The worst teacher in accounting department. Dont take cost accounting with this guy,or he will eat you alive. exam comes from CPA exam.

He teaches from the begining of each chapter, which we could have done ourselves. He reviews the homework but doesn't do any examples. His exam are difficult you need to read them carefully and determine which pieces of information not to use.

Tests are very hard-but if you keep up with the work load you should be fine. If you need to be coddled through the course then definately do not take him- if you want the real world -take his courses!

I would not take him again unless i could study myself and come for the exam only. He could be a good person but he is not a teacher. He reads from the text and can;t do even Brief exarcies without answer keys. He curve good. His exams are 20 multiple choice all computat. He talks a lot about unrelated stuff and writes everything on the board.

This is the worst professor I have ever encountered. He is sadistic and spends a good portion of the class time belittling the students and criticizing the other professors. The rest of the time he is busy bragging about himself. His attempts to put notes on the board are sad. They are all over the place and hard to follow.
If I had a choice, I would rather stay home and watch "Barney" than go to his class.
Prof. Mazzo gets a bad rap here. His tests are somewhat harder than other accounting professors, and he assigns a bit more homework and checks it. His classroom presentation is as good as any of the other teachers there. Accounting can be a hard major. The sour grapes are from students who failed or did poorly.
What ever you do, stay away from him
reads from the textbook, the person who gave him a 5 must be a girl, if you take him you'll know why i say that. the class is easy, but the tests are pointlessly aimed at fooling you, and he takes great pride in fooling you. this guy is so full of himself, take him and hear nothing but about his bronze medal in the CPA exam.
Mazzo is truely full of himself, but you can get a good grade in his class. This is how 1.you must come to class 2.make sure knows you in a good light 3.class participation(tho your not going to get most of his questions right).He got a B. There were some girls in his 306 class that failed all of his test & got a B- b/c they came to class & tried.
What ever you do, stay away from him
This teacher talks a lot abour "real world situations," he's genuinlly interested in your learning the topic he teaches. Some of his exams are tough, but if you are planning on taking the CPA exam, you have to be ready, and be able to handle some difficult problem solving. He prepares you for this.
This Professor can teach but the material is really hard. There are 4 computer projects you must do. These projects are not easy and you're basically on your own. But this professor is really good and friendly and he relates well with students. You must participate in class to get a good grade. 20% of your grade will depend on his discretion.

I would say that he is one of the most arrogant people not professors I have ever met in my life. He will rub any normal human the wrong way and he will talk ad nauseum about his credentials and how smart he is.Oh and by the way you can't pass his exams and he is actually happy about this occurs. Common people, Professor Mazzo is not that bad. At least he is not boring and you only need to get 40s and 50s to get C or B in his class. What difference does it make if you get 80 and get a B or if you get 50 and still get a B. He curves his exams live crazy but he wouldn't spoon feed you. This is college not junior high.
It is not the fact that you receive a 40 and get a c, it is the point that mazzo is a complete jerk. Being tretaed like a grown up, at the college level, is part of the step up from junior high. So your argument that he spoon feed you is not the point, he needs to readjust his way of teaching to become more human.....btw not possible.
I don't think this professor really what he's doing. He gave the same joke every class and very proud that no one can pass his test even though they are open books and open notes. I am not saying that he's not good maybe he's very smart, he just doesn't know how to teach. he should change the way he changes to make the material more comprehensible.
This professor not only gives hard exams, but also does not know how to teach. He spends half the time boasting of his qualifications. Notes given on the board are useless for the exam. The exams themselves contain questions totally unlike anything similar to the class notes or anything in the text. 40 point exam curves. Stay away from this guy!

Well, he is not that bad. If you work hard and understand the material, you will do just fine in his class. By the way, he will trick you, so get use to it. All and all, I would rather take him than some good for nothing easy professor.
People, His exams resembles CPA Exams. Alot of tricks and traps. Read questions CAREFULLY!!!! Read everything from the book, PRACTICE, PRACTICE and PRACTICE. He is TOUGH but OK if you work REALLY, REALLY HARD like you are taking CPA EXAM. Agree, professor??
Mazzo's a nice professor. He's not too hard and makes things clear. Exam's just as expected. He tells you when he's trying to trick you. I didn't do so good on the midterm and missed a few classes, but I did ok on the final and he gave me a B. I'll probably have to take him again for 311 or 372 because it'll be harder to pass with Prof Simon.
Very smart professor, you will learn a hell of a lot in this class. Tells you what to look out for on the tests (tricks). Wants you to succeed and do well in the real world that's why he's so tough. Very well recommended if you want to learn, if your looking for an easy A then do not take him. You will have to earn that A in his class.

