very slow talker. never went to class because her voice is too annoying. bad teacher.
Online Course. Really rough course. Must read everything and take tons of notes. Tests are definitly hard too. Be prepared to put a lot of effort into this course.
It was my understanding that we pay for lectures to be lectured. This professor NEVER lectures. There are many videos, in which responses must be typed and submitted. A paper is due on a novel. The groups for the projects are HUGE. The final and midterm are terrible difficult. You can get an A, but you'll hate the class. Needs to actually TEACH!
Show up to class or don't, either way you still won't know what's going on or what's expected of you. She knows the subject matter and is a really nice lady, but when it comes to assignments things are VERY vague, grading is odd. The tests were super easy with the help of her study guides. Really easy if you're good at guessing.
Stay away at all cost. Took her online class which consisted of 3 tests, 3 discussion boards, and 1 6-8 page paper over "my mother's keeper". Catch was that that paper had nothing to do with the book reading and was never clearly explained in the instructions. Does not asnwer student questions or emails. extremely vague with assignments. Horrible!
ONLINE COURSE -- She guides her TAs well! Her syllabus is LONG but very precise. She had 3 tests which were on YOUR time & paper which IF U FOLLOW DIRECTIONS was simple. there were also 3 discussion posts which were EASY! very informative & precise course. Freakin awesome teacher. =) There is no reason a person whould get below a b in this class.
She is amazing! She is very helpful and the course is easy to do. There are 3 tests, 1 paper on a book outside of the text book, and 2 discussion board postings. If you do the reading then there is no reason you should not be successful in her class. I would take another course by her in a heartbeat!
The class is a joke. The discussion boards are graded on an all or none point system. Even if you think you are doing well in the class and working hard, you will be informed that the only things in the class that even count are the tests...which are impossible. Don't bother studying. just guess
She is so vague, and when clarity is needed, she is condescending. I have over a 4.0 at ASU, and have never been treated like such an idiot -- until now. And don't get me started on her grammar - If you like run on sentences, improper punctuation, and misspellings, then this is the instructor for you.
Online course - Easy A - Tests are hard but there is a lot of other work to pull up your grade. I would definitely take a class from this teacher again!
ONLINE-- very easy class IF you do the reading. Take your time on the test, check your answers against the book. ALL answers to the test ARE in the book, you just have to find them. Very understanding when it comes to personal issues disrupting the semester. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED-- easy A if you're willing to read alot.
Took this class online and it was really interesting but I wish it was with a different professor. She doesn't care if you miss a quiz for issues beyond your control unless you're dying, even if you're an A student. And she's always too busy to help, the TAs are pretty much the professors. LOVE the class, dislike the professor.
I had her this semester for 101 and 331. These courses are very reading heavy. Grading is more done on content and knowing key points, more than grammar. The instructions on the assignments are pretty vague, but I emailed the professor and TA's on many issues and they were immediately clarified. Do the work and you'll get a decent grade.
I took this class online and although I did find the exams a little challenging, the class itself is not extremely difficult. 3 exams, 3 papers, and 3 discussion boards. Brougham was always very responsive to any questions and communicated with the class quite often so you always knew what is expected of you. Over all, great class, great professor!
Mrs. Brougham is awesome. Her tests are really easy you can use your book and notes and its multiple choice. I took this class online and liked it. You do have to write three papers but they are easy if you read your book. You MUST read your book to do well and if you do your guaranteed and A. She is also very friendly and helpful.
Online course. Had all the exams, readings, and assignments posted in the syllabus before the semester started. Very easy to follow instructions and a well communicative group of TA's. Best online course I've ever taken.
Took her online human sexuality class. Awful teacher. Rude to students in her emails and is not helpful at all.
Online human sexuality, extremely easy. As long as you read before taking the exams you will do just fine. I skimmed and took note of where topics were in the book and did just fine on the exams. Only 3 exams and two assignments whole semester. Easy to contact her and TA's, all super helpful and friendly. Easy A and interesting!
TAKE THIS COURSE! I went to class a total of 4 times and still received an A. All tests are online. Two hours to complete 75 questions. You can take each test up to 4 times. (though, each test is slightly different). One paper which she graded easily. Material is slightly interesting. Professor Brougham responds very quickly to emails. AN EASY A!
This class is also FAS331. I don't recommend this class online. You learn nothing and the prof does nothing to make reading a book and taking exams easier. Her online exams are worded oddly and very specific. If you want a good grade read the chapters carefully, take your time on the exams, and don't wait until last minute.
