Of all the things I can say, I'll settle on this: Don't feel the need to be "high road" by giving this prof a more generous course evaluation than you feel she deserves; she's not going to do the same for you.
Maggie Austring made the course practical and interesting. She is fun & she would pick your brain. I enjoyed most classes (3 hours night class!) Most students get a decent grade. But if you are planning to skip exam, group work, or classes, she wouldn?t let you bargain for a better grade. I recommend her if you want to learn real business stuff.
I have taken 2 classes from Maggie. She is funny, knowledgeable, and intelligent. I look forward to going to her class. She is very helpful and passionate. Stay late to discuss ideas with students. She emphasizes the real world stuff. It is quite a bit of work but it?s interesting and real life kind of work. Too bad she is not a full time prof. (sh
Maggie is the best prof I have ever had. I hated marketing prior to her class, and now I am declaring marketing as my major!!!!!!! Plan your schedule to make sure you get a Maggie Austring class!
Maggie is very supportive and dynamic. She encourages you to think outside of the box and be creative in solving problems. What I really enjoy about her is that she is not your typical stuffy prof. You can have a good time as well as learn.
Maggie was by far one of the cooler profs I have had in my university career. She not only cared how you did in the class; but, she also cared how your life was outside of school. One of the few teachers I would stop and talk to outside of school. Made class both enjoyable as well as interesting. TAKE A CLASS FROM HER.
Maggie was great. Probably one of my favourite professors. She had a high level of interest in her students' success and was very open and honest. She was funny and kept the class interesting. Definitely one of the more enjoyable classes I've taken! If you can, take a class from her!
Maggie was a great prof and the class was a lot of fun! Never a dull moment in her classes! Very casual lectures with lots of real life examples. Exams are straight from the textbook. She was very concerned with the success of her students and was always available to meet with students to discuss grades or any problems in the class. Loved her!
Maggie was a great teacher, prior to taking her class I was not interested in International Marketing, but she made it interesting and she is very humorous, which I think most people would agree makes the class that much better. I would definitely recommend Maggie to everyone. Marking scheme is fair and outlined clearly.
Maggie is a great teacher. I took 415- international marketing from her.. She has clearly defined objectives and creates a learning environment in one can be successful. She uses her great sense of humor to make everyone in class feel comfortable, which encourages participation.
Great prof. Sometimes drifts a little off topic, but she really knows what she is talking about. The group project was very hands-on, and developed a sense for everyone on what international marketing was truly about.
She turned a subject like ethics into something fun. 1 debate project was pretty easy. The midterm was a little harder then I expected. I feel like a learnt a fair bit. Would definitely take another class from her.
Maggie made this class very interesting. The class project was interesting and really fun. She sincerly cares for the students to get a good mark. You cant fail unless you want to as she provided many oppurtunities for students to do well.(gave hints on MD, reference notes on final, bonus marks for posting). I would recommend taking 306 with her.
Maggie is a one of my favourite Profs in U of R! She is a true executive. She brings the insightful business experience to the classroom. Most importantly, she is engaging, helpful, and cares about how well you do. Enjoy her sense of humor. You do need to really study for her exams. But you will for sure learn lots from her class! Loved her!
I took two business courses from Maggie. She is awesome! She has a well-rounded business sense and knows what she is talking about, that?s for sure. She also knows how to get us going and motivate us to do well. She is fun and entertaining. Wish to take another course from her. But she is teaching the MBA level next semester.
Maggie is an absolute gem! I've taken one class from her and am taking another in the winter. There is an attendance mark but class is a blast because of Maggie's sense of humor. She also really cares about her students and wants to see them succeed. Maggie also knows her stuff but doesn't take herself too seriously which is rare in professors!
Maggie is Fantastic! I learnt so much in her class and she truly cares about her students. She makes the class engaging, interesting and fun! She has great energy about her and she is hilarious! I'm in my last year of my degree and I learnt more practical knowledge in her class than any other. Take Maggie's class and buy the textbook!
