Tough professor, and a tough grader. Does not expect you to be anything less than highly prepared for class--a former judge, and it shows.
Demanding, knowledgeable, and supringingly compassionate, Professor Martin-Scott is the real deal: the kind of professor I hoped to meet in law school. I have the utmost respect for the woman.
Her exams suck b/c they are just tell me what you know about contracts, and if you don't define every frickin' term of art you're screwed. She's not very knowlegable when it comes to applying contracts to the real world.
She is hard and pushes you to do your best and think on your feet, but she is always willing to help, listen, encourage, and insure you understand. She is the kind of professor that I needed in law school.

Test was much harder then I expected. She loves students who come to class well-prepared, but does not have any patience with those who don't. Sets very high standards, but you can meet them if you work at it.
an absolutely amazing woman whom i aspire to be like. a woman. a judge. a mother. the poor reviews on here are the first negative things i have ever heard about her. cares about her students but makes sure they understand she is there to make them learn
Excellent professor. The bad review come from unprepared students. Explains topics well, and cares greatly about her students.
THE BEST professor for contracts! As a former judge, she knows how to explain the material in a clear and concise way and is always prepared for class. She also has an amazing sense of humor.
Great lady who made K I very interesting and did a great job expressing the material. Her final was a bit tough though. Obviously the bad remarks on here are from those who didn't do well in her class. Pay attention and she can teach u a lot. And she cares, which always is important.
She is a very interesting lady who takes a boring topic and tries to make it fun. She is very motivational and wants everyone to do well. She can be very intimidating at first, so BE PREPARED for class because if you're not prepared she will make sure the whole class knows it.

An excellent professor, highly recommended.
This professor is very helpful. She really cares about the student and how well they do. It is pretty obvious why she gets the teacher of the year award every year. This former judge knows the law and will teach it to you as clear as possible.
Awful, she would never meet with me and wouldn't even answer emails. Attitude toward students in the class was disgusting poking fun at individuals with physical limitations and emotional problems AVOID!!!!
good role model
The creme de la creme of the law school professor world. Few professors at this school could carry her bags as far as quality of teaching or real world credentials. If you dont get lucky with her for Contracts- take her for sales.
Easily the best K Prof. at Cooley. Extremely helpful and knowledgable. Only downside his her slightly annoying drawing out of certain sounds in her voice. If I had to retake K it would be with her.
She is excellent! I highly recommend taking her Contracts I or II class. She is very helpful and she will go the extra mile to make sure you understand the material before she goes on to another subject. He test is easy too. She has a great deal of respect for her students, which is a 360 from the way Mara Kent treats her students.
Took it as an elective -- glad I had her. She was absolutely wonderful. She was very encouraging and helpful. She knows her stuff and actually cares if you learn it.
This prof will meet with you and try her bet to help. She is so sweet and actually cares what is up with her students. Highly recommend her.
Helpful but hard to get an appointment with.
Prof. Martin-Scott cares more about her students than I've seen any other professor care. She's tough but fair. Highly recommended.
She is one of my favorite professors. Make sure you're always prepared for her class. She uses the socratic method which is generally intimidating for first termers. That aside, she makes contracts interesting. She also inspires!
This woman is brilliant...covered everything thoroughly, and obviously cares about our success. Requiring students to be prepared is not a bad thing: why are you in law school if you don't want to work hard? She'll inspire you to try harder than you thought you could. Highly recommended.
absolutely amazing, get ready for a great term with her!
She was a great professor, dont get discourage at the begining of the semester. DO practice tests!!! Meet with her to go over it!!! then you will get a good grade. Only one major problem, she only gave 1 A, other than that she is great, be prepared in class, meet with her she will help
Great professor, really cares if student gets the material and will help you one on one. The only teacher who could possibly convince me to take Sales (only if she is teaching it). She is a no nonense professor, but I think that is a good thing, keeps the class on track and expects you to be prepared. I would highly recommend taking her.
Cares so much about her students.. definitely make an appointment with her during the semester and to go over your blue book. She gives you great feedback and couldn't be nicer
She's one of the best Cooley has to offer. Makes 2-207 a breeze. Loved her teaching style and her motherly attitude. She loves teaching and she loves her students. Her exam is predictable and very fair. Highly recommend!!
