Horrible teacher, random, no assignment sheet, very biased grading. Poor overall grades for the class. Does not tell what she want. Do yourself a favor and steal all of her chalk before every class so she doesnt begin with her jibberish on the board.

Horrible instructor. I had no idea what she was looking for in my assignments, and gave no useful feedback when questioned about it.

This teacher has no clue what she's doing. She goes off on random tangents all of the time that have no relevance to the cource. I advice not taking this course with Mabe.

one of the worst teachers i've ever had. she doesnt follow the syllabus and doesn't give assignment sheets. makes you write about the STUPIDEST things. Not fun not interesting... she just plain pissed me off during class- i didnt learn anything!

HORRIBLE!!!!! Very unclear grading, might as well not have a syllabus. When tried to participate cut me off and degrated if don't agree with her. Thought I would learn something useful...instead I learned how to keep my calm even though pissed off. Seemed to grade papers on view rather than content.

This class is the stupidest waste of your time. Mabe is so incoherently unclear that you won't ever know what you are supposed to be doing. The class has absolutely nothing to do with English itself because you are too busy talking about politics, social issues, and the environment. Horrible class

Horrible, Horrible teacher.

This professor is absolutely horrible. The only english part of this class is the fact that we write papers and critque them. Everything else is about soial issues or some bs things that have NOTHING to do with anything that we are supposed to be discussing.

If you need organization, this is not the teacher for you. All you do is write 5 or 6 essays and try to peer review them, which is hard because she goes off topic very easily and would rather talk about other issues during class.

goes off topic very easily. wants to appear democratic and as if she is interested in your views , but at the end she only believes that she is the only one who is right. i bet if she deos read tghis she is coming up with thousands of mistakes in my writing.

Awful. I was between an A and a B in this class. She wanted me to come to Baltimore from NYC the day before Christmas to discuss my grade. I suggested that we discuss it over the phone--it was SNOWING. She gave me a B sans discussion.

Absolutely avoid her at all costs. She is the worst teacher I have ever had. She assumes that hers is the only class you are taking and that you should be 150% dedicated for ENGL 100--what a joke! She's also a hard grader, oh and they should just change the class title to Social Issues 101. DO NOT TAKE IT WITH HER!!!

Very nice in person, although very flighty and confusing in class (an understatement). No exams or quizzes. "Required" reading, although you can get away with only reading a few sentences from each... you are not held accountable for any of it. Just show up for class and act like you are paying attention, and you will do fine.

I can say without out doubt that Mabe is one of the worst teachers I have had in my entire academic career. She is a very nice woman, but lacks all ability as a teacher. She will go off on random stories in class that have no bearing whatsoever on the subject matter. She is also totally unorganized and doesnt seem to have a grading system.

Do not take a class with Mabe. She's probably the wackiest professor at this school, she has no guidance, and I dropped her class almost immediately after I received my first essay back from her. She's not willing to help you, but she is willing to confuse the hell out of you. Do whatever you can do to avoid her at all costs.

She is absolutely the most confusing professor you will ever have....no question about it. She jumps from topic to topic rarely making any sense.

i know that she knows what she is talking about with what she has learned..but she has no way of conveying it to students..she uses the books to do the explaining for her..but honestly i dont think anybody reads so therefore it doesnt help..i know my writing didnt change from how it was in high school and i didnt learn anything

Unclear, overly emotional teacher that grades based on your point of view, not your grasp of English. Avoid her unless you want a headache.

She is the worst professor I've ever had. I had her for interpersonal communications and it was like group therapy every class. On the last day of class she handed out papers of those who cited things wrong saying that we were all put on a a list of those who have plagiarized. She is easy if you give her what she wants. Sappy stories.

Honestly, she's just not a good teacher. She can never hold on to a coherent thought, her brain is always muddled with several different tangents when she teaches, and she only likes to hear herself talk; she normally doesn't give anyone else a word in edge-wise. If you're looking for a difficult English teacher, she's your go-to gal.

She is useless and grades essays based on nothing. You either get a C, or a C-. if you want to get a good GPA, this is not the teacher for you. this is like the review before me because it is true. She really is inconsistent with her teaching and has the attention span of a pigeon.