Favorite UofR prof, class is very interactive and she has a great sense of humor, fun class overall. Highly recommended.
A great professor for Ethics. She is engaging and keeps the class fun. She is a fair marker and clear on what she teaches. Recommended prof for Ehics.
This prof is great. She really wants her students to do well. She clearly explains what to do to succeed in the class. By talking about current events, she made ethic class interesting and interactive. If you work and attend class you can be sure to have a good grade. You need to read the textbook for this class.
Maggie is the best prof at the U of R. She knows her stuff and makes you laugh every class. I enjoyed every second of both classes I took from her. Take her class and buy the textbook you will have a blast. Maggie is the kind of prof who you can sit down and have a beer with. She is the best!
Maggie is my favorite prof! You can tell she has deep business knowledge and insight. I definitely think more strategically and dynamically after taking 2 of her courses. And I love that she is a people person. She can relate to everyone and she is hilarious! You definitely need to study the text. Highly recommend Maggie Austring!
Maggie is a very good business prof. Extremely knowledgeable and approachable. Her lectures are interesting and practical, definitely get you thinking. She tells you what her expectations are and how to do well. But if you miss a few classes, she wouldn't let you write the final exam(and she is not kidding). I sure enjoyed and learned lots from her!
she is really helpful, easy going, lively and so on.. i like the way she taught us!
Maggie is my best MBA professor! Her visions & expertise on business & marketing are truly excellent! I have learned more from her than a handful of other MBA courses combined. As a manager for years, she has definitely opened my eyes and made me rethink & re-strategize about how to serve today's changing market more strategically & effectively.
Maggie is an exceptional business leader and is great on her strategic views. We had quite a few Engineers and CMAs in this MBA class. Maggie has a gift to relate to everyone and make it so interesting, from analyzing the external and internal environment to developing highly effective business strategies. Real solutions for real business.
Give me a very clear undertstanding on the Marketing projects. When I am done with this course, I have learned all the processes needed in a professional marketing plan and analysis. Thanks a lot!
Awesome professor, I thought Ethics was going to be a stupid class, but Maggie made it interesting and kept it relevant. The only downside to Maggie is that she's already married.
Easily one of the best profs I've ever had, I don't to enjoy classes like ethics but she made class extremely fun. She also is very approachable and intellectual. P.S. I usually am not attracted to professors, but she caught me checking her out on more than one occasion
Maggie made this course so fun, I actually looked forward to go to her classes. She cared about her students and wanted them to do well. She challenaged us to think dynamically. I LOVE the ethics debates! The course has opened my eyes about business and its ethical issues. Loved it.
Maggie is easy going, friendly, approachable & very supportive. Her classes are fun, & enlightening. She is organized & calls it like it is. To do well in her class you have to participate EVERY class & remember to blog on the forum, as well as basically memorizing the textbook. If you have a photographic memory & talk lots, you will do well.
Maggie is my new favorite prof. I looked forward to every class and the discussions. She is a lot of fun, doesn't beat around the bush, and knows how to make the class entertaining. I would take this class 10 times over. My only complaint is the written exams seemed unnecessary, as this could have easily been a seminar class.
Maggie has an exceptional gift for business strategy and leadership. I liked the way she challenged our thoughts and guided us to see things more strategically in this MBA course. She has opened my eyes on analyzing a varity of crucial factors to maximize results. Maggie is definitely strategic and knows how to coach and guide others.
Maggie is very energetic in class and so everyone is quite interested. She makes everything very clear and she is very helpful to each of us. We are required to read some chapters to be ready for exams and we are able to remember a lot of basic concepts in marketing. Overall, I enjoyed her class quite much and appreciate her assistance.
I have taken 3 different business classes from Maggie. One word: AWESOME! She is business savvy, knows how to motivate us, and she is a lot of fun! She is caring and yet has her principles. You really need to attend and participate every class to do well. Exams and projects are not exactly easy, but reasonable. She is definitely my favorite prof!