Human Sexuality is a very interesting and fun class. All the exams you can take 3 times, all questions are from the book. A big chunk of your grade comes from doing a Poster Board. Professor emails you right away, and the TA's give you lots of info. Take this class if you need General Credits.
The text is not easy and a bit dry but full of great to know information. Tests are hard (she uses very precise wording and asks about facts that were easy to glance over.) 4 tests and 1 research poster (I loved it.) She is very helpful and responsive... I loved this class and would recommend her as a Prof. to take.
This professor is rude in emails and generally uncooperative.
This is my second class with her. (both online) She's a fair teacher. The expectations are very clear. Gives you a lot of time to do the assignments. Three tests, one project, couple other little things. Grades easy. Easy A I think. Just do the work
The paper was graded fairly. Tests are awful and cover way too much material. The only saving grace is that you can take them 4 times. Each time it is a different test. But if you search our the answers to the first test and find the answers in the book it will point you in the right direction of the content for the second test.
THis class is not as easy or interesting as it may seem. the only good thing is you get to take the tests 4 times but she gets so in depth, that even though its open book is hard to find the answers. her stupid research poster brought me down from an a to a b because it's almost 50% of your grade
She was extremely friendly in her emails and communication with the class. I took this online and if I had been motivated enough could have finished the class in a month. Take notes on the reading. She grades very easily on the essay but what killed my chances of an A+ were missing a few questions on the exams.
This class was really dull. She doesn't know how to do online- no lectures, no discussion boards, nothing. Just a paper (so so boring) and a couple of exams that are very detailed but can be found word for word within the tests. Easy A, but I expect more from an upper division than filling in the blank.
I enjoyed this class. I learned a lot and the assignments were not difficult.
teacher is not helpful nor does she "teach" the class, i took it online & was the worst online class of my entire college career. Her Aide is lazy & neither Brougham & aide never responded on time, timed tests & process of submitting ur midterm paper is time is impossible. Aide and teacher r on 2 diff pages, nothing is clear. GET A DIFF TEACHER!!!
Professor seemed great and nice, had a little misunderstanding in which she jumped the gun at me and became rude, but all was figured out. Class is easy if you read the book.
I took the class online. Really easy class, you get all your assignments up front so you can get the class done early. I got a B+ and didn't put much effort into the class and got it done in half the semester.
Interesting material, but the lectures are SO pointless that it makes me angry. She doesn't talk about ANYTHING related to tests or assignments. It's all just random information. The only reason people go to her class is because she has 6 in class assignments given at random. I like what I learned (on my own) but look into a different professor.
The entire semester of work is laid out in the syllabus so it's you know what's going to be due and when. As long as you keep up with reading you shouldn't have a problem with the tests, which are online, taken at home on your own time. The lectures get dull but there are 5 in class writings that count for 50 points (out of a total of 400)
This class is pretty easy! There was a lot of writing. She makes everything very clear on the syllabus, however she refuses to offer any extra credit or leniency on late work.. Make sure you know when and what time everything is due otherwise it will cost your grade. Its frustrating that a teacher can't be more understanding and she definitely isnt
Found the teacher to be rude and not cooperative. I've gotten 100%'s on all assignments except for 1 and A's/B's on her tests but it was impossible for me to get above a B in the class before I took the final because of her system. I would suggest finding a different professor.
This teacher is a little unclear at times and her 20+ page syllabus isn't much help either (quality over quantity would be nice). She is a little unfair on her grading skill but the exams are all based off the textbook. I reccomend purchasing the online version of the book so that you can scan for questions you have during the exams.
I took Human Sexuality online and it was a breeze. Exams are easy because you can use the textbook, and there are only a few assignments. I met in person with Brougham several times (as part of my honors contract) and she was very friendly. I'm taking her FAS 331 class next semester and looking forward to it. :)
I've taken FAS331 and 332 with her online. She is a great online instructor. Very clear, upfront, and an easy grader on projects. Tests aren't too difficult since you can have the textbook there with you. She seems very nice in the sends emails to "check up" with you throughout the semester.
Brougham is friendly and her online classes are easy. Exams are almost a guaranteed A since you can use the textbook. Not many assignments, but she's a picky grader -- every single tiny detail mentioned in the rubric MUST be included in the assignment or you WILL lose points. Follow the guidelines word for word and you'll end up with an A easily.
I think she's wonderful. Her assignments are put out at the beginning of the semester so you can work on assignments early. This is how I survived taking 4 other classes and hers, because I would do assignments ahead of time and get far ahead. She chooses supplementary material that is interesting and adds to the class. Great professor!
