The good thing is she doesn't make you write any papers. Just read stories and take quizzes mostly. I made "A"s and "B"s throughout her class and ended up with a "C" at the end. Her grading is weird, but she is a good teac

I'm an English tutor, and I got a C in her class. I hated her. I hated everything about her class. Her grading is ridiculous.
I make my best grades in English and even advanced straight from high school to 102, and I thougth that her grading was extremely strange! She gave me a C despite the fact that my essays contained everything she required of us.
She's an awesome teacher. If she does give you a C on a paper, she usually tells you what you could do better. She's very helpful and you can ask her questions about the paper or material you are working on. This class was easy.
She made me replace words like "adament" & other "big" words because she said "no one uses those words too often & so it sounds akward"! ... WHAT??!!! Isn't the point of an English class to learn to broaden your knowl
I hated that woman!! When i took her, it was my second time taking 102. She failed all of my papers, and now i am in 102 again. She is a very pretty lady, but looks can be decieving. She would scratch out my words, and say that they were a bad choice.WTF?
I believe that she is a bad teachear because she is not motivated. She is too smart to be teacing sucha *^#@^* class.
If you don't think her way, you don't think at all!!!!! Good Luck!
She completely****s all the meaning from being an Eng.prof.at a UNIVERSITY! We should be ENCOURAGED to ellivate our lang!-not dumb it down! We should get extra pts for using scarecely-used academic words, rather than being asked to replace them with words that are more on the elementary side. dumb.
She is an awesome teacher, very motivated and eager to help. However, you get what you put into this class. Give it your all and you will do well. Mrs. Cagle is a very nice lady.
This lady was very hard to please!!! She makes a student feel as though they can't write. She does offer a great deal of help, but she is a very hard grader. She doesn't understand that it is the student's paper and not her paper.
Goes against what you are taught in the WAC lab, wants all papers done in HER point of view, has an elementary grasp on her material... very bad teacher. She would be well suited for 2nd grade grammar courses.
I loved her. She is very eager to help. She is very clear on what she wants in her papers and often reads examples. She motivates you to do well. GO TO THE WAC LAB. She gives bonus points for this and is worth it.
grades ridiculously hard/ horrible teacher makes students feel stupid she knows everything you know nothing Do NOT Take her!!!
Mrs. Cagle is not a hard teacher. She does help her students out with their essays. Plus, she will even write things in for your essay. She gives EASY QUIZZES. Go to the WAC Lab for extra points, make sure you read the novels. The novel tests are easy too.
She is the worst teacher EVER!!!!! She gave me a D - -....she could of just of given me the F+. Would of made me feel better! She even told me that I was a horrible speller! She loves to use her red pen! PLEASE take anyone else or take english somewhere else if she is the only teacher left!
Very nice and helpful teacher. Her class is a challange, do the work to the best of your ability and you will get the grade you deserve. She grades kind of hard, go to the WAC lab it helps.
Ms. Cagle is not easy to work with! She grades extremely hard! If it is not her way-its wrong. I recommend taking another teacher for English classes.

this woman is the WORST teacher EVER!! seriously, take someone else, get out of her class!!!! my grandmother has been teaching english/language arts for 35YEARS, and she helped me revise EVERY essay, and i STILL made like 40's on essays..shes crazy..watch out..
grades her essays extremely hard. novel tests and quizzes easy. workload isn't too much. but essays are 25% each of grade and tests like only 5%.
It is a bit ridiculous when I, an English tutor in one of the writing centers on campus, receive a C in an English class. The woman is a witch. Take someone else.
I was never quite sure what she wanted. She graded hard and showed little mercy.
I actually liked Mrs. Cagle. Although I'm an English major, I didn't find her class horribly hard like some people make it sound. You have to work hard. She doesn't "GIVE" A's. You have to earn them. She deservese some credit. She's truly a nice lady, and she's super intelligent. I'd take her again.
You definetly will earn the grade you make. If you are a person that tries hard and attends class, she will see that and help you when your grade needs helping.
in this class you will earn what you get, although one of my essays i received a d (69) where as i was one of the few to ask questions i feel that i should have received a c. i finished with an c and believe me she pulled it out of me. she tends to teach as though you know it already when hello it is a freshman couse.
She is crazy. Every word on my essay was marked as awkward. She shows no mercy. She is helpful and trys to help you, but she expects a lot from you in return.
Please be honest with yourself. If you are at all stupid don't take this class. When in doubt, go ask someone if they think you're stupid just to be sure. You will fail if you are NOT bright. If you cannot write compelling essays, then run. You will feel like a genius if you get a good grade. I got a B, but I worked my tail off for it. Risk!
from an english comp stand point she is a great teacher. very open to dicussions and gives plenty of time to write the many papers you have to write. although she is opinionated and grades tough. but the grades are the grades. very helpfull. and her being hott helps make the class a little better. recommended for the strong minded.