She truely loved teaching and would bend over backwards to help students get a better understanding of Contracts. She demands a lot from her students but you don't mind because of the mutual respect that she instills in the class. I would take her for every class if I could. SHE KNOWS WHAT SHE IS TALKING ABOUT SO LISTEN TO HER!!
She is an awesome prof. She's clear, she's helpful, she reasonable, she's interesting... I don't have anything bad to say about her!! If you end up with Martin-Scott you're in luck. The exam is very fair even if the MCQs are a little tricky.
Believe everything positive you've heard about her. She's a gem.
Great teacher and easy to follow. Made K's a breeze. Fair final!
She was obsessed with 2.207 so memorize it until your eyes can't focus. If you are not prepared, get ready because she will grill you on the next class.
What a phenomenal woman! She explains things so well and really cares about her students. She is so interesting and smart. Her exam scared me just keep practicing your analysis of 2-207 and offer and acceptance. She doesn't grade too terribly hard. Take her if you can!
I have the highest respect for this professor. She is awsome!! She will not make the subject matter easy and does not spoon feed you but will make sure you learn the information. I only wish there were more like her. She is highly professional but gives you the respect you deserve. It was truely a honor to have her class.
Prof. Martin-Scott is tremendous. She is a subject matter expert and demanding of her students, refusing to spoon-feed material and forcing us to actually...think. It's amazing how much you realize that you learn when reviewing. Her verbal smackdown of the fools who downloaded Kent's slides to use in her class was great.
The best profe i had for my first semester at Cooley. Approachable, will give you the answer in a platter if you go and ask for it. My best advice, if you don't understand somthing go and ask her until you understand it, Exam are fair and grading too. do ur work and get rewarded!
VERY disappointed with this professor, not as a teacher, but as my advisor!!! She is an excellent teacher and I managed an A- in her course. As an advisor she's terrible. I tried to get a LOR from her and she ignored my emails and refused to even respond!!! At least have the courtesy to say NO, I don't want to do it! So I got it from Cox instead.
This professor was fantastic. I got an A- from really preparing for EACH class. She makes you do the work and you learn from it. Don't go into her class unprepared, she will nail you if you do. Do the reading, brief the cases and do the problems and you'll be successful! She is a wonderful professor and I learned Sales better than most classes I've already had!!!
Fantastic. Ignore her odd pronunciations and just bask in the glory. She knows her stuff and teaches well. One warning - Be prepared for class. If she calls on you and you are 1) stupid or 2) don't know your stuff she will straight up (figuratively) murder you. She cares about your success but will ruin your life if you waste class time.
I found that she treated students like they were in grade school. I really did not enjoy her class and I continue to be amazed by her popularity. Perhaps people enjoy being treated like a child- I personally don't.
Great teacher! Her exams are kinda hard but she gives points for literally everything. Best advice ever - write practice exams and meet with her. She'll tell you everything she wants to see.
Mable gives students more feedback than anyone else. If you do well, she tells you. If you do exceptionally well, she tells you. If you do terrible, she'll tell you. She's definitely one of the best profs the school has. There's no question of exactly what she expects from students both on the exam and in class. What else could you want?
LOVE her! Best Professor BY FAR. Explains everything perfectly and makes sure you understand. EXTREMELY approachable and very caring about student's understanding and ability to do good. HAVE HER KEEP HER DON'T HAVE HER THEN GET HER!!
One word - AMAZING. Anyone stupid enough to make bad comments clearly have not had pasman green. I could literally go on for days about everything that makes her great. She is halarious, but has a seriousness about her that made me almost feel the need to dress up to go to her class. Word of advice, never come to class unprepared!
The single greatest professor I have ever had.
She is great. Perhaps the best professor I have had thus far. I don't know my grade, or how she grades. What I know is this: she is professional, fair, honest and forthright. She tells you what you need to do, she gives you the info; and she expects you will do it. She lets you know when you have or have not. Expect a firm socratic method.
The last person hit in nearly head on. I was prepared the day I was called on to recite and still got smoked by her. I had a tough case though, so it was expected. She is smart, and a somewhat lenient grader. Come prepared and study early and you should pull off a B.