Mazzo, Mazzo, Mazzo.... if you're looking for an easy A this is NOT the class to take. The professor really knows his stuff and gives handouts and homeworks so that students can learn. His exams are killers, no matter how hard you study you wont get 100 but he does curve. Make sure you go to class, take notes and do the hw and you will be ok.
Took 2x classes with this prof, cost and cost II. He DOES care about students and wants them to pass- though he gives alot of work, and the tests are difficult. However, he gives handouts, is very open to questions and trys to make sure alot of students understand the material. Good professor, but no slouch.
Ok teacher, he knows his stuff but doesn't necessarily know how to explain the best, one person asked him to explain and he said "don't question it just do it this way" so it's hard to get a good understanding of a topic because you cant really get to the bottom of an issue. I found understanding the book more helpful than his lectures
He is not a good teacher,he does not review before an exam and that just sets you up for failure he beleives that you should think on your own and figure out the problem but in order to solve something you need to be taught how to do it. Also not organized all over the board and he has a speech impairment which makes it hard to understand him.
Mazzo's class is NOT easy but you will come out of his class with good knowledge to take into the real world. He WILL abuse you in class, and question your knowledge, but it will make you a better accountant. He is direct and at times very hilarious. Study the HW, and take notes p.s. if he doesn't go to the board, it means your answer is wrong =D
Prof Mazzo-amazingly smart prof. Tells you what you need. Explains well. Makes you work hard but even if you get grade C- you have learned great deal.His tests are tricky but if you study- you will do fine. Go to class- all tests come from his notes and knowledge. TAKE HIM and CPA is cake for you. highly recommend! Will take him for other classes!
you will have to study hard for a good grade, but it is advanced accounting so the subject is not easy itself, however; very good prof with big knowledge so you can learn a lot from him...but if you looking for easy grade this is not the class for you, and it is true that tests are tricky and a lot of homework which are very helpful for exams
Prof. Mazzo knows his staff. Might seem to be jumping around topics but does it to help students understand course. You don't have to attend his class but I would recommend. Its a hard class but Prof. Mazzo explains everything well. I got B in his class and worked hard. After his class you'll get a lot that will help you be successful. Recommended!
Difficult to say because he is a good teacher, but he just sets you up to fail. Tests don't cover everything in class. Projects are not covered at all except for poorly written handouts that amount to a good portion of your grade. Take him, but be warned.
I think he is good prof. in Accouting. he explian the detail things on the class. You can understand very well, but only take class is not enough. 311 is not a easy class, you should do the HW and take the class, as well as to do the review after. This is not an easy class and he says from the JUMP he tries to make his test hard, HOWEVER.. he does HUGE curves and gives extra credit. As far as clarity he does tend to jump back and forth but overall explains pretty clear.

Took him for 305 & 311. His teaching lacks clarity. Has a slight speech impediment & really bad jokes. In the end he curves A LOT & wants to pass everyone. 1 Midterm & 1 Final. HW is not collected & he goes over it in class. Exams are tough which is why he curves the final grades. I thought I was a goner but I passed both classes. TAKE HIM!
Professor, slow down and write clearer. This course is too intense to just be 2 credits. I think he goes fast bc the length of the class is shorter than regular accounting classes but probably more mathematical material. I didn't understand a thing, don't know how I passed. Take someone else. 3 exams, 1 extra credit project. Grades with 40 or curve

Makes you work for it. Despite that, he's a very knowledgeable professor. If you take this class, show up to every class, and you still have to earn the grade

Prof Mazzo does not use the text at all for anything. According to him the textbook is too complicated so he made up his own on paper with his horrible handwriting. He all over the place when he writes on the blackboard. Wish you luck understanding his handwriting. He starts with step 1 then jump to step 3 or 4 then goes back to 1.
Textbook is helpful. Study test banks throughout the semester. It's the only way to do well on his exams. Not the homework, and definitely not the in class exercises no matter what he says. Took him for Summer 2019. Study only test banks. Study the test banks during the semester. STUDY THE TEST BANKS.
took many professor who are rated like 2/5, still got perfect GPA, but not after this one. i dont know if i have a problem studying his materials, or he has a problem "teaching". in my opinion, he is the kind of professor who always thinks he is right. so if you are going to take it, be mentally prepared. and suck it up.
Some materials he provides are straight out of internet articles (including wikipedia and unreliable sources) and he read the articles for you. His other notes are handwritten illegibly. For essay part of his exam, he is unclear with his prompts and then blames his students for not highlighting specific area. He needs to be re-evaluated.

The worst prof. Not clear on exams nor lectures. Threatens students every class on how hard his class is and will fail anyone who reports him to the accounting department. He isnt clear on how he wants on his essay questions. Highest grade youll get is an B. Accounting department needs to fire this professor and hire a new one to teach Acct 748.

Mazzo is very knowledgeable in accounting. Only good thing I can say about him. Be aware that his tests are difficult, and some questions are from the CPA exam. Some exam topics were not even discussed in class. Additionally, he likes to go on a tangent and boast about his abilities.
The most painful class I've taken. Tests are impossibly difficult, the highest grade I saw on midterm was a 70. Tests are nothing like what he does in class. Incredibly demoralizing class, it's like he wants you to fail. Majority of what I learned from this class I taught myself. Take a different prof if you value your grades and mental health.

Other reviews are not exaggerating. He's a bad teacher, tests are nothing like the lectures. He insults students all the time because he thinks he's being funny. His 3 exams are 16 mc each, but they're still so difficult. His handwriting is literally unreadable. Unfortunately, he's one of like two 202 teachers at QC, which they need to fix ASAP.
I did not appreciate Professor Mazzo's overall approach to teaching which centers around demoralization of students. By his own admission, he purposely made tests as difficult as possible. I must say that learning is a sacred thing, and I feel that basic tenants of teaching and learning were disregarded by the approach employed by this Professor.
I'd just like to mention how difficult this class was. The professor would constantly mention how hard he likes to make the class, and then he would say "if you're struggling now you will really struggle in 311." But as I'm in 311 right now, I've found it much easier and I'm doing very well. I'm glad I didn't let this prof discourage me.

VERY HARD EXAMS!Don't be fooled this is an online class. His exams have nothing to do on what he teaches and grades them very harshly!! Your FINAL GRADE is based on ONLY MIDTERM AND FINAL EXAMS! I entered his class with optimism and left feeling like I wasn't capable. He doesn't go into detail when he teaches, you can't read his handwriting and his exams are nothing like what he even goes over in class. He says that it's open book but it doesn't do much justice.