She is such a nice lady! If you do your work and communicate any questions or problems you'll pass her classes with flying colors. I would recommend everyone to take any of her courses.
I took FAS 331 and SOC 315 with Professor Brougham as well as this class. I never had to email her before this class, but when I did, she was always prompt, very nice, and helpful. Her assignments were great. I enjoy her classes. Great professor.
Great teacher. If you do the work she gives you the points. Makes it clear at the beginning of the semester what is asked of you. I would recommend her to anyone.
This is like the other FAS classes I have taken, reading with exam and discussion posts each week with some extra quizzes/papers sprinkled in. Interesting subject but I didn't like the textbook because there was outdated information. You have to watch old movies & that annoyed me because they were not available on Netflix or Hulu.
Took the online 7.5 week course.Lots of material and reading but easy A.Recommend this class and professor!
She is by far the best online instructor I have had! All the content and tests were up the day class started. She is very helpful and prompt, I liked the idea of watching movies and reading books related to our subject. Although we did have to write a paper on it, I did not mind, the papers were easy. Im Taking another online with her this semester
I also took 332 with her. She is not really involved in the class and everything is based off of the book. You have to take a few quizzes on books and movies, but they are EASY. Her tests on the other hand are NOT.
Love this class. Took the accelerated 7.5 week online course and it was simple. The topics were interesting, we had a discussion board each week, and an exam. The exams were challenging but answers are in the book. It overall was an easy A. Highly recommend this professor
Awesome teacher and a really fun class! Discussion board and tests are the only assignments due, and you get a good amount of time to complete them.
She is so rude. She does not respond to my emails and neither does her TA. She gave me a really low score even though I calculated my grade and should have received a 'B', she gave me a 'D'. Her class was so easy but she is a very rude person. Do not recommend.
Brougham is very clear as to when assignments/tests are due. Straightforward and the class is very easy.
This class was super easy. I put very little effort into it and still got an A. Brougham and her TA's all responded to me in a timely fashion (the longest I had to wait was 2 days and that was during fall break), and clarified any questions I had. He syllabus is long but it doesn't take long to read. I would recommend this course to anyone.
The Discussion Boards were easy but when it came to the tests even if you read the book you will be scrambling threw the book to find the right answers since they a timed, the tests cover too many chapters it is impossible to get above a C if you get a B your ecstatic
took this class online, pretty easy, hardly read the book. online exams are open book. discussions due once a week. pretty much no contact with teacher, all just driven by the discussion post and test and 1 paper. easy class for an easy A. be sure to stay on top of deadlines!
Easy class, if you get the chance to take it TAKE IT. I suggest getting the e-book. I used it through my kindle app on my laptop. Test are open book, just get the discussions and responses done on time and you have yourself an A.
Easy class. Test and discussion board each week, offers extra credit. Textbook is pretty graphic so be aware, but very interesting nonetheless. definitely recommend!
Super easy class! Make sure you read. Only one paper (it was a 1 pager!) and nothing but DQ's (one a week) and a quiz. The quiz comes directly from the book, so read it. Powerpoints provided weren't all that helpful.
Her class was relatively useless to my overall education. Lectures were useless but attendance mandatory. Time was spent working out of class for four group projects that were poorly issued and were highly vague in her expectations. The course was overall conducted very lazily with high expectations of students with no effort by the instructor.
I scored 95-100% in each assignment. She has the time due as NOON she made the midterm worth 80 pts which the class is worth 400. She insulted me when I reached out to her because I missed noon by a few hours as I was at work. I do not recommend this prof to anyone being she was insensitive. She has been a prof too long and is desensitized.
Very easy class. Just do the discussion boards which are also simple. She gave the online version of the textbook so I didn't buy the book. Exam Guard was used at first, but then taken off due to technical difficulties. Offers extra credit and then adds some points at the end of the class in case some of the questions on the exams were bad!
I took it in 7.5 weeks and it wasn't really hard. What I didn't like was the DBs are pass or fail so you could spend an hour on one but mess up formatting and get a 0. The tests were kinda hard, definitely have to read the book because reading ppts and skimming isn't enough. Overall recommend if you love the subject. I didn't work hard and got an A
Easy A+. Weekly DB's, exams and 1 super short paper and offers extra credit. I hardly fully read the chapters (I wish I could have-very interesting) and since exams were 1.5 hours, I was able to do well on them since I had the time find answers in the book. Make a calendar so you don't miss any deadlines- session A goes really fast.
Dr. Brougham was great. Lectures aren't mandatory but every week you have either a DB or Exam online, it rotates. Then there will be a short paper or so. However, make sure you go to class because she randomly has class assignments that you must be present for. Overall, great structured class and extremely interesting material.