Amazing prof. Fun and quirky, but very smart and she knows her subject matter. You'd be hard pressed to find another prof this enthusiastic and helpful.
Maggie is great and amazing professor, Very enjoyed her classes, I had been take two classes form her. Very recommended to all business students.
Maggie, is a great professors for several reasons. She genuinely cares about students, gives great hints and tips for exams, exams are all multiple choice, On top of that she is pretty funny and fairly laid back.
Maggie is probably one of the most useful instructors I ever met. She's the one who can close the gap between theories and practical applications in doing business(marketing). Take her class, you won't regret.
Maggie is a good professor who explains and assist in understanding and learning from the course. My best professor so far!
Very interesting class with real life marketing project to accompany the theory taught in class. Lots of interesting learning about presenting / writing a complete marketing plan in group.
Maggie is surely a dedicated and hard working marketer. Helps a lot with projects, until it is well done! I wish her great success in the future.
Maggie's class is awesome. She got a great insight of Marketing. Definitely recommend.
Great leader! Exceptional business knowledge, passionate, clear guidance and expectation. I have learned more from Maggie Austring than any other MBA courses. Expect to work hard but she cares and would guide you all the way to do well. Really like her personality as well. She is funny, easy going but with principles. A great MBA professor!
The great teacher i have ever had. Her teaching style is different and very interesting. I have learned lots from her class especially marketing plan (the real template) which is very helpful in professional career.
Great teacher and class, i would recommend her to all my friends. Class grading was fair, project was comprehensive so it prepared students for the final, and exams were all multiple choice. The workload was fair compared to other 400 level classes.
Maggie is a great prof. She is funny and also very knowledgeable. I enjoyed her class and would recommend her to anyone.
she is really a good and interesting professor! Her class is really hands-on and she always give us some tips about exams.
Maggie is my favorite prof of all time! She is very knowledgeable, funny, and engaging. She uses up-to-date examples to make the concepts easy to understand, knows how to get everyone interested, and her projects are very hands-on and fun! Just love her!
What a great class! Maggie made it so fun for us. Lots of hands on examples and exercises. Best prof ever. Can't wait to take another class from her!
Really helpful, had fun in the class, everyone was enjoying the class.
Took a couple of courses from Maggie. AWESOME! She is engaging and makes the course fun. Her projects are hands on and put the theories in real life practice. Exams are not easy, really have to study. If you miss more than 5 classes, she wouldn’t let you write the final. All in all, she is great, I will take her classes over other profs any time.
She's has been my favorite professor. She used very up to date examples in her lectures and she was a huge fan of hands on group work. I was intimidated the first class because her syllabus was not geared towards introverts! She went above and beyond to make everyone feel comfortable, and she made it easy to get participation marks.
I am normally someone who doesn't pay attention in class. Maggie's class was really engaging. You will learn more than your average class. The class discussions, presentations, examples and group work made you really engaged and passionate about ethics and business. I would highly recommend this to anyone needing to take Bus306.
very interesting and intelligent prof. knows her stuff as well as knows how to teach it. if you want to do well in the class drag your feet to class every week and make sure you participate so you can get all the bonus marks.
Well, she is an exceptional prof ever! She has the characteristics of an entrepreneur. She is easy to answer my questions and give suggestions. The class is easy. She is so funny, and I would recommend her.
Maggie knows business ethics and she sets VERY clear expectations on how you can do well in her class. She is engaging and funny in her lectures. She makes you think and wants your opinion, even if it is different then hers or someone else's in the class. Awesome Proff and I would recommend taking a class from her!
She knows marketing and she knows how to teach it. Her class is fun and you can learn a great deal.