She can be your best or worst teacher. If your essays completely blow, you won't do good. She is very hard, but if you can write she will make you a better writer.
She had the most interesting essays to write and she was so helpful in getting you to really feel about the issue you were writting about
She is super sweet!
She lets you bring your paper up to her during every class and tells you exactly what to change to get a good grade. Although I'm a good writer, almost every one of my papers I did the night before and still made nothing lower than a B. If you are a bad writer then it will show in your grade. She will however do her best to turn you in to one.
I enjoyed the class because of her laid back approach. I did not like how she graded the essays, and I believe she could be clearer, but overall i liked her class and would recommend her to anyone.
This women is the worst teacher I have EVER had. She grades really hard and is very inconsistent with her grading. She gives you time to write your paper in class so that you can ask her questions, she'll tell you that it looks okay to her, and then she turns around and will give you a D on the paper. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!!!!!
Nice lady and very helpful...grades pretty hard but gives the grade deserved
Her class was pretty easy. Most of the semester you'll spend time working on essays. She does grade pretty hard but is always ready to help however she can. REMEMBER TO GO TO WAC LAB!! The points help out a lot!
She was a very helpful teacher. Grading was a bit hard but she is always willing to help you bring your next essay up a grade! TAKE HER....she will make you into a great writer!!!
This is a GREAT teacher. She is very helpful and explains everything thouroughly. If you go to class and pay attention to her talking, even though it may seem boring, she tells you exactly what she is looking for in a paper. My first essay was an "A". I was actually very shocked because the class average was a "D". I strongly recommend her.
If you are greek don't take her!!! I think she is very biased against us. I went from having no problem in english to having a lot of problems! If you don't think the way she does you don't make the grade. DON'T TAKE HER!
she is wayyyy too picky, and she grades extremely hard. she's never satisfied, ever. DO NOT EVER TAKE HER!!!!!
this teacher is very hardddd. she is also predijudice. (not in a racial way) she just doesn't like students that have there own opinions and ideas. please take another teacher!!!
grades harder then what the class deserves
I thought she was very helpful. I was going through a lot while I took her class and she was very understanding and accommodating! If you show her that you want to do well, she'll help you as much as she can!
If you are a good writer you will probably be fine. If you don't like english she probably isn't the one for you. She does look over papers and give advice, but will often still mark it off after you do what she says. She is a very nice lady who will help if you ask. I recommend her for 101 more than 102
Do. Not. Take. This. Woman. You will get excited about your essays, thinking you did well, and then when you get them back you wont get higher than a B... if you are lucky. Nothing is good enough for her. Nothing. In all my highschool years, writing essays is what helped me pass. I'm getting D's in this class.
Mrs. Cagle is a very nice lady. Even if you like how you write....the only way you are going to get an A is if you write how she wants you to write. It really not that hard just go up and ask her if your essay is going in the right direction. (she loves vivid detail) Go to the writing center! She gives bonus points...I would take her again.=)
DONT TAKE HER!!
She tries to be nice but she has some bad points. She grades really hard and when you ask questions she turns it around to embarrass you.
She is obviously a very intelligent woman. She is very helpful, but grades hard. She tells you everything she requires for the paper, but you still have to put forth a lot of effort to make higher than a C. I had her for 101 as well and made an A in the course. She is NOT prejudiced. ONLY TAKE HER IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN BEING A BETTER WRITER!
She is a great teacher. Attendance is definatly needed, because you don't know what helpful info you might miss. Don't buy the book!!!! you will not need it. Her essays must be written HER WAY, or NO WAY! you must explain everything to the T or you will fail. That and grammatical errors are everything. you will only write papers, no tests.
Mrs. Cagle is wonderful. You will have journals due for every story. Her test are easy and she is a very nice lady!
I've had Mrs. Cagle for English 101, 102, & 255. She's definitely the best English teacher/professor I've had. She does grade hard, but she's very helpful if you ask. She thoroughly explains what you should do to improve your paper. She offers bonus points if you go to the writing center. She uses the textbooks she assigns, so definitely get them. Go to class, read, do the homework assignments & you should be fine. She is the best!!
I skipped English 101, and her class was rather easy to me. There were only three to four papers for the whole semester, i was able to finish the main project in a week.
Ms. Cagle is a wonderful teacher and has a true passion for what she teaches. She's a bit difficult when it comes to grammar because the littlest things are points off. Get on her good side and ask for help. She's wonderful when it comes to helping. Put DETAIL in every paper you write. SHE LOVES DETAIL AND METAPHORS.