I had Professor Brougham for Human Sexuality, or FAS 332. I finished with an A in the course and, to be honest, rarely attended lecture. She assigns a few in class assignments, but they're not worth many points. A few DBs which were easy, and if you have the book in front of you tests are easy too. Would recommend Brougham for FAS 332 for sure.
This was a 7 week online class and it was the easiest and most interesting class I've taken yet. You do need the text book assigned because the tests are open book and takes questions right from the book. Blackboard Discussions are super easy and short. Totally recommend this class for and easy A.
This class was very fun and informative. Even though the class was only 7.5 weeks long, per week we only had to read 2-3 chapters, answer 1 question she asked in the syllabus for the Discussion Board, respond to 2 other DBs, and take 1 quiz (which you could take up to 3 times to better your grade). When I had questions, she answered them thoroughly
The lectures are somewhat irrelevant to the test. She goes over the basic understandings of each concept but if you just use notes from the lectures you will fail the test. The lectures can be very boring but tend to end early.
i would not take this class with this professor. Her slide shows are helpful but her lectures are not. You could easily pass without going to class but she doesn't make her own tests, they seem easy but no one gets that good of a grade on them. Definitely try to find a different professor.
Honestly, I thought this would be an easy class and I was so surprised that it is so hard. Her lectures are not the material on the test. It is all from the book! She only has 4 tests so study for them! They are online tests and she gives you four hours to complete them. They are open note (thank god).
The exams are straight from the textbook and they are fairly easy. It seems like attending lecture is unnecessary, but I still like to attend. She pays attention to who shows up and gives us helpful study guides and extra credit opportunities. Lectures can feel pretty long at times.
Do not take this professor. She is boring to listen to and what she says isn't even on the test. She expects that every student doesn't go to class if they email her a question; and is rude about it. The online tests are all from the book, and it could be one single insignificant sentence that is being tested, luckily there is 4 hours to take it.
Worst class ever
Do not take this class with her! Anything she says in class IS NEVER on the tests as she doesn't even write them! No one ever goes to her lectures because every test is online and open book.
The lectures are horrible and the tests have nothing to do with them. Stay away from her.
Her lectures are straight from the book, so if you take the class for sure read. She got really bitter about people not coming to class so she wouldn't post somethings. I would never take her class again. Attendance not mandatory but you might miss some extra credit options.
This class was so annoying. Brougham refuses to use a mic in a 450 student class so IF you plan on going sit in the front. Her lectures do absolutely nothing for the tests you take so its pointless to go, especially when you can use your text book and the internet for all the exams. The only assignments that hold decent weight are the exams.
You will get an A if you read the book and take your time looking up the answers in the book on the tests. I wish I had known that earlier. The lectures aren't that interesting but if you don't go you'll miss out on some extra credit opportunities. Just read the book and you'll be fine.
EASIEST A, I advise buying the online texts. 10ish tests and all online, open book. No one went to her class, but she got very bitter over it and would not posts vital info online. You don't have to go to the lecture, theyre irrelevent. The discussion board assignment s is posted online which is the only assignment, wished I wouldve never attended
As far as an online class goes, this was the first I actually looked forward to working on. Great content, clear assignments and lectures, and she is willing to help you out as long as you put in the work, which for a 300 level elective, is fair and honestly easy. the book is a necessity, but is great--funny and honest about Human Sexuality.
This teacher does not teach. Throughout the duration of this course, she must have given five actual lectures. The rest of our time was spent watching videos, guest speakers, doing in class writings, and doing group discussions. She also threatens students to make sure they attend with random in class writing assignments. Vindictive and boring.
I was really looking forward to this class, but I ended up being disappointed. The book was interesting and and easy, but the lectures were pointless and unrelated to the text. If you're looking for an easy A take this class, but if you're actually looking to learn and expand your interests, stay away. Syllabus is also 16 pages long and confusing.
For this class you HAVE to read the book because all the exams are straight from the textbook. Its easy if you read the assigned chapters. Overall this class was easy because I actually read the material and did the discussion boards. In-class writing assignments were really easy too. The only way to fail is if you're lazy and don't like to read.
This class didn't have assignments every week, however there are two DB essay assignments that will take time to do. Had to read a 400 page book for a 5 question quiz. The other 3 quizzes are from reading the book & are 80 questions each. You get two attempts & 2 hours each to complete them. Not the easiest class, but didn't find it too difficult.
