Good class, great teacher.
pay attention to lecture and read cases
One of the best professors at SDSU. Insightful, interesting, and very sharp. Nice person, talk to her at office hours for fun. If you study you'll do well.
Must do the reading and attend lectures to pass! Smart teacher that can teach you alot. Grades hard and is opinionated but very up on things. Better write a perfect paper with CITATIONS!!
Super easy attend class and participate and you'll get an A. Do breifs w/ her in class.
Great Class. Tests are mainly on lectures. Very interesting.
very good teacher, knows a lot. test are based on class lectures, readings help but not a must. paper is ok, make sure to follow all of her instructions, don't copy & be sure and site.
She is one of the best teachers I've ever had. She's super intelligent and well spoken. A very interesting class - can't pass unless you go to class!
Very interesting class, prof has lots to say but never boring. Do your reading and keep up on current events...you'll do well! She's brilliant.
Easy class. Recommend Summer. I don't remember writing any papers, never read text. Got an A. Tests based on lectures
Great person, no need to read the text. Go to class and take good notes. One 9 pager 3 tests. Definetly one of the better professors at SDSU.
Great Teacher, you really learn a lot in class.
Exams are from lectures so you must attend class. She is very interesting (you won't be sleeping through any of her lectures). Only advise would be to write fast when you get your exams so you don't lose points for not finishing.
BRILLIANT, she and Farid Abdel-Nour are the two best profs in our dept.
Very nice lady. Her lectures are interesting and she leads good descussions. She takes attendance, but going to class is enjoyable. Definitely recommend.
An okay class. Thinks that we are first year law students though on her tests. Way to many court cases to learn!!!
cool professor...she knows her stuff...very interesting class...must attend though or you'll be lost...highly recommended
She is the most intelligent teacher that I have ever had. Class is easy as long as you go to class and pay attention. Everything is in the lectures.
REALLY good teacher - 90-100 is an "A". Listen to the lecture and take good notes. Tests challenging but if you study notes you'll do great. show up to class. she's organized and makes it really interesting.
Excellent teacher.
awesome class! easy if you study and attend majority of lectures. notes are on blackboard, very easy.
She is a great teacher. Go to Lecture. Based on Two easy opinion papers and three large tests. Go to class because you are always interested in the lecture. Very current and up to date.
don't think you need the book for this class. good lectures, doesn't show much of a slant. tests are pretty simple, study and you'll ace.
very smart teacher, very interesting class. dont need to open the book once, just go to class. even that wasnt bad because it wasnt early (11am) and her lectures are very pertinent andd interesting. I would highly reccomend this class.
Energetic and extremely intelligent professor. Wonderful and entertaining class. Highly recommended!
This class was pretty interesting. She talks pretty fast but besides that you can actually go to lecture without falling asleep. She is extremely knowlegeable about the subject and gives out outlines that really help you on the tests. Based on 3 tests and 2 papers.
Lectures are boring and tests are a little hard, but she's an okay professor. Depending on my final exam grade, I'll have an A or a B, and I never bought the book...
An extremely good teacher. She knows the material from top to bottom. Very interesting stories about the material she lectures on that pretain to current events. Easy class if you go to the lectures and talk additional notes. Note outlines are on blackboard.
she lectures very well, although she may speak sort of fast sometimes. i like her. the class itself starts off very boring and picks up toward the end of the semester, just dont complain about the already easy tests. thats just not cool.
She is extremely intelligent about the topic, and very interesting. She has good outlines, just go to class and take good notes. I really enjoyed her class and I would recommend taking her!
Great teacher! Highly recomended. A easy class if you go to every lecture and take additional notes on the notes she puts on blackboard. I have the us government and california politics book you need for the class so contact me at [email protected] if you want to buy it!
awesome teacher! she is very intelligent about the subject she teaches and helped me to realize why I am a political science major. i would highly recommend her class. I learned alot from her and had a fun break out session to go along with the class.