Do not take this course if you want to maintain a decent GPA. She leaves good notes on essays, but returns them with terrible grades. She does NOT follow her syllabus and confuses students on when assignments are due. She gets very sidetracked with topics that are not relevant with the class. all in all, don't take this class. You have been warned.

I have to take this class for my Major and she's the only one who teaches it. Horrible teacher. Never know what to expect from her. She says one thing, you work hard and then she grades on something totally different. Don't take this class with her. Take it at a community college instead!

If you don't care about grades, are willing to pour out your heart and personal life in papers, do not miss classes, and know MLA format like the back of your hand, you MAY do well in this class. She is extremely distractable, very flighty, and very disorganized. Don't bring your laptop in, she hates that. There ARE papers. She talks a lot too.

She goes off in tangent. Hates it if you chew gum in class. She is very picky on papers and especially on grammar and when you copy something from the book even if you quote it properly. I wrote a paper and I missed a coma in my qoute, she wrote me up for academic integrity. I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP. She is weird and NEVER clear on paper grading.

If you are reading this, take my advice--do NOT take this class with this teacher unless you want to stress out with unclear assignments and horrible grading! I learned nothing in this class. Total waste of time and my money!

Somehow, the past 12 pages of negative comments just don't quite say it. I am currently taking It's class, and I am strongly considering withdrawing. Scratch that - I will be withdrawing tomorrow.

WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD. Unclear, unorganized, no clear grading scale- homophobic! She will not allow me to read one of my essays to the class (even though it is my designated time to do so) because she is "uncomfortable" with the bisexual content of it! TIME TO FIRE HER

I think I am one of the few people who received an A in her class. She uses a very "different" style of grading. It is confusing, inconsistent, and if you do not stay on top of her about issues you may have your issues will probably get lost in the stack of papers she runs into the class with. I learned a lot from the book rather than her.

Avoid at all cost. She is the most confusing teacher from her grading to when you are suppose to have your book in class. Doesn't ever clearly explain why you got a certain grade and never sure of the exact due date for papers. Two group papers which were annoying.

SHe is disorganized, not clear, and apparently, has a poor sense of memory. Don't take her speech class. It was more of a therapy class for everyone to declare their feelings

Her grading system is extremely unclear. She did not tell us what she expected of us until after we did our speeches. She goes off on tangents every class that do not have anything to do with the class. I had a 4.0 until I had her. Make sure to go to every single class! She cares about attendance.

Professor tried to turn a lower level English class into rocket science. Worst class. I genuinely believe she is a good person, but she can be very abrasive and extremely rude. Btw this is going to be the most emotional class you will ever take...

Vague grading system, and her directions are unclear. Spends little time on the important things. Doesn't update the grades till the last day. Also doesn't tell what grade you got on assignments. Be aware she doesn't like technology.

I have never been more confused in my life then when I took this "class". First, its not a class really, its a lecture on feelings... Not sure how it fits in the Speech category... Second, she is a wreck: all over the place with no clear deadlines or grading scale. Third, she grades like this is a 400 level class. Avoid Mabe, she is terrible.

She was extremely vague and unhelpful as a person and as a professor. I'm saying this as someone who breezed through the class. Many will probably have to end up taking her because she teaches prerequisites, but PLEASE avoid her at all costs.

I took her SPCH class just for and easy A and I felt like I took a writing intensive class. The class is nothing about the course material, she just speak whatever she wants. As a SPCH class, there is no presentation, only writing, and no clear class goal. Don't recommend, never take it.

I have never seen a professor so rude and disrespectful. Never let students talk and constantly accused students of having mental health issues. Please DO NOT take this professor under any circumstance.

She's a train wreck, to say the very least. Be aware that she won't use Blackboard and cannot function on a laptop. Wrote me up for "plagiarism" when I forgot quotation marks but cited sources. Will actually bully students when they disagree. Tries to be a therapist and make the class share things they don't want to. She absolutely sucks.

This professor is truly the worst. A student in the class mentioned having a disability, and during the next class Mabe played YouTube videos (for the entire period) about how your only disability is a bad attitude. Im not sure how she ever received tenure, and she really does pick on her students. I dread going to class every week. Please avoid.