Her class is very easy as long as you pay attention to her directions and read the stories. She, on the other hand, enjoys hearing herself talk and seeing her handwriting on the board. If there is another professor that you heard was a good one to take, take them.
She takes a class that should be extremely easy and gives assignments that do not have clear instructions and are graded with extreme difficulty. I am an English major, and I found her grading to be unnecessarily hard. And, if you ask her to clarify her directions or any questions about tests or assignments, she makes you feel very stupid. Avoid!!!
Definitely knew what she was talking about, but graded VERY hard.
She was a great teacher, maybe a little bit tough but it wasn't to bad. We did many writing assignments which wasn't a surprise to me because that's what you basically do in college English. I would recommend her to anyone because she was willing to help any students that asked for her help. She also wasn't to strict when grading of our papers.
If you have to take this class for your major, I feel sorry for you. She seems nice and sweet, but she is a totally two-faced when it comes to grading. She never explains what is going to be on the test even if you ask, she'll say study everything. She takes off for spelling and yells at you when you ask a dumb question.
She is extremely biased. By the time she is done correcting your paper, it won't even look like you wrote it. Everything has to look exactly like she wants it, even if it is completely unnecessary.
I highly suggest not to take this teacher. She will tear any paper you write apart. Also, she is not specific with her directions on certain assignments. And she will also loud cap you in front of the whole class. Most importantly, never be late because she will not tolerate that. Even by a minute.
You can pass her class as long as you go to class and do the work. She isn't exactly easy but she's much better compared to most English professors. Get to class on time and check moodle often. She doesn't like to repeat herself but if your unsure or need more clarification, then she is more than willing to help. Overall, she is a good teacher.
She will fail you if you miss class more than three times. Cagle is a tough grader who takes points off for everything. However, she is very specific with what she wants for papers and will give you a guideline. I wouldn't recommend her if you don't like writing. She does give good feedback if you listen to her and she gives extra credit on papers.
She is an extremely tough grader especially when it comes to grammar. She wrote on two of my papers that my content and development is B material yet I received a a 55 and a 65 on them. I think she is an OK teacher and cares about her students but she shouldn't be teaching 101 she expects Junior level papers form Freshmen.
I've taken her for ENG 212. It's not the most difficult class, but you definitely have to work for your grade. The novels that we had to read weren't bad at all, as they were fairly short; however, her tests were extremely detailed, so you have to pay attention to every little part of the novels. She grades really tough, especially on grammar.
I had to take this as my English Literature class- online. It was an enjoyable class, and she posted a lot of solid sources and notes for us to learn. We had tests/quizzes, not so bad and you were able to do them open book, but when it came down to the papers, she grades very tough. I ended up with a C on my final that I thought deserved an A
Enjoyed the class
Wrote a bunch of essays, but she gave good feedback for you to improve next time. Don't use any cliches, she will mark off. but overall, a good instructor.
Cagle does a wonderful job of teaching ENG212. There is a lot of reading, however it is all children's literature and you can read each book in a night or two. Make sure you actually read though (DON'T rely on sparknotes). Her quizzes are very easy, but very detailed (to see if you read the story or not). No essays, only one 400 word paper.
Mrs. Cagle was a great English 101 teacher. I really learned a lot from her. However, she grades hard and is very biased when it came to papers. Expect to do a lot in her class too. She didnt like letting the class out early, she rather you sit there and do nothing the whole class period. Also she gave us a paper during thanksgiving break
Mrs. Cagle is truly a kind woman and if you show up to class and TRY as hard as you can... she will see it and will grade you accordingly. USE THE WRITING CENTER. I used the writing center for every paper that I had to write for her... and my last paper ended up being a 100% A!!!! SHOW UP to class, go to writing center, and show her that you care!
Amazing! Don't listen to the people that are giving Cagle a bad rep. Why do they rate her low? It's because they can't write; therefore, she's a "bad" English professor because she grades them accordingly. I had her for 101 & 102, and she made me a better writer. It's quite simple: if you can't write & don't care to learn, then take someone else.
I had Prof. Cagle for Children's and YA Lit and I loved her. She assigns 5 books over the course of the semester to read, but they're all either children or young adult books that can be read in a day or 2. She does assign smaller reading assignments also, but they're all really easy. Study her notes and do your homework and the class is an easy A.
She was a great professor, but quite a tough grader. Take advantage of helpful tools such as the Writing Center when writing papers.
I have not dealt with an English teacher who grades so harshly. I spent hours writing her essays and still scored poorly. I looked at my classmates' scores and wondered how can they have a very high score whereas I struggle to pass. I thought my writing was great, but she made me think otherwise.