I really don't like her. I hate coming to class, I've skipped this class so many times and I have a 97. She lectures for like 20 minutes and then you have a test the next class, so you have to read on your own. If you love reading text books and not learning in class, this class is for you. She gives an exam once a week. GOOD LUCK.
I have taken two online classes with Brougham and she ran them pretty similar. She gives you a schedule of what needs to be completed and when. I was able to knock my assignments out before mid-semester. She gave three tests and they were tough, even if you read the book. She did not give essays to do, but there were 7 discussion boards.
This is the easiest class. You don't even have to attend the lectures to make an A. Tests are online and open book and I'd recommend doing them with people.
Easy A! Never had to go to class and all of her exams were online without respondus lockdown browser. I would recommend taking this class if you are trying to get by without much work.
Not an easy A. She doesn't give many assignments but you do have to read the textbook (perhaps reread) to do well on test. Test are tough, no study guide! Impossible to memorize so much info. Book is very interesting though.
BRO-HAM!!! But on a more serious note, I only attended four lectures at maximum (the only lectures you should really attend are guest speakers and DVDs). Her open-book tests are a piece of cake and you get two shots (last score is the final score). The only homework you have are the syllabus and academic integrity quizzes and discussion board posts
This class was extremely easy. While I didn't learn a single thing in this class I got an A+ without having to go to literally any of her classes. Has an online exam about once a week not proctored and you can find all the answers online. She only has 3 discussion boards about 300 words each. Easy A, won't learn a thing though.
Pretty Easy Class. Read the textbook and look over power points (both are surprisingly not boring)
Only take this class online if you are an exceptional reader; if you want an A prepare to read the entire 600-page textbook. Exams are open-book and there are several questions about tiny details, so be prepared to scavenger hunt your book even if you do read. 3 easy quizzes, 3 moderately difficult long exams, and several discussion boards.
This class is an easy A. I haven't learned a single thing about sociology and I still passed with an A+. There are 8 exams online, but you can look them up really easy. Her lectures are pointless, she doesn't any questions about her lectures on the exam. She is boring to listen to. She also doesn't use a microphone in a huge lecture hall.
This class can be an Easy A if you put in a bit of effort. There are 8 test online, based solely on the textbook, and are easy to find online. Don't bother going to lectures, they are boring and long and any information will not be on any of the online test. She's a nice lady, but if you are just fulfilling GenEd's just worry about tests.
SOC 101 was easy and fun. You're not required to come to class, but if you don't I would expect nothing more than a B+. Exam answers can be found word for word in the book. She gives many chances for getting extra credit but you have to show up to class for most of those opportunities.
Brougham's lectures have nothing to do with the exams. The exams are open book, so you really don't have to go to class. In fact, it's more of a hindrance than a benefit to attend class. The other day she had a guest speaker come in and talk about stamps. STAMPS. You're welcome for the warning.
As a professor, Brougham is kind but expects a lot out of students. Although the course was difficult at times due to approximately 60 pages of reading in the textbook, all tests were open book. Unfortunately, she rarely gave out study guides and the lectures had nothing to do with the assessment content. Eventually people stop showing up to class.
This class and teacher were a joke. The tests are open book online and class is cancelled for every test and project; she literally cancelled half of the classes over the semester. If I'm paying $40 per class for tuition I actually want to learn something and have a class I need to go to. It's an easy A but she's a horrible teacher.
Probably the easiest A. Tests are all online. You can use your textbook and you get two tries on the test. Lectures are pointless and you don't need to go except when you turn in silly assignments. Discussion Boards are easy, and a daily journal is the only thing you have to remember to keep up with. Take if you want an A and not really learn.
If you're a sociology major, then this is definitely not the class to take. If you're looking for an easy A and a class that you can skip every lecture, then this is it. All the assignments were online and going to lecture was useless. Plus, they were really boring. She literally had a guest speaker talk about the history of stamps.
Easiest A of my life, attendance was graded one time the whole semester.
This class was mind-numbingly boring. Don't show up: lectures have nothing to do with the tests and attendance is taken by 4 random assignments throughout the entire semester that are only worth 1 point a piece. All tests and assignments are online.
7 discussion boards in total & 3 exams, however the tests were extremely hard. Questions are super specific and using the textbook is a must and sometimes you are still left guessing! Her Power points are pointless. You will have to read each chapter twice and then still end up cheating on exams & looking up answers to get a C!
She was, overall, an decent professor. She left a harsh impression during the first day of class, where she wrangled the students that were sitting in the back rudely. She, also, refused to set up and use a microphone. As SOC 101 is almost always a huge class, this is questionable. You essentially take 8 exams and do 4 small participation projects.
