the grading criteria clear. It is a short-term class (3 weeks), if you want to master personality psychology in 3 weeks then it's nearly impossible, although he gives you a lot of info, but if you need an A for credit, go for it, he's a great teacher. I loved this professor. He hands out notes you fill in the blanks for for each lecture, there's homework assignments every 2-3 weeks that are fairly easy, and he gives exam review sheets as well as letting you bring in a notecard for the exam, and offers EC on exams. Great speaker/lecturer, hilarious and easy to talk to, definitely recommend.

Read the chapter each week- the homework and quiz will be cake. The teacher is super easy going and helpful. Replies pretty quick back to emails. He offers extra credit each week. There's no reason to not pass with an A

He's the best teacher I've taken so far. Ive had good professors that Ive loved but he beats them all. Easy A but you also get the bonus of actually learning in his class as well. He cares for everyone as an individual and lets us know what events and opportunities are available for us, and he's hilarious!!

Where do I even begin? He is seriously the best professor i've ever had and i've taken a lot of classes at dvc. He makes you want to come to class because of his outstanding personality and amazing lectures. Not to mention he is hilarious. MUST take. Very manageable class and very light work. Easy A as long as you do the work and study for exams.

there is extra credit available each week. case studies to read and summarize weekly. professor provides online textbook for free. Study a different psychologist and methodology weekly, powerpoint slides provided for ever week. Although online class, professor very responsive.

I've had harder teachers in middle school. This class is amazing. Take the online class. He offers soooo much extra credit. He drops your lowest quiz grade(we have 8 he drops one) and you can find all of the answers because everything is open note/textbook. The only thing that was a pain was the homework but he grades really generously on that.

In my class Dr. Akiyama didn't take attendance, and yet most of the seats in the class remained full because his lectures were something you didn't want to miss. Relating big ideas to personal stories, clearly enjoying every question someone thinks to ask about the topic, one of the most funny, thoughtful, and kind teachers I've ever had.