Would not recommend! She is a very tough grader and is so unclear about her criteria for grading. If you struggle with writing I would highly recommend another professor!
If you miss a day and email her about it she won't answer. Go to her office she's barely there. In class she isn't clear with her instuctions on papers. Grades very hard no one made higher than a low C on papers
Future students if you have her as a Professor request a transfer or drop the class at once! She has impossible standards, is extremely biased, doesn't tolerate being a minute late or any absences no matter the reason, and loves to shame students for using the bathroom, having accommodations, struggling, or having different opinions. AVOID HER!
Shes a nice woman but shes extremely strict. You cannot be tardy or late at all and she doesnt accept any late work. You will always have an assignment due the next class and you will have to present everything in front of the class. Her book quizzes are extremely detailed. Dont reccommend her
She is a very tough grader. If you get your paper back always expect to make lower than a C. There are professors at Nicholls who are willing to help make you a better writer. I suggest taking a different professor because there is a guarantee that you have to take this course again. She expects you to write like you are very advanced.
Im an A student and would not recommend Cagle. She assigns easy reads, but her quizzes are very detailed. Even though I read the books, I did not get an A on any of them! There is only one, 400 word literary analysis due. Keep in mind a mid-term and final that is worth 25% of your grade each. If terms are not spelled correctly, you get points off!
Ive never made anything lower than an A on my high school papers. I could barley make a B on her essays she assigned. If you miss more than 3 classes she fails you. wouldnt recommend
Ms. Cagle was very helpful during writing assignments.
If you have prior experience writing lengthy essays, you will be fine. She is a difficult grader if grammar and content is not a strong area for you. She is willing to help if you go up to her - she will not go up to you. I highly suggest going to the writing center as well for more help. She awards bonus points for going.
She wants *everyone* to participate in discussions and state their own opinion. Whenever she says to read something for next class, there will be a quiz on it. She is very particular about what she wants, but she is also open to different perspectives/ideas. It is somewhat a lot of reading, but each story is short so it's not bad.
She can be a bit intense at times. If shes not interested in the topic of your paper, it will be reflected in your grade.
She's the type of teacher that means well and will like you if you are constantly asking questions and getting her opinion on things. Although if you missed her class there was no way she was gonna help u figure out what ya missed even during covid she still said there is no excuse for missing.
She has a very nasty attitude. She doesn't explain her paper really good and expect you to write like you are an English major. She also has a problem if you walk into class late and expects you to stay in even though she will still marks you absent. She will make you feel like she doesn't like being there.
She is a tough grader but an amazing professor. Attendance matters in this class and she would give great feedback on essays if you asked. She only had maybe 1 or 2 quizzes and the rest was all essay. She allows bonus points if you go to the writing center for the class. Highly recommend this class but it's not an easy A. Good effort is required.
Cagle is a VERY tough grader, but she means well. Attendance matters for this class. She gives awesome feedback on papers, only if you ask her. She awards bonus points if you go to the writing center, so that helps tremendously! Good effort is required for this class, not an easy A, but getting an A is possible.
Awesome class and professor!
Learned a lot that will affect how I raise my future children. Had to read a lot of children's stories and annotate them for class. Everyone must participate briefly for a grade. Only had three essays which were not graded too harshly. Worst part was having to print everything out. Midterm and final were scary. Had to read 2 books for class.
Had her for Eng 101 and 102. Definitely one of the more stricter/traditional teachers, but looking back she pushed me to become a better writer. Gives great feedback on paper, and is always willing to help if you put in the effort.
She has a very strict attendance policy and the class is very discussion/participation heavy. The books she uses are good, but you are REQUIRED to print everything you need for class because she doesn't allow any devices.
She is very interested in her subject, take note how many classes she manages per semester. This means fewer announcements (READ THE SYLLABUS WEEKLY). She is usually there during office hours & sometimes forgets to post information. Children's Lit requires a lot of printing, she wants long stories (12pg) printed for class!
Challenging but rewarding class. Professor Cagle is a tough grader, but provides valuable feedback. Using resources like the Writing Center and Unstuck ai helped me improve my writing skills.
There's a schedule on canvas, but there's instances where you have an assignment and she posts it on canvas, but not on the schedule. Didn't respond to email when I tried to make up an assignment that wasn't on the schedule, and gave me a 50/100 when I turned in said assignment. So take this class if you're willing to stare at canvas all day long.
At the beginning of the semester, she took a few days to respond to emails. Grades essays on very minute details. She gives homework assignments the class period before they're due (excluding essays). Attendance is very important. Make sure if you miss someone tells you what you missed.
Absolutely everything has to be printed, and any time I tried going to her office hours she wasn't there