Overall it was a good class
Very easy class to pass if you are comfortable with public speaking. There is a current event assignment which is worth 5% of your grade and everyone who goes and presents there current event to the class gets 100%. 15% of your grade is just participation, show up and make one good comment per class, its that simple.
Exceptional prof. Intelligent, knowledgeable, funny. You will learn REAL BUSINESS STUFF from her. She knows how to get everyone engaged and interested even at 8am. I learn much more from her than other business classes. Give timely constructive feedback and a fair marker. Cant miss 5 classes or you will fail (she means it).Highly recommend Maggie!
Maggie is great! She is very clear on her expectations and participation in her class is a must. The text book is not used much throughout the class itself but is essential for the midterm and final.
Class was AWESOME. I learnt a lot, she related the concepts to real work and life experiences by viewing videos and talking about specific cases in the news. If you do not like to talk in class, this class will help you develop those skills. I would definitely recommend if anyone has the chance to take a class from her.
Maggie is my favorite business prof. Lots of energy and entertaining. Used real business issues and got us to share our thoughts in class. Exams are from the textbook. She gave us tips and samples to do well in exams. Fast marker. Gave good feedback right away. If you like to miss classes it's not for you, can't pass the course if you skip 5.
Love Maggie's teaching style. An eye opener - Learned the real life business ethical/unethical practices, discussed current events and debated over controversial business ethical issues. Not usually a dull moment. It changed my view on what I thought was right & wrong in business. Even made me a smarter consumer. Would take Maggie's classes again.
Maggie was ok overall. She does not prepare you for exams, lectures are fun though.
Nice Prof. Very hands on. Not boring. Gave sample exam and exam tips. Clear expectations on projects and gave good feedback. Easy to ask questions. Fair Grader. Would take classes from Maggie again for sure.
she is awesome, If you want an ez grade in business ethics, take her. She gives you marks for talking. Just be present in every class, just one midterm, 1 presentation, and 1 debate. Don't be scared of her in the 1st few classes, as she shows she is very strict, but she is awesome.. and there are powerpoint, but textbook is helpful for sure.
This class takes students who are okay with 60's and students who get 80-90's and gives them a common mark of 70-80%. Midterm and final are MC exams that are worded extremely poorly, very tough. Class debate is a hit and miss on your group members and how lopsided the topic assigned to you is. Nice lady tho, interesting classes.
Maggie is defintiely one of my favorite business profs. Interesting lectures and she is hilarious. Gave us clear guidelines to get marks and gave good feedback at the end. A fair marker on debate. Exams are not easy. But the overall grade is good. A nice lady.
This class with another professor could probably be super boring but she makes it really interesting and makes you want to participate in the discussions in class. The important part is a group debate but she helps you a lot to prepare for it.
Maggie is cool. She made the course very interesting instead of boring like other profs. Participation definitely matters but it was easy to do it in her class. She made you think and voice your opinion. Exams are not easy and they came straight from the textbook. But she gave you tips on exams. Overall it was a great class. Really like Maggie.
Maggie was not my favourite prof. She was fun, but I felt I didn't learn much. She was a little dramatic. You don't need to study for her class, you'll get the same mark whether you study or not.
Good Prof. Glad I took this course from Maggie. I heard other BUS306 profs are boring. She made it fun and easy to learn. I don't normally like to speak in class but not this one. She made you feel comfortable. Very interactive and definitely need to attend classes to pass. She also gave exam tips. Would definitely take her classes again.
Very energetic Prof. Interesting Lectures. Not boring. Fair Marker. Nice Lady. One of my favorites.
Really loved Maggie's class. 3 hours night class twice a week. But she made it so fun and interactive. Also hilarious and understanding. Loved it.
BEST PROF! She's a really enthusiastic prof who loves teaching. She cares for her students success, and makes sure that your're rewarded for your hard work! The presentations, and midterm were graded very fairly. She gives great hints for tests. Her teaching made me become more interested in Marketing.