Martin-Scott is an amazing professor and human being. She is the best teacher at Cooley hands down. As long as you read the material, she will help you with the rest. She really cares about her students and their lives past law school. Take her for Sales, and if she's not offering it, wait until she is!
Extremely knowledgable of the material and helpful during/after class. Was confident going into the final, I could recite my entire outline from memory. Then I took her final. It was like I was taking another classes final. Afterwards everyone looked shell-shocked. She hosed us!! Like she was pissed at us when she wrote it! Completely dumbfounded..
She is a very good professor. She knows her stuff and knows how to deliver it in a way students will understand. At first, she appears intimidating but as the class progresses, you would realize that she is not intimidating. She is very helpful. Her handouts are especially very helpful. if you study all that gives you, you'll pass the class. I a
Professor is great. I had her for KII and the material was so clear. She is a true blessing. Whatever she teaches, Take her.
Favorite professor in law school. I had her for sales, which is my highest grade so far, but i worked very hard for it. Don't show up unprepared, and if you get the chance, take Sales with her.
Awesome! Take her if you get the chance!
Sad. under that suit and glasses is a whole new person. Do your sanity and education a favor and avoid her. She's crazy.
Scary. Especially when her voice changes...Stay away from this teacher.
Had so much passion and interest in commercial transactions – she took that away from me. This is not a professor. Not everyone in the class was treated equally. I definitely did not appreciate or like her whatsoever.
I am momentarily in her Contract class during the weekdays. She's awful...She spends more time switching to another side without even explaining things throughly...Def. I would not recommend this teacher...Something is just no right about her.
Certainly I did not enjoy this class. It was confusing at least she made things confusing. Questions were not answered and if answered she works her way around the question. I'm wondering if I even want to come back here.
At first sight, my thought was, she's professional, knowledgable. Two weeks later, I'm like, strange, but sh's nice. 14 weeks later, I'm scratching my hair tilting my head wonering if this is for real! Is this even a real law professr
Heavily involves standing up and speaking. It IS very difficult to understand her. Most of the time, the book is your only source of learning. She's somewhat nice..but she's not the right person for a law professor
Bad experience. Didn't learn anything. Lectures were had to pick up. definitely, I do not recommend nor I suggest you try out her class.
Definite in my answer, I was not happy with the class. the lectures are hard to understand--she incorporates personal stories that appear to be not relevant to what we're learning. She does not provide guidance or assistance. Most time, you ask for advise on the material, you do not get a response from her. Very different than most law professors.
Pure lecture, no writing assignments except mid-term. Didn't learn much in class. Talks too much about Dusty, her cat. It appear she lie a lot. Her personal stories are strange. How she thinks and acts in class is questionable.
Speaks way too fast. Very hard to grasp the lecture or her class; Yet, when time comes to ask questions, she ignores my e-mails.. Not sure about her. There's definitely better contract teachers than this one.
She is really bad. In the class, the textbook is your bible. You will not get anything from her. In fact, she provides no guidance or support. A lot of the e-mails were ignored. Brings up a lot of sad stories in her class from what happened before. She plays a good game.
Horrendous—she is nothing but a joke. She speaks too much in class about her cat and her experience as a “judge”… when in reality she was like an administrative referee. There are no words to describe this appalling experience.
She's funny and hyper-- She spends like three seconds on one concept and then starts making a counter-argument of something else--She will confuse the heck out of you. you really depend on the book to learn. She's not responive either.. so far it's not been the best of experience.
Quite frankly, she needs to improve in her presentation of class material, avoid constantly bringing up sad stories as a mean of appeal to emoition. Further, maybe quite playin the game. She's sneaky in her own little way. But her head is all the way the sky as a "law" professor.
"Apple for Apple" orange for oragne. Yet when you ask about the Appel you get the orange answer or ther gibberish. She refuses to answer questions via writing like e-mail. The book is clear on the material, but she will confuse you. She thinks she's doing you a favor by constantly switching sides.
Very straightforward class; she lets you know exactly what's going to be tested & gives you plenty of time to ask questions beforehand. Subject itself is dull, but at least you'll understand it. She's more than fair & there are no surprises.