Prof Brougham tells great stories from her experiences over the years, and I would definitely have her again. This course is great for anyone interested in military families regardless of major (family & human dev, social work, nursing, etc.) No prerequisites either. There is a certificate for Military Families, but you can just take this course.
There are a few assignments, but each assignment is not that hard. Still take it seriously though because there are only a few assignments to be graded. Interesting to learn and would definitely take again.
Took it online, 4 discussion boards. 8 Exams not proctored & the questions are on course hero. You also get 2 attempts at each exam, but she takes the score of the second attempt. At the end of the semester, if you missed an Exam you are allowed to make up ONE exam, but you can't retake one to raise the score. I rented the book, but didn't use it.
This class is an easy A as long as you try and keep up with due dates. However, Prof Brougham never actually teaches anything and her directions are confusing and vague. Once I emailed her to clarify something and instead of answering she posted a blackboard announcement answering my question in a condescending way. Easy class. Mediocre professor.
If you read the textbook, you should do well on the exams. However, some questions are tricky and outdated. From my experience, she is reusing old exams. Be sure to check your exams and make sure the questions are marked correctly! I had a very bad experience with this. If there are other SOC 101 classes available, choose one of those instead.
Professor Brougham is very helpful and friendly, she gives 8 online exams and 4 discussion broad assignments. If you pay a little bit effort, you will get full credit in assignments. The exams are not very tough, 40 multiple choice, some are true or false. 2 attempts, she takes the second attempt. She cares students! Highly recommended!
this was an easy A. only reason I got a B was because I accidentally missed an exam. I read anything or even buy the book. get two try's for every exam and 1 make up day at the end. all assignments and requirements are listed in the syllabus so there no reason for anyone to fail. emails get answered right away and grades are accessible immediatly.
Class is average. Only made up of tests that are open book and discussion boards. Pretty easy to get full credit on discussions.
such an easy class if you are on top of your stuff and the deadlines especially! you can find almost all of the test answers online. 8 tests, 4 discussion boards, and journals due every friday. it is a lot of work but its easy work.
Not even a teacher!
If you are looking for a teacher that is respectful, intelligent, and organized.... this is NOT the person you want trying to teach you!
this class was an easy A. there is a lot of work, but if your on top of it you should do fine.
Random attendance points so it is better to show up to class. I read the textbook but she doesn't really use it. Her power points also don't match much of the textbook reading or the class assignments. There are in-class essays and group projects. I would not take her again only because going to lecture was pointless. Only went for random points.
There is a lot of reading from a textbook, which is not unordinary, but the coursework is easy to follow. I also recommend taking notes if you want to be able to pass exams.
Took Human Sexuality online. The discussion boards were not related to the assigned chapters, you had to search for the right information to use. She was not good at responding to emails. The assignments and tests were easy but I would not take her again.
Get the textbook online!!! Lots of discussion boards and there are multiple exams and if you do control find in the book you will for sure pass. I made the mistake of buying a hard copy and it took me a long time to complete exams. She is a very nice professor and always responded timely to my emails. She even helped me with an honors contract.
Class material was dense but simple and laid out fairly . Grading was concise and always good if expectations are met. Weekly quizzes, 4 dbs. A is very possible
Shoul be an easy A, everything is online. You dont need to buy the textbook just google it. Includes discussion boards and daily acts of kindness journals to post every friday.
The entire online class consists of a kindness journal, discussion boards, and tests. Do not take if you want to learn something outside of a textbook. That might be expected from an online course, but this class doesn't challenge students at all. Just be sure to read the syllabus so you know exactly when things are due, which isn't very clear.
She was nice and it was a good class. There's a lot of busy work. You have to keep a kindness journal and do a random act of kindness every day and record both the random act and response everyday. Overall not bad of a class.
I have never communicated with this professor, I have communicated with nine of her TA's It is extremely annoying. There is no clear lecture and everything is based on the book. Learning nothing. Do not take her, her TA's also grade hard and when you try and email them. They email back with RUDE responses. I am never taking her again.
I did not like this class. Prof B. is nice and all but I never got a good grade on a test and we had to read this book that was down right creepy. Her essay criteria are really weird too. compare your average page of writing to the words or pages requirements. I have done decently in online classes. Just not this one.
This Professor's class is just super unorganized. The due dates are listed in the syllabus and they won't be inputted into the modules so unless you're constantly checking the syllabus, you're going to miss a lot of due dates. The workload was decent. Not bad for a 101 class.
Nothing is taught in this class, all you're told is to read this text then take a test and every know and then do a discussion forum. The class is simple but the teaching could be greatly improved.