I'm an ENGG student and I HATE Business classes so I wasn't expecting much from this one. It is a surprise for me that I did not only find this class interesting but I actually also enjoyed it very much. Maggie's lectures are fun and clear. Attend class and pay attention and you'll see it reflected on your grade. Would take more classes from her
Maggie is a keen and knowledgable prof! She sets out detailed expectations and is eager to help anyone out. I appreciated how she'd provide constructive feedback. Her lectures are fun and interactive. You actually get to apply everything you learned through a group presentation by developing a sales management strategy for a local small business.
I really like Maggie. She is passionate and caring yet can be tough. You DO need to attend her classes or she won't let you to write the final. Her teaching style is awesome and really sticks with you. She gets you to apply everything you learn in a hands on project. You do need to study hard for exams. Learned lots and love her teaching style.
She is the best prof so far I ever had. If you want to learn something then take her class. TIP: Don't drop out the class after reading her first scary email lol she is strict and she meant every single word but you'll definitely enjoy her class. You must speak in class to get participation marks and exams are not hard. My recommendation is 100%
Honestly, amazing person, but SHE DOES NOT TEACH ANY MATERIAL. You have to learn everything from the textbook. She literally just reads the powerpoint slides. She is a good prof, but she is not for everyone
Maggie is awesome and high energy. She has a way to make the materials stick to you such as using good examples, videos, class discussions... Each class goes by quickly. She also means business. You really can't be late or missing classes. Tough but fair. Good Prof!
If you're willing to attend classes and be engaged hugely beneficial and practical course.
I took a couple of courses from Maggie. Definitely one of my favorite business profs. Tough but fair and passionate. I learned lots from her. If you work hard, serious about learning, not skipping classes, you will love her.
Maggie is amazing. She obviously enjoys what she does. I thought business ethics would be boring. Wow, she makes it so interesting. Loves her energy and enthusiasm. 3 hours night class goes by quickly. I would love to take more business classes from her.
I thoroughly enjoyed her class, the best this semester! She challenged our thoughts on controversial business ethical issues from consumer ethics to international heated topics . Eye opening and honestly learned lots! I dont normally feel comfortable speaking in class but I felt good doing it. Love her energy. Made the 3 hours night class easy.
Good prof. Not boring, thought provoking, must have high attendance, fair marker for projects, exams not easy. She has strict rules about attendance (or you wouldnt pass) and no texting in class. She is helpful with group project and gives good feedback. I like her.
Maggie is one of those unforgettable profs that you meet in your university career. She is passionate about both the topics that she teaches, as well as the success of the students in her class. Don't be turned away by her seemingly scary email at the beginning of the semester, she pushes her students to be the best that they can be!
Maggie is one of the best profs I have taken in my university career! This is not only because she is passionate about what she teaches, but also because she genuinely cares about her students. She might seem difficult to those that are lazy, but she is pushing you to do the best work that you can do! I would take any of her classes in a heartbeat!
Maggie's BUS 306 was one of the best classes I've taken. She first comes across as very stern and is very demanding in terms of level of effort. That being said she is also extremely fair. You need to attend every lecture, and be ready to participate. If you're a passenger, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. If you're engaged, she is an absolute gem.
Maggie was a very nice lady but also very intense. Her class was overwhelming in the sense where you have to participate and answer questions. Participation is worth 15% so if you are more introverted you will not enjoy this class. Maggie is a very fair marker which I appreciated. There are two presentations; group and individual/partner.
For some projects, she can give you ideal marks. However, she showed no respect to some students. Some of her teachings did not indicate she is professional. Not recommend this teacher at all.... :(
Maggie is a great prof. I have learned more from her than most profs in my university career. I took her class during COVID 19. Students were very stressed out, scared, and angry. She went above and behind to cover all things and made things worked for us. I felt encouraged in her class during the crisis. She is a fair marker and a nice lady.