I didn't feel as if she articulated key concepts clearly or provided a chain of reasoning between the cases and trying to understand it more clearly. She counter-argues in a heart beat, but we're still trying to figure out what's going on in the case!!
Professor Scott is a very professional professor. She teaches the material in very simple terms as long as you read and follow her ppts. She is very motivating and encouraging. She def. helped me get through my first year. Contracts is dry, but Prof. Scott attempts to keep you awake with her stories. No complaints! Just do the reading!
Her Lectures are so hideous and repugnant it’s not even funny. She repeats what we read in the book using the “Socratic method” and sometimes she barks whoa whoa whoa. Yet she’s popular on campus I hear. One more semester and I’m out.
Final exams are coming up, and I'm panicking. I wish I had a different professor. She is rude. Don't waste your time asking her a question, you will be ignored. She can't pronounce words correctly like case names and all she does is call on students to brief the case and then you'll get the strange noises. There goes my 4,000 dollars for class.
AVOID HER! She doesn't teach like you would expect from a professor. Sometimes, her African accent comes out and you can't understand her. You will walk out from her class all confused. If you do get registered in her class, you could drop and take something else like Torts or Criminal Law.
She is very helpful with understanding the concepts and is always willing to review outside of class. She has an outstanding background of skills and she repeats in class for students to become more familiar with the material. I succeeded very well in her class, and what she said would be on the final is valid. Overall she's a great professor!
Who can forget Mable, and her stories. Didn't u find it strange, on the day we did our teacher evaluations, she brought up stories of her daughter being taken to the hospital, but she ended up staying in the hospital for a week. (seriously). Or the time she went to the hotel and told staff needed a room with window because of emotional problems
Her exam essays were tough, and she's tough on giving points. She's very popular on campus--not sure why! I couldn't understand her lectures. She can't stay focused on one thing. I would definitely advice you to have someone else. I knew there was something just not right with her but seeing this here makes it clear. And yes you will be confused.
Rare, was I able to pick up on what she's saying. It was like, yes I read that, and? She presents herself in class as someone who made it big time, but can explain as opposed to recite the material. It looks like she sat in her office, all those years, memorized the material, but really, she can't teach. Waste of my time and money, taking her class
Can you say precedent? Poor Mable. I refuse to say professor. Bless your patience and sanity if you went through 14 weeks with her. I used to sit in class and wonder how she is standing there teaching. Sometimes, she tries to be funny, sometimes she brings up heart warming stories. If you get registered in her class, be nice to her.
Going through Contracts I with Scott is like watching a slow movie. You try to figure out what’s going on, feeling lost. Read the book and look at outlines. You really can’t learn from her. She is not your typical “professor”
she speaks too fast, constantly shifts from Article 2 to Common Law. Really does not teach, but recite what we read. Would I recommend her--no. She doesn't put effort to answer questions anyways.
I barely passed her class. Her exam was tough though. I didn't find her helpful. Not sure if teaching is her strength. She may know her stuff, but lecturing to law school students is probably not a good idea.
All this was a joke. I didn't know how she could be this popular on campus yet be this bad. Take a close look at all the students in the class--If you are in her class, sit all the way up front because you will be treated fairly.
Professor Martin-Scott is amazing, very intelligent and addresses the concepts you will see in everyday practice, yes of course if you don't pay attention and do your reading you will be lost, the same as any class or professor. However she goes above and beyond her duty helping you to retain the information through, drawings of the big picture etc
Very difficult professor. Difficult in understanding the lectures, answers to questions (when they are answered), constant shifts, personal stories that do not appear to be relevant. Hardly learned anything. I did not find her helpful in class.
Possibly the worst experience of my lifetime. Do not bother complaining. Her popularity on campus allows her to do what she wants and whatever she wants. And she has some way of justifying her behavior. She really doesn't know Contract Law, yes I agree with earlier comments. And yes, I did not find her helpful at all. Horrendous experience.
I was scared to come to class, but her hyperness and sillness made it easier for me to get by. She's not really smart. Not sure she really knows how to teach Contract Law. Overall, not the best experience so far. She's okay, but you have to study on your own.
Scary Expereince. Strange personal stories.
The textbook is your only source for learning. Her "lectures" will take you for a ride. Do your sanity and education a favor and indeed do avoid her.