This class was so unorganized. Sometimes it was unclear when things should be completed by. Also, the syllabus didn't always match what the prof was expecting. Class announcements and the syllabus said one exam was on chapters 6-7, so thats what I prepared for. Went to take the test and it was on chapters 7 and 8. I wouldn't recommend this prof.
In a class that introduces students into the study of society, you'd think she chose a book up to date on modern issues. The book also criticizes certain religions, implying a certain religion is responsible for societal fracture in Europe. This highly offended me as a member of said religion. Also, mistakes in the grading system that weren't fixed
This class is primarily composed of weekly exams and discussion boards. It is an easy A if you stay on top of your work.
I took her session B online class and it was pretty easy! At the beginning of the semester she had specific deadlines for exams and discussions boards, but changed them all to be due at the end of the semester. You also get two attempts on exams and the class is based on points. The book was helpful, but not necessary.
Not often that I've read the entire textbook for a class. 8 tests and a handful of discussion boards. As long as you keep up, it's easy to get a good grade. I emailed her a couple times and never heard back, so I emailed a TA and they got back to me ASAP.
Only downside to this professor is there are no lectures. Be ready to read the textbook front to back. All tests are open book, which is nice. Discussion forums are required, but expectations are clear. Easy A for a required credit.
If you enjoy being taught by a professor, do not take this class. It's strictly: read these chapters, write this DB, take this test. The tests were ridiculously hard & focused on the tiniest details. She also closed down the community DB at her convenience during COVID-19, forcing students to email about every single concern. Stay away.
SOC101 is what you'd expect. There are no lecture videos though, so you're teaching yourself entirely from the textbook. There are 8 "exams" that are more like quizzes on each unit. There's also a few discussion board posts, but no responses to other students are required. Dr. Brougham is accessible via email and very receptive to student concerns.
Disappointing. If you miss a single discussion board it will be impossible to get an A
Awesome professor. The class is extremely easy, but it's also meaningful. You will absolutely learn something from this class that you can apply in your real life, but you won't struggle to make a good grade. Professor is so sweet and provides feedback on every assignment regardless of the grade.
This seemed slightly overwhelming at times, as all classes seem for a freshman, but this class is an icourse. This class entails an exam weekly (at times), coupled with a discussion forum. You learn yourself, reading up to 60 pages a week, and you have hardly any time to prepare for what is on the DF. Dates are disorganized, and she mixes topics.
This class was a mess. The canvas was so disorganized! It was difficult to find out due dates and what to do for each assignment. There was an exam almost every week on two long chapters of reading. However, the exams were only on canvas and answers were easy to find online. The worst part of the class is trying to get information from the prof.
Open modules so you can work at your own pace. Lots of reading but it was interesting. Read it, theres a quiz for every chapter and thats where most of the points are. The rest come from weekly posts. She wants to see you succeed and it shows. I would love to see her add yellow dig for more student interaction.
Great class! Very interesting material. Quizzes (timed, but can take twice, open book) , Discussion Forums post and response, read the material, prepare for the tests and your posts and you will do well in this class. She also allows you to work ahead through the modules, which was very nice! Take this class and professor. A!
iCourse. Self paced, there are some discussion posts to do, make sure it's substantial and a good quality post, both the original post and the responses. All of her tests are based on the book. READ. READ. READ. Read the designated chapters for that test.
Easy enough class, because its an icourse I have not actually had any interaction with the professor. Quizzes can be taken twice and are not too hard, discussion boards can take a while but they are graded fairly. Overall, solid choice for SOC101 online.
This will probably be one of the easiest classes you'll take at ASU! Only 5 discussion boards and the fifth one is your final (500-700 words + 1 peer response) and all exam answers can be online. She does have a required book but you can definitely pass without it. Very fast at responding to emails.
I took Professor Brougham's SOC101 iCourse for session A, and it wasn't bad at all. Tests aren't proctored. There's 5 discussion post assignments that can be a little hard if you're not comfortable with writing. But they're not graded harshly so don't sweat it. You can go at your own pace (but there are due dates obviously). Overall, great class!
Really fun and interesting class. 4 exams that are multiple choice and directly from the textbook. You'll have weekly short discussion boards (<500 words) that need to have citations from the textbook and an outside source. No right or wrong answers so have fun and be genuine in your replies to others. Everyone learned from each other's feedback.
Her class isn't a breeze but she's really helpful and responsive. Called me to discuss my test, wasn't expecting that kind of support. Discussions require you to really apply what you're learning and do some exploring of outside sources. I learned a lot as a result. Only feedback is the exams are more facts than application, which feels unhelpful.