Maggie makes class participation mandatory and worth 15% of your mark. To get full 15% you have to comment/talk three times each class. On top of this another 45% is based on group projects and a 25% midterm that she makes extremely hard. She will humiliate you if your comment in class is not what she was looking for. Her ego gets the best of her.
I found Maggie somewhat annoying. It was a zoom class and she likes to very loud and vocal. Not the best at using online resources. Also doesnt give super clear instruction. Overall not a super difficult class and a lot of group work so with some effort you can get a good grade
Maggie is easily one of the best profs I have ever had. She makes a 3 hour night class fly by! In fact, I look forward to her classes because you are never bored. Do not let her strict outlines scare you away. She is a great professor that I would happily take another class from if given the opportunity to do so!
Maggie is by far one of the worst professors at the U of R. It's basically her way or the highway. She calls out students randomly in class during her first few weeks and demands answers. I find her extremely annoying and egotistical. You won't learn anything in this class other than how to debate properly. M
Very intimidating from the start, but just follow her expectations and you will do fine. Her exams are mostly application of ethics theories from textbook which are not thoroughly discussed in class. Class is made up of debates and presentations. Participation is crucial. Be prepared to go overtime and stay late after class time.
This prof is brutal. We had to sit in 3 hour lectures which was mandatory and talk about useless stuff. NOT a single thing we talked about in lecture is on any of her exams. EVERY single piece of content is in the textbook. Why even pay for this class, a professor or to even go to uni if all you need is a textbook and you learn all on ur own.
Maggie is perhaps one of the strictest and intimidating profs in the business faculty. If you're scared to speak up and participate in class then she is not the right prof for you. You basically have to ask or comment at least once per class in order to get participation marks. Her exams are super duper hard and will definitely throw you off.
Maggie is VERY specific and there are many group projects that must be perfect. She is very strict and her tests can be difficult. Class can be chaotic sometimes because she times presentations with a stop watch and you are not aloud to go over time at all. Students also have to speak EVERY class and you cant miss more than 4 classes.
This was definitely the best Zoom class I had during COVID. Maggie made the class interesting and engaging. It was an eye opener. Made me think of business ethics and issues differently. Marks were fair. She also gave us extra support for projects/exams. In general, it was a very positive experience. Loved her energy.
Great prof. Maggie teaches how to solve real life marketing problems and gives valuable advice. Best marketing prof I came across. Glad to finish my marketing degree with her. Exams and projects are fair with much guidance.
I can confidently say that I have learned so much from Maggie. She brings real life knowledge to this course - it's all about solving today's complex marketing problems. This marketing course is defintely my favourite and most beneficial course that I have taken in my entire university career.
She makes things organized but she does not understand that her organization is so complicated and scary to students. she expects students to be punctual but herself is late half an hour .
Awful prof Notttt gooooooodddd at alll
She is the professor with diplomatic standards. She expects students to be before time and is herself late for class by half an hour by technical difficulties. But what if student has some technical difficulties to connect with class? She will fail without listening anything
Guys dont believe on rating .. she is the worst prof .. i did believed rating and went to her class which was biggest mistake.
great prof. clear guidance. she taught us how to combine all marketing techniques along with consumer psychology to solve marketing problems. Insightful! lots of energy in class. best marketing course I have taken. students who do not show up or work wouldn't do well. Maggie is a gem.
Interesting Prof. She has a holistic approach to marketing strategies. I turned on a few big lightbulbs in her class that I can use for upcoming marketing job interviews. She seems passionate and caring, even sounded tough at first. I have learned more from her than other profs. Participating and attendance matter.
I will never take a class with Maggie again. 15% of your mark comes from attendance and participation, she talks fast and it is her way or no way.
One of the most amazing profs i have ever seen, not a hard grader. Seems a little intimidating at first but she is not once you get to know her throughout the semester. Do have to read the book for final though. Overall would take it again
Worst exams ever. You'll spend the lecture presenting and debating, but when it comes to the exam you'll find things that you've never discussed in class. Attendance and participation is mandatory, otherwise you'll lose lots of marks. Exam studying is all self-teaching. Read the tb on your own and understand every letter so you can pass the exam.