She is nothing but a joke. Grades so tough, yet you wouldn't get anything from her. She does not provide any guidance or support. Does not answer questions. Refuses to answer questions. Constantly brings up sad stories especially on the day we submitted our evaluations. She is something.
Had her for Contract I and II. Mostly, I relied on outlines from the SBA and the book. I couldn't understand her. How she speaks distracted me. And she frequently talks about something not related to contract law whatsoever. I was always lost in her class. I didn't like her at all, but the school registered me in her class :(
I would say her class was more a comedy show than a lecture. She grades so tough. She refuses to offer guidance. She does not answer questions, well... The best advice I could give you is to stay away completely and as far as possible.
Good professor to get in your first term of law school. Assists students very well. Recommended
She was highly disorganized. Teaching is not her cup of tea. A lot of confusion, questions not answered, and when answered, it's questionable. She always has a story to appeal to your emotion especially on the day of evaluation. Avoid all this together.
Her mind is all twisted. Best of luck to you when your grades come out. She likes to be all over the map, so most students will end up getting a D or C-. Your best bet is to buy outlines from downstairs. Don’t bother asking questions, she will pretend she doesn’t see you. She’s something. She plays a good game in class. And she cant clearly talk
Yikes! Who is this lady? Her lectures are so hard to follow. She makes things more difficult and more confusing than it should be. The way she lectures is very strange. Very hard on giving out points. It has been a scary ride going through class with this professor.
It has been a scary experience. She's not very helpful. Why does she not answer questions? I easily got lost where I couldn't keep up with what she's saying. Sometimes, she goes off tangent with things and does not come back where she left off. Not sure about her at all. Not my recommendation.
You will see your final exam has notes on it and lines cross through it. And a C minus Nothing in her class went right. She stands in class and presents herself as someone bigger than life when she can't even speak clearly, does not answer questions, makes these weird noises in class. Brings up sad stories on day of evaluation for good reviews.
Awesome teacher. Defly not easy but if you put in the work, you'll see the results. Make sure you review your exams.
Had this professor for contracts, it was a nightmare. After each class session, I left more confused than when I came in. I expected things to be put in perspective during lecture, but all she does is nothing pretty much. She'll call on you to brief the case to waste time and then she'll make up a story from Mable's World and class is over.
Do not take her. She was not interested in making sure that the students understand the material. The exam was like nothing that we discussed in class. She is not a Teacher.
She gives good feedback on assignments and is available if needed. Her exam review was very quick, so don't go in expecting to get everything during her review.
it was the worst contracts 1 class. She doesnt answer email. Tests are very difficult and she's the worst professor I had at cooley. Don't take her for Contracts one. Very difficult to pass. It will mess up your GPA.
Best teacher I've had Cooley thus far. Looking at all the "poor" comments makes me think that people didn't prepare and didn't take the class seriously. She is always free to stay after and help students, and will always take extra time to help clarify a topic if she see's the class looks "lost." I would recommend taking this class and contracts II
Absolutely love her, shes an amazing professor! Highly recommend that ALL students take her. Shes incredibly helpful; always willing to going the extra mile to make sure students understand the material.
Yikes. Stay away from her.
I've been reading through these reviews and I do not understand how she has such bad reviews! MMS is great. If you need help, her door is ALWAYS open. I had her for contracts I and II and if you actually pay attention in class, you can easily get by with book briefing cases. Her cooky stories help a lot to get you to remember the material!
Very thorough Prof! If you pay attention to her lectures and take good notes you will be fine.
I heard professor Martin-Scott was great to have, but I did not benefit from her teaching style at all. The manner she lectures in is distracting and she doesn't explain the information in a way that makes sense. I was disappointed with her as a professor and I didn't get as much out of the class as I would have with a different professor.
Professor Martin-Scott is AMAZING she changed my life. I had her for the fall 2023 semester for contracts. She has motivated me to be the best law student and person I could be. She is so compassionate and TRULY CARES about her students passing and ensuring her students succeed. I am looking forward to taking another class with her.
Professor Mable Martin Scott is incredible! She made contracts law clear and engaging and truly cares about her students' success. As my externship supervisor, she's been patient, supportive, and gives great feedback. One of the best professors and mentors I've ever had—highly recommend!