Lectures were pretty boring, but straight forward. She made outlines of lectures available on blackboard. Pointless to buy book unless you really don't understand something or don't attend lecture. Class consists of 2 essays, 2 midterms, the final, and attendance/participation in discussion.
great teacher, knows a lot about subject. lectures are very interesting. go to class pay attention, take some notes and you'll get at least an A-! get in good with your ta, they kick ass and grade everything. take this class
Nice woman, easy class. Lectures are kinda boring, but you really don't need to go cuz she posts notes on blackboard. Don't bother buying the book, you'll NEVER use it. Tests are fair, everything on the outlines are on the tests. Occasionally she'll test on material only covered in the lectures.
Nice teacher, cool subject... HARD tests. Two papers throughout the semester on current event articles (relatively easy). Go to your TA session in ADDITION to lecture and you should be solid.
nice teacher and not boring. if you went to class and read the book, you would be fine. the current event papers are easy. dont slack on reading though!!!
Nice teacher but require extra work. Also need do good on exams if not have to do better on final.
best ever. she is so nice, very knowledgeable, lectures are very clear, gives outline, entertaining. i never read book and i got A. tests are challenging but she makes it easy to do well. go to class for the entertaining aspect, she has lots of cool facts and stories
Professor is brilliant. Gives clear and intersting lectures and provides outlines of all test information. Study the outlines and go to class and review session with TA and its a solid A.
McCall made this such an interesting class. She knows so much about politics and tells you everything she can to make it exciting. Great professor, easy class as long as you go.
good teacher, knows what she is doing. does require a lot of work..should go to as many lectures as possible and do well on the tests. she is very nice if you need help or have a question. great teacher overall
best poli sci teacher ever!!!!
Nice teacher but require extra work. Also need do good on exams if not have to do better on final. All because she is the pre-law advisor.
As a person, Madhavi McCall is awesome. She's nice, fair, & willing to listen to your interpretations just like Carole. While she's obviously very liberal, she does not make conservatives feel unwelcome. The books are useless & tests are challenging. 8-10 PAGE RESEARCH PAPER COMING YOUR WAY THOUGH!
Excellent!! Madhavi McCall and Carole Kennedy are the best professors in the department so far. I Regret it but it is so true and I love it!
I really enjoy professor McCall, though she is the pre-law advisor. Be careful her final is cummulative & not to mention it's mostly essay questions so watch out when it comes. Other than that, her exams and case paper were meant to be challenging b/c you must struggle a lot even if you have a choice. Still you will love Madhavi McCall.
You can know all the material, all the cases 100% and still end up with a B! How? Misleading and confusing prompts on the exams! The tests do NOT accurately measure your knowledge & understanding of the material. Imagine getting a B not because you don't know it, but because the question you answered on the exam wasn't the one in her imagination!
Great Prof! Would recommend to anyone! She's fair and very intelligent. Knows her stuff and passes it along greatly! Best teacher by far at SDSU's Poli-Sci Dept. You wont regret taking a class from her if you like to work hard!
Do not take this class unless your life depends on it!!! She expects everyone to already know everything about poli sci class! But if you can, she's yours!
Much too difficult to be a GE. She really knows her stuff but expects her students to as well. This class really killed my intrest in Political science. Averages on tests were around 60's and she doesn't curve just to give you an idea. She tries to cram way too much into her lectures.
If you are looking for an easy 'A', professor McCall is not for you. I think that Dr. McCall is very intelligent and teaches the course very well. Her extensive knowledge in the field is amazing. The tests are difficult, but they are not hard just to be hard. She puts in a lot of time in presenting the information, and she expects you to learn.
she is a very intelligent teacher and has fairly clear lectures. her tests are a little challenging but you dont need to do the reading and you can still get an A if you go to lecture. final is cumulative but if you did well on the first tests it shouldnt be a problem. i would recommend her if you actually want to learn something about the subject
Excellent teacher. Really knows her subject and makes class enjoyable. Her tests are not too difficult as long as you pay attention in lecture and read the notes from her lecture then you will do fine. I highly recommend Professor McCall.