At the beginning of semester you might think she is very tough and too much rules but trust me at the end of the semester you will realize she is very good professor, very interesting topics, very fare marker. She always wants her students to succeed. I would take her again 100% if she is teaching higher level courses.
Maggie is so intimidating at first I honestly wanted to drop the class, but I am so happy that I didn't. She sets high expectations of her students, but it is only to ensure students do the best they can. She is reasonable marking for projects. Midterm and final all multiple choice and textbook heavy. She aims to build relationships with students
Don't be tricked by the reviews about her classes. Absolutely one of the WORST. No feedback on projects. Exams have nothing to do with what you're taught in class. Very textbook heavy. Very strict when it comes to attendance and participation. AVIOD her if you can.
Love Maggie's class! Learn lots of REAL business ethical issues - eye opening and thought provoking. She has her way to make the class interactive, engaging and fun (3 hours night class). Be prepared to attend all classes and study for exams. You can't miss more than 2 classes. Project is a debate. She might seem tough but she is a gem!
Relies on students to teach her class through group presentations. This would be a cool concept if the grading criteria made any sense. More marks went towards timing and use of 'biz ethics' terms than the content. Midterm and final all MC, but is full of Q's that are only mentioned in the textbook. Saving grace is the debate and pres are easy.
Took a few courses from Maggie. Business ethics and a couple of marketing courses. Knowing many of us are graduating with a marketing degree after this semester, she got us to apply all marketing concepts we have learned to a project. Everything is related. Things she taught made a lot of sense. Glad to finish my marketing degree with her.
Maggie was an amazing prof! I enjoyed her class. Large group project related to building a commercial/marketing a brand. It's important to think outside the box. Think, she's done this project for many semesters, so get creative with it!! Overall an amazing semester. I would take any class from Maggie again!
Amazing prof! The first two lectures are crazy and full of rules and intro about the class. She will teach you if you are willing to attend the class. Group project experience was bitter (was not her fault). you will learn the value of having different perspectives on anything from her class. Participate by all means in her class.
Very knowledgeable and organized. Grading criteria is straightforward and fair. Attendance is mandatory but the class is enjoyable and informative.
Maggie is the best instructor I have ever taken, the work required is a good level, the course is fun but full of information learned is practical and relatable. Maggie teaches in a way that regardless of learning style you will enjoy this class! Wish she taught more classes!!
I cannot praise Maggie enough. Her lectures and teaching style are absolutely engaging and fascinating to learn about. Participation definitely matters because our class was very discussion-based and relied heavily on class contribution. I looked forward to every class and learned so much throughout the semester.
Maggie is an amazing person and is so good at connecting with her students. This class includes one big project, one smaller project, one midterm, and a final exam. The projects seem like a lot but once you get going they aren't so bad. I highly recommend taking any class with her!
Honestly, Maggie does come off as intimidating, but if you are able to look past that and take a chance by staying in her class, you'll enjoy learning in her class and come to respect her. Group projects are not that difficult as long as you put in the work. Exams are difficult, as you have to solo read the textbook content which it is based on.
One of my favourite professors here. Participation is important and its very beneficial. You get to learn something new every class and she also makes sure her students are well engaged. We have group projects, putting in the work is something that can be easily done. Her tests are heavily textbook based, Still, She really was the best.
I was tricked into taking her course by all the positive reviews. She tells that class "if you're a freeloader or slacker, drop the course" and brags about how so many students drop her course within the first month. She loves to talk about how great of a professor she is but frankly, I can't entirely agree.
I took her class in winter semester. She is really strict makes you feel like military camp. You cannot miss more than 4 class otherwise you cannot sit in final exam. If you leave class early or you are late then also you are marked absent. It is really stressful environment. You cannot use your phone and cannot use laptop until she tells you.