This was a really interesting class and not too much work. Took it as a session B class and still wasn't hard. We had a discussion board and "exam" due every week. All the answers can be found somewhere in the textbook and the discussion boards are pretty easy and interesting to participate in. Writing assignment due at the end, about 4 pages
HARD at the beginning! Chapters for the week are 20 pg long and PP notes didn't even remotely cover the material. The only saving grace was that each quiz is open-note, got 2 tries, and the questions were the same, just different order 2nd time; all questions in the study guide she sends out not txt. Dif book required that helps with final paper
She assigns lots of homework. As well has there being 1 test a week which is not that bad. The class is pretty easy and she is very good at respond to emails.
This professor does not care about her students. The discussions require HOURS of work. The syllabus said we got 80 minutes for the test, which had 50+ and really hard questions, and only gave us 70. Wouldn't honor the syllabus either. You need those extra 10 minutes. Had to drop because it would have messed up my 4.0. Not worth it.
She seems like am empathetic professor at first, but is not. The rules she has for exams just makes it seem like she wants students to fail. (45 mins only? Can't go back on questions? Taken in the same sitting?) Many mistakes on exams so you have to reach out if you want your points back which MIGHT happen. It's a bummer because I was excited...
Grade is based on 7 discussion boards, 4 multi-choice tests, & 1 essay. The rubrics make it clear exactly what's needed from each assignment, & if you follow it then you'll get full points. Textbook is essential for this class & needed for all assignments. Brougham & TA's are responsive to emails and caring. Lots of busy work but not a hard class.
Great communication when I needed help.
The class materials are outdated. Studies are being cited from the 80s and 90s when more accurate information is available today. There are no real lectures on the course content. The slides are pointless. The test questions are full of double negatives and errors. It's very frustrating.
super easy class, easy A. just do the work and you will be fine. take an a or b session to easy your workload the rest of the year.
I do not appreciate her all or nothing discussion boards. They are high point value and if you make a small mistake such as not using perfect APA format- ZERO... no matter how hard you worked on something. I found her incredibly unreasonable in that aspect. Take away some points.. Don't just discredit all of the hard work put in.
In this class, Brougham skipped the chapter on contraception and abortion, which I hadn't noticed until the last discussion assignment requiring students to donate to organizations that support mothers and babies while openly encouraging a donation to crisis pregnancy centers - religious based and anti-choice organizations. This is irresponsible.
Very clear messaging. She was responsive to emails and had a great way of storytelling and making you feel comfortable and encouraged.
I have had Professor Brougham for both FAS101 and FAS301 and she has been great. There are discussions and quizzes based off the textbook readings. The only thing that I didn't like about either classes was the book report that is due at the end of class, but otherwise these classes were a breeze.
I've had Professor Brougham a few times and I have enjoyed the classes they've taught. There is always a good amount to read but it's all easy work to stay on top of. There is a good amount of writing too but it is easy to do as long as you read your book.
This class was pretty easy and straightforward with a discussion board and exam every module. There is two different essays though, due at the end of course. Professor Brougham was kind and seemed to care about her students. Was definitely an easy elective course.
Pretty straightforward course. One big project that is broken up into weekly assignments. Maybe 2 to 3 discussion posts that you have to do. Overall, it is pretty easy to get an A in this course as long as you do the work. Definitely take this course if you need an easy A. Only purchase the textbook for the course you don't need anything else
The content itself was interesting, but for a 100 level course, there was A LOT required of you. Exams and lots of papers. If you can whip up a paper really quick, you'll be fine, but be sure to read the syllabus VERY carefully. This was a really consuming course that I really had to fight to keep an A in. Ye be warned.
too many paper
Professor Brougham was great! She was very understanding when I had issues and seemed to care about her students a lot. There's a lot of reading, but the exam questions are pulled straight out of the book (ctrl+f helped). Two essays, but they're pretty much just reflection based so they weren't bad. I really enjoyed this class & it was an easy A.
FAS101 with Professor Brougham was a breeze. The course has engaging content and an understanding instructor. With Unstuck AI and the free textbook, acing the exams and papers was a piece of cake. Definitely an easy A-level class.
It is extremely hard to reach out to this professor. Even though the course was easy, she is a tough grader and she is hard to get in touch with.
Weekly discussion posts (500ish words and reply), 4 exams not proctored open notes, 5 page midterm essay, and final writing project. She gives good grades if effort is put in and assignments are complete. Would absolutely take again. Makeup exams offered if an exam is missed.