She is amazing. She knows her material so well. her lectures were alawys interesting. Tests require a little work on your part. If you go to lecture and take notes you'll do fine. She just test to make sure you really understand the material. She was a great professor. She knows her****. Awesome class with relevant information.
McCall is a good teacher, but her tests are pretty hard. As long as you do good on ur papers and attend lecture u'll do fine. The final is comprehensive, but it's ?s off the first 2 midterms that she gives back 2 u...study all the lecture notes and you're fine-don't read the book it's a waste of time no matter what she says. memorize lecture notes
Very good professor. She is very clear and knows her material really well. Don't need the book, I bought it but didnt open it once. Just study all lecture notes. Tests are difficult, study before the tests and you will be fine.
she really knows her material and is eager to share it. her class requires you to go to lecture and write papers. the papers are no promblem, but the tests are pretty detailed and hard. go to your break out group, do you papers and pay attention in class and you can get a by pretty easily, out weighing any difficult tests. dont buy the book.
if you're good at memorizing vocab, this is the class for you. you definitely have to go to class & take good notes with the outline cause that's all the tests are on. don't buy the books! you only need one pg fr the book so just borrow it fr someone (the legislative process pg). the tests are mult ch/short answ which are usually vocab definitions
3 Tests, 2 Papers. Pos: Lectures are very interesting, she is very informed on topics. Neg: Her tests are way hard, I studied my ass off and got a B- in the class. You mess up on one test and there goes an A if you wanted one. You'll enjoy class, but make sure to STUDY.
this class is super easy...take notes on the lecture and you will do fine on the tests and in the class.
Easy class with easy tests even though she makes them sound hard. never even read the book and got a B+. its a lot of review from high school. her voice is sometimes hard to understand but overall a good profesor.

She was the best teacher I ever had. I took three classes with her. Her classes are very difficult. Her lectures are interesting. Take good class notes- I studied mostly from notes.
HARD TESTS, even in the SUMMER. UH OH & OH NO!
If you are not a poly sci major and don't have much interest in the subject, do NOT take her class! Her tests cover a ridiculous amount of information and I had to work much harder to get a B in her class than I have to get an A in any other class. Stay away!
Do your case briefs weekly or you will be screwed!!!!
I loved her stile of teaching. She has challenging, but fair, exams. The class was interesting and not boring. I would definately recommend this class to anyone interested in Law and the Political System. I took the class as an elective and I don't regret it.
Her class was really challenging, but it was one of my favorite classes. You obviously need to bust your butt to do well, so dont take this class if you want an easy A or if you have a full load. She is a great professor because you walk away from class a lot smarter than when you started the semester... and she's pretty hilarious.
she is a great professor and always willing to help. she requires a lot from her students but the class is extremely interesting. don't take her if you want an easy class.
Dr. McCall is may favorite teacher at state! She is super coolm and you will learn so much in her class. she explains everything fully in class. The class definatley is a lot of work, but as long as you do all your briefs each week you are fine. Took all 3 of her con law classes and LOVED them all! Thanks Dr. Mccall
Do not buy the book!! All test questions come from her lecture notes. Break out session was mandatory, but completely useless. I hope you are good at memorizing!!! Final is comprehensive.
Very difficult course. Breakout sessions were mandatory, but did not help at all. Exams were very detailed, she spoke fast during lectures and the final was cumulative!
She did an ok job covering a vast topic with many difficult sections. however, she doesn't do the grading, the TA's do; and if you get a retard TA like i did you will not learn anything, nor will you review well for the tests. JOSH SIERRA(TA) is a complete moron and does not know anything in the field of political science. Change TA if you get him
SHE IS AWSOME! What she says in class is on the test. If you read your notes after classes and study a week before the test, you will be fine. She is so interesting to listen to. If you go to class you don't have to read the book at all. The break out suck, but it is only 50mins once a week and you have to go. Unfortunatley she is gone til fall 08.