At first came off as too much, but as the semester went on, I realized this was a professor who actually cares about their students. Attendance is mandatory but classes are actually interesting. There is a lot of textbook reading but it really helps for the exams. Everything is marked very fairly and she tells you exactly what she expects.
Participation and attendance was 15% of the grade (you could not miss more than 4 classes or else you failed), but this helped get rid of slackers and made the 2 group projects better. Classes were fun and engaging, especially debates, but you do need to read and take notes on the textbook for exams. Assignment requirements were detailed and clear.
Maggie was the best professor I had for my Winter 2024 Term. She has very clear and outlined expectations, and participation is mandatory but easy to do. You actually learn new things in this class. Would definitely take another class from her again. As long as you dont miss more than 4 classes and pay attention to her lectures, the class is great.
Maggie's class is tough but rewarding. Mandatory attendance keeps you engaged, and the textbook readings are essential for exams. Group projects require work, but unstuck AI helped me stay on top of things. Overall, a challenging yet valuable experience.
By far the worst professor I have had throughout my degree. Cannot write the final exam if you are absent or late in more than 4 classes. Midterm (all multiple choice) has nothing to do with lectures and you don't get the midterm back to see where you went wrong. Final is based on the entire textbook. Do whatever it takes to avoid this prof.
Best prof in my university years. Maggie has a way of explaining information like no other profs and is passionate about her teaching. Expectations are clear and fair. Exams can be hard. She gave tips for both exams. So study and attend classes and you will do great!
Amazing lectures. Maggie is a great eye opener. She changed my way to approach and analyze business issues. Marking and course structure are clear. Also have a peer evaluation in place in case you got a slacker in group project. All in all, really enjoy her class. Super engaging and interesting. Need more profs like her.
Maggie's class is awesome. Definitely very interesting and engaging. I learn a lot more from her than many classes combined. Never have run into a prof like her: knowledgeable, tough, yet approachable, funny and down to earth. Very high class attendance which tells you something. Need to have more profs like her.
The course was challenging and it was unlike any course I have taken before. This is also why it felt extremely rewarding. Maggie is an inspirational prof whose teaching style is as unique as it is insightful. She cares deeply about the intellectual growth of students, and will open your eyes to seeing the world in ways you never have before.
Maggie was a great teacher, she had strict rules. Like participating and not missing more than 4 classes. But, in reality it was because she cared. Her classes were heavy on interaction so if you missed many you would not be prepared. She is very compassionate about teaching, and made class discussions entertaining. Would definitely take her again
These must be fake reviews. Very hypocritical as she expects students to be extremely organized when she is not. She had incorrect information on the syllabus regarding the edition of the textbook to study for the midterm, with chapters not being in the correct order and in response, would not take accountability. Avoid for your wellbeing
Reposting since my review was removed. Worst professor at the U of R by far. Had several duplicate MCQ's on the final (if you got one wrong, you'd get both wrong). MCQ options were "A) Sustainable Development B) Business Sustainable Development" and some were subjective. No matter what, you will not finish this class above 90, likely 70-80 at best
These low reviews are not reflective of Maggie. Was I happy with my mark? not overly. The tests are structured pretty poorly. I left this class happy with a mark that took my GPA down because Maggie truly cares about educating. Not often you get someone like her in Bus. It's an ethics class.. You won't get above a 70-80 with any prof.
Nice review Maggie. If you're going to try and bolster your rating, at least make it believable. I do not think any reasonable student would give 5/5 for being disappointed in a GPA drop, poorly structured tests, and say it's justified because she cares.
I took this class for my BUS degree and was disappointed. For the 2 tests they were both all MCQ questions, nobody got over a 68% for both. Participation matters above all else because of the marks lost on the tests. The group projects were nice because there was an actual grading rubric so you could actually do well on them. I don't recommend her.