Her lectures were cool she had really random funny facts about our political world. The tests aren't hardcore just study the reviews. Go to your small sections and you'll be fine.
She is Wonderful. It is so interesting and she is so engaging. I am taking more of her classes. Tests are kind of hard, but she makes it easy to remember the court cases. I would recommend her to anyone who wants to go to Law School or anyone who is really interested in Politics or Public Policy! I love her
Very interesting class and I learned a lot from her. If you want to learn about the law and how it interacts with society and politics, this is the class to take. Consists of two midterms, a final, and five 2 page papers dealing with the law and current events (really easy).
This was my second class with professor McCall. She is very clear and knows her stuff. She never needs notes.. its all in her head. Her tests are hard if you dont study and learn your cases. Keep all your legal briefs and keep up in the cases so that you can get all your participation points. I am planning on taking her capstone next semester :-)
I was worried this class would be too hard, but as long as you read and take notes in class, which are easy to follow, you'll do fine. 2 midterms and a final. also four 2page current event articles. the tests are mc, short answer, fill-in, and essay. I loved her. she is an amazing teacher and super nice.
I never opened my book once and got a decent grade. I imagine getting an A would be pretty easy, she is a very clear teacher and not boring which is most important.
Great teacher. She really pushes you and changes every perception you had of the courts. By the end of the class, my entire mind was in pain over the things she turned upside down in my head. Great class, def. recommend. Oh btw, I found her veerrry hot!
Attendance is mandatory because she will call on people to present their briefs. If you do your briefs on time, attend ALL classes, and begin studying at least a week in advance you will do great and learn a lot. (I got an A)
By far the best teacher in the political science department if not in all of state. She is brilliant and really makes you want to come to class to learn. Her tests are not that bad as long as you study her outlines and learn the material. I love her classes and continue to take more of them.
Great class and professor. Does not use book a lot but relies more on lectures so attendance all of classes! Final is cummulative and includes 2 essays! I def. recommend anyone to take a class with her. She might be a little tough but it is worth it.
Expects A LOT from you in this class. She does not understand this isn't law school and that we do have other classes. Tests are HARD mostly short answer. Class can be interesting but more busy work than anything. I would not take her again.
So smart and funny
Class is really challenging. You brief about 10 cases per week. There's two midterms and a cumulative final. If you are interested in going to law school I strongly recommend this class. She's an amazing professor!
Loved her class! Her teaching is so engaging. Attendance is not mandatory but her tests consists mostly on her lectures. 2 midterms, 3 court cases summaries, and 1 final. Seems hard at first, but definitely do able. Take her!
McCall was great! Challenging class, need to keep up with the case briefs, 3-5 per class. TAKE LECTURE NOTES. Tests are straight from lecture. Two midterms one final, final is mostly a long in class essay. Interesting, engaging, you have to work but it is SO worth it! Doesn't take attendance but will call random names for participation. Great prof!
I shall not lie, this class is hard. If you're taking 3 other classes, I'd recommend you look for a different course. You have to do the work (approx. 5 case briefs a night), attend class, and take lecture notes in order to do well on the exams. The exams are hard and specific. No extra credit.
Dr. McCall is a great law professor. The amount of work may make your head spin. Don't do what I did and get behind on your case briefs to the point you have to do over 30 in about a week. Other than that she is the perfect choice if you are pursuing a law degree or have an interest in the subject. I am glad I took her.
McCall is absolutely the best professor you could take at State, and certainly within the Political Science Department. She is so sweet and caring, her lectures are super interesting, she's very funny, and she's upfront about how intense her class is. She loves hearing people's opinions and challenging the way you think. 10000/10
McCall is hands down one of the best professors Ive ever had! Shes extremely knowledgeable, helpful and gives future law students a good challenge! Her lectures are very interesting and she really makes learning easy!
Prof McCall is amazing! She is incredibly kind, intelligent, and witty. Does her best to help you understand the numerous cases you will study in this course! The class is hard, but if you study and go to all of the classes, you will do great and learn a lot. You have to prep about 4-5 case briefs each class.
